The article is about a technique called recompiling, developed by software company Microsoft Corp. Recompiling is a technique that turns nondistributed executables into distributed applications that are asynchronous and logically identical. This is done by rewriting programs at the byte-code level of the .NET Common Intermediate Language (CIL). This is a relatively unexplored use of programming languages. The tools using recompiling have been released by Microsoft in a package called Volta. One use of the application is called Word Worm, which can fill in words being typed by a user based on the first few characters entered.
