With the number of new satellites increasing dramatically, comprehensive space surveillance is becoming increasingly important. Therefore, high-resolution inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) imaging of satellites can provide an in-situ assessment of the satellites. This paper demonstrates that pseudo-noise signals can also be used for satellite imaging, in addition to classical linear frequency-modulated chirp signals. Pseudo-noise transmission signals offer the advantage of very low cross-correlation values. This, for instance, enables the possibility of a system with multiple channels transmitting instantaneously. Furthermore, it can significantly reduce signal interference with other systems operating in the same frequency spectrum, which is of particular interest for high-bandwidth, high-power systems such as satellite imaging radars. A new routine has been introduced to generate a wideband pseudo-noise signal with a peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) similar to that of a chirp signal. This is essential for applications where the transmit signal power budget is sharply limited by the high-power amplifier. The attainment of a substantial aperture in the rotating synthetic aperture imaging system involves the rotation of a slender rectangular primary mirror. This constitutes a pivotal avenue of exploration in space telescope research. Due to the considerable aspect ratio of the primary mirror, environmental disturbances can significantly impact its surface shape. Active optical technology can rectify surface shape irregularities through the detection of wavefront information. The Phase Diversity (PD) method utilizes images captured by the imaging system to compute wavefront information. In this study, the PD method is applied to rotating synthetic and other rectangular aperture imaging systems, employing Legendre polynomials to model the wavefront. The UAV-borne video SAR (ViSAR) imaging system requires miniaturization, low power consumption, high frame rates, and high-resolution real-time imaging. In order to satisfy the requirements of real-time imaging processing for the UAV-borne ViSAR under limited memory and parallel computing resources, this paper proposes a method of embedded GPU-based real-time imaging processing for the UAV-borne ViSAR. Based on a parallel programming model of the compute unified device architecture (CUDA), this paper designed a parallel computing method for range-Doppler (RD) and map drift (MD) algorithms. By utilizing the advantages of the embedded GPU characterized with parallel computing, we improved the processing speed of real-time ViSAR imaging. This paper also adopted a unified memory management method, which greatly reduces data replication and communication latency between the CPU and the GPU. The data processing of 2048 × 2048 points took only 1.215 s on the Jetson AGX Orin platform to form a nine-consecutive-frame image with a resolution of 0.15 m, with each frame taking only 0.135 s, enabling real-time imaging at a high frame rate of 5 Hz. In actual testing, continuous mapping can be achieved without losing the scenes, intuitively obtaining the dynamic observation effects of the area. The processing results of the measured data have verified the reliability and effectiveness of the proposed scheme, satisfying the processing requirements for real-time ViSAR imaging. Conventional squinted sliding spotlight synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging suffers from substantial swath width reduction and complex processing requirements due to the continuous variation in the squint angle and the large range cell migration (RCM) throughout the data acquisition interval. A novel two-dimensional (2D) beam scanning mode for high-resolution wide swath (HRWS) imaging is proposed. The key to the novel imaging mode lies in the synchronous scanning of azimuth and range beams, allowing for a broader and more flexible imaging swath with a high geometric resolution. Azimuth beam scanning from fore to aft was used to improve the azimuth resolution, while range beam scanning was adopted to illuminate the oblique wide swath to avoid the large RCM and the serious swath width reduction. Compared with the conventional sliding spotlight mode, both the swath width and swath length could be extended. According to the echo model of this imaging mode, an echo signal preprocessing approach is proposed. The key points of this approach are range data extension and azimuth data upsampling. A designed system example with a resolution of 0.5 m, swath width of 60 km, and azimuth coverage length of 134 km is presented. Furthermore, a simulation experiment on point targets was carried out. Terahertz video synthetic aperture radar (THz-ViSAR) has tremendous research and application value due to its high resolution and high frame rate imaging benefits. However, it requires more efficient imaging algorithms. Thus, a novel multistage back projection fast imaging algorithm for the THz-ViSAR system is proposed in this paper to enable continuous playback of images like video. The radar echo data of the entire aperture is first divided into multiple sub-apertures, as with the fast-factorized back projection algorithm (FFBP). However, there are two improvements in sub-aperture imaging. On the one hand, the back projection algorithm (BPA) is replaced by the polar format algorithm (PFA) to improve the sub-aperture imaging efficiency. The imaging process, on the other hand, uses the global Cartesian coordinate system rather than the local polar coordinate system, and the wavenumber domain data of the full aperture are obtained step by step through simple splicing and fusion, avoiding the amount of two-dimensional (2D) interpolation operations required for local polar coordinate system transformation in FFBP. Finally, 2D interpolation for full-resolution images is carried out to image the ground object targets in the same coordinate system due to the geometric distortion caused by linear phase error (LPE) and the mismatch of coordinate systems in different imaging frames. The simulation experiments of point targets and surface targets both verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed algorithm. The visibility samples generated by the synthetic aperture interferometric radiometer (SAIR) under near-field observation conditions contain information about the distance from the target to the instrument. This requires a precise understanding of the target–instrument distance to guarantee imaging quality in near-field SAIR applications. In this paper, we introduce a novel distance estimate approach for near-field SAIR systems, which achieves satisfactory imaging performance in the absence of prior information on target–instrument distance. First, we reformulate the signal model of near-field SAIR from the fractional Fourier transform (FRFT) perspective. This formulation ties the distance that is variable to the visibility function in a straightforward manner, offering an efficient solution for image reconstruction in near-field SAIR. Subsequently, we present an iterative strategy for target–instrument distance estimation based on simulated annealing (SA). In each iteration, the modified average gradient (MAG) of images reconstructed within the FRFT framework is evaluated, and based on the Metropolis criterion, the estimated target–instrument distance is optimally updated iteratively. Finally, the validity and effectiveness of the proposed distance estimation method for near-field SAIR imaging systems are demonstrated through numerical simulation and real experiments. An arc array synthetic aperture radar (AA-SAR) is a new type of omnidirectional observation and imaging system. Based on linear array 3D imaging, this paper introduces a keystone algorithm combined with the arc array SAR 2D imaging method and proposes a modified 3D imaging algorithm based on keystone transformation. The first step is to discuss the target azimuth angle, retain the far-field approximation method of the first-order term, analyze the influence of the forward motion of the platform on the along-track position, and realize the two-dimensional focusing of the target slant range–azimuth direction. The second step is to redefine a new azimuth angle variable in the slant-range along-track imaging and use the keystone-based processing algorithm in the range frequency domain to eliminate the coupling term generated by the array angle and the slant-range time. The corrected data are used to perform along-track pulse compression to obtain the focused image of the target and realize the three-dimensional imaging of the target. Finally, in this article, the spatial resolution of the AA-SAR system in the forward-looking state is analyzed in detail, and the change in the spatial resolution of the system and the effectiveness of the algorithm are verified through simulation. The novel rotating synthetic aperture (RSA) is a new optical imaging system that uses the method of rotating the rectangular primary mirror for dynamic imaging. It has the advantage of being lightweight, with no need for splicing and real-time surface shape maintenance on orbit. The novel imaging method leads to complex image quality degradation characteristics. Therefore, it is vital to use the image quality improvement method to restore and improve the image quality to meet the application requirements. For the RSA system, a new system that has not been applied in orbit, it is difficult to construct suitable large datasets. Therefore, it is necessary to study and establish the dynamic imaging characteristic model of the RSA system, and on this basis provide data support for the corresponding image super resolution and restoration method through simulation. In this paper, we first analyze the imaging characteristics and mathematically model the rectangular rotary pupil of the RSA system. On this basis, combined with the analysis of the physical interpretation of the blur kernel, we find that the optimal blur kernel is not the point spread function (PSF) of the imaging system. Therefore, the simulation method of convolving the input image directly with the PSF is flawed. Furthermore, the weights of a convolutional neural network (CNN) are the same for each input. This means that the normal convolutional layer is not only difficult to accurately estimate the time-varying blur kernel, but also difficult to adapt to the change in the length–width ratio of the primary mirror. To that end, we propose a blur kernel estimation conditional convolutional neural network (CCNN) that is equivalent to multiple normal CNNs. We extend the CNN to a conditional model by taking an encoding as an additional input and using conditionally parameterized convolutions instead of normal convolutions. The CCNN can simulate the imaging characteristics of the rectangular pupil with different length–width ratios and different rotation angles in a controllable manner. The results of semi-physical experiments show that the proposed simulation method achieves a satisfactory performance, which can provide data and theoretical support for the image restoration and super-resolution method of the RSA system. The monitoring of ships is of paramount importance for ocean and coastal area surveillance. The synthetic aperture radar is shown to be a key sensor to provide effective and continuous observation of ships due to its unique imaging capabilities. When advanced synthetic aperture radar imaging systems are considered, the full scattering information is available that was demonstrated to be beneficial in developing improved ship detection and classification algorithms. Nonetheless, the capability of polarimetric synthetic aperture radar to observe marine vessels is significantly affected by several imaging and environmental parameters, including the incidence angle. Nonetheless, how changes in the incidence angle affect the scattering of ships still needs to be further investigated since only a sparse analysis, i.e., on different kinds of ships of different sizes observed at multiple incidence angles, has been performed. Hence, in this study, for the first time, the polarimetric scattering of the same ship, i.e., a small fishing trawler, which is imaged multiple times under the same sea state conditions but in a wide range of incidence angles, is analysed. This unique opportunity is provided by a premium L-band UAVSAR airborne dataset that consists of five full-polarimetric synthetic aperture radar scenes collected in the Gulf of Mexico. Experimental results highlight the key role played by the incidence angle on both coherent, i.e., co-polarisation signature and pedestal height, and incoherent, i.e., multi-polarisation and total backscattering power, polarimetric scattering descriptors. Experimental results show that: (1) the polarised scattering component is more sensitive to the incidence angle with respect to the unpolarised one; (2) the co-polarised channel under horizontal polarisation dominated the polarimetric backscattering from the fishing trawler at lower angles of incidence, while both co-polarised channels contribute to the polarimetric backscattering at higher incidence angles; (3) the HV polarisation provides the largest target-to-clutter ratio at lower incidence angles, while the HH polarisation should be preferred at higher angles of incidence. Near-field high-resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging is mostly accompanied by a large number of data acquisition processes, which increases the system complexity and device cost. According to extensive reports, reducing the number of sampling points of a radar in space can greatly reduce the amount of data. However, when spatial sparse sampling is carried out, a ghost normally appears in the imaging results due to the high side lobes generated in the azimuth. To address this issue, a technique is introduced in this paper to recover the blank data through amplitude and phase compensation based on the correlation between sparse array sampling through adjacent points. Firstly, the data sampled by the sparse array is compressed in the range direction to obtain the expected data slices in the same range direction. Then, the blank element of the slice is compensated for with amplitude and phase to obtain full aperture data. Finally, the matched filter method is used to aid in the image reconstruction. The simulation results verified that the method proposed in this paper can effectively reconstruct the image under two kinds of sparse sampling conditions. Thus, a simple single-input single-output (SISO) synthetic aperture radar imaging test bench is established. Compared with the results of a 1 mm (1/4 λ) sampling interval, the quality of the reconstructed image under the condition of a 4 mm (1 λ) sampling interval still stands using our proposed method. Demonstrated by the experiment, the normalized root-mean-square error(NMSE) is 5.75%. Additionally, when the spatial sampling points are sampled randomly with 30% of the full sampling condition, this method can also restore and reconstruct the image with high quality. Due to the decrease of sampling points, the data volume can be reduced, which is beneficial for improving the scanning speed and alleviating the pressure of data transmission for near-field high resolution SAR imaging systems. Accurate and efficient moving target imaging is an important challenge for targets recognition in current synthetic aperture radar (SAR) combined with a ground moving target indication (GMTI) system. As the key but unknown parameter, the Doppler rates are estimated conventionally by searching any possible values for moving targets imaging. However, this conventional estimation method suffers from low accuracy or low efficiency due to the searching procedure. Focusing on these, we present a method to efficiently image the moving targets without the Doppler rate by Doppler delayed interferometry, and the imaged localization, which is parameterized pseudo-localization, is used to estimate the Doppler rate. In order to improve the estimation accuracy, an improved method based on the Newton method of approximation is proposed by exploiting the unused amplitude information. Compared with the conventional methods, the proposed improved method capable of high accuracy and low computation complexity simultaneously can meet the accurate and efficient requirements in the practical applications. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is a well-established and powerful imaging technique for acquiring high-spatial-resolution images of the Earth's surface. With the development of beam steering techniques, sliding spotlight and staring spotlight modes have been employed to support high-spatial-resolution applications. In addition to this strengthened high-spatial-resolution and wide-swath capability, high-temporal-resolution (short repeat-observation interval) represents a key capability for numerous applications. However, conventional SAR systems are limited in that the same patch can only be illuminated for several seconds within a single pass. This paper considers a novel high-squint-angle system intended to acquire high-spatial-resolution spaceborne SAR images with repeat-observation intervals varying from tens of seconds to several minutes within a single pass. However, an exponentially increased range cell migration would arise and lead to a conflict between the receive window and 'blind ranges'. An efficient data acquisition technique for high-temporal-resolution, high-spatial-resolution and high-squint-angle spaceborne SAR, in which the pulse repetition frequency (PRF) is continuously varied according to the changing slant range, is presented in this paper. This technique allows echo data to remain in the receive window instead of conflicting with the transmitted pulse or nadir echo. Considering the precision of hardware, a compromise and practical strategy is also proposed. Furthermore, a detailed performance analysis of range ambiguities is provided with respect to parameters of TerraSAR-X. For strong point-like targets, the range ambiguity of this technique would be better than that of uniform PRF technique. For this innovative technique, a resampling strategy and modified imaging algorithm have been developed to handle the non-uniformly sampled echo data. Heavy occlusions in cluttered scenes impose significant challenges to many computer vision applications. Recent light field imaging systems provide new see-through capabilities through synthetic aperture imaging (SAI) to overcome the occlusion problem. Existing synthetic aperture imaging methods, however, emulate focusing at a specific depth layer, but are incapable of producing an all-in-focus see-through image. Alternative in-painting algorithms can generate visually-plausible results, but cannot guarantee the correctness of the results. In this paper, we present a novel depth-free all-in-focus SAI technique based on light field visibility analysis. Specifically, we partition the scene into multiple visibility layers to directly deal with layer-wise occlusion and apply an optimization framework to propagate the visibility information between multiple layers. On each layer, visibility and optimal focus depth estimation is formulated as a multiple-label energy minimization problem. The layer-wise energy integrates all of the visibility masks from its previous layers, multi-view intensity consistency and depth smoothness constraint together. Vegetation resistance influences water flow in floodplains. Characterization of vegetation for hydraulic modeling includes the description of the spatial variability of vegetation type, height and density. In this research, we explored the use of dual polarized Radarsat-2 wide swath mode backscatter coefficients (σ°) and Landsat 5 TM to derive spatial hydraulic roughness. The spatial roughness parameterization included four steps: (i) land use classification from Landsat 5 TM; (ii) establishing a relationship between σ° statistics and vegetation parameters; (iii) relative surface roughness (Ks) determination from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) backscatter temporal variability; (iv) derivation of the spatial distribution of the spatial hydraulic roughness both from Manning's roughness coefficient look up table (LUT) and relative surface roughness. Hydraulic simulations were performed using the FLO-2D hydrodynamic model to evaluate model performance under three different hydraulic modeling simulations results with different Manning's coefficient parameterizations, which includes SWL1, SWL2 and SWL3. SWL1 is simulated water levels with optimum floodplain roughness (np) with channel roughness nc = 0.03 m-1/3/s; SWL2 is simulated water levels with calibrated values for both floodplain roughness np = 0.65 m-1/3/s and channel roughness nc = 0.021 m-1/3/s; and SWL3 is simulated water levels with calibrated channel roughness nc and spatial Manning's coefficients as derived with aid of relative surface roughness. The model performance was evaluated using Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiency coefficient (E) and coefficient of determination (R2), based on water levels measured at a gauging station in the wetland. The overall performance of scenario SWL1 was characterized with E = 0.75 and R2 = 0.95, which was improved in SWL2 to E = 0.95 and R2 = 0.99. When spatially distributed Manning values derived from SAR relative surface values were parameterized in the model, the model also performed well and yielding E = 0.97 and R2 = 0.98. Improved model performance using spatial roughness shows that spatial roughness parameterization can support flood modeling and provide better flood wave simulation over the inundated riparian areas equally as calibrated models. Designing synthetic-aperture radar image formation systems can be challenging due to the numerous options of algorithms and devices that can be used. There are many SAR image formation algorithms, such as backprojection, matched-filter, polar format, Range–Doppler and chirp scaling algorithms. Each algorithm presents its own advantages and disadvantages considering efficiency and image quality; thus, we aim to introduce some of the most common SAR image formation algorithms and compare them based on these two aspects. Depending on the requisites of each individual system and implementation, there are many device options to choose from, for instance, FPGAs, GPUs, CPUs, many-core CPUs, and microcontrollers. We present a review of the state of the art of SAR imaging systems implementations. Owing to the development of spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) platforms, and in particular the increase in the availability of multi-source (multi-band and multi-resolution) data, it is now feasible to design a surface displacement monitoring application using multi-temporal SAR interferometry (MT-InSAR). Landslides have high socio-economic impacts in many countries because of potential geo-hazards and heavy casualties. In this study, taking into account the merits of ALOS PALSAR (L-band, good coherence preservation) and TerraSAR (X-band, high resolution and short revisit times) data, we applied an improved small baseline InSAR (SB-InSAR) with 3-D phase unwrapping approach, to monitor slope superficial displacement in Hong Kong, China, a mountainous subtropical zone city influenced by over-urbanization and heavy monsoonal rains. Results revealed that the synergistic use of PALSAR and TerraSAR data produces different outcomes in relation to data reliability and spatial-temporal resolution, and hence could be of significant value for a comprehensive understanding and monitoring of unstable slopes. Autonomous navigation airborne forward-looking synthetic aperture radar (SAR) observes the anterior inferior wide area with a short cross-track dimensional linear array as azimuth aperture. This is an application scenario that is drastically different from that of side-looking space-borne or air-borne SAR systems, which acquires azimuth synthetic aperture with along-track dimension platform movement. High precision imaging with a combination of pseudo-polar formatting and overlapped sub-aperture algorithm for autonomous navigation airborne forward-looking SAR imaging is presented. With the suggested imaging method, range dimensional imaging is operated with wide band signal compression. Then, 2D pseudo-polar formatting is operated. In the following, azimuth synthetic aperture is divided into several overlapped sub-apertures. Intra sub-aperture IFFT (Inverse Fast Fourier Transform), wave front curvature phase error compensation, and inter sub-aperture IFFT are operated sequentially to finish azimuth high precision imaging. The main advantage of the proposed algorithm is its extremely high precision and low memory cost. The effectiveness and performance of the proposed algorithm are demonstrated with outdoor GBSAR (Ground Based Synthetic Aperture Radar) experiments, which possesses the same imaging geometry as the airborne forward-looking SAR (short azimuth aperture, wide azimuth swath). The profile response of the trihedral angle reflectors, placed in the imaging scene, reconstructed with the proposed imaging algorithm and back projection algorithm are compared and analyzed. This work provides a guide to design ultrasonic synthetic aperture systems for non-grid two-dimensional sparse arrays such as spirals or annular segmented arrays. It presents an algorithm that identifies which elements have a more significant impact on the beampattern characteristics and uses this information to reduce the number of signals, the number of emitters and the number of parallel receiver channels involved in the beamforming process. Consequently, we can optimise the 3D synthetic aperture ultrasonic imaging system for a specific sparse array, reducing the computational cost, the hardware requirements and the system complexity. In multiple-input-multiple-output synthetic aperture radar (MIMO-SAR) systems, sparse arrays are usually applied, resulting in increased sidelobes of the point spread function. In this paper, a phase shift migration (PSM) imaging algorithm based on the explosion reflection model with modified coherent factor was proposed for sidelobe suppression in MIMO-SAR three-dimensional (3D) imaging application. By defining the virtual difference wavenumber, reconstructing the raw echo by data rearrangement in wavenumber domain, the original coherent factor algorithm operating in spatial domain can be achieved by the PSM algorithm frame in the wavenumber domain, which means two orders of magnitude increase in computational efficiency. The correctness of the theory is verified by simulation. Finally, a bistatic prototype imaging system in the 0.3 THz band was designed for the proof-of-principle experiments. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has a 0.948 structural similarity value to the original coherent factor back-projection algorithm (CF-BPA) which means comparable image quality with much superior efficiency. This paper describes the high precision digital sun sensor under development at the University of Naples. The sensor determines the sun line orientation in the sensor frame from the measurement of the sun position on the focal plane. It exploits CMOS technology and an original optical head design with multiple apertures. This allows simultaneous multiple acquisitions of the sun as spots on the focal plane. The sensor can be operated either with a fixed or a variable number of sun spots, depending on the required field of view and sun-line measurement precision. Multiple acquisitions are averaged by using techniques which minimize the computational load to extract the sun line orientation with high precision. Accuracy and computational efficiency are also improved thanks to an original design of the calibration function relying on neural networks. Extensive test campaigns are carried out using a laboratory test facility reproducing sun spectrum, apparent size and distance, and variable illumination directions. Test results validate the sensor concept, confirming the precision improvement achievable with multiple apertures, and sensor operation with a variable number of sun spots. Interferometric inverse synthetic aperture radar (InISAR) has received significant attention in three-dimensional (3D) imaging due to its applications in target classification and recognition. The traditional two-dimensional (2D) ISAR image can be interpreted as a filtered projection of a 3D target's reflectivity function onto an image plane. Such a plane usually depends on unknown radar-target geometry and dynamics, which results in difficulty interpreting an ISAR image. Using the L-shape InISAR imaging system, this paper proposes a novel 3D target reconstruction algorithm based on Dechirp processing and 2D interferometric ISAR imaging, which can jointly estimate the effective rotation vector and the height of scattering center. In order to consider only the areas of the target with meaningful interferometric phase and mitigate the effects of noise and sidelobes, a special cross-channel coherence-based detector (C3D) is introduced. Compared to the multichannel CLEAN technique, advantages of the C3D include the following: (1) the computational cost is lower without complex iteration and (2) the proposed method, which can avoid propagating errors, is more suitable for a target with multi-scattering points. Moreover, misregistration and its influence on target reconstruction are quantitatively discussed. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulations confirm the suitability of the algorithm for 3D imaging of multi-scattering point targets with high efficiency and demonstrate the reliability and effectiveness of the proposed method in the presence of noise. High-frequency ultrasound (HFUS) imaging has emerged as an essential tool for pre-clinical studies and clinical applications such as ophthalmic and dermatologic imaging. HFUS imaging systems based on array transducers capable of dynamic receive focusing have considerably improved the image quality in terms of spatial resolution and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) compared to those by the single-element transducer-based one. However, the array system still suffers from low spatial resolution and SNR in out-of-focus regions, resulting in a blurred image and a limited penetration depth. In this paper, we present synthetic aperture imaging with a virtual source (SA-VS) for an ophthalmic application using a high-frequency convex array transducer. The performances of the SA-VS were evaluated with phantom and ex vivo experiments in comparison with the conventional dynamic receive focusing method. Pre-beamformed radio-frequency (RF) data from phantoms and excised bovine eye were acquired using a custom-built 64-channel imaging system. In the phantom experiments, the SA-VS method showed improved lateral resolution (>10%) and sidelobe level (>4.4 dB) compared to those by the conventional method. The SNR was also improved, resulting in an increased penetration depth: 16 mm and 23 mm for the conventional and SA-VS methods, respectively. Synthetic aperture imaging radiometers (SAIRs) are powerful passive microwave systems for high-resolution imaging by use of synthetic aperture technique. However, the ill-posed inverse problem for SAIRs makes it difficult to reconstruct the high-precision brightness temperature map. The traditional regularization methods add a unique penalty to all the frequency bands of the solution, which may cause the reconstructed result to be too smooth to retain certain features of the original brightness temperature map such as the edge information. In this paper, a multi-parameter regularization method is proposed to reconstruct SAIR brightness temperature distribution. Different from classical single-parameter regularization, the multi-parameter regularization adds multiple different penalties which can exhibit multi-scale characteristics of the original distribution. Multiple regularization parameters are selected by use of the simplified multi-dimensional generalized cross-validation method. The experimental results show that, compared with the conventional total variation, Tikhonov, and band-limited regularization methods, the multi-parameter regularization method can retain more detailed information and better improve the accuracy of the reconstructed brightness temperature distribution, and exhibit superior noise suppression, demonstrating the effectiveness and the robustness of the proposed method. Millimeter-wave and terahertz frequencies offer unique characteristics to simultaneously obtain good spatial resolution and penetrability. In this paper, a robust near-field monostatic focusing technique is presented and successfully applied for the internal imaging of different penetrable geometries. These geometries and environments are related to the growing need to furnish new vehicles with radar-sensing devices that can visualize their surroundings in a clear and robust way. Sub-millimeter-wave radar sensing offers enhanced capabilities in providing information with a high level of accuracy and quality, even under adverse weather conditions. The aim of this paper was to research the capability of this radar system for imaging purposes from an analytical and experimental point of view. Two sets of measurements, using reference targets, were performed in the W band at 100 GHz (75 to 110 GHz) and terahertz band at 300 GHz (220 to 330 GHz). The results show spatial resolutions of millimeters in both the range (longitudinal) and the cross-range (transversal) dimensions for the two different imaging geometries in terms of the location of the transmitter and receiver (frontal or lateral views). Polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) image classification has become more and more popular in recent years. As we all know, PolSAR image classification is actually a dense prediction problem. Fortunately, the recently proposed fully convolutional network (FCN) model can be used to solve the dense prediction problem, which means that FCN has great potential in PolSAR image classification. However, there are some problems to be solved in PolSAR image classification by FCN. Therefore, we propose sliding window fully convolutional network and sparse coding (SFCN-SC) for PolSAR image classification. The merit of our method is twofold: (1) Compared with convolutional neural network (CNN), SFCN-SC can avoid repeated calculation and memory occupation; (2) Sparse coding is used to reduce the computation burden and memory occupation, and meanwhile the image integrity can be maintained in the maximum extent. We use three PolSAR images to test the performance of SFCN-SC. Compared with several state-of-the-art methods, SFCN-SC achieves promising results in PolSAR image classification. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
