The claw-pole motor, known for its simple structure, is widely used in various fields due to its cost competitiveness. However, a drawback of the fixed-stator-type claw-pole motor is its vulnerability to eddy current losses. Therefore, this paper presents a single-phase claw-pole motor applied as a motor for cooling fans, with the aim of reducing eddy current losses and improving performance based on shape optimization, ultimately resulting in a single-phase claw-pole motor that meets the desired performance. The validity of this approach is verified through 3D finite element analysis (FEA).

In this paper, a single-phase BLDC motor is applied to a cooling fan motor and a Drive IC integration analysis method of the single-phase BLDC motor is proposed. Single-phase BLDC motors have a simple structure, are easy to manufacture, and are low cost, so they are used in applications where low outputs and low costs are advantageous. Single-phase BLDC motors use a full-bridge inverter (Drive IC), and this inverter (Drive IC) has dead time due to switching. Therefore, in order to consider dead time when analyzing a single-phase BLDC motor, analysis through integration with Drive IC is necessary. This paper compares the types of single-phase BLDC motors, designs a model that satisfies target performance, and conducts research on Drive IC integration analysis through FEA. A prototype motor was manufactured and tested, and the validity of the Drive IC integration analysis was verified.

This paper proposes a design method to reduce cogging torque and torque ripple in the concentrated winding of IPMSMs (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors) used in motors for the semiconductor ETCH process. IPMSMs can utilize reluctance torque through the difference in inductance between the d axis and q axis, but they are at a disadvantage in terms of reducing cogging torque while tapering the rotor and stator to reduce torque ripple. In addition, the existing single tapering can push the permanent magnets into the rotor. If the rotor’s permanent magnets are embedded, the magnetic reluctance will increase, and the overall performance of the motor will decrease. However, an optimum design method was derived in which the magnets do not move during rotor tapering. This geometric design is an optimum design method that reduces cogging torque and torque ripple. This paper compares and analyzes four models, the concentrated winding model, distributed winding model, conventional tapering model, and separated tapering model, using 2D and 3D finite element analysis (FEA).

Demand for high-speed motors is increasing. Surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motors (SPMSM) used in high-speed applications have magnets attached to the rotor, so there is a risk of damage and scattering due to centrifugal force as the speed increases. For this reason, applying the retaining sleeve to the rotor is essential. However, when using sleeves, there is a problem of reducing efficiency due to eddy current loss. In this paper, a study was conducted on a motor for a 100 kW building air conditioning system operating at a speed of 20,000 rpm. The purpose of the study is to reduce eddy current loss by optimizing the sleeve geometry. To this end, 3D finite element analysis (FEA) using JMAG 22.1 was conducted to analyze eddy current loss, the minimum safety factor was analyzed through mechanical stiffness analysis using ANSYS Workbench, and the validity of sleeve shape was proved through cause analysis. Through the research results, it is expected that the shape change of the sleeve will have the effect of reducing eddy current loss.

Axial flux motors have a large output density with a large outer diameter of the motor and a short axial length. Since it is advantageous in short axial length, the axial thickness of motor components becomes a very important parameter when designing axial flux motors. Among the components, the back yoke exists to serve as a path for magnetic flux and must have a certain thickness to prevent magnetic saturation. However, as the thickness of the back yoke increases within the axial size limit of the motor, the output of the motor may decrease. In this paper, same-direction skew that increases the cross-sectional area of the magnetic flux path without increasing the thickness of the back yoke is presented. Same-direction skew is a way to increase the cross-sectional area of the back yoke by skewing the rotor and stator in the same direction. The back yoke thickness that can be reduced by same-direction skew was calculated. Performance with same-direction skew designed using the equations was analyzed and compared, and the effectiveness of each type of rotor was verified. The validity of the proposed model was examined using the finite element analysis method.

The core design elements of the motor for the co-robot joint are miniaturization and high torque. In this paper, a dual rotor axial-flux permanent magnet (DRAFPM) motor is proposed to improve the performance of robot joints. DRAFPM motors have the advantage of reducing iron loss and minimizing volume because they can remove stator yoke. When designing a motor with the same volume, it can be designed to increase the height of the fixed ruler by the thickness of the yoke of the fixed ruler and increase the number of turns. In the case of existing axial-flux permanent magnet (AFPM) motors, the shape of the three-dimensional structure is limited by radial laminating of stator. Therefore, considering the production of 3D printing, the shape of stator shoe is designed. The optimal design problem of DRAFPM motor consists of real and integer design variables. In addition, due to the structural characteristics of DRAFPM motors, 3D finite element analysis (FEA) is required, so it takes a long time to interpret. Therefore, this paper proposes an efficient optimal design process to optimize the remaining real design variables after prioritizing the integer design variables. The proposed optimization process is applied to the DRAFPM motor for robot joints, and the optimal design plan satisfying the design function is derived from various design variables to prove the validity of the optimization process.

Recently, high-speed motors are receiving a lot of attention in the industrial field. When driving a motor at high speed, the advantages include high power density, high efficiency, and miniaturization. However, the disadvantages of the high-speed operation of motors are mechanical and structural safety. This is because the bearings used in high-speed motors require characteristics such as precision and low friction. There are two prominent types of bearings mainly used in high-speed motors: rolling bearings and magnetic bearings. A feature of rolling bearings is that they reduce frictional resistance by contacting points or lines between the shaft and the bearing. However, the disadvantages of rolling bearings are high mechanical friction losses due to the need for contact with the lubrication system. Maintenance costs are high. For this reason, a lot of research on bearings is being conducted to reduce the frictional loss of bearings and increase their efficiency and reliability. Bearings that are advantageous for high-speed operation are magnetic bearings that do not require lubricants, have no friction loss, and have low maintenance. However, magnetic bearings have disadvantages such as high cost and difficulty in miniaturization. In this paper, a stator with a separated teeth structure was used to compensate for these disadvantages. Using this, a model with miniaturization, light weight, and high manufacturability was proposed. The model name proposed in this study is called the STMB (separated teeth magnetic bearing). There are also disadvantages of the STMB model proposed in this paper. A model that compensates for this drawback is called the HSTMB (hybrid separated teeth magnetic bearing). The HSTMB reduces the weight by removing the back yoke of the stator and has advantages of a high filling rate and high productivity in the form of a module. As a result, high productivity, light weight, and high performance are possible when the HSTMB is applied, which was proven through FEA (finite element analysis).

The PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) is being studied a lot in traction motors for high efficiency and high performance. Usually, magnets containing rare earth elements are used. However, since rare earth elements are not suitable for future industries due to their limited reserves, many studies on magnets excluding rare earth elements are being conducted. Magnets excluding rare earth elements have a low coercive force and are vulnerable to irreversible demagnetization, so their design must be robust. Additionally, the design used for reducing the cogging torque, which is a major variable of traction motors, is also important. Therefore, in this study, a design process for reducing irreversible demagnetization and cogging torque is proposed. There are three methods for this process. The first one is the application of the tapering structure, and the second one is the tapering skew structure. The third one is the application of an asymmetric air hole. As a result of these methods, the target irreversible demagnetization ratio was satisfied and the cogging torque was reduced. This was proven through FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and verified by comparing and analyzing the experimental results and simulation results of actual manufacturing.

When a magnetic bearing is used in the design of a high-speed motor, no friction and wear occur because of the principle of magnetic levitation; however, the size of the entire system increases. An integrated magnetic bearing motor is a motor with a magnetic bearing inserted inside the rotor that can minimize the increase in the size of the entire system. In this study, a method to reduce the bearing force ripple and torque ripple of an integrated magnetic bearing motor through parameters for a Halbach array and permanent magnet tapering is proposed. When designing an integrated magnetic bearing motor, because the magnetic bearing is located inside the rotor, the influence of the magnetic flux of the rotor and stator on the magnetic flux of the magnetic bearing should be minimized. By combining the magnetic fluxes of the magnetic bearing, rotor, and stator at the rotor back yoke, magnetic saturation occurs, and the performance of the bearing force and torque ripples decreases. The bearing force and torque according to the Halbach array and permanent magnet tapering were analyzed using finite element analysis. The average bearing force and torque were maximized, and the ripple was minimized through the rotor parameters. Thus, the validity of the main design variables selected to improve the output characteristics was confirmed.

Recently, due to the development of semiconductor technology, high-performance memory and digital convergence technology that integrates and implements various functions into one semiconductor chip has been regarded as the next-generation core technology. In the semiconductor manufacturing process, various motors are being applied for automated processes and high product reliability. However, dust and shaft loss due to mechanical friction of a general motor system composed of motor-bearing are problematic for semiconductor wafer processing. In addition, in the edge bread remove (EBR) process after the photoresist application process, a nozzle position control system for removing unnecessary portions of the wafer edge is absolutely necessary. Therefore, in this paper, in order to solve the problems occurring in the semiconductor process, a six-degrees-of-freedom (6-DOF) magnetic levitation system without shaft and bearing was designed for application to the semiconductor process system; and an integrated driving control algorithm for 6-DOF control (levitation, rotation, tilt (Roll–Pitch), X–Y axis movement) using the force of each current component derived through current vector control was proposed. Finally, the 6-DOF magnetic levitation system with the non-contact position sensors was fabricated and the validity of the 6-DOF magnetic levitation control method proposed in this paper was verified through a performance test using a prototype.

This study aimed to determine whether patients with type 2 diabetes can benefit from a meal plan designed based on diabetes management guidelines to improve blood glucose levels. Participants were divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group consumed a diabetic diet for 2 weeks, while the control group consumed their normal diet. After 2 weeks, the groups switched their dietary regimens. The participants’ demographic and clinical characteristics were evaluated, including factors such as blood pressure, blood lipid levels, weight and waist circumference, blood glucose levels (self-monitored and continuously monitored), nutritional status, and blood-based markers of nutrient intake. The dietary intervention group improved waist circumference, body fat percentage, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglyceride levels, and glucose. The energy composition ratio of carbohydrates and proteins changed favorably, and sugar intake decreased. In addition, the proportion of continuous glucose monitoring readings within the range of 180–250 mg/dL was relatively lower in the intervention group than that of the control group. Meals designed based on diabetes management guidelines can improve clinical factors, including stable blood glucose levels in daily life, significantly decrease the carbohydrate energy ratio, and increase the protein energy ratio. This study can help determine the role of dietary interventions in diabetes management and outcomes.
