ISBN: 978-0-470-34495-8; International audience; This study deals with numerical simulations of the impact and flattening of Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) particles plasma sprayed onto smooth and rough substrates. On smooth substrates, predictions showed the effect of the thermal diffusivity of the substrate as well as the thermal contact resistance between splat and substrate on particle flattening and solidification. When solidification starts before flattening is completed, the contact between the flowing liquid and substrate in the periphery of the lamella becomes very poor and slows down the solidification process. On rough substrates, simulated by adding square columns on the smooth substrate surface, the distance between columns is a key parameter affecting the geometry of the lamella resulting from the droplet impact and, its solidification.

Un prototype de réfrigérateur à haute inertie thermique utilisant un matériau à changement de phase a été réalisé. Des essais ont été effectués pour plusieurs charges thermiques à différentes températures ambiantes. Les données montrent une nette réduction des fluctuations de température dans l'enceinte réfrigérée et une amélioration du comportement du système en termes d'autonomie et d'efficacité énergétique. L'impact de l'inertie thermique sur le système frigorifique est présenté à partir de ses paramètres de fonctionnement (température d'évaporation et de condensation, consommation du compresseur, autonomie, temps de fonctionnement).

Un prototype de réfrigérateur avec PCM a été conçu et testé pour différentes charges thermiques. Les résultats obtenus avec PCM montrent clairement l'intérêt de l'intégration d'un tel élément dans un réfrigérateur domestique. L'autonomie du réfrigérateur peut atteindre plus de 8h avec une température ambiante de 20°C. Le coefficient de performance est en moyenne plus élevé de 20 à 25%, lorsque les conditions de fonctionnement sont telles que le matériau congèle puis fond intégralement.

National audience; This article presents a project carried out jointly by the Cemagref and the Laboratory FAST, with the financial support of the French Agency for the Environment and Energy Management (ADEME) and the French National Research Agency (ANR).The project aims to evaluate the energy impact due to the addition of a phase change material to the household refrigerator. A mathematical model is developed to simulate the impact of a phase change material on the behavior of a roll bond evaporator. The phase change is described by a model of pure conduction with a technique of immobilization of the interface. The model of the evaporator is based on a local description of the state of the refrigerant. The result of the coupling of the two dynamic models is presented.; Un modèle mathématique a été développé pour simuler l'impact d'un matériau à changement de phase sur le comportement dynamique d'un évaporateur de type roll bond fonctionnant en tout ou rien. Le changement de phase dans le matériau est décrit par un modèle de conduction pure avec une technique d'immobilisation de l'interface. Le modèle de l'évaporateur est basé sur une description locale de l'état du frigorigène. Le résultat du couplage des deux modèles dynamiques est présenté.

The majority of European refrigerators are static and show important temperature fluctuations of the refrigerated cell due to low thermal inertia. Adding a slab of phase change material to an existing evaporator allows to improve the global efficiency of the refrigerator, with a significant increase of the thermal inertia of the system. In this paper, a dynamic model of a household refrigerator including a phase change material is presented. The numerical results show that the addition of the phase change material results in an enhanced heat transfer from the evaporator by conduction to the PCM and a higher evaporating temperature which increases the energy efficiency of the system. The stored energy is delivered to the refrigerator cell during the off cycle and permits several hours of continuous operation without electrical supply.; La majorité des réfrigérateurs européens présentent des fluctuations importantes de la température intérieure due à une faible inertie thermique. En ajoutant un matériau à changement de phase appliqué sur l'évaporateur, il est possible d'améliorer l'efficacité globale du réfrigérateur, avec une augmentation significative de l'inertie thermique du système. Dans cet article, un modèle dynamique d'un réfrigérateur de ménage comprenant un matériau à changement de phase est présenté. Les résultats numériques montrent que l'ajout du matériau améliorent les transferts thermiques avec l'évaporateur par conduction avec le PCM et provoque une remontée de la température d'évaporation , a méliorant l'efficacité énergétique du système. L'énergie stockée est restituée pendant l'arrêt et permet un fonctionnement de plusieurs heures sans alimentation électrique.

When heat transfer between an evaporator and the refrigerated area is unusually low (a typical example is by natural convection) and the vapor compression system is on/off regulated, adding a planar PCM to an existing evaporator allows to improve the global efficiency. In this paper, the case of a household refrigerator is simulated as an example. Compared to the classical vapor compression system, the new design shows a significant increase of the coefficient of performance, but also a limitation of the maximum refrigerating capacity transmitted to the refrigerated area. Other benefits and limits of this technology are discussed.
