The sexual imagination hypothesis predicts that gender differences in jealousy emerge from the differences in explicit imagination between men and women. In particular, men strongly respond to partners' sexual infidelity because they can imagine sexual stimuli explicitly. In contrast, women strongly respond to emotional infidelity because they can effortlessly envision emotional infidelity. We hypothesised that higher sexual and romantic imaginations were associated with greater distress over partners' sexual and emotional infidelity, respectively. Participants (226 women and 135 men) answered questions regarding experiences with personal sexual and emotional infidelity and the degree of distress they felt over their partners' sexual and emotional infidelity. They completed the scales for sexual and romantic imaginations. Multiple regression analyses showed that the sexual imagination hypothesis provided a unique explanation for gender differences in jealousy beyond the effects of gender, including relationship experience and experiences with personal sexual and emotional infidelity. Additionally, individuals with relationship experience and experiences with personal sexual and emotional infidelity reported higher sexual and romantic imaginations than those without such experiences. The purpose of my article is to face up to, and to know more, about the depth-psychology of jealousy, which constitutes a part of my personal history of taking the path to becoming a psychiatrist and choosing to specialize in psychoanalysis. In other words, it is closely related to my experience of having achieved success, in a sense, in my early 20s, which made me the object of jealously, and experiencing the anxiety and fear that comes from being a total unknown who becomes one of “the Beatles of Japan.” I became something I wanted to be, but I was also scared of being scolded by God. I was expelled, at least psychologically, from Japan. I fled to London and underwent psychoanalysis. I desperately wanted to learn exactly what was happening to me, reading the story that was repeated in our hearts, in our fantasies, in my songs, and also in reality. In the course of both undergoing and studying psychoanalysis, I encountered something that was the last thing I wanted to recognize: my own sense of jealousy. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the views of exchange students from Japan about their sojourn experiences at an American university. The participants were eight exchange students from Japan (four males and four females). This descriptive-qualitative study was conceptualized within sojourner theory (Siu, 1952). The data sources were a demographic survey and semi-structured interviews conducted during the participants' study abroad sojourn. The interview data were analyzed using constant comparative method (Merriam, 1998). The emergent themes were (a) academic frustration in ESL courses, (b) academic and social envy and jealousy, and (c) academic transition challenges. This article analyzes the entry for Harasaki in Harima Fudoki and provides a fresh interpretation. Through comparisons with Lévi-Strauss's From Honey to Ashes, it is argued that in the Harasaki tale the kanji for "concubine" is not a copyist's mistake as previously thought. The drowned "concubine" is revealed to be Carp, a trope representing a licentious woman. Her internal organs float upwards to become individually the six visible stars of the star cluster Pleiades, thus accounting for their mythological origin. It is inferred that this Japanese version is a vestige of such myths that are found worldwide, and that its transmission may date from several thousand years ago. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Pathological jealousy can be seen in all generations. It is known to be difficult to treat, especially in older patients. In middle-aged patients, it is commonly treated with neuroleptics like pimozide but in elder patients treatment options are limited because of the adverse side-effects of neuroleptics, such as extrapyramidal syndrome. The present study documents the successful treatment of a 98-year-old Japanese man who showed pathological jealousy using tiapride without any adverse side-effects.
