Polyploid is considered an advantage that has evolved to be more environmentally adaptable than its diploid. To understand if doubled chromosome of diploid rice can improve drought tolerance, we evaluated the diploid (2X) and autotetraploid (4X) plants of three indica and three japonica varieties. Drought stress in the plastic bucket of four-leaf stage revealed that the drought tolerance of 4X plants was lower than that of its diploid donor plants. The assay of photosynthetic rate of all varieties showed that all 4X varieties had lower rates than their diploid donors. The capacity for reactive oxygen species production and scavenging varied among different 2X and 4X varieties. Further, transcriptomic analysis of 2X and 4X plants of four varieties under normal and drought condition showed that the wide variation of gene expression was caused by difference of varieties, not by chromosome ploidy. However, weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) revealed that the severe interference of photosynthesis-related genes in tetraploid plants under drought stress is the primary reason for the decrease of drought tolerance in autotetraploid lines. Consistently, new transcripts analysis in autotetraploid revealed that the gene transcription related with mitochondrion and plastid of cell component was influenced most significantly. The results indicated that chromosome doubling of diploid rice weakened their drought tolerance, primarily due to disorder of photosynthesis-related genes in tetraploid plants under drought stress. Maintain tetraploid drought tolerance through chromosome doubling breeding in rice needs to start with the selection of parental varieties and more efforts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Super-precision bearing lubrication condition is essential for equipment's overall performance. This paper investigates a monitoring method of bearing lubrication using multi-sensors based on graph data. An experiment was designed and carried out, establishing a dataset including vibration, temperature, and acoustic emission signals. Graph data were constructed based on a priori knowledge and a graph attention network was employed to conduct a study on monitoring bearing lubrication abnormalities and discuss the influence of a missing sensor on the monitoring. The results show that the designed experiments can effectively respond to the degradation process of bearing lubrication, and the graph data constructed based on a priori knowledge show a good effect in the anomaly monitoring process. In addition, the multi-sensor plays a significant role in monitoring bearing lubrication. This work will be highly beneficial for future monitoring methods of bearing lubrication status. Rolling bearings are prone to failure due to the complexity and serious operational environment of rotating equipment. Intelligent fault diagnosis based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) has become an effective tool to ensure the reliable operation of rolling bearings. However, interference caused by environmental noise and variable working conditions can affect the data. To solve this problem, we propose an improved fault diagnosis method called deep convolutional neural network based on multi-scale features and mutual information (MMDCNN). In our approach, a multi-scale convolutional layer is placed at the front end of a 1D_CNN to maximize the retention of the multi-scale initial features. Meanwhile, the key fault features are further enhanced adaptively by introducing a self-attention mechanism. Then, the composite loss function is constructed by maximizing mutual information as an auxiliary loss based on cross-entropy loss; thus, the proposed method can extract robust fault features with high generalization performance. To demonstrate the superiority of MMDCNN, we compared the performance of our scheme with several existing deep learning models on two datasets. The results show that the proposed model successfully achieves bearing fault diagnosis with interference from noise and variable working conditions, possessing a powerful fault feature extraction capability. In the new era of artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), big data collection and analysis for intelligent sports are of great importance in monitoring human health. Herein, naturally, biodegradable triboelectric nanogenerators (NB‐TENGs) are developed based on low‐cost, recyclable, and environmentally friendly corn bracts, which are further applied in neck motion recognition. Three NB‐TENGs are integrated into an elastic collar to create a neck‐condition monitoring triboelectric sensor (NCM‐TS). An intelligent behavioral monitoring system is achieved by combining NCM‐TS with a deep learning model, which allows the recognition of four types of neck motion with an average accuracy of 94%. Background: It has been demonstrated that progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) correlates with structural abnormalities in several distinct regions of the brain. However, whether there are changes in the morphological similarity network (MSN) and the relationship between changes in brain structure and gene expression remain largely unknown. Methods: We used two independent cohorts (discovery dataset: PSP: 51, healthy controls (HC): 82; replication dataset: PSP: 53, HC: 55) for MSN analysis and comparing the longitudinal changes in the MSN of PSP. Then, we applied partial least squares regression to determine the relationships between changes in MSN and spatial transcriptional features and identified specific genes associated with MSN differences in PSP. We further investigated the biological processes enriched in PSP‐associated genes and the cellular characteristics of these genes, and finally, we performed an exploratory analysis of the relationship between MSN changes and neurotransmitter receptors. Results: We found that the MSN in PSP patients was mainly decreased in the frontal and temporal cortex but increased in the occipital cortical region. This difference is replicable. In longitudinal studies, MSN differences are mainly manifested in the frontal and parietal regions. Furthermore, the expression pattern associated with MSN changes in PSP involves genes implicated in astrocytes and excitatory and inhibitory neurons and is functionally enriched in neuron‐specific biological processes related to synaptic signaling. Finally, we found that the changes in MSN were mainly negatively correlated with the levels of serotonin, norepinephrine, and opioid receptors. Conclusions: These results have enhanced our understanding of the microscale genetic and cellular mechanisms responsible for large‐scale morphological abnormalities in PSP patients, suggesting potential targets for future therapeutic trials. With the fast development of growing technology, the discourse has evolved rapidly encompassing both the linguistic and non-linguistic modes of communication. Specially, business discourse in the 21st century competitive world has become multimodal offering itself to be analyzed from several aspects. Advertisements reflect multi-modality when make use of both linguistic and semiotic modes. The present study with a focus on one jubilee life insurance advertisement, explicates the relationship between linguistic and non-linguistic i.e., semiotic modes to show how such ads communicate the desired message to the target audience. For the purpose, the study utilizes Kress and Van Leeuwen’s (1996) theory of Visual Grammar. This study has found that the interrelation and interdependency of multiple modes in the advertisement contribute to meaning making. The findings of the study reveal that these relationships work at three levels: firstly, between the represented participants; secondly, between the represented participants and the viewers; and lastly, between the represented participants and the actual participants i.e. the ad makers and the viewers. The researcher maintains that the 21st century multimodal texts can be better analyzed when traditional literacy joins hands with an understanding and application of visual grammar theories like that of Kress and Van Leeuwen’s (1996) theory of Visual Grammar. Basal‐like breast cancer (BLBC) is the most aggressive molecular subtype of breast cancer with worse prognosis and fewer treatment options. The underlying mechanisms upon BLBC transcriptional dysregulation and its upstream transcription factors (TFs) remain unclear. Here, among the hyperactive candidate TFs of BLBC identified by bioinformatic analysis, POU4F1 is uniquely upregulated in BLBC and is associated with poor prognosis. POU4F1 is necessary for the tumor growth and malignant phenotypes of BLBC through regulating G1/S transition by direct binding at the promoter of CDK2 and CCND1. More importantly, POU4F1 maintains BLBC identity by repressing ERα expression through CDK2‐mediated EZH2 phosphorylation and subsequent H3K27me3 modification in ESR1 promoter. Knocking out POU4F1 in BLBC cells reactivates functional ERα expression, rendering BLBC sensitive to tamoxifen treatment. In‐depth epigenetic analysis reveals that the subtype‐specific re‐configuration and activation of the bivalent chromatin in the POU4F1 promoter contributes to its unique expression in BLBC, which is maintained by DNA demethylase TET1. Together, these results reveal a subtype‐specific epigenetically activated TF with critical role in promoting and maintaining BLBC, suggesting that POU4F1 is a potential therapeutic target for BLBC. With the development of multimedia and the Internet, meanings are expressed in diverse forms. A movie poster is a multimodal discourse that integrates text, image, color, composition, and other elements, which not only gives the audience visual aesthetic enjoyment but also conveys the theme of the movie in a highly concise and effective way. Based on the theory of Visual Grammar, this study taking the poster of the recent popular movie Octagonal as the research object, conducted a multimodal discourse analysis on the poster in a qualitative way. It studied the expression of the meaning of the poster from three dimensions, namely representational meaning, interactive meaning and compositional meaning, and explored the role of the design of the poster in conveying the theme of the movie. This study aims to explore the effect of ginkgolide B (GB) on obese mice. An obese C57BL/6J mice model was induced by high-fat diet firstly, and then the obese mice were divided into 4 groups according to body weight randomly: Positive model group (PG), GB low dose group (GBL), GB medium dose group (GBM) and GB high dose group (GBH). After 8-week intervention, the obesity-related indexes (weight change, visceral fat coefficient and serum indexes) of mice in each group were measured. Results showed that the weight gain of mice in GBM and GBH were significantly decreased than in PG (P<0.05), and the visceral fat coefficient of mice in GBH group was also reduced significantly (P<0.05) after GB treatment. Meanwhile, the serum indexes (TG, TC, LDL-C and HDL-C) of mice in GBM and GBH were obviously improved, especially in GBH. Besides, histopathologic findings showed that liver fat deposition was apparently reduced in GBM and GBH. Furthermore, qRT-PCR results showed that the mRNA expression level of PPARγ in liver of mice in GBM and GBH was significantly decreased (P<0.05) in comparison with PG, while the mRNA expression level of UCP-2 was significantly increased (P<0.05). In summary, this study demonstrated that GB of medium and high doses improved obesity in mice, and this ameliorating effect might be related to PPARγ-UCP-2 signaling pathway. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As a key component of rotating machinery power transmission system, rolling bearings in gas turbines are often required to serve in complex working conditions such as the high speed, the heavy load, the variable load, the variable rotational speed, and so on. The signals of bearing failures are easily drowned out by strong background noise and disturbances of related components. In the mechanical transmission system, the signals of bearing failures are easily submerged by the strong background noise and the disturbance of related components, especially for the composite bearing failures, which seriously hinders the effective identification of the vibration characteristics of the bearing operating state and increases the difficulty of fault diagnosis. In order to investigate the impact of interference on the bearing, through the establishment of rolling bearing composite fault vibration model, analyze the relationship between the vibration signals caused by different types of bearing failures and the corresponding vibration characteristics, to reveal the transmission system of the parts of the perturbation of the main multi-interference factors on the bearing fault signal influence law. The experimental verification shows that disturbance yp(t) caused by the sum of gear meshing frequency, and installation errors of the shaft, and coupling in the transmission system and background noise ni(t), which makes the fault frequency relatively weak and difficult to observe, and makes it difficult to accurately separate the fault information of the bearing. It provides a theoretical basis to solve the problem of damage identification and fault diagnosis of rolling bearings under multi-interference state. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Consumption of dietary fiber and anthocyanin has been linked to a lower incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC). This study scrutinizes the potential antitumorigenic attributes of a black rice diet (BRD), abundantly rich in dietary fiber and anthocyanin. Our results demonstrate notable antitumorigenic effects in mice on BRD, indicated by a reduction in both the size and number of intestinal tumors and a consequent extension in life span, compared to control diet‐fed counterparts. Furthermore, fecal transplants from BRD‐fed mice to germ‐free mice led to a decrease in colonic cell proliferation, coupled with maintained integrity of the intestinal barrier. The BRD was associated with significant shifts in gut microbiota composition, specifically an augmentation in probiotic strains Bacteroides uniformis and Lactobacillus. Noteworthy changes in gut metabolites were also documented, including the upregulation of indole‐3‐lactic acid and indole. These metabolites have been identified to stimulate the intestinal aryl hydrocarbon receptor pathway, inhibiting CRC cell proliferation and colorectal tumorigenesis. In summary, these findings propose that a BRD may modulate the progression of intestinal tumors by fostering protective gut microbiota and metabolite profiles. The study accentuates the potential health advantages of whole‐grain foods, emphasizing the potential utility of black rice in promoting health. Highlights: The black rice diet (BRD) can slow down the development of colorectal tumors in ApcMin/+ and azoxymethane/dextran sulfate sodium (AOM/DSS) colorectal cancer (CRC) model mice.The BRD increases the abundance of intestinal probiotics, such as Bacteroides uniformis and Lactobacillus, while reducing potential intestinal pathogens.The upregulated metabolites indole and indole‐3‐lactic acid in BRD are ligands of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) pathway, which slow down the development of CRC by activating intestinal AHR receptor gene expression.A moderate consumption of BRD is expected to become a potential strategy for the prevention and treatment of CRC by improving gut microbiota and metabolites.
