A synthetic flocculant of aluminum (Al) and iron (Fe) extracted from red mud (RM) has been widely used in sewage treatment, while the remaining RM residue has been ignored. This study aimed to synthesize polymeric aluminum ferric sulfate (PAFS) flocculant from RM by acid leaching and then use the acidified RM residue to produce an acid RM-based ceramsite (ARMC) by mixing bentonite, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, and starch. Our results showed that sintering, reaction temperature, H2SO4 concentration, reaction time, and liquid-to-solid ratio had an obvious effect on the leaching of Al and Fe in RM, which was a necessary prerequisite for the efficient PAFS flocculants. At a PAFS dosage of 60 mg/L, turbidity and phosphate removal rates were 95.21 ± 0.64% and 89.17 ± 0.52%, respectively. When the pH value was 8.0, the turbidity and phosphate removal efficiency were 99.22 ± 0.66% and 95.98 ± 1.63%, respectively. Considering the adsorption capacity and mechanical properties, the best conditions for ARMC production included using 60% ARM and ceramsite calcination at 600 °C, with the BET surface area 56.16 m2/g and a pore volume of 0.167 cm3/g. Thermogravimetric analysis indicated that 400 °C was a reasonable preheating temperature to enhance the ARMC mechanical strength, as this temperature allows the removal of surface-adsorbed and constituent water. Under a scanning electron microscope, the ARMC appeared rough before adsorption, while relatively uniform pores occupied it after adsorption. Our conclusion will help to improve the zero-waste strategy of RM and speed up the industrial production of RM in flocculants as well as utilizing ARMC as a new type of adsorbent for phosphorus adsorption in sewage treatment. Silicon nanowire field effect (SiNW-FET) biosensors have been successfully used in the detection of nucleic acids, proteins and other molecules owing to their advantages of ultra-high sensitivity, high specificity, and label-free and immediate response. However, the presence of the Debye shielding effect in semiconductor devices severely reduces their detection sensitivity. In this paper, a three-dimensional stacked silicon nanosheet FET (3D-SiNS-FET) biosensor was studied for the high-sensitivity detection of nucleic acids. Based on the mainstream Gate-All-Around (GAA) fenestration process, a three-dimensional stacked structure with an 8 nm cavity spacing was designed and prepared, allowing modification of probe molecules within the stacked cavities. Furthermore, the advantage of the three-dimensional space can realize the upper and lower complementary detection, which can overcome the Debye shielding effect and realize high-sensitivity Point of Care Testing (POCT) at high ionic strength. The experimental results show that the minimum detection limit for 12-base DNA (4 nM) at 1 × PBS is less than 10 zM, and at a high concentration of 1 µM DNA, the sensitivity of the 3D-SiNS-FET is approximately 10 times higher than that of the planar devices. Water efficiency labeling, an environmental protection label, can provide consumers with products' water-saving information, guide consumers to choose high-efficiency water-saving products, and encourage residents to save water. Data were obtained from a questionnaire survey among 526 respondents in Zhengzhou, China. The study constructed a Hidden Markov Model (HMM) to predict consumers' adoption behavior of products with water efficiency labeling. The adoption probability of consumers at different perceptions and water-saving awareness for products with water efficiency labeling and the state transition probability of consumers' adoption behavior of products with water efficiency labeling were calculated. Consumers' adoption behavior of products with water efficiency labeling in different situations is predicted. The research found: (1) When the degree of perception remains unchanged, the improvement of consumers' water-saving awareness will promote their adoption of products with water efficiency labeling and increase the probability of continuous adoption behavior. (2) The state of consumers' adoption behavior depends on the last adoption behavior. Furthermore, as the state level increases, the dependency on adoption behavior becomes more vigorous. (3) HMM is suitable for predicting consumers' adoption behavior of products with water efficiency labeling and has high accuracy. The research findings can provide a theoretical basis and decision-making reference for the government and enterprises to formulate relevant guiding policies and promotion strategies. Persistent high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is responsible for most genital, anal, and oropharyngeal cancers, in which men contribute significantly to infection and subsequent tumorigenesis in women. Vitamin E has been shown to be associated with vaginal HPV infection and cervical cancer. However, the association of vitamin E consumption with HPV infection among the overall population remains unclear. We investigate the association between vitamin E consumption and genital and oral HPV infection in both men and women. We used cross-sectional data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 2013 and 2016 to collect details on their dietary vitamin E intake, genital and oral HPV infection status, and other essential variables. In total, 5809 participants aged 18–59 years were identified, with overall prevalence of high-risk and low-risk HPV infection of 23.7% and 21.1%, respectively. Compared with the lowest vitamin E group Q1 (<5.18 mg/day), the adjusted OR for vitamin E consumption and overall high-risk HPV infection in Q2 (5.18–7.54 mg/day), Q3 (7.55–10.82 mg/day), and Q4 (>10.82 mg/day) were 0.91 (95% CI: 0.81–1.03, p = 0.134), 0.77 (95% CI: 0.69–0.87, p < 0.001), and 0.72 (95% CI: 0.65–0.80, p < 0.001), respectively. Restricted cubic spline regression showed a linear relationship between vitamin E consumption and overall high-risk HPV infection. This linear relationship also existed for vitamin E consumption and overall low-risk HPV infection. After being stratified by gender and site, vitamin E consumption was inversely related to vaginal low- and high-risk HPV infection, penile high-risk HPV infection, and male oral low-risk HPV infection. In conclusion, we identified inverse linear relationships between dietary vitamin E intake and overall high- and low-risk HPV infection. Myofibroblasts are the principal effector cells driving fibrosis, and their accumulation in tissues is a fundamental feature of fibrosis. Essential pathways have been identified as being central to promoting myofibroblast differentiation, revealing multiple targets for intervention. Compared with large proteins and antibodies, peptide-based therapies have transpired to serve as biocompatible and cost-effective solutions to exert biomimicry, agonistic, and antagonistic activities with a high degree of targeting specificity and selectivity. In this review, we summarize emergent antifibrotic peptides and their utilization for the targeted prevention of myofibroblasts. We then highlight recent studies on peptide inhibitors of upstream pathogenic processes that drive the formation of profibrotic cell phenotypes. We also briefly discuss peptides from non-mammalian origins that show promise as antifibrotic therapeutics. Interfacial stress between layers of thermal barrier coatings near free edges is a critical factor that may cause turbine blades to fail. This paper uses simulation methods to reveal the effects of variations in geometric and material parameters on the stress of thermal barrier coatings. The stress distributions of a disk-shaped coating–substrate system undergoing thermal mismatch are calculated by an analytical method and the finite element method. The analytical solution reveals that the coefficient of thermal expansion, elasticity modulus, Poisson's ratio, and thickness of each layer affect interfacial stress between coatings and substrate. The simulation results exhibit significant concentrations of the normal and shear stresses, which make the coating system prone to cracking and spalling from the free edge. The parametric analysis highlights that the thermal mismatch strain affects the stress magnitude. The region affected by free edges becomes larger with increasing thickness, elasticity modulus, and Poisson's ratio of the topcoat. Finally, two integral parameters are proposed to represent the stress state near the free edge related to mode I and II fracture, respectively. Creep tests were conducted on DZ411 material at 930 °C and 850 °C, and creep curves were recorded and employed in normalization creep model building. A yield function suitable for directional solidification nickel-based materials was proposed in an ascending-order approach. Combined with the normalized creep model and the proposed function, a creep subroutine was compiled to simulate the creep deformation behavior of a turbine blade. The typical boundary conditions of the blade were determined and used for finite element analysis. According to the analysis results, the assessment positions for the actual application of a turbine blade were determined and checked for endurance intensity. The phenomenon of deviation angle between crystal axis and blade height direction in actual casting was further analyzed. Multiple angles and directional deviation angles were simulated for 10,000 h creep deformation. Considering the difficulties and challenges of the complex geometric structures of blades, it is necessary to conduct creep tests of DZ411 material and a simulation analysis of a real blade. Based on the above analysis and discussion, the present work sheds light on finite element analysis and has great potential for structural analyses in the engineering applications of complex high-temperature structures. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a frequently occurring severe disease with high mortality. Cystatin C (Cys-C), as a biomarker of early kidney failure, can be used to detect and prevent acute renal injury. In this paper, a biosensor based on a silicon nanowire field-effect transistor (SiNW FET) was studied for the quantitative detection of Cys-C. Based on the spacer image transfer (SIT) processes and channel doping optimization for higher sensitivity, a wafer-scale, highly controllable SiNW FET was designed and fabricated with a 13.5 nm SiNW. In order to improve the specificity, Cys-C antibodies were modified on the oxide layer of the SiNW surface by oxygen plasma treatment and silanization. Furthermore, a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microchannel was involved in improving the effectiveness and stability of detection. The experimental results show that the SiNW FET sensors realize the lower limit of detection (LOD) of 0.25 ag/mL and have a good linear correlation in the range of Cys-C concentration from 1 ag/mL to 10 pg/mL, exhibiting its great potential in the future real-time application. Diversified noise sources pose great challenges in the engineering of an ANC (active noise control) system design. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an ANC method based on VMD (variational mode decomposition) and Ensemble Learning. VMD is used to extract IMFs (Intrinsic Model Functions) of different types of noise and obtain the approximate entropy of each IMF. Clustering analysis on the output of VMD is conducted based on the PCA (principal component analysis) dimension reduction method and k-means++ method to get classification results for different noises. On the basis of the clustering results, different GBDT (gradient boosting decision tree) regressors are constructed for different noise types, in order to create a high-performance ANC system for multiple noise sources. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, this paper designed four simulation schemes for the ANC: obstacle-free rectangular enclosed space, rectangular enclosed space with obstacle, obstacle-free trapezoidal enclosed space and trapezoidal enclosed space with obstacle. When machine gun noise is used as an example, noise attenuation by the proposed method in four simulation schemes is −23.27 dB, −21.6 dB, −19.08 dB and −15.48 dB respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, artificial neural networks have been widely used in the fault diagnosis of rolling bearings. To realize real-time diagnosis with high accuracy of the fault of a rolling bearing, in this paper, a bearing fault diagnosis model was designed based on the combination of VMD and ANN, which ensures a higher fault prediction accuracy with less computational time. This paper works from two aspects, including fault feature extraction and neural network structural parameter optimization to obtain an ANN bearing fault diagnosis model with high performance. The raw vibration signals of 10 fault types were divided into training, verification and testing datasets by the random step increment slip method. The variational mode decomposition method was used to decompose the raw vibration signal into several intrinsic mode functions. A new definition of the energy of each intrinsic mode function based on discrete Fourier transform and information entropy method were used as the input for the artificial neural network. Furthermore, the structural parameters of the artificial neural network were designed to obtain a high-performance neural network. The artificial neural network used in this paper had three hidden layers and 13 neurons in each hidden layer. Compared with several machine and deep learning algorithms, the artificial neural network can better fulfill the classification task of rolling bearing fault types with a mean prediction accuracy of 99.3% and computation time of 2.4 s based on a small training dataset. Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic recurrent inflammatory illness of the gastrointestinal system. The purpose of this study was to explore the alleviating effect of vitamin K2 (VK2) on UC, as well as its mechanism. C57BL/6J mice were given 3% DSS for seven days to establish UC, and they then received VK2 (15, 30, or 60 mg/kg·bw) and 5-aminosalicylic acid (100 mg/kg·bw) for two weeks. We recorded the clinical signs, body weights, colon lengths, and histological changes during the experiment. We detected the inflammatory factor expressions using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits, and we detected the tight junction proteins using Western blotting. We analyzed the intestinal microbiota alterations and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) using 16S rRNA sequencing and targeted metabolomics. According to the results, VK2 restored the colon lengths, improved the colonic histopathology, reduced the levels of proinflammatory cytokines (such as IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-6), and boosted the level of the immunosuppressive cytokine IL-10 in the colon tissues of the colitis mice. Moreover, VK2 promoted the expression of mucin and tight junction proteins (such as occludin and zonula occludens-1) in order to preserve the intestinal mucosal barrier function and prevent UC in mice. Additionally, after the VK2 intervention, the SCFAs and SCFA-producing genera, such as Eubacterium_ruminantium_group and Faecalibaculum, were elevated in the colon. In conclusion, VK2 alleviated the DSS-induced colitis in the mice, perhaps by boosting the dominant intestinal microflora, such as Faecalibaculum, by reducing intestinal microflora dysbiosis, and by modulating the expression of SCFAs, inflammatory factors, and intestinal barrier proteins. Biomass conversion and expansion factors (BCEFs) are widely utilized in national and regional biomass estimates and greenhouse gas reporting, as they can be used to directly transform the stocking volume into biomass. In this study, the power function was used as the basic model form with biotic variables, and abiotic variables were considered to improve the fitting results. Then, the random effects parameters were also introduced into the models to describe the variation of BCEFs among different forest management units. Random sampling strategies were applied to calibrate the random effects. The results showed that the stocking volume exhibited a negative proportional relationship in the stem BCEF (BCEFst), the root BCEF (BCEFro) and the total tree BCEF (BCEFto) models, and the quadratic mean diameter exhibited a positive proportional relationship in the branch BCEF (BCEFbr) and the foliage BCEF (BCEFfol) models. In addition, the fitting effect of generalized models with abiotic predictors was superior to that of the basic models. Considering the effects of abiotic variables on the BCEFs of each component, the results showed that BCEFst and BCEFto decreased as the mean annual precipitation increased; BCEFbr increased as the annual temperature increased; BCEFfol gradually decreased as the elevation increased; and BCEFro first increased with increasing mean annual temperature and then declined. In conclusion, abiotic factors explained the variation in BCEFs for the biomass components of the natural white birch forest. Although the fitting effect of generalized models with abiotic predictors was superior to that of the basic models, the mixed-effects model was preferable for modeling the BCEFs of each component. In addition, the prediction precision of the mixed-effects models enhanced gradually with increasing sample size, and the selection of eight plots for calibration and prediction based on the mixed-effects model was the best sampling strategy in this study of a natural white birch forest. The tubed vortex reducer in the axial compressor can destroy the vortex in the disk cavity, by a thin-walled tube, to reduce the total pressure loss. The tube may suffer from vibration problems, such as flutter and forced vibration, which are closely related to aerodynamic damping. In this paper, the energy method and the influence coefficient method are used to study the aerodynamic damping of the tube. Based on the modal characteristics, steady and unsteady flow characteristics of the tube, the first and second modes with lower frequencies and greater vibration risk are selected as the analysis objects. The energy method is used to calculate the aerodynamic damping of the tube with different amplitudes, which shows that the results approximately meet the linear assumption and are accurate. The results obtained by the influence coefficient method show that the aerodynamic influence between adjacent tubes is very small, and the effect of inter-tube phase angle on the aerodynamic damping can be ignored. Finally, it is found that the effect of structural coupling caused by the support ring on the aerodynamic damping of the tube is mainly reflected in two aspects: frequency reduction and tube mode coupling. Seed germination is a critical stage during the life cycle of plants. It is well known that germination is regulated by a series of internal and external factors, especially plant hormones. In Arabidopsis, many germination-related factors have been identified, while in rice, the important crop and monocot model species and the further molecular mechanisms and regulatory networks controlling germination still need to be elucidated. Hormonal signals, especially those of abscisic acid (ABA) and gibberellin (GA), play a dominant role in determining whether a seed germinates or not. The balance between the content and sensitivity of these two hormones is the key to the regulation of germination. In this review, we present the foundational knowledge of ABA and GA pathways obtained from germination research in Arabidopsis. Then, we highlight the current advances in the identification of the regulatory genes involved in ABA- or GA-mediated germination in rice. Furthermore, other plant hormones regulate seed germination, most likely by participating in the ABA or GA pathways. Finally, the results from some regulatory layers, including transcription factors, post-transcriptional regulations, and reactive oxygen species, are also discussed. The filtered-x recursive least square (FxRLS) algorithm is widely used in the active noise control system and has achieved great success in some complex de-noising environments, such as the cabin in vehicles and aircraft. However, its performance is sensitive to some user-defined parameters such as the forgetting factor and initial gain. Once these parameters are not selected properly, the de-noising effect of FxRLS will deteriorate. Moreover, the tracking performance of FxRLS for mutation is still restricted to a certain extent. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes a new proportional FxRLS (PFxRLS) algorithm. The forgetting factor and initial gain sensitivity are successfully reduced without introducing new turning parameters. The de-noising level and tracking performance have also been improved. Moreover, the momentum technique is introduced in PFxRLS to further improve its robustness and de-noising level. To ensure stability, its convergence condition is also discussed in this paper. An increasing demand for new and improved livestock forage products is driving the development of forage systems in arid regions. Our study evaluated the productivity of 10 alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) varieties and the relationship between forage yield and canopy structure traits, such as plant height, branch number, stem/leaf ratio, and leaf area index in the arid Hexi Corridor, north-west China. Here, plant height, primary branch number per plant, and stem/leaf ratio were positively correlated with forage yield. In terms of a two-year total yield, Gannong No. 5 produced the highest value (13,923 kg ha−1), followed by the WL342HQ (12,409 kg ha−1), Phabulous (11,928 kg ha−1), and Xinjiang Daye (11,416 kg ha−1) varieties. Therefore, these four alfalfa varieties are suitable for large-scale cultivation in the Hexi Corridor region and other arid areas where the effect of precipitation is even larger than that of temperature. These results provide valuable information for the selection and cultivation of alfalfa varieties, which could improve forage yield and the production of livestock in arid regions. Featured Application: Particle dampers have broad application prospects in aerospace equipment and buildings. Particle damping (PD) is a passive mean of vibration control in which small metallic or ceramic particles are placed inside a cavity that attached to the primary structure at the place of high vibration amplitudes. The kinetic energy of the primary structure is dissipated by non-elastic impact and friction between particles and walls. This paper represents a series of experimental investigations of the effects of multi-unit particle dampers (MUPD) attached to a bracket structure under harmonic excitation and random excitation. As a platform to investigate the particle damping characteristics under extreme acceleration environments, the bracket structure was featured by an extremely high response on the top, and its maximum acceleration exceeds 50 times gravity acceleration when the bracket structure was subjected to resonance. This broad range of acceleration conditions was far beyond the scope concerned in most previous work. The experimental results show that for a small weight penalty (no more than 8.8%), multi-unit particle damper can reduce the resonance of the primary structure by more than 50%, whether under sinusoidal excitation or random excitation. And the response of the primary structure depends on the type of cavities and filled coefficient. Layering the cavity in the direction of the main vibration can improve the damping capacity of the multi-unit particle damper. Elymus nutans and Elymus sibiricus are two important perennial forage grasses of the genus Elymus, widely distributed in high altitude regions of Western and Northern China, especially on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. Information on phenotypic and genetic diversity is limited, but necessary for Elymus germplasm collection, conservation, and utilization. In the present study, the phenotypic and genetic differentiation of 73 accessions of the two species were evaluated using 15 phenotypic traits and 40 expressed sequence tag derived simple sequence repeat markers (EST-SSRs). The results showed that only 7.23% phenotypic differentiation (Pst) existed between the two Elymus species based on fifteen quantitative traits. Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed that leaf traits, spike traits, and some seed traits were dominant factors in phenotypic variation. Moreover, 396 (97.8%) and 331 (87.1%) polymorphic bands were generated from 40 EST-SSR primers, suggesting high levels of genetic diversity for the two species. The highest genetic diversity was found in the Northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau groups. Clustering analysis based on molecular data showed that most accessions of each Elymus species tended to group together. Similar results were described by principal coordinates analysis (PCoA) and structure analysis. The molecular variance analysis (AMOVA) revealed that 81.47% and 89.32% variation existed within the geographical groups for the two species, respectively. Pearson's correlation analyses showed a strong positive correlation between Nei's genetic diversity and annual mean temperature. Rotating parts of aeroengines need to have a high speed margin according to the civil aviation airworthiness regulations. Previous studies on burst speed are based on mechanical properties of standard specimens. In this paper, a new method for predicting burst speed by means of a tensile test of a simulative specimen is proposed, and the predicted results are compared with the traditional method. The results show that the stress gradient of the designed simulative specimen and the assessment location of vortex reducer are in good agreement, which indicates that they have similar stress characteristics. The burst speed predicted by the new method is greater than the traditional method. Both prediction methods can provide a reference for such a structure in the design stage. Resonant response of turbomachinery blades can lead to high cycle fatigue (HCF) if the vibration amplitudes are significant. Therefore, the dangerousness assessment of the resonance crossing is important. It requires accurate predictions of the aerodynamic excitation, damping, and response, which will consume immense computational costs. The novel aspect of this study is the development of an efficient approach, which incorporates the time transformation (TT) method to predict the aerodynamic excitations and the harmonic forced response method to obtain the response levels. The efficiency and accuracy of this method were evaluated by comparing with traditional methods for the resonance crossing excited by upstream wake in a 1.5 multistage compressor. For the aerodynamic excitation, discrepancies of ±2% at the mean pressure and ±25% at the harmonic pressure in most areas expect for the blade root were observed, but the calculation time required by the TT method was only 5% of that by the time-marching method. Moreover, response levels with the same aerodynamic forces were compared between the harmonic forced-response and transient dynamic methods. Small differences in the displacement and stress variables were observed; the relative deviation was smaller than 2% with only 1% computing time compared with the transient method, indicating the high accuracy and efficiency of the efficient approach. The blisks and labyrinth seals in gas turbine engines are typical rotating periodic structures. Vibration problems will inevitably occur during the operation, which can easily lead to High Cycle Fatigue failure of the structure. Adding ring damper is an effective means of structural vibration reduction. The damper uses the dry friction of the contact surface to dissipate the vibration energy, improve the damping of the system, and then reduce the vibration response of the structure. The structures have a nodal diameter and modal shape, and the forced vibration often presents the characteristics of traveling wave. In this paper, an evaluation method for dry friction damping of ring damper under the axial component of traveling wave vibration is established. For the given vibration stress at the critical location, the equivalent damping ratio provided by the ring damper is calculated based on the friction energy dissipation and the damping characteristic curve that is the equivalent damping ratio varying with the vibration stress is obtained. This method can avoid calculating the nonlinear dry friction forced response and is suitable for the design stage. The damping of split ring dampers with rectangular section for one blisk and labyrinth seal is analyzed in this paper. It is shown that rotating speed, friction coefficient, section area and material density significantly influence the damping characteristics. By reactive DC magnetron sputtering from a pure Ta target onto silicon substrates, Ta(N) films were prepared with different N2 flow rates of 0, 12, 17, 25, 38, and 58 sccm. The effects of N2 flow rate on the electrical properties, crystal structure, elemental composition, and optical properties of Ta(N) were studied. These properties were characterized by the four-probe method, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE). Results show that the deposition rate decreases with an increase of N2 flows. Furthermore, as resistivity increases, the crystal size decreases, the crystal structure transitions from β-Ta to TaN(111), and finally becomes the N-rich phase Ta3N5(130, 040). Studying the optical properties, it is found that there are differences in the refractive index (n) and extinction coefficient (k) of Ta(N) with different thicknesses and different N2 flow rates, depending on the crystal size and crystal phase structure. Organosilicate glass (OSG)-based porous low dielectric constant (low-k) films with different molar ratios of 1,3,5-tris(triethoxysilyl)benzene to 1,3-bis(triethoxysilyl)benzene bridging organic groups (1:3 and 1:7) were spin-on deposited, followed by a soft bake in air and N2 at 150 °C and hard bake in air and N2 at 400 °C. Non-ionic template (Brij®30) concentrations were varied from 0 to 41 wt% to control the porosity of the films. The chemical composition of the matrix of the films was evaluated and discussed with the shrinkage of the film during the curing, refractive indices, mechanical properties, k-values, porosity and pore structure. The chemical composition of the film cured in both air and N2-containing ambient were evaluated and compared. The benzene bridging groups containing films change their porosity (0 to 43%) but keep the pore size constant and equal to 0.81 nm when porosity is lower than 30%. The k-value decreases with increasing porosity, as expected. The films containing benzene bridge have higher a Young's modulus than plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) methyl-terminated low-k films with the same porosity and show good hydrophobic properties after a hard bake and close to the values reported for 1,4-benzene-bridged films. The fabricated films show good stability after a long time of storage. However, the improvement of mechanical properties was lower than the values predicted by the published literature data. It was concluded that the concentration of 1,3,5-benzene bridges was below the stiffness threshold required for significant improvement of the mechanical properties. The films show UV-induced luminescence with a photon energy of 3.6 to 4.3 eV. The luminescence is related to the presence of oxygen-deficient-type defects or their combination with organic residues. The most intensive luminescence is observed in as-deposited and soft bake samples, then the intensity is reduced after a hard bake. It is assumed that the oxygen-deficient centers form because of the presence of Si–OC2H5 groups in the films and the concentration of these centers reduces when all these groups completely transformed into siloxane (Si–O–Si). The interface passivation of the HfO2/Si0.7Ge0.3 stack is systematically investigated based on low-temperature ozone oxidation and Si-cap methods. Compared with the Al2O3/Si0.7Ge0.3 stack, the dispersive feature and interface state density (Dit) of the HfO2/Si0.7Ge0.3 stack MOS (Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor) capacitor under ozone direct oxidation (pre-O sample) increases obviously. This is because the tiny amounts of GeOx in the formed interlayer (IL) oxide layer are more likely to diffuse into HfO2 and cause the HfO2/Si0.7Ge0.3 interface to deteriorate. Moreover, a post-HfO2-deposition (post-O) ozone indirect oxidation is proposed for the HfO2/Si0.7Ge0.3 stack; it is found that compared with pre-O sample, the Dit of the post-O sample decreases by about 50% due to less GeOx available in the IL layer. This is because the amount of oxygen atoms reaching the interface of HfO2/Si0.7Ge0.3 decreases and the thickness of IL in the post-O sample also decreases. To further reduce the Dit of the HfO2/Si0.7Ge0.3 interface, a Si-cap passivation with the optimal thickness of 1 nm is developed and an excellent HfO2/Si0.7Ge0.3 interface with Dit of 1.53 × 1011 eV−1cm−2 @ E−Ev = 0.36 eV is attained. After detailed analysis of the chemical structure of the HfO2/IL/Si-cap/Si0.7Ge0.3 using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), it is confirmed that the excellent HfO2/Si0.7Ge0.3 interface is realized by preventing the formation of Hf-silicate/Hf-germanate and Si oxide originating from the reaction between HfO2 and Si0.7Ge0.3 substrate. In turbomachinery bladed disks are typical cyclic symmetric structures where high-cycle fatigue of the blades can easily occur. Increasing the shroud structure is an effective blade vibration reduction method using the dry friction of the shroud contact surface to dissipate vibration energy. During one vibration cycle of the blade, the contact surface of the shroud may have one or several states of stick, slip, and separation due to the different amplitude of blade, which affects not only the damping, but also the stiffness of the system. This paper proposes a method to analyze the damping characteristics of blades with shroud considering the change of equivalent contact stiffness of the shroud by using the finite element method. With a 2D contact model, this method calculates the equivalent damping and obtains the damping characteristic curve to evaluate the damping of shroud. During the design phase, the objective is that when resonance occurs, the shroud can provide the optimal damping ratio under the allowable vibration stress of the blade. The parameter sensitivity of the damping characteristic for one bladed disk with parallel shroud is investigated. Irrigation and nitrogen (N) are two crucial factors affecting perennial grass seed production. To investigate the effects of irrigation and N rate on seed yield (SY), yield components, and water use efficiency (WUE) of Cleistogenes songorica (Roshevitz) Ohwi, an ecologically significant perennial grass, a four-year (2016–2019) field trial was conducted in an arid region of northwestern China. Two irrigation regimes (I1 treatment: irrigation at tillering stage; I2 treatment: irrigation at tillering, spikelet initiation, and early flowering stages) and four N rates (0, 60, 120, 180 kg ha−1) were arranged. Increasing amounts of both irrigation and N improved SY, evapotranspiration, WUE, and related yield components like fertile tillers m−2 (FTSM) and seeds spikelet−1. Meanwhile, no significant difference was observed between 120 and 180 kg N ha−1 treatments for most variables. The highest SY and WUE was obtained with treatment combination of I2 plus 120 kg N ha−1 with four-year average values of 507.3 kg ha−1 and 1.8 kg ha−1 mm−1, respectively. Path coefficient and contribution analysis indicated that FTSM was the most important yield component for SY, with direct path coefficient and contribution coefficient of 0.626 and 0.592. Overall, we recommend I2 treatment (three irrigations) together with 120 kg N ha−1 to both increase SY and WUE, especially in arid regions. Future agronomic managements and breeding programs for seed should mainly focus on FTSM. For nickel-based single crystal superalloy DD6 (AECC Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials, Beijing, China) material, a method for predicting creep rupture time was proposed based on a newly defined equivalent stress method. An anisotropic creep model for describing the orientation-dependent creep behavior and lifetime of a nickel-based single crystal superalloy was proposed. The creep subroutine was written based on the proposed nickel-based single crystal creep model. The stability of the model was improved by adjusting the iterative algorithm. The creep calculation results in [001], [011], and [111] loading directions were compared with the experimental results. In this paper, the poly-Si nanowire (NW) field-effect transistor (FET) sensor arrays were fabricated by adopting low-temperature annealing (600 °C/30 s) and feasible spacer image transfer (SIT) processes for future monolithic three-dimensional integrated circuits (3D-ICs) applications. Compared with other fabrication methods of poly-Si NW sensors, the SIT process exhibits the characteristics of highly uniform poly-Si NW arrays with well-controlled morphology (about 25 nm in width and 35 nm in length). Conventional metal silicide and implantation techniques were introduced to reduce the parasitic resistance of source and drain (SD) and improve the conductivity. Therefore, the obtained sensors exhibit >106 switching ratios and 965 mV/dec subthreshold swing (SS), which exhibits similar results compared with that of SOI Si NW sensors. However, the poly-Si NW FET sensors show the Vth shift as high as about 178 ± 1 mV/pH, which is five times larger than that of the SOI Si NW sensors. The fabricated poly-Si NW sensors with 600 °C/30 s processing temperature and good device performance provide feasibility for future monolithic three-dimensional integrated circuit (3D-IC) applications. Acetone is a biomarker in the exhaled breath of diabetic patients; sensitive and selective detection of acetone in human exhaled breath plays an important role in noninvasive diagnosis. Tungsten oxide (especially for γ-WO3) is a promising material for the detection of breath acetone. It is generally believed that the stable metastable phase of WO3 (ε-WO3) is the main reason for the improved response to acetone detection. In this work, pure and Cr-doped urchin-like WO3 hollow spheres were synthesized by a facile hydrothermal approach. Analyses of the resulting materials via X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman confirmed that they are mainly composed by γ-WO3. The gas sensing performances of pure and Cr-doped WO3 to acetone were systematically tested. Results show that the sensor based on pure WO3 annealed at 450 °C has a high response of 20.32 toward 100 ppm acetone at a working temperature of 250 °C. After doped with Cr, the response was increased 3.5 times higher than the pure WO3 sensor. The pure and Cr-doped WO3 sensors both exhibit a tiny response to other gases, low detection limits (ppb-level) and an excellent repeatability. The improvement of gas sensing properties could be attributed to an optimized morphology of Cr-doped WO3 by regulating the crystal growth and reducing the assembled nanowires' diameter. The increasing number of oxygen vacancy and the introduction of impurity energy level with trap effect after Cr doping would lead to the wider depletion layer as well as a better gas sensing performance. In aircraft gas turbine engines, gears in the transmission system are typically cyclic in structure and inevitably encounter large dynamic loads, such as meshing excitation, resulting in high vibration loads in resonance. To prevent gear resonance failure, a ring damper is employed to reduce the resonance response. As relative motion between the gear and the ring damper occurs, vibration loads can be reduced by friction energy dissipation. Moreover, the gears in the aircraft engine are thin-walled and their axial stiffness is much smaller than radial stiffness; thus, it is easier for axial vibration to cause resonance failure. This paper proposes an equivalent damping numerical prediction method for a ring damper under axial vibration, which greatly shortens the calculation time and prevents the forced response analysis of nonlinear structures. Via this method, the influence of ring damper structural parameters on friction damping in gears under axial vibration is investigated. Elymus sibiricus, which is a perennial and self-pollinated grass, is the typical species of the genus Elymus, which plays an important role in forage production and ecological restoration. No reports have, so far, systematically described the selection of optimal reference genes for reverse transcriptase quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) analysis in E. sibiricus. The goals of this study were to evaluate the expression stability of 13 candidate reference genes in different experimental conditions, and to determine the appropriate reference genes for gene expression analysis in E. sibiricus. Five methods including Delta Ct (ΔCt), BestKeeper, NormFinder, geNorm, and RefFinder were used to assess the expression stability of 13 potential reference genes. The results of the RefFinder analysis showed that TBP2 and HIS3 were the most stable reference genes in different genotypes. TUA2 and PP2A had the most stable expression in different developmental stages. TBP2 and PP2A were suitable reference genes in different tissues. Under salt stress, ACT2 and TBP2 were identified as the most stable reference genes. ACT2 and TUA2 showed the most stability under heat stress. For cold stress, PP2A and ACT2 presented the highest degree of expression stability. DNAJ and U2AF were considered as the most stable reference genes under osmotic stress. The optimal reference genes were selected to investigate the expression pattern of target gene CSLE6 in different conditions. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrates with high sensitivity and reproducibility are highly desirable for high precision and even molecular-level detection applications. Here, large-scale uniformly hybrid nanoparticle-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (NERS) substrates with high reproducibility and controllability were developed. Using oxygen plasma treatment, large-area and uniformly rough polystyrene sphere (URPS) arrays in conjunction with 20 nm Au films (AuURPS) were fabricated for SERS substrates. Au nanoparticles and clusters covered the surface of the URPS arrays, and this increased the Raman signal. In the detection of malachite green (MG), the fabricated NERS substrates have high reproducibility and sensitivity. The enhancement factor (EF) of Au nanoparticles and clusters was simulated by finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations and the EF was more than 104. The measured EF of our developed substrate was more than 108 with a relative standard deviation as low as 6.64%–13.84% over 15 points on the substrate. The minimum limit for the MG molecules reached 50 ng/mL. Moreover, the Raman signal had a good linear relationship with the logarithmic concentration of MG, as it ranged from 50 ng/mL to 5 μg/mL. In this paper, the viewpoint that maximum resolved shear stress corresponding to the two slip systems in a nickel-based single crystal high-temperature fatigue experiment works together was put forward. A nickel-based single crystal fatigue life prediction model based on modified resolved shear stress amplitude was proposed. For the four groups of fatigue data, eight classical fatigue life prediction models were compared with the model proposed in this paper. Strain parameter is poor in fatigue life prediction as a damage parameter. The life prediction results of the fatigue life prediction model with stress amplitude as the damage parameter, the fatigue life prediction model with maximum resolved shear stress in 30 slip directions as the damage parameter, and the McDiarmid (McD) model, are better. Alfalfa is the most extensively cultivated forage legume worldwide. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying alfalfa responses to exogenous abscisic acid (ABA) are still unknown. In this study, the first global transcriptome profiles of alfalfa roots under ABA treatments for 1, 3 and 12 h (three biological replicates for each time point, including the control group) were constructed using a BGISEQ-500 sequencing platform. A total of 50,742 isoforms with a mean length of 2541 bp were generated, and 4944 differentially expressed isoforms (DEIs) were identified after ABA deposition. Metabolic analyses revealed that these DEIs were involved in plant hormone signal transduction, transcriptional regulation, antioxidative defense and pathogen immunity. Notably, several well characterized hormone signaling pathways, for example, the core ABA signaling pathway, was activated, while salicylic acid, jasmonate and ethylene signaling pathways were mainly suppressed by exogenous ABA. Moreover, the physiological work showed that catalase and peroxidase activity and glutathione and proline content were increased after ABA deposition, which is in accordance with the dynamic transcript profiles of the relevant genes in antioxidative defense system. In turbomachinery applications, thin-walled gears are cyclic symmetric structures and often subject to dynamic meshing loading which may result in high cycle fatigue (HCF) of the thin-walled gear. To avoid HCF failure, ring dampers are designed for gears to increase damping and reduce resonance amplitude. Ring dampers are installed in the groove. They are held in contact with the groove by normal pressure generated by interference or centrifugal force. Vibration energy is attenuated (converted to heat) by frictional force on the contact interface when the relative motion between ring dampers and gears takes place. In this article, a numerical method for the prediction of friction damping in thin-walled gears with ring dampers is proposed. The nonlinear damping due to the friction is expressed as equivalent mechanical damping in the form of vibration stress dependence. This method avoids the forced response analysis of nonlinear structures, thereby significantly reducing the time required for calculation. The validity of this numerical method is examined by a comparison with literature data. The method is applied to a thin-walled gear with a ring damper and the effect of design parameters on friction damping is studied. The gear is a cyclic symmetric structure, and each tooth is subjected to a periodic mesh force. These mesh forces have the same phase difference tooth by tooth, which can excite gear vibrations. The mechanism of additional axial force caused by gear bending is shown and examined, which can significantly affect the stability of a self-excited thin spur gears vibration. A mechanical model based on energy balance is then developed to predict the contribution of additional axial force, leading to the proposed numerical integration method for vibration stability analysis. By analyzing the change in the system energy, the occurrence of the self-excited vibration is validated. A numerical simulation is carried out to verify the theoretical analysis. The impacts of modal damping, contact ratio, and the number of nodal diameters on the stability boundaries of the self-excited vibration are revealed. The results prove that the backward traveling wave of the driven gear as well as the forward traveling wave of the driving gear encounter self-excited vibration in the absence of sufficient damping. Plant growth and development depends on its ability to maintain optimal cellular homeostasis during abiotic and biotic stresses. Cleistogenes songorica, a xerophyte desert plant, is known to have novel drought stress adaptation strategies and contains rich pools of stress tolerance genes. Proteins encoded by Late Embryogenesis Abundant (LEA) family genes promote cellular activities by functioning as disordered molecules, or by limiting collisions between enzymes during stresses. To date, functions of the LEA family genes have been heavily investigated in many plant species except perennial monocotyledonous species. In this study, 44 putative LEA genes were identified in the C. songorica genome and were grouped into eight subfamilies, based on their conserved protein domains and domain organizations. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that C. songorica Dehydrin and LEA_2 subfamily proteins shared high sequence homology with stress responsive Dehydrin proteins from Arabidopsis. Additionally, promoter regions of CsLEA_2 or CsDehydrin subfamily genes were rich in G-box, drought responsive (MBS), and/or Abscisic acid responsive (ABRE) cis-regulatory elements. In addition, gene expression analyses indicated that genes from these two subfamilies were highly responsive to heat stress and ABA treatment, in both leaves and roots. In summary, the results from this study provided a comprehensive view of C. songoricaLEA genes and the potential applications of these genes for the improvement of crop tolerance to abiotic stresses. Cultivated alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is one of the most important perennial legume forages in the world, and it has considerable potential as a valuable forage crop for livestock. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying alfalfa responses to cold stress are largely unknown. In this study, the transcriptome changes in alfalfa under cold stress at 4 °C for 2, 6, 24, and 48 h (three replicates for each time point) were analyzed using the high-throughput sequencing platform, BGISEQ-500, resulting in the identification of 50,809 annotated unigenes and 5283 differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Metabolic pathway enrichment analysis demonstrated that the DEGs were involved in carbohydrate metabolism, photosynthesis, plant hormone signal transduction, and the biosynthesis of amino acids. Moreover, the physiological changes of glutathione and proline content, catalase, and peroxidase activity were in accordance with dynamic transcript profiles of the relevant genes. Additionally, some transcription factors might play important roles in the alfalfa response to cold stress, as determined by the expression pattern of the related genes during 48 h of cold stress treatment. These findings provide valuable information for identifying and characterizing important components in the cold signaling network in alfalfa and enhancing the understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying alfalfa responses to cold stress. Melilotus albus and Melilotus officinalis are widely used in forage production and herbal medicine due to the biological activity of their coumarins, which have many biological and pharmacological activities, including anti-HIV and anti-tumor effects. To comprehensively evaluate M. albus and M. officinalis coumarin content (Cou), morphological variation, and molecular phylogeny, we examined the Cou, five morphological traits and the molecular characterization based on the trnL-F spacer and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of 93 accessions. Significant (p < 0.05) variation was observed in the Cou and all five morphological traits in both species. Analysis of population differentiation (Pst) of the phenotypic traits showed that powdery mildew resistance (PMR) had the greatest Pst, meaning that this trait demonstrated the largest genetic differentiation among the accessions. The Pst values of dry matter yield (DMY) and Cou were relatively high. Biplot analysis identified accessions with higher DMY and higher and lower Cou. Analysis of molecular sequence variation identified seven haplotypes of the trnL-F spacer and 13 haplotypes of the ITS region. Based on haplotype and sequence analyses, the genetic variation of M. officinalis was higher than that of M. albus. Additionally, ITS sequence analysis showed that the variation among accessions was larger than that among species across three geographical areas: Asia, Europe, and North America. Similarly, variation among accessions for both the trnL-F and ITS sequences were larger than the differences between the geographical areas. Our results indicate that there has been considerable gene flow between the two Melilotus species. Our characterization of Cou and the morphological and genetic variations of these two Melilotus species may provide useful insights into germplasm improvement to enhance DMY and Cou. Microsatellite (simple sequence repeats, SSRs) marker is one of the most widely used markers in marker-assisted breeding. As one type of functional markers, MicroRNA-based SSR (miRNA-SSR) markers have been exploited mainly in animals, but the development and characterization of miRNA-SSR markers in plants are still limited. In the present study, miRNA-SSR markers for Medicago truncatula ( M. truncatula ) were developed and their cross-species transferability in six leguminous species was evaluated. A total of 169 primer pairs were successfully designed from 130 M. truncatula miRNA genes, the majority of which were mononucleotide repeats (70.41%), followed by dinucleotide repeats (14.20%), compound repeats (11.24%) and trinucleotide repeats (4.14%). Functional classification of SSR-containing miRNA genes showed that all targets could be grouped into three Gene Ontology (GO) categories: 17 in biological process, 11 in molecular function, and 14 in cellular component. The miRNA-SSR markers showed high transferability in other six leguminous species, ranged from 74.56% to 90.53%. Furthermore, 25 Mt - miRNA-SSR markers were used to evaluate polymorphisms in 20 alfalfa accessions, and the polymorphism information content (PIC) values ranged from 0.39 to 0.89 with an average of 0.71, the allele number per marker varied from 3 to 18 with an average of 7.88, indicating a high level of informativeness. In order to monitor the crack tip propagation of aluminum alloy, this study investigates the variation of the spectrum characteristics of a fiber Bragg grating (FBG), combined with an analysis of the spectrum simulation. The results identify the location of the subordinate peak as significantly associated with the strain distribution along the grating, corresponding to the different plastic zones ahead of the crack tip with various crack lengths. FBG sensors could observe monotonic and cyclic plastic zones ahead of the crack tip, with the quadratic strain distribution along the grating at the crack tip-FBG distance of 1.2 and 0.7 mm, respectively. FBG sensors could examine the process zones ahead of the crack tip with the cubic strain distribution along the grating at the crack tip-FBG distance of 0.5 mm. The spectrum oscillation occurs as the crack approaches the FBG where the highly heterogeneous strain is distributed. Another idea is to use a finite element method (FEM), together with a T -matrix method, to analyze the reflection intensity spectra of FBG sensors for various crack sizes. Common vetch ( Vicia sativa subsp. sativa L.) is a self-pollinating annual forage legume with worldwide importance. Here, we investigate the optimal number of individuals that may represent the genetic diversity of a single population, using Start Codon Targeted (SCoT) markers. Two cultivated varieties and two wild accessions were evaluated using five SCoT primers, also testing different sampling sizes: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 individuals. The results showed that the number of alleles and the Polymorphism Information Content ( PIC ) were different among the four accessions. Cluster analysis by Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean (UPGMA) and STRUCTURE placed the 240 individuals into four distinct clusters. The Expected Heterozygosity ( H E ) and PIC increased along with an increase in sampling size from 1 to 10 plants but did not change significantly when the sample sizes exceeded 10 individuals. At least 90% of the genetic variation in the four germplasms was represented when the sample size was 10. Finally, we concluded that 10 individuals could effectively represent the genetic diversity of one vetch population based on the SCoT markers. This study provides theoretical support for genetic diversity, cultivar identification, evolution, and marker-assisted selection breeding in common vetch.

A general framework for structural fatigue life evaluation under fatigue cyclic loading using limited sensor data is proposed in this paper. First, limited sensor data are measured from various sensors which are preset on the complex structure. Then the strain data at remote spots are used to obtain the strain responses at critical spots by the strain/stress reconstruction method based on empirical mode decomposition (REMD method). All the computations in this paper are directly performed in the time domain. After the local stress responses at critical spots are determined, fatigue life evaluation can be performed for structural health management and risk assessment. Fatigue life evaluation using the reconstructed stresses from remote strain gauge measurement data is also demonstrated with detailed error analysis. Following this, the proposed methodology is demonstrated using a three-dimensional frame structure and a simplified airfoil structure. Finally, several conclusions and future work are drawn based on the proposed study.

Siberian wild rye (Elymus sibiricus L.) is an important native grass in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau of China. It is difficult to grow for commercial seed production, since seed shattering causes yield losses during harvest. Assessing the genetic diversity and relationships among germplasm from its primary distribution area contributes to evaluating the potential for its utilization as a gene pool to improve the desired agronomic traits. In the study, 40 EST-SSR primers were used to assess the genetic diversity and population structure of 36 E. sibiricus accessions with variation of seed shattering. A total of 380 bands were generated, with an average of 9.5 bands per primer. The polymorphic information content (PIC) ranged from 0.23 to 0.50. The percentage of polymorphic bands (P) for the species was 87.11%, suggesting a high degree of genetic diversity. Based on population structure analysis, four groups were formed, similar to results of principal coordinate analysis (PCoA). The molecular variance analysis (AMOVA) revealed the majority of genetic variation occurred within geographical regions (83.40%). Two genotypes from Y1005 and ZhN06 were used to generate seven F₁ hybrids. The molecular and morphological diversity analysis of F₁ population revealed rich genetic variation and high level of seed shattering variation in F₁ population, resulting in significant improvement of the genetic base and desired agronomic traits.

Transcription factors (TFs) are critical adaptor molecules that regulate many plant processes by controlling gene expression. The recent increase in the availability of TF data has made TFs a valuable resource for genic functional microsatellite marker development. In the present study, we developed TF gene-derived microsatellite (TFGM) markers for Medicago truncatula and assessed their cross-species transferability. A total of 203 SSRs were identified from 1467 M. truncatula TF coding sequences, 87.68% of which were trinucleotide repeats, followed by mono- (4.93%) and hexanucleotide repeats (1.48%). Further, 142 TFGM markers showed a high level of transferability to the leguminous (55.63%-85.21%) and non-leguminous (28.17%-50.00%) species. Polymorphisms of 27 TFGM markers were evaluated in 44 alfalfa accessions. The allele number per marker ranged from two to eight with an average of 4.41, and the PIC values ranged from 0.08 to 0.84 with an average of 0.60. Considering the high polymorphism, these TFGM markers developed in our study will be valuable for genetic relationship assessments, marker-assisted selection and comparative genomic studies in leguminous and non-leguminous species.

Elymus sibiricus as an important forage grass and gene pool for improving cereal crops, that is widely distributed in West and North China. Information on its genetic diversity and relationships is limited but necessary for germplasm collection, conservation and future breeding. Start Codon Targeted (SCoT) markers were used for studying the genetic diversity and relationships among 53 E. sibiricus accessions from its primary distribution area in China. A total of 173 bands were generated from 16 SCoT primers, 159 bands of which were polymorphic with the percentage of polymorphic bands (PPB) of 91.91%. Based upon population structure analysis five groups were formed. The cluster analysis separated the accessions into two major clusters and three sub-clusters, similar to results of principal coordinate analysis (PCoA). The molecular variance analysis (AMOVA) showed that genetic variation was greater within geographical regions (50.99%) than between them (49.01%). Furthermore, the study also suggested that collecting and evaluating E. sibiricus germplasm for major geographic regions and special environments broadens the available genetic base and illustrates the range of variation. The results of the present study showed that SCoT markers were efficient in assessing the genetic diversity among E. sibiricus accessions.

The common vetch (Vicia sativa subsp. sativa), a self-pollinating and diploid species, is one of the most important annual legumes in the world due to its short growth period, high nutritional value, and multiple usages as hay, grain, silage, and green manure. The available simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers for common vetch, however, are insufficient to meet the developing demand for genetic and molecular research on this important species. Here, we aimed to develop and characterise several polymorphic EST-SSR markers from the vetch Illumina transcriptome. A total number of 1,071 potential EST-SSR markers were identified from 1025 unigenes whose lengths were greater than 1,000 bp, and 450 primer pairs were then designed and synthesized. Finally, 95 polymorphic primer pairs were developed for the 10 common vetch accessions, which included 50 individuals. Among the 95 EST-SSR markers, the number of alleles ranged from three to 13, and the polymorphism information content values ranged from 0.09 to 0.98. The observed heterozygosity values ranged from 0.00 to 1.00, and the expected heterozygosity values ranged from 0.11 to 0.98. These 95 EST-SSR markers developed from the vetch Illumina transcriptome could greatly promote the development of genetic and molecular breeding studies pertaining to in this species.
