Multi-Dimensional Optimal Power Flow (MDOPF) is a fundamental task in power systems engineering aimed at optimizing the operation of electrical networks while considering various constraints such as power generation, transmission, and distribution. The mathematical model of MDOPF involves formulating it as a non-linear, non-convex optimization problem aimed at minimizing specific objective functions while adhering to equality and inequality constraints. The objective function typically includes terms representing the Fuel Cost (FC), Entire Network Losses (ENL), and Entire Emissions (EE), while the constraints encompass power balance equations, generator operating limits, and network constraints, such as line flow limits and voltage limits. This paper presents an innovative Improved Kepler Optimization Technique (IKOT) for solving MDOPF problems. The IKOT builds upon the traditional KOT and incorporates enhanced local escaping mechanisms to overcome local optima traps and improve convergence speed. The mathematical model of the IKOT algorithm involves defining a population of candidate solutions (individuals) represented as vectors in a high-dimensional search space. Each individual corresponds to a potential solution to the MDOPF problem, and the algorithm iteratively refines these solutions to converge towards the optimal solution. The key innovation of the IKOT lies in its enhanced local escaping mechanisms, which enable it to explore the search space more effectively and avoid premature convergence to suboptimal solutions. Experimental results on standard IEEE test systems demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed IKOT in solving MDOPF problems. The proposed IKOT obtained the FC, EE, and ENL of USD 41,666.963/h, 1.039 Ton/h, and 9.087 MW, respectively, in comparison with the KOT, which achieved USD 41,677.349/h, 1.048 Ton/h, 11.277 MW, respectively. In comparison to the base scenario, the IKOT achieved a reduction percentage of 18.85%, 58.89%, and 64.13%, respectively, for the three scenarios. The IKOT consistently outperformed the original KOT and other state-of-the-art metaheuristic optimization algorithms in terms of solution quality, convergence speed, and robustness. A recent optimization algorithm, the Rime Optimization Algorithm (RIME), was developed to efficiently utilize the physical phenomenon of rime-ice growth. It simulates the hard-rime and soft-rime processes, constructing the mechanisms of hard-rime puncture and soft-rime search. In this study, an enhanced version, termed Modified RIME (MRIME), is introduced, integrating a Polynomial Differential Learning Operator (PDLO). The incorporation of PDLO introduces non-linearities to the RIME algorithm, enhancing its adaptability, convergence speed, and global search capability compared to the conventional RIME approach. The proposed MRIME algorithm is designed to identify photovoltaic (PV) module characteristics by considering diverse equivalent circuits, including the One-Diode Model (ONE-DM) and Two-Diode Model TWO-DM, to determine the unspecified parameters of the PV. The MRIME approach is compared to the conventional RIME method using two commercial PV modules, namely the STM6-40/36 module and R.T.C. France cell. The simulation results are juxtaposed with those from contemporary algorithms based on published research. The outcomes related to recent algorithms are also compared with those of the MRIME algorithm in relation to various existing studies. The simulation results indicate that the MRIME algorithm demonstrates substantial improvement rates for the STM6-40/36 module and R.T.C. France cell, achieving 1.16% and 18.45% improvement for the ONE-DM, respectively. For the TWO-DM, it shows significant improvement rates for the two modules, reaching 1.14% and 50.42%, respectively. Background: Identifying prognosticators/predictors of COVID-19 severity is the principal focus for early prediction and effective management of the disease in a time-bound and cost-effective manner. We aimed to evaluate COVID-19 severity-dependent alteration in inflammatory and coagulopathy biomarkers. Methods: A hospital-dependent retrospective observational study (total: n = 377; male, n = 213; and female, n = 164 participants) was undertaken. COVID-19 exposure was assessed by performing real-time PCR on nasopharyngeal (NP) swabs. Descriptive and inferential statistics were applied for both continuous and categorical variables using Rstudio-version-4.0.2. Pearson correlation and regression were executed with a cut-off of p < 0.05 for evaluating significance. Data representation by R-packages and ggplot2. Results: A significant variation in the mean ± SD (highly-sever (HS)/moderately severe (MS)) of CRP (HS/MS: 102.4 ± 22.9/21.3 ± 6.9, p-value < 0.001), D-dimer (HS/MS: 661.1 ± 80.6/348.7 ± 42.9, p-value < 0.001), and ferritin (HS/MS: 875.8 ± 126.8/593.4 ± 67.3, p-value < 0.001) were observed. Thrombocytopenia, high PT, and PTT exhibited an association with the HS individuals (p < 0.001). CRP was correlated with neutrophil (r = 0.77), ferritin (r = 0.74), and WBC (r = 0.8). D-dimer correlated with platelets (r = −0.82), PT (r = 0.22), and PTT (r = 0.37). The adjusted odds ratios (Ad-OR) of CRP, ferritin, D-dimer, platelet, PT, and PTT for HS compared to MS were 1.30 (95% CI −1.137, 1.50; p < 0.001), 1.048 (95% CI −1.03, 1.066; p < 0.001), 1.3 (95% CI −1.24, 1.49, p > 0.05), −0.813 (95% CI −0.734, 0.899, p < 0.001), 1.347 (95% CI −1.15, 1.57, p < 0.001), and 1.234 (95% CI −1.16, 1.314, p < 0.001), respectively. Conclusion: SARS-CoV-2 caused alterations in vital laboratory parameters and raised ferritin, CRP, and D-dimer presented an association with disease severity at a significant level. Simple Summary: Infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) is a potent immunosuppressive, persistent pathogen that can thrive in a range of environmental conditions and withstand even potent disinfectants. The common circulating pathotypes of IBDV in Egypt are classical virulent, attenuated, very virulent IBDV, and novel variant (nVarIBDV). The current study describes the incidence of nVarIBDV in 18 Egyptian chicken flocks although they were vaccinated against IBD. Partial sequence analysis of viral protein 2 (VP2) in two obtained isolates identified them as nVarIBDV (genotype A2d) exhibiting 100% identity to SD-2020 and 99.5–98.1% similarity to ZD-2018-1, QZ, GX and SG19 strains. Similarity to USA variant strains was 95.5–92.6%. Moreover, the similarities in the aa of the VP2 hypervariable region of both isolates to vaccine strains were 86–90.4%. Histopathological examination of both the bursa of Fabricius and spleen collected from diseased chickens in flock no. 18 revealed severe atrophy. In conclusion, this study identified the nVarIBDV genotype which is identical to the nVarIBDV circulating in China. Further studies are required to investigate the epidemiological situation of this novel genotype across the country, and to assess various vaccine protections against nVarIBDV. Additionally, it is crucial to incorporate nVarIBDV into the inactivated vaccines administered to breeder chickens prior to egg production to ensure complete protective and specific maternal immunity in their offspring during their first three weeks of life. After an extended period of detecting classical virulent, attenuated, and very virulent IBDV, a novel variant (nVarIBDV) was confirmed in Egypt in this study in 18, IBD vaccinated, chicken flocks aged 19–49 days. Partial sequence of viral protein 2 (VP2) [219 aa, 147–366, resembling 657 bp] of two obtained isolates (nos. 3 and 4) revealed nVarIBDV (genotype A2d) and OR682618 and OR682619 GenBank accession numbers were obtained. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that both nVarIBDV isolates were closely related to nVarIBDV strains (A2d) circulating in China, exhibiting 100% identity to SD-2020 and 99.5–98.1% similarity to ZD-2018-1, QZ, GX and SG19 strains, respectively. Similarity to USA variant strains, belonging to genotypes A2b (9109), A2c (GLS) and A2a (variant E), respectively, was 95.5–92.6%. Also, the VP2 hypervariable region in those two, A2d, isolates revealed greater similarities to Faragher 52/70 (Vaxxitek®) at 90.4% and to an Indian strain (Ventri-Plus®) and V217 (Xtreme®) at 89.7% and 86–88.9% in other vaccines. Histopathological examination of both the bursa of Fabricius and spleen collected from diseased chickens in flock no. 18 revealed severe atrophy. In conclusion, further studies are required to investigate the epidemiological situation of this novel genotype across the country, and to assess various vaccine protections against nVarIBDV. This study investigated the effect of a hemispherical friction stir welding (FSW) tool on the heat generation and mechanical properties of dissimilar butt welded AA5083 and AA7075 alloys. FSW was performed on the dissimilar aluminum alloys AA5083-H111 and AA7075-T6 using welding speeds of 25, 50, and 75 mm/min. The tool rotation rate was kept constant at 500 rpm. An analytical model was developed to calculate heat generation and temperature distribution during the FSW process utilizing a hemispherical tool. The experimental results were compared to the calculated data. The latter confirms the accuracy of the analytical model, demonstrating a high degree of agreement. Sound FSW dissimilar joints were achieved at welding speeds of 50 and 25 mm/min. Meanwhile, joints created at a welding speed of 75 mm/min exhibited a tunnel-like defect, which can be attributed to the minimal heat generated at this particular welding speed. At a lower welding speed of 25 mm/min, a higher tensile strength of the dissimilar FSWed joints AA5083 and AA7075 was achieved with a joint efficiency of over 97%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The current study aimed to fabricate curcumin-loaded bilosomal hydrogel for topical wound healing purposes, hence alleviating the poor aqueous solubility and low oral bioavailability of curcumin. Bilosomes were fabricated via the thin film hydration technique using cholesterol, Span® 60, and two different types of bile salts (sodium deoxycholate or sodium cholate). Bilosomes were verified for their particle size (PS), polydispersity index (PDI), zeta potential (ZP), entrapment efficiency (EE%), and in vitro drug release besides their morphological features. The optimum formulation was composed of cholesterol/Span® 60 (molar ratio 1:10 w/w) and 5 mg of sodium deoxycholate. This optimum formulation was composed of a PS of 246.25 ± 11.85 nm, PDI of 0.339 ± 0.030, ZP of −36.75 ± 0.14 mv, EE% of 93.32% ± 0.40, and the highest percent of drug released over three days (96.23% ± 0.02). The optimum bilosomal formulation was loaded into alginate dialdehyde/chitosan hydrogel cross-linked with calcium chloride. The loaded hydrogel was tested for its water uptake capacity, in vitro drug release, and in vivo studies on male Albino rats. The results showed that the loaded hydrogel possessed a high-water uptake percent at the four-week time point (729.50% ± 43.13) before it started to disintegrate gradually; in addition, it showed sustained drug release for five days (≈100%). In vivo animal testing and histopathological studies supported the superiority of the curcumin-loaded bilosomal hydrogel in wound healing compared to the curcumin dispersion and plain hydrogel, where there was a complete wound closure attained after the three-week period with a proper healing mechanism. This article presents a modified intelligent metaheuristic form of the Dwarf Mongoose Optimizer (MDMO) for optimal modeling and parameter extraction of solar photovoltaic (SPV) systems. The foraging manner of the dwarf mongoose animals (DMAs) motivated the DMO's primary design. It makes use of distinct DMA societal groups, including the alpha category, scouts, and babysitters. The alpha female initiates foraging and chooses the foraging path, bedding places, and distance travelled for the group. The newly presented MDMO has an extra alpha-directed knowledge-gaining strategy to increase searching expertise, and its modifying approach has been led to some extent by the amended alpha. For two diverse SPV modules, Kyocera KC200GT and R.T.C. France SPV modules, the proposed MDMO is used as opposed to the DMO to efficiently estimate SPV characteristics. By employing the MDMO technique, the simulation results improve the electrical characteristics of SPV systems. The minimization of the root mean square error value (RMSE) has been used to compare the efficiency of the proposed algorithm and other reported methods. Based on that, the proposed MDMO outperforms the standard DMO. In terms of average efficiency, the MDMO outperforms the standard DMO approach for the KC200GT module by 91.7%, 84.63%, and 75.7% for the single-, double-, and triple-diode versions, respectively. The employed MDMO technique for the R.T.C France SPV system has success rates of 100%, 96.67%, and 66.67%, while the DMO's success rates are 6.67%, 10%, and 0% for the single-, double-, and triple-diode models, respectively. Over the previous three decades, the rate of caesarean sections performed worldwide has grown exponentially. In comparison to a vaginal birth, the risk of all postpartum infections is higher with a cesarean section. One of the key factors contributing to maternal morbidity is the development of infectious complications in the surgical site after a caesarean section. The primary goal of the research was to compare the efficiency of using ampicillin/sulbactam (AMS) and cefepime (CEF) to reduce the incidence of surgical site infections (SSI) following caesarean delivery. This prospective randomized study was conducted among 200 pregnant women scheduled for elective cesarean section. They were collected from the Obstetrics and Gynecology department of Beni-Suef University Hospital, and then they were randomly assigned into two groups. Group (A) received cefepime 30 min before and 12 h after cesarean delivery, while group (B) received ampicillin/sulbactam 30 min before and 12 h after cesarean delivery. The groups were matched regarding the baseline women characteristics. Comparing the cefepime to the ampicillin/sulbactam revealed that the cefepime significantly decreased superficial SSI from 27% to 14% (0.023). A significant decrease was observed in deep SSI with cefepime compared to ampicillin/sulbactam from 24% to 13% (p-value 0.045). Interestingly, when the cefepime was compared to the ampicillin/sulbactam, we noted that the incidence of endometritis significantly decreased from 13% to 5% (p = 0.048). A noted decrease in post-operative fever in cefepime as compared to ampicillin/sulbactam from 18% to 13% (p-value = 0.329). Sugar phosphorylation has many applications that can be used to develop dairy and food products. During the phosphorylation process, the color of the solution turns into a dark color. The dark color causes many challenges and limitations in using phosphorylation products. The dark color could cause unpleasant color changes in the products, so it is important to remove that color. Activated carbon has been utilized for decades to remove the dark color and improve the appearance of solutions such as sugar syrup and wastewater. This methodology is cheap and environmentally friendly. The objectives of this study were to develop a method to phosphorylate α-lactose monohydrate and milk permeate and to remove the dark color of solutions. The compositional characteristics of the solution, such as pH, total solids, and color parameters (L*—lightness; a*—redness; and b*—yellowness), were examined at different stages (seven stages) of washing the solutions. α-lactose monohydrate and MPP solutions were diluted with distilled water with a ratio of 1:2.2. Activated carbon was mixed with the solutions and left for 5 min at room temperature. Subsequently, the solutions were filtered. These steps were repeated seven times until there was a transparent (colorless) solutions. The experiment was repeated using three different batches of lactose and milk permeate solutions. Both solutions' pH and total solids decreased with an increase in the number of washings with activated carbon. The International Commission on Illumination (CIE) L*a*b* scale was studied. The L* of the initial solutions was lower than that of the final solutions. However, the a* and b* of the initial solutions were higher than the final solutions. The total color difference (∆E) was calculated for both solutions. ∆E decreased with an increase in the number of washings with activated carbon in both solutions. Fertility preservation technologies have existed for decades, and the field is rapidly advancing; limited data exist regarding the use of these technologies by transgender patients. Many options are available for transgender patients who wish to preserve fertility before transitioning. These options include the cryopreservation of gametes, embryos, or ovarian tissue. Currently, ejaculated, or testicular sperm, immature oocytes, and ovarian tissue can be preserved for later use, but no such use option exists for immature testicular tissue. Many financial, sociological, and legal barriers and a lack of awareness among physicians and patients also hinders the utilization of these fertility preservation services. While options are abundant, usage rates are relatively low. The initial data regarding the successful use of preserved tissues appears promising, with birth rates not dissimilar to non-transgender patients. Further investigations into this area are needed. In the statistical literature, one of the most important subjects that is commonly used is stress–strength reliability, which is defined as δ = P W < V , where V and W are the strength and stress random variables, respectively, and δ is reliability parameter. Type-II progressive censoring with binomial removal is used in this study to examine the inference of δ = P W < V for a component with strength V and being subjected to stress W. We suppose that V and W are independent random variables taken from the Burr XII distribution and the Burr III distribution, respectively, with a common shape parameter. The maximum likelihood estimator of δ is derived. The Bayes estimator of δ under the assumption of independent gamma priors is derived. To determine the Bayes estimates for squared error and linear exponential loss functions in the lack of explicit forms, the Metropolis–Hastings method was provided. Utilizing comprehensive simulations and two metrics (average of estimates and root mean squared errors), we compare these estimators. This work aimed to study the effect of adding skim milk powder (SMP) and whey protein concentrate (WPC) to probiotic mozzarella cheese. Pasteurized cow milk was heated to 55 °C and divided into five parts: PMC1 (control), PMC2 (1% SMP), PMC3 (1.5% SMP), PMC4 (1% WPC), and PMC5 (1.5% WPC). After mixing powders in the respective concentrations in the treatments, the milk was cooled to 35 °C, and Bifidobacterium bifidum culture (5%) was added. Proximate analysis, calcium, soluble nitrogen (SN), total Bifidobacterium bifidum count, cheese yield, hardness, and meltability tests were carried out at 0, 14, and 28 days of storage. The mozzarella cheese samples with WPC added had higher acidity, total solids, and protein content than the mozzarella cheese samples with SMP added and the control samples during storage. The addition of WPC led to a significant increase (p < 0.05) in the count of Bifidobacterium bifidum during storage at 5 °C. The cheeses with WPC added had increased meltability, higher hardness, and higher browning on pizza compared to those of the mozzarella cheese with SMP added. A sensory evaluation showed that the addition of WPC increased sensory scores, compared to the addition of SMP. As storage time progressed, there was a significant (p < 0.05) increase in the Bifidobacterium bifidum, meltability, and sensory scores of PMC in all treatments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: H. pylori-associated dyslipidemia has been reported to be a major risk factor for atherosclerosis and coronary heart diseases. We aimed to investigate the association of the H. pylori infection with dyslipidemia. Methods: A retrospective case–control study was undertaken to evaluate H. pylori-associated dyslipidemia, where H. pylori-positive individuals were treated as the case group (n = 260) while H. pylori-negative individuals were considered as the control group (n = 250). The mean ± SD of the age of the patients included (n = 510) was 44.01 ± 13.58 years. Study subjects with a total cholesterol level of >5.17 mmol/L and/or a triglyceride level of >1.69 mmol/L and/or an LDL-C level of >2.59 mmol/L and/or an HDL-C level of <1 mmol/L in males and/or an HDL-C level of <1.3 mmol/L in females were defined as dyslipidemia. Descriptive (mean, standard deviation, median, and IQR) and inferential (t-test, chi-square test, and logistic regression) statistical analyses were undertaken using the R-base/R-studio (v-4.0.2)/tidyverse package. Univariate and bivariate logistic regressions were executed to calculate the crude and adjusted odds ratio along with the p-value. A p-value of <0.05 was the cut-off for statistical significance. We used ggplot2 for data visualization. Results: The differences in overall mean ± SD (H. pylori positive vs. negative) of the cholesterol (5.22 ± 1.0 vs. 5.49 ± 0.85, p < 0.01), triglyceride (1.66 ± 0.75 vs. 1.29 ± 0.71, p < 0.001), LDL-C (3.43 ± 0.74 vs. 3.26 ± 0.81, p < 0.05), and HDL-C (1.15 ± 0.30 vs. 1.30 ± 0.25, p < 0.001) levels were statistically significant. The cholesterol and LDL-C levels in ages >60, age = 30–60, in females, and LDL-C levels in males were not significantly different for the H. pylori-positive and -negative groups. The proportion (H. pylori positive vs. negative) of hypercholesterolemia (190/59.9% vs. 127/40% p < 0.01), hypertriglyceridemia (136/68% vs. 64/32% p < 0.001), high LDL-cholesterolemia levels (234/53% vs. 201/46% p < 0.01), and low HDL-cholesterolemia levels (149/71% vs. 60/28.7% p < 0.01) were statistically significant. The odds of having hypercholesterolemia (AOR: 2.64, 95%CI: 1.824–3.848, p < 0.001), hypertriglyceridemia (AOR: 3.24, 95%CI: 2.227–4.757, p < 0.001), an increased LDL-C level (AOR: 2.174, 95%CI: 1.309–3.684, p < 0.01), and a decreased HDL-C level (AOR: 4.2, 95%CI: 2.937–6.321, p < 0.001) were 2.64, 3.24, 2.17, and 4.2 times higher in the H. pylori-infected individuals as compared with the H. pylori-uninfected group. Conclusion: Our results demonstrate that an enhanced risk of dyslipidemia is associated with the H. pylori infection, which can aggrandize the atherosclerosis process. Natural products such as domestic herbal drugs which are easily accessible and cost-effective can be used as a complementary treatment in mild and moderate COVID-19 cases. This study aimed to detect and describe the efficiency of phenolics detected in the galangal–cinnamon mixture in the inhibition of SARS-CoV-2's different protein targets. The potential antiviral effect of galangal–cinnamon aqueous extract (GCAE) against Low Pathogenic HCoV-229E was assessed using cytopathic effect inhibition assay and the crystal violet method. Low Pathogenic HCoV-229E was used as it is safer for in vitro laboratory experimentation and due to the conformation and the binding pockets similarity between HCoV-229E and SARS-CoV-2 MPro. The GCAE showed a significant antiviral effect against HCoV-229E (IC50 15.083 µg/mL). Twelve phenolic compounds were detected in the extract with ellagic, cinnamic, and gallic acids being the major identified phenolic acids, while rutin was the major identified flavonoid glycoside. Quantum-chemical calculations were made to find molecular properties using the DFT/B3LYP method with 6-311++G(2d,2p) basis set. Quantum-chemical values such as EHOMO, ELUMO, energy gap, ionization potential, chemical hardness, softness, and electronegativity values were calculated and discussed. Phenolic compounds detected by HPLC-DAD-UV in the GCAE were docked into the active site of 3 HCoV-229E targets (PDB IDs. 2ZU2, 6U7G, 7VN9, and 6WTT) to find the potential inhibitors that block the Coronavirus infection pathways from quantum and docking data for these compounds. Background: Primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an inflammatory autoimmune disease that can be managed with several treatment options. However, there is a lack of comparative data on the efficacy of these options in different phases of the disease. Aim of the study: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of high-dose Dexamethasone (HD-DXM), Prednisolone + Azathioprine, Rituximab, Eltrombopag, and Romiplostim schedules in persistent, chronic refractory or relapsed Egyptian ITP patients with a platelet count ≤30 × 109/L. The primary outcome measure was a sustained increase in platelet counts over 50 × 109/L for an additional 12 months without additional ITP regimens. The study also aimed to identify a suitable treatment regimen with a long remission duration for each phase of ITP. Results: Prednisolone + Azathioprine was significantly more effective in achieving an overall response in persistent patients than Romiplostim, high-dose Dexamethasone, and Rituximab. Eltrombopag was significantly more effective in achieving a durable response in refractory ITP than HD-DXM, Rituximab, and Prednisolone; (80% compared to 32.2% [OR: 0.119, CI 95% (0.035–0.410)], 22.2% [OR:0.071, CI 95% (0.011–0.455)], and 18.1% [OR: 0.056, CI 95% (0.009–0.342)], respectively, p-value < 0.01). Conclusions: Finally, Eltrombopag following HD-DXM showed the highest percentage of patients with complete treatment-free survival times of at least 330 days. These findings could help clinicians choose the most appropriate treatment for their patients with ITP based on the phase of the disease. Calcareous soil had sufficient phosphorus and potassium (PK) in different forms due to the high contents of PK-bearing minerals; however, the available PK state was reduced due to its PK-fixation capacity. Compost, coupled with high PK solubilization capacity microbes, is a sustainable solution for bioorganic fertilization of plants grown in calcareous soil. A 2-year field experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of compost (20 t ha−1) with Aspergillus niger through soil drenching (C-AN) along with partial substitution of PK fertilization on quinoa performance in normal and calcareous soils. Treatments included PK100% (72 kg P2O5 ha−1 + 60 kg K2O ha−1 as conventional rate), PK100%+C-AN, PK75%+C-AN, PK50%+C-AN, PK25%+C-AN, and only C-AN in normal and calcareous soils. Results showed that C-AN and reduced PK fertilization (up to 75 or 50%) increased photosynthetic pigments and promoted nutrient acquisition in quinoa grown in calcareous soil. Reduced PK fertilization to 75 or 50% plus C-AN in calcareous soil increased osmoprotectants, nonenzymatic antioxidants, and DPPH scavenging activity of quinoa's leaves compared to the PK0%+C-AN treatment. The integrative application of high PK levels and C-AN enhanced the quinoa's seed nutritional quality (i.e., lipids, carbohydrates, mineral contents, total phenolics, total flavonoids, half maximal inhibitory concentration, and antiradical power) in calcareous soil. At reduced PK fertilization (up to 75 or 50%), application of compost with Aspergillus niger through soil drenching increased plant dry weight by 38.7 or 53.2%, hectoliter weight by 3.0 or 2.4%, seed yield by 49.1 or 39.5%, and biological yield by 43.4 or 33.6%, respectively, compared to PK0%+C-AN in calcareous soil. The highest P-solubilizing microorganism's population was found at PK0%+C-AN in calcareous soil, while the highest Azotobacter sp. population was observed under high PK levels + C-AN in normal soil. Our study recommends that compost with Aspergillus niger as a bioorganic fertilization treatment can partially substitute PK fertilization and boost quinoa's tolerance to salt calcareous-affected soil. Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an autoimmune bleeding disorder caused by antigen-specific T cells and antiplatelet autoantibodies that inhibit platelet production in the bone marrow or destroy platelets in the spleen. ITP is a form of autoimmunity and is closely associated with inflammation. Corticosteroids are the first-line therapy for ITP, with a total response rate of 53–80%. However, corticosteroid therapy is associated with significant side effects and is often ineffective in patients with corticosteroid-resistant or -intolerant disease. Eltrombopag has been validated as a second-line option in ITP therapy. Despite several studies demonstrating the efficacy and safety of Eltrombopag in immune thrombocytopenia patients, the prevalence of Eltrombopag-induced acute kidney injury has been observed. This case report describes a patient who experienced acute kidney injury during Eltrombopag therapy. A sudden increase in serum creatinine to 6.7 mg/dL and metabolic acidosis occurred after eight weeks of Eltrombopag. The patient's renal failure had worsened, proteinuria was detected, and emergency hemodialysis was initiated. With vigilant kidney function screening and prompt treatment, the patient's renal function improved remarkably following cessation of Eltrombopag and initiation of hemodialysis. A novel lifetime distribution has been defined and examined in this study. The odd Lindley–Pareto (OLiP) distribution is the name we give to the new distribution. The new density function can be written as an odd Lindley-G distribution with Pareto amplification. The moment-generating function and characteristic function, entropy and asymptotic behavior, order statistics and moments, mode, variance, skewness, and kurtosis are some of the aspects of the OLiP distribution that are discovered. Seven non-Bayesian estimation techniques and Bayesian estimation utilizing Markov chain Monte Carlo were compared for performance. Additionally, when the lifetime test is truncated after a predetermined period, single acceptance sampling plans (SASPs) are created for the newly suggested, OLiP distribution. The median lifetime of the OLiP distribution with pre-specified factors is taken as the truncation time. To guarantee that the specific life test is obtained at the defined risk to the user, the minimum sample size is required. For a particular consumer's risk, the OLiP distribution's parameters, and the truncation time, numerical results are obtained. The new distribution is illustrated using mortality rates of COVID-19 patients in Canada and vinyl chloride data in (g/L) from ground-water monitoring wells that are located in clean-up-gradient areas. In this article, we introduce the Kavya–Manoharan generalized inverse Kumaraswamy (KM-GIKw) distribution, which can be presented as an improved version of the generalized inverse Kumaraswamy distribution with three parameters. It contains numerous referenced lifetime distributions of the literature and a large panel of new ones. Among the essential features and attributes covered in our research are quantiles, moments, and information measures. In particular, various entropy measures (Rényi, Tsallis, etc.) are derived and discussed numerically. The adaptability of the KM-GIKw distribution in terms of the shapes of the probability density and hazard rate functions demonstrates how well it is able to fit different types of data. Based on it, an acceptance sampling plan is created when the life test is truncated at a predefined time. More precisely, the truncation time is intended to represent the median of the KM-GIKw distribution with preset factors. In a separate part, the focus is put on the inference of the KM-GIKw distribution. The related parameters are estimated using the Bayesian, maximum likelihood, and maximum product of spacings methods. For the Bayesian method, both symmetric and asymmetric loss functions are employed. To examine the behaviors of various estimates based on criterion measurements, a Monte Carlo simulation research is carried out. Finally, with the aim of demonstrating the applicability of our findings, three real datasets are used. H. pylori (ubiquitous) and anemia together represent one of the growing health concerns globally. Gastroduodenal sequelae of H. pylori infection are distinguished; however, for the H. pylori infection and its implication in the development of anemia, iron has a significant health impact. We aimed to evaluate H. pylori infection-associated anemia by employing a logistic regression analysis model. A retrospective (case–control) study design-based assessment of the H. pylori associated-anemia. The study area was geo-referenced by QGIS/QuickMapServies. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were accomplished using the R-base–R-studio (v-4.0.2)-tidyverse. A p-value < 0.05 was the statistical significance cut-off value. A ggplot2 package was used for data representation and visualization. Mean ± SD age, Hb, MCV, ferritin, and RBC for overall study participants were measured to be 44.0 ± 13.58, 13.84 ± 2.49, 83.02 ± 8.31, 59.42 ± 68.37, and 5.14 ± 0.75, respectively. Decreased levels of Hb (infected vs. uninfected: 13.26 ± 2.92 vs. 14.42 ± 1.75, p < 0.001) ferritin (infected vs. uninfected: 48.11 ± 63.75 vs. 71.17 ± 71.14, p < 0.001), and MCV (infected vs. uninfected: 81.29 ± 9.13 vs. and 84.82 ± 6.93, p < 0.05) were measured to be associated with H. pylori infection when compared with H. pylori uninfected control group. Moreover, the magnitude (prevalence) of anemia (infected vs. uninfected: 78% vs. 21%, p < 0.001), iron deficiency anemia (IDA) (infected vs. uninfected: 63.3% vs. 36.6%, p < 0.001), and microcytic anemia (infected vs. uninfected: 71.6% vs. 46.1%, p < 0.001) were significantly different among the H. pylori-infected participants. The higher likelihood of developing anemia (AOR; 4.98, 95% CI; 3.089–8.308, p < 0.001), IDA (AOR; 3.061, 95% CI; 2.135–4.416, p < 0.001), and microcytic anemia (AOR; 3.289, 95% CI; 2.213–4.949, p < 0.001) by 398%, 206.1%, and 229%, respectively, was associated with H. pylori-infected. We recommend the regular monitoring of hematological parameters and eradication of H. pylori infection to minimize the extra-gastric health consequences of H. pylori infection. Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) treatment has evolved recently. However, none of the treatments have only benefits without drawbacks. This study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes and adverse drug patterns of Eltrombopag, Romiplostim, Prednisolone + Azathioprine, High Dose-dexamethasone (HD-DXM) (control group), and Rituximab in primary ITP Egyptian patients. All patients were initiated with corticosteroids, HD-DXM, as a first-line treatment for the first month immediately following diagnosis. Four hundred sixty-seven ITP patients were randomly assigned to five groups. The outcome measures were judged at baseline, at the end of treatment (6 months), and after an additional 6-month free treatment period. The follow-up period for which relapse is noted was 6 months after the end of treatment. Eltrombopag and Romiplostim resulted in a significantly higher incidence of sustained response than Rituximab, HD-DXM, and Prednisolone + Azathioprine (55.2% and 50.6% vs. 29.2%, 29.1%, and 18%, respectively; p-value < 0.001). More patients on immunomodulators (Prednisolone+ Azathioprine, HD-DXM, and Rituximab) relapsed than those on Romiplostim and Eltrombopag (81.9%, 70.8%, and 70.7% vs. 49.3%, and 44.7%, respectively; p-value < 0.01). We also describe 23 reports of pulmonary hypertension with Prednisolone+ Azathioprine and 13 reports with HD-DXM. The thrombotic events occurred in 16.6% and 13% of patients who received Eltrombopag and Romiplostim treatment, respectively. Most patients had at least one or two risk factors (92.8% of cases). Corticosteroids are effective first-line therapy in primary ITP patients. However, relapse is frequent. Eltrombopag and Romiplostim are safer and more effective than Prednisolone, HD-DXM, and Rituximab. They might be reasonable beneficial options after a one-month HD-DXM regimen. This study aimed to investigate the impact of a recreational behavioural programme on reducing the degree of anger among children with intellectual disabilities (ID) in the primary stage. The study was implemented with 24 children who were randomly divided into two groups: an experimental group (n = 12, age = 10.80 ± 1.03 years, IQ = 63.10 ± 4.43 scores, ASW = 55.50 ± 1.51 scores) and a control group (n = 12, age = 10.80 ± 0.92 years, IQ = 63.00 ± 4.16 scores, ASW = 56.00 ± 1.15 scores). We used the PROMIS anger scale with a modification that was used to measure the degree of anger, and the recreational behavioural programme was implemented three times per week for six weeks. The results of the research showed that the improvement percentages for Anger Triggers (AT), Inner Anger (IA), and External Anger (EA) were 9.73%, 9.04%, and 9.60%, respectively, and the Anger scale as a whole (ASW) rate was 9.46%. r = (0.89–0.91). The experimental group using the recreational behavioural programme also outperformed the control group, as the results indicated a decrease in the intensity of anger in the direction of the experimental group. The differences in the improvement percentages for Anger Triggers (AT) Inner Anger (IA), and External Anger (EA) were 32.97%, 31.03%, and 26.63%, respectively, and the Anger scale as a whole (ASW) rate was 30.09%, r = (0.82–0.86). The results of the study confirmed the effectiveness of the recreational activity programme in developing social interaction among children with intellectual disabilities, which indicates the success of the recreational behavioural programme in reducing the degree of anger among children with IDs. Water deficit is a significant environmental stress that has a negative impact on plant growth and yield. In this research, the positive significance of kaolin and SiO2 nanoparticles in moderating the detrimental effects of water deficit on maize plant growth and yield is investigated. The foliar application of kaolin (3 and 6%) and SiO2 NPs (1.5 and 3 mM) solutions increased the growth and yield variables of maize plants grown under normal conditions (100% available water) and drought stress conditions (80 and 60% available water (AW)). In addition, plants treated with SiO2 NPs (3 mM) demonstrated increased levels of important osmolytes, such as proline and phenol, and maintained more of their photosynthetic pigments (net photosynthetic rate (PN), stomatal conductance (gs), intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci), and transpiration rate (E)) than with other applied treatments under either stress or non-stress conditions. Furthermore, the exogenous foliar application of kaolin and SiO2 NPs also reduced the amounts of hydroxyl radicals (OH), superoxide anions (O2), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and lipid peroxidation in maize plants experiencing a water deficit. In contrast, the treatments led to an increase in the activity of antioxidant enzymes such as peroxidase (POX), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), glutathione peroxidase (GR), catalase (CAT), and superoxide dismutase (SOD). Overall, our findings indicate the beneficial impact of the application of kaolin and silicon NPs, particularly the impact of SiO2 NPs (3 mM) on managing the negative, harmful impacts of soil water deficit stress in maize plants. The current study uses three different pin eccentricities (e) and six different welding speeds to investigate the impact of pin eccentricity on friction stir welding (FSW) of AA5754-H24. To simulate and forecast the impact of (e) and welding speed on the mechanical properties of friction stir welded joints for (FSWed) AA5754-H24, an artificial neural network (ANN) model was developed. The input parameters for the model in this work are welding speed (WS) and tool pin eccentricity (e). The outputs of the developed ANN model include the mechanical properties of FSW AA5754-H24 (ultimate tensile strength, elongation, hardness of the thermomechanically affected zone (TMAZ), and hardness of the weld nugget zone (NG)). The ANN model yielded a satisfactory performance. The model has been used to predict the mechanical properties of the FSW AA5754 aluminum alloy as a function of TPE and WS with excellent reliability. Experimentally, the tensile strength is increased by increasing both the (e) and the speed, which was already captured from the ANN predictions. A synergistic interaction between reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and a biodegradable natural polymer, sodium alginate, was developed to create unique microspheres with protruding spiky features at the surface (spiky microspheres) that act as a super encapsulation and sustained release system for the highly effective antibiotic cefotaxime. Three forms of microspheres, namely alginate (Alg), alginate-cefotaxime (Alg-CTX), and alginate-cefotaxime-reduced graphene (Alg-CTX-rGO) composites, were prepared using calcium chloride as a cross-linking agent. The microspheres were characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction to investigate their pores, roughness, surface morphology, functional groups, phase formation, purity, and structural properties. The membrane diffusion method was employed to determine the release profile of Cefotaxime from the fabricated microspheres. The antibacterial activities of CTX solution, Alg microspheres, Alg-CTX microspheres, and Alg-CTX-rGO microspheres were investigated against gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli) using the agar diffusion method on Muller–Hinton agar. The prepared samples exhibited excellent results, suggesting their potential for enhanced antibiotic delivery. Multi-area power systems (MAPSs) are highly complex non-linear systems facing a fundamental issue in real-world engineering problems called frequency stability problems (FSP). This paper develops an enhanced slime mold optimization algorithm (ESMOA) to optimize the tuning parameters for a cascaded proportional derivative-proportional integral (PD-PI) controller. The novel ESMOA proposal includes a new system that combines basic SMO, chaotic dynamics, and an elite group. The motion update incorporates the chaotic technique, and the exploitation procedure is enhanced by searching for a select group rather than merely the best solution overall. The proposed cascaded PD-PI controller based on the ESMOA is employed for solving the FSP in MAPSs with two area non-reheat thermal systems to keep the balance between the electrical power load and the generation and provide power system security, reliability, and quality. The proposed cascaded PD-PI controller based on the ESMOA is evaluated using time domain simulation to minimize the integral time-multiplied absolute error (ITAE). It is evaluated in four different test situations with various sets of perturbations. For tuning the cascaded PD-PI controller, the proposed ESMOA is compared to the golden search optimizer (GSO) and circle optimizer (CO), where the proposed ESMOA provides the best performance. Furthermore, the findings of the proposed cascaded PD-PI controller based on the ESMOA outperform previous published PID and PI controllers adjusted using numerous contemporary techniques. Intensive fertilizer use can constrain contributions from soil biological processes in pastures, including those associated with arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi. We evaluated the effect of fertilizers of different P solubility on the colonization of the roots of two common pasture plants by a community of AM fungi in a pasture soil. The treatments were a rock mineral fertilizer, a chemical fertilizer and a microbial inoculant. Subterranean clover and annual ryegrass were grown in pots for 10 weeks. Both fertilizers reduced the proportion and length of roots colonized by naturally occurring AM fungi. However, by 10 weeks, there was a much greater length of mycorrhizal root for annual ryegrass than for subterranean clover. The relative abundance of mycorrhizal fungi in the families Glomeraceae and Acaulosporaceae in roots was not affected by the form of fertilizer, but diversity indices of AM fungi in roots were altered. The chemical fertilizer had a greater negative effect on AM fungal diversity indices in the annual ryegrass roots compared with the subterranean clover roots. The reduction in OTU richness of AM fungi with fertilizer application corresponded with reduced soil pH. Differential effects of P fertilizers on naturally occurring AM fungi in this agricultural soil have the potential to influence the efficacy of P fertilizer use and dominance of plant species in grasslands. This study investigates the effect of tool pin eccentricity and welding speed on the grain structure, crystallographic texture, and mechanical properties of friction stir welded (FSWed) AA5754-H24. Three tool pin eccentricities of 0, 0.2, and 0.8 mm at different welding speeds ranging from 100 mm/min to 500 mm/min and a constant tool rotation rate of 600 rpm were investigated. High-resolution electron backscattering diffraction (EBSD) data were acquired from each weld's center of the nugget zone (NG) and processed to analyze the grain structure and texture. In terms of mechanical properties, both hardness and tensile properties were investigated. The grain structure in the NG of the joints produced at 100 mm/min, 600 rpm, and different tool pin eccentricities showed significant grain refining due to dynamic recrystallization with average grain sizes of 18, 15, and 18 µm at 0, 0.2, and 0.8 mm pin eccentricities, respectively. Increasing the welding speed from 100 to 500 mm/min further reduced the average grain size of the NG zone to 12.4, 10, and 11 µm at 0, 0.2, and 0.8 mm eccentricity, respectively. The simple shear texture dominates the crystallographic texture with both B ¯ /B texture component with the C component at their ideal positions after rotating the data to align the shear reference frame with the FSW reference frame in both the PFs and ODF sections. The tensile properties of the welded joints were slightly lower than the base material due to the hardness reduction in the weld zone. However, the ultimate tensile strength and the yield stress for all welded joints increased by increasing the friction stir welding (FSW) speed from 100 to 500 mm/min. Welding using the pin eccentricity of 0.2 mm resulted in the highest tensile strength; at a welding speed of 500 mm/min, it reached 97% of the base material strength. A gradient-based optimizer (GBO) is a recently inspired meta-heuristic technique centered on Newton's gradient-based approach. In this paper, an advanced developed version of the GBO is merged with a crossover operator (GBOC) to enhance the diversity of the created solutions. The merged crossover operator causes the solutions in the next generation to be more random. The proposed GBOC maintains the original Gradient Search Rule (GSR) and Local Escaping Operator (LEO). The GSR directs the search to potential areas and aids in its convergence to the optimal answer, while the LEO aids the searching process in avoiding local optima. The proposed GBOC technique is employed to optimally place and size the distribution static VAR compensator (D-SVC), one of the distribution flexible AC transmission devices (D-FACTS). It is developed to maximize the yearly energy savings via power losses concerning simultaneously different levels of the peak, average, and light loadings. Its relevance is tested on three distribution systems of IEEE 33, 69, and 118 nodes. Based on the proposed GBOC, the outputs of the D-SVCs are optimally varying with the loading level. Furthermore, their installed ratings are handled as an additional constraint relating to two compensation levels of 50% and 75% of the total reactive power load to reflect a financial installation limit. The simulation applications of the proposed GBOC declare great economic savings in yearly energy losses for the three distribution systems with increasing compensation levels and iterations compared to the initial case. In addition, the effectiveness of the proposed GBOC is demonstrated compared to several techniques, such as the original GBO, the salp swarm algorithm, the dwarf mongoose algorithm, differential evolution, and honey badger optimization. Cardiac arrest causes primary and secondary brain injuries. We evaluated the association between neuron-specific enolase (NSE), serum S-100B (S100B), electroencephalogram (EEG) patterns, and post-cardiac arrest outcomes in pediatric patients. A prospective observational study was conducted in the pediatric intensive care unit and included 41 post-cardiac arrest patients who underwent EEG and serum sampling for NSE and S100B. The participants were aged 1 month to 18 years who experienced cardiac arrest and underwent CPR after a sustained return of spontaneous circulation for ≥48 h. Approximately 19.5% (n = 8) of patients survived until ICU discharge. Convulsions and sepsis were significantly associated with higher mortality (relative risk: 1.33 [95% CI = 1.09–1.6] and 1.99 [95% CI = 0.8–4.7], respectively). Serum NSE and S100B levels were not statistically associated with the outcome (p = 0.278 and 0.693, respectively). NSE levels were positively correlated with the duration of CPR. EEG patterns were significantly associated with the outcome (p = 0.01). Non-epileptogenic EEG activity was associated with the highest survival rate. Post-cardiac arrest syndrome is a serious condition with a high mortality rate. Management of sepsis and convulsions affects prognosis. Several studies have investigated the properties of alkali-activated materials (AAM), considering it as a substitute of cementitious concrete. However, the studies on alkali-activated self-consolidating concrete (AASCC) are extremely limited. This paper investigated the properties of AASCCs utilizing ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) as the main precursor. Single, binary, and ternary AASCCs were produced using fly ash Class-F (FA) and silica fumes (SF) as a replacement for GGBFS. The fresh properties including filing ability, passing ability and stability, as well as the hardened properties including unconfined compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity, electrical resistivity, absorption, and sorptivity of the ambient cured one-part AASCC mixtures with different precursor blends were investigated. In addition, the microstructural properties of 90-day AASCC blends were studied by various microscale analysis methods. This paper demonstrated that the higher fraction of sodium carbonate/silicate activators, ranging from 20% to 25%, contributed to delayed reaction kinetics and satisfactory fresh and mechanical properties in all systems due to their nature. Slag replacement with variable SF or FA class-F ratios, instead, could indeed adjust the particle size distribution of the total binder material and improve the fresh concrete characteristics in binary and ternary systems. Finally, the formation of various reaction products and binding gels, i.e., C-(N)A-S-H, was found to have a significant impact on several transport mechanisms, including capillary sorptivity, permeable pores, and bulk electrical resistivity. Hybrid dysprosium-doped borate glassy samples [B-Gly/Dy]HDG (Borate Glass/Dysprosium)Hybrid Doped Glass were prepared in this study via the melt-quenching method. Its linear/nonlinear optical, photoluminescence, hardness indentation, and micro-creep properties were analyzed. The amorphous structure for all the prepared samples was confirmed from the XRD patterns. In addition, density functional theory (DFT), optimized by TD-DFT and Crystal Sleuth, was used to study the structure and crystallinity of the [B-Gly/Dy]HDG as isolated molecules and agreed with the peaks of experimental XRD patterns. Additionally, theoretical lattice types were studied using Polymorph, a content studio software, and orthorhombic Pc21b (29) and triclinic P-1 (2) structures were provided. Both mechanical and optical properties were responses to different concentrations of Dy2O3 in the glassy borate system. It was found that the length of indentation increases by increasing the load time, and the hardness decreases by increasing the load time. The stress exponent value also increased from 4.1 to 6.3. The indentation strain increases by increasing the load time. The direct optical band gap was evaluated using the Davis–Mott relation. Urbach energy and its connection to the disorder degree in materials were studied depending on the Dy2O3 concentration. The acquired optical parameters were also analyzed to determine the nonlinear refractive index as well as the linear and third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility of the investigated glass samples. The photoluminescence emission spectra were recorded, and their attributed transitions were studied. The mechanical studies showed that the hardness values increased by increasing Dy2O3 concentrations from 4160.54 to 5631.58 Mpa. The stress exponent value also increased from 4.1 to 6.3. Viruses are the most abundant living things and a source of genetic variation. Despite recent research, we know little about their biodiversity and geographic distribution. We used different bioinformatics tools, MG-RAST, genome detective web tools, and GenomeVx, to describe the first metagenomic examination of haloviruses in Wadi Al-Natrun. The discovered viromes had remarkably different taxonomic compositions. Most sequences were derived from double-stranded DNA viruses, especially from Myoviridae, Podoviridae, Siphoviridae, Herpesviridae, Bicaudaviridae, and Phycodnaviridae families; single-stranded DNA viruses, especially from the family Microviridae; and positive-strand RNA viruses, especially from the family Potyviridae. Additionally, our results showed that Myohalovirus chaoS9 has eight Contigs and is annotated to 18 proteins as follows: tail sheath protein, tco, nep, five uncharacterized proteins, HCO, major capsid protein, putative pro head protease protein, putative head assembly protein, CxxC motive protein, terl, HTH domain protein, and terS Exon 2. Additionally, Halorubrum phage CGphi46 has 19 proteins in the brine sample as follows: portal protein, 17 hypothetical proteins, major capsid protein, etc. This study reveals viral lineages, suggesting the Virus's global dispersal more than other microorganisms. Nowadays, many construction projects in KSA still struggle with cost overruns and delay in activities. Therefore, automatic monitoring approaches are needed in the construction progress monitoring domain (CPM) to address these concerns. Thus, this paper proposed a system integrating a BIM-planned model with site laser scans, as laser scanners showed massive potential in the CPM domain. The algorithms of the proposed system recognized 3D objects based on the intersection between models, alignment accuracy, and Lalonde features. The proposed system combined 3D object recognition technology with 5D information data into a 5D progress tracking system using earned value (EV) principles. The reason behind that is a lack of research regarding conducting a 5D assessment integrated BIM with 3D sensing technology in the CPM domain. The proposed system was verified using field data from a superstructure construction project where the object recognition indicators showed a 98% recall and 99% precision in recognizing 3D objects. The proposed system also used a color-coding system to address the condition of each element based on its recognition and scheduling state and address any occlusions while calculating the recognized objects. The results also revealed an automatically updated status of the project's progress in terms of schedule(4D) and cost(5D). The automated results were also validated with a manual calculation, where a slight variation (1.35%) was observed between those calculations. Liquid-assisted laser processing (LALP) is implemented using a 10.6 μm continuous-wave (CW) CO2 laser to drill holes in 1.1 mm thick soda-lime glass substrates fully immersed in a nanoliquid bath. The nanoliquid bath consisted of de-ionized water and carbon nano-particles (CNPs) of different wt.%. The study focuses on the influence of exposure time (TE, [s]), laser beam power (P, [W]) and number of pulses (NP) on resulting geometrical features, namely, crack length (CL, [mm]), inlet diameter (DINLET, [mm]) and exit diameter (DEXIT, [mm]). The processed samples were characterized using an optical microscope. Findings show that LALP with investigated ranges of control parameters TE (0.5–1.5 s), P (20–40 W) and NP (1–6 pulses) led to successful production of drilled holes having CL range (0.141 to 0.428 mm), DINLET range (0.406 to 1.452 mm) and DEXIT range (0.247 to 1.039 mm). It was concluded that increasing TE alone leads to increasing CL, DINLET and DEXIT, while keeping a good balance among the control parameters, especially TE and NP, will result in reduced CL values. Moreover, process statistical models were developed using statistical analysis of variance (ANOVA). Curcumin or turmeric is the active constituent of Curcuma longa L. It has marvelous medicinal applications in many diseases. When the skin integrity is compromised due to either acute or chronic wounds, the body initiates several steps leading to tissue healing and skin barrier function restoration. Curcumin has very strong antibacterial and antifungal activities with powerful wound healing ability owing to its antioxidant activity. Nevertheless, its poor oral bioavailability, low water solubility and rapid metabolism limit its medical use. Tailoring suitable drug delivery systems for carrying curcumin improves its pharmaceutical and pharmacological effects. This review summarizes the most recent reported curcumin-loaded delivery systems for wound healing purposes, chiefly hydrogels, films, wafers, and sponges. In addition, curcumin nanoformulations such as nanohydrogels, nanoparticles and nanofibers are also presented, which offer better solubility, bioavailability, and sustained release to augment curcumin wound healing effects through stimulating the different healing phases by the aid of the small carrier. Brucellosis is a common zoonotic disease in Iran. Antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) Brucella isolates have been reported from different developing countries, posing an imminent health hazard. The objective of this study was to evaluate AMR and virulence-associated factors in Brucella isolates recovered from humans and animals in different regions of Iran using classical phenotyping and next generation sequencing (NGS) technology. Our findings revealed that B. melitensis is the most common species in bovines, small ruminants and camels. B. abortus was isolated only from one human case. Probable intermediate or resistant phenotype patterns for rifampicin, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, ampicillin-sulbactam and colistin were found. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) identified mprF, bepG, bepF, bepC, bepE, and bepD in all isolates but failed to determine other classical AMR genes. Forty-three genes associated with five virulence factors were identified in the genomes of all Brucella isolates, and no difference in the distribution of virulence-associated genes was found. Of them, 27 genes were associated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS), 12 genes were related to a type IV secretion system (virB1-B12), two were associated with the toll-interleukin-1 receptor (TIR) domain-containing proteins (btpA, btpB), one gene encoded the Rab2 interacting conserved protein A (ricA) and one was associated with the production of cyclic β-1,2 glucans (cgs). This is the first investigation reporting the molecular-based AMR and virulence factors in brucellae isolated from different animal hosts and humans in Iran. Iranian B. abortus and B. melitensis isolates are still in vitro susceptible to the majority of antibiotics used for the treatment of human brucellosis. WGS failed to determine classical AMR genes and no difference was found in the distribution of virulence-associated genes in all isolates. Still, the absence of classical AMR genes in genomes of resistant strains is puzzling, and investigation of phenotypic resistance mechanisms at the proteomic and transcriptomic levels is needed. Solenostemma argel is a desert medicinal plant indigenous to African countries. This research aims to study the pharmacological properties of Solenostemma argel plant. Aerial parts (leaves and flowers) of Solenostemma argel (Delile) Hayane were tested for antibacterial activity, antioxidant activity, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory activity. Phenolic and flavonoid contents of the plant were characterized. There was an increase in the antioxidant activity of Solenostemma argel extract from 12.16% to 94.37% by increasing concentration from10 µg/mL to 1280 µg/mL. The most sensitive organism was S. epidermidis with chloroform extract. The MTT assay revealed that methanolic extracts of Solenostemma argel showed potent cytotoxic effects on the A549, Caco-2, and MDAMB-231 cell lines, respectively. The anti-inflammatory activity increased by increasing the concentration of methanolic extract of Solenostemma argel, using indomethacin as a standard. Gallic acid was the most abundant phenolic acid, followed by synergic acid and p-coumaric acid, respectively. Catechin, quercetin, luteolin, kaempferol and rutin flavonoids were also found in the methanolic extract. GC-mass analysis showed that aerial parts of Solenostemma argel were rich in 2-(5-methyl-5 vinyl tetrahydro-2-furanyl)-2-propanol (11.63%), hexanoic acid methyl ester (10.93%), 3-dioxolane,4-methyl-2-pentadecyl (9.69%), phenol, 2-(1,1-dimethylethyl) (8.50%). It can be concluded that Solenostemma argel methanolic extract contain natural bioactive constituents with potential medicinal importance such as antioxidants, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activities. A new four-parameter lifetime distribution called the beta binomial exponential 2 (B B E 2) distribution is proposed. Some mathematical features, including quantile function, moments, generating function and characteristic function, of the B B E 2 distribution, are computed. When the life test is truncated at a predetermined time, acceptance sampling plans (ASP) are constructed for the B B E 2 distribution. The truncation time is supposed to represent the median lifetime of the B B E 2 distribution with predetermined factors for the smallest sample size required to guarantee that the prescribed life test is achieved at a given consumer's risk. Some numerical results for a given consumer's risk, B B E 2 distribution parameters and truncation time are derived. Classical (maximum likelihood and maximum product of spacing estimation methods) and Bayesian estimation approaches are utilized to estimate the model parameters. The performance of the model parameters is examined through the simulation study by using the three different approaches of estimation. Subsequently, we examine real-world data applications to demonstrate the versatility and potential of the B B E 2 model. Viruses pose a serious threat to the sustainable production of economically important crops around the world. In the past 20 years, potato virus Y (PVY) emerged as a relatively new and very serious problem in potatoes, even though it is the oldest known plant virus. Multiple strains of the virus cause various symptoms on the leaves and tubers of potatoes, resulting in yield reduction and poor-quality tubers. Consequently, it would be very interesting to learn what causes systemic PVY resistance in plants. Natural compounds such as chitosan (CHT) and phosphorus have been developed as alternatives to chemical pesticides to manage crop diseases in recent years. In the current study, potato leaves were foliar-sprayed with chitosan and phosphorus to assess their ability to induce PVY resistance. Compared to untreated plants, the findings demonstrated a significant decrease in disease severity and PVY accumulation in plants for which CHT and P were applied. Every treatment includes significantly increased growth parameters, chlorophyll content, photosynthetic characteristics, osmoprotectants (glycine betaine, proline, and soluble sugar), non-enzymatic antioxidants (glutathione, phenols, and ascorbic acid), enzymatic antioxidants (peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, lipoxygenase, glutathione reductase, catalase, β-1,3 glucanase, and ascorbate peroxidase), phytohormones (gibberellic acid, indole acetic acid, jasmonic acid, and salicylic acid), and mineral content (phosphorus, nitrogen, and potassium), compared to infected plants. However, compared to PVY infection values, CHT and P treatments showed a significant decrease in malondialdehyde, DPPH, H2O2, O2, OH, and abscisic acid levels. In addition, increased expression levels of some regulatory defense genes, including superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbic acid peroxidase (APX), relative pathogenesis-related 1 basic (PR-1b), and relative phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), were found in all treated plants, compared to PVY-infected plants. Simple Summary: This study aimed to investigate bull thawed semen characteristics under the effect of different concentrations (0, 50, 100, 200, and 400 ng/mL) of EGF being added to the extender prior to freezing. Semen samples collected from four bulls for 8 weeks were pooled, diluted with Bullxcell® extender supplemented with EGF at different concentrations, cooled, and frozen. After thawing, semen was examined for different parameters, including motility, kinetics, vitality, integrity, mitochondrial and antioxidant (SOD) activities, mucus penetration distance, as well as in vitro fertilizing capability. EGF incorporation in semen extender improved the total, progressive, and rapid motility and the sperm velocity at 50, 200, and 400 ng/mL after different incubation periods (from 1 to 4 h). We conclude that EGF supplementation to bull sperm extender before cryopreservation has an improving effect on sperm motility and kinetics without affecting sperm parameters. For 8 weeks, sperm was collected from four fertile bulls, yielding a total of 32 ejaculates. Semen samples were pooled, diluted with Bullxcell® extender, and then cooled, equilibrated, and frozen. After thawing, semen was tested for motility and velocity parameters. Furthermore, semen was evaluated for vitality, integrity, mitochondrial and antioxidant (SOD) activities, mucus penetration distance, and in vitro fertilizing capability. The supplementation with EGF prior to cryopreservation improved the total sperm motility at various concentrations over long incubation periods (from 1 to 4 h). Interestingly, EGF addition improved both progressive and rapid motility, particularly at 50, 200, and 400 ng/mL. In addition, EGF, primarily at 200 and 400 ng/mL, significantly increased several velocity parameters after different incubation periods. We can conclude that adding EGF to bull sperm extender before cryopreservation has a positive stimulatory effect on sperm motility without affecting vitality, integrity, or in vitro fertilizing capability. Listeria monocytogenes is one of the most important emerging foodborne pathogens. The objectives of this work were to investigate the incidence of Listeria spp. and L. monocytogenes in soft cheese and ice cream in Assiut city, Egypt, and to examine the effect of some probiotic Bifidobacterium spp. (Bifidobacterium breve, Bifidobacterium animalis, or a mixture of the two) on the viability of L. monocytogenes in soft cheese. The existence of Listeria spp. and L. monocytogenes was examined in 30 samples of soft cheese and 30 samples of ice cream. Bacteriological analyses and molecular identification (using 16S rRNA gene and hlyA gene for Listeria spp. and L. monocytogenes, respectively) were performed on those samples. Additionally, Bifidobacterium spp. were incorporated in the making of soft cheese to study their inhibitory impacts on L. monocytogenes. Out of 60 samples of soft cheese and ice cream, 25 samples showed Listeria spp., while L. monocytogenes was found in only 2 soft cheese samples. Approximately 37% of soft cheese samples (11 out of 30) had Listeria spp. with about 18.0% (2 out of 11) exhibiting L. monocytogenes. In ice cream samples, Listeria spp. was presented by 47% (14 out of 30), while L. monocytogenes was not exhibited. Moreover, the addition of B. animalis to soft cheese in a concentration of 5% or combined with B. breve with a concentration of 2.5% for each resulted in decreasing L. monocytogenes efficiently during the ripening of soft cheese for 28 d. Listeria spp. is widely found in milk products. Probiotic bacteria, such as Bifidobacterium spp., can be utilized as a natural antimicrobial to preserve food and dairy products. The activity of the P-glycoprotein (P-gp) transporter encoded by the ABCB1 gene confers resistance to anticancer drugs and contributes to cancer-related mortality and morbidity. Recent studies revealed the cytotoxic effects of the endogenous dipeptide carnosine. The current study aimed to investigate the role of carnosine as a potential inhibitor of P-gp activity. We used molecular docking and molecular dynamic simulations to study the possible binding and stability of carnosine-P-gp interactions compared with verapamil. In vitro assays using doxorubicin-resistant NCI/ADR-RES cells were established to test the effects of carnosine (10–300 µM) on P-gp activity by the rhodamine-123 efflux assay and its effect on cell viability and doxorubicin-induced cytotoxicity. Verapamil (10 µM) was used as a positive control. The results showed that carnosine binding depends mainly on hydrogen bonding with GLU875, GLN946, and ALA871, with a higher average Hbond than verapamil. Carnosine showed significant but weaker than verapamil-induced rhodamine-123 accumulation. Carnosine and verapamil similarly inhibited cell viability. However, verapamil showed a more significant potentiating effect on doxorubicin-induced cytotoxicity than a weaker effect of carnosine at 300 µM. These results suggest that carnosine inhibits P-gp activity and potentiates doxorubicin-induced cytotoxicity at higher concentrations. Aeromonas veronii is associated with substantial economic losses in the fish industry and with food-borne illness in humans. This study aimed to determine the prevalence, antibiogram profiles, sequence analysis, virulence and antimicrobial resistance genes, and pathogenicity of A. veronii recovered from Mugil seheli. A total of 80 fish were randomly gathered from various private farms in Suez Province, Egypt. Subsequently, samples were subjected to clinical, post-mortem, and bacteriological examinations. The retrieved isolates were tested for sequence analysis, antibiogram profile, pathogenicity, and PCR detection of virulence and resistance genes. The prevalence of A. veronii in the examined M. seheli was 22.5 % (18/80). The phylogenetic analyses revealed that the tested A. veronii strains shared high genetic similarity with other A. veronii strains from India, UK, and China. Using PCR it was revealed that the retrieved A. veronii isolates harbored the aerA, alt, ser, ompAII, act, ahp, and nuc virulence genes with prevalence of 100%, 82.9%, 61.7%, 55.3%, 44.7%, 36.17%, and 29.8%, respectively. Our findings revealed that 29.8% (14/47) of the retrieved A. veronii strains were XDR to nine antimicrobial classes and carried blaTEM, blaCTX-M, blaSHV,tetA, aadA1, and sul1 resistance genes. Likewise, 19.1% (9/47) of the obtained A. veronii strains were MDR to eight classes and possessed blaTEM, blaCTX-M, blaSHV,tetA, aadA1, and sul1 genes. The pathogenicity testing indicated that the mortality rates positively correlated with the prevalence of virulence-determinant genes. To our knowledge, this is the first report to reveal the occurrence of XDR and MDR A. veronii in M. seheli, an emergence that represents a risk to public health. Emerging XDR and MDR A. veronii in M. seheli frequently harbored aerA, alt, ser, ompAII, and act virulence genes, and blaTEM, sul1, tetA, blaCTX-M, blaSHV, and aadA1 resistance genes. This study aimed to detect the virulent Salmonella serovars (including ESBLs producing) isolated from broiler chickens and humans. Three hundred broilers and sixty human fecal samples were bacteriologically examined. Thirty (10%) and fourteen (23.4%) Salmonella isolates were recovered from broiler and human samples, respectively. The most predominant serovar was S. enteritidis and S. typhimurium. All Salmonella isolates were confirmed by conventional PCR-based invA and ompA genes. Multidrug resistant (MDR) isolates were screened for the detection of adrA and csgD biofilm-associated genes, which were found in all isolated serovars except one S. typhimurium and 2 S. infantis of chicken isolates that were devoid of the adrA gene. Moreover, MDR isolates were screened for detection of seven resistance genes including ESBLs and other classes of resistance genes. Chicken isolates harbored blaTEM, int1, blaCTX and qnrS genes as 100, 27.8, 11.1 and 11.1%, respectively, while all human isolates harbored blaTEM, int1 and int3 genes. The genetic correlations between virulent Salmonella serovars (including antimicrobial resistance) avian and human origins were compared. In conclusion, the high prevalence of virulent ESBL producing Salmonella serovars in broilers and humans with genetic correlations between them might be zoonotic and public health hazards. Lung ultrasound (LUS) is a crucial diagnostic tool for identifying pneumonia in the pediatric age group. However, it plays a limited role in the early distinction between viral and bacterial pneumonia in children. The objectives of our study were to determine if LUS and the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) were useful in identifying and distinguishing between viral and bacterial pneumonia in Egyptian children under the age of two. Within the first 12 h of being admitted to our department, 52 children with clinical symptoms and signs suggestive of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) underwent LUS and the NLR. LUS and the NLR strongly differentiated children with viral from those with bacterial pneumonia. For the early diagnosis and differentiation between viral and bacterial pneumonia in young Egyptian children, LUS was proven to be a noninvasive and reliable method.
