Since plant diseases occurring during the growth process are a significant factor leading to the decline in both yield and quality, the classification and detection of plant leaf diseases, followed by timely prevention and control measures, are crucial for safeguarding plant productivity and quality. As the traditional convolutional neural network structure cannot effectively recognize similar plant leaf diseases, in order to more accurately identify the diseases on plant leaves, this paper proposes an effective plant disease image recognition method aECA-ResNet34. This method is based on ResNet34, and in the first and the last layers of this network, respectively, we add this paper's improved aECAnet with the symmetric structure. aECA-ResNet34 is compared with different plant disease classification models on the peanut dataset constructed in this paper and the open-source PlantVillage dataset. The experimental results show that the aECA-ResNet34 model proposed in this paper has higher accuracy, better performance, and better robustness. The occurrence of maize diseases is frequent but challenging to manage. Traditional identification methods have low accuracy and complex model structures with numerous parameters, making them difficult to implement on mobile devices. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a corn leaf disease recognition model SNMPF based on convolutional neural network ShuffleNetV2. In the down-sampling module of the ShuffleNet model, the max pooling layer replaces the deep convolutional layer to perform down-sampling. This improvement helps to extract key features from images, reduce the overfitting of the model, and improve the model's generalization ability. In addition, to enhance the model's ability to express features in complex backgrounds, the Sim AM attention mechanism was introduced. This mechanism enables the model to adaptively adjust focus and pay more attention to local discriminative features. The results on a maize disease image dataset demonstrate that the SNMPF model achieves a recognition accuracy of 98.40%, representing a 4.1 percentage point improvement over the original model, while its size is only 1.56 MB. Compared with existing convolutional neural network models such as EfficientNet, MobileViT, EfficientNetV2, RegNet, and DenseNet, this model offers higher accuracy and a more compact size. As a result, it can automatically detect and classify maize leaf diseases under natural field conditions, boasting high-precision recognition capabilities. Monitoring the condition of the grinding wheel in real-time during the grinding process is crucial as it directly impacts the precision and quality of the workpiece. Deep learning technology plays a vital role in analyzing the changes in sensor signals and identifying grinding wheel wear during the grinding process. Therefore, this paper innovatively proposes a grinding wheel wear recognition method based on Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) denoising and Aquila Optimizer—Convolutional Neural Network—Long Short-Term Memory (AO-CNN-LSTM). The paper utilizes Acoustic Emission (AE) signals generated during grinding to identify the condition of the grinding wheel. To address noise interference, the study introduces the VMD algorithm for denoising the sample dataset, enhancing the effectiveness of neural network training. Subsequently, the dataset is fed into the designed Convolutional Neural Network—Long Short-Term Memory (CNN-LSTM) structure with AO-optimized parameters. With a large proportion of wind farms connected to the power grid, it brings more pressure on the stable operation of power systems in shorter time scales. Efficient and accurate scheduling, operation control and decision making require high time resolution power forecasting algorithms with higher accuracy and real-time performance. In this paper, we innovatively propose a high temporal resolution wind power forecasting method based on a light convolutional architecture—DC_LCNN. The method starts from the source data and novelly designs the dual-channel data input mode to provide different combinations of feature data for the model, thus improving the upper limit of the learning ability of the whole model. The dual-channel convolutional neural network (CNN) structure extracts different spatial and temporal constraints of the input features. The light global maximum pooling method replaces the flat operation combined with the fully connected (FC) forecasting method in the traditional CNN, extracts the most significant features of the global method, and directly performs data downscaling at the same time, which significantly improves the forecasting accuracy and efficiency of the model. In this paper, the experiments are carried out on the 1 s resolution data of the actual wind field, and the single-step forecasting task with 1 s ahead of time and the multi-step forecasting task with 1~10 s ahead of time are executed, respectively. Comparing the experimental results with the classical deep learning models in the current field, the proposed model shows absolute accuracy advantages on both forecasting tasks. Facial expression recognition (FER) plays a crucial role in understanding human emotions and is becoming increasingly relevant in educational contexts, where personalized and empathetic interactions are essential. The problems with existing approaches are typically solved using a single deep learning method, which is not robust with complex datasets, such as FER data, which have a characteristic imbalance and multi-class labels. In this research paper, an innovative approach to FER using a homogeneous ensemble convolutional neural network, called HoE-CNN, is presented for future online learning education. This paper aims to transfer the knowledge of models and FER classification using ensembled homogeneous conventional neural network architectures. FER is challenging to research because there are many real-world applications to consider, such as adaptive user interfaces, games, education, and robot integration. HoE-CNN is used to improve the classification performance on an FER dataset, encompassing seven main multi-classes (Angry, Disgust, Fear, Happy, Sad, Surprise, Neutral). The experiment shows that the proposed framework, which uses an ensemble of deep learning models, performs better than a single deep learning model. In summary, the proposed model will increase the efficiency of FER classification results and solve FER2013 at a accuracy of 75.51%, addressing both imbalanced datasets and multi-class classification to transfer the application of the model to online learning applications. The traditional method for retrieving cloud optical thickness (COT) is carried out through a Look-Up Table (LUT). Researchers must make a series of idealized assumptions and conduct extensive observations and record features in this scenario, consuming considerable resources. The emergence of deep learning effectively addresses the shortcomings of the traditional approach. In this paper, we first propose a daytime (SOZA < 70°) COT retrieval algorithm based on FY-4A AGRI. We establish and train a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model for COT retrieval, CM4CR, with the CALIPSO's COT product spatially and temporally synchronized as the ground truth. Then, a deep learning method extended from video prediction models is adopted to predict COT values based on the retrieval results obtained from CM4CR. The COT prediction model (CPM) consists of an encoder, a predictor, and a decoder. On this basis, we further incorporated a time embedding module to enhance the model's ability to learn from irregular time intervals in the input COT sequence. During the training phase, we employed Charbonnier Loss and Edge Loss to enhance the model's capability to represent COT details. Experiments indicate that our CM4CR outperforms existing COT retrieval methods, with predictions showing better performance across several metrics than other benchmark prediction models. In industry, forecast prediction and health management (PHM) is used to improve system reliability and efficiency. In PHM, remaining useful life (RUL) prediction plays a key role in preventing machine failures and reducing operating costs, especially for reliability requirements such as critical components in aviation as well as for costly equipment. With the development of deep learning techniques, many RUL prediction methods employ convolutional neural network (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM) networks and demonstrate superior performance. In this paper, a novel two-stream network based on a bidirectional long short-term memory neural network (BiLSTM) is proposed to establish a two-stage residual life prediction model for mechanical devices using CNN as the feature extractor and BiLSTM as the timing processor, and finally, a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is used to adjust and optimize the network structural parameters for the initial data. Under the condition of lack of professional knowledge, the adaptive extraction of the features of the data accumulated by the enterprise and the effective processing of a large amount of timing data are achieved. The integration of photonics and artificial intelligence (AI) has led to the emergence of intelligent photonics, which offers significant advancements in medical imaging. In this paper, a Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF)-based sensor is presented for tumor detection. The finite element method is used to simulate the proposed sensor. By varying the geometrical parameters of the proposed sensor, an optimized sensor is proposed. Meanwhile, the latest AI techniques used in medical imaging, such as deep learning (DL) and convolutional neural networks (CNN), are also analyzed to improve upon the ability of the sensor. This paper highlights the potential of intelligent photonics in improving efficiency, sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of medical imaging, particularly in the areas of tumor detection and treatment. The results show that DL has an efficiency of 95%, and CNN has shown an accuracy of 98%. Additionally, this paper discusses the challenges and limitations that need to be addressed in order to fully realize the potential of these technologies. With the development of new technologies inside car mechanisms with various sensors connected to the IoT, a new generation of automation is attracting attention. However, there are still some factors that are difficult to detect. Among them, one of the highest risk factors is black ice. A road covered with black ice, which is hard to see from a distance, is not only the cause of damage to vehicles passing over the spot, but it also puts lives at risk. Hence, the detection of black ice is essential. A lot of research has been done on this topic with various sensors and methods. However, hyperspectral imaging has not been used for this particular purpose. Therefore, in this paper, black ice classification has been performed with the help of hyperspectral imaging in collaboration with a deep learning model for the first time. With abundant spectral and spatial information, hyperspectral imaging is a good way to analyze any material. In this paper, a 2D–3D Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) has been used to classify hyperspectral images of black ice. The spectral data were preprocessed, and the dimension of the image cube was reduced with the help of Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Photovoltaic (PV) fault detection is crucial because undetected PV faults can lead to significant energy losses, with some cases experiencing losses of up to 10%. The efficiency of PV systems depends upon the reliable detection and diagnosis of faults. The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques has been a growing trend in addressing these issues. The goal of this systematic review is to offer a comprehensive overview of the recent advancements in AI-based methodologies for PV fault detection, consolidating the key findings from 31 research papers. An initial pool of 142 papers were identified, from which 31 were selected for in-depth review following the PRISMA guidelines. The title, objective, methods, and findings of each paper were analyzed, with a focus on machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) approaches. ML and DL are particularly suitable for PV fault detection because of their capacity to process and analyze large amounts of data to identify complex patterns and anomalies. This study identified several AI techniques used for fault detection in PV systems, ranging from classical ML methods like k-nearest neighbor (KNN) and random forest to more advanced deep learning models such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). Quantum circuits and infrared imagery were also explored as potential solutions. The analysis found that DL models, in general, outperformed traditional ML models in accuracy and efficiency. This study shows that AI methodologies have evolved and been increasingly applied in PV fault detection. The integration of AI in PV fault detection offers high accuracy and effectiveness. The purpose of image dehazing is to remove the interference from weather factors in degraded images and enhance the clarity and color saturation of images to maximize the restoration of useful features. Single image dehazing is one of the most important tasks in the field of image restoration. In recent years, due to the progress of deep learning, single image dehazing has made great progress. With the success of Transformer in advanced computer vision tasks, some research studies also began to apply Transformer to image dehazing tasks and obtained surprising results. However, both the deconvolution-neural-network-based dehazing algorithm and Transformer based dehazing algorithm magnify their advantages and disadvantages separately. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel Transformer–Convolution fusion dehazing network (TCFDN), which uses Transformer's global modeling ability and convolutional neural network's local modeling ability to improve the dehazing ability. In the Transformer–Convolution fusion dehazing network, the classic self-encoder structure is used. This paper proposes a Transformer–Convolution hybrid layer, which uses an adaptive fusion strategy to make full use of the Swin-Transformer and convolutional neural network to extract and reconstruct image features. On the basis of previous research, this layer further improves the ability of the network to remove haze. A series of contrast experiments and ablation experiments not only proved that the Transformer–Convolution fusion dehazing network proposed in this paper exceeded the more advanced dehazing algorithm, but also provided solid and powerful evidence for the basic theory on which it depends. The rapid development of natural language processing and deep learning techniques has boosted the performance of related algorithms in several linguistic and text mining tasks. Consequently, applications such as opinion mining, fake news detection or document classification that assign documents to predefined categories have significantly benefited from pre-trained language models, word or sentence embeddings, linguistic corpora, knowledge graphs and other resources that are in abundance for the more popular languages (e.g., English, Chinese, etc.). Less represented languages, such as the Kazakh language, balkan languages, etc., still lack the necessary linguistic resources and thus the performance of the respective methods is still low. In this work, we develop a model that classifies scientific papers written in the Kazakh language using both text and image information and demonstrate that this fusion of information can be beneficial for cases of languages that have limited resources for machine learning models' training. With this fusion, we improve the classification accuracy by 4.4499% compared to the models that use only text or only image information. The successful use of the proposed method in scientific documents' classification paves the way for more complex classification models and more application in other domains such as news classification, sentiment analysis, etc., in the Kazakh language. Bit-serial neural network accelerators address the growing need for compact and energy-efficient deep learning tools. Traditional neural network accelerators, while effective, often grapple with issues of size, power consumption, and versatility in handling a variety of computational tasks. To counter these challenges, this paper introduces an approach that hinges on the integration of bit-serial processing with advanced dataflow techniques and architectural optimizations. Central to this approach is a column-buffering (CB) dataflow, which significantly reduces access and movement requirements for the input feature map (IFM), thereby enhancing efficiency. Moreover, a simplified quantization process effectively eliminates biases, streamlining the overall computation process. Furthermore, this paper presents a meticulously designed LeNet-5 accelerator leveraging a convolutional layer processing element array (CL PEA) architecture incorporating an improved bit-serial multiply–accumulate unit (MAC). Empirically, our work demonstrates superior performance in terms of frequency, chip area, and power consumption compared to current state-of-the-art ASIC designs. Specifically, our design utilizes fewer hardware resources to implement a complete accelerator, achieving a high performance of 7.87 GOPS on a Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA with a brief processing time of 284.13 μs. Recent technological developments have enabled computers to identify and categorize facial expressions to determine a person's emotional state in an image or a video. This process, called "Facial Expression Recognition (FER)", has become one of the most popular research areas in computer vision. In recent times, deep FER systems have primarily concentrated on addressing two significant challenges: the problem of overfitting due to limited training data availability, and the presence of expression-unrelated variations, including illumination, head pose, image resolution, and identity bias. In this paper, a comprehensive survey is provided on deep FER, encompassing algorithms and datasets that offer insights into these intrinsic problems. Initially, this paper presents a detailed timeline showcasing the evolution of methods and datasets in deep facial expression recognition (FER). This timeline illustrates the progression and development of the techniques and data resources used in FER. Then, a comprehensive review of FER methods is introduced, including the basic principles of FER (components such as preprocessing, feature extraction and classification, and methods, etc.) from the pro-deep learning era (traditional methods using handcrafted features, i.e., SVM and HOG, etc.) to the deep learning era. Moreover, a brief introduction is provided related to the benchmark datasets (there are two categories: controlled environments (lab) and uncontrolled environments (in the wild)) used to evaluate different FER methods and a comparison of different FER models. Existing deep neural networks and related training strategies designed for FER, based on static images and dynamic image sequences, are discussed. In this paper, we propose a method for estimating the classes and directions of static audio objects using stereo microphones in a drone environment. Drones are being increasingly used across various fields, with the integration of sensors such as cameras and microphones, broadening their scope of application. Therefore, we suggest a method that attaches stereo microphones to drones for the detection and direction estimation of specific emergency monitoring. Specifically, the proposed neural network is configured to estimate fixed-size audio predictions and employs bipartite matching loss for comparison with actual audio objects. To train the proposed network structure, we built an audio dataset related to speech and drones in an outdoor environment. Simple Summary: Diagnosing glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), solitary brain metastases (SBM), and primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) in malignant tumors of the central nervous system using multi-modal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is significantly important in helping physicians develop treatment plans and enhance patient prognosis. In this paper, MFFC-Net is developed and validated using deep learning methods to predict these three tumor categories from multi-modal MRI without the manual region of interest (ROI). MFFC-Net first uses a multi-encoder with DenseBlocks to extract deep features from multi-modal MRI. Then, the feature fusion layer fuses the deep information between different modalities and tissues. Finally, the spatial-channel attention module suppresses redundant new information and activates tumor classification-related features. Compared with radiomics models, MFFC-Net demonstrated higher accuracy. In addition, the results in the different sequences provide important references for future clinical work on MRI image acquisition. We believe that MFFC-Net has the potential to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors in the future. (1) Background: Diagnosis of glioblastoma (GBM), solitary brain metastases (SBM), and primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) plays a decisive role in the development of personalized treatment plans. Constructing a deep learning classification network to diagnose GBM, SBM, and PCNSL with multi-modal MRI is important and necessary. (2) Subjects: GBM, SBM, and PCNSL were confirmed by histopathology with the multi-modal MRI examination (study from 1225 subjects, average age 53 years, 671 males), 3.0 T T2 fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (T2-Flair), and Contrast-enhanced T1-weighted imaging (CE-T1WI). (3) Methods: This paper introduces MFFC-Net, a classification model based on the fusion of multi-modal MRIs, for the classification of GBM, SBM, and PCNSL. The network architecture consists of parallel encoders using DenseBlocks to extract features from different modalities of MRI images. Subsequently, an L 1 − n o r m feature fusion module is applied to enhance the interrelationships among tumor tissues. Then, a spatial-channel self-attention weighting operation is performed after the feature fusion. Finally, the classification results are obtained using the full convolutional layer (FC) and Soft-max. (4) Results: The ACC of MFFC-Net based on feature fusion was 0.920, better than the radiomics model (ACC of 0.829). There was no significant difference in the ACC compared to the expert radiologist (0.920 vs. 0.924, p = 0.774). When a machine tool is used for a long time, its bearing experiences wear and failure due to heat and vibration, resulting in damage to the machine tool. In order to make the machine tool stable for processing, this paper proposes a smart bearing diagnosis system (SBDS), which uses a gradient-weighted class activation mapping (Grad-CAM)-based convolutional neuro-fuzzy network (GC-CNFN) to detect the bearing status of the machine tool. The developed GC-CNFN is composed of a convolutional layer and neuro-fuzzy network. The convolutional layer can automatically extract vibration signal features, which are then classified using the neuro-fuzzy network. Moreover, Grad-CAM is used to analyze the attention of the diagnosis model. To verify the performance of bearing fault classification, the 1D CNN (ODCNN) and improved 1D LeNet-5 (I1DLeNet) were adopted to compare with the proposed GC-CNFN. Experimental results showed that the proposed GC-CNFN required fewer parameters (20K), had a shorter average calculation time (117.7 s), and had a higher prediction accuracy (99.88%) in bearing fault classification. Respiratory viruses, such as COVID-19, are spread over time and space based on human-to-human interactions. Human mobility plays a key role in the propagation of the virus. Different types of sensors in smart cities are able to continuously monitor traffic-related human mobility, showing the impact of COVID-19 on traffic volumes and patterns. In a similar way, traffic volumes measured by smart traffic sensors provide a proxy variable to capture human mobility, which is expected to have an impact on new COVID-19 infections. Adding traffic data from smart city sensors to machine learning models designed to estimate upcoming COVID-19 incidence values should provide optimized results compared to models based on COVID-19 data alone. This paper proposes a novel model to extract spatio-temporal patterns in the spread of the COVID-19 virus for short-term predictions by organizing COVID-19 incidence and traffic data as interrelated temporal sequences of spatial images. The model is trained and validated with real data from the city of Madrid in Spain for 84 weeks, combining information from 4372 traffic measuring points and 143 COVID-19 PCR test centers. The results are compared with a baseline model designed for the extraction of spatio-temporal patterns from COVID-19-only sequences of images, showing that using traffic information enhances the results when forecasting a new wave of infections (MSE values are reduced by a 70% factor). The information that traffic data has on the spread of the COVID-19 virus is also analyzed, showing that traffic data alone is not sufficient for accurate COVID-19 forecasting. The Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is one of the widely used deep learning models that offers the chance to boost farming productivity through autonomous inference of field conditions. In this paper, CNN is connected to a Support Vector Machine (SVM) to form a new model CNN-SVM; the CNN models chosen are ResNet-50 and VGG16 and the CNN-SVM models formed are ResNet-50-SVM and VGG16-SVM. The method consists of two parts: ResNet-50 and VGG16 for feature extraction and SVM for classification. This paper uses the public multi-class weeds dataset DeepWeeds for training and testing. The proposed ResNet-50-SVM and VGG16-SVM approaches achieved 97.6% and 95.9% recognition accuracies on the DeepWeeds dataset, respectively. The state-of-the-art networks (VGG16, ResNet-50, GoogLeNet, Densenet-121, and PSO-CNN) with the same dataset are accurate at 93.2%, 96.1%, 93.6%, 94.3%, and 96.9%, respectively. In comparison, the accuracy of the proposed methods has been improved by 1.5% and 2.7%, respectively. Earthquake Disaster Assessment (EDA) plays a critical role in earthquake disaster prevention, evacuation, and rescue efforts. Deep learning (DL), which boasts advantages in image processing, signal recognition, and object detection, has facilitated scientific research in EDA. This paper analyses 204 articles through a systematic literature review to investigate the status quo, development, and challenges of DL for EDA. The paper first examines the distribution characteristics and trends of the two categories of EDA assessment objects, including earthquakes and secondary disasters as disaster objects, buildings, infrastructure, and areas as physical objects. Next, this study analyses the application distribution, advantages, and disadvantages of the three types of data (remote sensing data, seismic data, and social media data) mainly involved in these studies. Furthermore, the review identifies the characteristics and application of six commonly used DL models in EDA, including convolutional neural network (CNN), multi-layer perceptron (MLP), recurrent neural network (RNN), generative adversarial network (GAN), transfer learning (TL), and hybrid models. The paper also systematically details the application of DL for EDA at different times (i.e., pre-earthquake stage, during-earthquake stage, post-earthquake stage, and multi-stage). We find that the most extensive research in this field involves using CNNs for image classification to detect and assess building damage resulting from earthquakes. Finally, the paper discusses challenges related to training data and DL models, and identifies opportunities in new data sources, multimodal DL, and new concepts. The motor is the primary impetus source of most mechanical equipment, and its failure will cause substantial economic losses and safety problems. Therefore, it is necessary to study online fault diagnosis techniques for motors, given the problems caused by shallow learning models or single-sensor fault analysis in previous motor fault diagnosis techniques, such as blurred fault features, inaccurate identification, and time and manpower consumption. In this paper, we proposed a model for motor fault diagnosis based on deep learning and multi-sensor information fusion. Firstly, a correlation adaptive weighting method is proposed in this paper, and it is used to integrate the collected multi-source homogeneous sensor information into multi-source heterogeneous sensor information through the data layer fusion. Secondly, the 1D-CNN is used to carry out feature extraction, feature layer fusion, and fault classification of multi-source heterogeneous information of the motor. Finally, the data of seven states (one healthy and six faulty) of the motor are collected by the motor drive test bench to realize the model's training, testing, and verification. SheepFaceNet includes two modules: SheepFaceNetDet for detection and SheepFaceNetRec for recognition. SheepFaceNetDet uses Eblock to construct the backbone network to enhance feature extraction capability and efficiency, designs a bidirectional FPN layer (BiFPN) to enhance geometric location ability, and optimizes the network structure, which affects inference speed, to achieve fast and accurate sheep face detection. SheepFaceNetRec uses Eblock to construct the feature extraction network, uses ECA channel attention to improve the effectiveness of feature extraction, and uses multi-scale feature fusion to achieve fast and accurate sheep face recognition. On our self-built sheep face dataset, SheepFaceNet recognized 387 sheep face images per second with an accuracy rate of 97.75%, achieving an advanced balance between speed and accuracy. This paper presents the design of a high-voltage pulse-based radar and a supervised data processing method for soil moisture estimation. The goal of this research was to design a pulse-based radar to detect changes in soil moisture using a cross-hole approach. The pulse-based radar with three transmitting antennas was placed into a 12 m deep hole, and a receiver with three receive antennas was placed into a different hole separated by 100 m from the transmitter. The pulse generator was based on a Marx generator with an LC filter, and for the receiver, the high-frequency data acquisition card was used, which can acquire signals using 3 Gigabytes per second. Used borehole antennas were designed to operate in the wide frequency band to ensure signal propagation through the soil. A deep regression convolutional network is proposed in this paper to estimate volumetric soil moisture using time-sampled signals. A regression convolutional network is extended to three dimensions to model changes in wave propagation between the transmitted and received signals. The training dataset was acquired during the period of 73 days of acquisition between two boreholes separated by 100 m. The soil moisture measurements were acquired at three points 25 m apart to provide ground truth data. Additionally, water was poured into several specially prepared boreholes between transmitter and receiver antennas to acquire additional dataset for training, validation, and testing of convolutional neural networks. Featured Application: This paper studies attention-related optimizations and innovations for the ConvNeXt network proposed in January 2022, providing a reference for subsequent researchers to optimize this network. Thus far, few studies have been conducted on fine-grained classification tasks for the latest convolutional neural network ConvNeXt, and no effective optimization method has been made available. To achieve more accurate fine-grained classification, this paper proposes two attention embedding methods based on ConvNeXt network and designs a new bilinear CBAM; simultaneously, a multiscale, multi-perspective and all-around attention framework is proposed, which is then applied in ConvNeXt. Experimental verification shows that the accuracy rate of the improved ConvNeXt for fine-grained image classification reaches 87.8%, 91.2%, and 93.2% on fine-grained classification datasets CUB-200-2011, Stanford Cars, and FGVC Aircraft, respectively, showing increases of 2.7%, 0.3% and 0.4%, respectively, compared to those of the original network without optimization, and increases of 3.7%, 8.0% and 2.0%, respectively, compared to those of the traditional BCNN. With the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT), the sophistication and intelligence of sensors are continually evolving, playing increasingly important roles in smart homes, industrial automation, and remote healthcare. However, these intelligent sensors face many security threats, particularly from malware attacks. Identifying and classifying malware is crucial for preventing such attacks. As the number of sensors and their applications grow, malware targeting sensors proliferates. Processing massive malware samples is challenging due to limited bandwidth and resources in IoT environments. Therefore, compressing malware samples before transmission and classification can improve efficiency. Additionally, sharing malware samples between classification participants poses security risks, necessitating methods that prevent sample exploitation. Moreover, the complex network environments also necessitate robust classification methods. To address these challenges, this paper proposes CSMC (Compressed Sensing Malware Classification), an efficient malware classification method based on compressed sensing. This method compresses malware samples before sharing and classification, thus facilitating more effective sharing and processing. By introducing deep learning, the method can extract malware family features during compression, which classical methods cannot achieve. Furthermore, the irreversibility of the method enhances security by preventing classification participants from exploiting malware samples. Experimental results demonstrate that for malware targeting Windows and Android operating systems, CSMC outperforms many existing methods based on compressed sensing and machine or deep learning. This paper addresses the challenge of accurately forecasting solar power generation (SPG) across multiple sites using a single common model. The proposed deep learning-based model is designed to predict SPG for various locations by leveraging a comprehensive dataset from multiple sites in the Republic of Korea. By incorporating common meteorological elements such as temperature, humidity, and cloud cover into its framework, the model uniquely identifies site-specific features to enhance the forecasting accuracy. The key innovation of this model is the integration of a classifier module within the common model framework, enabling it to adapt and predict SPG for both known and unknown sites based on site similarities. Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium. It primarily impacts the lungs but can also endanger other organs, such as the renal system, spine, and brain. When an infected individual sneezes, coughs, or speaks, the virus can spread through the air, which contributes to its high contagiousness. The goal is to enhance detection recognition with an X-ray image dataset. This paper proposed a novel approach, named the Tuberculosis Segmentation-Guided Diagnosis Model (TSSG-CNN) for Detecting Tuberculosis, using a combined semantic segmentation and adaptive convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture. The proposed approach is distinguished from most of the previously proposed approaches in that it uses the combination of a deep learning segmentation model with a follow-up classification model based on CNN layers to segment chest X-ray images more precisely as well as to improve the diagnosis of TB. It contrasts with other approaches like ILCM, which is optimized for sequential learning, and explainable AI approaches, which focus on explanations. Moreover, our model is beneficial for the simplified procedure of feature optimization from the perspectives of approach using the Mayfly Algorithm (MA). Other models, including simple CNN, Batch Normalized CNN (BN-CNN), and Dense CNN (DCNN), are also evaluated on this dataset to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The performance of the TSSG-CNN model outperformed all the models with an impressive accuracy of 98.75% and an F1 score of 98.70%. Diabetes is caused by insulin deficiency or impaired biological action, and long-term hyperglycemia leads to a variety of tissue damage and dysfunction. Therefore, the early prediction of diabetes and timely intervention and treatment are crucial. This paper proposes a robust framework for the prediction and diagnosis of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) to aid in diabetes applications in clinical diagnosis. The data-preprocessing stage includes steps such as outlier removal, missing value filling, data standardization, and assigning class weights to ensure the quality and consistency of the data, thereby improving the performance and stability of the model. This experiment used the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) dataset and the publicly available PIMA Indian dataset (PID). For T2DM classification, we designed a convolutional neural network (CNN) and proposed a novel attention-oriented convolutional neural network (SECNN) through the channel attention mechanism. To optimize the hyperparameters of the model, we used grid search and K-fold cross-validation methods. In addition, we also comparatively analyzed various machine learning (ML) models such as support vector machine (SVM), logistic regression (LR), decision tree (DT), random forest (RF), and artificial neural network (ANN). Finally, we evaluated the performance of the model using performance evaluation metrics such as precision, recall, F1-Score, accuracy, and AUC. Experimental results show that the SECNN model has an accuracy of 94.12% on the NHANES dataset and an accuracy of 89.47% on the PIMA Indian dataset. SECNN models and CNN models show significant improvements in diabetes prediction performance compared to traditional ML models. The comparative analysis of the SECNN model and the CNN model has significantly improved performance, further verifying the advantages of introducing the channel attention mechanism. Electricity load forecasting is a crucial undertaking within all the deregulated markets globally. Among the research challenges on a global scale, the investigation of deep transfer learning (DTL) in the field of electricity load forecasting represents a fundamental effort that can inform artificial intelligence applications in general. In this paper, a comprehensive study is reported regarding day-ahead electricity load forecasting. For this purpose, three sequence-to-sequence (Seq2seq) deep learning (DL) models are used, namely the multilayer perceptron (MLP), the convolutional neural network (CNN) and the ensemble learning model (ELM), which consists of the weighted combination of the outputs of MLP and CNN models. Also, the study focuses on the development of different forecasting strategies based on DTL, emphasizing the way the datasets are trained and fine-tuned for higher forecasting accuracy. In order to implement the forecasting strategies using deep learning models, load datasets from three Greek islands, Rhodes, Lesvos, and Chios, are used. The main purpose is to apply DTL for day-ahead predictions (1–24 h) for each month of the year for the Chios dataset after training and fine-tuning the models using the datasets of the three islands in various combinations. Four DTL strategies are illustrated. In the first strategy (DTL Case 1), each of the three DL models is trained using only the Lesvos dataset, while fine-tuning is performed on the dataset of Chios island, in order to create day-ahead predictions for the Chios load. In the second strategy (DTL Case 2), data from both Lesvos and Rhodes concurrently are used for the DL model training period, and fine-tuning is performed on the data from Chios. The third DTL strategy (DTL Case 3) involves the training of the DL models using the Lesvos dataset, and the testing period is performed directly on the Chios dataset without fine-tuning. The fourth strategy is a multi-task deep learning (MTDL) approach, which has been extensively studied in recent years. In MTDL, the three DL models are trained simultaneously on all three datasets and the final predictions are made on the unknown part of the dataset of Chios. The results obtained demonstrate that DTL can be applied with high efficiency for day-ahead load forecasting. Specifically, DTL Case 1 and 2 outperformed MTDL in terms of load prediction accuracy. Regarding the DL models, all three exhibit very high prediction accuracy, especially in the two cases with fine-tuning. The ELM excels compared to the single models. More specifically, for conducting day-ahead predictions, it is concluded that the MLP model presents the best monthly forecasts with MAPE values of 6.24% and 6.01% for the first two cases, the CNN model presents the best monthly forecasts with MAPE values of 5.57% and 5.60%, respectively, and the ELM model achieves the best monthly forecasts with MAPE values of 5.29% and 5.31%, respectively, indicating the very high accuracy it can achieve. In this paper, we introduce Wide-TSNet, a novel hybrid approach for predicting Bitcoin prices using time-series data transformed into images. The method involves converting time-series data into Markov transition fields (MTFs), enhancing them using histogram equalization, and classifying them using Wide ResNets, a type of convolutional neural network (CNN). We propose a tripartite classification system to accurately represent Bitcoin price trends. In addition, we demonstrate the effectiveness of Wide-TSNet through various experiments, in which it achieves an Accuracy of approximately 94% and an F1 score of 90%. This paper delves into the realm of human activity recognition (HAR) by leveraging the capabilities of Siamese neural networks (SNNs), focusing on the comparative effectiveness of contrastive and triplet learning approaches. Against the backdrop of HAR's growing importance in healthcare, sports, and smart environments, the need for advanced models capable of accurately recognizing and classifying complex human activities has become paramount. Addressing this, we have introduced a Siamese network architecture integrated with convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for spatial feature extraction, bidirectional LSTM (Bi-LSTM) for temporal dependency capture, and attention mechanisms to prioritize salient features. Employing both contrastive and triplet loss functions, we meticulously analyze the impact of these learning approaches on the network's ability to generate discriminative embeddings for HAR tasks. Continuous efforts were made in detecting cracks in images. Varied CNN models were developed and tested for detecting or segmenting crack regions. However, most datasets used in previous works contained clearly distinctive crack images. No previous methods were validated on blurry cracks captured in low definitions. Therefore, this paper presented a framework of detecting the regions of blurred, indistinct concrete cracks. The framework divides an image into small square patches which are classified into crack or non-crack. Well-known CNN models were employed for the classification and compared with each other with experimental tests. This paper also elaborated on critical factors—the patch size and the way of labeling patches—which had considerable influences on the training performance. Furthermore, a series of post-processes for measuring crack lengths were introduced. Simple Summary: Constructing a contactless pig mass estimation method through computer vision technology can help us to adjust our pig breeding program to improve production efficiency. Due to the complexity of the actual production environment, there are few reports on pig mass estimation in an unconstrained environment. In this study, we constructed a pig mass estimate model based on deep learning without constraint. The experimental results proved that the pig body mass estimation model constructed in this paper can quickly and accurately obtain the body mass of pigs. The model can evaluate the body quality of sows in real-time in an unconstrained environment, thereby providing data support for grading and adjusting breeding plans, and has broad application prospects. The body mass of pigs is an essential indicator of their growth and health. Lately, contactless pig body mass estimation methods based on computer vision technology have gained attention thanks to their potential to improve animal welfare and ensure breeders' safety. Nonetheless, current methods require pigs to be restrained in a confinement pen, and no study has been conducted in an unconstrained environment. In this study, we develop a pig mass estimation model based on deep learning, capable of estimating body mass without constraints. Our model comprises a Mask R-CNN-based pig instance segmentation algorithm, a Keypoint R-CNN-based pig keypoint detection algorithm and an improved ResNet-based pig mass estimation algorithm that includes multi-branch convolution, depthwise convolution, and an inverted bottleneck to improve accuracy. We constructed a dataset for this study using images and body mass data from 117 pigs. Our model achieved an RMSE of 3.52 kg on the test set, which is lower than that of the pig body mass estimation algorithm with ResNet and ConvNeXt as the backbone network, and the average estimation speed was 0.339 s·frame−1 Our model can evaluate the body quality of pigs in real-time to provide data support for grading and adjusting breeding plans, and has broad application prospects. The diagnosis of different pathologies and stages of cancer using whole histopathology slide images (WSI) is the gold standard for determining the degree of tissue metastasis. The use of deep learning systems in the field of medical images, especially histopathology images, is becoming increasingly important. The training and optimization of deep neural network models involve fine-tuning parameters and hyperparameters such as learning rate, batch size (BS), and boost to improve the performance of the model in task-specific applications. Tuning hyperparameters is a major challenge in designing deep neural network models, having a large impact on the performance. This paper analyzes how the parameters and hyperparameters of a deep learning architecture affect the classification of colorectal cancer (CRC) histopathology images using the well-known VGG19 model. This paper also discusses the pre-processing of these images, such as the use of color normalization and stretching transformations on the data set. Among these hyperparameters, the most important neural network hyperparameter is the learning rate (LR). In this paper, different strategies for the optimization of LR are analyzed (both static and dynamic) and a new experiment based on the variation of LR is proposed (the relevance of dynamic strategies over fixed LR is highlighted), after each layer of the neural network together with decreasing variations according to the epochs. Automatic image description, also known as image captioning, aims to describe the elements included in an image and their relationships. This task involves two research fields: computer vision and natural language processing; thus, it has received much attention in computer science. In this review paper, we follow the Kitchenham review methodology to present the most relevant approaches to image description methodologies based on deep learning. We focused on works using convolutional neural networks (CNN) to extract the characteristics of images and recurrent neural networks (RNN) for automatic sentence generation. As a result, 53 research articles using the encoder-decoder approach were selected, focusing only on supervised learning. The main contributions of this systematic review are: (i) to describe the most relevant image description papers implementing an encoder-decoder approach from 2014 to 2022 and (ii) to determine the main architectures, datasets, and metrics that have been applied to image description. Due to the advantages of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), the study of Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) has become a hot topic. Deep learning, especially in the case of a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), works in an end-to-end way and has powerful feature-extracting abilities. Thus, researchers in SAR ATR also seek solutions from deep learning. We review the related algorithms with regard to SAR ATR in this paper. We firstly introduce the commonly used datasets and the evaluation metrics. Then, we introduce the algorithms before deep learning. They are template-matching-, machine-learning- and model-based methods. After that, we introduce mainly the SAR ATR methods in the deep-learning era (after 2017); those methods are the core of the paper. The non-CNNs and CNNs, that is, those used in SAR ATR, are summarized at the beginning. We found that researchers tend to design specialized CNN for SAR ATR. Then, the methods to solve the problem raised by limited samples are reviewed. They are data augmentation, Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), electromagnetic simulation, transfer learning, few-shot learning, semi-supervised learning, metric leaning and domain knowledge. After that, the imbalance problem, real-time recognition, polarimetric SAR, complex data and adversarial attack are also reviewed. The principles and problems of them are also introduced. Finally, the future directions are conducted. In this part, we point out that the dataset, CNN architecture designing, knowledge-driven, real-time recognition, explainable and adversarial attack should be considered in the future. Seismic impedance inversion is a vital way of geological interpretation and reservoir investigation from a geophysical perspective. However, it is inevitably an ill-posed problem due to the noise or the band-limited characteristic of seismic data. Artificial neural network have been used to solve nonlinear inverse problems in recent years. This research obtained an acoustic impedance profile by feeding seismic profile and background impedance into a well-trained self-attention U-Net. The U-Net got convergence by appropriate iteration, and the output predicted the impedance profiles in the test. To value the quality of predicted profiles from different perspectives, e.g., correlation, regression, and similarity, we used four kinds of indexes. At the same time, our results were predicted by conventional methods (e.g., deconvolution with recursive inversion, and TV regularization) and a 1D neural network was calculated in contrast. Self-attention U-Net showed to be robust to noise and does not require prior knowledge. Furthermore, spatial continuity is also better than deconvolution, regularization, and 1D deep learning methods in contrast. The U-Net in this paper is a type of full convolutional neural network, so there are no limits to the shape of the input. Based on this, a large impedance profile can be predicted by U-Net, which is trained by a patchy training dataset. In addition, this paper applied the proposed method to the field data obtained by the Ceduna survey without any label. Urdu is a complex language as it is an amalgam of many South Asian and East Asian languages; hence, its character recognition is a huge and difficult task. It is a bidirectional language with its numerals written from left to right while script is written in opposite direction which induces complexities in the recognition process. This paper presents the recognition and classification of a novel Urdu numeral dataset using convolutional neural network (CNN) and its variants. We propose custom CNN model to extract features which are used by Softmax activation function and support vector machine (SVM) classifier. We compare it with GoogLeNet and the residual network (ResNet) in terms of performance. Our proposed CNN gives an accuracy of 98.41% with the Softmax classifier and 99.0% with the SVM classifier. For GoogLeNet, we achieve an accuracy of 95.61% and 96.4% on ResNet. Moreover, we develop datasets for handwritten Urdu numbers and numbers of Pakistani currency to incorporate real-life problems. With the development of deep learning technology, various structures and research methods for the super-resolution restoration of natural images and document images have been introduced. In particular, a number of recent studies have been conducted and developed in image restoration using generative adversarial networks. Super-resolution restoration is an ill-posed problem because of some complex restraints, such as many high-resolution images being restored for the same low-resolution image, as well as difficulty in restoring noises such as edges, light smudging, and blurring. In this study, we applied super-resolution restoration to text images using the spatially adaptive denormalization (SPADE) structure, different from previous methods. This paper used SPADE for document image restoration to solve previous problems such as edge unclearness, hardness to catch features of texts, and the image color transition. As a result of this study, it can be confirmed that the edge of the character and the ambiguous stroke are restored more clearly when contrasting with the other previously suggested methods. To address the problem that the spatial coordinates introduced in the traditional multi-point deformation prediction model of dams not being able to accurately and efficiently reflect the spatial correlation of multiple-measuring points, a 2D-1D-CNN model is proposed which expresses the spatial correlation between each measuring point through spatial feature vectors, replacing the spatial coordinates in the traditional multi-point model. First, the spatial feature vector is extracted from the historical spatio-temporal panel series of deformation values of measuring points via a Two-Dimensional Convolutional Neural Network (2D-CNN); second, the vector is combined with the environmental impact factor of dam deformation to form the final input factor of fused spatial features; and, thirdly, this vector is combined with the environmental impact factors of dam deformation to form the final input factor of fused spatial features, and the non-linear linkage between the factors and the measured displacement values is constructed by the efficient feature processing capability of a One-Dimensional Convolutional Neural Network (1D-CNN) to obtain the prediction results. Finally, the actual monitoring data of a concrete dam in China are used as an example to verify the validity of the model. The new generation of available (i.e., PRISMA, ENMAP, DESIS) and future (i.e., ESA-CHIME, NASA-SBG) spaceborne hyperspectral missions provide unprecedented data for environmental and agricultural monitoring, such as crop trait assessment. This paper focuses on retrieving two crop traits, specifically Chlorophyll and Nitrogen content at the canopy level (CCC and CNC), starting from hyperspectral images acquired during the CHIME-RCS project, exploiting a self-supervised learning (SSL) technique. SSL is a machine learning paradigm that leverages unlabeled data to generate valuable representations for downstream tasks, bridging the gap between unsupervised and supervised learning. The proposed method comprises pre-training and fine-tuning procedures: in the first stage, a de-noising Convolutional Autoencoder is trained using pairs of noisy and clean CHIME-like images; the pre-trained Encoder network is utilized as-is or fine-tuned in the second stage. The paper demonstrates the applicability of this technique in hybrid approach methods that combine Radiative Transfer Modelling (RTM) and Machine Learning Regression Algorithm (MLRA) to set up a retrieval schema able to estimate crop traits from new generation space-born hyperspectral data. Embedded systems are the best solution to achieve high-performance edge terminal computing tasks. With the rapid increase in the amount of data generated by edge devices, it is imperative to implement intelligent algorithms with large amounts of data and computation on embedded terminal systems. In this paper, a novel multi-core ARM-based embedded hardware platform with a three-dimensional mesh structure was first established to support the decentralized algorithms. To deploy deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in this embedded parallel environment, a distributed mapping mechanism was proposed to efficiently decentralize computation tasks in the form of a multi-branch assembly line. In addition, a dimensionality reduction initialization method was also utilized to successfully resolve the conflict between the storage requirement of computation tasks and the limited physical memories. LeNet-5 networks with different sizes were optimized and implemented in the embedded platform to verify the performance of our proposed strategies. The results showed that memory usage can be controlled within the usable range through dimensionality reduction. The down-sampling layer as the base point of the mapping for the inter-layer segmentation achieved the optimal operation in lateral dispersion with a reduction of around 10% in the running time compared with the other layers. Further, the computing speed for a network with an input size of 105 × 105 in the multi-core parallel environment is nearly 20 times faster than that in a single-core system. The use of deep learning techniques in real-time monitoring can save a lot of manpower in various scenarios. For example, mask-wearing is an effective measure to prevent COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases, especially for vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and people with underlying health problems. Currently, many public places such as hospitals, nursing homes, social service facilities, and schools experiencing outbreaks require mandatory mask-wearing. However, most of the terminal devices currently available have very limited GPU capability to run large neural networks. This means that we have to keep the parameter size of a neural network modest while maintaining its performance. In this paper, we propose a framework that applies deep learning techniques to real-time monitoring and uses it for the real-time monitoring of mask-wearing status. The main contributions are as follows: First, a feature fusion technique called skip layer pooling fusion (SLPF) is proposed for image classification tasks. It fully utilizes both deep and shallow features of a convolutional neural network while minimizing the growth in model parameters caused by feature fusion. On average, this technique improves the accuracy of various neural network models by 4.78% and 5.21% on CIFAR100 and Tiny-ImageNet, respectively. Second, layer attention (LA), an attention mechanism tailor-made for feature fusion, is proposed. Since different layers of convolutional neural networks make different impacts on the final prediction results, LA learns a set of weights to better enhance the contribution of important convolutional layer features. On average, it improves the accuracy of various neural network models by 2.10% and 2.63% on CIFAR100 and Tiny-ImageNet, respectively. Third, a MobileNetv2-based lightweight mask-wearing status classification model is trained, which is suitable for deployment on mobile devices and achieves an accuracy of 95.49%. Additionally, a ResNet mask-wearing status classification model is trained, which has a larger model size but achieves high accuracy of 98.14%. By applying the proposed methods to the ResNet mask-wearing status classification model, the accuracy is improved by 1.58%. Fourth, a mask-wearing status detection model is enhanced based on YOLOv5 with a spatial-frequency fusion module resulting in a mAP improvement of 2.20%. Short-to-medium-term electric load forecasting is crucial for grid planning, transformation, and load scheduling for power supply departments. Various complex and ever-changing factors such as weather, seasons, regional economic structures, and enterprise production cycles exert uncontrollable effects on the electric grid load. While the causal convolutional neural network can significantly enhance long-term sequence prediction, it may suffer from problems such as vanishing gradients and overfitting due to extended time series. To address this issue, this paper introduces a new power load data anomaly detection method, which leverages a convolutional neural network (CNN) to extract temporal and spatial information from the load data. The features extracted are then processed using a bidirectional long short-term memory network (BiLSTM) to capture the temporal dependencies in the data more adeptly. An enhanced random forest (RF) classifier is employed for anomaly detection in electric load data. Furthermore, the paper proposes a new model framework for electricity load forecasting that combines a dilated causal convolutional neural network with ensemble learning. This combination addresses issues such as vanishing gradients encountered in causal convolutional neural networks with long time series. Extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), category boosting (CATBoost), and light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM) models act as the base learners for ensemble modeling to comprehend deep cross-features, and the prediction results generated by ensemble learning serve as a new feature set for secondary ensemble modeling. The dilated convolutional neural network broadens the receptive field of the convolutional kernel. All acquired feature values are concatenated and input into the dilated causal convolutional neural network for training, achieving short-to-medium-term electric load forecasting. Experimental results indicate that compared to existing models, its root mean squared error (RMSE) and mean squared error (MSE) in short-term and mid-term electricity load forecasting are reduced by 4.96% and 12.31%, respectively, underscoring the efficacy of the proposed framework. Diabetes is a widely spread disease that significantly affects people's lives. The leading cause is uncontrolled levels of blood glucose, which develop eye defects over time, including Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), which results in severe visual loss. The primary factor causing blindness is considered to be DR in diabetic patients. DR treatment tries to control the disease's severity, as it is irreversible. The primary goal of this effort is to create a reliable method for automatically detecting the severity of DR. This paper proposes a new automated system (DR-NASNet) to detect and classify DR severity using an improved pretrained NASNet Model. To develop the DR-NASNet system, we first utilized a preprocessing technique that takes advantage of Ben Graham and CLAHE to lessen noise, emphasize lesions, and ultimately improve DR classification performance. Taking into account the imbalance between classes in the dataset, data augmentation procedures were conducted to control overfitting. Next, we have integrated dense blocks into the NASNet architecture to improve the effectiveness of classification results for five severity levels of DR. In practice, the DR-NASNet model achieves state-of-the-art results with a smaller model size and lower complexity. To test the performance of the DR-NASNet system, a combination of various datasets is used in this paper. To learn effective features from DR images, we used a pretrained model on the dataset. The last step is to put the image into one of five categories: No DR, Mild, Moderate, Proliferate, or Severe. To carry this out, the classifier layer of a linear SVM with a linear activation function must be added. The DR-NASNet system was tested using six different experiments. The system achieves 96.05% accuracy with the challenging DR dataset. The results and comparisons demonstrate that the DR-NASNet system improves a model's performance and learning ability. Object detection is a computer vision task of detecting instances of objects of a certain class, identifying types of objects, determining its location, and accurately labelling them in an input image or a video. The scope of the work presented within this paper proposes a modern object detection network called NextDet to efficiently detect objects of multiple classes which utilizes CondenseNeXt, an award-winning lightweight image classification convolutional neural network algorithm with reduced number of FLOPs and parameters as the backbone, to efficiently extract and aggregate image features at different granularities in addition to other novel and modified strategies such as attentive feature aggregation in the head, to perform object detection and draw bounding boxes around the detected objects. Extensive experiments and ablation tests, as outlined in this paper, are performed on Argoverse-HD and COCO datasets, which provide numerous temporarily sparse to dense annotated images, demonstrate that the proposed object detection algorithm with CondenseNeXt as the backbone result in an increase in mean Average Precision (mAP) performance and interpretability on Argoverse-HD's monocular ego-vehicle camera captured scenarios by up to 17.39% as well as COCO's large set of images of everyday scenes of real-world common objects by up to 14.62%. In recent years, with the development of geological prospecting from shallow ore to deep and hidden ore, the difficulty of prospecting is increasing day by day, so the application of computer technology and new methods of geological and mineral exploration is paid more and more attention. The mining and prediction of geological prospecting information based on deep learning have become the frontier field of earth science. However, as a deep artificial intelligence algorithm, deep learning still has many problems to be solved in the big data mining and prediction of geological prospecting, such as the small number of training samples of geological and mineral images, the difficulty of building deep learning network models, and the universal applicability of deep learning models. In this paper, the training samples and convolutional neural network models suitable for geochemical element data mining are constructed to solve the above problems, and the model is successfully applied to the prediction research of gold, silver, lead and zinc polymetallic metallogenic areas in South China. Taking the Pangxidong research area in the west of Guangdong Province as an example, this paper carries out prospecting target prediction research based on a 1:50000 stream sediment survey original data. Firstly, the support vector machine (SVM) model and statistical method were used to determine the ore-related geochemical element assemblage. Secondly, the experimental data of geochemical elements were augmented and a dataset was established. Finally, ResNet-50 neural network model is used for data training and prediction research. The experimental results show that the areas numbered 9, 29, 38, 40, 95, 111, 114, 124, 144 have great metallogenic potential, and this method would be a promising tool for metallogenic prediction. By applying the ResNet-50 neural network in metallogenic prediction, it can provide a new idea for the future exploration of mineral resources. In order to verify the generality of the research method in this paper, we conducted experimental tests on the geochemical dataset of B area, another deposit research area in South China. The results show that 100% of the prediction area obtained by using the proposed method covers the known ore deposit area. As we know, image colorization is widely used in computer graphics and has become a research hotspot in the field of image processing. Current image colorization technology has the phenomenon of single coloring effect and unreal color, which is too complicated to be implemented and struggled to gain popularity. In this paper, a new method based on a convolution neural network is proposed to study the reasonable coloring of human images and ensures the realism of the coloring effect and the diversity of coloring at the same time. First, this paper selects about 5000 pictures of people and plants from the Imagenet dataset and makes a small dataset containing only people and backgrounds. Secondly, in order to obtain the image segmentation results, this paper improves the U-net network and carries out three times of down sampling and three times of up-sampling. Finally, we add the expanded convolution, and use the sigmoid activation function to replace the ReLU (The Rectified Linear Unit) activation function and put the BN (Batch Normalization) before the activation function. Experimental results show that our proposed image colorization algorithm based on the deep learning scheme can reduce the training time of the network and achieve higher quality segmentation results. To effectively treat lung and colon cancer and save lives, early and accurate identification is essential. Conventional diagnosis takes a long time and requires the manual expertise of radiologists. The rising number of new cancer cases makes it challenging to process massive volumes of data quickly. Different machine learning approaches to the classification and detection of lung and colon cancer have been proposed by multiple research studies. However, when it comes to self-learning classification and detection tasks, deep learning (DL) excels. This paper suggests a novel DL convolutional neural network (CNN) model for detecting lung and colon cancer. The proposed model is lightweight and multi-scale since it uses only 1.1 million parameters, making it appropriate for real-time applications as it provides an end-to-end solution. By incorporating features extracted at multiple scales, the model can effectively capture both local and global patterns within the input data. The explainability tools such as gradient-weighted class activation mapping and Shapley additive explanation can identify potential problems by highlighting the specific input data areas that have an impact on the model's choice. The experimental findings demonstrate that for lung and colon cancer detection, the proposed model was outperformed by the competition and accuracy rates of 99.20% have been achieved for multi-class (containing five classes) predictions.
