Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and H1N1 viruses are inflammatory lung pathogens that can lead to acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ALI/ARDS are still life-threatening diseases in critically ill patients with 30–40% mortality in the last decade. Currently, there are no laboratory tests for the early diagnosis or prognosis of ALI/ARDS. Club cell secretory protein (CC16) has been investigated as a potential biomarker of lung epithelial damage in various lung diseases. In this study, we evaluated whether plasma CC16 reflects the severity of COVID-19 and H1N1 infections. The plasma CC16 levels showed no significant differences between H1N1 and COVID-19 groups (p = 0.09). Among all subjects, CC16 levels were significantly higher in non-survivors than in survivors (p = 0.001). Upon the area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) analysis, CC16 had an acceptable value to distinguish survivors and non-survivors (p = 0.002). In the COVID-19 group, plasma CC16 levels moderately correlated with the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) score (r = 0.374, p = 0.003) and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score (r = 0.474, p < 0.001). In the H1N1 group, a positive correlation was observed between the CC16 levels and hospital length of stay (r = 0.311, p = 0.022). Among all the patients, weak correlations between plasma CC16 levels with the SOFA score (r = 0.328, p < 0.001) and hospital length of stay (r = 0.310, p < 0.001) were observed. The loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) is a common treatment for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). Photodynamic therapy (PDT) mediated by 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) is a non-invasive modality that has been used for treating precancerous diseases and HPV infections. This comparative study evaluated the efficacy and safety of ALA PDT and the LEEP in the treatment of cervical high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSILs). Patient records were reviewed and HSIL patients with HPV infections (24–51 years old) who underwent PDT or LEEP treatment were selected. Efficacy was analyzed blindly based on HPV-DNA, cytology, and colposcopy-directed biopsy obtained at 6 months after treatment. Treatment-related discomfort and side effects were also analyzed. Cure rates of 88.1% and 70.0% were achieved for the PDT group and LEEP group (p < 0.05), respectively. HPV-negative conversion rates of 81.0% and 62.0% were achieved for the PDT group and LEEP group (p < 0.05), respectively. The overall lesion remission rate of the PDT group was 19% higher than that of the LEEP group. The incidence of side effects was much lower in the PDT group. The time-dependent interfacial adhesion between rock and fresh mortar is key for printing concrete linings in mountain tunnels. However, a scientific deficit exists in the time-dependent evolution of the interfacial adhesion, which can cause adhesion failure when printing tunnel lining. Nanoclay has the potential to increase the interfacial adhesion and eliminate the adhesion failure. Before the actual printing of tunnel linings, the time-dependent interfacial adhesion between artificial rock and fresh mortar modified by nanoclay should be understood. This paper studied the time-dependent interfacial adhesion based on fast tack tests, fast shear tests, and isothermal calorimetry tests. With the addition of nanoclay, the maximum tensile stress and the maximum shear stress increased. Compared with a reference series, the maximum interfacial tensile stress in a 0.3% nanoclay series increased by 106% (resting time 1 min) and increased by 209% (resting time 32 min). A two-stage evolution of the interfacial adhesion was found with the addition of nanoclay. In the first stage, the time-dependent interfacial adhesion increased rapidly. A 0.3% NC series showed an increase rate six times higher than that of the reference series. As the matrices aged, the increase rate slowed down and followed a linear pattern of increase, still higher than that of the reference series. The stiffening of fresh matrices resulted in the interface failure mode transition from a ductile failure to a brittle failure. The effect of nanoclay on flocculation and on accelerating the hydration contributed to the time-dependent interfacial adhesion between artificial rock and fresh mortar. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A novel multistatic integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system based on macro–micro cooperation for the sixth-generation (6G) mobile network is proposed. Instead of using macrosites at both the transmitter and receiver sides, microsites are considered as receivers in cooperative sensing. This system is important since microsites can be deployed more flexibly to reduce their distances to the sensing objects, providing better coverage for sensing service. In this work, we first analyze the deployment problem of microsites, which can be deployed along the radius and azimuth angle to cover macrosite cells. The coverage area of each microsite is derived in terms of its position in the cell. Then, we describe an efficient estimating approach for obtaining the position and velocity of sensing objects in the macrosite cell. By choosing multiple microsites around the targeted sensing area, joint data processing with an efficient optimization method is also provided. Simulation results show that the multistatic ISAC system employing macro–micro cooperation can improve the position and velocity estimation accuracy of objects compared to systems employing macrosite cooperation alone, demonstrating the effectiveness and potential for implementing the proposed system in the 6G mobile network. Aboveground biomass (AGB) is a key parameter reflecting crop growth which plays a vital role in agricultural management and ecosystem assessment. Real-time and non-destructive biomass monitoring is essential for accurate field management and crop yield prediction. This study utilizes a multi-sensor-equipped unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to collect remote sensing data during critical growth stages of millet, including spectral, textural, thermal, and point cloud information. The use of RGB point cloud data facilitated plant height extraction, enabling subsequent analysis to discern correlations between spectral parameters, textural indices, canopy temperatures, plant height, and biomass. Multiple linear regression (MLR), support vector machine (SVM), and random forest (RF) models were constructed to evaluate the capability of different features and integrated multi-source features in estimating the AGB. Findings demonstrated a strong correlation between the plant height derived from point cloud data and the directly measured plant height, with the most accurate estimation of millet plant height achieving an R2 of 0.873 and RMSE of 7.511 cm. Spectral parameters, canopy temperature, and plant height showed a high correlation with the AGB, and the correlation with the AGB was significantly improved after texture features were linearly transformed. Among single-factor features, the RF model based on textural indices showcased the highest accuracy in estimating the AGB (R2 = 0.698, RMSE = 0.323 kg m−2, and RPD = 1.821). When integrating two features, the RF model incorporating textural indices and canopy temperature data demonstrated optimal performance (R2 = 0.801, RMSE = 0.253 kg m−2, and RPD = 2.244). When the three features were fused, the RF model constructed by fusing spectral parameters, texture indices, and canopy temperature data was the best (R2 = 0.869, RMSE = 0.217 kg m−2, and RPD = 2.766). The RF model based on spectral parameters, texture indices, canopy temperature, and plant height had the highest accuracy (R2 = 0.877, RMSE = 0.207 kg m−2, and RPD = 2.847). In this study, the complementary and synergistic effects of multi-source remote sensing data were leveraged to enhance the accuracy and stability of the biomass estimation model. One-carbon folate metabolites and one-carbon-related amino acids play an important role in human physiology, and their detection in biological samples is essential. However, poor stability as well as low concentrations and occurrence in different species in various biological samples make their quantification very challenging. The aim of this study was to develop a simple, fast, and sensitive ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography MS/MS (UHPLC–MS/MS) method for the simultaneous quantification of various one-carbon folate metabolites (folic acid (FA), tetrahydrofolic acid (THF), p-aminobenzoyl-L-glutamic acid (pABG), 5-formyltetrahydrofolic acid (5-CHOTHF), 5-methyltetrahydrofolic acid (5-CH3THF), 10-formylfolic acid (10-CHOFA), 5,10-methenyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydrofolic acid (5,10-CH+-THF), and 4-α-hydroxy-5-methyltetrahydrofolate (hmTHF)) and one-carbon-related amino acids (homocysteine (Hcy), methionine (Met), S-ade-L-homocysteine (SAH), and S-ade-L-methionine (SAM)). The method was standardized and validated by determining the selectivity, carryover, limits of detection, limits of quantitation, linearity, precision, accuracy, recovery, and matrix effects. The extraction methods were optimized with respect to several factors: protease–amylase treatment on embryos, deconjugation time, methanol precipitation, and proteins' isoelectric point precipitation on the folate recovery. Ten one-carbon folate metabolites and four one-carbon-related amino acids were detected using the UHPLC–MS/MS technique in various biological samples. The measured values of folate in human plasma, serum, and whole blood (WB) lay within the concentration range for normal donors. The contents of each analyte in mouse plasma were as follows: pABG (864.0 nmol/L), 5-CH3THF (202.2 nmol/L), hmTHF (122.2 nmol/L), Met (8.63 μmol/L), and SAH (0.06 μmol/L). The concentration of each analyte in mouse embryos were as follows: SAM (1.09 μg/g), SAH (0.13 μg/g), Met (16.5 μg/g), 5,10-CH+THF (74.3 ng/g), pABG (20.6 ng/g), and 5-CH3THF (185.4 ng/g). A simple and rapid sample preparation and UHPLC–MS/MS method was developed and validated for the simultaneous determination of the one-carbon-related folate metabolites and one-carbon-related amino acids in different biological samples. The kidney bean is an important cash crop whose growth and yield are severely affected by brown spot disease. Traditional target detection models cannot effectively screen out key features, resulting in model overfitting and weak generalization ability. In this study, a Bi-Directional Feature Pyramid Network (BiFPN) and Squeeze and Excitation (SE) module were added to a YOLOv5 model to improve the multi-scale feature fusion and key feature extraction abilities of the improved model. The results show that the BiFPN and SE modules show higher heat in the target location region and pay less attention to irrelevant environmental information in the non-target region. The detection Precision, Recall, and mean average Precision (mAP@0.5) of the improved YOLOv5 model are 94.7%, 88.2%, and 92.5%, respectively, which are 4.9% higher in Precision, 0.5% higher in Recall, and 25.6% higher in the mean average Precision compared to the original YOLOv5 model. Compared with the YOLOv5-SE, YOLOv5-BiFPN, FasterR-CNN, and EfficientDet models, detection Precision improved by 1.8%, 3.0%, 9.4%, and 9.5%, respectively. Moreover, the rate of missed and wrong detection in the improved YOLOv5 model is only 8.16%. Therefore, the YOLOv5-SE-BiFPN model can more effectively detect the brown spot area of kidney beans. As a C4 warm-season turfgrass, centipedegrass (Eremochloa ophiuroides (Munro) Hack.) is known for its exceptional resilience to intensive maintenance practices. In this research, the most stably expressed reference genes in the leaves of centipedegrass under different stress treatments, including salt, cold, drought, aluminum (Al), and herbicide, were screened by the quantitative real-time PCR (RT-qPCR) technique. The stability of 13 candidate reference genes was evaluated by software GeNorm V3.4, NormFinder V20, BestKeeper V1.0, and ReFinder V1.0. The results of this experiment demonstrated that the expression of the UBC (ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme) remained the most stable under cold and Al stress conditions. On the other hand, the MD (malate dehydrogenase) gene exhibited the best performance in leaf tissues subjected to salt and drought stresses. Under herbicide stress, the expression level of the RIP (60S ribosomal protein L2) gene ranked the highest. The expression levels of abiotic stress-associated genes such as PIP1, PAL, COR413, ALMT9, and BAR were assessed to validate the reliability of the selected reference genes. Acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are life-threatening lung diseases in critically ill patients. The lack of prognostic biomarkers has halted detection methods and effective therapy development. Quantitative biomarker-based approaches in the systemic circulation have been proposed as a means of enhancing diagnostic strategies as well as pharmacotherapy in a patient-specific manner. Pulmonary surfactants are complex mixtures made up of lipids and proteins, which are secreted into the alveolar space by epithelial type II cells under normal and pathological conditions. In this review, we summarize the current knowledge of SP-D in lung injury from both preclinical and clinical studies. Among surfactant proteins, surfactant protein-D (SP-D) has been more widely studied in ALI and ARDS. Recent studies have reported that SP-D has a superior discriminatory ability compared to other lung epithelial proteins for the diagnosis of ARDS, which could reflect the severity of lung injury. Furthermore, we shed light on recombinant SP-D treatment and its benefits as a potential drug for ALI, and we encourage further studies to translate SP-D into clinical use for diagnosis and treatment. Simple Summary: Sexual attractants have emerged as a labor-saving and environmentally friendly technology for green pest control. The Oriental fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis, a global agricultural pest, is often managed using sex attractants such as methyl eugenol as part of green control measures. However, the practical efficacy of these attractants in field applications is often challenged due to the high mating frequency exhibited by male B. dorsalis individuals. In this study, we aimed to investigate the reproductive capacity of B. dorsalis under continuous mating conditions and assess the variations in reproductive ability under different mating conditions. The study highlights the importance of continuous pest control measures due to the pests' strong reproductive ability under interval mating conditions. By comprehending these dynamics, researchers can develop improved strategies for green pest control, thus reducing the reliance on harmful pesticides and ensuring sustainable agricultural practices. These findings have valuable implications for society by promoting environmentally friendly pest management techniques, ultimately benefiting both crop production and the environment. At present, sexual attractants mainly control insect populations by killing males. However, the effect of sex attractants may be limited by the mating ability of the attracted insects. The Oriental fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel), has a strong reproductive capacity; it brings great losses to agricultural production, which can be controlled by methods using sex attractant methyl eugenol that mainly attracts males. Therefore, we studied the multiple and continuous (as well as consecutive) mating ability of B. dorsalis through behavioral experiments. The results show that male B. dorsalis can mate 11 times on average, with females mating only 1.93 times, and that 10.81% of males mate more than 20 times. The reproductive capacity of male B. dorsalis decreased significantly after four to five instances of continuous mating. In different mating patterns, the reproductive fitness of polyandry is not the highest, rather, interval mating is the best. Diaphorina citri, a vector of citrus huanglongbing (HLB) disease, frequently leads to HLB outbreaks and reduces Rutaceae crop production. Recent studies have investigated the effects of RNA interference (RNAi) targeting the Vitellogenin (Vg4) and Vitellogenin receptor (VgR) genes, which are involved in egg formation in this pest, providing a theoretical foundation for developing new strategies to manage D. citri populations. This study presents RNAi methods for Vg4 and VgR gene expression interference and reveals that dsVgR is more effective than dsVg4 against D. citri. We demonstrated that dsVg4 and dsVgR persisted for 3–6 days in Murraya odorifera shoots when delivered via the in-plant system (IPS) and effectively interfered with Vg4 and VgR gene expression. Following Vg4 and VgR gene expression interference, egg length and width in the interference group were significantly smaller than those in the negative control group during the 10–30-day development stages. Additionally, the proportion of mature ovarian eggs in the interference group was significantly lower than that in the negative control group at the 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30-day developmental stages. DsVgR notably suppresses oviposition in D. citri, with fecundity decreasing by 60–70%. The bottom hole fluctuating pressure has a large influence on the wellbore instability. To address this problem, firstly, according to the principle of seepage mechanics, we established a calculation model of the change in pore pressure around the wellbore radius under fluctuating pressure; then, through laboratory rock mechanics test and rock damage mechanics theory analysis, the change law of formation strength under the action of static hydration and dynamic damage are determined; finally, based on the theory of rock mechanics in porous media, a quantitative evaluation method for the risk of wellbore instability under fluctuating pressure is established and the changing pattern of wellbore instability risk is analyzed. The results show that the pore pressure around the well shows a trend of fluctuation increase under fluctuating pressure, and there is a certain lag in the fluctuation of pore pressure inside the formation; the longer the muddy shale is immersed in drilling fluid, the greater the reduction in strength; the reduction is greater in the early stage of immersion, and the reduction in strength in water-based drilling fluid is greater than that in oil-based drilling fluid. At the beginning of the pressure cycle, the formation damage variable and compressive strength gradually increase and decrease with the increase of the pressure cycle number; after several cycles, the magnitude of change gradually decreases with the increase of the cycle number. When the bottom hole pressure fluctuates at a certain period, the greater the fluctuation, the shorter the period of wellbore stability; when the bottom hole pressure fluctuates at a certain range, the smaller the fluctuation period, the faster the borehole enters the high-risk period, while the shortest period of wellbore stability occurs when the fluctuation period is smallest; and when the wave cycle is in the middle, the wellbore stability period is the longest. The red stretcher bacterium Sporidiobolus pararoseus is a high producer of carotenoids such as torularhodin, but its presence in vinegar has not been detected. Moreover, torularhodin has several biological activities, but its effect on the LPS-induced RAW 264.7 inflammatory cell model has also yet to be elucidated. In this study, S. pararoseus was identified in different vinegar samples from China by ITS sequencing. Meanwhile, one of the strains was deeply resolved by whole genome sequencing and functional annotation and named S. pararoseus ZQHL. Subsequently, the antioxidant effect of the fungal carotenoid torularhodin was investigated using in vitro DPPH, ABTS, and cellular models. Finally, LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells were used as an inflammation model to assess torularhodin's protective effect on inflammatory cells and to determine whether the TLR4 pathway is associated with this process. The results indicate that torularhodin has good free radical scavenging ability in vitro and can contribute to cell viability. More importantly, torularhodin alleviated LPS-induced cellular inflammatory damage and reduced the expression of inflammatory factors such as TLR4, MyD88, and TNF-a. The mechanism may attenuate the cellular inflammatory response by inhibiting the TLR4 inflammatory pathway. In conclusion, torularhodin produced by S. pararoseus fungi in vinegar samples significantly scavenged free radicals in vitro and alleviated RAW 264.7 cellular inflammation by modulating the TLR4 pathway. Acute lung injury (ALI) and its severe form, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), represent an acute stage of lung inflammation where the alveolar epithelium loses its functionality. ALI has a devastating impact on the population as it not only has a high rate of incidence, but also has high rates of morbidity and mortality. Due to the involvement of multiple factors, the pathogenesis of ALI is complex and is not fully understood yet. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a group of non-protein-coding transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides. Growing evidence has shown that lncRNAs have a decisive role in the pathogenesis of ALI. LncRNAs can either promote or hinder the development of ALI in various cell types in the lungs. Mechanistically, current studies have found that lncRNAs play crucial roles in the pathogenesis of ALI via the regulation of small RNAs (e.g., microRNAs) or downstream proteins. Undoubtedly, lncRNAs not only have the potential to reveal the underlying mechanisms of ALI pathogenesis but also serve as diagnostic and therapeutic targets for the therapy of ALI. Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. radicis-lycopersici (Forl) is a destructive soil-borne phytopathogenic fungus that causes Fusarium crown and root rot (FCRR) of tomato, leading to considerable field yield losses. In this study, we explored the antifungal capability of linalool, a natural plant volatile organic component, against Forl and its role in controlling FCRR symptoms in tomatoes. Our results showed that Forl mycelial growth was inhibited by the linalool treatment and that the linalool treatment damaged cell membrane integrity, enhanced reactive oxygen species levels, depleted glutathione, and reduced the activities of many antioxidant enzymes in Forl. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses demonstrated that linalool also downregulated metabolic biosynthetic pathways at the transcript and protein levels, including redox, transporter activity, and carbohydrate metabolism in Forl. Moreover, linalool significantly decreased the expression of many Forl pathogenic genes, such as cell wall degrading enzymes (CWDEs) and G proteins, which is likely how a Forl infection was prevented. Importantly, exogenously applied linalool activated the salicylic acid (SA) and jasmonic acid (JA) defensive pathways to improve disease resistance and relieved the negative effects of Forl on plant growth. The main purpose of this study is to reveal the growth mechanism of ice lens in saturated clay. The deformation and fracturing of clay skeletons caused by ice crystal growth during the freezing process are gradually discussed, and a theoretical model for the whole process of ice lens growth considering the surface charge is proposed. Firstly, the electrical properties of clay surfaces and the pore structure characteristics of frozen clay are introduced, and the stress of pore walls during the growth of single pore ice crystals is calculated. Secondly, the values of parameters in the theoretical formula of separation pressure between adjacent clay particles are given when considering the linear elasticity of clay. Finally, the formation mechanism of the new lens is described, and the crack growth velocity equation is given. This paper shows that: there is a good consistency between the soil tensile strength of the macroscopic dimension and the intergranular separation pressure of the molecular dimension in judging the production conditions of the new lens; the formation of the new ice lens is the result of the destruction of the pore structure and the propagation of cracks caused by the growth of ice crystals, and more pore freezing can be caused only when the infiltration path of the ice crystals is formed in the pore structure. In order to verify the model, the ultimate compressive strength of soil calculated in this study was compared with the existing test results, and the rationality and correctness of the model are discussed. Kengyilia is a newly established genus. Most species in this genus survive in hash environment, which might be an indicator of an acquirement of stress resistance genes and the potential for molecular breeding in Triticeae species. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) is a widely used technique with varied sensitivity heavily dependent on the optimal level of the reference genes. K. melanthera is a typical psammophyte species which has high drought resistance. The reference genes of K. melanthera are not yet reported. This study aims to evaluate the expression stability of 14 candidate reference genes (EF1A, GAPDH, ACT1, UBI, TUBB3, TIPRL, CACS, PPP2R1B, TUBA1A, EIF4A1, CYPA3, TCTP, ABCG11L, and FBXO6L) under five treatments (drought, heat, cold, salt, and ABA) and find the most stable and suitable one even upon stressed conditions. The software NormFinder, GeNorm, BestKeeper, and RefFinder were used for data analysis. In general, the genes CACS and PPP2R1B are concluded to have the best overall performance under the various treatments. With the ABA treatment, TCTP and TIPRL show the best stability. CACS and TCTP, as well as TIPRL and CYPA3, were most stable under the treatments of cold and salt, respectively. CACS and FBXO6L were ranked the highest with the heat treatment and drought treatment, respectively. Finally, the Catalase-1 (CAT1) gene was used to verify the reliability of the above reference genes. Accordingly, CAT1's expression pattern remained unchanged after normalization with stable reference genes. The borehole wall stability of depleted reservoirs is a key problem that restricts the deeper potential exploitation of old oilfields. Based on these, according to the seepage and elastic mechanics theory of porous media, combined with laboratory rock mechanics experiments, the dynamic evaluation model of geomechanical parameters of the old reservoir is established, and on this basis, the evaluation method of wellbore stability of new wells in the old reservoir is established, and the changing laws and influencing factors of the wellbore stability of the old reservoir are quantitatively evaluated. The research shows that reservoir pressure, reservoir porosity, effective stress coefficient, strength, in situ magnitude, and direction were all changed due to long-term exploitation; both collapse and fracture pressure decreased, the loss risk of drilling fluid was increased, and safe drilling azimuth was changed. The results can guide reasonable choices such as well position, track and mud density, and strengthening sealing while drilling in order to ensure wellbore stability effectively. Lipid assimilation, storage, and turnover impact growth, development, and virulence in many microbial pathogens including fungi. Perilipins are proteins associated with lipid droplets (LDs) that mediate their assembly and turnover. Here, we characterized the Beauveria bassiana (BbPlin1) perilipin. BbPlin1 expression was higher in minimal media than in rich media, and, using a BbPlin1::eGFP fusion protein, the protein was shown to be co–localized to LDs, with the high expression seen during infection and proliferation within the insect (Galleria mellonella) host that dramatically decreased to almost no expression during fungal outgrowth on cadavers including in conidia, but that BbPlin1 production resumed in the conidia once placed in nutrient–containing media allowing for germination and growth. Characterization of a targeted gene deletion strain (ΔBbPlin1) revealed a dramatic (>30%) reduction in cellular LD content, promotion of aerial hyphal growth, and a small decrease in virulence, with little to no effects on vegetative growth and stress responses. However, in the ΔBbPlin1 strain, expression of the complementary LD–associated caleosin gene, BbCal1, was enhanced under nutrient–poor conditions, although no changes in BbPlin1 expression were seen in a ΔBbCal1 strain and the expression of BbPlin1 in the ΔBbCal1 strain did not change LD patterns in cells. Transcriptome and RT–PCR analyses indicated increased expression of lipid metabolism–related genes, including triacylglyercol lipase 3, enoyl–CoA isomerase, and diacylglycerol–O–acetyl transferase in the BbPlin1 deletion mutant. Lipid profile analyses confirmed that the loss of BbPlin1 significantly reduced the cellular levels of contents of triacylglycerol, diacylglycerol, and phosphatidylethanolamine as compared to the wild–type strain. These results demonstrate the involvement of the B. bassiana perilipin in mediating lipid homeostasis, fungal aerial hyphal growth, and virulence, revealing critical cycling from high expression during nutrient utilization within host cadavers to low expression during growth on the surface of the cadaver during the infection process. The development of rootstocks with a high-quality dwarf-type root system is a popular research topic in the apple industry. However, the precise breeding of rootstocks is still challenging, mainly because the root system is buried deep underground, roots have a complex life cycle, and research on root architecture has progressed slowly. This paper describes ideas for the precise breeding and domestication of wild apple resources and the application of key genes. The primary goal of this research is to combine the existing rootstock resources with molecular breeding and summarize the methods of precision breeding. Here, we reviewed the existing rootstock germplasm, high-quality genome, and genetic resources available to explain how wild resources might be used in modern breeding. In particular, we proposed the 'from genotype to phenotype' theory and summarized the difficulties in future breeding processes. Tetracycline (TC) in the water body poses a huge threat to the ecological environment. There is a great challenge to develop highly efficient, green, low-cost and reusable adsorbents for TC removal from saline water. Herein, metakaolin-based geopolymer microspheres (MM) modified by oleic acid were proposed for the enhanced adsorption of TC from saline water. Experimental and characterization results showed that the introduction of oleic acid into the MM effectively adjusted the specific surface area, pore volume and zeta potential of the MM, thus accelerating the adsorption rate and enhancing the TC adsorption capacity of the MM. The adsorption process fitted well to the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isothermal models. The Langmuir adsorption capacity of TC by the optimal MM, namely MM3 (0.3%, oleic acid), reached 645.7 mg·g−1 at 298 K, which was higher than many reported adsorbents. The adsorption process was endothermic and spontaneous. The MM3 had good adsorption performance of TC from saline water and regeneration performance. Moreover, the breakthrough curves of the MM3 in a column system were correlative with the Thomas and Yoon–Nelson models. The intersection behavior of hydraulic fractures and single natural fractures has been studied in detail; however, in fractured reservoirs, natural fractures are numerous and interlaced and the intersection of hydraulic fractures and multiple natural fractures occurs during the fracturing process. This intersection behavior is more complex and there is a lack of research on this topic at present. In this study, a numerical simulation model of the interaction between hydraulic fractures and a series of natural fractures was established, the main factors that affect the formation scale of a fracture network during the hydraulic fracturing of a fractured reservoir were studied using the numerical simulation method, and the parameters were also studied. The results showed that the natural fracture trend, in situ stress difference, and injection flow rate have an impact on the scale of a fracture network. The larger the in situ stress difference, the smaller the scale of the fracture network, which gradually changes from multiple clusters of fractures to single fractures. The larger the injection flow rate, the larger the scale of the fracture network. In the uniform stress field, the direction of a natural fracture is closer to the direction of principal stress, so the lower the fracture extension pressure, the smaller the scale of the network. On the contrary, the farther away from the principal stress direction, the lower the fracture extension pressure and the higher the extension pressure, the larger the scale of the fracture network. Vegetation phenology in temperate grasslands is highly sensitive to climate change. However, it is still unclear how the timing of vegetation phenology events (especially for autumn phenology) is altered in response to climate change across different grassland types. In this study, we investigated variations of the growing season start (SOS) and end (EOS), derived from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data (2000-2016), for meadow steppe, typical steppe, and desert steppe in the Inner Mongolian grassland of Northern China. Using gridded climate data (2000-2015), we further analyzed correlations between SOS/EOS and pre-season average air temperature and total precipitation (defined as 90-day period prior to SOS/EOS, i.e., pre-SOS/EOS) in each grid. The results showed that both SOS and EOS occurred later in desert steppe (day of year (doy) 114 and 312) than in meadow steppe (doy 109 and 305) and typical steppe (doy 111 and 307); namely, desert steppe has a relatively late growing season than meadow steppe and typical steppe. For all three grasslands, SOS was mainly controlled by pre-SOS precipitation with the sensitivity being largest in desert steppe. EOS was closely connected with pre-EOS air temperature in meadow steppe and typical steppe, but more closely related to pre-EOS precipitation in desert steppe. During 2000-2015, SOS in typical steppe and desert steppe has significantly advanced by 2.2 days and 10.6 days due to a significant increase of pre-SOS precipitation. In addition, EOS of desert steppe has also significantly advanced by 6.8 days, likely as a result from the combined effects of elevated preseason temperature and precipitation. Our study highlights the diverse responses in the timing of spring and autumn phenology to preceding temperature and precipitation in different grassland types. Gram-negative (G-) bacteria are the leading cause of hospital-acquired pneumonia in the United States. The devastating damage caused by G- bacteria results from the imbalance of bactericidal effects and overwhelming inflammation. Despite decades of research, the underlying mechanisms by which runaway inflammation is developed remain incompletely understood. Clara Cell Protein 16 (CC16), also known as uteroglobin, is the major protein secreted by Clara cells and the most abundant protein in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF). However, the regulation and functions of CC16 during G- bacterial infection are unknown. In this study, we aimed to assess the regulation of CC16 in response to Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneu) and to investigate the role of CC16 in bronchial epithelial cells. After K. pneu infection, we found that CC16 mRNA expression was significantly decreased in bronchial epithelial cells. Our data also showed that K. pneu infection upregulated cytokine and chemokine genes, including IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-8 in BEAS-2B cells. Endogenously overexpressed CC16 in BEAS-2B cells provided an anti-inflammatory effect by reducing these markers. We also observed that endogenous CC16 can repress NF-κB reporter activity. In contrast, the recombinant CC16 (rCC16) did not show an anti-inflammatory effect in K. pneu-infected cells or suppression of NF-κB promoter activity. Simple Summary: In this study, a full-length transcriptome was analyzed with single-molecule real-time (SMRT) sequencing, which was first used to discover simple sequence repeat (SSR) genetic markers from B. dorsalis. Moreover, SSR markers from isoforms were screened for the identification of species diversity. These results could provide molecular biology methods for further population research. Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel), as one of the most notorious and destructive invasive agricultural pests in the world, causes damage to over 250 different types of fruits and vegetables throughout tropical and subtropical areas. PacBio single-molecule real-time (SMRT) sequencing was used to generate the full-length transcriptome data of B. dorsalis. A total of 40,319,890 subreads (76.6 Gb, clean reads) were generated, including 535,241 circular consensus sequences (CCSs) and 386,916 full-length non-concatemer reads (FLNCs). Transcript cluster analysis of the FLNC reads revealed 22,780 high-quality reads (HQs). In total, 12,274 transcripts were functionally annotated based on four different databases. A total of 1978 SSR loci were distributed throughout 1714 HQ transcripts, of which 1926 were complete SSRs and 52 were complex SSRs. Among the total SSR loci, 2–3 nucleotide repeats were dominant, occupying 83.62%, of which di- and tri- nucleotide repeats were 39.38% and 44.24%, respectively. We detected 105 repeat motifs, of which AT/AT (50.19%), AC/GT (39.15%), CAA/TTG (32.46%), and ACA/TGT (10.86%) were the most common in di- and tri-nucleotide repeats. The repeat SSR motifs were 12–190 bp in length, and 1638 (88.02%) were shorter than 20 bp. According to the randomly selected microsatellite sequence, 80 pairs of primers were designed, and 174 individuals were randomly amplified by PCR using primers. The number of primers that had amplification products with clear bands and showed good polymorphism came to 41, indicating that this was a feasible way to explore SSR markers from the transcriptomic data of B. dorsalis. These results lay a foundation for developing highly polymorphic microsatellites for researching the functional genomics, population genetic structure, and genetic diversity of B. dorsalis. Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection was first reported in Wuhan, China, and was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 20 March 2020. The respiratory system is the major organ system affected by COVID-19. Numerous studies have found lung abnormalities in patients with COVID-19, including shortness of breath, respiratory failure, and acute respiratory distress syndrome. The identification of lung-specific biomarkers that are easily measurable in serum would be valuable for both clinicians and patients with such conditions. This review is focused on the pneumoproteins and their potential to serve as biomarkers for COVID-19-associated lung injury, including Krebs von den Lungen-6 (KL-6), surfactant proteins (SP-A, SP-B, SP-C, SP-D), and Clara cell secretory protein (CC16). The current findings indicate the aforementioned pneumoproteins may reflect the severity of pulmonary manifestations and could serve as potential biomarkers in COVID-19-related lung injury. As crucial signal transducers, G-proteins and G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) have attracted increasing attention in the field of signal transduction. Research on G-proteins and GPCRs has mainly focused on animals, while research on plants is relatively rare. The mode of action of G-proteins is quite different from that in animals. The G-protein α (Gα) subunit is the most essential member of the G-protein signal cycle in animals and plants. The G-protein is activated when Gα releases GDP and binds to GTP, and the relationships with the GPCR and the downstream signal are also achieved by Gα coupling. It is important to study the role of Gα in the signaling pathway to explore the regulatory mechanism of G-proteins. The existence of a self-activated Gα in plants makes it unnecessary for the canonical GPCR to activate the G-protein by exchanging GDP with GTP. However, putative GPCRs have been found and proven to play important roles in G-protein signal transduction. The unique mode of action of G-proteins and the function of putative GPCRs in plants suggest that the same definition used in animal research cannot be used to study uncanonical GPCRs in plants. This review focuses on the different functions of the Gα and the mode of action between plants and animals as well as the functions of the uncanonical GPCR. This review employs a new perspective to define uncanonical GPCRs in plants and emphasizes the role of uncanonical GPCRs and Gα subunits in plant stress resistance and agricultural production. The host microbiome plays an important role in regulating physiology through microbiota-derived metabolites during host-microbiome interactions. However, molecular mechanism underly host-microbiome interactions remains to be explored. In this study, we used Drosophila as the model to investigate the influence of microbiome and microbiota-derived metabolite sodium butyrate on host transcriptome and metabolome. We established both a sterile Drosophila model and a conventional Drosophila model to demonstrate the role of sodium butyrate. Using multi-omics analysis, we found that microbiome and sodium butyrate could impact host gene expression patterns in both the sterile Drosophila model and the conventional Drosophila model. The analysis of gut microbial using 16S rRNA sequencing showed sodium butyrate treatment also influenced Drosophila bacterial structures. In addition, Drosophila metabolites identified by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-MS/MS were shown to be affected by sodium butyrate treatment with lipids as the dominant changed components. Our integrative analysis of the transcriptome, the microbiome, and the metabolome data identified candidate transcripts that are coregulated by sodium butyrate. Taken together, our results reveal the impact of the microbiome and microbiota-derived sodium butyrate on host transcriptome and metabolome, and our work provides a better understanding of host-microbiome interactions at the molecular level with multi-omics data. Rapid urban expansion has seriously threatened ecological security and the natural environment on a global scale, thus, the simulation of dynamic urban expansion is a hot topic in current research. Existing urban expansion simulation models focus on the mining of spatial neighborhood features among driving factors, however, they ignore the over-fitting, gradient explosion, and vanishing problems caused by the long-term dependence of time series data, which results in limited model accuracy. In this study, we proposed a new dynamic urban expansion simulation model. Considering the long-time dependence issue, long short term memory (LSTM) was employed to automatically extract the transformation rules through memory units and provide the optimal attribute features for cellular automata (CA). This study selected Lanzhou, which is a semi-arid region in Northwest China, as an example to confirm the validity of the model performance using data from 2000 to 2020. The results revealed that the overall accuracy of the model was 91.01%, which was higher than that of the traditional artificial neural network (ANN)-CA and recurrent neural network (RNN)-CA models. The LSTM-CA framework resolved existing problems with the traditional algorithm, while it significantly reduced complexity and improved simulation accuracy. In addition, we predicted urban expansion to 2030 based on natural expansion (NE) and ecological constraint (EC) scenarios, and found that EC was an effective control strategy. This study provides a certain theoretical basis and reference value toward the realization of new urbanization and ecologically sound civil construction, in the context of territorial spatial planning and healthy/sustainable urban development. The enormous library of pharmaceutical compounds presents endless research avenues. However, several factors limit the therapeutic potential of these drugs, such as drug resistance, stability, off-target toxicity, and inadequate delivery to the site of action. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are lipid bilayer-delimited particles and are naturally released from cells. Growing evidence shows that EVs have great potential to serve as effective drug carriers. Since EVs can not only transfer biological information, but also effectively deliver hydrophobic drugs into cells, the application of EVs as a novel drug delivery system has attracted considerable scientific interest. Recently, EVs loaded with siRNA, miRNA, mRNA, CRISPR/Cas9, proteins, or therapeutic drugs show improved delivery efficiency and drug effect. In this review, we summarize the methods used for the cargo loading into EVs, including siRNA, miRNA, mRNA, CRISPR/Cas9, proteins, and therapeutic drugs. Furthermore, we also include the recent advance in engineered EVs for drug delivery. Finally, both advantages and challenges of EVs as a new drug delivery system are discussed. Club cell secretory protein (CC16) is encoded by the SCGB1A1 gene. It is also known as CC10, secretoglobin, or uteroglobin. CC16 is a 16 kDa homodimeric protein secreted primarily by the non-ciliated bronchial epithelial cells, which can be detected in the airways, circulation, sputum, nasal fluid, and urine. The biological activities of CC16 and its pathways have not been completely understood, but many studies suggest that CC16 has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects. The human CC16 gene is located on chromosome 11, p12-q13, where several regulatory genes of allergy and inflammation exist. Studies reveal that factors such as gender, age, obesity, renal function, diurnal variation, and exercise regulate CC16 levels in circulation. Current findings indicate CC16 not only may reflect the pathogenesis of pulmonary diseases, but also could serve as a potential biomarker in several lung diseases and a promising treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). CCN1 (cysteine-rich 61, connective tissue growth factor, and nephroblastoma-1), previously named CYR61 (cysteine-rich angiogenic inducer 61) belongs to the CCN family of matricellular proteins. CCN1 plays critical roles in the regulation of proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, angiogenesis, and fibrosis. Recent studies have extensively characterized the important physiological and pathological roles of CCN1 in various tissues and organs. In this review, we summarize both basic and clinical aspects of CCN1 in pulmonary diseases, including acute lung injury (ALI), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung fibrosis, pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), lung infection, and lung cancer. We also emphasize the important challenges for future investigations to better understand the CCN1 and its role in physiology and pathology, as well as the questions that need to be addressed for the therapeutic development of CCN1 antagonists in various lung diseases. Detailed urban land use information is the prerequisite and foundation for implementing urban land policies and urban land development, and is of great importance for solving urban problems, assisting scientific and rational urban planning. The existing results of urban land use mapping have shortcomings in terms of accuracy or recognition scale, and it is difficult to meet the needs of fine urban management and smart city construction. This study aims to explore approaches that mapping urban land use based on multi-source data, to meet the needs of obtaining detailed land use information and, taking Lanzhou as an example, based on the previous study, we proposed a process of urban land use classification based on multi-source data. A combination road network dataset of Gaode and OpenStreetMap (OSM) was synthetically applied to divide urban parcels, while multi-source features using Sentinel-2A images, Sentinel-1A polarization data, night light data, point of interest (POI) data and other data. Simultaneously, a set of comparative experiments were designed to evaluate the contribution and impact of different features. The results showed that: (1) the combination utilization of Gaode and OSM road network could improve the classification results effectively. Specifically, the overall accuracy and kappa coefficient are 83.75% and 0.77 separately for level I and the accuracy of each type reaches more than 70% for level II; (2) the synthetic application of multi-source features is conducive to the improvement of urban land use classification; (3) Internet data, such as point of interest (POI) information and multi-time population information, contribute the most to urban land use mapping. Compared with single-moment population information, the multi-time population distribution makes more contributions to urban land use. Since other factors (soil properties, topography, etc.) under natural conditions are relatively invariant over one or two decades, climate variables (precipitation and temperature) and human activities are the two fundamental factors driving vegetation changes in global or large-scale areas. However, the combined effects of either single climatic factor and human activities on vegetation changes and the role of human activities itself in a specific region has not been fully discussed. In this study, the Hexi region, a typical dryland consisting of three inland river basins in northwest China was selected as a case area. A new classification framework combining Pearson correlation analysis and residual trend approach was proposed to assess their individual and conjoint contributions of climate variables and human activities in areas of significant vegetation changes. Our results indicated that most of vegetation covered areas in the Hexi region experienced significant changes during the period 2001−2017, and vegetation improvements were widespread except the interior of oases; significant changes in vegetation caused by human activities, precipitation, the interactions of precipitation and human activities, temperature, the interactions of temperature and human activities, the interactions of temperature and precipitation, and the interactions of the three factors accounted for 50.46%, 16.39%, 19.90%, 4.33%, 2.32%, 2.11%, and 4.49% of the total change areas, respectively. Generally, the influence of temperature was relatively weaker than that of precipitation, and the contributions of the interactions of climate variables and human activities on vegetation changes were greater than that of climate contributions alone. Moreover, the results of various investigations, according to the trends and the time of vegetation changes, indicate that decreasing trends of the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) in the Hexi region were chiefly attributed to the adjustments of agricultural planting structure while the comprehensive treatment programs implemented in river basins supported a large proportion of vegetation improvements. A facile in situ polymerization was developed for grafting renewable cardanol onto the carbon fiber (CF) surfaces to strengthen the fiber–matrix interface. CFs were chemically modified with hydroxyl groups by using an aryl diazonium reaction, and then copolymerized in situ with hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene (HCCP) and cardanol to build cardanol-modified fibers (CF-cardanol). The cardanol molecules were successfully introduced, as confirmed using Raman spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS); the cardanol molecules were found to increase the surface roughness, energy, interfacial wettability, and activity with the matrix resin. As a result, the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) of CF-cardanol composites increased from 48.2 to 68.13 MPa. In addition, the anti-hydrothermal ageing properties of the modified composites were significantly increased. The reinforcing mechanisms of the fiber–matrix interface were also studied. A lot of timeseries satellite products have been well documented in exploring changes in ecosystems. However, algorithms allowing for measuring the directions, magnitudes, and timing of vegetation change, evaluating the major driving factors, and eventually predicting the future trends are still insufficient. A novel framework focusing on addressing this problem was proposed in this study according to the temporal trajectory of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) timeseries of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS). It divided the inter-annual changes in vegetation into four patterns: linear, exponential, logarithmic, and logistic. All the three non-linear patterns were differentiated automatically by fitting a logistic function with prolonged NDVI timeseries. Finally, features of vegetation changes including where, when and how, were evaluated by the parameters in the logistic function. Our results showed that 87.39% of vegetation covered areas (maximum mean growing season NDVI in the 17 years not less than 0.2) in the Shiyng River basin experienced significant changes during 2001–2017. The linear pattern, exponential pattern, logarithmic pattern, and logistic pattern accounted for 36.53%, 20.16%, 15.42%, and 15.27%, respectively. Increasing trends were dominant in all the patterns. The spatial distribution in both the patterns and the transition years at which vegetation gains/losses began or ended is of high consistency. The main years of transition for the exponential increasing pattern, the logarithmic increasing pattern, and the logarithmic increasing pattern were 2008–2011, 2003–2004, and 2009–2010, respectively. The development of cities in the vertical dimension is important in valley-type cities where physical growth is limited by terrain. However, little research has focused on three-dimensional urban expansion of valley-type cities. Lanzhou is a typical valley-type city in China and Chengguan District is the core area of Lanzhou City. This research is aimed at understanding the development of valley-type cities through the analysis of the three-dimensional urban expansion of Lanzhou Chengguan District and providing a reference for urban planning. We extracted five periods of architectural contours and height information between 1975 to 2018 with the support of multi-source remote sensing and network data. We used overlay analysis and mathematical statistical methods to analyze urban horizontal expansion and used the building density, floor area ratio, vertical expansion speed, fluctuation degree, and skyline to analyze urban vertical expansion. We found that the mode of horizontal expansion of Chengguan District shifted from adjacency to enclave through mountain area reclamation. The area with the fastest vertical expansion speed first appeared in the horizontal expansion completed area, and then in both the rapid horizontal expansion area and in the horizontal expansion completed area. Before 2007, the speed of horizontal expansion increased and reached its peak while the vertical expansion speed was relatively stable. After that, the former decreased, and the vertical expansion increased rapidly and dominated the urban development. The vertical expansion of the valley-type city gradually dominates urban development. Urban planning should consider the three-dimensional expansion, especially in the vertical dimension. In the present research, to enhance interfacial wettability and adhesion between carbon fibers (CFs) and matrix resin, hydrophilic silica nanoparticles (SiO2) were utilized to graft the surface of CFs. Polydopamine (PDA) as a "bio-glue" was architecturally built between SiO2 and CFs to obtain a strong adhesion strength and homogenous SiO2 distribution onto the surface of CFs. The facile modification strategy was designed by self-polymerization of dopamine followed by the hydrolysis of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) onto carbon fibers. Surface microstructures and interfacial properties of CFs, before and after modification, were systematically investigated. The tight and homogeneous coverage of SiO2 layers onto the CF surface, with the assistance of a PDA layer by self-polymerization of dopamine, significantly enhanced fiber surface roughness and wettability, resulting in an obvious improvement of mechanical interlocking and interfacial interactions between CFs and matrix resin. The interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) and the interfacial shear strength (IFSS) of CF/PDA/SiO2 reinforced composites exhibited 57.28% and 41.84% enhancements compared with those of untreated composites. In addition, impact strength and the hydrothermal aging resistance of the resulting composites showed great improvements after modification. The possible reinforcing mechanisms during the modification process have been discussed. Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. radicis-lycopersici ( Forl ) is a destructive soil-borne phytopathogenic fungus that causes Fusarium crown and root rot (FCRR) of tomato, leading to considerable field yield losses. In this study, we explored the antifungal capability of linalool, a natural plant volatile organic component, against Forl and its role in controlling FCRR symptoms in tomatoes. Our results showed that Forl mycelial growth was inhibited by the linalool treatment and that the linalool treatment damaged cell membrane integrity, enhanced reactive oxygen species levels, depleted glutathione, and reduced the activities of many antioxidant enzymes in Forl . Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses demonstrated that linalool also downregulated metabolic biosynthetic pathways at the transcript and protein levels, including redox, transporter activity, and carbohydrate metabolism in Forl . Moreover, linalool significantly decreased the expression of many Forl pathogenic genes, such as cell wall degrading enzymes (CWDEs) and G proteins, which is likely how a Forl infection was prevented. Importantly, exogenously applied linalool activated the salicylic acid (SA) and jasmonic acid (JA) defensive pathways to improve disease resistance and relieved the negative effects of Forl on plant growth. Taken together, we report that linalool is an effective fungicide against Forl and will be a promising green chemical agent for controlling FCRR.

A facile in situ polymerization was developed for grafting renewable cardanol onto the carbon fiber (CF) surfaces to strengthen the fiber-matrix interface. CFs were chemically modified with hydroxyl groups by using an aryl diazonium reaction, and then copolymerized in situ with hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene (HCCP) and cardanol to build cardanol-modified fibers (CF-cardanol). The cardanol molecules were successfully introduced, as confirmed using Raman spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS); the cardanol molecules were found to increase the surface roughness, energy, interfacial wettability, and activity with the matrix resin. As a result, the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) of CF-cardanol composites increased from 48.2 to 68.13 MPa. In addition, the anti-hydrothermal ageing properties of the modified composites were significantly increased. The reinforcing mechanisms of the fiber-matrix interface were also studied.

The fall webworm, Hyphantria cunea (Drury) is a major invasive pest in China. Aminopeptidase N (APN) isoforms in lepidopteran larvae midguts are known for their involvement in the mode of action of insecticidal crystal (Cry) proteins from Bacillus thuringiensis . In the present work, we identified a putative Cry1Ab toxin-binding protein, an APN isoform designated HcAPN3, in the midgut of H. cunea by ligand blot and mass spectrometry. HcAPN3 was highly expressed throughout all larval developmental stages and was abundant in the midgut and hindgut tissues. HcAPN3 was down-regulated at 6 h, then was up-regulated significantly at 12 h and 24 h after Cry1Ab toxin treatment. We expressed HcAPN3 in insect cells and detected its interaction with Cry1Ab toxin by ligand blot assays. Furthermore, RNA interference (RNAi) against HcAPN3 using oral delivery and injection of double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) resulted in a 61-66% decrease in transcript level. Down-regulating of the expression of HcAPN3 was closely associated with reduced susceptibility of H. cunea to Cry1Ab. In addition, the HcAPN3E fragment peptide expressed in Escherichia coli enhanced Cry1Ab toxicity against H. cunea larvae. The sequence-structure-function paradigm of proteins has been changed by the occurrence of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs). Benefiting from the structural disorder, IDPs are of particular importance in biological processes like regulation and signaling. IDPs are associated with human diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative diseases, amyloidoses, and several other maladies. IDPs attract a high level of interest and a substantial effort has been made to develop experimental and computational methods. So far, more than 70 prediction tools have been developed since 1997, within which 17 predictors were created in the last five years. Here, we presented an overview of IDPs predictors developed during 2010-2014. We analyzed the algorithms used for IDPs prediction by these tools and we also discussed the basic concept of various prediction methods for IDPs. The comparison of prediction performance among these tools is discussed as well.
