The article discusses the capture and training of killer whales. It states that up until 1965, scientists believed they were untrainable, preferring to focus their energies on understanding dolphins. On July 12, 1965, however, scientists captured Namu, and discovered that they were as intelligent and trainable as dolphins. They have since become a staple at aquatic shows. This was made possible by military funding, which sought to train dolphins and killer whales for use in search and recovery missions.
