Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is characterized by elevated pulmonary artery pressure, often leading to right heart failure and poor prognosis. Depression, a common comorbidity in PH, significantly affects the quality of life. However, mechanistic insights into the bidirectional relationship between PH and depression and specific treatment interactions remain scarce. Objective: The object was to examine the clinical and therapeutic implications of depression in PH, focusing on its impact on patient outcomes and cost efficiency. Methods: A systematic review of Medline and Google Scholar was conducted to identify studies on depression in PH, emphasizing evidence-based interventions, clinical outcomes, and cost efficiency. Special consideration was given to potential drug interactions between PH medications and depression treatments and to the role of emerging technologies in managing PH-related depression. Results: While depression reduces the quality of life and exacerbates disease severity in PH, depression treatment improves outcomes, particularly when tailored to PH-targeted therapies, considering potential drug–drug interactions. Emerging technologies, including telemedicine, offer innovative approaches to manage depression in PH, enhancing access to care and improving adherence to treatment regimens. Conclusions: Depression in PH must no longer be neglected and should be acknowledged as both a critical comorbidity and a significant driver of disease progression. Interdisciplinary treatment approaches are necessary, considering potential pharmacological interactions and incorporating emerging technologies like telemedicine to improve patient care. This study investigates the use of Mobilized Thermal Energy Storage (MTES) systems to enhance energy efficiency in large-scale Mediterranean buildings, focusing on a university campus in Tripoli, Lebanon. The research question addresses whether MTES can effectively utilize waste heat from a power plant to meet heating, cooling, and water heating needs. We hypothesize that MTES, using Erythritol as the phase change material (PCM) and Therminol55 as the heat transfer fluid (HTF), will improve energy efficiency and reduce costs compared to conventional systems. The methodology involves simulating the MTES system's performance, including charge, self-discharge, and discharge phases, using Simulink-MATLAB. Key findings reveal that increasing the HTF flow reduces the charging time by 29% and enhances the efficiency by 8%, while larger project scales decrease heat costs. Economic analysis shows a payback period (PBP) of 2 years 11 months for heating only and 2 years 1 month for heating and cooling, with annual maintenance costs considered at 5%. Background/Objectives: White matter (WM) structural changes have been found in patients with chronic spinal pain (CSP). In these patients, pain neuroscience education followed by cognition-targeted exercise therapy (i.e., the Modern Pain Neuroscience Approach (MPNA)) was shown to be more effective than biomedically-focused education followed by symptom-contingent exercise therapy for improving clinical outcomes. The present study examined whether an MPNA, compared to biomedically-focused treatment, can change WM structure in regions of interest and whether potential WM structural changes are associated with clinical improvements in patients with CSP. Methods: Patients with CSP were randomized into an experimental (MPNA) or control (biomedically-focused) treatment group. Diffusion-weighted Magnetic Resonance Images were acquired pre-treatment, post-treatment, and at 1-year follow-up. WM structure was assessed using diffusion tensor imaging in 8 WM regions of interest, and linear mixed models assessed differences between groups in response to treatment. Results: No significant treatment x time interaction effects were found; however, significant main effects of time were found in 7 WM tracts. Significant main effects of time revealed increased fractional anisotropy (FA), decreased mean diffusivity (MD), axial diffusivity (AD), and radial diffusivity (RD) in the cingulum hippocampus, and decreased RD and MD in the superior cerebellar peduncle at 1-year follow-up compared to baseline. In contrast, decreased FA and/or increased MD, AD, or RD values were found in other WM tracts (e.g., anterior corona radiata) from pre-treatment to 1-year follow-up. Greater reduction in kinesiophobia was moderately correlated with a smaller decrease in RD in the superior cerebellar peduncle at 1-year follow-up compared to baseline. No other significant associations were found between WM structural changes and clinical improvements. Conclusions: In conclusion, in patients with CSP, regional WM structure changed over time irrespective of prescribed treatment (timespan of 12 months). Further research, including Neurite Orientation Dispersion and Density Imaging and a healthy control group, allowing for a more specific examination of WM microstructural changes in response to multimodal treatment in patients with CSP, is warranted. Background/Objectives: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a combination of conditions including central obesity, high blood pressure, high glucose levels, and abnormal triglycerides and cholesterol, which together increase the chances of heart disease, diabetes, and even death. The rates of MetS are different around the world, with 20–30% in Europe and 21.8–23.9% in Kazakhstan. Because MetS changes over time, it is important to study the dynamics of their components to improve prevention and treatments. This work aims to obtain the incidence of MetS and to evaluate the specific components associated with the emergence of new MetS cases in this population. Methods: This is a longitudinal study with a 10-year follow-up in Turkestan city between 2012 and 2024. Information was collected through physical exams, blood tests, and anthropometric measurements. Logistic regression and ROC curve analysis were used to find which factors increase the incidence of MetS. Results: Among 434 participants analyzed (78.8% women, and mean age 40.87, 66% < 2 MetS components, 20% had MetS blood pressure, and 65.9% had MetS waist circumference), the incidence of MetS at follow-up was 40%. The key risk factors for newly diagnosed MetS included elevated blood pressure and increased waist circumference. Multivariate analyses highlighted these components as the strongest predictors of MetS, with significant associations observed for participants with two or more MetS components at baseline. Conclusions: Elevated blood pressure and central obesity were identified as pivotal contributors to MetS progression. Brugada syndrome (BrS) is an inherited electrical cardiac disorder that is associated with a higher risk of ventricular fibrillation (VF) and sudden cardiac death (SCD) in patients without structural heart disease. The diagnosis is based on the documentation of the typical pattern in the electrocardiogram (ECG) characterized by a J-point elevation of ≥2 mm, coved-type ST-segment elevation, and negative T wave in one or more right precordial leads, called type 1 Brugada ECG. Risk stratification is particularly difficult in asymptomatic cases. Patients who have experienced documented VF are generally recommended to receive an implantable cardioverter defibrillator to lower the likelihood of sudden death due to recurrent episodes. However, for asymptomatic individuals, the most appropriate course of action remains uncertain. Accurate risk prediction is critical to avoiding premature deaths and unnecessary treatments. Due to the challenges associated with experimental research on human cardiac tissue, alternative techniques such as computational modeling and deep learning-based artificial intelligence (AI) are becoming increasingly important. This study introduces a vision transformer (ViT) model that leverages 12-lead ECG images to predict potentially fatal arrhythmic events in BrS patients. This dataset includes a total of 278 ECGs, belonging to 210 patients which have been diagnosed with Brugada syndrome, and it is split into two classes: event and no event. The event class contains 94 ECGs of patients with documented ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, or sudden cardiac death, while the no event class is composed of 184 ECGs used as the control group. At first, the ViT is trained on a balanced dataset, achieving satisfactory results (89% accuracy, 94% specificity, 84% sensitivity, and 89% F1-score). Then, the discarded no event ECGs are attached to additional 30 event ECGs, extracted by a 24 h recording of a singular individual, composing a new test set. Finally, the use of an optimized classification threshold improves the predictions on an unbalanced set of data (74% accuracy, 95% negative predictive value, and 90% sensitivity), suggesting that the ECG signal can reveal key information for the risk stratification of patients with Brugada syndrome. Thiochroman derivatives are highly versatile molecules widely used for the synthesis of novel heterocycles and bioactive compounds. In our study, we conducted the biotransformation of thiochroman-4-ol (1) and 6-chlorothiochroman-4-ol (1a) using the marine-derived fungal strains Emericellopsis maritima BC17 and Purpureocillium lilacinum BC17-2. Biotransformations yielded ten known thiochroman derivatives along with the compound 1-(5-chloro-2-(methylthio)phenyl)propane-1,3-diol (6a), which was described for the first time. Moreover, we successfully characterized the stereoisomers of sulfoxides 3 and 3a. Their structures and absolute configurations were established though comprehensive analyses of NMR, HR ESI-MS, and ECD spectra, as well as by using Mosher's method. Simple Summary: Chronic kidney disease is a progressive disease that results from kidney damage and results in loss of kidney function. Genetic factors, such as allelic variants, can contribute to this disease. This review discusses the link between different allelic variants and CKD progression. Identifying such associations can contribute to the early detection of the disease and support the development of more specific treatment approaches. The incidence and prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) are increasing worldwide. CKD is associated with high morbidity, premature mortality, and high healthcare costs. Genetic variants may influence CKD development and progression. This study aimed to identify the associations between allelic variants and CKD progression. We performed a systematic literature review following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Central databases were used for data collection. Hereditary causes of CKD were excluded from the analysis. A total of 38 reports were included. The selected studies included cohort studies, case-control studies, and genome-wide association studies (GWASs). The studies involved patients of different ethnicities and with comorbid diseases. Several genetic variants were identified in genes that encode proteins related to metabolic processes, oxidative stress, immune regulation, the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone pathway, and epigenetics, among others. These genetic alterations can affect protein function and lead to renal damage, impacting CKD development and progression. Gene polymorphisms can influence CKD progression. Many of these are population-specific, and their relevance may be influenced by the presence of other diseases and environmental factors. A gap analysis proposes a new model of the rent-a-car business with the integration of a shared autonomous vehicle ride-hailing service. The goal is to encourage the growth of additional global shared autonomous vehicle trials and their incorporation into conventional businesses. The primary objective is to enhance shared autonomous mobility options, resulting in increased road safety, decreased traffic, and decreased emissions in urban areas. Brazil is one of the largest consumers of herbicides in the world, and glyphosate-based herbicides (e.g., Roundup®) are commonly applied in cropland. Among vertebrates, amphibians are especially susceptible to contamination due to their strong association with freshwater environments. However, our knowledge of how these herbicides affect amphibians is still scarce, mainly regarding the impacts of commercial formulations. In this study, we experimentally evaluated the effects of Roundup Original DI®, a glyphosate-based herbicide, on tadpoles of Physalaemus cicada and Physalaemus erikae. Spawnings were collected in south and southern Bahia, transported to the laboratory, and kept until the tadpoles reached developmental stage 25. Tadpoles were acclimated for 24 h and subsequently exposed to increasing herbicide concentrations at acute and chronic levels to assess survival, lethal concentration (LC50 96 h), and morphological and ontogenetic responses. Contamination significantly decreased the survival of tadpoles of both species and affected the development of tadpoles of P. erikae. The estimated lethal concentration (LC50) after 96 h for Physalaemus cicada was 5.52 mg a.i./L, and Physalaemus erikae was 3.40 mg a.i./L. Also, at chronic concentrations, morphological changes were observed in the tadpoles of P. erikae, with the changes being mainly in the tadpoles' tail and body shapes. Therefore, Roundup Original DI® is considered moderately toxic to both species. Our results extend the knowledge regarding the action of pesticides mainly for species of the genus Physalaemus, which is the best-known genus for glyphosate based-herbicide toxicity. The practice of physical activity, exercise, and sports brings various benefits to the general population. However, a few intervention programs involving physical activity and sports have been specifically designed for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of implementing a sports program based on gymnastics (specifically trampolines) on the motor skills of children with ASD. The program ran from September to May 2024 (8 months duration) using the Motor Competence Assessment Battery (MCA) as an evaluation tool. It included three typically developing children and three children with ASD, all aged between 4 and 5 years. The program sessions lasted 45 min and took place twice a week. The MCA Battery was administered to assess motor skills before and after the intervention. After the intervention program, significant differences were found only between moments in the Shuttle Run test (pre-intervention ≠ and post-intervention; Bonferroni correction: t = −2.00; p = 0.043; w = 0.33). Based on these results, we can conclude that practicing a sports program based on gymnastics (namely trampolines) can contribute to improving the motor skills of children with ASD. Fibrous by-products, including defective or double cocoons, are obtained during silk processing. These cocoons primarily contain fibroin and sericin (SS) proteins along with minor amounts of wax and mineral salts. In conventional textile processes, SS is removed in the production of smooth, lustrous silk threads, and is typically discarded. However, SS has garnered attention for its antioxidant, antibacterial, biocompatible, and anticancer properties as well as its excellent moisture absorption, making it a promising polymer for biomedical applications. Owing to its functional groups (carboxyl, amino, and hydroxyl), SS can blend and crosslink with other polymers, thereby improving the mechanical properties of sericin-based materials. This study explored the effects of different SS/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) ratios on porous scaffolds fabricated via freeze-drying, focusing on the mechanical stability, water absorption, and protein release in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS). The scaffold morphology revealed reduced porosity with higher SS content, while increased PVA content led to material folding and layering. A greater PVA content enhanced water absorption, mechanical properties, and thermal stability, although SS release decreased. The sustainability of the planet is based on reducing the use of fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions. The recovery of biomass waste puts economically valuable materials into circulation, which can successfully replace fossil fuels and which would otherwise be sent to landfills. Based on the review of several published works, we observe that the referenced processes to value biomass or biomass waste are not necessarily the most profitable and environmentally friendly. The most used methods to valorize biomass and biomass waste are mainly based on researchers knowledge and experience, neglecting some methods that are more appropriate or developing technologies. The valorization of biomass and biomass wastes should promote the production of products with the highest added value, and it must also be environmentally friendly and cost-effective. This manuscript proposes a hierarchy for the use of various valorization processes of biomass waste, from various agricultural activities, urban solids waste, food processing industries, and even wood industries. The proposed hierarchy is based on a number of recommendations aimed at increasing the use and valorization of biomass, in order to reach the objective of carbon neutrality and to comply with the principles of the circular economy. Background/Objectives: Although eligibility criteria for clinical trials significantly impact study outcomes, these criteria are often established without scientific justification, leading to delayed recruitment, small sample sizes, and limited study generalizability. Persistent Lyme disease (PLD) presents unique challenges due to symptom variability, inconsistent treatment responses, and the lack of reliable biomarkers, underscoring the need for scientifically justified eligibility criteria. Objective: This study examines the effects of commonly used enrollment criteria on sample yield in PLD clinical trials using real-world data (RWD) from the MyLymeData patient registry. The study also compares the effects of these criteria on enrollment for PLD versus acute Lyme disease (ALD) trials and evaluates the scientific rationale for each criterion. Methods: Data from 4183 Lyme disease patients enrolled in the MyLymeData registry were analyzed to assess the prevalence and cumulative impact of various criteria on sample yield. A comparative analysis of cohorts with PLD (n = 3589) versus ALD (n = 594) was conducted to identify differences in sample attrition. Results: In a large PLD cohort study, we found that current commonly used eligibility criteria would exclude approximately 90% of patients, significantly limiting study generalizability. Substantial differences in sample attrition between PLD and ALD cohorts highlight the need for tailored criteria. The strength of scientific justification varied widely among criteria. Conclusions: This study demonstrates the importance of using RWD to optimize eligibility criteria in PLD clinical trials. By providing insights into the balance between sample attrition and scientific justification, researchers can enhance trial feasibility, generalizability, and robustness. Our RWD sample demonstrates that researchers could substantially increase the sample yield from 10% to 64% by loosening restrictions on coinfections and misdiagnoses of chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia syndrome, and psychiatric conditions. Background: A number of clinical studies have shown a positive association between the maternal n-3 PUFA status during pregnancy and fetal and newborn development and health. Despite this well-documented role of n-3 PUFAs in pregnancy, data on maternal the LC-PUFAs status during pregnancy in the Indonesian population, to our knowledge, are not yet available. This study reports on the LC-PUFA dietary intake among pregnant women in a suburban population of Bogor City, West Java, Indonesia. It also explores the associations of maternal LC-PUFA intake with maternal blood, cord blood, and breast milk LC-PUFA levels and the associations of the latter with infant body composition. Methods: A total of 142 pregnant women and 104 newborn infants were included in this study. The dietary intake of energy, macronutrients, and selected LC-PUFAs (LA, ALA, EPA, and DHA) was assessed by 2 × 24 h food recall and FFQ. LC-PUFA levels were measured in maternal blood, cord blood, and breast milk. Newborn body composition was determined by anthropometric measures. Results: The study found that the inadequate intake of energy, protein, and carbohydrates was highly prevalent among pregnant women subjects. The intake of the most important n-3 PUFAs (ALA, EPA, and DHA) was far below the recommended values. Maternal dietary DHA intakes were negatively associated with birth weight and infant fat mass at birth, and dietary intake of total fat and n-6 LA were associated with increased fat accumulation in newborns at specific body sites. Moreover, positive correlations were identified between the EPA in maternal blood and infant % fat mass, and between the DHA in cord blood and newborn birth weight. Conclusions: Further longitudinal studies, including clinical and biomolecular analyses, are suggested to be conducted to monitor maternal and child health and nutrition in Indonesia and develop well-attuned intervention strategies. Background: Recent research highlights the potential role of sex-specific variations in cardiovascular disease. The gut microbiome has been shown to differ between the sexes in patients with cardiovascular risk factors. Objectives: The main objective of this study is to analyze the differences between women and men in the relationship between gut microbiota and measures of arterial stiffness. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study in Spain, selecting 180 subjects (122 women, 58 men) aged between 45 and 74. Subjects with arterial stiffness were identified by the presence of at least one of the following: carotid–femoral pulse wave velocity (cf-PWV) above 12 mm/s, cardio–ankle vascular index (CAVI) above nine, or brachial–ankle pulse wave velocity (ba-PWV) above 17.5 m/s. All other cases were considered subjects without arterial stiffness. The composition of the gut microbiome in fecal samples was determined by 16S rRNA sequencing. Results: We found that women have a more diverse microbiome than men (Shannon, p < 0.05). There is also a significant difference in gut microbiota composition between sexes (Bray–Curtis, p < 0.01). Dorea, Roseburia, and Agathobacter, all of them short-chain fatty-acid producers, were more abundant in women's microbiota (log values > 1, p-value and FDR < 0.05). Additionally, Blautia was more abundant in women when only the subjects with arterial stiffness were considered. According to logistic regression, Roseburia was negatively associated with arterial stiffness in men, while Bifidobacterium and Subdoligranulum were positively related to arterial stiffness. Conclusions: In the Spanish population under study, women had higher microbiome diversity and potentially protective genera. Predicting suspended sediment concentration (SSC) profiles with high accuracy remains a critical challenge for environmental and engineering applications. This study presents a novel, data-driven expert system that leverages a knowledge-based framework to select optimal SSC models based on diverse flow conditions. The system utilizes model function ranges and spatial relationships between data points as key decision factors. This methodology is applied to study vertical velocity profiles and SSC distribution in steady and uniform river flows. The system systematically extracts and categorizes influencing parameters, generating weighted averages to interpolate and extrapolate profiles where single models exhibit limitations. Two weight calculation methods are implemented: (1) a spatial conditional probability approach utilizing a uniform distribution within control cells, and (2) an isolated point analysis based on distances to cell centers. This approach exhibits some similarities to Voronoi tessellations and associated Laplace and Sibson weights, offering a robust and innovative method for SSC modeling. The proposed expert system empowers hydrologists and engineers by selecting and applying the most suitable SSC models for different scenarios, leading to enhanced prediction accuracy and reliability. Background/Objective: To investigate the effect of mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) and rituximab (RTX) on pulmonary function test (PFT) results in a mixed cohort of patients with connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD), longitudinally followed up for 1 year in a single academic center. Methods: Patients with CTD-ILD were identified in electronic medical records from 1 January 2009 to 30 April 2019. Prescribed MMF and RTX doses, dosage changes, and therapy plans were analyzed individually with improvement in PFT outcomes determined using multivariable linear regression models during 12-month follow-up. Results: Forty-seven patients with CTD-ILD, treated with MMF, RTX, or both, were included. Patients on combined MMF and RTX had worse PFT outcomes at baseline compared with patients on monotherapy. Substantial improvement was observed among all PFT outcomes from baseline to 12 months, regardless of medication dosage or therapy plans. The diffusing capacity of the lungs for carbon monoxide (DLCO) worsened by an average of 7.21 mL/(min*mmHg) (95% CI, 4.08–10.33; p < 0.001) among patients on RTX compared to combined therapy. Patients on higher doses of MMF at baseline experienced an average increase of 0.93 (95% CI, 0.04–1.82) units in DLCO from baseline to 6 months (p = 0.04) and a 2.79% (95% CI, 0.61–4.97%) increase in DLCO from 6 to 12 months (p = 0.02) within patients on concurrent RTX at 6-month follow-up. Conclusions: The treatment of CTD-ILD with MMF and/or RTX was associated with overall improvement in PFT outcomes. Triglochin maritima, a salt-tolerant plant, has demonstrated antioxidant effects, the ability to prevent prostate enlargement, antifungal properties, and skin moisturizing benefits. This study aimed to explore the anti-melanogenic potential of the 70% ethanol extract of T. maritima (TME) along with its ethyl acetate (TME-EA) and water (TME-A) fractions. TME (10–200 µg/mL), TME-EA (1–15 µg/mL), and TME-A (100–1000 µg/mL) were prepared and applied to B16F10 cells with or without α-MSH for 72 h. MTT assays were used to assess cytotoxicity, and anti-melanogenesis activity was determined by measuring melanin content, conducting a tyrosinase activity assay, and evaluating the expression of melanogenesis-related genes and proteins via RT-PCR and Western blotting. HPLC-PDA was used to analyze TME and TME-EA. The IC20 cytotoxicity values of TME, TME-A, and TME-EA without α-MSH, were 198.426 μg/mL, 1000 μg/mL, and 18.403 μg/mL, respectively. TME and TME-EA significantly decreased melanin and tyrosinase activity in α-MSH-stimulated B16F10 cells, with TME-EA showing comparable effects to arbutin, while TME-A showed no influence. TME-EA down-regulated melanogenesis genes (Tyr, Trp1, Dct, Mitf, Mc1r) and reduced CREB, p-38, and JNK phosphorylation while increasing ERK phosphorylation, suggesting the CREB/MAPK pathway's role in the anti-melanogenic effect. This paper investigates the illegal activities that may negatively impact the environment in Croatia's protected areas, particularly those associated with tourism. Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and sensitivity analysis are used to identify distinct high-risk activities specific to different park types. Coastal parks are found to be particularly vulnerable to maritime-related illegal activities, with high risk exposure from mooring vessels and swimming in prohibited areas. These parks also face significant risks from illegal fishing and the capture of strictly protected plants and animals, highlighting the need for enhanced marine ecosystem protection. Mountainous and forest parks face significant risks from fire-related activities, while wetland parks are sensitive to poaching and illegal fishing. Additionally, diverse landscape parks show increased vulnerability to littering, poaching, and the collection or harvesting of strictly protected plants and animals. The results underscore the necessity for tailored risk-management strategies that prioritize interventions based on park-specific challenges. Our study investigates the intra- and interpopulation diversity of phytopathogenic fungi, using Microdochium nivale as a model organism. A total of 136 strains, representing two populations, were collected from different winter cereal crops (rye, wheat, and triticale) across two agrocenoses. In these strains, we analyzed and compared genetic and phenotypic traits, exploring potential relationships between them. Significant genetic and phenotypic diversity was revealed among the assayed strains, with most exhibiting distinctive genetic features compared to previously characterized strains from other countries. Both populations included highly virulent and lowly virulent strains, with the majority displaying similar virulence levels across different cereal crops. Some strains demonstrated differential virulence toward different crops, and some even exhibited a plant-beneficial effect on rye while being virulent to wheat and triticale. The percentages of strains with specific genetic traits were different in the two analyzed populations. Our study lays the groundwork for identifying genetic markers associated with phenotypic traits in the studied strains, which will aid in developing reliable diagnostics for predicting crop loss risk and improving disease management. The expected number of drone operations in the coming decades, together with the fact that most of them will take place in very-low-level airspace, will lead to a density of drone flights much greater than that of conventional manned aviation. In this context, the number of conflicts (i.e., 4D convergence of drone trajectories below the safe separation minima) will be much more frequent than in manned aviation and, therefore, conventional air traffic management methods or even the specific proposed mechanisms for drone traffic management are unlikely to be able to solve them safely. This paper considers a set of simulated drone trajectories in a high-density urban environment to analyze the applicability of machine learning regression and classification techniques to detect conflicts among such trajectory times in advance of their occurrence in order to provide new methods to manage the expected drone traffic density safely and efficiently. This would not be possible with current drone traffic management solutions. The obtained results suggest that the Random Forest, Artificial Neural Networks and Logistic Regression algorithms could detect nearly all near-collisions up to 10 s before they occur, and the first two algorithms could also detect a significant number of near-collisions more than 60 s earlier. Cereal crops play a critical role in global food security, but their productivity is increasingly threatened by climate change. This study evaluates the feasibility of using PlanetScope satellite imagery and a UAV equipped with the MicaSense RedEdge multispectral imaging sensor in monitoring winter wheat under various fertilizer treatments in a Mediterranean climate. Eleven fertilizer treatments, including organic-mineral fertilizer (OMF) pellets, were tested. The results show that conventional inorganic fertilization provided the highest yield (8618 kg ha⁻1), while yields from OMF showed a comparable performance to traditional fertilizers, indicating their potential for sustainable agriculture. PlanetScope data demonstrated moderate accuracy in predicting canopy cover (R2 = 0.68), crop yield (R2 = 0.54), and grain quality parameters such as protein content (R2 = 0.49), starch (R2 = 0.56), and hectoliter weight (R2 = 0.51). However, its coarser resolution limited its ability to capture finer treatment-induced variability. MicaSense, despite its higher spatial resolution, performed poorly in predicting crop components, with R2 values below 0.35 for yield and protein content. This study highlights the complementary use of remote sensing technologies to optimize wheat management and support climate-resilient agriculture through the integration of sustainable fertilization strategies. The Y chromosome plays a crucial role in understanding the overall landscape of male health. Incorporating the Y chromosome into genomic and epigenomic research may elucidate the male-specific mechanisms behind aging and the pathogenesis of certain conditions, both acute and chronic. Present epigenetic research focuses on the effects of modifications like methylation on autosomal chromosomes. However, little research has been conducted to further these investigations in sex chromosomes, especially the Y chromosome. Epigenetic analyses can identify age-associated CpG sites that may offer potential biomarkers for age estimation and disease risk assessment, among others. This review emphasizes interdisciplinary efforts that have been made in the construction of an assembly and the application of "epigenetic clocks" to the Y chromosome. The studies reviewed here examined the effects of aging on genes such as NLGN4Y, DDX3Y, and TBL1Y, and on male-specific health disparities and disease etiologies, as well as the potential for the use of these genes to assess the diagnostic and age algorithmic potential of Y-specific genes. Background: Grapefruit seed skin particles (GSSPs) have antifungal properties due to the presence of flavonoids. Therefore, it has the potential to display antifungal characteristics when added to acrylic resin, but it could affect the mechanical properties of the resin. This study investigated the effects of adding GSSPs on the mechanical characteristics of 3D-printed denture base resins. Purpose: The aim of the present study was to determine the effects of the addition of GSSPs to 3D-printed acrylic at different concentrations on the degree of conversion (DC), surface hardness, flexural strength, and tensile strength. Methods: In this study, 90 samples were printed with acrylic resin via a Digital Light Processing (DLP) printer. Thirty square samples were used for the surface hardness test. Thirty rectangular samples were used for the flexural strength test, and thirty dumbbell-shaped samples were used for the tensile strength test. These materials were prepared by adding different concentrations of GSSPs (0.0 wt.%, 5.0 wt.%, and 7.0 wt.%), which were determined by a pilot study to be the most effective in 3D denture base resins. The Durometer Shore Hardness Scale (DSHS) was used to measure the surface hardness, and a universal testing machine was employed to gauge the flexural strength and tensile strength. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) was employed for particle size analysis and fracture behavior determination. Results: Compared with those of the control group, the degree of conversion (DC), surface hardness, flexural strength, and tensile strength of the treated groups significantly improved after the addition of 5.0 wt.% and 7.0 wt.% GSSPs. The FE‒SEM images revealed a decrease in porosity as the concentration of GSSPs increased with a brittle fracture behavior. Conclusions: The addition of GSSPs to 3D-printed acrylic is recommended because of their significant positive impacts on the mechanical properties of 3D-printed denture base resin. For pediatric patients with full-thickness burns, achieving adequate dermal regeneration is essential to prevent inelastic scars that may hinder growth. Traditional autologous split-thickness skin grafts alone often fail to restore the dermal layer adequately. This study evaluates the long-term effect of using a NovoSorb® Biodegradable Temporizing Matrix (BTM) as a dermal scaffold in four pediatric patients, promoting dermal formation before autografting. Pediatric burn patients treated at the University Children's Hospital Zurich between 2020 and 2022 underwent a two-step treatment involving NovoSorb® BTM application, followed by autografting. Histological analysis, conducted through 22 punch biopsies taken up to 2.6 years post-application, demonstrated robust dermal reorganization, with mature epidermal regeneration and stable dermo-epidermal connections. Immunofluorescence staining showed rapid capillary ingrowth, while extracellular matrix components, including collagen and elastic fibers, gradually aligned over time, mimicking normal skin structure. By 2.6 years, the dermal layer displayed characteristics close to uninjured skin, with remnants of NovoSorb® BTM degrading within five months post-application. This study suggests that NovoSorb® BTM facilitates elastic scar formation, offering significant benefits for pediatric patients by reducing functional limitations associated with inelastic scarring. Advancements in membrane separation techniques will expand the applications and requirements for highly specialized, inventive, efficient, and resistant separation materials. The selective separation of rare earth elements (REEs) is one of the expanding applications of membrane-based techniques, as their use is becoming more widespread. Membrane techniques are becoming increasingly desired as environmentally friendly, straightforward methods for treating wastewater and separating metals. For the separation of REEs, an innovative impregnated mixed-matrix membrane (IMMM) technique was developed in this study. Background/Objectives: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a prevalent condition among older adults, particularly in nursing home residents. Furthermore, it is associated with significant physical, emotional, and financial burdens. Effective management of UI depends on the knowledge and practices of nursing professionals, who are responsible for fundamental care. However, their knowledge and practice gaps remain challenging. Therefore, the study aimed to assess the knowledge and practice of nursing professional regarding urinary incontinence, to explore whether there are differences in knowledge and practice concerning their sociodemographic characteristics and to determine if there is a correlation between knowledge and practice regarding UI. Methods: A multicentre descriptive, cross-sectional study design following STROBE guidelines was conducted. The sample comprised 171 participants, and as research instruments, the Urinary Incontinence Quiz (UIQ) and the Urinary Knowledge and Practice Instrument (UKPI) were used. Results: The overall knowledge of nursing professionals about UI in older people was suboptimal, but most were familiar with the causes of UI, and that toilet training can improve incontinence. Nursing professionals with continuing education or interest in learning more about UI demonstrated significantly higher knowledge levels. Practice scores revealed that continence care interventions were often implemented, but documentation and support practices such as comprehensive toileting plans were less frequently performed. A weak but significant positive correlation was found between knowledge and practice. Conclusions: The study highlights substantial knowledge and practice gaps in UI management among nursing professionals in Serbia. Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) has a millennia-long history, with early references dating back to ancient Egypt and India. However, it was not until the 20th century that the connection between diabetes and insulin was fully understood. The sequencing of insulin in the 1950s initiated the convergence of biotechnology and diabetes management, leading to the development of recombinant human insulin in 1982. This marked the start of peptide-based therapies in DM. Recombinant peptides for DM treatment: Numerous recombinant peptides have been developed since, starting with modified insulin molecules, with the aim of bettering DM management through fine-tuning the glycemic response to insulin. Objectives: This study presents a systematic review aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of virtual patients in enhancing clinical reasoning skills in medical education. A hybrid methodology was used, combining human reviewers and ChatGPT to assess the impact of conversational virtual patients on student learning outcomes and satisfaction. Methods: Various studies involving conversational virtual patients were analyzed to determine the effect of these digital tools on clinical competencies. The hybrid review process incorporated both human assessments and AI-driven reviews, allowing a comparison of accuracy between the two approaches. Results: Consistent with previous systematic reviews, our findings suggest that conversational virtual patients can improve clinical competencies, particularly in history-taking and clinical reasoning. Regarding student feedback, satisfaction tends to be higher when virtual patients' interactions are more realistic, often due to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing (NLP) in the simulators. Furthermore, the study compares the accuracy of AI-driven reviews with human assessments, revealing comparable results. Previous work presented a reference model for shared autonomous vehicles in urban areas supported by a systematic literature review and topic modeling. The proposed reference model was then evaluated with two real-world demonstrations: the service provided by Waymo in Phoenix and another offered by Baidu in Beijing. Patient safety in psychiatric inpatient facilities remains under-researched despite its crucial importance. This study aims to address this gap by using expert opinion to estimate the frequency of diverse patient safety incidents (PSIs) in psychiatric settings and to compare it with the existing literature. Utilizing a seven-step approach, a questionnaire based on the World Health Organization's International Classification for Patient Safety was developed and deployed. A total of 33 expert opinions were collected. Results showed a higher estimated incidence of PSIs in psychiatric settings compared to general healthcare, highlighting categories such as patient behavior, medication, and infrastructure as significant contributors. Experts emphasized the prevalence of incidents related to behavioral issues and inadequate infrastructure, areas often overlooked in the existing literature. Unlike general settings, psychiatric facilities appear more vulnerable to specific PSIs, such as those related to medication and building safety, underscoring the need for targeted safety measures. Conventional cell spheroid production methods are largely manual, leading to variations in size and shape that compromise consistency and reliability for use in cell-based therapeutic applications. To enhance spheroid production, a spherical shell bioprinting system was implemented, enabling the high-throughput generation of uniform cell spheroids with precisely controlled sizes. The system encapsulates cells within thin alginate hydrogel shells formed through bioprinting and ion crosslinking reactions. Alginate–calcium ion crosslinking created alginate shells that contained gelatin-based bioinks with embedded cells, facilitating spontaneous cell aggregation within the shells and eliminating the need for plastic wells. By adjusting cell concentrations in the alginate–gelatin bioink, we achieved precise control over spheroid size, maintaining a sphericity above 0.94 and size deviations within ±10 µm. Two-dimensional (2D) culture models and animal experiments have been widely used to study the pathogenesis of periodontal and peri-implant diseases and to test new treatment approaches. However, neither of them can reproduce the complexity of human periodontal tissues, making the development of a successful 3D oral mucosal model a necessity. The soft-tissue attachment formed around a tooth or an implant function like a biologic seal, protecting the deeper tissues from bacterial infection. The aim of this review is to explore the advancements made so far in the biofabrication of a junctional epithelium around a tooth-like or an implant insert in vitro. This review focuses on the origin of cells and the variety of extracellular components and biomaterials that have been used for the biofabrication of 3D oral mucosa models. The existing 3D models recapitulate soft-tissue attachment around implant abutments and hydroxyapatite discs. Hereby, the qualitative and quantitative assessments performed for evidencing the soft-tissue attachment are critically reviewed. In perspective, the design of sophisticated 3D models should work together for oral immunology and microbiology biofilms to accurately reproduce periodontal and peri-implant diseases. This study aimed to describe a case of simultaneous guided bone regeneration (GBR) and implant placement in a patient with prior aesthetic implant failure, focusing on achieving optimal aesthetic and functional outcomes, and to perform a literature review of the current evidence. A 38-year-old male presented with an improperly positioned implant at the level of the right upper central (tooth 2.1), leading to aesthetic and functional issues. The initial assessment included a panoramic radiograph revealing marginal bone loss and an enlarged peri-implant space, necessitating implant removal. Following implant removal and provisional restoration, the patient was re-evaluated for subsequent therapeutic treatments. The patient underwent orthodontic treatment to improve mesio-distal spacing, followed by surgical intervention involving GBR and simultaneous implant placement. The GBR procedure utilised bone substitutes and resorbable membranes, with soft tissue augmentation conducted subsequently. The surgical intervention involved local anaesthesia, flap design, defect assessment, and palatally oriented implant placement. GBR was then performed. After six months, implant uncovering and soft tissue augmentation were conducted. The implant was loaded with a screwed restoration following complete hard and soft tissue healing. The patient was monitored every six months for two years, then annually. At the 10-year follow-up, no signs of bone resorption or soft tissue inflammation were observed. This case demonstrated that GBR and simultaneous implant placement, with the application of advanced biomaterials, effectively promoted osseointegration and maintained aesthetic and functional stability over a decade. This study investigates the impact of tightening torque (preload) and the friction coefficient on stress generation and fatigue resistance of a Ti-6Al-4V abutment screw with an internal hexagonal connection under dynamic multi-axial masticatory loads in high-cycle fatigue (HCF) conditions. A three-dimensional model of the implant–abutment assembly was simulated using ANSYS Workbench 16.2 computer aided engineering software with chewing forces ranging from 300 N to 1000 N, evaluated over 1.35 × 107 cycles, simulating 15 years of service. Results indicate that the healthy range of normal to maximal mastication forces (300–550 N) preserved the screw's structural integrity, while higher loads (≥800 N) exceeded the Ti-6Al-4V alloy's yield strength, indicating a risk of plastic deformation under extreme conditions. Stress peaked near the end of the occluding phase (206.5 ms), marking a critical temporal point for fatigue accumulation. Optimizing the friction coefficient (0.5 µ) and preload management improved stress distribution, minimized fatigue damage, and ensured joint stability. Abnormal melanogenesis upon UV exposure causes excessive oxidative stress, leading to hyperpigmentation disorders. As a key rate-limiting enzyme in melanogenesis, tyrosinase is considered a primary target for depigmenting agents. Sophora flavescens is used as a food and in traditional medicine as a valuable source of prenylated flavonoids. The present study aimed to elucidate the anti-melanogenic effect and potential mechanism of kuraridin, one of the major prenylated flavonoids. Kuraridin showed anti-tyrosinase activity with an IC50 value in the nanomolar range, superior to that of kojic acid, a positive control. It significantly reduced tyrosinase activity with the least cytotoxicity, suppressing melanogenesis in α-MSH-induced B16F10 cells. Furthermore, kuraridin considerably reduced melanogenesis in a 3D human skin model. To elucidate the anti-melanogenic mechanism of kuraridin, target genes (KIT, MAP2K1, and PRKCA) and pathways (c-KIT and ETB-R pathways) were identified using network pharmacology. KIT and MAP2K1 are simultaneously involved in the c-KIT cascade and are considered the most important in melanogenesis. PRKCA acts directly on MITF and its downstream enzymes through another pathway. Docking simulation showed strong interactions between kuraridin and c-KIT, ERK1/2, and PKC encoded by target genes. Amyloid β protein (Aβ) deposition has been implicated as the molecular driver of Alzheimer's disease (AD) progression. The modulation of the formation of abnormal aggregates and their post-translational modification is strongly suggested as the most effective approach to anti-AD. Beta-site APP-cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE1) acts upstream in amyloidogenic processing to generate Aβ, which rapidly aggregates alone or in combination with acetylcholinesterase (AChE) to form fibrils. Accumulated Aβ promotes BACE1 activation via glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) and is post-translationally modified by glutaminyl cyclase (QC), resulting in increased neurotoxicity. A novel multi-target inhibitor as a potential AD agent was identified using an in silico approach and experimental validation. Magnolia officinalis, which showed the best anti-AD activity in our preliminary study, was subjected to analysis, and 82 compounds were studied. Among 23 compounds with drug-likeness, blood–brain barrier penetration, and safety, honokiol emerged as a lead structure for the inhibition of BACE1, AChE, QC, and GSK-3β in docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Furthermore, honokiol was found to be an excellent multi-target inhibitor of these enzymes with an IC50 of 6–90 μM, even when compared to other natural single-target inhibitors. Taken together, the present study is the first to demonstrate that honokiol acts as a multiple enzyme inhibitor with an excellent pharmacokinetic and safety profile which may provide inhibitory effects in broad-range areas including the overproduction, aggregation, and post-translational modification of Aβ. Accurate land surface temperature (LST) retrieval depends on precise knowledge of the land surface emissivity (LSE). Neglecting or inaccurately estimating the emissivity introduces substantial errors and uncertainty in LST measurements. The emissivity, which varies across different surfaces and land uses, reflects material composition and surface roughness. Satellite data offer a robust means to determine LSE at large scales. This study utilises the Normalised Difference Vegetation Index Threshold Method (NDVITHM) to produce a novel emissivity dataset spanning the last 40 years, specifically tailored for the Fennoscandian region, including Norway, Sweden, and Finland. Leveraging the long and continuous data series from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) sensors aboard the NOAA and MetOp satellites, an emissivity dataset is generated for 1981–2022. This dataset incorporates snow-cover information, enabling the creation of annual emissivity time series that account for winter conditions. LSE time series were extracted for six 15 × 15 km study sites and compared against the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) MOD11A2 LSE product. The intercomparison reveals that, while both datasets generally align, significant seasonal differences exist. These disparities are attributable to differences in spectral response functions and temporal resolutions, as well as the method considering fixed values employed to calculate the emissivity. This study presents, for the first time, a 40-year time series of the emissivity for AVHRR channels 4 and 5 in Fennoscandia, highlighting the seasonal variability, land-cover influences, and wavelength-dependent emissivity differences. Viral respiratory diseases place a heavy burden on the healthcare system, with children making up a significant portion of related hospitalizations. While comorbidities increase the risk of complications and poor outcomes, many hospitalized children lack clear risk factors. As new vaccines for respiratory viral diseases emerge, this study examined pediatric respiratory hospitalizations, focusing on viral etiology, complication rates, and the impact of comorbidities to guide future policy. Data were analyzed from eight pre-COVID influenza seasons (2011/2012–2018/2019) involving patients under 18 years hospitalized with respiratory complaints across 4–10 hospitals in Valencia, Spain. Respiratory specimens were tested for eight viral targets using multiplex real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction. Demographics, clinical outcomes, discharge diagnoses, and laboratory results were examined. Among the hospitalized children, 26% had at least one comorbidity. These children had higher rates of pneumonia, asthma exacerbation, and pneumothorax, and were twice as likely to require ICU admission, though mechanical ventilation and length of stay were similar to those without comorbidities. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) was the most common virus detected (23.1%), followed by rhinovirus/enterovirus (9.5%) and influenza (7.2%). Viral codetection decreased with age, occurring in 4.6% of cases. Comorbidities increase the risk of complications in pediatric respiratory illnesses, however, healthcare utilization is driven largely by otherwise healthy children. The global poultry industry, as a leading producer of animal protein, faces significant challenges related to animal health and production due to high bird density and disease risks. A major concern is the Avian Respiratory Complex (ARC), a multifactorial health issue involving pathogens such as avian metapneumovirus (aMPV), an often-underdiagnosed component of the ARC. Wild birds are seen as reservoirs and spreaders of the virus. This study aimed to detect the presence and subtypes of aMPV in samples from breeders, broilers, laying hens, and wild birds in Colombia. A total of 273 samples, including swabs from the upper respiratory and reproductive tracts, were collected from commercial poultry and wild birds. Using nested RT-PCR targeting the G gene, aMPV subtype B was identified in 23 samples (8.42%). Sequencing revealed high genetic similarity to vaccine strains, classifying all viruses as vaccine-like. In the commercial birds, aMPV-B appeared in 21 samples, regardless of symptoms, often in tests for other ARC agents, indicating diagnostic bias. In the wild birds, two samples tested positive, suggesting potential transmission between wild and domestic birds. This study involved a randomized clinical trial that included 140 patients. Alveolar ridge preservation was performed with xenografts. Sealing in the control group consisted of a collagen membrane versus cyanoacrylate in the test group. The dental implants were placed immediately after extraction. The variables were evaluated at 3, 12, and 18 months of follow-up. Pearson's chi-squared test was used for qualitative variables and the Student t-test for related samples was used for quantitative variables. The change in buccolingual alveolar bone width was significantly greater in the CMX group than in the CX group after three months (p < 0.005). However, significance was not reached at the other follow-up timepoints (p > 0.005). CAL showed significantly greater values in the CMX group than in the CX group (p < 0.005), and MBL proved greater in the CMX group than in the CX group, with p < 0.001. Five membrane exposures were recorded in the CMX group. The potential substitution of Portland cement–based concrete with low- and high-calcium fly ash–based geopolymers was investigated. However, predicting the workability and compressive strength of geopolymers with the desired physical and mechanical properties is a complicated process because of the variety of chemical compositions found in aluminosilicate sources. Therefore, machine-learning techniques were used to predict the physical and mechanical properties of the geopolymers and eliminate the usual trial-and-error laboratory procedures. The experimental and predicted results of geopolymer properties using the multilayer perceptron regressor, voting regressor, and XGBoost techniques were compared. The XGBoost model outperformed the other models in terms of accuracy for predicting workability and compressive strength, producing the R2 of 0.96 and 0.89, respectively. Sensitivity analysis determined that the percentage of CaO had the largest effect on geopolymer workability of 27.13%. Fly ash content had the largest effect on compressive strength of 34.44%. Landslides pose a significant threat worldwide, leading to numerous fatalities and severe economic losses. The city of Manizales, located in the Colombian Andes, is particularly vulnerable due to its steep topography and permeable volcanic ash-derived soils. This study aims to assess landslide hazards in Manizales by integrating shallow planar and deep-seated circular failure mechanisms using physics-based models (TRIGRS and Scoops3D). By combining hazard zonation maps with rainfall thresholds calibrated through historical data, we provide a refined approach for early warning systems (EWS) in the region. Our results underscore the significance of the landslide hazard maps, which combine shallow planar and deep-seated circular failure scenarios. By categorizing urban areas into high, medium, and low-risk zones, we offer a practical framework for urban planning. Moreover, we developed physics-based rainfall thresholds for early landslide warning, simplifying their application while aiming to enhance regional predictive accuracy. This comprehensive approach equips local authorities with essential tools to mitigate landslide risks, refine hazard zoning, and strengthen early warning systems, promoting safer urban development in the Andean region and beyond, as the physics-based methods used are well-established and implemented globally. Background and objectives: Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a primary immunodeficiency characterized by decreased immunoglobulins and recurrent infections, with non-infectious complications such as granulomatous–lymphocytic interstitial lung disease (GLILD) affecting up to 30% of patients. Methods: Using high-throughput 16S rRNA gene sequencing, salivary, sputum, and fecal microbiome from CVID patients with GLILD, comparing them to CVID patients without GLILD—with immune dysregulation (dCVID) and only infections (iCVID)—and healthy controls was analyzed. Results: A total of 41 CVID patients, 7 with GLILD, and 15 healthy donors were included. Global fecal biodiversity was significantly lower in GLILD patients compared to CVID subgroups and controls. GLILD patients harbored different specific bacterial communities in all niches, with some keystone species common to dCVID. Conchiformibius, Micrococcales, and Capnocytophaga are more frequent in the sputum of GLILD patients. Saliva in GLILD shows higher frequencies of Conchiformibius and Haemophilusparainfluenzae. Fecal samples from GLILD patients have higher levels of Gemella morbilorum, Lacticaseibacillus, and Cellulosimicrobium. A non-assigned Conchiformibius spp. is consistently associated with GLILD across different niches and could be a potential pathobiont or relevant microbiological marker for GLILD. Cluster network and correlation analyses show profound dysbiosis in the sputum, saliva, and feces of GLILD patients. Conclusions: These findings highlight significant microbiome alterations in CVID patients with GLILD, particularly in the respiratory tract, suggesting a possible link to both local and systemic immune dysregulation. Background: Cardiovascular diseases, including coronary heart disease (CHD), are currently positioned among the leading causes of mortality globally. Risk factors of CHD include, among others, hypercholesterolemia and elevations in systemic inflammation. Functional foods enriched with compounds showing cholesterol-lowering effects are considered one among various dietary and lifestyle intervention strategies to tackle this problem. A CHD-preventive effect of dietary plant sterols has been broadly discussed, not only due to their ability to reduce blood cholesterol level, but also to their proven anti-inflammatory potential. Palm oil is one of the most widely consumed edible oils in the world. Despite its widespread use, especially in Asian countries, no study has been conducted using palm oil as a vehicle for plant sterols. Methods: The aim of the placebo-controlled double-blinded trial presented here was, therefore, to evaluate the effect of palm oil enriched with plant sterols, used as a cooking oil, on lipid profile and systemic inflammation marker in 100 adult hyperlipidemic residents of Bogor, Indonesia. Results: The study has shown a significant reduction in total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol level in study subjects consuming plant sterol-enriched palm oil as a replacement for usual palm oil for cooking, with no similar effect on CRP levels. Conclusions: The study suggests that, along with a healthy diet and lifestyle promotion, incorporating plant sterols in palm oil used for cooking may be an effective strategy to reduce cardiovascular risks in hyperlipidemic individuals. The Macrophage-Inducible C-type Lectin receptor (Mincle) plays a critical role in innate immune recognition and pathology, and therefore represents a promising target for vaccine adjuvants. Innovative trehalose-based Mincle agonists with improved pharmacology and potency may prove useful in the development of Th17-mediated adaptive immune responses. Herein, we report on in vitro and in silico investigations of specific Mincle ligand–receptor interactions required for the effective receptor engagement and activation of Th17-polarizing cytokines. Specifically, we employed a library of trehalose benzoate scaffolds, varying the degree of aryl lipidation and regiochemistry that produce inflammatory cytokines in a Mincle-dependent fashion. In vitro interleukin-6 (IL-6) cytokine production by human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (hPBMCs) indicated that the lipid regiochemistry is key to potency and maximum cytokine output, with the tri-substituted compounds inducing higher levels of IL-6 in hPBMCs than the di-substituted derivatives. Additionally, IL-6 production trended higher after stimulation with compounds that contained lipids ranging from five to eight carbons long, compared to shorter (below five) or longer (above eight) carbon chains, across all the substitution patterns. An analysis of the additional cytokines produced by hPBMCs revealed that compound 4d, tri-substituted and five carbons long, induced significantly greater levels of interleukin-1β (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF-α), interleukin-23 (IL-23), and interferon- γ (IFN-γ) than the other compounds tested in this study. An in silico assessment of 4d highlighted the capability of this analogue to bind to the human Mincle carbohydrate recognition domain (CRD) efficiently. Together, these data highlight important structure–activity findings regarding Mincle-specific cytokine induction, generating a lead adjuvant candidate for future formulations and immunological evaluations. The second victim phenomenon (SVP) refers to workers negatively impacted by involvement in unanticipated adverse events or errors. While this phenomenon has been extensively studied in healthcare since its acknowledgment over 20 years ago, its presence and management in other high-risk industries have remained unclear. We conducted a scoping review aiming to map the SVP in non-healthcare industries, as well as to explore the available interventions or support programs addressed to help second victims (SVs). A total of 5818 unique records were identified and, after the screening process, 18 studies from eight sectors were included. All industries acknowledged the existence of the SVP, though many did not use a specific term for defining the SV. Similarities in psychological and emotional consequences were found across sectors. Support strategies varied, with the aviation sector implementing the most comprehensive programs. Self-care and peer support were the most reported interventions, while structured clinical support was not mentioned in any industry. Our review highlighted a lack of standardized terminology and industry-specific, evidence-based support interventions for the SVP outside of healthcare. Healthcare appears to be at the forefront of formally recognizing and addressing the SVP, despite traditionally learning from other high-reliability industries in safety practices. Simple Summary: Red Data Books, by encompassing comprehensive lists of species and their statuses, are crucial indicators of the health of the world's biodiversity and powerful tools to guide conservation actions. Moreover, the adopted IUCN system for extinction risk assessment, structured around specific categories and criteria, provides an objective framework that enhances our understanding of the conservation trends of individual species over time. This study outlines the procedures used for collecting, processing, and categorizing data concerning the most recent additions to the list of mammals on mainland Portugal, as documented in the recently revised Red Book. This selection is based on three requirements: (i) species newly recorded, (ii) species newly designated taxonomically, and (iii) newly occasional species. A total of 10 species meet the requirements (i) and (ii), organized into four taxonomic groups: Eulipotyphla (1), Chiroptera (4), Rodentia (2), and Cetacea (3). All these species have been assessed for the first time, with most falling into a threatened category. Additionally, six more Cetacea species were listed as vagrant at a regional level (requirement iii) and were not considered for category assignment in the Red Data Book. This study outlines the procedures used for collecting, processing, and categorizing data on 16 new mammal species for mainland Portugal, belonging to four taxonomic groups: Eulipotyphla (1), Chiroptera (4), Rodentia (2), and Cetacea (9). Data collection and processing encompassed field and lab work and bibliographic compilation. Data categorization involves, whenever possible, the assessment of the approximate number of mature individuals in populations, the extent of occurrence, and the area of occupancy. The approach employed led to the classification of eight out of the 16 species into an IUCN category: two non-volant small mammals and one bat species were designated as Vulnerable, requiring ongoing monitoring; one rodent and three cetaceans were assigned to Data Deficient due to insufficient available information; and a single bat species was classified as Least Concern due to the high abundance of local populations. For small mammals and bats, alterations to natural systems and climate change emerged as the most relevant threatening factors, while for cetaceans, human activities such as fishing, commercial shipping, and tourism were identified as the primary survival risks.
