Background. Ectodysplasin A (EDA), a member of the TNF family, plays important roles in ectodermal development, while recent studies expanded its regulatory effects on insulin resistance and lipid metabolism. This study was the first time to investigate the correlation between circulating EDA and albuminuria in patients with T2DM. Methods. A total of 189 T2DM and 59 healthy subjects were enrolled in the study. We analyzed the concentrations of EDA by ELISA. Plasma glucose, insulin, HbA1c, lipids, creatinine, BUN, and UACR were also measured. Insulin resistance and pancreatic cell function were assessed by HOMA. Results. Circulating EDA concentration was significantly increased in T2DM patients and increased with the degree of albuminuria. EDA was positively correlated with age, FIns, HOMA-IR, HOMA-β, Scr, and UACR, and negatively correlated with eGFR. Linear stepwise regression showed that FIns, HOMA-β, and UACR were independent influencing factors of EDA. Logistic regression analysis showed that EDA was independently associated with the occurrence of albuminuria in T2DM. ROC curve showed that EDA had an area under the receiver operating curve of 0.701 [ 95 % CI = 0.625 − 0.777 , P < 0.001 ]. Conclusion. EDA is positively correlated with the degree of albuminuria in patients with T2DM and may be involved in the occurrence and progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD).

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is caused by repeated blockage of the upper respiratory airways during sleep. The traditional evaluation methods for OSA severity are yet limited. This study aimed to screen gene signatures to effectively evaluate OSA severity. Expression profiles of peripheral blood mononuclear cells in the different severities of OSA patients were accessed from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. A total of 446 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened among the varying severities of OSA samples by analysis of variance (ANOVA) test. A total of 1,152 DEGs were screened between the pre- and post-treatment OSA samples by using t test. Overlap of the two groups of DEGs was selected (88 DEGs) for Metascape enrichment analysis. Afterwards, Mfuzz package was used to perform soft clustering analysis on these 88 genes, by which 6 clusters were obtained. It was observed that the gene expression condition of the cluster 3 was positively associated with OSA severity degree; also, the gene expression condition in cluster 4 was negatively correlated with OSA severity. A total of 10 gene markers related to OSA progression were selected from cluster 3 and cluster 4. Their expression levels and correlation were analyzed. The marker genes in cluster 3 and cluster 4 were examined, finding that most genes were significantly correlated with apnea hypopnea index (AHI). An accurate and objective assessment of the severity of OSA is of great significance for formulating follow-up treatment strategies for patients with OSA. In this paper, a set of marker genes that can detect the severity of OSA were screened by bioinformatics methods, which could be jointly used with the traditional OSA diagnostic index to achieve a more reliable OSA severity evaluation.

3D face reconstruction has witnessed considerable progress in recovering 3D face shapes and textures from in-the-wild images. However, due to a lack of texture detail information, the reconstructed shape and texture based on deep learning could not be used to re-render a photorealistic facial image since it does not work in harmony with weak supervision only from the spatial domain. In the paper, we propose a method of spatio-frequency decoupled weak-supervision for face reconstruction, which applies the losses from not only the spatial domain but also the frequency domain to learn the reconstruction process that approaches photorealistic effect based on the output shape and texture. In detail, the spatial domain losses cover image-level and perceptual-level supervision. Moreover, the frequency domain information is separated from the input and rendered images, respectively, and is then used to build the frequency-based loss. In particular, we devise a spectrum-wise weighted Wing loss to implement balanced attention on different spectrums. Through the spatio-frequency decoupled weak-supervision, the reconstruction process can be learned in harmony and generate detailed texture and high-quality shape only with labels of landmarks. The experiments on several benchmarks show that our method can generate high-quality results and outperform state-of-the-art methods in qualitative and quantitative comparisons.

While nursing courses provide a convenient and quick way to learn, they can also be overloaded with resources that can cause learners to become cognitively disoriented or have difficulty choosing nursing course. This paper proposes to fully explore learners’ interests in the case of sparse data by fusing knowledge graph technology and deep recommendation models and adopt knowledge graph to model nursing courses at the semantic level so as to correspond the set of nursing courses to the knowledge graph and solve the problem of lack of logical knowledge relationships. Due to the specificity of its positions, the nursing profession must accurately position the nursing professional curriculum standards in the process of determining the talent cultivation model based on the nursing professional positions and the admission requirements for nursing practice qualification. Through linear feature mining based on the knowledge graph, entities and relationships are used to intuitively display the interest paths of nursing professional learners and enhance the interpretability of recommendations.

Slope stability has been a key issue in the field of geotechnical engineering. Determining the potential sliding surface of a slope is an important link in evaluating the stability of the slope. For rock slope with embedded structural plane, the potential sliding surface is greatly affected by the embedded structural plane. When determining the potential sliding surface, the influence of the position of the embedded structural plane should be considered. According to the distribution characteristics of the embedded structural plane of the rock slope, the structural plane in rock slope is divided into two types: (1) front embedded and (2) rear embedded structural plane. Considering the influence of two types of structural planes, a search method for potential sliding surfaces of rock slope is proposed combined with the finite random tracking method. The location of the sliding surface is controlled through the cut-in point, cut-out point, and arc height so that the range of search variables does not need empirical assumption. An engineering example is used to verify the search method. The results show that the method could accurately obtain the potential sliding surface of the rock slope with embedded structural plane, which proves the effectiveness of the search method.

Background. Osteoporosis is a major disease that affects the quality of life of middle-aged and old people, so it is very important to find efficient and safe drugs to treat osteoporosis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effect of naringin on postmenopausal osteoporosis in ovariectomized (OVX) rats. Methods. Chinese biomedical databases, CNKI, PubMed, EMBASE, and Wan Fang were searched for articles from inception to March 2020. Two independent researchers screened articles according to inclusion criteria. RevMan 5.3 was used for data analysis. Results. Ten studies were included in the systematic review. Populations of multipopulation genetic algorithms (MPGAs) parallely evolve with some interaction mechanisms. Previous studies have shown that the interaction structures can impact on the performance of MPGAs to some extent. This paper introduces the concept of complex networks such as ring-shaped networks and small-world networks to study how interaction structures and their parameters influence the MPGAs, where subpopulations are regarded as nodes and their interaction or migration of elites between subpopulations as edges. After solving the flexible job-shop scheduling problem (FJSP) by MPGAs with different parameters of interaction structures, simulation results were measured by criteria, such as success rate and average optimal value. The analysis reveals that (1) the smaller the average path length (APL) of the network is, the higher the propagation rate will be; (2) the performance of MPGAs increased first and then decreased along with the decrease of APL, indicating that, for better performance, the networks should have a proper APL, which can be adjusted by changing the structural parameters of networks; and (3) because the edge number of small-world networks remains unchanged with different rewiring possibilities of edges, the change in performance indicates that the MPGA can be improved by a more proper interaction structure of subpopulations as other conditions remain unchanged.

In recent years, children’s and adolescents’ growth and development issues have received increasing attention with the socioeconomic development. The etiology of child short stature involves heredity, race, sex, nutrition, and a variety of endocrine hormones, which is very complex. The age of 6∼14 is the key period of children’s development. Understanding the height characteristics, the prevalence of short stature, and its influencing factors at this stage and formulating preventive measures as soon as possible are conducive to improving the average height of children and reducing the incidence of short stature. In this study, cluster sampling was used to select 56,865 children and adolescents aged 6∼14 years old from 40 primary and secondary schools in Furong District of Changsha City, and the height of each child and adolescent was measured. The results showed that the overall crude prevalence of short stature in children aged 6∼14 in Furong District of Changsha is 2.82%. Growth hormone level

The gas loss in sampling is the root of coalbed gas content measurement error. The pressure and particle size have a significant impact on the gas loss. Using the self-developed coal particle pneumatic pipeline transportation experimental system, this study investigated the pressure and particle size changes in the sampling pipeline. It is found that the sampling process can be divided into four stages: no flow field stage, sample outburst stage, stable conveying stage, and tail purging stage. The extreme pressure in the sampling pipeline appears at the sample outburst stage; and the pressure in the pipeline has levelled off after sharp decrease in the stable conveying stage. It is also found that the extreme pressure increases first and then decreases with the increase of particle size. The duration of outburst stage is negatively correlated with particle size, and that of stable conveying stage is positively correlated with particle size. In addition, the results show that the loss rate of 1–3 mm particles is the smallest after the test but that particles less than 1 mm increase by about two times and particles greater than 3 mm decrease by more than three times. The study also shows that the particle size distribution of coal samples is a single peak with left skew distribution, and the gas reverse circulation sampling test does not change the location of the peak but makes it higher and sharper. The single size coal sample is more likely to collide than the mixture. This study can help to advance the understanding of impact factors on gas loss during reverse circulation sampling.

There are several intelligent algorithms that are continually being improved for better performance when solving the flexible job-shop scheduling problem (FJSP); hence, there are many improvement strategies in the literature. To know how to properly choose an improvement strategy, how different improvement strategies affect different algorithms and how different algorithms respond to the same strategy are critical questions that have not yet been addressed. To address them, improvement strategies are first classified into five basic improvement strategies (five structures) used to improve invasive weed optimization (IWO) and genetic algorithm (GA) and then seven algorithms (S1–S7) used to solve five FJSP instances are proposed. For the purpose of comparing these algorithms fairly, we consider the total individual number (TIN) of an algorithm and propose several evaluation indexes based on TIN. In the process of decoding, a novel decoding algorithm is also proposed. The simulation results show that different structures significantly affect the performances of different algorithms and different algorithms respond to the same structure differently. The results of this paper may shed light on how to properly choose an improvement strategy to improve an algorithm for solving the FJSP.

Survivin, an inhibitor of apoptosis protein, is a potentially prognostic factor and therapeutic target in breast carcinoma, but no consensus exists based on heterogeneous data. The aim of this present study is to clarify the prognostic relevance of survivin in breast cancer patients. Relevant articles were screened in PubMed and EMBASE databases. Patients' clinical characteristics, overall survival (OS), disease/recurrence-free survival (DFS/RFS) and positive expressed survivin rates were extracted for further analysis. Statistics extracted from Kaplan-Meier survival curves were calculated indirectly with methods developed by Parmar, Williamson, and Tierney. Multivariate Cox hazard regression analysis data were used directly in Stata 11.0. Pooled hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated to evaluate the prognostic role of survivin in breast cancer. Online literature search identified 23 articles containing 3,259 breast cancer patients. Our meta-analysis of all included studies about survival outcomes showed positive correlation between poor prognosis and survivin expression. Pooled HRs (95% CIs) for OS and DFS/RFS were 1.37 (1.12-1.68) and 1.34 (1.02-1.76), respectively. Subgroup analyses considering methods used to detect survivin (immunohistochemistry or not) and localization of survivin (whole, nuclear or cytoplasm of the cell) were also conducted, and all the above analyses supported the stability of the prognostic role of survivin. In addition, our study revealed a significant association between survivin expression and lymph node metastasis (OR: 2.74; 95% CI: 1.27-5.93) or stage of breast cancer (OR: 2.01; 95% CI: 1.29-3.13). Positive expression of survivin demonstrated a significantly higher risk of recurrence and decreased OS rates in breast cancer.

Signal transducers and activators of transcriptions 1 (STAT1) play an important role in the inflammation process of acute lung injury (ALI). Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) exhibits a specific and strong anti-STAT1 activity. Therefore, our study is to explore whether EGCG pretreatment can ameliorate seawater aspiration-induced ALI and its possible mechanisms. We detected the arterial partial pressure of oxygen, lung wet/dry weight ratios, protein content in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, and the histopathologic and ultrastructure staining of the lung. The levels of IL-1, TNF-α, and IL-10 and the total and the phosphorylated protein level of STAT1, JAK1, and JAK2 were assessed in vitro and in vivo. The results showed that EGCG pretreatment significantly improved hypoxemia and histopathologic changes, alleviated pulmonary edema and lung vascular leak, reduced the production of TNF-αand IL-1, and increased the production of IL-10 in seawater aspiration-induced ALI rats. EGCG also prevented the seawater aspiration-induced increase of TNF-αand IL-1 and decrease of IL-10 in NR8383 cell line. Moreover, EGCG pretreatment reduced the total and the phosphorylated protein level of STAT1in vivoandin vitroand reduced the phosphorylated protein level of JAK1 and JAK2. The present study demonstrates that EGCG ameliorates seawater aspiration-induced ALI via regulating inflammatory cytokines and inhibiting JAK/STAT1 pathway in rats.

In the context of the theory of generalized thermoelastic diffusion, a two-dimensional generalized electromagnetothermoelastic problem with diffusion for a rotating half-space is investigated. The rotating half-space is placed in an external magnetic field with constant intensity and its bounding surface is subjected to a thermal shock and a chemical potential shock. The problem is formulated based on finite element method and the derived finite element equations are solved directly in time domain. The nondimensional temperature, displacement, stress, chemical potential, concentration, and induced magnetic field are obtained and illustrated graphically. The results show that all the considered variables have a nonzero value only in a bounded region and vanish identically outside this region, which fully demonstrates the nature of the finite speeds of thermoelastic wave and diffusive wave.

The aim of the study was to investigate the association between elevated serum fetuin-A and increased urine albumin excretion in obese rats, and whether increased urine albumin excretion was modified by improving hepatic steatosis and lipid metabolism disorder. Male Wistar rats 4 weeks in age were randomly divided into three groups and fed with normal chow (control group), high-fat chow (obesity group), or high-fat chow plus fenofibrate (fenofibrate group). After 24 weeks, both body weight and visceral fat/body weight ratio in obese rats were higher than in controls. A difference in serology markers and pathology associated with hepatic steatosis was also found among the three groups. Serum fetuin-A and the expression of NF-κB in the liver were increased, while serum adiponectin was decreased in obese rats in comparison to controls (P < 0.01). Urinary albumin/creatinine ratio (ACR) was increased in the obesity group compared to controls (P < 0.01). The fenofibrate intervention reduced serum fetuin-A and NF-κB expression in the liver and increased serum adiponectin compared to obese rats and was accompanied by decrease in ACR. A positive correlation was found between ACR and fetuin-A (r = 0.602, P < 0.01), and a negative correlation was found between ACR and adiponectin (r = −0.635, P < 0.01). We conclude that elevated fetuin-A levels are associated with microalbuminuria in obese rats, and abnormal albuminuria is reversible by improving hepatic steatosis.

The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of 3,5,4′-tri-O-acetylresveratrol on connexin 43 (Cx43) in acute lung injury (ALI) in rats induced by tracheal instillation of artificial seawater. Different doses (50, 150, and 450 mg/kg) of 3,5,4′-tri-O-acetylresveratrol were administered orally for 7 days before modeling. Four hours after seawater inhalation, histological changes, contents of TNF-α, IL-1βand IL-10, and the expression of Cx43 in lungs were detected. Besides, the gap junction communication in A549 cells and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) challenged by seawater was also evaluated. Histological changes, increased contents of inflammatory factors, upregulation in gene level, and deregulation in protein level of Cx43 in lungs stimulated by seawater were observed. On the other hand, pretreatment with 3,5,4′-tri-O-acetylresveratrol significantly inhibited infiltration of inflammation, development of pulmonary edema, and contents of inflammatory mediators in lungs. Above all, 3,5,4′-tri-O-acetylresveratrol upregulated the expression of Cx43 in both gene and protein levels, and its intermediate metabolite, resveratrol, also enhanced the gap junction communication in the two cell lines. The results of the present study suggested that administration of 3,5,4′-tri-O-acetylresveratrol may be beneficial for treatment of inflammatorycellsin lung.

We have successfully prepared Cu–Al–O films on silicon (100) and quartz substrates with copper and aluminum composite target by using radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering method. We have related the structural and optical-electrical properties of the films to the sputtering area ratio of Cu/Al for the target (rCu/Al). The deposition rate of the film andrCu/Alcan be fitted by an exponential function.rCu/Alplays a critical role in the final phase constitution and the preferred growth orientation of the CuAlO2phase, thus affecting the film surface morphology significantly. The film with main phase of CuAlO2has been obtained withrCu/Alof 45%. The films show p-type conductivity. With the increase ofrCu/Al, the electrical resistivity decreases first and afterwards increases again. WithrCu/Alof 45%, the optimum electrical resistivity of 80 Ω·cm is obtained, with the optical transmittance being 72%–79% in the visible region (400–760 nm). The corresponding direct band gap and indirect band gap are estimated to be 3.6 eV and 1.7 eV, respectively.

We consider a one-dimensional semilinear parabolic equation with exponential gradient source and provide a complete classification of large time behavior of the classical solutions: either the space derivative of the solution blows up in finite time with the solution itself remaining bounded or the solution is global and converges inC1norm to the unique steady state. The main difficulty is to proveC1boundedness of all global solutions. To do so, we explicitly compute a nontrivial Lyapunov's functional by carrying out the method of Zelenyak.

This paper deals with the periodic solutions of a class of fourth-order superlinear differential equations. By using the classical variational techniques and symmetric mountain pass lemma, the periodic solutions of a single equation in literature are extended to that of equations, and also, the cubic growth of nonlinear term is extended to a general form of superlinear growth.
