What are the motivations and sought gratifications leading information science researchers to share and to reuse research data? Research data are both datasets and supplementary materials such as interview guides or questionnaires. The theoretical backgrounds of this study are the Lasswell Formula of Communication, the Uses and Gratifications Theory, and the Self-determination Theory, which formed the basis for the construction of an interview guide and the interpretation of the interview transcripts. We performed 11 in-depth interviews with German information scientists, all with experiences with data. The results demonstrate that research data sharing is not a rare practice among information scientists. Due to problems with different information horizons of the sharing and the reusing researchers, the reusing of data sets is much rarer than the reuse of supplementary materials. As the primary method of communicating research results, journals garner an enormous impact on community behavior. Publishing the underlying research data alongside journal articles is widely considered good scientific practice. Ideally, journals and their publishers place these recommendations or requirements in their author guidelines and data policies. Several efforts are working to improve the infrastructure, processes, and uptake of research data sharing, including the NFDI4Chem consortium, working groups within the RDA, and IUPAC, including the WorldFAIR Chemistry project. In this article, we present the results of a large-scale analysis of author guidelines from several publishers and journals active in chemistry research, showing how well the publishing landscape supports different criteria and where there is room for improvement. While the requirement for deposition of X-ray diffraction data is commonplace, guidelines rarely mention machine-readable chemical structures and metadata/minimum information standards. Further evaluation criteria included recommendations on persistent identifiers, data availability statements, data deposition into repositories as well as of open analytical data formats. Our survey shows that publishers and journals are starting to include aspects of research data in their guidelines. We as authors should accept and embrace the guidelines with increasing requirements for data availability, data interoperability, and re-usability to improve chemistry research. However, overcoming the differences between AFO and other BFO based ontologies, especially OBO ontologies, will be a major challenge that would best be addressed by a closer collaboration between the OBO community and Allotrope. What distinguishes domain ontologies from application ontologies is the fact that the latter can be understood as concrete customized implementations of the former in a certain software application context ( I e.g. i the ontology of PubChem) [[15]]. General scientific ontologies Of the 10 general scientific ontologies identified, three, namely BFO, SIO, and OntoCAPE, are upper level ontologies. EDUCATION research , *VALUES education , *EDUCATIONAL benefits - Abstract
There are a variety of data sources that can be used for educational research as well as for educational monitoring in Switzerland. Nevertheless, the landscape is fragmented. Individual existing sources are sometimes hard to find and their research potential is difficult to assess. Integrating data sources could add value to research and education monitoring. This paper presents a panel discussion on this topic and goes further by presenting three approaches to improve the potential of data for the Swiss education space. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The establishment of a central service point for research data management (RDM) at a university is a long-time process that can be divided into five phases: initiation, foundation, development, roll-out and stabilisation. This roadmap guides the reader through the individual phases and highlights challenges and implementation steps based on experience gained at the University Library of Duisburg-Essen. The essential parts of the concept for the service point „Research Data Services" (RDS) at the University Library of Duisburg-Essen are the developed service portfolio, which covers the various fields of action of the RDM, as well as the organisational structure, which includes all relevant actors within and outside the university. The entanglement of subject-specific science and RDM is an important condition for the success of the establishment of services. At the University of Duisburg-Essen University this is achieved in particular through close cooperation with research networks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper discusses the development of the video streaming market and its importance for public and academic libraries. It also deals with the specialization of certain providers. In summary, it can be said that streaming of AV media is a valuable additional service for users, especially for public libraries, but for academic libraries essential questions regarding the persistence, citation and subsequent use of resources remain unsolved. TIB plays an active role in achieving the digital transformation of libraries – not only in the form of open science, open access, research data, and digital preservation, but also in the development of services at the interface between analogue and digital formats. The library will continue to expand its role as the German information centre for the digitalisation of science and technology in the future, focusing on the development of new digital offerings that link traditional library services with innovative research results. As a scientific infrastructure facility, TIB faces two major challenges: being the German national library of science and technology, it operates as a stakeholder at the heart of the transition to the digital production of scientific work, digital publishing, and the globalisation of information and communication. At the same time, TIB increasingly conducts its own research as an institute financed by the German federation and the federal states. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DATA management , *LITERACY , *LIBRARIES - Abstract
This article provides an overview over discussions, initiatives, and projects in the field of digital data management while taking currents trends and developments in Germany and Europe into consideration. The main foci of the article are new task areas in research libraries, which are internationally recognized by the terms data literacy and data stewardship. In addition to data scientists, a large number of experts for the management of digital data (so-called data stewards) will be needed in the future. This is why the Berlin School for Library and Information Science at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the Faculty for Information Sciences at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam have collaborated in designing a new executive Master program Digital Data Management, which started in April 2019. This article elaborates how the Master program is connected to national and international developments and challenges. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the coming years research data management will require a large number of qualified staff to perform tasks in institutes, research projects and within the future national research data infrastructure. In terms of the lack of education and training paths to acquire the corresponding skills a shortage of skilled workers appears virtually unavoidable. A train-the-trainer programme was successfully developed as part of the FDMentor project to quickly and comprehensively qualify researchers and infrastructure personnel for knowledge transfer. Research data are stored in repositories for long term use. This presupposes that the repositories comply with certain principles. The FAIR data guiding principles propose that research data should be Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR). This article shows that the open source software MyCoRe is capable of providing repositories that meet the FAIR principles. Therefor three MyCoRe applications that manage and provide research data will be examined and evaluated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The field of action "research data management" is placed within the context of changing requirements to research libraries as well as of strategies and requirements named by science policy on national and European level. The focus lies on a potential service portfolio of a research library, which offers researchers support with regard to the management and publication of research data. Potential services might range from advisory services to the development of research data infrastructures, which facilitate the record, evaluation, visibility, and review of research data. DIGITAL library resources , *DATA analysis - Abstract
Research data, in all its disciplinary heterogeneity, is in almost all Specialised Information Services part of the agenda. Key aspects of the discussion include the communication of requirements, difficulties and possibilities of research data management towards academic communities as well as the integration of the research data's metadata into research portals. Furthermore, Specialised Information Services are increasingly involved in infrastructure-building for archiving and accessing research data. The examples presented in this article clearly demonstrate these developments. With regard to a nationally organized research data infrastructure, the Specialised Information Services are suitable and willing cooperation partners ideally positioned with close connections to both academic communities and infrastructures. As part of the German Research Foundation (DFG) – Collaborative Research Center 1187, "Media of Cooperation" at the University of Siegen in which cooperative practices are central, the Center for Information and Media Technology (ZIMT) focuses on the research supporting assistance for the individual researchers in the sub-projects dealing with their "research data – from production to long-term archiving". ZIMT has been supporting media research in particular at the university for years. The multifaceted examination of cooperative media in the CRC 1187 lead to a collection of large and heterogeneous data sets in highly contextual collaborative relationships that need to be managed, which is a major challenge for a sustainable research data management. For the researchers at the CRC Researchers supportive research data infrastructures are needed to be developed. The article shows various subject-specific and interdisciplinary requirements for research data management in the DFG-CRC 1187 (data, data analysis, tools, storage, etc.) and analyses them. The demand for a systematic research data management is increasing. Nevertheless, incentives to document data and research in order to improve reproducibility are clearly reduced for individual researchers. In this article we discuss data sharing and reproducible research with regard to the incentive scheme in academia and present two approaches of the ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics that support researchers in data sharing and the publication of replication studies. - Abstract
The heterogeneity of research data within the humanities inhibits a generic and centralized implementation of research data management. The working group Datenzentren within the "Digital Humanities im deutschsprachigen Raum" (DHd) association is a union of 22 research-related data centres that offer generic services and highly specialized research data management services for the humanities. The members of the working group have created a service catalogue as a central access point for all services provided by the group's members. The aim of the catalogue is to improve the discoverability of the centres and services, and to provide a more target-oriented research data management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study investigated the factors associated with Korean professors' intentions to openly share data. As Korea does not have an institutional or regulatory framework governing data sharing, understanding the motivations and/or concerns of a Korean faculty might not only provide policy guidance for data-sharing practices in Korea but also help academic libraries of this country develop data management services valuable for researchers. In particular, survey responses from 190 professors and follow-up interviews with eleven faculty members were analyzed and revealed that professors who were more willing to openly share data tended to agree with data reuse conditioned on easy access to others' data, to have altruistic reasons for data sharing and to be uncertain about repositories and the demand for their data. Professors who were less willing to make data publicly available tended to fear exploitation and to be interested in exchanging data for control of access to such data, for approval of the dissemination of results based on such data, and for co-authorship and collaboration opportunities. The study suggested that policies might be designed to incentivize data sharing by including supporting data citation, allowing data providers to control access to data, and considering ethical issues and various co-authorship practices. It also discussed implications of the findings for academic librarians. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Making decisions regarding data and the overall credibility of research constitutes research data governance. In this paper, we present results of an exploratory study of the stakeholders of research data governance. The study was conducted among individuals who work in academic and research institutions in the US, with the goal of understanding what entities are perceived as making decisions regarding data and who researchers believe should be responsible for governing research data. Our results show that there is considerable diversity and complexity across stakeholders, both in terms of who they are and their ideas about data governance. To account for this diversity, we propose to frame research data governance in the context of polycentric governance of a knowledge commons. We argue that approaching research data from the commons perspective will allow for a governance framework that can balance the goals of science and society, allow us to shift the discussion toward protection from enclosure and knowledge resilience, and help to ensure that multiple voices are included in all levels of decision-making.

- Abstract
The digitization of society results among other things in methodical changes in the Arts and Humanities, leading to reflection and discussion regarding new potential uses for digital research data and scientific collections. Within DARIAH-DE this subject - changing methodical and epistemological practices - has been discussed by the stakeholder committee for scientific collections. In the light of the spreading digitization of research the stakeholder committee commits itself to sharpen the self-conception of the Digital Humanities and the work of DARIAH-DE in the context of research data and scientific collections. LIBRARIES , *SCHOLARLY method , *INFORMATION overload , *PUBLISHING , *ACCURACY of information - Abstract
In a changing world, libraries have not only to keep in step with the developments but also to exert their influence as far as possible. Relevant developments congregate in the transformation of the library as a physical concept into a central learning and gathering place at the research campus, illustrating that the functional concept of a library is needed more than ever. As trusted advisers for the academia libraries can play a fundamental role in a time where more and more scholars are afraid of "information overload" and the definition of academic resources includes increasingly heterogeneous content types and new definitions of publishing. The new nature of tasks and content types ask for new services and new tools. The development and reliable maintenance of such services and tools are genuine tasks for libraries. RESEARCH , *DATA management - Abstract
The goal of RADAR is to simplify and establish inter-disciplinary research data management for university libraries and projects. In summer 2016? 'RADAR - Research Data Repository' starts as a service that offers researchers, institutions of different disciplines and publishers a generic infrastructure for archiving and publishing their research data. Among others, services are longterm data availability with Handle or Digital Object Identifier (DOI), an adaptable role and access rights management, an optional peer review function and access statistics. The business model encourages researchers to integrate arising charges for using the repository into applications for Third-Party funding and data management plans. Published data are available as Open Data to be used by Data Mining, metadata harvesting or linking with search portals. This interlinking enables a sustainable research data management and the establishment of data infrastructures like RADAR.

Researchers in Germany have nowadays access to confidential micro-data compiled from official statistics in a way that could not have been dreamt of just a few years ago. This article describes the new institutions that grant data access most importantly the research data centers located inside the data producing agencies and how to access the micro data, and presents information about selected recently released data sets with a high potential for scientific research and policy evaluation. Furthermore, we contrast the German situation with the Danish way of handling research access to confidential micro data. Finally, we take a look at ongoing projects that will further improve data access in Germany.
