Abstract: International audience; For the first time, a Zn1.1Ga1.8Ge0.1O4 transparent spinel ceramic has been fully densified by spark plasma sintering. XRD measurements show that this ceramic is composed of a pure cubic spinel phase. SEM analysis revealed a homogeneous and dense microstructure with the average grain size being 200 ± 100 nm. The transmittance of these fine-grained ceramics reached 70 % in the visible range and is very close to 80 % at 2 µm, thus close to the Tmax value deduced from the measurement of the refractive index. The ceramics exhibit excellent mechanical properties with a Young modulus of 222 GPa, a Vickers hardness of 14.25 GPa and a thermal conductivity of 7.3 W.m−1. K−1. By doping with Cr3+ ions, transparent Zn1.1Ga1.8Ge0.1O4 ceramics present both a red luminescence and a long-lasting afterglow during several minutes. Moreover, a near infrared broadband emission at 1.3 µm is also achieved with Ni2+ ions.

Abstract: International audience; The nucleation and crystallization of glass-ceramics are typically influenced by early phase separation, which can impact glass properties. However, it has been challenging to characterize the nanoscale phase separation and understand the nucleation mechanism of lithium disilicate (L2S) glass-ceramics, which has resulted in some controversy. Here, we raised the direct evidence of nanoscale clustering in the glassy phase prior to formal nucleation and crystallization by element distribution. Firstly, the amorphous Li3PO4 phase formed on the boundary between the phase separation area and residual glass matrix, and then nucleation tended to start on this phase boundary. Furthermore, the effect of phase-separation on nucleation and final crystallize products was illustrated. By sufficient phase-separation, the formation of desired Li2Si2O5 and LiAlSi4O10 microcrystals was effectively motivated, which is prerequisite for high mechanical properties and transparency. We hope this work provides guidance to rationally understand the early phase separation in glass for subsequent controlling crystallization.

Abstract: International audience; In the field of flash sintering, microwave energy represents an interesting way to densify ceramics complex shapes, thanks to a contactless volumetric heating. Attaining a fast and homogeneous heating is a critical parameter and hybrid heating, using silicon carbide susceptors, is generally used. In this study, an original multiple susceptors cascade strategy is developed, using both SiC and 3D-printed ZrO2 susceptors. This novel configuration follows perfectly the flash heating scheme, even for high heating rates up to 1000 K.min-1 and leads to a high stability of the "flash" hybrid heating. Flash microwave sintering produced dense (97% relative density) microstructures within 45 s. Based on comprehensive multiphysics simulations of the overall process, in-situ dilatometry measurements, kinetics method analysis and microstructural characterizations, this work highlights the sintering behavior of zirconia and the temperature distribution during flash microwave sintering.

Abstract: International audience; General interest in solvent-free catalytic processes is driven by the development of environmentally and economically acceptable procedures. Such processes require the use of highly active and stable catalysts. This study reports on the synthesis, characterization, and kinetic evaluation of two highly active Pd catalysts supported on different carbons support, i.e., multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNT) and few-layer graphene (FLG). These catalysts, with similar Pd loading (∼2 wt%) and containing both Pd single atoms (PdSA) and nanoparticles (PdNP), were systematically tested for solvent-free total hydrogenation of squalene (SQE) to obtain high-purity squalane (SQA). Thanks to the unique cooperative catalysis between PdSA and PdNP involving H-spillover, the activities of both catalysts were high compared to catalysts described in the literature. Solvent-free total hydrogenation of SQE could be performed under mild conditions (120 °C, 20 bar H2, 4 h) using ultralow Pd loading (60 ppm). However, since this reduction reaction is highly exothermic (ΔHR= − 765 kJ.mol−1), heat management during the reactor operation with these highly active catalysts is crucial to avoid deactivation and thermal runaway. Under these conditions, Pd/FLG was highly active but deactivated, unlike Pd/CNT, which still has high activity, but does not deactivate. Characterizations (ICP, XPS, Raman, TPD-MS, HAADF-STEM) of the Pd/FLG catalyst before and after reaction, supported by calculations based on density functional theory, allowed us to propose a new mechanism of catalyst deactivation involving the chemical reduction of specific surface oxygen groups of the carbon support induced by H-spillover.

Abstract: International audience; Weathering phenomena are ubiquitous in urban environments, where it is easy to observe severely degraded old buildings as a result of water penetration. Despite being an important part of any realistic city, this kind of phenomenon has received little attention from the Computer Graphics community compared to stains resulting from biological or flow effects on the building exteriors. In this paper, we present physically-inspired deep weathering effects, where the penetration of humidity (i.e., water particles) and its interaction with a building's internal structural elements result in large, visible degradation effects. Our implementation is based on a particle-based propagation model for humidity propagation, coupled with a spring-based interaction simulation that allows chemical interactions, like the formation of rust, to deform and destroy a building's inner structure. To illustrate our methodology, we show a collection of deep degradation effects applied to urban models involving the creation of rust or of ice within walls.

Abstract: International audience; Lanthanum oxysulfide (La2O2S) was investigated as infrared transparent ceramic to benefit from stronger chemical bonds and superior mechanical performances to that of non-oxide benchmark infrared materials. La2O2S ceramics were processed by hot-pressing powders prepared by combustion synthesis followed by a sulfurization treatment. Powders and ceramics were characterised through various techniques (XRD, UV-Vis-IR spectroscopy, particle size analysis, SEM, Impulse Excitation Technique, microhardness and fracture toughness tests) to assess their purity, study their microstructure and determine their optical and mechanical properties. The study reports the first IR transmission spectra, Poisson’s ratio, Young’s and shear moduli and fracture toughness values of La2O2S polycrystalline ceramics. The ceramics showed transparency in the 2-11 μm range and their mechanical performances were all superior to that of commercial infrared ceramics. The best transmission (89% of the theoretical transmission) was measured at 7.3 µm for 1 mm-thick ceramics hot-pressed at 1200-1250°C.

Abstract: National audience; Objectifs : Les médecines non conventionnelles ne sont pas dénuées de toxicité et il est pertinent d’établir un état des lieux des connaissances du grand public vis-à-vis des huiles essentielles. Il s’agit d’identifier le profil des victimes d’une intoxication, les voies d’administration et les symptômes ainsi que les huiles essentielles incriminées.Méthodes : Deux enquêtes, à destination du grand public et des professionnels de santé, ont été diffusées (janvier-mars 2019). En complément, les données du centre antipoison d’Angers sur la période 2017-2018 ont été analysées et comparées avec les données de notre enquête.Résultats : Nos enquêtes rassemblent 623 et 59 réponses. Les données du centre antipoison d’Angers recensent 741 intoxications. Les précautions d’emploi et les contre-indications des huiles essentielles sont peu connues puisque 5% des répondants les identifient correctement. Abstract: We study its controllability around the ground state when the linearized system is not controllable and wonder whether the quadratic term can help to recover the directions lost at the first order. More precisely, in this paper, we formulate assumptions under which the quadratic term induces a drift which prevents the small-time local controllability (STLC) of the system in appropriate spaces. For finite-dimensional systems, quadratic terms induce coercive drifts in the dynamic, quantified by integer negative Sobolev norms, along explicit Lie brackets which prevent STLC.In the context of the bilinear Schr{\"o}dinger equation, the first drift, quantified by the $H^{-1}$-norm of the control, was already observed and used to deny STLC with controls small in $L^\infty$. In this article, we improve this result by denying STLC with controls small in $W^{-1, \infty}$. Furthermore, for any positive integer $n$, we formulate assumptions under which one may observe a quadratic drift quantified by the $H^{-n}$-norm of the control and we use it to deny STLC in suitable spaces.

Abstract: International audience; We readdress the nature and creation mechanism of the defects absorbing at 4.7 eV in Swift Heavy Ion (SHI)-irradiated AlN semiconductor. Irradiations are performed in different controlled atmospheres (vacuum, oxygen, helium or argon partial pressure) to investigate the coupled effects of (i) the synergy between electronic excitations (Se) and nuclear collisions (Sn) for point defect creation and (ii) SHI-induced impurity introduction/diffusion into the AlN layer. We found that the synergy, previously reported, between Se and Sn for defect formation must also be related to the presence of oxygen during irradiation. At the same Se, the synergy parameter is indeed increased by up to two orders of magnitude during irradiation under O2 compared to irradiation under vacuum. By SHI irradiation and by a fine-tuning of the irradiation atmosphere, we then control the activation or inhibition of these light-emitted point defects (oxygen-vacancy complexes) which can be used as qubits for applications in quantum computing.

Abstract: This paper is devoted to the existence, uniqueness and comparison theorem on unbounded solutions of a scalar backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE) whose generator grows (with respect to both unknown variables $y$ and $z$) in a super-linear way like $|y||\ln |y||^{(\lambda+1/2)\wedge 1}+|z||\ln |z||^{\lambda}$ for some $\lambda\geq 0$. For the following four different ranges of the growth power parameter $\lambda$: $\lambda=0$, $\lambda\in (0,1/2)$, $\lambda=1/2$ and $\lambda>1/2$, we give reasonably weakest possible different integrability conditions of the terminal value for the existence of an unbounded solution to the BSDE. In the first two cases, they are stronger than the $L\ln L$-integrability and weaker than any $L^p$-integrability with $p>1$; in the third case, the integrability condition is just some $L^p$-integrability for $p>1$; and in the last case, the integrability condition is stronger than any $L^p$-integrability with $p>1$ and weaker than any $\exp(L^\epsilon)$-integrability with $\epsilon\in (0,1)$. Abstract: The second-order cone (SOC) is a class of simple convex cones and optimizing over them can be done more efficiently than with semidefinite programming. It is interesting both in theory and in practice to investigate which convex cones admit a representation using SOCs, given that they have a strong expressive ability. In this paper, we prove constructively that the cone of sums of nonnegative circuits (SONC) admits a SOC representation. Based on this, we give a new algorithm for unconstrained polynomial optimization via SOC programming. We also provide a hybrid numeric-symbolic scheme which combines the numerical procedure with a rounding-projection algorithm to obtain exact nonnegativity certificates. Abstract: The material extrusion process (MEX), also known as the fused filament fabrication process, has attracted attention in the manufacturing industry. A major obstacle to further application of the technology is the lack of mechanical strength due to the weak interlayer strength and poor coalescence between the adjacent beads. Understanding the effect of printing parameters on the coalescence of the adjacent beads is a step toward the improvement of the process. In this study, a novel two-phase flow numerical simulation approach coupled with heat transfer simulation has been applied to the high-viscosity polymers to determine the coalescence in the MEX process. The influence of printing temperature, substrate temperature, and the temperature of the printing chamber, as well as material deposition strategy (unidirectional and bidirectional) on the coalescence of the beads, has been investigated by numerical simulation and validated by experimental study. The modeling approach is applied to Glycerol, Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) and Polylactic acid (PLA). The results show that increasing temperature points (substrate temperature, chamber temperature, and printing temperature), increase the coalescence between the beads in the MEX process. The heat transfer model reveals that the cooling rate of the deposited bead in the MEX process is relatively high, and hence, the time window for reaching the coalescence between beads/layers is short. The heat transfer model also indicates that deposition of the further layers and beads does not influence the coalescence. The coalescence in the bidirectional deposition is higher compared to the unidirectional all conditions remaining similar. Unidirectional deposition leads to a uniform coalescence between the beads. However, the coalescence is not uniform for bidirectional deposition. The main novelty of this research is to simultaneously model heat transfer, shear rate and coalescence for numerical simulation to study the effect of printing parameters on the coalescence in the MEX process. Since the modeling of coalescence is time-consuming, two empirical equations based on obtained results have been proposed to predict the coalescence for PLA and PEEK separately. publishedVersion

Abstract: International audience; Despite the wide availability of large motion databases, and recent advances in exploiting them to create tailored contents, artists still spend tremendous efforts in editing and adapting existing character animations to new contexts. This motion editing problem is a well-addressed research topic. Yet only a few approaches have considered the influence of the camera angle, and the resulting visual features it yields, as a mean to control and warp a character animation. This paper proposes the design of viewpoint-dependent motion warping units that perform subtle updates on animations through the specification of visual motion features such as visibility, or spatial extent. We express the problem as a specific case of visual servoing, where the warping of a given character motion is regulated by a number of visual features to enforce. Results demonstrate the relevance of the approach for different motion editing tasks and its potential to empower virtual characters with attention-aware communication abilities.

Abstract: International audience; New investigations were carried out to demonstrate the ability of Trichoderma viride dead biomass for the bioremoval of Cr(VI) from aqueous solutions. The gathered experimental data were initially modelled considering both adsorption and reduction kinetic models, followed by equilibrium models. In the next step, Design of Experiments method (DoE) and a Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm were applied for determining the optimal Response Surface Methodology and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) models which are able to correlate the process efficiency with the experimental conditions. In addition, DE (in combination with the previously determined ANN) was used to obtain the optimal working conditions for maximum process efficiency. These optimization procedures allow setting various process parameters and working conditions which ensure the maximum bioremoval efficiency. DoE highlighted that all the study parameters have statistically significant individual influence on Cr(VI) bioremoval efficiency and, for example, at pH 2 and a temperature of 50 °C, 100% of Cr(VI) is bioremoved if the biosorbent dosage is 10 g/L, considering a minimum contact time of 2 h and given a maximum initial concentration of 122.5 mg/L. According to the ANN model, a contact time set at 24 h yields optimal values for Cr(VI) bioremoval by dead biomass considering pH 1.00, 3 g/L biosorbent dosage, 23 mg/L metallic ion concentration and a temperature of 50 °C. pHpzc, FT-IR and SEM-EDX analyses were included for biomass characterization and to underline the bioremoval mechanism of Cr(VI). Our results are providing a solid basis for the development of technologies for detoxification of contaminated effluents. © 2022 Institution of Chemical Engineers

Abstract: International audience; Gradient methods subject images to a series of operations to enhance some characteristics and facilitate image analysis, usually the contours of large objects. We argue that a gradient must show other characteristics, such as minor components and large uniform regions, particularly for the image segmentation task where subjective concepts such as region coherence and similarity are hard to interpret from the pixel information. This work extends the formalism of a previously proposed graph-based image gradient method that uses edge-weighted graphs aggregated with Random Forest (RF) to create descriptive gradients. We aim to explore more extensive input image areas and make changes driven by the RF mechanics. We evaluated the proposals on the edge and segmentation tasks, analyzing the gradient characteristics that most impacted the final segmentation. The experiments indicated that sharp thick contours are crucial, whereas fuzzy maps yielded the worst results even when created from deep methods with more precise edge maps. Also, we analyzed how uniform regions and small details impacted the final segmentation. Statistical analysis on the segmentation task demonstrated that the gradients created by the proposed are significantly better than most of the best edge maps methods and validated our original choices of attributes.

Abstract: International audience; Hypothesis: Due to their unique quantum yield and photostability performances, quantum nanoplatelets are very promising building blocks for future generations of displays. The directed assembly of such colloidal nano-objects in the shape of micro-pixels is thus the next mandatory step to reach this goal. Selectively trapping them on electrostatically charged patterns by nanoxerography could be a versatile and appealing strategy but requires a full understanding of the assembly mechanisms in order to make the most of their integration.Experiments: We propose an experimental platform based on a smart resealable microfluidic chip coupled to an inverted optical fluorescence microscope and a high-speed camera for in situ access of such assembly mechanisms, using CdSe/CdZnS quantum nanoplatelets as model nano-objects. The photoluminescence signal of the nanoplatelet patterns is thus recorded in real time during their assembly and data extracted after image processing.Findings: The coupling of experimental results and numerical simulations evidences the main role of advection at the origin of this directed nanoparticle trapping. Deep understanding of the involved mechanisms and tuning of experimental parameters allow to make high resolution quantum nanoplatelet based micro-pixels with a fine control of their lateral and vertical dimensions.

Abstract: International audience; On-chip study of blood flow has emerged as a powerful tool to assess the contribution of each component of blood to its overall function. Blood has indeed many functions, from gas and nutrient transport to immune response and thermal regulation. Red blood cells play a central role therein, in particular through their specific mechanical properties, that directly influence pressure regulation, oxygen perfusion, or platelet and white cells segregation towards endothelial walls. As the bloom of in-vitro studies has led to the apparition of various storage and sample preparation protocols, we address the question of the robustness of the results involving cell mechanical behavior against this diversity. The effects of three conservation media (EDTA, citrate and glucose-albumin-sodium-phosphate) and storage time on the red blood cell mechanical behavior are assessed under different flow conditions: cell deformability by ektacytometry, shape recovery of cells flowing out of a microfluidic constriction, and cell flipping dynamics under shear flow. The impact of buffer solutions (phosphate-buffered saline and density-matched suspension using iodixanol/Optiprep) are also studied by investigating individual cell flipping dynamics, relative viscosity of cell suspensions and cell structuration under Poiseuille flow. Our results reveal that storing blood samples up to seven days after withdrawal and suspending them in adequate density-matched buffer solutions has in most experiments a moderate effect on the overall mechanical response, with a possible rapid evolution in the first three days after sample collection. SIGNIFICANCE Blood is in intimate contact with all organs in the body, supplying oxygen, nutrients and drugs while removing waste. It carries cells involved in immune response, wound repair and tumor dissemination. Blood is easily collected, revealing the presence of disease through biomarker analysis. It is storable and transfusable. Thus, blood is the subject of many in-vitro studies for research and medical purposes. Guidelines associated to sample preparation or storage conditions have been established, but these may affect its mechanical behavior. In this collaborative study, we provide new guidelines to minimize the impact of specific experimental requirements (e.g. density matching, blood freshness) by focusing on the single or collective motion of red blood cells in a large range of flow conditions.

Abstract: International audience; Wastewater from the Antibiotical-Saidal pharmaceutical plant (Medéa) was pretreated by coagulation-flocculation using copper sulfate (CuSO4), iron chloride (FeCl3), and mixture of the two salts combined in a 1:1 (v/v) ratio in the present study. Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to optimize pH and coagulant dosage as independent variables, while dissolved organic carbon (DOC), absorbance at 254 nm (UV 254), and turbidity were provided as dependent variables in the central composite design (CCD). Then, the databases of the three treatments were combined in a single database to create a general model valid for the three treatments at the same time, and to predict the reduction rates of DOC, UV254, and turbidity, using the Gaussian process regression coupled with the dragonfly optimization algorithm (GPR-DA). To have the best model obtained between RMS and GPR-DA, an experimental validation was carried out after having had the optimal conditions of each type of coagulant, using the multi-objective optimization technique. The results of the experimental validation show the superiority of the GPR-DA model compared to the RSM model. Also, the results show that the mixed coagulant (CuSO4 + FeCl3) obtain better results than CuSO4 or FeCl3 alone with a treatment efficiency equal to 92.68% at pH = 5 and dosage = 600 mg/L, and the reductions in DOC, UV 254 and turbidity are 97.32%, 82.90% and 96.47%, respectively. © 2022 The Institution of Chemical Engineers

Abstract: International audience; We discuss controller designs for asymmetric saturated discrete-time linear systems. Under the assumption that a locally stabilizing controller of the origin is known, we augment the original controller with an additional term that vanishes in a neighborhood of the origin. The augmented controller outperforms the original controller in terms of the estimate of the region of attraction. The paper translates the results discussed in Braun et al. (2022a,b), from the continuous-time setting to the discrete-time setting, and numerically verifies that the results derived for continuous-time systems are recovered if the discrete-time system is obtained through an Euler discretization of a continuous-time system with a sufficiently small sampling rate.

Abstract: International audience; Hole making on stacked aerospace materials is a major operation during aircraft assembly which poses significant challenges during manufacturing because of different material machinability. Strategies involving smart machining including adapting proper cutting conditions using real time monitoring can lead to significant improvements. This paper is a continuation of our research that uses data map methodology characterized by different specific force regions for workpiece material identification. In this article, spindle power is monitored utilizing CNC machine internal sensor during helical milling of Aluminium and Titanium alloys in a aerospace stack for estimating cutting coefficients. Our previous research addressed the material detection in circular milling of Aluminium and Titanium alloys independently using a force dynamometer. Abstract: International audience; This paper studies the nonlinear systems obtained by considering a wave equation in closed loop with a nonlinear dynamical boundary controller. The controller is subject to a magnitude limitation and modeled by a linear ordinary differential equation with a saturation map in the input. The well-posedness of the obtained infinite-dimensional system is first studied and then two stability results are given. These two stability results apply for two cascade cases and give sufficient conditions for the asymptotic stability of the equilibrium. The well-posedness is proven by using nonlinear semigroups techniques, whereas the global asymptotic stability results are obtained by Lyapunov-based arguments in infinite-dimensional state space.

Abstract: In recent years, fluorescence imaging-relying both on parathyroid gland autofluorescence under near-infrared light and angiography using the fluorescent dye indocyanine green-has been used to reduce risk of iatrogenic parathyroid injury during thyroid and parathyroid resections, but no published guidelines exist regarding its use. In this study, orchestrated by the International Society for Fluorescence Guided Surgery, areas of consensus and nonconsensus were examined among international experts to facilitate future drafting of such guidelines.A 2-round, online Delphi survey was conducted of 10 international experts in fluorescence imaging use during endocrine surgery, asking them to vote on 75 statements divided into 5 modules: 1 = patient preparation and contraindications to fluorescence imaging (n = 11 statements); 2 = technical logistics (n = 16); 3 = indications (n = 21); 4 = potential advantages and disadvantages of fluorescence imaging (n = 20); and 5 = training and research (n = 7). Several methodological steps were taken to minimize voter bias.Overall, parathyroid autofluorescence was considered better than indocyanine green angiography for localizing parathyroid glands, whereas indocyanine green angiography was deemed superior assessing parathyroid perfusion. Additional surgical scenarios where indocyanine green angiography was thought to facilitate surgery are (1) when1 parathyroid gland requires resection; (2) during redo surgeries, (3) facilitating parathyroid autoimplantation; and (4) for the predissection visualization of abnormal glands. Both parathyroid autofluorescence and indocyanine green angiography can be used during the same procedure and employing the same imaging equipment. However, further research is needed to optimize the dose and timing of indocyanine green administration.Though further research remains necessary, using fluorescence imaging appears to have uses during thyroid and parathyroid surgery.

We prove the existence of a Lipschitz function $s^\infty$ of the unit sphere, such that $u(t,x)$ converges uniformly in $\mathbb{R}^N$, as $t$ goes to infinity, to $U_{c_*}\bigg(|x|-c_*t + \frac{N-1}{c_*} \mathrm{ln}t + s^\infty\Big(\frac{x}{|x|}\Big)\bigg)$, where $U_{c*}$ is the unique 1D travelling profile. This extends earlier results that identified the locations of the level sets of the solutions with $o_{t\to+\infty}(t)$ precision, or identified precisely the level sets locations for almost radial initial data.

Abstract: International audience; The ability of cancer cells to develop resistance to anti-cancer drugs, known as multidrug resistance, remains a major cause of tumor recurrence and cancer metastasis. This work explores the double mechanism of toxicity of (D, L-lactide-co-glycolide) acid (PLGA) nanoparticles encapsulating a molybdenum cluster compound, namely Cs(2)[{Mo(6)I(8)}(OOCC(2)F(5))(6)] (CMIF). Hemocompatibility and biocompatibility assays show the safe potential of CMIF loaded nanoparticles (CNPs) as delivery systems intended for tumor targeting for PDT of ovarian cancer with a slight hemolytic activity and a lack of toxicity up to 50 µM CMIF concentration. Cellular uptake shows a preferential uptake of CNPs in lysosomes, which is not interfering with CMIF activity. The double mechanism of CNPs consists in a production of ROS and a DNA damage activity, from 5 µM and 0.5 µM respectively (CMIF concentration). The cellular death mechanism comprises 80% of necrosis and 20% of direct apoptosis by direct DNA damages. This work confirms CMIF loaded PLGA nanoparticles as an efficient and relevant delivery system for PDT.

Abstract: International audience; Ammonia, a carbon-free source of hydrogen has recently gained considerable attention as energy solution towards a green future. Previous works have shown that adding 30VOL.% hydrogen with ammonia can eradicate the drawbacks of pure ammonia combustion but no study in the literature has investigated this blend across a wide range of equivalence ratios. The present work investigates 70/30VOL.% NH3/H2 blend from 0.55 ≤ Φ ≤ 1.4 for both premixed laminar spherically expanding flames and turbulent swirling flames at atmospheric conditions. A detailed chemistry analysis has been conducted in Ansys CHEMKIN-PRO platform using a chemical reactor network (CRN) model to simulate the swirling turbulent flames. NO and NO2 emissions have followed similar bell-shaped trends, peaking at around Φ = 0.8, while N2O emission rises at lean conditions (Φ ≤ 0.7). The results indicate that Φ = 1.2 is the optimum equivalence ratio with reduced NOX emissions and some ammonia slip.

Abstract: In this work, we adapt the {\em micro-macro} methodology to stochastic differential equations for the purpose of numerically solving oscillatory evolution equations. The models we consider are addressed in a wide spectrum of regimes where oscillations may be slow or fast. We show that through an ad-hoc transformation (the micro-macro decomposition), it is possible to retain the usual orders of convergence of Euler-Maruyama method, that is to say, uniform weak order one and uniform strong order one half. We also show that the same orders of uniform accuracy can be achieved by a simple integral scheme. The advantage of the micro-macro scheme is that, in contrast to the integral scheme, it can be generalized to higher order methods.

Abstract: In this study tool life experiments were performed on Inconel 718 (IN718) alloy. The Inconel 718 samples were produced by conventional Cast and Wrought (C&W) and by Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) techniques like Selective Laser Melting (SLM). The as-built SLM samples which were subjected to only Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) are labeled as SLM HIP and both Hot Isostatic Pressing and Aeronautic Heat Treatment are labeled as SLM HIP-AHT. The tool life machining tests were performed using PVD coated carbide insert under emulsion conditions. The surface integrity parameters such as surface roughness, residual stresses, and microhardness were evaluated. The wear mechanisms on the rake and flank faces of the PVD insert were characterized. It's deduced that notch and flank wear near the depth of the cutting zone were the predominant failure mode affecting the tool life. The age-hardened microstructural features of C&W and HIP heat-treated SLM samples have a negative impact on the tool life. Whereas the microstructure obtained by the SLM HIP-AHT sample indeed played an important role by exhibiting 26 % more tool life than SLM HIP samples and 79 % more tool life than the C&W sample.

Abstract: International audience; This work investigates the capacity of a foam flow to clean stainless-steel surfaces con-taminated by bacterial biofilms. Three bacterial strains ( Escherichia coli SS2, Bacillus cereus 98/4, and Pseudomonas fluorescens Pf1) were grown for 24 h in a horizontal po-sition. Wet foam (liquid fraction of 0.5) using Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) at 0.15 % W/W circulated through square stainless-steel ducts at different flow rates. By increasing the wall shear stress, a cleaning efficiency was observed of up to a 2.1 and 1.4 log reduction in the surface contamination for both of the two highly adherent biofilms tested, namely B. cereus and P. fluorescens compared to E. coli biofilms being totally removed. Whatever the bacterial strain and the flow condition, foam flow was more efficient in detaching biofilm than the related SDS solution without foam. A Life Cycle Assessment study was per-formed to investigate the environmental impacts of the foam cleaning. Significant en-vironmental impact benefits were observed, with a drastic reduction in water and energy consumption when compared to different no-foam in place cleaning conditions (SDS or NaOH at 60 degrees C).(c) 2022 Published by Elsevier Ltd on behalf of Institution of Chemical Engineers.

Abstract: International audience; In our previous work, macroscopic models for multi-species diffusion/heterogeneous reaction with different diffusion coefficients in porous media were derived from the homogenization technique based on a spectral approach ( Le et al. , Applied Mathematical Modelling, 104 , 666-681, 2022 ). This work aims to analyze numerically the properties of the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the spectral problem, the solution of the closure problems and the effective coefficients as a function of key parameters such as the Damkohler number, the ratios of the reaction rates and diffusion coefficients. This provides in-depth understanding of the role of the coefficients involved in the macroscopic models in the whole range of the Damkohler number. Simulation results of the macroscopic equations are compared with direct numerical simulations in unsteady regime, showing a very satisfactory agreement and thus numerically validating the proposed models. Abstract: International audience; In this work, we propose an optimization scheme based on a multi-objective Genetic Algorithm (GA) for the design of orthogonal filter banks for speech compression. A parameterization is adopted to assure that the resulting filter banks satisfy perfect reconstruction and have at least two vanishing moments. We search for a parameter set that optimizes the coding gain and the frequency selectivity. As the objectives are conflicting, we investigate the solution that realizes the best compromise between the objectives criteria using the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGAIII). Experimental results have shown that the optimized filter banks provide a significant gain in coding performances when comparing with the Daubechies orthogonal filter banks for test speech signals.

Abstract: Structure from motion (SfM) enables us to reconstruct a scene via casual capture from cameras at different viewpoints, and novel view synthesis (NVS) allows us to render a captured scene from a new viewpoint. Both are hard with casual capture and dynamic scenes: SfM produces noisy and spatio-temporally sparse reconstructed point clouds, resulting in NVS with spatio-temporally inconsistent effects. We consider SfM and NVS parts together to ease the challenge. First, for SfM, we recover stable camera poses, then we defer the requirement for temporally-consistent points across the scene and reconstruct only a sparse point cloud per timestep that is noisy in space-time. Second, for NVS, we present a variational diffusion formulation on depths and colors that lets us robustly cope with the noise by enforcing spatio-temporal consistency via per-pixel reprojection weights derived from the input views. Together, this deferred approach generates novel views for dynamic scenes without requiring challenging spatio-temporally consistent reconstructions nor training complex models on large datasets. Abstract: International audience; Background: World population growth, climate change, food distribution and the current pandemic are some of the main factors that affect food security. Traditional farming techniques, although a vital lifeline for our survival, are increasingly generating large amounts of harmful greenhouse emissions as the global population expands significantly. It is essential, therefore, to investigate alternative methods to supplement current food sources. In late 2020, Singapore issued the first-ever approval for cultured meat to be used as an ingredient for new consumable products that will soon be available in the market. This is potentially the beginning of a new transformation for supplementing our future food system. Scope and approach: In this article, we highlight the progress that is taking place in the area of alternative protein, cultured meat and nutrition. We provide an assessment of the global situation, and discuss current research, industrial and governmental efforts to tackle the impending worldwide food crisis. We also survey the companies and start-ups working in the field (over 170 worldwide), their particular activity within the field and their sources of funding. Key findings and conclusions: Our findings indicate that there is a nascent global interest in alternative protein, cultured meat and nutrition with a disclosed investment of over US$4.4 billion, with a range of potential products covering almost the entire food system. However, the field is still premature and is faced with concerns from religious, safety and taste/texture viewpoints. Our article addresses some of these concerns, and highlights the timely importance to further transform the growing cellular agricultural field with multidisciplinary research, such as integrating systems biology with machine learning, to generate high technology-low cost derived future food.

In a second part we study attraction or repulsion between these critical points. A measure is the correlation function.We prove attraction between critical points when $N>2$, neutrality for $N=2$ and repulsion for $N=1$.The attraction between critical points that occurs when the dimension is greater than two is due to critical points with adjacent indexes.A strong repulsion between maxima and minima is proved. The correlation function between maxima (or minima) depends on the dimension of the ambient space.

Abstract: International audience; Plastic environmental pollution is a major issue that our generation must face to protect our planet. Plastic recycling has the potential not only to reduce the pollution but also to limit the need for fossil-fuel-based production of new plastics. Enzymes capable of breaking down plastic could thereby support such a circular economy. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) degrading enzymes have recently attracted considerable interest and have been subjected to intensive enzyme engineering to improve their characteristics. A quadruple mutant of Leaf-branch Compost Cutinase (LCC) was identified as a most efficient and promising enzyme. Here, we use NMR to follow the initial LCC enzyme through its different mutations that lead to its improved performance. We experimentally define the two calcium-binding sites and show their importance on the all-or-nothing thermal unfolding process, which occurs at a temperature of 72°C close to the PET glass transition temperature. Using various NMR probes such as backbone amide, methyl group, and histidine side-chain resonances, we probe the interaction of the enzymes with mono-(2-hydroxyethyl)terephthalic acid. The latter experiments are interpreted in terms of accessibility of the active site to the polymer chain.

Abstract: International audience; The ever-growing depth and width of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) drastically increases the number of their parameters and requires more powerful devices to train and deploy. In this paper, we propose a new architecture that outperforms the classical linear convolution function by expanding the latter to a higher degree kernel function without additional weights. We opt for Taylor Series Kernel which maps input data to a higher-dimensional Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Space (RKHS). Mapping features to a higher-order RKHS is performed in both implicit and explicit ways. For the former way, we compute several polynomial kernels of different degrees leveraging the kernel trick. Whereas, the latter way is achieved by concatenating the result of these polynomial kernels. The proposed Taylor Series Kernelized Convolution (TSKC) is able to learn more complex patterns than the linear convolution kernel and thus be more discriminative. The experiments conducted on Facial Expression Recognition (FER) datasets demonstrate that TSKC outperforms the ordinary convolution layer without additional parameters.

Abstract: International audience; The first demonstration of a nanoscaled titanium zirconium nitride (TiZrN2) single-phase isolated during the preparation of polymer-derived silicon nitride (Si3N4) matrix nanocomposites is discussed. We employed a polysilazane, which was chemically modified with Zr[N(CH2CH3)2]4 and Ti[N(CH3)2]4 then ammonolyzed before a pyrolysis step under ammonia (1000 °C) and a heat-treatment in flowing nitrogen (1000–1700 °C). Based on a careful control of the precursor chemistry in the early stage of the process and nano-/microstructural investigations of the material performed during its preparation, we were able to identify TiZrN2 nanocrystals with a size as low as 9 nm distributed in α- and β-Si3N4 phases at a temperature as low as 1500 °C. We particularly proved that the TiZrN2 nanophase could be generated because of the use of the polysilazane evoluting towards a covalently-bonded Si3N4 matrix . This unique nanostructure is expected to provide particular functionality to Si3N4 as noble metal-free catalysts and components with high plasmonic quality.

Abstract: International audience; Carcinoid heart disease is a rare condition affecting mostly tricuspid and pulmonary valves causing right-sided heart failure. Surgical valve replacement is the mainstay of treatment when patients become symptomatic and/or in the presence of right heart remodeling. We present a case of severe pulmonary valve regurgitation secondary to carcinoid heart disease occurring 4 years after a surgical tricuspid replacement, successfully treated with direct transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation without pre-stenting.

Abstract: International audience; In many environments, connected devices are exposed to and must choose between multiple Wi-Fi networks. However, the procedure for selecting an access point is still based on simple criteria that consider the device to be unique in the network. In particular, the network load is not taken into account even though it is a key parameter for the quality of service and experience. In this paper, we investigate how an unmodified vanilla device could estimate the load of a network in the user space with no interventions from the access points. In this regard, we propose a novel and practical method, FAM (Frame Aggregation based Method). It leverages the frame aggregation mechanism introduced in recent IEEE 802.11 amendments to estimate the network load through its channel busy time fraction. FAM combines an active probing technique to measure the actual packet aggregation and Markovian models that provide the expected rate as a function of the volume and nature of the traffic on the network. We validate the effectiveness of FAM against both ns-3 simulations and test-bed experiments under several scenarios. Results show that our method FAM is able to infer the network load with a granularity based on six different levels of network loads for the considered scenarios.

Abstract: Background: Pathological Q waves are correlated with infarct size, and Q-wave regression is associated with left ventricular ejection fraction improvement. There are limited data regarding the association of Q-wave regression and clinical outcomes. Our main objective was to assess the association of pathological Q wave evolution after re-perfusion with clinical outcomes after anterior STEMI.Methods: Standard 12-lead electrocardiograms (ECGs) were recorded in 780 anterior STEMI patients treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) from the CIRCUS trial. ECGs were recorded before and 90 min following PCI, as well as at hospitalization discharge and 12 months of follow-up. The number of classic ECG criteria Q waves was scored for each ECG. Patients were classified in the Q wave regression group if they had re-gression of at least one Q wave between the post-PCI, the discharge and/or one year ECGs. Patients were classified in the Q wave persistent group if they had the same number or greater between the post-PCI, the discharge and/ or 1 and one year ECGs. All-cause death and heart failure events were assessed for all patients at one year.Results: There were 323(43%) patients with persistent Q waves (PQ group), 378(49%) patients with Q wave re-gression (RQ group) and 60(8%) patients with non-Q wave MI (NQ group). Infarct size as measured by the peak creatine kinase was significantly greater in the PQ group compared to the RQ and NQ groups (4633 +/- 2784 IU/l vs. 3814 +/- 2595 IU/l vs. 1733 +/- 1583 IU/l respectively, p b 0.0001). At one year, there were 22 deaths (7%) in the PQ-group, 15 (4%) in the RQ-group and none in the NQ-group (p = 0.04). There was a 4-fold increase in the risk of death or heart failure in the PQ compared to the NQ group (HR 4.7 [1.1; 19.3]; p = 0.03), but there was no significant difference between NQ and RQ groups (HR 3.3 [0.8; 13.8]; p = 0.09).Conclusion: Ina population of anterior STEMI patients, persistent Q waves defined according to the classic ECG criteria after reperfusion was associated with a 4-fold increase in the risk of heart failure or death compared to non-Q-wave MI, while Q-wave regression was associated with significantly lower risk of events.(c) 2019 Elsevier Inc. Abstract: Patients factors in addition to radiological characteristics could predict the presence of pathologic venous invasion in patients undergoing pancreatectomy with venous resection.We tested the predictive value of 6 radiological classification methods for predicting pathologic venous invasion-the Nakao, Ishikawa, MD Anderson, Lu, Raptopoulos, and National Comprehensive Cancer Network methods-on a cohort of 198 pancreatectomies (160 pancreaticoduodenectomies and 38 total pancreatectomies) with venous resection for pancreatic adenocarcinomas. Radiological and clinical factors determining pathologic venous invasion were identified by multivariable logistic analysis.Pathologic venous invasion was detected in 124 patients (63.2%). The multivariable logistic regression analysis identified Lu classification (odds ratio = 1.77, 95% confidence interval =1.34-2.35; P.0001), elevated serum CA19-9 values (odds ratio = 1.97, 95% confidence interval = 1.00-3.90; P = .04), and preoperative neoadjuvant chemotherapy (odds ratio = 0.38, 95% confidence interval = 0.18-0.79; P = .009) as independent factors associated with pathologic venous invasion. Radiological tumor-vessel contact greater than 50% of the circumference or venous wall deformity was associated with a significantly higher rate of pathological venous invasion (80% vs 52%; P.0001), deeper (media-intima) venous invasion (47% vs 25%; P.0001), R1 resection (58% vs 41%; P = .03), higher transfusions (84% vs 66%; P = .005), and arterial resection rates (43% vs 27%; P.0001). Tumor-vein circumference contact of50% and/or venous wall deformity was still associated with significantly higher rates of pathologic venous invasion, regardless of whether neoadjuvant chemotherapy was used or not and CA19-9 normalized or not under preoperative treatment.Preoperative radiological detection of tumor-vein circumference contact50% and/or venous wall deformity is associated with up to 80% of cases of pathological venous invasion. The combination of radiologic features with biological (CA19-9) and clinical (presence of preoperative chemotherapy) factors could better refine preoperatively the need for venous resection.

Abstract: International audience; Porous bioglass monoliths have been processed by hydrothermal hot pressing (HyHP) from sol-gel and melt-derived bioglass powders of composition (in mol %): SiO2–CaO–P2O5 (55.0-40.0-5.0) and SiO2–CaO–Na2O–P2O5 (47.2-26.4-23.8-2.6), respectively. An open porosity of >70% ever reached in 3D structures is reported for monoliths issued from sol-gel powders. Dissolution studies were performed in simulated body fluid (SBF) for 1–30 days. The monoliths were analysed using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) spectroscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) to observe the formation of an apatite-like layer and elemental concentration of SBF was evaluated using Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES). A higher kinetics in the development of apatite layer was observed for sol-gel derived monoliths. This result is explained by the high surface areas of the nanosized sol-gel powders and the possibility of HyHP to create large porosity (mesoporous monoliths) and retain large surface areas. HyHP is also effective in processing 3D-bioglass structures with porosity gradient by co-sintering powders of different size.

Abstract: International audience; To capture the real-world luminance values, High Dynamic Range (HDR) image processing has been developed. HDR images have a richer content than the widely-used Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) images, and are used in a number of situations, e.g. in film industry. As HDR displays are more and more commercially available, we need to be able to process HDR images as well as SDR ones (for example, devising denoising algorithms, inpainting or anti-aliasing). The most powerful methods to process images are now deep neural networks. However, the training of such networks calls for a lot of images, and HDR images datasets are relatively small.One way to generate HDR images is inverse tone mapping operators (iTMOs). They are algorithms that expand the dynamic range of SDR images. In this paper, we propose HDR-LFNet, a novel iTMO, and its HDR training dataset. Our method merges several existing handcrafted iTMOs, combined in a supervised neural network to produce an HDR output. Our lightweight network requires less training images than state-of-the-art methods, and has faster training phase. Besides, the quality of the generated images is similar to the state-of-the-art. We present the architecture as well as the subjective and experimental evaluations of our method.

Abstract: International audience; The relational database SOWELL was created to better understand the behaviour and individual responses of gestating sows facing different short-term events induced: a competitive situation for feed, hot and cold thermal conditions, a sound event, an enrichment (straw, ropes and bags available) and an impoverishment (no straw, no objects) of the pen. The data were collected on 102 crossbred sows equipped with activity sensors, group-housed in video-recorded pens (16–18 sows per pen), with access to automatons. Feeding and drinking behaviours were extracted from the electronic feeders and drinkers’ recordings. Social behaviours, physical activities and locations in the pen were recorded thanks to manual video analysis labelling at the individual scale. Accelerometer fixed on the sows’ ears also recorded individual physical activities. The physical activity was also determined at a group scale by automatic video analysis using deep learning techniques. BWs, back fat thickness, and body condition (cleanliness, body damages) were recorded weekly during the whole gestation. Last gestation room data regarding environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, noise level) were recorded using automatic sensors. The database can fulfil different research purposes, namely sows’ nutrition for example to better calculate the energy requirements regarding environmental factors, or also on welfare or health during gestation by providing indicators.

Abstract: International audience; A B S T R A C TIn recent years, Machine Learning approaches (ML) have shown promising results in addressing many tasks inmedical image analysis. In particular, the analysis of Bone Metastases (BM) has attracted considerable interestfrom both the medical and computer vision communities due to its critical and challenging aspect. Despitethe research efforts, the detection of BM is still an open problem, mainly due to the lack of available datasets.This is due to two main obstacles: (i) the enormous time required for data collection and annotation, and(ii) privacy constraints. To overcome these challenges, we propose BM-Seg, a new dataset for segmenting BMfrom CT-scans. Our BM-Seg dataset consists of 1517 CT images from 23 patients where BM and bone regionswere labeled by three radiologists. BM-Seg is constructed to cover the diversity of bone metastases in termsof location, organ and severity.We also propose a new CNN-based approach to segmentation of BM, presenting two main contributions.First, we introduce Hybrid-AttUnet++, a new Unet++ derived architecture with dual decoders that performssegmentation of BM and bone regions simultaneously. Second, we use an ensemble of trained HybridAttUnet++ models (EH-AttUnet++) to optimize segmentation performance. Our experiments show that theEH-AttUnet++ architecture achieves better performance compared to state-of-the-art approaches for variousevaluation metrics. The purpose of this work is to provide a benchmark dataset with new state-of-the-artperformance in bone metastasis segmentation. This will facilitate further research in this area and help to putautomatic detection and segmentation of bone metastases into practice.

Abstract: Alcohol acts as an addictive substance that may lead to alcohol use disorder. In humans, magnetic resonance imaging showed diverse structural and functional brain alterations associated with this complex pathology. Single magnetic resonance imaging modalities are used mostly but are insufficient to portray and understand the broad neuroadaptations to alcohol. Here, we combined structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging and connectome mapping in mice to establish brain-wide fingerprints of alcohol effects with translatable potential.Mice underwent a chronic intermittent alcohol drinking protocol for 6 weeks before being imaged under medetomidine anesthesia. We performed open-ended multivariate analysis of structural data and functional connectivity mapping on the same subjects.Structural analysis showed alcohol effects for the prefrontal cortex/anterior insula, hippocampus, and somatosensory cortex. Integration with microglia histology revealed distinct alcohol signatures, suggestive of advanced (prefrontal cortex/anterior insula, somatosensory cortex) and early (hippocampus) inflammation. Functional analysis showed major alterations of insula, ventral tegmental area, and retrosplenial cortex connectivity, impacting communication patterns for salience (insula), reward (ventral tegmental area), and default mode (retrosplenial cortex) networks. The insula appeared as a most sensitive brain center across structural and functional analyses.This study demonstrates alcohol effects in mice, which possibly underlie lower top-down control and impaired hedonic balance documented at the behavioral level, and aligns with neuroimaging findings in humans despite the potential limitation induced by medetomidine sedation. This study paves the way to identify further biomarkers and to probe neurobiological mechanisms of alcohol effects using genetic and pharmacological manipulations in mouse models of alcohol drinking and dependence.
