Let f be a holomorphic self-map of the unit ball in dimension 2, which does not have an interior fixed point. Suppose that f has a Wolff point p with the boundary dilatation coefficient equal to 1 and the non-tangential differential dfp = id. The local behaviours of f near p are quite diverse, and we give a detailed study in many typical cases. As a byproduct, we give a dynamical interpretation of the Burns–Krantz rigidity theorem. Note also that similar results hold on two-dimensional contractible smoothly bounded strongly pseudoconvex domains.

We discuss the existence, nonexistence and multiplicity of solutions for a class of elliptic equations in the unit ball with zero Dirichlet boundary conditions involving nonlinearities with supercritical growth. By using Pohozaev type identity we prove a nonexistence result for a class of supercritical problems with variable exponent which allow us to complement the analysis developed in (Calc. Var. (2016) 55:83). Moreover, we establish existence results of positive solutions for semilinear elliptic equations involving nonlinearities which are subcritical at infinity just in a part of the domain, and can be supercritical in a suitable sense.

A Δ-pointxof a Banach space is a norm-one element that is arbitrarily close to convex combinations of elements in the unit ball that are almost at distance 2 fromx. If, in addition, every point in the unit ball is arbitrarily close to such convex combinations,xis a Daugavet point. A Banach spaceXhas the Daugavet property if and only if every norm-one element is a Daugavet point. We show that Δ- and Daugavet points are the same inL1-spaces, inL1-preduals, as well as in a big class of Müntz spaces. We also provide an example of a Banach space where all points on the unit sphere are Δ-points, but none of them are Daugavet points. We also study the property that the unit ball is the closed convex hull of its Δ-points. This gives rise to a new diameter-two property that we call the convex diametral diameter-two property. We show that allC(K) spaces,Kinfinite compact Hausdorff, as well as all Müntz spaces have this property. Moreover, we show that this property is stable under absolute sums.

Our aim in this paper is to deal with integrability of maximal functions for Herz–Morrey spaces on the unit ball with variable exponent $p_{1}(\cdot )$ approaching $1$ and for double phase functionals $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F7}_{d}(x,t)=t^{p_{1}(x)}+a(x)t^{p_{2}}$, where $a(x)^{1/p_{2}}$ is nonnegative, bounded and Hölder continuous of order $\unicode[STIX]{x1D703}\in (0,1]$ and $1/p_{2}=1-\unicode[STIX]{x1D703}/N>0$. We also establish Sobolev type inequality for Riesz potentials on the unit ball.

We prove that if $M$ is a $\text{JBW}^{\ast }$-triple and not a Cartan factor of rank two, then $M$ satisfies the Mazur–Ulam property, that is, every surjective isometry from the unit sphere of $M$ onto the unit sphere of another real Banach space $Y$ extends to a surjective real linear isometry from $M$ onto $Y$.

We consider semistable, radially symmetric and increasing solutions of Sk(D2u) = g(u) in the unit ball of ℝn, where Sk(D2u) is the k-Hessian operator of u and g ∈ C1 is a general positive nonlinearity. We establish sharp pointwise estimates for such solutions in a proper weighted Sobolev space, which are optimal and do not depend on the specific nonlinearity g. As an application of these results, we obtain pointwise estimates for the extremal solution and its derivatives (up to order three) of the equation Sk(D2u) = λg(u), posed in B1, with Dirichlet data $u\arrowvert _{B_1}=0$, where g is a continuous, positive, nonincreasing function such that lim t→−∞g(t)/|t|k = +∞.

We study frames in ℝ3 and mapping from a surface M in ℝ3 to the space of frames. We consider in detail mapping frames determined by a unit tangent principal or asymptotic direction field U and the normal field N. We obtain their generic local singularities as well as the generic singularities of the direction field itself. We show, for instance, that the cross-cap singularities of the principal frame map occur precisely at the intersection points of the parabolic and subparabilic curves of different colours. We study the images of the asymptotic and principal foliations on the unit sphere by their associated unit direction fields. We show that these curves are solutions of certain first order differential equations and point out a duality in the unit sphere between some of their configurations.

A norm ‖ċ‖ on c00 is called combinatorial if there is a regular family of finite subsets $\mathcal{F}$, so that $\|x\|=\sup_{F \in \mathcal{F}} \sum_{i \in F} |x(i)|$. We prove the set of extreme points of the ball of a combinatorial Banach space is countable. This extends a theorem of Shura and Trautman. The second contribution of this article is to exhibit many new examples of extreme points for the unit ball of dual Tsirelson's original space and give an explicit construction of an uncountable collection of extreme points of the ball of Tsirelson's original space. We also prove some stability properties of the intermediate norms used to define Tsirelson's space and give a lower bound of the stabilization function for these intermediate norms.

Extending recent results by Cascales et al. [‘Plasticity of the unit ball of a strictly convex Banach space’, Rev. R. Acad. Cienc. Exactas Fís. Nat. Ser. A Mat.110(2) (2016), 723–727], we demonstrate that for every Banach space $X$ and every collection $Z_{i},i\in I$, of strictly convex Banach spaces, every nonexpansive bijection from the unit ball of $X$ to the unit ball of the sum of $Z_{i}$ by $\ell _{1}$ is an isometry.

Let Mn, n ≥ 3, be a complete hypersurface in $\mathbb{S}$n+1. When Mn is compact, we show that Mn is a homology sphere if the squared norm of its traceless second fundamental form is less than $\frac{2(n-1)}{n}$. When Mn is non-compact, we show that there are no non-trivial L2 harmonic p-forms, 1 ≤ p ≤ n − 1, on Mn under pointwise condition. We also show the non-existence of L2 harmonic 1-forms on Mn provided that Mn is minimal and $\frac{n-1}{n}$-stable. This implies that Mn has only one end. Finally, we prove that there exists an explicit positive constant C such that if the total curvature of Mn is less than C, then there are no non-trivial L2 harmonic p-forms on Mn for all 1 ≤ p ≤ n − 1.

We consider the following semilinear elliptic equation:where B1 is the unit ball in ℝd, d ≥ 3, λ > 0 and p > 0. Firstly, following Merle and Peletier, we show that there exists an eigenvalue λp,∞ such that (*) has a solution (λp,∞,Wp) satisfying lim|x|→0Wp(x) = ∞. Secondly, we study a bifurcation diagram of regular solutions to (*). It follows from the result of Dancer that (*) has an unbounded bifurcation branch of regular solutions that emanates from (λ, u) = (0, 0). Here, using the singular solution, we show that the bifurcation branch has infinitely many turning points around λp,∞ when 3 ≤ d ≤ 9. We also investigate the Morse index of the singular solution in the d ≥ 11 case.

In this note, we establish a Schwarz–Pick type inequality for holomorphic mappings between unit balls Bn and Bm in corresponding complex spaces. We also prove a Schwarz-Pick type inequality for pluri-harmonic functions.

We define the notion of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F7}$-Carleson measures, where $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F7}$ is either a concave growth function or a convex growth function, and provide an equivalent definition. We then characterize $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F7}$-Carleson measures for Bergman–Orlicz spaces and use them to characterize multipliers between Bergman–Orlicz spaces.

We study the following polyharmonic Hénon equation:where (m)* = 2N/(N – 2m) is the critical exponent, B1(0) is the unit ball in ℝN, N ⩾ 2m + 2 and K(|y|) is a bounded function. We prove the existence of infinitely many non-radial positive solutions, whose energy can be made arbitrarily large.

We study the complete Kähler–Einstein metric of certain Hartogs domains ${\rm\Omega}_{s}$ over bounded homogeneous domains in $\mathbb{C}^{n}$. The generating function of the Kähler–Einstein metric satisfies a complex Monge–Ampère equation with Dirichlet boundary condition. We reduce the Monge–Ampère equation to an ordinary differential equation and solve it explicitly when we take the parameter $s$ for some critical value. This generalizes previous results when the base is either the Euclidean unit ball or a bounded symmetric domain.

Let $A_{{\it\alpha}}^{p}$ be the weighted Bergman space of the unit ball in ${\mathcal{C}}^{n}$, $n\geq 2$. Recently, Miao studied products of two Toeplitz operators defined on $A_{{\it\alpha}}^{p}$. He proved a necessary condition and a sufficient condition for boundedness of such products in terms of the Berezin transform. We modify the Berezin transform and improve his sufficient condition for products of Toeplitz operators. We also investigate products of two Hankel operators defined on $A_{{\it\alpha}}^{p}$, and products of the Hankel operator and the Toeplitz operator. In particular, in both cases, we prove sufficient conditions for boundedness of the products.

In this paper, it is proved that every isometry between the unit spheres of two real Banach spaces preserves the frames of the unit balls. As a consequence, if $\def \xmlpi #1{}\def \mathsfbi #1{\boldsymbol {\mathsf {#1}}}\let \le =\leqslant \let \leq =\leqslant \let \ge =\geqslant \let \geq =\geqslant \def \Pr {\mathit {Pr}}\def \Fr {\mathit {Fr}}\def \Rey {\mathit {Re}}X$ and $Y$ are $n$-dimensional Banach spaces and $T_0$ is an isometry from the unit sphere of $X$ onto that of $Y$ then it maps the set of all $(n-1)$-extreme points of the unit ball of $X$ onto that of $Y$.

We prove that if f is an integrable function on the unit sphere S in ℝn, g is its symmetric decreasing rearrangement and u, v are the harmonic extensions of f, g in the unit ball , then v has larger convex integral means over each sphere rS, 0 < r < 1, than u has. We also prove that if u is harmonic in with |u| < 1 and u(0) = 0, then the convex integral mean of u on each sphere rS is dominated by that of U, which is the harmonic function with boundary values 1 on the right hemisphere and −1 on the left one.

We prove that the above problem has no solution when$\beta $is small enough. We also obtain existence results and we analyse the symmetry breaking of the ground state solutions.

This paper focuses on the characterization and the stochastic modelling of the fluid acceleration in turbulent channel flow. In the first part, the acceleration is studied by direct numerical simulation (DNS) at three Reynolds numbers (${\mathit{Re}}_{\ast } = {u}_{\ast } h/ \nu = 180$, 590 and 1000). It is observed that whatever the wall distance is, the norm of acceleration is log-normally distributed and that the variance of the norm is very close to its mean value. It is also observed that from the wall to the centreline of the channel, the orientation of acceleration relaxes statistically towards isotropy. On the basis of dimensional analysis, a universal scaling law for the acceleration norm is proposed. In the second part, in the framework of the norm/orientation decomposition, a stochastic model of the acceleration is introduced. The stochastic model for the norm is based on fragmentation process which evolves across the channel with the wall distance. Simultaneously the orientation is simulated by a random walk on the surface of a unit sphere. The process is generated in such a way that the mean components of the orientation vector are equal to zero, whereas with increasing wall distance, all directions become equally probable. In the third part, the models are assessed in the framework of large-eddy simulation with stochastic subgrid acceleration model (LES–SSAM), introduced recently by Sabel’nikov, Chtab-Desportes & Gorokhovski (Euro. Phys. J. B, vol. 80, 2011, p. 177–187), and designed to account for the intermittency at subgrid scales. Computations by LES–SSAM and its assessment using DNS data show that the prediction of important statistics to characterize the flow, such as the mean velocity, the energy spectra at small scales, the viscous and turbulent stresses, the distribution of the acceleration can be considerably improved in comparison with standard LES. In the last part of this paper, the advantage of LES–SSAM in accounting for the subgrid flow structure is demonstrated in simulation of particle-laden turbulent channel flows. Compared to standard LES, it is shown that for different Stokes numbers, the particle dynamics and the turbophoresis effect can be predicted significantly better when LES–SSAM is applied.

Let H be a real Hilbert space and denote by S its unit sphere. Consider the nonlinear eigenvalue problem Ax + ε B(x) =δ x, where A: H → H is a bounded self-adjoint (linear) operator with nontrivial kernel Ker A, and B: H → H is a (possibly) nonlinear perturbation term. A unit eigenvector x0 ∈ S∩ Ker A of A (thus corresponding to the eigenvalue δ=0, which we assume to be isolated) is said to be persistent, or a bifurcation point (from the sphere S∩ Ker A), if it is close to solutions x ∈ S of the above equation for small values of the parameters δ ∈ ℝ and ε ≠ 0. In this paper, we prove that if B is a C1 gradient mapping and the eigenvalue δ=0 has finite multiplicity, then the sphere S∩ Ker A contains at least one bifurcation point, and at least two provided that a supplementary condition on the potential of B is satisfied. These results add to those already proved in the non-variational case, where the multiplicity of the eigenvalue is required to be odd.

We give characterizations of the positive Borel measures μ on $\mathbb{S}^n$ so that the weighted Hardy–Sobolev spaces $H_s^p(w)$ are imbedded in Lq(dμ), for a range of s > 0, 0 < p, q < + ∞, q ≠ p, where w is a doubling weight in the unit sphere of ℂn.

Let Ap(φ) be the pth Bergman space consisting of all holomorphic functions f on the unit ball B of ℂn for which $\|f\|^p_{p,\varphi }= \int _B |f(z)|^p \varphi (z) \,dA(z)\lt +\infty $, where φ is a given normal weight. Let Tg be the extended Cesàro operator with holomorphic symbol g. The essential norm of Tg as an operator from Ap (φ) to Aq (φ) is denoted by $\|T_g\|_{e, A^p (\varphi )\to A^q (\varphi )} $. In this paper it is proved that, for p≤q, with 1/k=(1/p)−(1/q) , where ℜg(z) is the radial derivative of g; and for p>q, with 1/s=(1/q)−(1/p) .

In this article we consider whether, for integrable functions on the unit ball of ℂn, the mean-value property implies (α,β)-harmonicity. We find that the answer is affirmative when 0ρ0. Here ρ0 is a constant between 11.025 and 11.069.

In this paper, our main aim is to discuss the properties of harmonic mappings in the unit ball 𝔹n. First, we characterize the harmonic Bloch spaces and the little harmonic Bloch spaces from 𝔹n to ℂ in terms of weighted Lipschitz functions. Then we prove the existence of a Landau–Bloch constant for a class of vector-valued harmonic Bloch mappings from 𝔹n to ℂn.

We present a simple construction of spherical wavelets for the unit ball, which we label Radial 3D Needlets. We envisage an experimental framework where data are collected on concentric spheres with the same pixelization at different radial distances from the origin. The unit ball is hence viewed as a tensor product of the unit interval with the unit sphere: a set of eigenfunctions is therefore defined on the corresponding Laplacian operator. Wavelets are then constructed by a smooth convolution of the projectors defined by these eigenfunctions. Localization properties may be rigorously shown to hold in the real and harmonic domain, and an exact reconstruction formula holds; the system allows a very convenient computational implementation.

Some nonlinear eigenvalue problems related to the modelling of the steady-state deflection of an elastic membrane associated with a Micro-Electromechanical System capacitor under a constant applied voltage are analysed using formal asymptotic methods. These problems consist of certain singular perturbations of the basic membrane nonlinear eigenvalue problem Δu= λ/(1 +u)2in Ω withu= 0 on ∂Ω, where Ω is the unit ball in2. It is well known that the radially symmetric solution branch to this basic membrane problem has an infinite fold-point structure with λ → 4/9 as ϵ ≡ 1 − ||u||∞→ 0+. One focus of this paper is to develop a novel singular perturbation method to analytically determine the limiting asymptotic behaviour of this infinite fold-point structure in terms of two constants that must be computed numerically. This theory is then extended to certain generalisations of the basic membrane problem in theN-dimensional unit ball. The second main focus of this paper is to analyse the effect of two distinct perturbations of the basic membrane problem in the unit disk resulting from either a bending energy term of the form −δΔ2uto the operator, or inserting a concentric inner undeflected disk of radius δ. For each of these perturbed problems, it is numerically shown that the infinite fold-point structure for the basic membrane problem is destroyed when δ > 0, and that there is a maximal solution branch for which λ → 0 as ϵ ≡ 1 − ||u||∞→ 0+. For δ > 0, a novel singular perturbation analysis is used in the limit ϵ → 0+to construct the limiting asymptotic behaviour of the maximal solution branch for the biharmonic problem in the unit slab and the unit disk, and for the annulus problem in the unit disk. The asymptotic results for the bifurcation curves are shown to compare very favourably with full numerical results.

For a bounded domain Ω in a complete Riemannian manifold M, we investigate the Dirichlet weighted eigenvalue problem of quadratic polynomial operator Δ2 − aΔ + b of the Laplacian Δ, where a and b are the nonnegative constants. We obtain an inequality for eigenvalues which contains a constant that only depends on the mean curvature of M. It yields an upper bound of the (k + 1)th eigenvalue Λk + 1. As their applications, some inequalities and bounds of eigenvalues on a complete minimal submanifold in a Euclidean space and a unit sphere are obtained.

We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the compactness of differences of composition operators acting on the weighted Bergman spaces in the unit ball. A representation of a composition operator as a finite sum of composition operators modulo compact operators is also studied.

This paper gives a characterization of nonexpansive mappings from the unit sphere of ℓβ (Γ) onto the unit sphere of ℓβ (Δ) where 0<β≤1. By this result, we prove that such mappings are in fact isometries and give an affirmative answer to Tingley’s problem in ℓβ (Γ) spaces. We also show that the same result holds for expansive mappings between unit spheres of ℓβ (Γ) spaces without the surjectivity assumption.

Let Bn denote the unit ball in ℂn, n≥1. Given an α>0, let ℱα(n) denote the class of functions defined for z∈Bn by integrating the kernel (1−〈z,w〉)−α against a complex Borel measure dμ(w), w∈Bn. The family ℱ0(n) corresponds to the logarithmic kernel log (1/(1−〈z,w〉)). Various properties of the spaces ℱα(n), α≥0, are obtained. In particular, pointwise multiplies for ℱα(n) are investigated.

For any rotation-invariant positive regular Borel measure ν on the closed unit ball $\overline{\mathbb{B}}_n$ whose support contains the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}_n$, let L2a be the closure in L2 = L2($\overline{\mathbb{B}}_n, dν) of all analytic polynomials. For a bounded Borel function f on $\overline{\mathbb{B}}_n$, the Toeplitz operator Tf is defined by Tf(ϕ) = P(fϕ) for ϕ ∈ L2a, where P is the orthogonal projection from L2 onto L2a. We show that if f is continuous on $\overline{\mathbb{B}}_n$, then Tf is compact if and only if f(z) = 0 for all z on the unit sphere. This is well known when L2a is replaced by the classical Bergman or Hardy space.

We obtain a new characterisation for weighted Bergman spaces Apα on the unit ball n of ℂn in terms of a double integral of the functions |f(z) − f(w)|/|z − w| and |f(z) − f(w)|/|1 − 〈 z, w〉|.

In this paper, we introduce an integral operator on the unit ball$\BB\subset\CC^n$. The boundedness and compactness of the operator from the Zygmund space to the Bloch-type space${\mathcal B}_\mu(\BB)$or the little Bloch-type space${\mathcal B}_{\mu,0}(\BB)$are investigated.

Spherical radial basis functions are used to define approximate solutions to pseudodifferential equations of negative order on the unit sphere. These equations arise from geodesy. The approximate solutions are found by the collocation method. A salient feature of our approach in this paper is a simple error analysis for the collocation method using the same argument as that for the Galerkin method.

A Kleinian group (a discrete subgroup of conformal automorphisms of the unit ball)Gis said to have proper conjugation if it contains the conjugateαGα−1by some conformal automorphismαas a proper subgroup in it. We show that a Kleinian group of divergence type cannot have proper conjugation. Uniqueness of the Patterson–Sullivan measure for such a Kleinian group is crucial to our proof.

The rolling sphere problem on Euclidean space consists of determining the path of minimal length traced by the point of contact of the oriented unit sphere$\mathbb{S}^{n}$as it rolls on$\mathbb{E}^{n}$without slipping between two points of$\mathbb{E}^{n}\times SO_{n+1}(\mathbb{R})$. This problem is extended to situations in which an oriented sphere$\mathbb{S}_{\rho}^{n}$of radius ρ rolls on a stationary sphere$\mathbb{S}_{\sigma}^{n}$and to the hyperbolic analogue in which the spheres$\mathbb{S}_{\rho}^{n}$and$\mathbb{S}_{\sigma}^{n}$are replaced by the hyperboloids$\mathbb{H}_{\rho}^{n}$and$\mathbb{H}_{\sigma}^{n}$respectively. The notion of “rolling” is defined in an isometric sense: the length of the path traced by the point of contact is measured by the Riemannian metric of the stationary manifold, and the orientation of the rolling object is measured by a matrix in its isometry group. These rolling problems are formulated as left invariant optimal control problems on Lie groups whose Hamiltonian extremal equations reveal two remarkable facts: on the level of Lie algebras the extremal equations of all these rolling problems are governed by a single set of equations, and the projections onto the stationary manifold of the extremal equations havingI4=0, whereI4is an integral of motion, coincide with the elastic curves on this manifold. The paper then outlines some explicit solutions based on the use of symmetries and the corresponding integrals of motion.

In this paper we derive local error estimates for radial basis function interpolation on the unit sphere $\mathbb {S}^2\subset \mathbb {R}^3$. More precisely, we consider radial basis function interpolation based on data on a (global or local) point set $X\subset \mathbb {S}^2$ for functions in the Sobolev space $H^s(\mathbb {S}^2)$ with norm $\|\cdot \|_s$, where s>1. The zonal positive definite continuous kernel ϕ, which defines the radial basis function, is chosen such that its native space can be identified with $H^s(\mathbb {S}^2)$. Under these assumptions we derive a local estimate for the uniform error on a spherical cap S(z;r): the radial basis function interpolant ΛXf of $f\in H^s(\mathbb {S}^2)$ satisfies $\sup _{\mathbf {x}\in S(\mathbf {z};r)} |f(\mathbf {x})-\Lambda _X f(\mathbf {x})| \leq c h^{(s-1)/2} \|f\|_{s}$, where h=hX,S(z;r) is the local mesh norm of the point set X with respect to the spherical cap S(z;r). Our proof is intrinsic to the sphere, and makes use of the Videnskii inequality. A numerical test illustrates the theoretical result.

Let Ω(y′) be an H1(Sn−1) function on the unit sphere satisfying a certain cancellation condition. We study the Lp boundedness of the singular integral operator where α≥n and ρ is a norm function which is homogeneous with respect to certain nonistropic dilation. The result in the paper substantially improves and extends some known results.

We study homeomorphisms of finite exponentially integrable distortion of the unit ball Bn onto a domain Ω of finite volume. We show that under such a mapping the images of almost all radii (in terms of a gauge dimension) have finite discrete length. We also show that our dimension estimate is essentially sharp.

We prove the boundedness of Bergman-type operators on mixed norm spaces Lp·q (φ) for 0 < q < 1 and 0 < p ≤ ∞ of functions on the unit ball of ” with an application to Gleason's problem.

In this paper, the authors consider the behavior on BMO($\mathbb R^n$) and Campanato spaces for the higher-dimensional Marcinkiewicz integral operator which is defined by where Ω is homogeneous of degree zero, has mean value zero and is integrable on the unit sphere. Under certain weak regularity condition on Ω, the authors prove that if f belongs to BMO($\mathbb R^n$) or to a certain Campanato space, then [μΩ(f)]2 is either infinite everywhere or finite almost everywhere, and in the latter case, some kind of boundedness is also obtained. The corresponding Lusin area integral is also considered.

In this paper, we give a characterization of Clifford tori $S^1(\sqrt{\textstyle\frac{nr+2-n}{nr}})\times S^{n-1}(\sqrt{\frac{n-2}{nr}})$ and $S^m(a)\times S^{n-m}(\sqrt{1-a^2}) (2 \le m \le n - 2, 0 \lt a^2 \lt 1)$ in a unit sphere Sn+1 (1). Our results extend the results due to Cheng and Yau [4], and Wang and Xia [11].

We characterize the boundedness and compactness of the extended Cesàro operator Tg from H∞ to the mixed norm space and Bloch-type space (or little Bloch-type space), where g is a given holomorphic function in the unit ball of Cn and Tg is defined by .

We study curvature structures of compact hypersurfaces in the unit sphere Sn+1(1) with two distinct principal curvatures. First of all, we prove that the Riemannian product is the only compact hypersurface in Sn+1(1) with two distinct principal curvatures, one of which is simple and satisfies where n(n − 1)r is the scalar curvature of hypersurfaces and c2 = (n − 2)/nr. This generalized the result of Cheng, where the scalar curvature is constant is assumed. Secondly, we prove that the Riemannian product is the only compact hypersurface with non-zero mean curvature in Sn+1(1) with two distinct principal curvatures, one of which is simple and satisfies This gives a partial answer for the problem proposed by Cheng.

The characterization by weighted Lipschitz continuity is given for the Bloch space on the unit ball of $\mathbb{R}^n$. Similar results are obtained for little Bloch and Besov spaces.

In this paper, we show some results involving classical geometric concepts. For example, we characterize rotundity and Efimov-Stechkin property by mean of faces of the unit ball. Also, we prove that every almost locally uniformly rotund Banach space is locally uniformly rotund if its norm is Fréchet differentiable. Finally, we also provide some theorems in which we characterize the (strongly) exposed points of the unit ball using renormings.

This paper studies the problem of numerical integration over the unit sphere S2 ⊆ ℝ3 for functions in the Sobolev space H3/2(S2). We consider sequences Qm(n), n ∈ ℕ, of cubature (or numerical integration) rules, where Qm(n) is assumed to integrate exactly all (spherical) polynomials of degree ≤ n, and to use m = m(n) values of f. The cubature weights of all rules Qm(n) are assumed to be positive, or alternatively the sequence Qm(n), n ∈ ℕ, is assumed to have a certain local regularity property which involves the weights and the points of the rules Qm(n), n ∈ ℕ. Under these conditions it is shown that the worst-case (cubature) error, denoted by E3/2 (Qm(n)), for all functions in the unit ball of the Hilbert space H3/2 (S2) satisfies the estimate E3/2 (Qm(n)) ≤ c n−3/2, where the constant c is a universal constant for all sequences of positive weight cubature rules. For a sequence Qm(n), n ∈ ℕ, of cubature rules that satisfies the alternative local regularity property the constant c may depend on the sequence Qm(n), n ∈ ℕ. Examples of cubature rules that satisfy the assumptions are discussed.

Let Mn be an immersed umbilic-free hypersurface in the (n + 1)-dimensional unit sphere n+1, then Mn is associated with a so-called Möbius metric g, a Möbius second fundamental form B and a Möbius form Φ which are invariants of Mn under the Möbius transformation group of n+1. A classical theorem of Möbius geometry states that Mn (n ≥ 3) is in fact characterized by g and B up to Möbius equivalence. A Möbius isoparametric hypersurface is defined by satisfying two conditions: (1) Φ ≡ 0; (2) All the eigenvalues of B with respect to g are constants. Note that Euclidean isoparametric hyper-surfaces are automatically Möbius isoparametric, whereas the latter are Dupin hypersurfaces.In this paper, we prove that a Möbius isoparametric hypersurface in 4 is either of parallel Möbius second fundamental form or Möbius equivalent to a tube of constant radius over a standard Veronese embedding of ℝP2 into 4. The classification of hypersurfaces in n+1 (n ≥ 2) with parallel Möbius second fundamental form has been accomplished in our previous paper [6]. The present result is a counterpart of Pinkall’s classification for Dupin hypersurfaces in 4 up to Lie equivalence.

In this paper we consider quaternionic Mobius transformations preserving the unit ball in the quaternions $\bh$ . In other words, maps of the form $g(z)=(az+b)(cz+d)^{-1}$ where $a$ , $b$ , $c$ and $d$ all lie in $\bh$ with the property that $|g(z)| for all $|z| . We give an explicit expression for the fixed points of $g$ in terms of $a$ , $b$ , $c$ and $d$ and we use this to classify quaternionic Mobius transformations into six categories determined by their dynamics.
