BackgroundWith the rapid development of information technology and mobile devices, an increasing number of mobile medical services and platforms have emerged. However, China’s current mental health situation necessitates further discussion and research on how to provide more patient-centered services in the face of many challenges and opportunities. ObjectiveThis study aims to explore the attitudes and preferences of mental health service stakeholders regarding mobile mental health services and discuss the challenges and opportunities faced by mobile technology developers in China. MethodsA web-based survey was conducted by following the Checklist for Reporting Results of Internet E-Surveys (CHERRIES) checklist. A total of 586 valid questionnaires were collected. Respondents included 184 patients or their family members, 225 mental health professionals, and 177 people from the general population. Data analysis was completed using SPSS 24.0. ResultsAmong the various problems perceived regarding the current mental health medical environment, difficulty in finding appropriate psychologists and limited visit times ranked highest. Social media (n=380/586, 64.9%) was the most preferred platform among all participants, whereas professionals showed a higher preference for smartphone apps (n=169/225, 75.1%). Professional instruction, psychological consultation, and mental health education (ranked top 3) were the most commonly identified needs. Nationwide longitudinal evidence linking cognitive decline with exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) constituents remains scarce in China. By constructing a dynamic cohort based on the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, we aimed to assess individual and joint associations of PM2.5 constituents with cognitive function among middle-aged and older adults in China. Linear mixed-effects models incorporated with quantile-based g-computation were applied to investigate individual and joint associations of long-term exposures to PM2.5 constituents with cognitive function. Among 13,507 respondents, we evaluated 38,950 follow-up records of cognitive function tests. Declines in global cognitive score associated with an interquartile range (IQR) increase in exposure were −1.477 (95% CI: −1.722, −1.232) for nitrate, followed by −1.331 (−1.529, −1.133) for ammonium, −1.033 (−1.184, −0.883) for sulfate, −0.988 (−1.144, −0.832) for organic matter and −0.822 (−0.946, −0.699) for black carbon. An IQR-equivalent increase in joint exposure to these PM2.5 constituents was associated with a decline of −1.353 (−1.659, −1.048) in global cognitive score. Female, younger, and well-educated individuals were at greater vulnerability to cognitive impairment related to individual and joint exposure to PM2.5 constituents. The impact of short-term exposure to air pollutants on the morbidity of schizophrenia, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, remains inadequately explored. The objective of this research was to investigate the relationship between short-term exposure to ambient air pollutants and the risk of schizophrenia hospitalization in Jingmen, China. We performed a time-stratified case-crossover study using daily records of hospital admissions due to schizophrenia in Jingmen Mental Health Center from 2015 to 2017. Environmental exposures to air pollutants and meteorological conditions on case and control days were estimated on the basis of measurements from ground monitoring stations. To investigate the relationship between short-term exposure to ambient air pollutants and the risk of hospitalization for schizophrenia, a conditional logistic regression model was employed. We performed subgroup analyses stratified according to sex, age groups, and season. In total, 4079 schizophrenia hospitalizations were recorded during the designated period. Increased risk of schizophrenia was merely associated with short-term exposure to SO2 and NO2. The estimated odds per interquartile range (IQR) increase in exposure was 1.112 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.033, 1.196) for SO2 (IQR = 12 µg/m3) and 1.112 (95% CI: 1.033, 1.197) for NO2 (IQR = 18 µg/m3) on lag-0 day. Greater air pollution-schizophrenia associations were observed among middle-aged and older adults (over 45 years of age) and during the cold season. This study added case-crossover evidence indicating that short-term exposure to ambient air pollution, specifically SO2 and NO2, is linked to a higher risk of hospital admissions for schizophrenia. The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically increased use of remote-delivered mental health services. This study identifies advantages and limitations of remote-delivered services on college campuses to inform mental health delivery post-pandemic. Methods: Clinicians (n = 30) were asked to evaluate COVID-19's impact on their work, environment, and wellness in an online survey. Qualitative data was coded using a thematic analysis approach, while quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Many clinicians reported benefits of remote services, including increased accessibility, greater convenience, no change in therapeutic alliance, and decreased stress for clinicians. Clinicians also experienced challenges such as social isolation, technological difficulties, and personal/family concerns. Clinicians envisioned a hybrid service combining online and in-person activities post-pandemic. Conclusions: Overall, remote-delivered mental health services on college campuses have potential in increasing treatment quality while highlighting a necessity for further research in hybrid mental health delivery. Background: Recently pilot published city-level air quality health index (AQHI) provides a useful tool for communicating short-term health risks of ambient air pollution, but fails to account for intracity spatial heterogeneity in exposure and associated population health impacts. This study aims to develop the intracity spatiotemporal AQHI (ST-AQHI) via refined air pollution-related health risk assessments., Methods: A three-stage analysis was conducted through integrating province-wide death surveillance data and high-resolution gridded estimates of air pollution and climate factors spanning 2016-2019 in Jiangsu Province, eastern China. First, an individual-level case-crossover design was employed to quantify the short-term risk of nonaccidental mortality associated with residential exposure to individual pollutant (i.e., PM 2.5 , NO 2 , O 3 , and SO 2 ). Second, we accumulated and scaled the excess risks arising from multiple pollutants to formulate daily gridded ST-AQHI estimates at 0.1° × 0.1°, dividing exposure-related risks into low (0-3), moderate (4-6), high (7-9), and extreme high (10+) levels. Finally, the effectiveness of ST-AQHI as composite risk communication was validated through checking the dose-response associations of individual ST-AQHI exposure with deaths from nonaccidental and major cardiopulmonary causes via repeating case-crossover analyses., Results: We analyzed a total of 1,905,209 nonaccidental death cases, comprising 785,567 from circulatory diseases and 247,336 from respiratory diseases. In the first-stage analysis, for each 10-μg/m 3 rise in PM 2.5 , NO 2 , O 3 , and SO 2 exposure at lag-01 day, population risk of nonaccidental death was increased by 0.8% (95% confidence interval: 0.7%, 0.9%), 1.9% (1.7%, 2.0%), 0.4% (0.3%, 0.5%), and 4.1% (3.7%, 4.5%), respectively. Spatiotemporal distribution of ST-AQHI exhibited a consistent declining trend throughout the study period (2016-2019), with annual average ST-AQHI decreasing from 5.2 ± 1.3 to 4.0 ± 1.0 and high-risk days dropping from 15.8% (58 days) to 1.6% (6 days). Exposure associated health risks showed great intracity- and between-city heterogeneities. In the validation analysis, ST-AQHI demonstrated approximately linear, threshold-free associations with multiple death events from nonaccidental and major cardiopulmonary causes, suggesting excellent performance in predicting exposure-related health risks. Specifically, each 1-unit rise in ST-AQHI was significantly associated with an excess risk of 2.0% (1.8%, 2.1%) for nonaccidental mortality, 2.3% (2.1%, 2.6%) for overall circulatory mortality, and 2.7% (2.3%, 3.1%) for overall respiratory mortality, as well as 1.7%-3.0% for major cardiopulmonary sub-causes., Conclusions: ST-AQHI developed in this study performed well in predicting intracity spatiotemporal heterogeneity of death risks related to multiple air pollutants, and may hold significant practical importance in communicating air pollution-related health risks to the public at the community scales., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (Copyright © 2024 Elsevier B.V. Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether a virtual reality (VR) program designed and developed based on the hallucinogenic harm reduction and integration (PHRI) clinical model could be more effective in guiding positive thinking training, improving positive thinking awareness and ability, and, to some extent, facilitating personal efficacy and emotional state compared to a traditional VR program that places users in a virtual natural ecological environment to guide positive thinking training. We also sought to understand the factors that may influence the effectiveness of VR interventions and user experience., Method: Seventy-six randomly recruited participants were divided into a control group and an experimental group of 38 participants, each according to a random number table, and were trained in VR meditation for eight weeks. The experimental group used a PHRI-based mindfulness program, while the control group used a traditional mindfulness meditation program. We used The Mindful Attention Awareness Scale and the PAD emotional three-dimensional scale to assess the level of state mindfulness and changes in the emotional state before and at the end of the experiment. The Immersive Tendencies Questionnaire measured the user's sense of presence and immersion in the virtual environment. The Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaires and the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) were used at the baseline assessment stage before and at the 4-week follow-up after the experiment to assess the change in trait mindfulness levels due to the mindfulness training. The Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaires and the DASS-21 were used to assess changes in mindfulness and mental health trait levels., Results: At the end of the experiment, the MMSQ score was significantly lower in the control group than in the experimental group, while the ITQ score was significantly higher than in the experimental group, and both scores were statistically significant ( p  < 0.05). In the follow-up assessment four weeks after the end of the experiment, the FFMQ-15 score and the DASS-21 were significantly and statistically higher in the experimental group than in the control group ( p  < 0.05). Since the scores of the PAD scale did not obey a normal distribution, we used the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to assess the results, which proved that the experimental group had higher levels of emotional activation and arousal., Conclusion: The VR positive thinking program developed based on PHRI can significantly increase the positive thinking state and emotional arousal and activation of the general population participants but does not directly lead to the growth of positive emotions. Moreover, this detached psychedelic scene brings users a weaker sense of presence and presence than traditional natural space scenes. Furthermore, it does not bring any intense simulator motion sickness symptoms. Background: There has been growing interest in using the traditional Chinese herb Buyang Huanwu Decoction (BHD) as a potential treatment for spinal cord injury (SCI), owing to its long-used treatment for SCI in China. However, the efficacy and safety of BHD treatment for SCI remain widely skeptical. This meta-analysis aims to assess the safety and efficacy of BHD in managing SCI., Method: A comprehensive literature search was conducted across several databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, and Sinomed, up to January 1, 2024. Randomized controlled clinical trials evaluating the safety or efficacy of BHD in SCI treatment were included. The analysis focused on 8 critical endpoints: Patient-perceived total clinical effective rate, American Spinal Cord Injury Association (ASIA) sensory score, ASIA motor score, somatosensory evoked potential, motor evoked potential, visual analog scale pain score, Japanese Orthopaedic Association score, and adverse events., Results: Thirteen studies comprising 815 participants met the inclusion criteria. No significant heterogeneity or publication bias was observed across the trials. The findings revealed significant improvements in the patient-perceived total clinical effective rate (OR = 3.77; 95% confidence interval [CI] = [2.43, 5.86]; P < .001), ASIA sensory score (mean difference [MD] = 8.22; 95% CI = [5.87, 10.56]; P < .001), ASIA motor score (MD = 7.16; 95% CI = [5.15, 9.18]; P < .001), somatosensory evoked potential (MD = 0.25; 95% CI = [0.03, 0.48]; P = .02), motor evoked potential (MD = 0.30; 95% CI = [0.14, 0.46]; P = .0002), and Japanese Orthopaedic Association score (MD = 1.99; 95% CI = [0.39, 3.58]; P = .01) in the BHD combination group compared to the control group. Additionally, there was a significant reduction in visual analog scale pain scores (MD = -0.81; 95% CI = [-1.52, -0.11]; P = .02) with BHD combination treatment, without a significant increase in adverse effects (OR = 0.68; 95% CI = [0.33, 1.41]; P = .3)., Conclusion: The current evidence suggests that BHD is effective and safe in treating SCI, warranting consideration as a complementary and alternative therapy. Objectives: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is a global public health crisis, which elicits psychological problems in different population . This study is to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on mental health in the front-line staff., Methods: Patient Health Questionnare-9 (PHQ-9), Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), and Fatigue Self-assessment Scale (FSAS) were used to assess the depression, anxiety, and fatigue in front-line staff., Results: The detection rates of depression, anxiety, and fatigue were 49.1%, 21.8%, and 76.0% among the front-line staff. The rates of depression, anxiety, and fatigue in community workers were higher than those in medical workers and other occupational staff ( P <0.01). The PHQ-9 of front-line staffs was negatively correlated with age, family income, family members' support, satisfaction of service objects, and sleep quality (all P <0.01), while positively correlated with education level, fatigue, fear of pneumonia, and the duration of daily attention to the COVID-19 (all P <0.01). SAS was negatively correlated with age, family income, family support, satisfaction of objects service, and sleep quality (all P <0.01), while positively correlated with gender, fatigue, fear of pneumonia, and duration of daily attention to the COVID-19 (all P <0.01)., Conclusions: The front-line workers should manage work and rest time reasonably to adjust their negative mood and fatigue. The government and the society should pay more attention to the psychological state of the front-line staff, particularly for the staff working in the community or villages and towns in preventing the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, front-line staff can be obtained mental intervention or be taken a rest from the high-intensive work.
