In this work, a circularly-polarized ultra-high frequency (UHF) partial discharge (PD) antenna is proposed to detect the PD in 0.6 GHz - 1.7 GHz. The proposed PD antenna consists of an Archimedean spiral antenna, a balun, and a cavity. The Archimedean spiral antenna is embedded by FR-4 as substrate and superstrate for miniaturization. The microstrip-to-paired strips balun is designed to yield good performance in the return loss, insertion loss, and amplitude and phase imbalances which are of great necessity for low axial ratio. The cavity is employed to obtain unidirectional radiation patterns and prevent external signal interference. However, it is found that the originally-designed cavity-backed antenna does not work properly near 1.35 GHz due to resonance phenomena in the cavity. In this work, the cavity is modified to tackle this problem. The proposed UHF PD antenna is fabricated and measured and the results show that it provides good impedance matching, realized gain, radiation pattern, and circular polarization.

In this paper, we propose an SAO hardware architecture with less processing time, computations and reduced hardware area for a high performance HEVC decoder. The proposed SAO hardware architecture introduces the design processing 8×8 CU to reduce the hardware area and uses internal registers to support 64×64 CU processing. Instead of previous top-down block partitioning, it uses bottom-up block partitioning to minimize the amount of calculation and processing time. As a result of synthesizing the proposed architecture with TSMC 180nm library, the gate area is 30.7k and the maximum frequency is 250MHz.

To handle the extreme situation that must manage positional information of a very large volume, at least millions, of moving objects, a cluster-based scalable distributed computing system architecture, called the GALIS, which consists of multiple data processors, each dedicated to keeping records relevant to a different geographical zone and a different time zone, was proposed. In this paper, we propose a valid time management and time-zone shifting scheme, which are essential in realizing the long-term location data subsystem of GALIS, but missed in our previous prototype development. We explain how to manage valid time of moving objects to avoid ambiguity of location information. We also describe time-zone shifting algorithm, with three variations, such as RT-TZS, B-TZS and TPB-TZS. Through experiments related with query processing time and CPU utilization, we show the efficiency of the proposed time-zone shifting schemes.

In this paper, we describe a location information system prototype of GALIS, which is a cluster-based scalable distributed computing system architecture which consists of multiple data processors, each dedicated to keeping records relevant to a different geographical zone and a different time zone. The proposed system contains all of the major computing nodes of GALIS architecture and is developed as a middleware on top of commercial main-memory database engines and spatial database engines, for short-term data and long-term data processing, respectively. To show the usefulness of our system, some experimental results showing clear advantages of distributed computing are also explained.
