As large-scale wind turbines are connected to the grid, modeling studies of wind farms are essential to the power system dynamic research. Due to the large number of wind turbines in the wind farm, detailed modeling of each wind turbine leads to high model complexity and low simulation efficiency. An equivalent modeling method for the wind farm is needed to reduce the complexity. For wind farms with widely used doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs), the existing equivalent studies mainly focus on such continuous control parts as electrical control. These methods are unsuitable for the low voltage ride through (LVRT) part which is discontinuous due to switching control. Based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) and density-based spatial clustering of applications (DBSCAN), this paper proposes an equivalent method for LVRT characteristics of wind farms. Firstly, the multi-turbine equivalent model of the wind farm is established. Each wind turbine in the model represents a cluster of wind turbines with similar voltage variation characteristics. A single equivalent transmission line connects all wind turbines to the power grid. By changing the terminal voltage threshold to enter LVRT, each equivalent turbine can be in different LVRT states. Secondly, an LVRT parameter optimization method based on PSO is used to obtain the dynamic parameters of the equivalent wind turbines. This method of parameter optimization is applicable to the equivalent of LVRT parameters. Thirdly, a clustering method based on DBSCAN is used to obtain suitable clusters of wind turbines. This clustering method can classify wind turbines with similar electrical distances into the same cluster. Finally, two examples are set up to verify the proposed method.

Objective(s): Gleditsiae spina (GS) is a natural antidepressant but its mechanisms of action remain unclear. In the present study, taxifolin (Tax) was selected to determine the role of flavonoids in the antidepressant effects of GS.Materials and Methods: Urine samples from C57BL/6 mice were analyzed based on ultra performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q/TOF-MS). Then, we investigated the therapeutic effects of GS and Tax in depression models in vivo. An integrated metabolomic approach was used to examine the metabolic profiles of GS/Tax groups and corticosterone model groups (Cor). The difference of vapor cloud density and the variation of atmospheric turbulence caused by ambient temperature are the main factors influencing the leakage and diffusion of LNG. Hence, it is very necessary to study the influence of the variation of ambient temperature on the diffusion rules of LNG. With the component transport model and the Realizable k-ε turbulence model in Fluent software, a numerical model of vapor diffusion caused by the surface leakage of LNG was established to explore the influence of ambient temperature on the volume fraction distribution of methane, vapor cloud density and atmospheric turbulence intensity in the process of LNG leakage and diffusion. The results show that under the low ambient temperature, the volume fraction lines of methane in the LNG vapor cloud is in the shape of"sawtooth", resulting in the increase of the horizontal diffusion range of the Low Flammability Limit (LFL) and 1/2 LFL of the methane, while under the high ambient temperature, the maximum range of diffusion of methane at LFL is 115 m farther than that under the low ambient temperature which leads to the increase of the diffusion range of methane at 1/2 LFL in the horizontal downwind direction. In addition, the increment of the turbulence intensity increases with the rise of the temperature in the area where the volume fraction of methane is greater than 1/2 LFL, while it decreases with the rise of temperature in the area where the volume fraction is less than 1/2 LFL. In the range of 100-200 m around the source of leakage, the increment of the turbulence intensity resulted by "temperature inversion" can be up to 0.79 times. The research results could provide references for prediction on leakage region, safety storage and transportation and emergency rescue of LNG.

Abstract Background Oligovascular niche mediates interactions between cerebral endothelial cells and oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs). Disruption of OPC-endothelium trophic coupling may aggravate the progress of cerebral white matter injury (WMI) because endothelial cells could not provide sufficient support under diseased conditions. Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) have been reported to ameliorate WMI in the adult brain by boosting oligovascular remodeling. It is necessary to clarify the role of the conditioned medium from hypoxic endothelial cells preconditioned EPCs (EC-pEPCs) in WMI since EPCs usually were recruited and play important roles under blood-brain barrier disruption. Here, we investigated the effects of EC-pEPCs on oligovascular remodeling in a neonatal rat model of WMI. Methods In vitro, OPC apoptosis induced by the conditioned medium from oxygen-glucose deprivation-injured brain microvascular endothelial cells (OGD-EC-CM) was analyzed by TUNEL and FACS. The effects of EPCs on EC damage and the expression of cytomokine C-X-C motif ligand 12 (CXCL12) were examined by western blot and FACS. The effect of the CM from EC-pEPCs against OPC apoptosis was also verified by western blot and silencing RNA. In vivo, P3 rat pups were subjected to right common carotid artery ligation and hypoxia and treated with EPCs or EC-pEPCs at P7, and then angiogenesis and myelination together with cognitive outcome were evaluated at the 6th week. Results In vitro, EPCs enhanced endothelial function and decreased OPC apoptosis. Meanwhile, it was confirmed that OGD-EC-CM induced an increase of CXCL12 in EPCs, and CXCL12-CXCR4 axis is a key signaling since CXCR4 knockdown alleviated the anti-apoptosis effect of EPCs on OPCs. In vivo, the number of EPCs and CXCL12 protein level markedly increased in the WMI rats. Compared to the EPCs, EC-pEPCs significantly decreased OPC apoptosis, increased vascular density and myelination in the corpus callosum, and improved learning and memory deficits in the neonatal rat WMI model. Conclusions EC-pEPCs more effectively promote oligovascular remodeling and myelination via CXCL12-CXCR4 axis in the neonatal rat WMI model.

Murraya exotica L. (Rutaceae) has important horticultural and medicinal values. Here, we reported the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of M. exotica using the next-generation sequencing method. The cp genome is 160,179 bp in length, including a large single-copy region (LSC, 87,726 bp), a small single-copy region (SSC, 18,465 bp), and a pair of inverted repeats (IR) regions 26,994 bp. A maximum-likelihood phylogenomic analysis showed that M. exotica was sister to Murraya paniculate. These findings will provide useful information for further investigation of cp genome evolution in Murraya.

Ultrawideband (UWB) technology has received considerable attention in indoor positioning because of its high ranging accuracy. However, UWB range measurements can be contaminated by the delayed signals resulting from obstruction and reflection in difficult indoor environments. These signals introduce delays to range measurements and degrade positioning accuracy if they are not resolved properly. In order to mitigate the effects of delayed range measurements on positioning and achieve a high-accuracy position estimation, this paper proposes a robust particle-filter-based indoor positioning algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, an outlier detection method is proposed for delayed measurement identification, and a constrained particle sampling method is proposed to optimize the distribution of the predicted particles. The proposed algorithm is assessed rigorously through testing. The test results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively identify delayed range measurements, mitigate their effects on position estimation, and improve positioning accuracy.

BackgroundMitral valve surgery (MVS) is an effective treatment for mitral valve diseases. There is a lack of reliable personalized risk prediction models for mortality in patients undergoing mitral valve surgery. Our aim was to develop a risk stratification system to predict all-cause mortality in patients after mitral valve surgery.MethodsDifferent machine learning models for the prediction of all-cause mortality were trained on a derivation cohort of 1,883 patients undergoing mitral valve surgery [split into a training cohort (70%) and internal validation cohort (30%)] to predict all-cause mortality. Forty-five clinical variables routinely evaluated at discharge were used to train the models. The best performance model (PRIME score) was tested in an externally validated cohort of 220 patients undergoing mitral valve surgery. The model performance was evaluated according to the area under the curve (AUC). Net reclassification improvement (NRI) and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) were compared with existing risk strategies.ResultsAfter a median follow-up of 2 years, there were 133 (7.063%) deaths in the derivation cohort and 17 (7.727%) deaths in the validation cohort. The PRIME score showed an AUC of 0.902 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.849–0.956) in the internal validation cohort and 0.873 (95% CI: 0.769–0.977) in the external validation cohort. In the external validation cohort, the performance of the PRIME score was significantly improved compared with that of the existing EuroSCORE II (NRI = 0.550, [95% CI 0.001–1.099], P = 0.049, IDI = 0.485, [95% CI 0.230–0.741], P < 0.001).ConclusionMachine learning-based model (the PRIME score) that integrate clinical, demographic, imaging, and laboratory features demonstrated superior performance for the prediction of mortality patients after mitral valve surgery compared with the traditional risk model EuroSCORE II.Clinical Trial Registration[http://www.clinicaltrials.gov], identifier [NCT05141292].

RET rearrangements are rare, and occur in 1%-2% of all non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Pralsetinib has a significant anti-tumor effect in patients with advanced NSCLC and a RET rearrangement. Previous studies have confirmed the efficiency of neoadjuvant target therapy for NSCLC. Herein we present a case involving a female patient who was diagnosed with stage IIIA lung adenocarcinoma and harbored a KIF5B-RET rearrangement based on next-generation sequencing. Radiologic downstaging was indicated after pralsetinib treatment. Therefore, a right lower lobectomy and systemic lymphadenectomy were successfully performed. The postoperative pathologic results revealed a response rate of 74% for primary tumor and no residual viable tumor cells were observed in lymph nodes. The tumor, nodes, and metastases (TNM) stage was ypT1cN1M0. The tumor micro-environment (TME) of the primary tumor was also assessed.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of hydroxylated lecithin on growth performance, serum enzyme activity, hormone levels related to lipid metabolism and meat quality in Jiangnan White goslings. Six hundred 1-day-old goslings were randomly divided into five treatments with six replicates and 20 for each replicate. The control group (CG) was fed the basal diet, while the experimental group was fed the basal diet with 50, 100, 200 mg/kg hydroxylated lecithin and 100 mg/kg soy lecithin (HLG50, HLG100, HLG200, and LG100, respectively) in the form of powder. Feed and water were provided ad libitum for 32 days. Compared with the CG, (a) the average daily feed intake was higher (P < 0.05) in HLG100, the final body weight and average daily gain were higher (P < 0.05), and the feed conversion ratio was lower in the HLG200; (b) the alanine aminotransferase, malate dehydrogenase, leptin, glucagon, thyroid hormone, Triiodothyronine contents in the HLG200 were lower (P < 0.05); (c) The breast muscle water holding capacity was higher (P < 0.05) in groups with hydroxylated lecithin, the breast muscle shear force and fiber diameter were lower (P < 0.05) in the HLG100; (d) the inositic acid, intramuscular fat, phospholipid contents were higher (P < 0.05), the triglyceride content was lower (P < 0.05) in HLG100 of the breast muscle; (e) the relative expression of sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1 genes were higher (P < 0.05) in the treated groups of muscles, the phosphorylase kinase gamma subunit 1 gene expression was shown an opposite trend. In comparison with LG100, (a) the feed conversion ratio was lower (P < 0.05) in HLG200; (b) the alanine aminotransferase and adiponectin contents were higher (P < 0.05), the malondialdehyde and free fatty acid contents were lower (P < 0.05) in HLG200; (c) the water holding capacity and intramuscular fat contents in the breast and leg muscles were higher (P < 0.05) in HLG200. The hydroxylated lecithin concentration of 200 mg/kg improved the growth performance, serum enzyme activity, hormone levels related to lipid metabolism, and the meat quality of Jiangnan White goslings.

A novel multifunctional chitinase (CmChi3)-encoding gene was cloned from Chitinolyticbacter meiyuanensis and actively expressed in Escherichia coli. Sequence analysis showed that CmChi3 contains two glycoside hydrolase family 18 (GH18) catalytic domains and exhibited low identity with well-characterized chitinases. The optimum pH and temperature of purified recombinant CmChi3 were 6.0 and 50°C, respectively. CmChi3 exhibited strict substrate specificity of 4.1 U/mg toward colloidal chitin (CC) and hydrolyzed it to yield N-acetyl-D-glucosamine (GlcNAc) as the sole end product. An analysis of the hydrolysis products toward N-acetyl chitooligosaccharides (N-acetyl COSs) and CC substrates revealed that CmChi3 exhibits endochitinase, N-acetyl-β-d-glucosaminidase (NAGase), and transglycosylase (TGase) activities. Further studies revealed that the N-terminal catalytic domain of CmChi3 exhibited endo-acting and NAGase activities, while the C-terminal catalytic domain showed exo-acting and TGase activities. The hydrolytic properties and favorable environmental adaptations indicate that CmChi3 holds potential for commercial GlcNAc production from chitin.

The eastern region of Shandong province, China, is an intensive economic mink and raccoon dog breeding area. To investigate the molecular variations of parvovirus in cats, dogs, minks, and raccoon dogs from this region, feline panleukopenia virus (FPV), canine parvovirus 2 (CPV-2), mink enteritis virus (MEV), and raccoon dog parvovirus (RDPV) were separately isolated and characterized from the respective animals with gastroenteritis. PCR amplification showed that there were 15/18 (83.3%), 9/13 (69.2%), 8/11 (72.7%), and 3/7 (42.9%) samples from the diseased animals separately positive for FPV, CPV-2, MEV, and RDPV. Of these, a total of six FPV, six MEV, four CPV-2, and three RDPV strains were successfully isolated using F81 cells. Next, the near-complete genomes of 19 parvovirus isolates were amplified and analyzed. The viral particle 2 (VP2) sequence alignment showed that they shared 97.2–100% nucleotide similarity. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the five FPV isolates were in the same branch, and an FPV isolate was closely related with MEV and RDPV isolates obtained in this study. These suggested that cross-species infection occurred in the Shandong region between the FPV, MEV, and RDPV. For the four CPV-2 isolates, three were antigenic variant strains CPV-2a, and the other was antigenic variant strain CPV-2c. Additionally, the mutations that had emerged in the VP2 amino acids of CPV-2 also occurred in the VP2 from the FPV, MEV, and RDPV isolates. This study suggested that the continuous evolution of the parvovirus may be accelerated in areas with a high density of economic animal trading/breeding, and controlling parvovirus infection in these animals remains a challenge.

Over the years, probabilistic nature of renewable energy sources (RES) and its influence on power system adequacy have been well studied. However, rather less attention has been paid to the impact of RES unit itself's and its power conversion system's (PCS') reliability, as well as their various connection topologies. This paper devises a comprehensive sensitivity study on how each of these elements can affect overall generating system reliability. given the plethora of RES configurations and components, it is of import to identify the most vulnerable element in RES. In this work, component importance is extended, for the first time, to generating capacity adequacy assessment (HLI). Measurement index is the centerpiece in reliability importance. New indices have to be introduced to facilitate the study. While the physical meaning of previously developed indices is lost, in this study indices are proposed based on traditional importance measures, of which the physical meaning are strictly retained and consistent with the definitions. With the proposed assessment technique, components in various RES configuration can be ranked according to their reliability importance. It is found in the numerical study that different importance measures (such as risk-achievement based measures and risk-reduction based measures) can result in different rankings. Studies on contributing factors of the reliability importance are also performed. As more and more RES gaining foothold in generating systems, the proposed technique assist to achieve targeted reliability level of the system, by easily identifying and prioritizing reliability improvement tasks among various units/components in the increasing complex system.

This paper proposes a novel adaptive range composite differential evolution (ARCoDE) algorithm to efficiently and accurately solve optimal reactive power dispatch (ORPD) problem. Because of a novel adaptive range strategy for control parameters, the proposed ARCoDE possesses superior exploration and exploitation capabilities that can efficiently handle the ORPD problem involving complicated constraints and discrete and continuous variables. This has been demonstrated in case studies using the IEEE optimal power flow testbeds considering complex wind and demand scenarios. The superior performance of ARCoDE has been further validated through comparisons with several award-winning algorithms in 2014 IEEE Competition on “Application of Modern Heuristic Optimization Algorithms for Solving Optimal Power Flow Problems”, given limited iterations of in evolutionary optimization process.

In this paper our group proposes and designs a lightweight convolutional neural network (CNN) for detecting facial emotions in real-time and in bulk to achieve a better classification effect. We verify whether our model is effective by creating a real-time vision system. This system employs multi-task cascaded convolutional networks (MTCNN) to complete face detection and transmit the obtained face coordinates to the facial emotions classification model we designed firstly. Then it accomplishes the task of emotion classification. Multi-task cascaded convolutional networks have a cascade detection feature, one of which can be used alone, thereby reducing the occupation of memory resources. Our expression classification model employs Global Average Pooling to replace the fully connected layer in the traditional deep convolution neural network model. Each channel of the feature map is associated with the corresponding category, eliminating the black box characteristics of the fully connected layer to a certain extent. At the same time, our model marries the residual modules and depth-wise separable convolutions, reducing large quantities of parameters and making the model more portable. Finally, our model is tested on the FER-2013 dataset. It only takes 3.1% of the 16GB memory, that is, only 0.496GB memory is needed to complete the task of classifying facial expressions. Not only can our model be stored in an 872.9 kilobytes file, but also its accuracy has reached 67% on the FER-2013 dataset. And it has good detection and recognition effects on those figures which are out of the dataset.

Energy storage is essential for balancing the generation and load in power systems. Building a battery energy storage system (BESS) with retired battery packs from electric vehicles (EVs) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) is one possible way to subsidize the price of EV/PHEV batteries, and at the same time mitigating forecast error introduced by load and renewable energy sources in power systems. This paper proposes a detailed framework to evaluate end-of-life (EOL) EV/PHEV batteries in BESS application. The framework consists of three parts. A generalized model for battery degradation is first introduced. It is followed by modeling the battery retirement process in its first life. Two vehicle types—EV and PHEV—as well as two retirement modes—nominal and realistic modes—are considered. Finally, the application of the second-life BESS in power systems is modeled in a detailed economic dispatch (ED) problem. This is how second-life BESS’s performance translates into cost savings on power generation. An optimization problem is formulated to maximize total cost savings in power generation over the battery’s second life. This is done by striking a balance between short-term benefit (daily cost savings) and long-term benefit (cost savings through service years). Numerical results validate the effectiveness of the proposed framework/models. They show that battery usage and retirement criterion in its first life directly affect the performance in its second life application. In our case study, EV battery packs possess larger EOL energy capacities and consequently generate more cost savings in the second life. However, the BESS built from retired PHEV batteries has higher cost savings per MWh. It is because, with the proposed degradation model, battery health is better preserved in PHEV applications. Compared to nominal retirement mode, realistic retirement mode results in extra cost savings due to the reduced first-life service years.

The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was declared a global public health emergency on 31 January 2020. Emergency medicine procedures in Emergency Department should be optimized to cope with the current COVID-19 pandemic by providing subspecialty services, reducing the spread of nosocomial infections, and promoting its capabilities to handle emerging diseases. Thus, the Chinese Society of Emergency Medicine and Wuhan Society of Emergency Medicine drafted this consensus together to address concerns of medical staffs who work in Emergency Department. Based on in-depth review of COVID-19 diagnosis and treatment plans, literatures, as well as management approval, this consensus proposes recommendations for improving the rationalization and efficiency of emergency processes, reducing the risk of nosocomial infections, preventing hospital viral transmission, and ensuring patient safety.

Abstract Background In Tianjin, China, there is a relatively high prevalence of HIV in men who have sex with men (MSM). The number of HIV cases in Tianjin is also increasing. We investigated the HIV molecular transmission network, genetic tropisms, and drug resistance mutations in Tianjin. Methods Blood samples were collected from 510 newly diagnosed antiretroviral therapy (ART)-naïve HIV-1-infected subjects among MSM in Tianjin. Partial pol and env genes were sequenced and used for phylogenetic, genetic tropism, and genotypic drug resistance analyses. Molecular clusters were identified with 1.5% genetic distance and 90% bootstrap support. Results Among the 436 HIV-1 pol sequences obtained from the study participants, various genotypes were identified, including CRF01_AE (56.9%), CRF07_BC (27.8%), B (7.3%), CRF55_01B (4.1%), unique recombinant forms (URFs) (3.7%), and CRF59_01B (0.2%). A higher prevalence of X4 viruses was observed in individuals infected with CRF55_01B (56.3%) and CRF01_AE (46.2%) than with other subtypes. Of all 110 sequences in the 36 clusters, 62 (56.4%) were observed in 23 CRF01_AE clusters and 18 (16.4%) in four CRF07_BC clusters. Eight sequences clustered with at least one other shared the same drug resistance mutation (DRM). In different cluster sizes, the distributions of individuals by age, presence of sexually transmitted disease, and presence of DRMs, were significantly different. Conclusion We revealed the characteristics of HIV molecular transmission, tropism, and DRMs of ART-naïve HIV-infected individuals among the MSM population in Tianjin. Identifying infected persons at risk of transmission is necessary for proposing counseling and treating these patients to reduce the risk of HIV transmission.

Background: Extracellular vesicle (EV) microRNAs have been documented in several studies to have significantly different expressions in hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related liver diseases, such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The current work aimed to observe the characteristics of EVs and EV miRNA expressions in patients with severe liver injury chronic hepatitis B (CHB) and patients with HBV-associated decompensated cirrhosis (DeCi). Methods: The characterization of the EVs in the serum was carried out for three different groups, namely, patients with severe liver injury-CHB, patients with DeCi, and healthy controls. EV miRNAs were analyzed using miRNA-seq and RT-qPCR arrays. Additionally, we assessed the predictive and observational values of the miRNAs with significant differential expressions in serum EVs. Results: Patients with severe liver injury-CHB had the highest EV concentrations when compared to the normal controls (NCs) and patients with DeCi (p < 0.001). The miRNA-seq of the NC and severe liver injury-CHB groups identified 268 differentially expressed miRNAs (|FC| > 2, p < 0.05). In this case, 15 miRNAs were verified using RT-qPCR, and it was found that novel-miR-172-5p and miR-1285-5p in the severe liver injury-CHB group showed marked downregulation in comparison to the NC group (p < 0.001). Furthermore, compared with the NC group, three EV miRNAs (novel-miR-172-5p, miR-1285-5p, and miR-335-5p) in the DeCi group showed various degrees of downregulated expression. However, when comparing the DeCi group with the severe liver injury-CHB group, only the expression of miR-335-5p in the DeCi group decreased significantly (p < 0.05). For the severe liver injury-CHB and DeCi groups, the addition of miR-335-5p improved the predictive accuracy of the serological levels, while miR-335-5p was significantly correlated with ALT, AST, AST/ALT, GGT, and AFP. Conclusions: The patients with severe liver injury-CHB had the highest number of EVs. The combination of novel-miR-172-5p and miR-1285-5p in serum EVs helped in predicting the progression of the NCs to severe liver injury-CHB, while the addition of EV miR-335-5p improved the serological accuracy of predicting the progression of severe liver injury-CHB to DeCi.

The absorption and scattering of impurity particles in turbid water cause the target signal light to be attenuated and to produce backscattered light, resulting in the reduced quality of underwater polarimetric imaging. As water turbidity increases, the effect of backscattered light becomes greater, making polarization imaging in highly turbid water a challenge. Theory and experiment show that the increase in the intensity of backscattered light leads to high noise gain in the underwater active polarization imaging model. In order to enhance image contrast and suppress noise gain in highly turbid water, we propose an underwater imaging enhancement method that appropriately combines the non-physical and physical models. The method uses contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE) for a certain number of cross-linear images (Imin) before calculating their polarization enhancement images, and it constructs joint filtering (multi-frame averaging and bilateral filtering) to suppress the high noise gain introduced by the imaging model and CLAHE. The experimental results in highly turbid water validate the rationality and feasibility of the proposed method, and the comparative processing results (52.7~98.6 NTU) outperform those of the conventional non-physical and physical model methods. The method maintains the complexity of the system and facilitates the application of conventional polarimetric imaging in harsher underwater environments.

Background: Maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) has been shown to be the most effective surgical therapy for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Despite high success rates, there are patients who are considered as non-responders to MMA. In order to triage and inform these patients on their expected prognosis of MMA before the surgery, this study aimed to develop, internally validate, and calibrate a prediction model for the presence of surgical success for MMA in patients with OSA. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted that included patients that had undergone MMA for moderate to severe OSA. Baseline clinical, polysomnographic, cephalometric, and drug-induced sleep endoscopy findings were recorded as potential predictors. Presence or absence of surgical success was recorded as outcome. Binary logistic regression analyses were conducted to develop the model. Performance and clinical values of the model were analyzed. Results: One hundred patients were included, of which sixty-seven (67%) patients reached surgical success. Anterior lower face height (ALFH) (OR: 0.93 [0.87–1.00], p = 0.05), superior posterior airway space (SPAS) (OR: 0.76 [0.62–0.92], p < 0.05), age (OR: 0.96 [0.91–1.01], p = 0.13), and a central apnea index (CAI) p < 0.05) were significant independent predictors in the model (significance level set at p = 0.20). The model showed acceptable discrimination with a shrunken area under the curve of 0.74, and acceptable calibration. The added predictive values for ruling in and out of surgical success were 0.21 and 0.32, respectively. Conclusions: Lower age at surgery, CAI < 5 events/hour, lower ALFH, and smaller SPAS were significant predictors for the surgical success of MMA. The discrimination, calibration, and clinical added values of the model were acceptable.

As an indispensable type of information, location data are used in various industries. Ultrawideband (UWB) technology has been used for indoor location estimation due to its excellent ranging performance. However, the accuracy of the location estimation results is heavily affected by the deployment of base stations; in particular, the base station deployment space is limited in certain scenarios. In underground mines, base stations must be placed on the roof to ensure signal coverage, which is almost coplanar in nature. Existing indoor positioning solutions suffer from both difficulties in the correct convergence of results and poor positioning accuracy under coplanar base-station conditions. To correctly estimate position in coplanar base-station scenarios, this paper proposes a novel iterative method. Based on the Newton iteration method, a selection range for the initial value and iterative convergence control conditions were derived to improve the convergence performance of the algorithm. In this paper, we mathematically analyze the impact of the localization solution for coplanar base stations and derive the expression for the localization accuracy performance. The proposed method demonstrated a positioning accuracy of 5 cm in the experimental campaign for the comparative analysis, with the multi-epoch observation results being stable within 10 cm. Furthermore, it was found that, when base stations are coplanar, the test point accuracy can be improved by an average of 63.54% compared to the conventional positioning algorithm. In the base-station coplanar deployment scenario, the upper bound of the CDF convergence in the proposed method outperformed the conventional positioning algorithm by about 30%.

This retrospective cohort study aimed: (1) to analyze the influence of apnea-predominant versus hypopnea-predominant obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) on surgical outcome after maxillomandibular advancement (MMA); and (2) to evaluate whether MMA alters the presence of apnea-predominant to hypopnea-predominant OSA more than vice versa. In total 96 consecutive moderate to severe OSA patients, who underwent MMA between 2010 and 2021, were included. The baseline apnea–hypopnea index, apnea index, and oxygen desaturation index were significantly higher in apnea-predominant group, while the hypopnea index was significantly higher in hypopnea-predominant group (p < 0.001). No significant difference was found between apnea-predominant group and hypopnea-predominant group in the degree of advancement of A-point, B-point, and pogonion. Surgical success and cure were significantly higher in the hypopnea-predominant group compared to the apnea-predominant group, 57.4% versus 82.1% (p = 0.021) and 13.2% versus 55.5% (p = 0.012), respectively. Of the 68 (70.8%) apnea-predominant patients, 37 (54.4%) shifted to hypopnea-predominant after MMA. Of the 28 (29.2%) hypopnea-predominant patients, 7 (25%) shifted to apnea-predominant postoperatively. These findings suggest that preoperative hypopnea-predominant OSA patients might be more suitable candidates for MMA compared to preoperative apnea-predominant OSA patients. Additionally, MMA proved to alter the presence of apnea-predominant to hypopnea-predominant OSA to a larger extend than vice versa.

This systematic review aimed to comparatively evaluate the efficacy and safety of maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) and upper airway stimulation (UAS) in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) treatment. A MEDLINE and Embase database search of articles on MMA and/or UAS for OSA was conducted. Twenty-one MMA studies and nine UAS studies were included. All the MMA studies demonstrated a reduction in apnea hypopnea index (AHI) postoperatively, and success rates ranged from 41.1% to 100%. Ten MMA studies reported pre- and postoperative Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS), and all but one study demonstrated a reduction in ESS. In the UAS studies, all but one demonstrated a reduction in AHI, and success rates ranged from 26.7% to 77.8%. In the eight UAS studies reporting pre- and postoperative ESS, an ESS reduction was demonstrated. No studies reported any deaths related to MMA or UAS. The most common postoperative complications after MMA and UAS were facial paresthesia in the mandibular area and discomfort due to electrical stimulation, respectively. This systematic review suggests that both MMA and UAS are effective and generally safe therapies for OSA. However, due to the limitations of the included studies, there is no evidence yet to directly compare these two procedures in OSA treatment.

Abstract Introduction Strong evidence is lacking to support effectiveness of currently implemented tuberculosis infection prevention control (TB-IPC) measures for preventing nosocomial tuberculosis (TB) transmission. This 13-year analysis is the longest follow-up investigation to date to identify risk factors underlying nosocomial TB transmission. Methods We monitored all staff of Beijing Chest Hospital each year from 2006 to 2018. Age, gender, duration, department, education, income, respirator, ultraviolet, and ventilation were chosen as variables. Univariate cox regression, correlation analysis, and multivariate cox regression were analyzed sequentially. Background: The antiviral effects of Novaferon, a potent antiviral protein drug, on COVID-19 was evaluated in the laboratory, and in a randomized, open-label, parallel-group trial. Methods: In the laboratory, Novaferon's inhibition of viral replication in cells infected with SARS-CoV-2, and prevention of SARS-CoV-2 entry into healthy cells was determined. Antiviral effects of Novaferon in COVID-19 patients with treatment of Novaferon, Novaferon plus Lopinavir/Ritonavir, or Lopinavir/Ritonavir were evaluated. The primary endpoint was the SARS-CoV-2 clearance rates on day six of treatment, and the secondary endpoint was the time to SARS-CoV-2 clearance. Results: Novaferon inhibited viral replication (EC50 = 1.02 ng/ml), and prevented viral infection (EC50 = 0.10 ng/ml). Results from the 89 enrolled COVID-19 patients showed that both Novaferon and Novaferon plus Lopinavir/Ritonavir groups had significantly higher viral clearance rates on day six than Lopinavir/Ritonavir group (50.0% vs. 24.1%, p = 0.0400, and 60.0% vs. 24.1%, p = 0.0053). The median time to viral clearance was six days, six days, and nine days for three groups, respectively, a 3-day reduction in both the Novaferon and Novaferon plus Lopinavir/Ritonavir groups compared with the Lopinavir/Ritonavir group. Conclusions: Novaferon exhibited anti-SARS-CoV-2 effects in vitro and in COVID-19 patients. These data justify further evaluation of Novaferon. Objective(s): This study aimed to investigate the glucose and lipid metabolism improving effect of the total flavonoids from Selaginella tamariscina (Beauv.) Spring (TFST) on db/db mice, and to study its mechanism of action.Materials and Methods: The db/db mice were divided into 5 groups: the normal group (NC), the diabetic group (DM), the gliclazide group (GZ), the DM+TFST (110 mg/kg), and the DM+TFST (220 mg/kg). The body weight, blood glucose, INS, GC, TC, TG, LDL, and HDL were detected. HE staining was used to observe the liver and pancreas. Urine was tested by UPLC-QTOF-MS to study the metabolic differences of each group, coupled with SIMCA-P13.0 for PCA and OPLS-DA analysis, to identify potential biomarkers, find the metabolic pathway. Western blot was used to examine liver tissue of mice for studying effect of TFST on the PPAR-γ/PI3K/GLU4 pathway.Results: TFST can reduce the weight and levels of TC, TG, and LDL-C, increase the level of GC in blood, and reduce the fat accumulation and inflammation in the liver, and repair the islet cell. 13 biomarkers were identified, they are mainly involved in amino acid metabolism, and purine and pyrimidine metabolism. The results of Western blot show TFST can improve the utilization rate of GLU4 by regulating PPAR-γ and PI3K expression in the liver of db/db mice.Conclusion: TFST can improve glucose and lipid metabolism of DM, which relates to regulation of the PPAR-γ/PI3K/GLU4 signaling pathway, and affect the amino acid metabolism, purine, and pyrimidine metabolism.

Precise measurement of two-neutrino double beta decay (DBD) half-life is an important step for the searches of Majorana neutrinos with neutrinoless double beta decay. We report the measurement of DBD half-life of 136Xe using the PandaX-4T dual-phase Time Projection Chamber (TPC) with 3.7-tonne natural xenon and the first 94.9-day physics data release. The background model in the fiducial volume is well constrained in situ by events in the outer active region. With a 136Xe exposure of 15.5 kg-year, we establish the half-life as 2.27±0.03stat.±0.10syst.×1021 years. This is the first DBD half-life measurement with natural xenon and demonstrates the physics capability of a large-scale liquid xenon TPC in the field of rare event searches.

The chromosome numbers and karyotypes of 79 species and accessions from 19 plant families growing on the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau were investigated. For 31 species, we provided first insights into their chromosomal numbers and karyotypic characteristics. Diploids and tetraploids existed from 1,500 to 4,851 m, while pentaploid, hexaploid, heptaploid, octaploid, and decaploid accessions tended to occur above 3,000 m. The frequency of polyploidy was relatively low below 3,000 m, indicating the relative stability of habitats on the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau below 3,000 m. However, 80% of diploids occurred above 3,000 m, indicating that partial polyploids may be produced from intraspecific polyploidy. The difference in polyploidy frequency levels among the different habitats were striking, being about 40% in hillsides and wetland, approximately 25% of alpine meadow, meadow and shrublands, and 7% on benchland and wetlands.

Understanding insincere language (sarcasm and teasing) is a fundamental part of communication and crucial for maintaining social relationships. This can be a challenging task for cochlear implant (CIs) users who receive degraded suprasegmental information important for perceiving a speaker’s attitude. We measured the perception of speaker sincerity (literal positive, literal negative, sarcasm, and teasing) in 16 adults with CIs using an established video inventory. Participants were presented with audio-only and audio-visual social interactions between two people with and without supporting verbal context. They were instructed to describe the content of the conversation and answer whether the speakers meant what they said. Results showed that subjects could not always identify speaker sincerity, even when the content of the conversation was perfectly understood. This deficit was greater for perceiving insincere relative to sincere utterances. Performance improved when additional visual cues or verbal context cues were provided. Subjects who were better at perceiving the content of the interactions in the audio-only condition benefited more from having additional visual cues for judging the speaker’s sincerity, suggesting that the two modalities compete for cognitive recourses. Perception of content also did not correlate with perception of speaker sincerity, suggesting that what was said vs. how it was said were perceived using unrelated segmental versus suprasegmental cues. Our results further showed that subjects who had access to lower-order resolved harmonic information provided by hearing aids in the contralateral ear identified speaker sincerity better than those who used implants alone. These results suggest that measuring speech recognition alone in CI users does not fully describe the outcome. Our findings stress the importance of measuring social communication functions in people with CIs.

Aberrant expression of microRNAs may affect tumorigenesis and progression by regulating their target genes. This study aimed to construct a risk model for predicting the prognosis of patients with lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) based on differentially expressed microRNA-regulated target genes. The miRNA sequencing data, RNA sequencing data, and patients’ LUAD clinical data were downloaded from the The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Differentially expressed miRNAs and genes were screened out by combining differential analysis with LASSO regression analysis to further screen out miRNAs associated with patients’ prognosis, and target gene prediction was performed for these miRNAs using a target gene database. Overlapping gene screening was performed for target genes and differentially expressed genes. LASSO regression analysis and survival analysis were then used to identify key genes. Risk score equations for prognostic models were established using multifactorial COX regression analysis to construct survival prognostic models, and the accuracy of the models was evaluated using subject working characteristic curves. The groups were divided into high- and low-risk groups according to the median risk score, and the correlation with the clinicopathological characteristics of the patients was observed. A total of 123 up-regulated miRNAs and 22 down-regulated miRNAs were obtained in this study. Five prognosis-related miRNAs were screened using LASSO regression analysis and Kaplan-Meier method validation, and their target genes were screened with the overlap of differentially expressed genes before multifactorial COX analysis finally resulted in an 11-gene risk model for predicting patient prognosis. The area under the ROC curve proved that the model has high accuracy. The 11-gene risk-prediction model constructed in this study may be an effective predictor of prognosis.

Background: Lymphoid-restricted membrane protein (LRMP) is an endoplasmic reticulum-associated protein that is expressed in a developmentally regulated manner in both B and T cell lineages. However, the role of LRMP in the growth, prognosis and immune infiltration in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) remains unclear.Method: The expression levels of LRMP mRNA in tumor and normal tissues were analyzed using Tumor Immune Estimation Resource 2.0 (TIMER 2.0) and Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis 2 (GEPIA 2). LRMP protein expression was examined using the Human Protein Atlas. In vitro experiments, including qRT-PCR Western blot and immunohistochemistry staining were also performed to investigate LRMP expression. GEPIA2 and Kaplan-Meier plotter databases were used to analyze the clinical prognostic significance of LRMP. To further confirm the underlying function of LRMP, the data were analyzed using gene set enrichment analysis. Moreover, we also constructed plasmids to overexpress LRMP and explored the effect of LRMP in A549 cell line. Additionally, Tumor Immune single-cell Hub was used to investigate the distribution of LRMP in the LUAD immune microenvironment; TIMER and CIBERSORT were used to investigate the relationships among LRMP, LRMP co-expressed genes, and tumor-infiltrating immune cells; Finally, the correlations between LRMP and immune checkpoints were analyzed using TIMER 2.0.Results: The expression of LRMP was significantly lower in LUAD tissues and cell lines. High LRMP expression is associated with a better prognosis in patients with LUAD. In vitro experimental studies demonstrated that overexpression of LRMP could decrease the proliferation, migration and invasion in A549 cells, and downregulated multiple oncogenic signaling pathways, including p-STAT3, p-PI3K-p-AKT, p-MEK and EMT pathways. GSEA results showed that immuno-related and cell adhesion pathways were enriched in samples with high LRMP expression. LRMP and its co-expressed genes were positively correlated with various tumor-infiltrating immune cells and their markers. Additionally, LRMP positively correlated with immune checkpoints.Conclusions: Our data suggest that LRMP may act as a tumor suppressor gene and indicates a better prognosis. Moreover, LRMP is associated with immune infiltrates which may be involved in immunotherapy response in LUAD. Further studies are needed to validate these findings.

Abstract Background N-Acetyl glucosamine (GlcNAc) and N-Acetyl chitooligosaccharides (N-Acetyl COSs) exhibit many biological activities, and have been widely used in the pharmaceutical, agriculture, food, and chemical industries. Particularly, higher N-Acetyl COSs with degree of polymerization from 4 to 7 ((GlcNAc)4–(GlcNAc)7) show good antitumor and antimicrobial activity, as well as possessing strong stimulating activity toward natural killer cells. Thus, it is of great significance to discover a β-N-acetyl glucosaminidase (NAGase) that can not only produce GlcNAc, but also synthesize N-Acetyl COSs. Results The gene encoding the novel β-N-acetyl glucosaminidase, designated CmNAGase, was cloned from Chitinolyticbacter meiyuanensis SYBC-H1. The deduced amino acid sequence of CmNAGase contains a glycoside hydrolase family 20 catalytic module that shows low identity (12–35%) with the corresponding domain of most well-characterized NAGases. The CmNAGase gene was highly expressed with an active form in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) cells. The specific activity of purified CmNAGase toward p-nitrophenyl-N-acetyl glucosaminide (pNP-GlcNAc) was 4878.6 U/mg of protein. CmNAGase had a molecular mass of 92 kDa, and its optimum activity was at pH 5.4 and 40 °C. The V max, K m, K cat, and K cat/K m of CmNAGase for pNP-GlcNAc were 16,666.67 μmol min−1 mg−1, 0.50 μmol mL−1, 25,555.56 s−1, and 51,111.12 mL μmol−1 s−1, respectively. Analysis of the hydrolysis products of N-Acetyl COSs and colloidal chitin revealed that CmNAGase is a typical exo-acting NAGase. Particularly, CmNAGase can synthesize higher N-Acetyl COSs ((GlcNAc)3–(GlcNAc)7) from (GlcNAc)2–(GlcNAc)6, respectively, showed that it possesses transglycosylation activity. In addition, CmNAGase also has reverse hydrolysis activity toward GlcNAc, synthesizing various linked GlcNAc dimers. Conclusions The observations recorded in this study that CmNAGase is a novel NAGase with exo-acting, transglycosylation, and reverse hydrolysis activities, suggest a possible application in the production of GlcNAc or higher N-Acetyl COSs.

Chrysanthemum morifolium (Chr) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that has been used in the treatment of inflammation-linked diseases for hundreds of years. Naringenin (Nar) and apigenin (Api) are the major active components in aqueous extracts of C. morifolium. The aim of our study was to clarify the roles of Chr, Nar and Api in ameliorating depression-like behaviour induced by corticosterone. First, the behavioural and biochemical indicators closely related to depression were examined to evaluate the therapeutic effects of Chr/Nar/Api on a depression model. Then, a metabolomics approach was utilized to screen for biomarkers and related pathways between a control group and Chr/Nar/Api groups. The comprehensive results revealed that Chr/Nar/Api exerted anti-depressant effects through interfering with tryptophan metabolism, arginine and prolinemetabolism, citrate cycle, niacin and niacinamide metabolism, phenylalanine metabolism, and alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism. The mechanism of Chr/Api/Nar in the treatment of depression was elucidated based on material and energy metabolism. Moreover, Nar could be used as a substitute for Chr for reversing depression-like behaviour, and Api was similar to a positive drug in terms of function on depression. The integrated metabolomics approach demonstrated here should be an effective method for interpreting the function of herbs from TCM and clarifying the mechanism of their components in future studies.

Accurate forecasting of solar photovoltaic (PV) power for the next day plays an important role in unit commitment, economic dispatch, and storage system management. However, forecasting solar PV power in high temporal resolution such as five-minute resolution is challenging because most of PV forecasting models can only achieve the same temporal resolution as their predictors(i.e., weather variables), whose temporal resolution is usually low (i.e., hourly). To address this challenge, similarity-based forecasting models (SBFMs) are advocated in this paper to forecast PV power in high temporal resolution using low temporal resolution weather variables. To effectively generalize the model for different scenarios of available weather data, three forecasting models (i.e., basic SBFM, categorical SBFM, and hierarchical SBFM) are proposed. As a case study, the PV power generated by the solar panels on the rooftop of a commercial building is forecasted for the next day with a five-minute resolution under three different scenarios of available weather data. The leave-one-out cross-validation analysis reveals that using only two or three weather variables, the proposed SBFMs can achieve higher forecasting accuracy than several benchmark models.

Monitoring train operation status is one of the most important tasks for ensuring rail operation safety. Pantograph and catenary (PAC) are collecting systems of the electric current from traction power supply system, and the stability of the contact between pantograph and catenary guarantees the stable power. However, most existing contact point (CPT) detection methods are always difficult to achieve precise positioning results, especially in complicated background. This article proposes a novel fast and accurate contact point detection method based on multiple strategies, which combine three modules. First, an improved kernelized correlation filter model in real-time tracking module was adopted to track the contact region. Then the pixel-level detection module was used to detect contact point in contact region via the proposed contact point regression residual network (CPRR-Net). Finally, a filter-based optimization module was added to correct the contact position using the Kalman filter. This work additionally employed a new rail dataset PAC-TPL2020 to prove the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed multiple strategies in real-world scenarios, and the experimental results demonstrated the robustness and high accuracy (97.07% within 3 pixels and 99.97% within 5 pixels) of our model. It is noteworthy that our mothed runs at 65 frames per second for monitoring PAC contact points.

Abstract Mobile crowd sensing (MCS) is a novel emerging paradigm that leverages sensor-equipped smart mobile terminals (e.g., smartphones, tablets, and intelligent wearable devices) to collect information. Compared with traditional data collection methods, such as construct wireless sensor network infrastructures, MCS has advantages of lower data collection costs, easier system maintenance, and better scalability. However, the limited capabilities make a mobile crowd terminal only support limited data types, which may result in a failure of supporting high-dimension data collection tasks. This paper proposed a task allocation algorithm to solve the problem of high-dimensional data collection in mobile crowd sensing network. The low-cost and balance-participating algorithm (LCBPA) aims to reduce the data collection cost and improve the equality of node participation by trading-off between them. Energic deficiency of cardiomyocytes is a dominant cause of heart failure. An antianginal agent, trimetazidine improves the myocardial energetic supply. We presumed that trimetazidine protects the cardiomyocytes from the pressure overload-induced heart failure through improving the myocardial metabolism. C57BL/6 mice were subjected to transverse aortic constriction (TAC). After 4 weeks of TAC, heart failure was observed in mice manifested by an increased left ventricular (LV) chamber dimension, an impaired LV ejection fraction evaluated by echocardiography analysis, which were significantly restrained by the treatment of trimetazidine. Trimetazidine restored the mitochondrial morphology and function tested by cardiac transmission electron microscope and mitochondrial dynamic proteins analysis. Positron emission tomography showed that trimetazidine significantly elevated the glucose uptake in TAC mouse heart. Trimetazidine restrained the impairments of the insulin signaling in TAC mice and promoted the translocation of glucose transporter type IV (GLUT4) from the storage vesicle to membrane. However, these cardioprotective effects of trimetazidine in TAC mice were notably abolished by compound C (C.C), a specific AMPK inhibitor. The enlargement of neonatal rat cardiomyocyte induced by mechanical stretch, together with the increased expression of hypertrophy-associated proteins, mitochondria deformation and dysfunction were significantly ameliorated by trimetazidine. Trimetazidine enhanced the isolated cardiomyocyte glucose uptake in vitro. These benefits brought by trimetazidine were also removed with the presence of C.C. In conclusion, trimetazidine attenuated pressure overload-induced heart failure through improving myocardial mitochondrial function and glucose uptake via AMPK.

Soft robots and devices exploit highly deformable materials that are capable of changes in shape to allow conformable physical contact for controlled manipulation. While soft robots are resilient to mechanical impact, they are susceptible to mechanical damage, such as tears and punctures. The development of self‐healing materials and actuators continues to attract increasing interest, in particular, with respect to integrating self‐healing polymers to create bioinspired soft self‐healing devices. Herein, a novel piezoelectric‐driven self‐healing leaf‐motion mimic actuator is designed by combining a thermoplastic methyl thioglycolate–modified styrene–butadiene–styrene (MGSBS) elastomer with a piezoelectric macrofiber composite (MFC) for self‐sensing applications. This article is the first demonstration of a self‐sensing and self‐healing actuator‐sensor system, which is driven by a piezoelectric actuator and can mimic leaf motion. The leaf‐motion actuator combines built‐in dynamic sensing and room‐temperature self‐healing capabilities to restore macroscale cutting damage with an intrinsically high bandwidth of up to 10 kHz. The feasibility and potential of the new actuator for use in complex soft autonomous systems are demonstrated. These new results help to address the emerging influence of self‐healing soft actuators and the challenges of sensing, actuation, and damage resistance in soft robotics.

Integrins are involved in extracellular and intracellular signaling and are often aberrantly expressed in tumors. Integrin beta 2 (ITGB2) has previously been demonstrated to be correlated with the host defense. However, the expression profile and role of ITGB2 in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remain unclear. Here, we found that the genetic alterations in ITGB2 was predominated by gene mutation and copy number deletion using cBioPortal analysis, and its expression was downregulated in the NSCLC tissues, as validated by the UALCAN, TCGA, and GEO databases and our tissue samples. Kaplan–Meier (KM) plotter analysis revealed that patients with a lower ITGB2 expression had a shorter overall survival (OS) time (p = 0.01). Moreover, 1089 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the NSCLC tissues were screened using the TCGA database. The GO and KEGG enrichment analysis showed that the DEGs were closely associated with immune processes and cell adhesion. The protein–protein interaction (PPI) network revealed that 10 of 15 EMT-related genes among the DEGs might lead to the metastasis of NSCLC. Concomitantly, the expression of ITGB2 was positively correlated with the infiltration of Treg cells and Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC). Biologically, the ectopic expression of ITGB2 significantly inhibited the proliferation and metastasis of NSCLC cells. Mechanistically, we demonstrated that ITGB2 suppressed the expression of N-cadherin, Vimentin, Slug, Snail, and Twist, while it promoted E-cadherin expression, according to gain-of-function studies. In conclusion, ITGB2 can inhibit the proliferation and migration of NSCLC cells, leading to a poor prognosis, via epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) signaling.

The manifestations of hyperthyroidism-related myocardial damage are multitudinous, including arrhythmia, dilated cardiomyopathy, valvular diseases, and even cardiogenic shock. Acute myocarditis induced by thyrotoxicosis had been reported in a few studies. However, attention on its prevalence and underlying mechanisms is sorely lacking. Its long-term harm is often ignored, and it may eventually develop into dilated cardiomyopathy and heart failure. We report a case of Graves' disease with a progressive elevation of hypersensitive cardiac troponin-I at several days after discontinuation of the patient's anti-thyroid drugs. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) showed inflammatory edema of some cardiomyocytes (stranded enhanced signals under T2 mapping), myocardial necrosis (scattered enhanced signals under T1 late gadolinium enhancement) in the medial and inferior epicardial wall, with a decreased left ventricular systolic function (48%), which implied a possibility of acute myocarditis induced by thyrotoxicosis. The patient was then given a transient glucocorticoid (GC) treatment and achieved a good curative effect. Inspired by this case, we aim to systematically elaborate the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of hyperthyroidism-induced autoimmune myocarditis. Additionally, we emphasize the importance of CMRI and GC therapy in the diagnosis and treatment of hyperthyroidism-related myocarditis.

(1) Background: Sublobar resection can be used as an alternative surgical strategy for early-stage non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. However, the choice between wedge resection and segmentectomy remains contentious. In this study, we investigated the optimal surgical procedure for sublobar resection in patients with NSCLC ≤ 2 cm with a lobe-specific analysis; (2) Methods: Data for patients with T1N0M0 with a diameter of ≤2 cm who had undergone sublobar resection were retrieved. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to reduce the inherent bias, and the Kaplan–Meier method and log-rank tests were used to assess the differences in survival; (3) Results: A total of 1882 patients were identified after the PSM. Patients with NSCLC ≤ 2 cm who had undergone segmentectomy showed better survival than those who had undergone wedge resection. However, when NSCLC was ≤1 cm, there was no significant difference in OS between the two groups. This demonstrated an OS advantage of segmentectomy over wedge resection for patients with NSCLC tumors of 1–2 cm (p = 0.024). Further analysis indicated that this survival benefit was only observed in patients with right upper NSCLC of 1–2 cm, but not with NSCLC in the other four lobes; (4) Conclusions: Segmentectomy showed a greater survival benefit than wedge resection only in patients with NSCLC of 1–2 cm, particularly those with primary tumors in the right upper lobe. Therefore, we propose a lobe-specific sublobar resection strategy for early-stage NSCLC patients (tumors of 1–2 cm) who cannot tolerate lobectomy.

Resveratrol is a polyphenolic compound with anti-oxidation effects. The mechanisms underlying the antioxidant effects of resveratrol in duck intestinal epithelial cells remain unclear. The protective effects of resveratrol against oxidative stress induced by H2O2 on immortalized duck intestinal epithelial cells (IDECs) were investigated. IDECs were established by transferring the lentivirus-mediated simian virus 40 large T (SV40T) gene into small intestinal epithelial cells derived from duck embryos. IDECs were morphologically indistinguishable from the primary intestinal epithelial cells. The marker protein cytokeratin 18 (CK18) was also detected in the cultured cells. We found that resveratrol significantly increased the cell viability and activity of catalase and decreased the level of intracellular reactive oxygen species and malondialdehyde, as well as the apoptosis rate induced by H2O2 (p < 0.05). Resveratrol up-regulated the expression of NRF2, p-NRF2, p-AKT, and p-P38 proteins and decreased the levels of cleaved caspase-3 and cleaved caspase-9 and the ratio of Bax to Bcl-2 in H2O2-induced IDECs (p < 0.05). Our findings revealed that resveratrol might alleviate oxidative stress by the PI3K/AKT and P38 MAPK signal pathways and inhibit apoptosis by altering the levels of cleaved caspase-3, cleaved caspase-9, Bax, and Bcl-2 in IDECs exposed to H2O2.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has swept through the world at a tremendous speed, and there is still limited data available on the treatment for COVID-19. The mortality of severely and critically ill COVID-19 patients in the Optical Valley Branch of Tongji Hospital was low. We aimed to analyze the available treatment strategies to reduce mortality.Methods: In this retrospective, single-center study, we included 1,106 COVID-19 patients admitted to the Optical Valley Branch of Tongji Hospital from February 9 to March 9, 2020. Cases were analyzed for demographic and clinical features, laboratory data, and treatment methods. Outcomes were followed up until March 29, 2020.Results: Inflammation-related indices (hs-CRP, ESR, serum ferritin, and procalcitonin) were significantly higher in severe and critically ill patients than those in moderate patients. The levels of cytokines, including IL-6, IL2R, IL-8, and TNF-α, were also higher in the critical patients. Incidence of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in the severely and critically ill group was 23.0% (99/431). Sixty-one patients underwent invasive mechanical ventilation. The correlation between SpO2/FiO2 and PaO2/FiO2 was confirmed, and the cut-off value of SpO2/FiO2 related to survival was 134.43. The mortality of patients with low SpO2/FiO2 (134.43) (72.7 vs. 33.3%). Among critical patients, the application rates of glucocorticoid therapy, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), and anticoagulation treatment reached 55.2% (238/431), 7.2% (31/431), and 37.1% (160/431), respectively. Among the intubated patients, the application rates of glucocorticoid therapy, CRRT, and anticoagulation treatment were respectively 77.0% (47/61), 54.1% (33/61), and 98.4% (60/61).Conclusion: No vaccines or specific antiviral drugs for COVID-19 have been shown to be sufficiently safe and effective to date. Comprehensive treatment including ventilatory support, multiple organ function preservation, glucocorticoid use, renal replacement therapy, anticoagulation, and restrictive fluid management was the main treatment strategy. Early recognition and intervention, multidisciplinary collaboration, multi-organ function support, and personalized treatment might be the key for reducing mortality.

Background: Many studies on circular RNAs (circRNAs) have recently been published. However, the function of circRNAs in recurrent implantation failure (RIF) is unknown and remains to be explored. This study aims to determine the regulatory mechanisms of circRNAs in RIF.Methods: Microarray data of RIF circRNA (GSE147442), microRNA (miRNA; GSE71332), and messenger RNA (mRNA; GSE103465) were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database to identify differentially expressed circRNA, miRNA, and mRNA. The circRNA–miRNA–mRNA network was constructed by Cytoscape 3.8.0 software, then the protein–protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed by STRING database, and the hub genes were identified by cytoHubba plug-in. The circRNA–miRNA–hub gene regulatory subnetwork was formed to understand the regulatory axis of hub genes in RIF. Finally, the Gene Ontology (GO) analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis of the hub genes were performed by clusterProfiler package of Rstudio software, and Reactome Functional Interaction (FI) plug-in was used for reactome analysis to comprehensively analyze the mechanism of hub genes in RIF.Results: A total of eight upregulated differentially expressed circRNAs (DECs), five downregulated DECs, 56 downregulated differentially expressed miRNAs (DEmiRs), 104 upregulated DEmiRs, 429 upregulated differentially expressed genes (DEGs), and 1,067 downregulated DEGs were identified regarding RIF. The miRNA response elements of 13 DECs were then predicted. Seven overlapping miRNAs were obtained by intersecting the predicted miRNA and DEmiRs. Then, 56 overlapping mRNAs were obtained by intersecting the predicted target mRNAs of seven miRNAs with 1,496 DEGs. The circRNA–miRNA–mRNA network and PPI network were constructed through six circRNAs, seven miRNAs, and 56 mRNAs; and four hub genes (YWHAZ, JAK2, MYH9, and RAP2C) were identified. The circRNA–miRNA–hub gene regulatory subnetwork with nine regulatory axes was formed in RIF. Functional enrichment analysis and reactome analysis showed that these four hub genes were closely related to the biological functions and pathways of RIF.Conclusion: The results of this study provide further understanding of the potential pathogenesis from the perspective of circRNA-related competitive endogenous RNA network in RIF.

Introduction China has the largest number of patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) in the world. Numerous pharmacological strategies are available for CHD in routine clinical practice. CHD-induced angina pectoris affects patients’ quality of life and is a key predictor of prognosis. This study will compare the effectiveness of different antiangina treatments, particularly ATP-sensitive potassium channel (KATP) activators, in the Central China District. This proposal underpins the first comparison of antiangina therapies in patients with CHD in China using a multicentre, retrospective, hospital system-based assessment.Methods and analysis This retrospective real-world study will assess the largest hospital databases in Wuhan City in Central China to evaluate outcomes including mortality, revascularisation, myocardial infarction (MI), stroke and other cardio-cerebrovascular events in patients with CHD. Data will be consecutively collected between 1 April 2009 and 31 August 2019 through the hospital information system, laboratory information system and hospital imaging system. All data will be standardised by at least three independent technicians and statisticians using International Classification of Diseases Tenth Version, ISO15189 and Specification for Drafting of Basic Dataset of Electronic Medical Record (WS445). The data will include patient demographics, physical and laboratory examinations, imaging examinations, medical history, diagnosis, treatment options and payment information. We will compare KATP activators with other antiangina drugs using propensity score matching. The primary outcome will be major adverse cardiovascular events, defined as a composite of death, MI, stroke and rehospitalisation due to angina.Ethics and dissemination The current study is designed to translate research into improved care for patients. The institutional review board of Wuhan Tongji Hospital (Liao Jiazhi, Du Aiye, Chen Zhishui, Fang Feng, Yu Shiying, Liu Dong and Li Yaping) approved the study protocol (version 1.0, July 2019, approval number TJ-IRB201909112). We present PandaX-II constraints on candidate WIMP-nucleon effective interactions involving the nucleon or WIMP spin, including, in addition to standard axial spin-dependent (SD) scattering, various couplings among vector and axial currents, magnetic and electric dipole moments, and tensor interactions. The data set corresponding to a total exposure of 54-ton-days is reanalyzed to determine constraints as a function of the WIMP mass and isospin coupling. We obtain WIMP-nucleon cross section bounds of 1.6×10−41 cm2 and 9.0×10−42 cm2 (90% c.l.) for neutron-only SD and tensor coupling, respectively, for a mass MWIMP∼40GeV/c2. The SD limits are the best currently available for MWIMP>40GeV/c2. We show that PandaX-II has reached a sensitivity sufficient to probe a variety of other candidate spin-dependent interactions at the weak scale.
