The learning environment should support students' interest, desire and attitude towards learning. Qualified learning environments will positively affect students' learning situations. For this reason, teachers should use effective learning/teaching approaches in their lessons in order to enrich learning environments. Especially in the social studies course, where the concepts and knowledge of many disciplines are taught with an interdisciplinary approach, teachers should use effective learning/teaching approaches skillfully. One of the approaches that will increase the level of learning in social studies course is multiple representations. The use of multiple representations is an approach that improves students' mental characteristics and is effective in teaching abstract concepts. The aim of this research is to test the effectiveness of teaching practices supported by multiple representation in the social studies course, which includes many abstract concepts. In this study, a quasi-experimental model with pretest-posttest control group was used. In the research, the effect of teaching using multiple representation in social studies teaching on students' academic achievement and attitudes towards social studies lesson was observed. The sample of the research consists of 40 students studying in the 4th grade of primary school. In order to collect data in the research; "The Place We Live In Achievement Test" developed by the researcher and the "Attitude Scale Towards Social Studies Lesson" developed by Arslan and Şahiner (2010) were used. Before the study, the achievement test and the attitude scale were applied to the experimental and control groups as a pre-test. In the five-week period, the control group, with program-based teaching methods; In the experimental group, the lesson was taught with activities prepared with multiple representations. At the end of the process, a post-test was given to the experimental and control groups. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the use of multiple representations positively affected the academic success of the students and their attitudes towards the social studies course. Spatial thinking skills are competencies individuals will need in their lives in order to know and understand the world and to perceive the space correctly. In order for individuals to have these competencies, effective traning in the development of spatial thinking skills should occur. Spatial thinking skills can be acquired through student-centered, active learning and orienteering activities, all of which can be applied in lessons as a type of game instead of through traditional teaching methods and techniques. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effect of spatial thinking skills on the orienteering practices of students' in primary school Grade 4 Social Studies course. The study group consists of a total of 104 students: 51 students are in the experimental group and 53 students are in the control group. All participants are in Grade 4 at a primary school in Merkez district of Kastamonu province in Turkey during the 2019-2020 academic year. Lessons were taught with activities based on orienteering practices in the experimental group, and curriculum-based instruction was conducted in the control group. In the research, one of the quantitative research methods was used as a quasi-experimental model with a pretest-posttest control group. The Spatial Thinking Skill Test (STSS) developed by the researcher was used as the data collection tool. As a result of the research, it was concluded that orienteering practices are effective in developing students' spatial thinking skills. Orienteering is recommended to be used as a teaching technique in Social Studies lessons because it is an entertaining activity that enables learning by doing, the development of multi-faceted thinking, and the transference of spatial thinking skills to daily life.

The main purpose of this study is to analyze news stories regarding children in the national print media in the last five years using top eight newspapers in terms of circulation and evaluate these news stories based on the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was issued by the UN and signed by Turkey. The research was undertaken as a case study. The study data were collected from top eight newspapers in terms of circulation between 2010 and 2014 in order to reveal when and how newspapers at national level represent children and the scientific content of impressions in the national media. Results show that children appear in the national media in mostly negative cases. Büyük çevre felaketlerini önlemek ve oluşan çevre sorunlarına çözüm bulmak, içinde yaşadığımız yüzyılın önemli gündem maddelerinden birisi olmuştur. Ancak 20. Yüzyılın ikinci yarısından itibaren küresel boyutlara ulaşan çevre sorunları ile mücadelede pek de başarılı olunduğu söylenemez. Çevre sorunlarının çözümüne bu sorunlara neden olan insanoğlunun davranışlarını değiştirmekle başlanabilir. Bunun en etkili yolu ise eğitimdir. Eğitim makbul vatandaş yetiştirmenin önemli bir aracıdır. Günümüzde makbul vatandaş aynı zamanda ekolojik vatandaştır. Ekolojik vatandaş kendi haklarını koruduğu gibi doğanın da haklarını koruyan vatandaştır. Bunun için sorumluluk alır. İçinde yaşadığımız dünyayı korumak ve geleceğe taşımak için aktif rol oynar ve adalet duygusuyla hareket eder. Bu yeni vatandaşlık anlayışının bireylere kazandırılmasında öğretmenler önemli bir rol oynamaktadır. Dolayısıyla Eğitim Fakültelerinde öğrenim gören öğretmen adaylarının ekolojik vatandaşlık düzeyleri öğretmen olduklarında çocukların ekolojik vatandaş olmalarında etkili olacaktır. Bu araştırmanın amacı da farklı branşlarda öğrenim gören öğretmen adaylarının ekolojik vatandaşlık düzeylerini tespit etmek ve bir karşılaştırmasını yapmaktır. Bu amacı gerçekleştirmek için sınıf öğretmenliği, sosyal bilgiler öğretmenliği, fen bilgisi öğretmenliği ve okul öncesi öğretmenliği branşlarında öğrenim gören toplam 528 öğretmen adayına Karatekin ve Uysal (2018) tarafından geliştirilen Ekolojik Vatandaşlık Ölçeği (EVÖ) uygulanmıştır. Betimsel tarama modeli kullanılarak yapılan bu araştırmanın sonucunda öğretmen adaylarının orta düzeyde ekolojik vatandaş oldukları görülmüştür. Öğretmen adaylarının ekolojik vatandaşlık düzeyleri üzerinde öğrenim gördükleri öğretmenlik branşının bir etkisinin olmadığı görülmüştür. Sorumluluk boyutunda sınıf öğretmenliği branşında öğrenim gören öğretmen adaylarının aldıkları toplam puanlar; sosyal bilgiler ve okulöncesi öğretmenliği branşlarında öğrenim gören öğretmen adaylarının aldıkları toplam puanlara göre anlamlı bir farklılık göstermiştir. Araştırmaya katılan öğretmen adaylarının en düşük puan aldıkları boyut katılım, en yüksek puan aldıkları boyut ise hak ve adalet boyutudur., Preventing major environmental disasters and finding solutions to environmental problems have become one of the important issues of the century we live in. However, from the second half of the 20th century, it cannot be said that the environmental problems that have reached global dimensions have been dealt with successfully. Environmental problems can be resolved by changing the behavior of the individuals that causes these problems. This can be achieved through education. Education is an important means of raising a good citizen. Nowadays, a good citizen is also an ecological citizen. Ecological citizen protects both his/her rights as well as the rights of the nature. To accomplish this, he/she takes responsibilities. It plays an active role in protecting and sustaining the world we live in, and acts with a sense of justice. Teachers play an important role in helping the citizens acquire this new understanding. Especially pre-school teachers, primary school teachers, social studies teachers and science teachers are influential on children to become ecological citizens. Therefore, the ecological citizenship level of the teacher candidates will be effective for the children to be ecological citizens, when the candidates start profession. The purpose of this research is to identify and compare ecological citizenship levels of prospective teachers studying at different departments. In order to realize this aim, the Ecological Citizenship Scale (EVO) developed by Karatekin and Uysal (2017) was applied to a total of 528 teacher candidates trained in classroom teacher, social studies teacher, science teacher and preschool teacher departments. In the study, descriptive survey model was used. As a result of this research, it was seen that the teacher candidates were moderate ecological citizens. It has been seen that there is no significant correlation between the department and ecological citizenship levels. There was a significant difference in the dimension of responsibility in favor of primary education teacher candidates when compared to social studies education, preschool education teacher candidates. Among the dimensions of ecological citizenship, the teacher candidates had the lowest average score in the participation dimension, had the highest average score in the dimension of right and justice.

Increasing diversity within European countries has led the policy makers and the public to question the place of immigrants in society. Classrooms are becoming multicultural growingly as the migrants increase and mobility among countries becomes easier. Moreover, the number of diversities and cultural differences brought by the refugee students have raised. To this end, in this study, we aim to reveal and compare the multicultural attitudes of university students studying in different countries. A total of 356 university students from Turkey, Austria and Hungary participated in the study. In order to collect data, The Munroe Multicultural Attitude Scale Questionnaire (MASQUE) was used. The results revealed that there is a significant difference among the countries in terms of multicultural attitude, gender and political views of the participants. According to the findings, while Austria has the highest score in terms of multicultural attitude, Hungary has the lowest score. In addition, Austrian university students have the highest total score of multicultural attitude and know sub-dimension while Turkish university students have the highest scores of care and act sub-dimensions. Furthermore, it can be said that living/studying in an EU member country does not necessarily mean that university students have a high level of multicultural attitude.

It is aimed at the evaluation of the environment knowledge of teacher candidates of social studies from different variants in this survey. For this purpose, it is applied to 1587 teacher candidates of Social Studies Departments in Faculties of Education at 6 universities in different regions of Turkey. At the end of this survey, it is realized that these teacher candidates have average level of the environment knowledge. This research show that their level of the environment knowledge doesn’t change to their gender, environmental education courses and educational background of their parents so much, however; it changes to their interest in environment and the frequency of their existence in natural areas. As a consequence of this survey, it is expected that the courses on the environment knowledge at universities attaching students’ interest and being suitable for application in natural areas will strengthen their environment knowledge level.

The purpose of this study is to determine the social studies pre-service teachers’ awareness of solid waste and recycling. A form, including 7 open-ended questions, was prepared by the researcher for this purpose in order to present pre-service teachers’ awareness of solid waste and recycling. The research was conducted within qualitative perspective as a special case study. Data for the study were collected from 165 pre-service teachers who attend classes in 1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd , and 4 th year at Social Studies Department, College of Education, Kastamonu University. The research concluded that social studies pre-service teachers have low levels of knowledge and awareness of solid waste and recycling.

The purpose of this study is to define elementary students’ perception of environmental problems via mind mapping technique. For this purpose, 88 students of 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades at an elementary school in Ankara were asked to draw their own mind maps related to environmental problems. Mind maps drawn were qualitatively analyzed through document review. Results showed that elementary students were most concerned about environmental issues such as air pollution, water pollution, problem of waste, and global warming. Due to environmental problems, students mostly had feelings of grief, fear, and displeasure. The study showed that students’ level of trust in solutions to environmental problems was low.

The most significant indicator that a society is democratic is thatall individuals constituting this society have equal rights and enjoythem efficiently. However, in our country that is progressing slowly onthe road to democracy, the citizens with disabilities benefit from rightsto education, health, and labor less efficiently than the citizens withoutdisabilities do. Social awareness and political responsibility are requiredin order for the persons with disabilities to enjoy these rights efficiently.Thus, visual media, with the power to inform, raise awareness, andcreate public opinion, takes on a significant task and responsibility. Thecurrent research aims to reveal the extent to which national televisionchannels achieve this task and fulfill this responsibility. In addition, thestatus of rights stated, in details, by the “UN Convention on the Rightsof Persons with Disabilities” included by the national televisionchannels is among the aims of the current research. Data for thecurrent study conducted with descriptive survey model were obtainedfrom the media follow-up center. Descriptive analysis was used toanalyze the content on persons with disabilities and rights of personswith disabilities broadcasted by 48 national television channels in 2012.Results of the analyses showed that the number, duration, and types ofbroadcasts about persons with disabilities and rights of persons withdisabilities on national television channels were not adequate; “workand right to employment” were mostly emphasized; broadcasting onpersons with disabilities was mostly on during “World Week of Personswith Disabilities” in May and during “World Day of Persons withDisabilities” in December; and the news about rights of persons withdisabilities was mostly broadcasted in February, May, December, July,and April. The current study concluded that the level of visibility ofpersons with disabilities on visual media was low and the visual mediadid not adequately include rights of persons with disabilities. Demokratik bir toplumun en önemli göstergesi o toplumu oluşturan tüm bireylerin eşit haklara sahip olması ve bu haklardan etkin bir biçimde yararlanmasıdır. Ancak demokratik bir toplum olma yolunda ağır adımlarla ilerleyen ülkemizde engelli vatandaşlar eğitim, sağlık, çalışma vb. haklardan engelli olmayan diğer vatandaşlara göre etkin bir biçimde yararlanamamaktadır. Engelli vatandaşlarımızın bu haklardan etkin bir biçimde yararlanabilmeleri için toplumsal bir duyarlılığa ve siyasi sorumluluğa ihtiyaç vardır. Bu noktada bilgilendirme, farkındalık ve kamuoyu oluşturma gücü olan görsel medyanın çok önemli bir görevi ve sorumluluğu vardır. Bu araştırma ulusal televizyon kanallarının bu görev ve sorumluluğu ne kadar yerine getirdiklerini ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Ayrıca ulusal televizyon kanallarında, engelli haklarının ayrıntılı bir biçimde ele alındığı Birleşmiş Milletler tarafından hazırlanmış olan "Engellilerin Haklarına Dair Sözleşme"'de yer alan engelli haklarına yer verilme durumu da bu araştırmanın amaçları arasındadır. Betimsel tarama modelinde yürütülen araştırmanın veri kaynağı medya takip merkezinden temin edilmiştir. 48 ulusal televizyon kanalının 2012 yılı içinde yaptığı engelliler ve engelli hakları ile ilgili yayınların analizinde betimsel analiz kullanılmıştır. Analiz sonuçlarına göre ulusal televizyon kanallarında engelliler ve engelli hakları ile ilgili yapılan yayınların sayısı, süresi ve çeşidi açısından yetersiz olduğu; yapılan yayınlar içerisinde en fazla “çalışma ve istihdam hakkı” ile ilgili yayınların olduğu; engelliler ile ilgili yayınların daha çok “Dünya Engelliler Haftası” nın içinde olduğu Mayıs ayında ve “Dünya Engelliler Günü” nün içinde olduğu Aralık ayında yapıldığı; engelli hakları ile ilgili haberlerin ise daha çok sırasıyla Şubat, Mayıs, Aralık, Temmuz ve Nisan aylarında yapıldığı tespit edilmiştir. Bu araştırmada engellilerin görsel medyadaki görünürlülüğünün düşük olduğu ve görsel medyada engelli haklarına yeterince yer verilmediğisonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

Human rights education is the type of education that should be provided to individuals beginning from very young ages since, with such early human rights education, attitudes and behaviors of individuals toward human rights will be permanent. Social studies classes are the ones that include human rights education in the first place on elementary school level. Social studies class is aimed to raise students as participatory and active citizens who have adopted the democratic values and the respect for human rights. Therefore, pre-service social studies teachers to teach this class in future should have positive attitudes towards human rights education. The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitudes of social studies candidate teachers toward human rights education on different variables. This study is a descriptive research with survey model. “The Human Rights Education Attitude Scale” developed by Karaman-Kepenekçi (1999) was applied to 866 pre-service social studies teachers -1st to 4th years studying at Faculty of Education in six different universities throughout Turkey during 2010-2011 academic year. This study showed that female pre-service teachers had more favorable attitudes towards human rights education than male pre-service teachers; those pre-service teachers who willingly and lovingly picked teaching as their profession approached human rights education more favorably than those who did not; and those pre-service teachers who discuss human rights-related topics with their friends, family, and faculty members had more positive attitudes towards human rights education than those who do not. In addition, pre-service social studies teachers have been found to maintain high levels of attitudes towards human rights education. İnsan hakları eğitimi çok küçük yaştan itibaren bireylere verilmesi gereken bir eğitimdir. Çünkü bu yaşlarda verilecek insan hakları eğitimiyle bireylerin insan haklarına yönelik tutum ve davranışlarının kalıcı olması sağlanacaktı. İlköğretim düzeyinde insan hakları eğitimine yer veren derslerin başında sosyal bilgiler dersi gelmektedir. Sosyal bilgiler dersi, öğrencilerin demokratik değerleri benimsemiş, insan haklarına saygılı, katılımcı ve etkin vatandaşlar olarak yetişmesini amaçlamaktadır. Bu nedenle bu dersi gelecekte verecek olan sosyal bilgiler öğretmen adaylarının insan hakları eğitimine yönelik olumlu tutumlara sahip olması gerekmektedir. Bu çalışma sosyal bilgiler öğretmen adaylarının insan hakları eğitimine yönelik tutumlarını farklı değişkenler açısından belirlemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Tarama modelinde yürütülmüş araştırmada Karaman-Kepenekçi (1999) tarafından geliştirilen “İnsan Hakları Eğitimi Tutum Ölçeği”, kullanılmıştır. Bu ölçek 2011-2012 eğitim öğretim yılında 6 farklı üniversitenin eğitim fakültelerinin sosyal bilgiler öğretmenliği bölümünün 1., 2., 3. ve 4. sınıflarında öğrenim gören 866 öğretmen adayına uygulanmıştır. Uygulama sonucunda bayan öğretmen adaylarının erkek öğretmen adaylarına; branşını isteyerek ve severek seçen öğretmen adaylarının branşını isteyerek ve severek seçmeyen öğretmen adaylarına ve insan hakları ile ilgili konuları arkadaşları, aile bireyleri ve öğretim elemanları ile çok sık tartışan öğretmen adaylarının hiçbir zaman tartışmayan öğretmen adaylarına göre insan hakları eğitimine yönelik tutumlarının daha olumlu olduğu görülmüştür. Sosyal bilgiler öğretmen adaylarının insan hakları eğitimine yönelik tutumlarının ise yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

People need to have some social skills to maintain their existence in social life efficiently. One of those social skills is communication skill. With the skill training given at early ages, we can provide our students to be happier, more productive and efficient in the society they live in making them become skillful. For this reason, to know the factors that can be efficient upon our students’ communication skills have become more of an issue. The purpose of this study is to reveal the factors that are efficient upon elementary school students’ communication skills. In accordance with this purpose, Communication Skills Inventory developed by Ersanli and Balci (1998) was performed to 373 students studying at 6th, 7th and 8th class of two elementary schools in Ankara and Kirsehir provinces. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 15 statistical software. Analysis of the data, descriptive statistics, t-test for unrelated samples one-way analsis of variance (ANOVA)was used. AAt the end of the study, it has been conferred that the city where students live in, gender, pre-school education, parents’ educational background and class level are all efficient upon elementary school students’ communication skills. Moreover, whereas students’ communication skills upgrade as the mark they took from Turkish lesson, the number of books they read, daily reading time increases, their communication skills downgrade as their daily television watching and using computer period increases. For such purposes; teachers should create learning environments where students can express themselves better in lessons., encourage students to read more books , children's pre-school education should start as early as it may possible and it is proposed to the families not to allow children spending much time on TV and computer. İnsan sosyal hayat içinde varlığını etkili bir şekilde devam ettirebilmesi için bir takım sosyal becerilere sahip olması gerekmektedir. Bu sosyal becerilerden birisi de iletişim becerisidir. Daha küçük yaşlardan itibaren verilecek beceri eğitimi ile öğrencilerimize iletişim becerileri kazandırarak içinde yaşadığı toplumda mutlu, üretken ve etkili bir insan olmasını sağlayabiliriz. Bunun için öğrencilerimizin iletişim becerileri üzerinde etkili olabilecek faktörlerin bilinmesi önem arz etmektedir. Bu araştırmanın amacı da ilköğretim öğrencilerinin iletişim becerileri üzerinde etkili olan faktörleri ortaya koymaktır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda Ersanlı ve Balcı (1998) tarafından geliştirilen “İletişim Becerileri Envanteri" Ankara ve Kırşehir'de bulunan iki ilköğretim okulunun 6., 7. ve 8. sınıflarında öğrenim gören 373 öğrenciye uygulanmıştır. Verilerin analizi SPSS 15 istatistik programı kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde; betimsel istatistik, ilişkisiz örneklemler için t-testi, tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda ilköğretim öğrencilerinin iletişim becerileri üzerinde öğrencilerin yaşadıkları ilin, cinsiyetin, okul öncesi eğitimin, anne-baba eğitim durumunun ve sınıf düzeyinin etkili olduğu görülmüştür. Ayrıca öğrencilerin, Türkçe dersinden aldıkları not, okudukları kitap sayısı, günlük kitap okuma süreleri arttıkça iletişim becerileri artarken günlük televizyon izleme ve bilgisayar kullanma süreleri arttıkça iletişim becerileri azalmaktadır. Bu sonuçlar doğrultusunda öğretmenlerin derslerdeöğrencilerin kendilerini daha iyi ifade edebilecekleri ortamları oluşturmaları, öğrencilerin daha fazla kitap okuması için teşvik edilmesi, çocukların okul öncesi eğitime mümkün olduğunca erken başlatılması ve ebeveynlerin çocuklarının TV ve bilgisayar başında çok fazla zaman geçirmelerine izin verilmemeleri önerilmiştir.

The purpose of study is to determine the level of a allocation of environmental literacy issues in social studies textbooks in elementary school 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th grade Social Studies (SS) textbooks that are published and distributed to schools by the Ministry of National Education in the 2010-2011 educational year in Turkey. For this aim, four social studies textbooks were examined. These textbooks are analyzed in terms of their level of “the environmental literacy issues,” in accordance with Roth's subcategories. In the research the analysis unit is determined as “the environmental literacy”. This analysis unit is divided into four sub-categories as “Environmental Knowledge”, “Cognitive Skills”, “Behavior”, and “Affect”. Content analysis method was used to analyses the textbooks. In other words, qualitative research method was preferred and all the themes of textbooks were studied by use of the content analysis method. Frequencies and percentages were used in the analysis of data. In this study, it is found out that social studies textbooks do not equally contain the components of environmental literacy and that the component of environmental knowledge is included much more than the other environmental literacy components.

Bu araştırmanın amacı, sosyal bilgiler öğretmen adaylarının harita okuryazarlık düzeylerini belirlemek ve harita okuryazarlığını oluşturan boyutlar üzerinde çeşitli değişkenlerin etkisini ortaya koymaktır. Araştırma 2015-2016 eğitim-öğretim yılında Eğitim Fakültelerinin Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretmenliği Bölümlerinin 2. ve 3. sınıflarında öğrenim gören 292 öğretmen adayı ile tarama modeli kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Sosyal bilgiler öğretmen adaylarının harita okuryazarlık düzeylerini belirlemek amacıyla Koç ve Demir (2014) tarafından geliştirilen "Developing Validand Reliable Map Literacy Scale" isimli Harita Okuryazarlığı Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre; sosyal bilgiler öğretmen adaylarının harita bilgi düzeylerinin alt seviyeye yakın, haritalarla işlem yapabilme, haritaları okuma ve yorumlama, taslak harita çizebilme ve haritaları kullanma becerilerinin ise orta seviyede olduğu görülmektedir., The aim of the present study is to determine Social Sciences teacher trainees' level of map literacy and reveal the effect of various variables on the dimensions constituting map literacy. The present study was conducted by means of relational screening model with 292 teacher trainees studying at the second and third classes of the Department of Social Sciences Teaching in Faculty of Education in 2015-2016. In order to determine the Social Sciences teacher trainees' level of map literacy, "DevelopingValidand Reliable Map Literacy Scale" developed by KOÇ and DEMİRwas used. According to the data obtained from the present study; it is seen that while map knowledge levels of the Social Sciences Teacher Trainees were close to low level, abilities of processing through maps, reading and interpreting maps, drawing draft maps and utilizing maps were on the average.

At the age of a new kind of everything (a new kind of communication, a new kind of education, a new kind of social problems etc.) citizenship also takes a new kind form: global citizenship. Global concept has been conducted on almost every area including citizenship. Therefore, citizenship has been understood from a global perspective to overcome new global scale problems. EU is a good example of changing citizenship understanding differing from the national base. Poland is a good target country taken its membership since 2004. 12 years duration means that new generation has been raised in the atmosphere of a supra national environment. At this point, what kinds of variables have what kinds of impact on the global citizenship level of this generation is worth being studied. This study has aimed to understand this question using a personal information form in addition to a “global citizenship” scale developed by Morais - Ogden (2010). The study conducted through survey model included 353 Polish university students. It is understood from the results of the study that Polish students have an intermediate level of global citizenship and low level of global civic engagement. It is also one of the findings that some variables have impact on global citizenship levels. In this respect, the study will contribute to the understanding of the global citizenship levels of EU member students. This document gives formatting instructions for authors preparing papers for publication.

The purpose of this study is to reveal the factors that influence Social Studies Pre-service Teachers' participation to the solution of environmental problems. This study utilized semi-structured interviews as a qualitative research method. The sample group of this study consisted of 12 pre-service teachers who attended the department of Social Studies Education of the Faculty of Education at Kastamonu University during 2010-2011 academic-year. As a result of this study, it has been concluded that Social Studies Pre-service Teachers' participation to the solution of environmental problems was too low. This low level of participation might be caused by teachers' low level of attention to the environment, knowledge, sensitivity and awareness, not having the cognitive skills that needed for social participation, insufficient social participation opportunities and needs of prospective teachers and needs of student teachers' referral and lack of incentive on the subject.

Bu çalışmada, aile içi bu demokratik süreç ile ilgili ilköğretim öğrencilerinin görüşlerini tespit etmek amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden biri olan durum çalışması modelindedir. Çalışmada örneklem olarak Doğu Anadolu'dan Van ve Bingöl; Orta Anadolu'dan Ankara ve Kırşehir; Batı Anadolu'dan ise Aydın ve İstanbul illerinde öğrenim gören 6. ve 7. Sınıf öğrencileri seçilmiştir. Veri toplama aracı olarak ise "Aile içi demokrasi görüş formu" kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonunda farklı illerdeki ailelerde farklı demokrasi süreçlerinin yaşandığı tespit edilmiştir., The aim of this study is to investigate elementary school students’ views on this democratic withinfamily process. This study is a case study which is one of the qualitative research methods. For this purpose, Van and Bingol from Eastern Anatolia, Ankara and Kirsehir from Central Anatolia, Aydin and Istanbul from Western Anatolia were selected. As the data collection tool in the study, “views on domestic democracy form” was used. According to results of the research, it has been indicated that every students has different democracy process in their family.

Bu araştırmanın amacı, coğrafya öğretmen adaylarının çevre okuryazarlık düzeylerini belirlemek ve çevre okuryazarlığı ve çevre okuryazarlığını oluşturan bileşenler (bilgi-duyuş-davranış-bilişsel beceri) üzerinde çeşitli değişkenlerin etkisini ortaya koymaktır. Araştırma 2012-2013 eğitim-öğretim yılında Türkiye'deki 5 farklı üniversitenin Coğrafya Öğretmenliği Bölümü'nün 1., 2., 3. ve 4. sınıfında okuyan 352 öğretmen adayı ile tarama modeli kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Coğrafya öğretmen adaylarının çevre okuryazarlık düzeylerini belirlemek amacıyla kişisel bilgi formu, çevreye yönelik duyuşsal eğilimler ölçeği, çevre davranış ölçeği, çevre bilgi testi ve bilişsel beceri testi olmak üzere 5 bölümden oluşan "Çevre Okuryazarlığı Anketi" kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizi SPSS istatistik programı kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde; betimsel istatistik, ilişkisiz örneklemler için t-testi, tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) ve basit korelasyon kullanılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre coğrafya öğretmen adaylarının çevre bilgileri ve çevre davranışları orta düzeyde; duyuşsal eğilimleri yüksek düzeyde, bilişsel becerileri ise düşük düzeyde bulunmuştur. Öğretmen adaylarının çevre okuryazarlığını oluşturan bu dört ayrı bileşenden aldıkları toplam puanların ortalamasına bakıldığında ise çevre okuryazarlık düzeylerinin orta seviyede olduğu görülmektedir. Çevre okuryazarlığını oluşturan bileşenler arasındaki ilişkiye bakıldığında bilgi ile duyuş arasında pozitif yönde düşük düzeyde bir ilişki, duyuş ile davranış arasında pozitif yönde orta düzeyde bir ilişki, bilgi ile beceri arasında pozitif yönde düşük bir ilişki bulunmuştur. Bilgi ile davranış ve beceri ile davranış arasında ise anlamlı bir ilişki bulunamamıştır. Çeşitli değişkenlerin (cinsiyet, sınıf düzeyi, çevre eğitimi dersi alma durumu, sivil toplum kuruluşlarına üye olma durumu, doğal alanlarda bulunma sıklığı, çevresel aktivitelere katılma sıklığı, çevreye karşı merak düzeyi, ailede çevre duyarlılığı yüksek bireye bulunma durumu) coğrafya öğretmenlerinin çevre okuryazarlığına etkisi incelendiğinde; sınıf ve cinsiyet değişkenlerinin coğrafya öğretmen adaylarının çevre okuryazarlık düzeylerine etki etmediği; buna karşılık çevre eğitimi dersi alma durumu, sivil toplum kuruluşlarına üye olma durumu, çevresel aktivitelere katılma sıklığı, merak düzeyi ve ailede çevre duyarlılığı yüksek birey bulunma durumu değişkenlerinin coğrafya öğretmenlerinin çevre okuryazarlık düzeyleri üzerinde etkili olduğu tespit edilmiştir., The purpose of the present study is to explore environmental literacy levels of geography teacher trainees and to investigate the impact of various variables on environmental literacy and its components (knowledge - affect - behaviour - cognitive skills). The study was carried out using survey method on 352 freshman, sophomore, junior and senior geography teacher trainees studying at the geography education departments of 5 different universities in Turkey during 20122013 academic year. "Environmental literacy survey" was used to explore their environmental literacy levels. This scale was composed of personal information form, scale for affective tendencies towards the environment, environmental behaviour scale, environmental knowledge scale and cognitive skills test. The data were analyzed using SPSS. To analyze the data, descriptive statistics, independent sample t test, oneway ANOVA and simple correlation were used. According to the findings of the study, the teacher trainees had moderate levels of environmental knowledge and behaviours; they had high levels of affective tendencies, yet their cognitive skills were low. When the mean scores obtained from these four components that make up environmental literacy are examined, it is seen that the teacher trainees had moderate levels of environmental literacy. In addition, an examination of the correlation between the components that form environmental literacy revealed that was a weak positive correlation between knowledge and affect; there was a moderate positive correlation between affect and behaviour, and there was a weak positive correlation between knowledge and skills. However, there was not a meaningful correlation between not only knowledge and behaviour but also between skills and behaviours. This study examined the impact of a number of variables (gender, grade, having taken environmental education courses, being a member of non-governmental organizations, how often the participants visit natural areas, how often they take part in environmental activities, the level of curiosity about the environment and the existence of family members with high levels of environmental sensitivity) on geography teacher trainees' environmental literacy. As a result of this examination, it was found that gender, grade and having taken environmental education courses had no impact on the level of environmental literacy in geography teacher trainees. However, it was also found that the variable of gender had an impact on only affective tendency dimension of environmental literacy, and the variable of having taken environmental courses had an impact on knowledge and cognitive skills dimensions. On the other hand, being a member of non-governmental organizations, the frequency of taking part in environmental activities, the level of curiosity and the existence of family members with high levels of environmental sensitivity played a significant role on geography teacher trainees' environmental literacy levels.

The intervention of human being to the nature exceeded the capacity of tolerance. Especially with the industrialization and the inrease in population, environmental problems reached global dimension and caused the disgussion and arguement of these problems in an international dimension since the second part of the 20th century. As a result of these arguments, it emerged that to have a sustainable environment people must have responsible behaviours towards the environment and the education must teach these responsible behaviours to the individuals. Therefore; the environmental education should educate people to have strong belief in restoration of the contaminated and destroyed World. The people with strong belief in coming against with the environmental problems which affect them; have a locus of; but the people having a weaker belief have an external locus of control. The aim of this research is to reveal whether the effect of the locus of control the primary students have or not; has an effect on their responsible behaviours towards the environment. In this research descriptive survey model was used. In order to determine the locus of control the students have or not; “Locus of Control scale”developed by Nowicki & Strickland (1973) and adapted to Turkish by Korkut (1986) was used; in order to identify responsible behaviours towards the environment “Responsible behaviours towards environment scale” developed by Erdogan (2009) was used. The study group of the research consisted 495 students at 4th and 5th grades. As a result of this survey it is revealed that the locus of control has an affect on the responsible behaviours towards environment and it is found that the locus of control significantly predicts these behaviours. We think that the results of this research will contribute to the teachers who practice the environmental education in primary schools and to the specialists who prepare the curriculum and the textbooks. Özetİnsanoğlunun doğaya müdahalesi artık onun taşıma kapasitesinin çok üzerine çıkmıştır. Özellikle sanayileşme ve nüfusun artması ile birlikte çevre sorunlarının küresel boyutlara ulaşması, 20.yüzyılın ikinci yarısından itibaren bu sorunların uluslararası düzeyde konuşulmaya ve tartışılmaya başlanmasına sebep olmuştur. Bu tartışmaların sonucunda sürdürülebilir bir çevre için insanların çevreye yönelik sorumlu davranışlara sahip olması ve çevre eğitiminin de bireylere bu sorumlu davranışları kazandırması gerektiği ortaya çıkmıştır. Bunun için çevre eğitiminin, bozulan ve kirlenen dünyamızın tekrar eski haline gelebileceğine olan inancı yüksek bireyler yetiştirmesi gerekmektedir. Kendilerini etkileyen çevre sorunlarına karşı bir şeyler yapabileceğine olan inancı yüksek olan bireylerin daha çok iç kontrol odağına sahip oldukları; inancı zayıf olanların ise dış kontrol odağına sahip oldukları düşünülmektedir. Bu araştırmanın amacı da ilkokulda öğrenim gören öğrencilerin sahip oldukları kontrol odaklarının onların çevreye yönelik sorumlu davranışları üzerinde bir etkisinin olup olmadığını ortaya çıkarmaktır. Araştırmada betimsel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Öğrencilerin kontrol odaklarını tespit edebilmek için Nowicki&Strickland (1973) tarafından geliştirilen ve Korkut (1986) tarafından Türkçe ’ye uyarlanan “Denetim Odağı” ölçeği; çevreye yönelik sorumlu davranışlarını tespit edebilmek için de Erdoğan (2009) tarafından geliştirilen “Çevreye Yönelik Sorumlu Davranış” ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 4. ve 5. sınıfta öğrenim gören 495 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın sonucunda kontrol odağının çevreye yönelik sorumlu davranışlar üzerinde bir etkisi olduğu ve çevreye yönelik sorumlu davranışları anlamlı bir şekilde yordadığı tespit edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarının ilkokulda çevre eğitiminin uygulayıcıları olan öğretmenlere, öğretim programlarını ve ders kitaplarını hazırlayan uzmanlara katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.

Energy is the vital essence of every biotic and abiotic process. Energy is also in central position in human civilization. The famous energy centrals are the major way for production of energy with many diverse effects on environment. Therefore the mitigation of these effects is extremely important and one of its way is education in this controversial issue. The aim of this study is to investigate the cognitive structure of these candidate teachers with various branches towards energy centrals or power plants in the road of the solution of the environmental problem. They were asked to fill the word association test containing four major concepts, nuclear, hydroelectric, thermal and wind centrals. In sum, the nuclear central and wind central are found to be the most and the least dangerous ones sequentially in cognitive structure.

Sosyal bilgiler dersi değer öğretiminde önemli bir misyona sahiptir. Bu ders kapsamında öğrencilere kazandırılması gereken 20 temel değer belirlenmiştir. Sorumluluk, saygı, hoşgörü, aile birliğine önem verme, kültürel mirasa duyarlılık bu değerlerden bazılarıdır. Bireyler için ise bu değerlerin bazıları daha önemli olabilmektedir. Bu düşünceden hareketle bu araştırmada öğrenci, sosyal bilgiler öğretmeni ve öğretmen adaylarının değer hiyerarşisi belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu amaçla çalışma grubundan Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretim Programı’nda yer alan değerleri kendilerince önem derecesine göre (ilk 3 değer) sıralamaları ve gerekçelerini ifade etmeleri istenmiştir. Araştırmanın amacı doğrultusunda nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden durum çalışması (casestudy) kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada veri toplamak amacıyla yarı-yapılandırılmış mülakat tekniği kullanılmış mülakatlar doküman incelemesi yoluyla kod ve temalar belirlenerek analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma Ankara, Kastamonu ve Trabzon illerinde yürütülmüştür. Araştırmaya bu illerde görev yapan sosyal bilgiler öğretmenleri, alt-orta ve üst gelir düzeyine sahip ortaokul 6. 7. ve 8. sınıfa devam eden öğrenciler ve son sınıfa devam eden sosyal bilgiler öğretmen adayları dahil edilmiştir. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre tüm katılımcıların değer sıralamasında ilk üç arasında yer alan değerleri sırasıyla saygı, dürüstlük ve vatanseverliktir. Her üç grupta öne çıkan ortak değerin dürüstlük olduğu, öğrenci ve öğretmen adaylarının tercihlerinin birbirine daha çok benzerlik gösterdiği, öğretmenlerin ise sevgi, hoşgörü ve aile birliğine önem verme değerlerini öne çıkardıkları belirlenmiştir., Social studies course has an important mission to teach values. Within the scope of this course, 20 fundamental values such as responsibility, respect, tolerance, family bond and susceptibility for cultural heritage were determined for students to gain. Considering the assumption that some of these values may be more important than others for individuals, in this study, it was aimed to determine the value hierarchies of students, preservice and inservice social studies teachers. Therefore, participants were asked to put values which are included Social Studies Education Curriculum into order based on their importance level and to state the first three values. In this study, case study method as a qualitative research method was conducted. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and the data were analyzed by using document analysis method. The data were collected from three cities of Turkey and inservice social studies teachers, students and preservice social studies teachers were participated. Results of this study revealed that, all participants stated respect, honesty, and patriotism as the most important three values for them. Honesty is the common value for all three groups and students’ and preservice teachers’ responses were more similar. On the other hand, teachers reported more importance to love, tolerance, and family bond values.
