Uranyl complex dissolved in room-temperature ionic liquids has diagnostic absorption and emission spectra that has allowed the identification of the symmetry and geometry of the complex. The uranyl complexes are examined in imidazolium and pyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ionic liquids.

Abstract

A general method is described for the synthesis and purification of hydrophilic ionic liquids, choline saccharinate and choline acesulfamate. The analysis has shown that choline saccharinate and choline acesulfamate are ionic liquids with a low toxicity, as these ionic liquids are composed of animal feed additives and of additives for human nutrition.

Abstract

The synthesis and characterization of near-infrared (NIR) emitting complexes of Nd(III), Er(III) and Yd(III) based on hexacoordinate lanthanide ions with an aryl functionalized imidodiphosphinate ligand, tpip, are described. The results indicate the effective shielding of the lanthanide by the twelve phenyl groups of the tpip ligands and the reduction of high-energy vibrations in close proximity to the lanthanide, which are the two important features in the design of NIR emitting lanthanide complexes.

Abstract

The synthesis and x-ray structure characterization of a newly designed receptor, Discopus from triphenylene core surrounded by six (diaryl)phosphinate groups is reported. The results from molecular dynamics simulations and recognition experiments provide insights into the stronger hydrogen bond assisted by a [pi]-interaction between the Discopus core and one catechol molecule that exist within the 1:2 (host:guest) complex.

Abstract

The complex formation of the uranyl ion with chloride ions in acetonitrile is examined by factor analysis of ultraviolet-visible absorption and U [L.sub.3] edge EXAFS (extended X-ray absorption fine structure) spectra. The U(VI) coordination of the solution species [U[O.sub.2][Cl.sub.2]([H.sub.2]O)[(MeCN).sub.2]] has changed during the crystallization of replacing one MeCN molecule with a bridging [[mu].sub.3].O atom in the tetramer.

Abstract

The unique absorption properties of the 9-hydroxyphenalen-1-one (HPHN) ligand are explored to obtain visible-light-sensitizable rare-earth complexes in 1:3 and 1:4 metal-to-ligand ratios. The X-ray crystal structures of the tris complexes have shown solvent coordination to the central rare-earth ion, whereas in the tetrakis complexes, the four [PHN.sup.-] ligands form a protective shield around the central ion, preventing small solvent molecules from coordinating to the rare-earth ion, at least in the solid state.

Abstract

A study reports the first lanthanide-containing ionic liquids based on the 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium (BMIM) cation and lanthanide thiocyanate anions of the general formula [[Ln[(NCS).sub.x][(H2O).sub.y].sup.3-x]. The compounds are transparent liquids at room temperature and the crystal structure of [BMMIM.sub.4][La(NCS)7](H2O)] indicates that hydrogen bonding might influence the melting points.

Abstract

CeNA oligonucleotides consist of a phosphorylated backbone where the deoxyribose sugars are replaced by cyclohexene moieties. The X-ray structure determination and analysis of a fully modified octamer sequence GTGTACAC, which is the first crystal structure of a carbocyclic-based nucleic acid, is presented. This particular sequence was built with left-handed building blocks and crystallizes as a left- handed double helix. The helix can be characterized as belonging to the (mirrored) A-type family. Crystallographic data were processed up to 1.53 Å, and the octamer sequence crystallizes in the space group R32. The sugar puckering is found to adopt the ³H2 half-chair conformation which mimics the C3′-endo conformation of the ribose sugar. The double helices stack on top of each other to form continuous helices, and static disorder is observed due to this end-to-end stacking. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

An extended set of nanosecond-scale molecular dynamics simulations of DNA duplex sequences in explicit solvent interacting with the minor groove binding drug 4&primel;,6-diamidino-2-phenylindote (DAPI) are investigated for four different and sequence specific binding modes. Force fields for DAPI have been parametrized to properly reflect its internal nonplanarity. Sequences investigated include the binding modes observed experimentally, that is, AATT in d(CGCGAATTCGCG)[sub 2] and ATTG in d(GGCCAATTGG)[sub 2] and alternative shifted binding modes ATTC and AATT, respectively. In each case. stable MD simulations are obtained well reproducing specific hydration patterns seen in the experiments. In contrast to the 2.4 Å d(CGCGAATTCGCG)[sub 2] crystal structure, the DAPI is nonplanar, consistent with its gas-phase geometry and the higher resolution crystal structure. The simulations also suggest that the DAPI molecule is able to adopt different conformational substates accompanied by specific hydration patterns that include longresiding waters. The MM_PBSA technology for estimating relative free energies was utilized. The most consistent free energy results were obtained with an approach that uses a single trajectory of the DNA- DAPI complex to estimate all free energy terms. It is demonstrated that explicit inclusion of a subset of bound water molecules shifts the calculated relative binding free energies in favor of both crystallographically observed binding modes, underlining the importance of structured hydration. 50. An Extrusion Strategy for On-Demand SF 5 Cl Gas Generation from a Commercial Disulfide.

Abstract

Herein we report a novel methodology for the ex situ generation of SF 5 Cl by employing 4,4'-dipyridyl disulfide as a safe commercial reagent, obviating the need for lecture bottles. The method is applicable to certain SF 5 Cl-involving transformations by using a two-chamber reactor. Moreover, easily applying SF 5 Cl in different solvents is rendered feasible, while avoiding the use of glovebox techniques. This report also suggests 1 H- 19 F HOESY as a simple and fast stereochemistry indication for chloropentafluorosulfanylated olefins.
