Abstract

There is an urgent need to improve the infrastructure supporting the reuse of scholarly data. A diverse set of stakeholders-representing academia, industry, funding agencies, and scholarly publishers-have come together to design and jointly endorse a concise and measureable set of principles that we refer to as the FAIR Data Principles. The intent is that these may act as a guideline for those wishing to enhance the reusability of their data holdings. Distinct from peer initiatives that focus on the human scholar, the FAIR Principles put specific emphasis on enhancing the ability of machines to automatically find and use the data, in addition to supporting its reuse by individuals. This Comment is the first formal publication of the FAIR Principles, and includes the rationale behind them, and some exemplar implementations in the community.

Abstract

The Su-var(3)6 locus was mapped cytogenetically to 87B8-10 and several allelic mutations were identified. These results, combined with data from earlier studies, revealed a total of 11 mutations that influence the Su-var(3)6 locus. Six of these reveal a strong suppression of PEV while five have a weak suppressor effect. The cytologically visible deficiencies reveal a lack of all or part of the PP1 87B gene.

Abstract

Es besteht dringender Bedarf, die Infrastruktur für die Nachnutzung wissenschaftlicher Daten zu verbessern. Verschiedene Stakeholder aus Hochschulen, Industrieunternehmen, Forschungsförderern und wissenschaftlichen Verlagen haben sich zusammengeschlossen, um gemeinsam einen präzise gefassten Satz von messbaren Prinzipien zu formulieren und zu unterstützen. Diese Prinzipien, die wir als FAIR-Data-Prinzipien bezeichnen, sollen als Leitlinie für die Verbesserung der Nachnutzbarkeit von Datenbeständen dienen. Im Unterschied zu Peer-Initiativen, deren Fokus auf menschlichen Wissenschaftler*innen liegt, richten die FAIR-Prinzipien ein besonderes Augenmerk darauf, Maschinen das automatische Auffinden und die Verwendung von Daten zu erleichtern und somit eine Wiederverwendung durch Menschen zu unterstützen. Dieser Kommentar stellt die erste offizielle Veröffentlichung der FAIR-Prinzipen dar. Er beinhaltet die ihnen zu Grunde liegenden Überlegungen und beispielhaft einige exemplarische Implementierungen innerhalb der Community. Die vorliegende deutsche Übersetzung des Dokuments entstand im Rahmen des Verbundprojektes EcoDM mit der Förderung des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) unter dem Förderkennzeichen 16DWWQP.

Abstract

There is an urgent need to improve the infrastructure supporting the reuse of scholarly data. A diverse set of stakeholders-representing academia, industry, funding agencies, and scholarly publishers-have come together to design and jointly endorse a concise and measureable set of principles that we refer to as the FAIR Data Principles. The intent is that these may act as a guideline for those wishing to enhance the reusability of their data holdings. Distinct from peer initiatives that focus on the human scholar, the FAIR Principles put specific emphasis on enhancing the ability of machines to automatically find and use the data, in addition to supporting its reuse by individuals. Abstract

Udgivelsesdato: 2010-Dec, The third Human Variome Project (HVP) Meeting "Integration and Implementation" was held under UNESCO Patronage in Paris, France, at the UNESCO Headquarters May 10-14, 2010. The major aims of the HVP are the collection, curation, and distribution of all human genetic variation affecting health. The HVP has drawn together disparate groups, by country, gene of interest, and expertise, who are working for the common good with the shared goal of pushing the boundaries of the human variome and collaborating to avoid unnecessary duplication. The meeting addressed the 12 key areas that form the current framework of HVP activities: Ethics; Nomenclature and Standards; Publication, Credit and Incentives; Data Collection from Clinics; Overall Data Integration and Access-Peripheral Systems/Software; Data Collection from Laboratories; Assessment of Pathogenicity; Country Specific Collection; Translation to Healthcare and Personalized Medicine; Data Transfer, Databasing, and Curation; Overall Data Integration and Access-Central Systems; and Funding Mechanisms and Sustainability. In addition, three societies that support the goals and the mission of HVP also held their own Workshops with the view to advance disease-specific variation data collection and utilization: the International Society for Gastrointestinal Hereditary Tumours, the Micronutrient Genomics Project, and the Neurogenetics Consortium.

The article provides information about the research on motheaten mouse in the U.S. Motheaten mouse was first discovered by Leonard Shultz at the Jackson laboratories. It was initially of interest for its immune deficiency and autoimmune phenotypes and its name reflects a motheaten appearance due to hair loss. It was used to clarify the role of signal transduction pathways in hemotopoietic cells although these mice have later proven useful for studying the physiological roles of signal transduction.

Abstract

The article presents news briefs related to some recent developments in genetics. The U.S. National Human Genome Research Institute announced on August 8, 2005 the recipients of Revolutionary Genome Sequencing Technologies grants, totaling more than 32 million dollar, with the aim of reducing the cost of DNA sequencing of a mammalian genome to less than 1,000 dollar. It also reports that the incidence of chronic kidney disease is rising globally, largely because of type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension. Kidney disease is becoming more common worldwide in indigenous populations exposed to a constellation of new environmental factors and disproportionately affects minorities in rich countries.

Abstract

The article presents information on new researches in genetics. Researcher Yang Shi and colleagues reported the first evidence for a histone demethylase enzyme lysine-specific demethylase 1, demethylates methylated histone lysine residues by an oxidation reaction and generates unmodified lysine and formaldehyde. LSD1 is similar in sequence to metabolic amine oxidases but localizes to the nucleus and associates with repressive chromatin complexes. Also the population-specific gene dose of CCL3L1, encoding a chemokine that is a ligand for the major coreceptor for HIV virus CCR5, is correlated with an individual's susceptibility to infection as well as progression to disease.

The U.S. National Science Foundation recently awarded S2 million to fund the Arabidopsis 2010 project, which aims to assemble the regulatory networks controlling development of Arabidopsis thaliana. This project brings together the strengths of four Arabidopsis research groups. Allerca, a California-based biotechnology company, has announced plans to market a breed of hypoallergenic cats, the first in a line of so called "transgenic lifestyle pets." They plan to use short interfering RNA technology to knock down expression of Fel d1, the most common protein allergen found in cat saliva and skin.

The article presents information on various scientific research conducted. Researchers report that hereditary early-onset Parkinson disease in three consanguineous Spanish and Italian families was linked to mutations in the protein kinase domain of the gene PINK1. This PTEN-induced protein kinase has a mitochondrial targeting motif and was localized to the mitochondria. The wild-type protein, but not the mutant, protected transfected cells against the decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential and against apoptosis induced by treatment with the proteasome inhibitor MG-132.
