This paper takes the assembly line of household refrigerator A of H company as the research object, and calculates the balance rate of the production line through on-site measurement, and finds that the production line has big problems. Through Flexsim simulation analysis, the bottleneck process was found, and the ECRS principle and operation improvement method of industrial engineering were used to adjust the work position process, divide the work content, adjust the number of staff, and improve the method of on-site layout to achieve the improvement and optimization of the assembly line balance, which achieved obvious results effect.

During the past years, overload at work leading to psychological diseases, such as burnouts, have drawn more public attention. This paper is a preliminary step toward an analysis of the work patterns and possible indicators of overload and time pressure on software developers with mining software repositories approach. We explore the working pattern of developers in the context of Mozilla Firefox, a large and long-lived open source project. To that end we investigate the impact of the move from traditional to rapid release cycle on work pattern. Moreover we compare Mozilla Firefox work pattern with another Mozilla product, Firefox OS, which has a different release cycle than Firefox. We find that both projects exhibit healthy working patterns, i.e. lower activity during the weekends and outside of office hours. Firefox experiences proportionally more activity on weekends than Firefox OS (Cohen's d = 0.94). We find that switching to rapid releases has reduced weekend work (Cohen's d = 1.43) and working during the night (Cohen's d = 0.45). This result holds even when we limit the analyzes on the hired resources, i.e. considering only individuals with Mozilla foundation email address, although, the effect sizes are smaller for weekends (Cohen's d = 0.64) and nights (Cohen's d = 0.23). Moreover, we use dissimilarity word clouds and find that work during the weekend is more technical while work during the week expresses more positive sentiment with words like "good" and "nice". Our results suggest that moving to rapid releases have positive impact on the work health and work-life-balance of software engineers. Activities carried out in Research Organizations (ROs), as in other organizations, becomes more oriented to efficient use of limited resources by transforming them into high quality R&D products. Traditional methods for performance assessment cannot be applied to ROs successfully as they differ from business enterprises in their different nature, work content, specificity and multi-dimensionality of created products, spontaneity of activities, data time lag and other features. The paper presents the ROs productivity assessment scheme, which allows the evaluation of activities carried out in ROs from the perspective of their activity types. The created scheme is tested empirically using Multi-Criteria Decision Making analysis methods.

We consider the project scheduling problem where each project activity has a prescribed work content that must be completed by a so-called work-content resource, and the activities' resource usage may be varied over time. In each period, the amount of resources allocated to an activity must lie within a prescribed range and cannot be changed for a minimum number of consecutive periods. The amount allocated determines an activity's requirements for further resources. The activities must be scheduled such that the project makespan is minimized. For this problem, we devise an MIP-based heuristic that schedules the activities sequentially. To determine more efficient resource allocations among multiple activities, subsets of activities are rescheduled periodically. Our computational results for a standard test set from the literature indicate that the proposed approach provides very good feasible solutions for small-sized instances, and that it outperforms the state-of-the-art methods for large-sized instances.

In aviation, Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) refers to the actions of fixing an air craft when it becomes out of order, or performing routine actions to keep the air craft in working order. MRO services are carried out strictly under the instruction of corresponding MRO task cards, which detail all the information including work content, procedure, equipment, etc. needed for MRO technicians to complete a MRO service. A task card is usually prepared in a word document. It may contain over a hundred pages, and possibly in multi-languages for international MRO service providers. While English task cards are assumed to be available along with air planes, their multilanguage translation remains a tedious and time-consuming problem. In this paper, we demonstrate an English-Chinese bilingual MRO task card generator system called TaskCardGeneratore2c. Given the work content input by the user, TaskCardGeneratore2c examines the existence of similar bilingual MRO task cards in the local repository, and returns the one to the user directly if it exists, or otherwise, does the English-to-Chinese translation over the corresponding monolingual English task card. The translated bilingual task card will be sent back to the user for final proof. With TaskCardGeneratore2c, human's repetitive time-consuming efforts on bilingual task cards preparation can be greatly reduced, improving the working efficiency and quality of MRO services. A field study was conducted at an international MRO service company to further evaluate TaskCardGenerator.

The impact of Preventive Maintenance (PM) activity on the cycle time of a specific toolset or even the entire fab can be detrimental. Hence, there is strong incentive to determining the best way to carry out the required PM work content so as to optimize cycle time. In this paper, a model is proposed that optimizes the execution of PM's for a pre-determined PM work content, with the consideration of attached setups.

This paper highlights a methodology developed for minimization of non-productive activities in an assembly line. The case study was conducted in tractor manufacturing unit having a dedicated assembly line for tractor engine. The study conducted using MOST (Maynard's Operation Sequence Technique) revealed the excessive movements of the operators that significantly added to the basic work content. The necessary changes were suggested in workplace layout to minimize the stress creating unproductive movements. The paper, it is believed, would be of great help to those working in the area of efficiency improvement in automobile industry.

With the progress of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, it has gradually been used on supplying chain activity and process reengineering. To cooperate with this trend, cultivation of medium and high level personnel for aquatic products industry is an important task now or never. This research is according to the conception of three phases curriculum development consisting of preparation, development and improvement, which were proposed by Mager and Beach (1967), and then the applied program and curriculum of aquatic products RFID logistics and supply chain is established. The required work content needed by industries is obtained by investigation on industries requirements, competency analysis is then executed to understand the personnel competency needed by industries, then compare the abilities which student derived from RFID program with the personnel competency needed by industries, the teaching goal is then set up, the evaluation standards for different courses are also determined. Three fundamental required courses and six professional advanced selective courses are presented through above process. The teaching topics, schedule and contents of the program are devised according to the connecting flow map between courses. The accomplishments of this program are evaluated by number of program certificates released, number of students enrolled in this program, program achievement, and related activities carried out. Then on the following four facets iquest faculties, courses, students, overall teaching improvement, and their thirteen indexes, these indicators are used to examine the performance on running this program. Finally, the university centre committee of aquatic products RFID logistics and supply chain will censor the execution of this program, and this would enable to cultivate medium and high level personnel of RFID logistics and supply chain needed by aquatic products industry.

The development and implementation of the education program for production employees at IBM, Essex Junction, are described. The basic courses are taught at the high school level. Intermediate and advanced courses are taught at the two-year technical college level. General concepts learned at the basic level become thorough knowledge at the intermediate level. Electronics courses dominate the advanced level. Academic courses are accredited and completion of the curriculum results in a technical equivalent of an electronic technology AAS degree. This education plan provides formal education along with process and tool training to position the company for the technical challenges of the 1990s. It addresses an environment of rapid delivery of new technology, higher quality and more complex products, sophisticated tools and processes, and a changing work content for production employees.
