In the course of an investigation by the Institute, visual fatigue among men engaged on a fine assembly process was greatly reduced by (i) the provision of glasses for men with defective vision, (ii) the introduction of a rest pause, (iii) the installation of a new type of lighting unit, specially designed for the work. Output, in consequence, was increased by nearly 20 per cent., and the percentage of spoiled work reduced by more than half. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The author identified the eye stress experienced by school children from staying up late to watch television programs as the reason behind the establishment of the school program on general good health. The school program provides suggested rules for watching television, mentoring seating, room-lighting and position, class discussions on how to watch television with the most comfort and least fatigue.

The article discusses the author's comments on the increasing rate of people with defective vision. She recounts the presence of some technologies that are developed as time changed, which required the closest concentration and the muscular effort of the eyes. She offers suggestions on how to deal with the eyestrain problems through the help of scientists and illuminating engineers.

The article focuses on the diagonal seating plan established at the Glassboro Teachers College in Glassboro, New Jersey to increase lighting efficiency in the school. It was an efficient plan of school president Edgar F. Bunce which requires minimum effort and time expenditure. Its implementation needs no money at all, it only needs to arrange the seats in the college in a diagonal manner. It solved the students' problems such as eyestrain and discomfort brought by insufficient light.
