COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, is still affecting the entire world via the rapid emergence of new contagious variants. Vaccination remains the most effective prevention strategy for viral infection, yet not all countries have sufficient access to vaccines due to limitations in manufacturing and transportation. Thus, there is an urgent need to develop an easy-to-use, safe, and low-cost vaccination approach. Genetically modified microorganisms, especially probiotics, are now commonly recognized as attractive vehicles for delivering bioactive molecules via oral and mucosal routes. In this study, Lactobacillus casei has been selected as the oral vaccine candidate based on its’ natural immunoadjuvant properties and the ability to resist acidic gastric environment, to express antigens of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant B.1.1.529 with B-cell and T-cell epitopes. This newly developed vaccine, OMGVac, was shown to elicit a robust IgG systemic immune response against the spike protein of Omicron variant B.1.1.529 in Golden Syrian hamsters. No adverse effects were found throughout this study, and the overall safety was evaluated in terms of physiological and histopathological examinations of different organs harvested. In addition, this study illustrated the use of the recombinant probiotic as a live delivery vector in the initiation of systemic immunity, which shed light on the future development of next-generation vaccines to combat emerging infectious diseases.

With a close pathogenetic resemblance to human diabetes, canine Diabetes Mellitus, a chronic metabolic disease featuring abnormally high blood sugar levels, is increasing in prevalence worldwide. Unlike humans, canine glycemic control requires life-long insulin injections and dietary control in most cases, thereby jeopardizing diabetic dogs’ quality of life and increasing the difficulty of disease control. While many research studies have focused on elucidating the relationship between the canine gut microbiome and diseases, there is currently no research on the subject of diabetes mellitus in dogs. We hypothesized that the gut microbiome of canines with diabetes mellitus is different from that of healthy controls. Thus, we performed targeted 16S rRNA sequencing and comprehensive bioinformatic analysis to compare the gut microbiome profiles of 16 diabetic dogs with those of 32 healthy dogs. Clostridioides difficile, Phocaeicola plebeius, Lacrimispora indolis, and Butyricicoccus pullicaecorum were found to be enriched in diabetic dogs. A distinct shift towards carbohydrate degradation metabolic pathways was found to be differentially abundant in the diabetic subjects. Alteration of the co-occurrence network was also evident in the diabetic group. In conclusion, our study suggests that the gut microbial landscape differs in diabetic canines at the genera, species, functional, and network levels. These findings have significant implications for disease management, and thus warrant further research.

Thinning the buffer layer thickness between the GaN epilayer and Si substrate without introducing large residual stress is persistently desired for GaN-on-Si devices to promote their thermal budgets and low-cost, multifunctional applications. In this work, the GaN-on-Si heterostructures were directly bonded at room temperature by surface activated bonding (SAB) and the therein residual stress states were investigated by confocal micro-Raman. The effects of thermal annealing process on the residual stress and interfacial microstructure in SAB fabricated GaN-on-Si heterostructures were also systematically investigated by in situ micro-Raman and transmission electron microscopy. It was found that a significant relaxation and a more uniform stress distribution was obtained in SAB bonded GaN-on-Si heterostructure in comparison with that of MOCVD grown sample; however, with increasing annealing temperature, the residual stresses at the SAB bonded GaN layer and Si layer evolute monotonically in different trends. The main reason can be ascribed to the amorphous layer formed at the bonding interface, which played a critical stress relaxation role and transformed into a much thinner crystallized interlayer without any observable structural defects after 1000 °C annealing.

The hypocholesterolemic protective effect of the dried seed of Astragalus complanatus (ACS) was investigated in rats fed with normal diet, high cholesterol diet (HCD), and HCD plus 70% ethanol extract of ACS (600 mg/kg/day) by oral gavage for four weeks. ACS extract was tested to be rich in antioxidants, which may be contributed to its high content of phenolic compounds. Consumption of ACS remarkably suppressed the elevated total cholesterol (p < 0.01) and LDL-C (p < 0.001) induced by HCD. Chemical constituents of ACS extract were analyzed by ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization orbitrap mass spectrometry and the results showed that the ACS extract mainly consisted of phenolic compounds including flavonoids and flavonoid glycosides. In addition, based on the serum fatty acid profiles, elucidated using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, free and esterified fatty acids including docosapentaenoic acid, adrenic acid, dihomo-γ-linolenic acid and arachidonic acid were regulated in ACS treatment group. Western blot results further indicated the protein expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) (p < 0.05) in liver was upregulated in ACS treatment group. To conclude, our results clearly demonstrated that ACS provides beneficial effect on lowering HCD associated detrimental change.

Metal thickness measurements are essential in various industrial applications, yet current non-contact ultrasonic methods face limitations in range and accuracy, hindering the widespread adoption of electromagnetic ultrasonics. This study introduces a novel combined thickness measurement method employing fuzzy logic, with the aim of broadening the applicational scope of the EMAT. Leveraging minimal hardware, this method utilizes the short pulse time-of-flight (TOF) technique for initial thickness estimation, followed by secondary measurements guided by fuzzy logic principles. The integration of measurements from the resonance, short pulse echo, and linear frequency modulation echo extends the measurement range while enhancing accuracy. Rigorous experimental validation validates the method’s effectiveness, demonstrating a measurement range of 0.3–1000.0 mm with a median error within ±0.5 mm. Outperforming traditional methods like short pulse echoes, this approach holds significant industrial potential.

To satisfy the needs of precision machining, ultrafine tungsten carbide (WC)-based cemented carbide with fine grain size and excellent mechanical properties was prepared. Ultrafine cemented carbide was prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS) using WC, Co as raw materials and metal elements V, and Cr as additives, and the effects of metal elements on the microstructure and mechanical properties of cemented carbide were investigated. The results show that the specimen (91.6WC-1.2V-1.2Cr-6Co) prepared at 1350 °C, 6 min, 25 MPa has the best mechanical properties (HV 2322.9, KIC 8.7 MPa·m1/2) and homogeneous microstructure. The metal elements could react with WC to form a (W, V, Cr) Cx segregation layer, which effectively inhibits the growth of WC grains (300 nm). The combination of SPS and metal element additives provides a new approach for the preparation of ultrafine cemented carbides with excellent properties.

The application of titanium alloy in shipbuilding can reduce ship weight and carbon emissions. To solve the problem of titanium alloy forming, the deformation prediction of titanium alloy line heating based on a backpropagation (BP) neural network and sparrow search algorithm (SSA) was researched. Based on the thermal–elastic–plastic finite element method, the numerical calculation model of TA5 titanium alloy overlapping heating forming was established. The feasibility of the model was verified by comparing it with the numerical calculation and experiment of low-carbon steel. Considering the characteristics of the titanium alloy-forming process, 73 groups of titanium alloy-forming schemes were obtained by the Latin hypercube sampling method. The deformation data of the samples were obtained by using the numerical calculation model of titanium alloy forming. The prediction methods of titanium alloy-forming deformation based on BP, genetic algorithm–backpropagation (GA-BP), and SSA-BP were proposed. The accuracy of different neural network prediction models was analyzed. The mean absolute percentage errors (MAPEs) of BP, GA-BP, and SSA-BP in shrinkage prediction were 7.45%, 4.08%, and 2.96%, respectively. The MAPEs of BP, GA-BP, and SSA-BP in deflection prediction were 8.44%, 4.73%, and 2.64%, respectively. The goodness of fit (R2) of SSA-BP is closest to 1 among the three models. The calculation results show that SSA-BP is better than BP and GA-BP in predicting the forming deformation of titanium alloy. The maximum prediction error of SSA-BP is 4.95%, which is within the allowable range of engineering error. The SSA-BP prediction model is suitable for the rapid and accurate prediction of the deformation of titanium alloy line heating forming. The intelligent prediction model provides data support for intelligent decisions for titanium alloy forming.

Using numerical software to establish a three-dimensional geological model of shield tunneling through fault fracture zones, considering the synchronous grouting effect at the shield tail, the disturbance of various geotechnical structures in the fault fracture zone under deep burial and high water pressure conditions is studied. According to the comparison between the numerical model analysis results and the on-site inspection results of the entire process of Shiziyang B3 section, synchronous grouting at the shield tail is the main reason for the changes in soil and water pressure in the fault fracture zone area. The soil and water pressure changes strongly during shield tunneling, and the maximum excess pore pressure value occurs when the shield tail passes. When the shield tunneling machine is far away, the soil and water stress shows a downward trend. The impact of synchronous grouting decreases with the increase in tunneling distance. Due to the difference in permeability, the variation law of pore pressure in the fault fracture zone is significantly different from the original rock, leading to a faster increase in pore pressure in the fracture zone area and a wider range of influence.

Aerobic composting is an effective method of resource treatment for agricultural and forestry solid waste; however, while wheat straw is usually used as a conditioner and is not the main body as in aerobic composting, wheat straw is abundant in annual production, and fertilization is one of the main ways of resource utilization of wheat straw, how to use wheat straw as the main body of aerobic composting for efficient treatment is, therefore, a meaningful research direction. In this paper, to achieve the efficient and economic resource utilization of wheat straw and livestock manure, aerobic composting was carried out with wheat straw as the main body, and pig manure and cow manure were mixed with wheat straw crops at ratios of 20%, 30%, and 40%, respectively, for barrel suspension composting. The changes in pH, EC, NH4+-N, NO3−-N, TN, TP, organic matter and seed germination index, and shoot length inhibition rate before and after composting were compared between treatment groups using different material ratios in the aerobic composting process. The changes in the physicochemical properties and nutrient elements of compost products were studied. The results show that the co-composting of livestock manure and wheat straw can promote the decomposition of the pile, and the addition of 40% cow manure and 30% pig manure has the best effect in promoting decay. In contrast, the addition of excessive pig manure inhibits the decomposition of the pile. Organic matter degradation in the treatment groups using cow manure was more effective than in those using pig manure, and the best results were obtained with 40% cow manure. The pile was alkaline at the end of each treatment, and the wheat straw compost treated with 40% cow manure had the best nitrogen and phosphorus retention. The wheat straw compost treated with 40% cow manure had the highest integrated degree of decomposition, which promoted the deterioration of the pile and provided a research basis for the use of wheat straw as an efficient resource.

WC-based cemented carbides were prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS) of WC-Co-Cr3C2-VC alloy powder by adding different contents of graphene. The phase composition, microstructure, mechanical properties, and magnetic properties of cemented carbide were investigated by means of XRD, SEM, Vickers hardness and fracture toughness tests, and magnetic properties tests. The results showed that the mechanical properties of the specimens show a trend of first increasing and then decreasing with the increase in graphene content. After adding 0.6 wt.% graphene, graphene is uniformly distributed on the substrate in the form of flakes, WC grain size decreases, the hardness of the specimen increases to 2009 HV, the relative density increases to 94.3%, the fracture toughness is 11.72 MPa·m1/2, and the coercivity of the sample is 437.55 Oe. Therefore, cemented carbide with a graphene content of 0.6 wt.% has excellent comprehensive performance (Vickers hardness and fracture toughness).

Uniform and stable droplet generation is critical for accurate and efficient digital nucleic acid analysis (dNAA). In this study, an integrated microfluidic step emulsification device with wide-range droplet generation capability, small device dimensions, convenient fabrication strategy, low contamination and high robustness was developed. A tree-shaped droplet generation nozzle distribution design was proposed to increase the uniformity of droplet generation by equating flow rates, and the flow field in the design was numerically simulated. Theoretical analysis and comparative experiments on droplet size were performed regarding the influences of nozzle dimensions and surface properties. With incubation and hydrophobic reagent treatment, droplets as small as 73.1 μm were generated with multiplex nozzles of 18 μm (h) × 80 μm (w). The droplets were then collected into a standard PCR tube and an on-chip monolayer droplet collection chamber, without manual transfer and sample contamination. The oil-to-sample volume ratio in the PCR tube was recorded during collection. In the end, the droplets generated and collected using the microfluidic device proved to be stable and uniform for nucleic acid amplification and detection. This study provides reliable characteristic information for the design and fabrication of a micro-droplet generation device, and represents a promising approach for the realization of a three-in-one dNAA device under a step emulsification method.

The application of high-strength steel plates can reduce ship weight, and the saddle plate is one of the most common types of double-curved hull plates. To fill the research gap regarding high-strength steel saddle plates, two prediction models are established here to predict deformation in saddle plate forming. Deflection is a key parameter reflecting the overall deformation of a curved plate. Therefore, first of all, the influencing factors of the line heating of high-strength steel saddle plates were analyzed. The influence of plate geometric parameters and forming parameters on deflection was researched. Second, a multiple linear regression model between deflection and the geometric parameters and forming parameters of high-strength steel saddle plates was established. Finally, to solve the problem of a large error in the multivariate regression model for extrapolation, an intelligent prediction program for deflection based on a support vector machine (SVM) was developed using the Python language. The results show that the error of the multiple regression model was less than 5% for data interpolation. The error of the intelligent prediction model for deflection was less than 5% for data extrapolation. This research can provide data support for the automatic forming of marine saddle plates.

Solar desalination of seawater is an effective approach to address the scarcity of freshwater resources. For solar steam generation, it is critical to design biodegradable, sustainable, low-cost, and high-evaporation-rate technology. This study aims to develop a novel solar desalination technology by designing and fabricating a nanocomposite material with excellent light absorption and thermal conversion properties. We designed a double-layer aerogel structure, which uses naturally abundant carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as the basic skeleton to achieve sustainability and biodegradability, and uses carbon nanotubes as the photothermal material for efficient light absorption to prepare a ferric tannate/carbon nanotube/carboxymethyl cellulose composite aerogel (FT-CNT-CMC aerogel). Experimental results demonstrate that the FT-CNT-CMC aerogel exhibits a high light absorption rate of 96–98% within the spectral range of 250–2400 nm, showcasing remarkable photothermal conversion performance. Under a sun intensity of 1 kW·m−2, the FT-CNT-CMC aerogel achieves a significant evaporation rate of 1.942 kg·m−2·h−1 at room temperature. Moreover, the excellent performance of the FT-CNT-CMC aerogel is validated in practical seawater desalination and organic dye wastewater purification. The FT-CNT-CMC aerogel exhibits a retention rate exceeding 99% for Na+, Mg2+, K+, and Ca2+ ions in simulated seawater, while no characteristic absorption peaks are observed in methylene blue and rhodamine B dye solutions after purification. These findings highlight the promising potential of the FT-CNT-CMC aerogel in the field of novel solar desalination, providing a viable solution to obtain freshwater.

With the demand for construction of lightweight ships and polar ships, high-strength steel is increasingly applied in shipbuilding. There are a large number of complex curved plates to be processed in ship construction. The main method for forming a complex curved plate is line heating. A saddle plate is an important type of double-curved plate, which affects the resistance performance of the ship. The existing research on high-strength-steel saddle plates is lacking. To solve the problem of forming for high-strength-steel saddle plates, the numerical calculation of line heating for a EH36 steel saddle plate was studied. By combining it with a line heating experiment of low-carbon-steel saddle plates, the feasibility of numerical calculation based on the thermal elastic–plastic theory for high-strength-steel saddle plates was verified. Under the premise that the processing conditions such as the material parameters, heat transfer parameters, and the constraint mode of the plate were correctly designed, the effects of the influencing factors on deformation of the saddle plate could be studied by the numerical calculation method. The numerical calculation model of line heating for high-strength-steel saddle plates was established, and the effects of geometric parameters and forming parameters on shrinkage and deflection were studied. This research can provide ideas for the lightweight construction of ships and provide data support for automatic processing of curved plates. It can also provide inspiration for curved plate forming in fields such as aerospace manufacturing, the automotive industry, and architecture.

This paper focuses on moving-target detection and tracking in a three-dimensional (3D) space, and proposes a visual target tracking system only using a two-dimensional (2D) camera. To quickly detect moving targets, an improved optical flow method with detailed modifications in the pyramid, warping, and cost volume network (PWC-Net) is applied. Meanwhile, a clustering algorithm is used to accurately extract the moving target from a noisy background. Then, the target position is estimated using a proposed geometrical pinhole imaging algorithm and cubature Kalman filter (CKF). Specifically, the camera’s installation position and inner parameters are applied to calculate the azimuth, elevation angles, and depth of the target while only using 2D measurements. The proposed geometrical solution has a simple structure and fast computational speed. Different simulations and experiments verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Different types of subsidence lakes formed by underground coal mining are severely polluted by mine-production wastewater, domestic sewage, and agricultural irrigation water. Microbial communities perform a crucial role in biogeochemical cycling processes and responses to natural and anthropogenic disturbances in lake waters. Therefore, it is important to investigate the characteristics of microbial community diversity in subsidence lakes for the utilization of water resources in mining areas. In this study, we collected water samples from open and closed subsidence lakes and explored the bacterial communities based on Illumina amplicon high-throughput sequencing. Results showed that bacterial diversity and community and functional composition in open and closed lakes differed greatly, and the bacterial diversity in open lakes was significantly higher than that in closed lakes (p < 0.001). Canonical correspondence analysis found that pH explained 31.73% and 39.98% of the variation in the bacterial community and functional composition in closed lakes, while NH4+ and COD accounted for 29.73% and 26.02% of the changes in the community and functional composition in open lakes, respectively. Modified stochasticity ratios based on null-model analysis demonstrated that stochastic processes were the main factor affecting bacterial community assembly in both closed (MST = 0.58) and open lakes (MST = 0.63). In the closed-lake network, hgcI_clade was inferred to be a keystone species, while Lactococcus, Acinetobacter, Psychrobacter, and Chryseobacterium were detected as keystone species in the open-lake network. By way of discussion, we provide evidence regarding the bacterial community diversity, structure, co-occurrence patterns, and assembly processes in closed and open subsidence lakes. This study contributes to providing a reference for the utilization of subsidence water resources.

To solve the problem that the lack of reference for hull plate division leads to the difficulty and low efficiency of curved plate forming, the forming difficulty evaluation of complex curved hull plates is researched. Considering the characteristics in curved plate forming process, the forming difficulty evaluation model of complex curved hull plates based on grey relational analysis is established. The evaluation process of forming difficulty for curved plates is designed. The influence law of parameters and forming parameters on the forming difficulty of curved plates are revealed. The weight coefficients of different influencing factors on the forming difficulty of curved plates are quantified. Taking the real hull plate of a container ship as an example, the evaluation results for the forming difficulty of curved plates are calculated based on the evaluation model. The rationality of the evaluation model is verified by comparing the evaluation results of curved plate forming and the process time data. The research can provide a reference for the reasonable division of hull plates and reduce the forming difficulty of curved plates.

Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide, and chemotherapy is still a standard strategy for treating patients with advanced GC. Lipid metabolism has been reported to play an important role in the carcinogenesis and development of GC. However, the potential values of lipid-metabolism-related genes (LMRGs) concerning prognostic value and the prediction of chemotherapy responsiveness in GC remains unclear. A total of 714 stomach adenocarcinoma patients were enrolled from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Using univariate Cox and LASSO regression analyses, we developed a risk signature based on LMRGs that can distinguish high-GC-risk patients from low-risk patients with significant differences in overall survival. We further validated this signature prognostic value using the GEO database. The R package “pRRophetic” was applied to calculate the sensitivity of each sample from high- and low-risk groups to chemotherapy drugs. The expression of two LMRGs, AGT and ENPP7, can predict the prognosis and response to chemotherapy in GC. Furthermore, AGT significantly promoted GC growth and migration, and the downregulation of AGT enhanced the chemotherapy response of GC both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, AGT induced significant levels of epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) through the PI3K/AKT pathway. The PI3K/AKT pathway agonist 740 Y-P can restore the EMT of GC cells impaired by AGT knockdown and treatment with 5-fluorouracil. Our findings suggest that AGT plays a key role in the development of GC, and targeting AGT may help to improve the chemotherapy response of GC patients.

Two-dimensional materials-based field-effect transistors (FETs) are promising biosensors because of their outstanding electrical properties, tunable band gap, high specific surface area, label-free detection, and potential miniaturization for portable diagnostic products. However, it is crucial for FET biosensors to have a high electrical performance and stability degradation in liquid environments for their practical application. Here, a high-performance InSe-FET biosensor is developed and demonstrated for the detection of the CA125 biomarker in clinical samples. The InSe-FET is integrated with a homemade microfluidic channel, exhibiting good electrical stability during the liquid channel process because of the passivation effect on the InSe channel. The InSe-FET biosensor is capable of the quantitative detection of the CA125 biomarker in breast cancer in the range of 0.01–1000 U/mL, with a detection time of 20 min. This work provides a universal detection tool for protein biomarker sensing. The detection results of the clinical samples demonstrate its promising application in early screenings of major diseases.

To improve the properties of fluororubber (FKM), aminated carbon nanotubes (CNTs-NH2) and acidified carbon nanotubes (CNTs-COOH) were introduced to modulate the interfacial interactions in FKM composites. The effects of chemical binding and F–H polar interactions between CNTs-NH2, CNTs-COOH, and FKM on the mechanical, electrical, thermal, and wear properties of the FKM composites were systematically investigated. Compared to the pristine FKM, the tensile strength, modulus at 100% strain, hardness, thermal conductivity, carbon residue rate, and electrical conductivity of CNTs-NH2/CNTs-COOH/FKM were increased by 112.2%, 587.5%, 44.2%, 37.0%, 293.5%, and nine orders of magnitude, respectively. In addition, the wear volume of CNTs-NH2/CNTs-COOH/FKM was reduced by 29.9%. This method provides a new and effective way to develop and design high-performance fluororubber composites.

The group velocity of lightning electromagnetic signals plays an important role in lightning location systems using the time difference of arrival (TDOA) method. Accurate estimation of group velocity is difficult due to the space- and time-varying properties of the Earth-ionosphere waveguide. Besides, the analytical solution of the group velocity is difficult to obtain from the classic mode theory, especially when higher-order modes, anisotropic geomagnetic background, diffuse ionosphere profile, and propagation path segmentation are all taken into consideration. To overcome these challenges, a novel numerical method is proposed in this paper to estimate the group velocity of the lightning signal during ionospheric quiet periods. The well-known Long Wavelength Propagation Capability (LWPC) code is used to model the propagation of VLF/LF radio waves. Since LWPC uses a simplified ionospheric model which is unable to describe the subtle variations of ionospheric parameters over time and space, the IRI-2016 model is incorporated into the numerical modeling process to provide more accurate ionosphere parameters. Experimental results of a VLF/LF lightning location network are demonstrated and analyzed to show the effectiveness of our method. The proposed method is also applicable when there is a sudden ionospheric disturbance as long as the parameters of the ionosphere are obtained in real time by remote sensing methods.

Manganese dioxide is regarded as a promising energy functional material due to its open tunnel structure with enormous applications in energy storage and catalysis. In this paper, α-MnO2 with a 2 × 2 tunnel structure and β-MnO2 with a 1 × 1 tunnel structure were hydrothermally synthesized, which possess characteristic tunnel structures formed by the interconnected unit structure of [MnO6] octahedrons. With regards to their different tunnel dimensions, the specific mechanism of ion intercalation in these two phases and the effect on their performance as aqueous Zn-MnO2 battery cathodes are explored and compared. Comprehensive analyses illustrate that both α-MnO2 and β-MnO2 provide decent capacity in the aqueous battery system, but their intrinsic stability is poor due to the structural instability upon cycling. At the same time, experiments show that α-MnO2 has a better rate performance than β-MnO2 under larger currents, thus implying that the former has a broader application in this aqueous battery system.

The mixed structure of lath bainite and martensite was obtained by isothermal transformation tests at 698 K, 673 K and 623 K in ultra-high-strength steel. The interweaving mode of lath bainite and martensite was revealed by colored metallography and band contrast maps based on Gaussian fit. The crystallographic characteristics were analyzed in terms of variant pairing. The twin-related V1/V2 variant pairs were found in the region with high band contrast (BC) values, inferred as lath bainite. While in the low-BC value region, which was inferred as lath martensite, besides the dominated twin-related V1/V2 variant pair, V1/V4 variant pairs with low-angle grain boundaries were occasionally revealed. According to the classification by Takayama et al., both variant pairings of lath bainite and martensite in this work correspond to a type II mode. The present work has confirmed, even with complex microstructure, i.e., mixed lath bainite and martensite were formed depending on the processing route, bainite and martensite still follow their own rules of variant pairing.

In close-range or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) photogrammetry, Schneider concentric circular coded targets (SCTs), which are public, are widely used for image matching and as ground control points. GSI point-distributed coded targets (GCTs), which are only mainly applied in a video-simultaneous triangulation and resection system (V-STARS), are non-public and rarely applied in UAV photogrammetry. In this paper, we present our innovative detailed solution to identify GCTs. First, we analyze the structure of a GCT. Then, a special 2D P2-invariant of five coplanar points derived from cross ratios is adopted in template point registration and identification. Finally, the affine transformation is used for decoding. Experiments indoors—including different viewing angles ranging from 0° to 80° based on 6 mm-diameter GCTs, smaller 3 mm-diameter GCTs, and different sizes mixed—and outdoors with challenging scenes were carried out. Compared with V-STARS, the results show that the proposed method can preserve the robustness and achieves a high accuracy rate in identification when the viewing angle is not larger than 65° through indoor experiments, and the proposed method can achieve approximate or slightly weaker effectiveness than V-STARS on the whole. Finally, we attempted to extend and apply the designed GCTs in UAV photogrammetry for a preliminary experiment. This paper demonstrates that GCTs can be designed, printed, and identified easily through our method. It is expected that the proposed method may be helpful when applied to image matching, camera calibration, camera orientation, or 3D measurements or serving as control points in UAV photogrammetry for scenarios with complex structures in the future.

Aiming at the low efficiency of manual measurement of threads and the lack of practicability in machine vision measurement before, online size measurement of threads at the end of sucker rods based on machine vision was studied. A robotic arm is used to carry an optical device to achieve high-quality image acquisition of threads. Based on the prior knowledge of the thread profile angle, the directional edge detection operator is customized to achieve the accurate detection of the left and right edges of the thread. Noise filtering, sorting, and left and right edge-matching algorithms based on connected domains are developed to eliminate the interference effects of electrostatic dust and oil pollution in online measurement, and the dimension of thread profile angles, pitches, major diameters, and minor diameters can be precisely calculated. The experimental results show that the screw thread parameter measurement time is about 0.13 s; the maximum and minimum average errors of the thread angles are 0.011° and 0.632°, respectively; and the total average deviation is less than 0.08°. For the screw thread pitch, major diameter, minor diameter, and pitch diameter parameter measurement, the deviation of the measurement results between the proposed method and the universal tool microscope (UTM) method is less than 10 μm. It fully proves the effectiveness and accuracy of the method in this paper and, at the same time, shows that the method has good real-time performance and high application significance, which lays a good foundation for the subsequent online thread measurement.

Endowing epoxy resin (EP) with prospective liquid oxygen compatibility (LOC) as well as enhanced ultra-low-temperature mechanical properties is urgently required in order to broaden its applications in aerospace engineering. In this study, a reactive phosphorus/nitrogen-containing aromatic ethylenediamine (BSEA) was introduced as a reactive component to enhance the LOC and ultra-low-temperature mechanical properties of an EP/biscitraconimide resin (BCI) system. The resultant EP thermosets showed no sensitivity reactions in the 98J liquid oxygen impact test (LOT) when the BSEA content reached 4 wt% or 5 wt%, indicating that they were compatible with liquid oxygen. Moreover, the bending properties, fracture toughness and impact strength of BSEA-modified EP were greatly enhanced at RT and cryogenic temperatures (77 K) at an appropriate level of BSEA content. The bending strength (251.64 MPa) increased by 113.67%, the fracture toughness (2.97 MPa·m1/2) increased by 81.10%, and the impact strength (31.85 kJ·m−2) increased by 128.81% compared with that of pure EP at 77 K. All the above results demonstrate that the BSEA exhibits broad application potential in liquid oxygen tanks and in the cryogenic field.

Drift detection is one of the important detection modes in a digital ionosonde system. In this paper, a new data processing method is presented for boosting the automatic and high-quality drift measurement, which is helpful for long-term ionospheric observation, and has been successfully applied to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Digital Ionosonde (CAS-DIS). Based on Doppler interferometry principle, this method can be successively divided into four constraint steps: extracting the stable echo data; restricting the ionospheric detection region; extracting the reliable reflection cluster, including Doppler filtering and coarse clustering analysis; and calculating the drift velocity. Ordinary wave (O-wave) data extraction, complementary code pulse compression and other data preprocessing techniques are used to improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of echo data. For the purpose of eliminating multiple echoes, the ionospheric region is determined by combining the optimal height range and detection frequencies obtained from the ionogram. Successively, Doppler filtering and coarse clustering analysis extract reliable reflection clusters. Finally, the weighting factor is brought in, and then weighted least-squares (WLS) is used to fit the drift velocity. The entire data processing process can be implemented automatically without constantly changing parameter settings due to changes in external conditions. This is the first time coarse clustering analysis has been used to extract the paracentral reflection cluster to eliminate scattered reflection points and outer reflection clusters, which further reduces the impacts of external conditions on parameter settings and improves the ability of automatic drift measurement. Compared with the previous method possessed by Digisonde Protable Sounder 4D (DPS4D), the new method can achieve comparable drift detection precision and results even with fewer reflection points. In 2021–2022, several experiments on F region drift detection were carried out in Hainan, China. Results indicate that drift velocities fitted by the new method have diurnal variation and change more gently; the trends of drift velocities fitted by the new method and the previous method are semblable; and this new method can be widely applied to digital ionosondes.

A pile–net enclosure aquaculture facility, deployed in inshore waters, is a sustainable and ecological aquaculture pattern for rearing fish and other aquatic animals of economic value in China. It is essential to study the maximum force on and deformation of the net system of a pile–net enclosure facility to prevent its failure, since successful aquaculture is highly dependent on the longevity of the net system. In this study, a pile-net enclosure aquaculture facility with a gapped pile-net configuration was numerically investigated based on the lumped mass model. A Newton’s second-law-based motion equation was solved using Euler’s method. Finally, MATLAB was used to visualize the results. The results highlight that the force of a net system significantly increases with ocean loads, and the load of the entire net is mainly from the top half of the net. Moreover, the maximum force of the vertical rope occurs at the connection of the top channel steel. The maximum force of the horizontal rope and net twine occur in the rope near the still-water level and at the connection of the top channel steel, respectively. Thus, the net at those positions should be reinforced to prevent its failure.

Land subsidence caused by underground coal mining critically influences the structure and function of ecosystems in mining areas. However, knowledge on the aquatic bacterial community structure and interspecies interactions in subsidence lakes are still limited. To address this issue, we collected water samples from a coal mining subsidence lake and its connected river and investigated the spatial distribution and co-occurrence patterns of the bacterial community using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing. The results revealed that the bacterial α-diversity in the subsidence lake was higher than that in the river. The bacterial community composition was also significantly different between the subsidence lake and its connected river. Total nitrogen explained 21.4% of the bacterial community composition variation, while sulfate explained 38.4% of the bacterial functional composition variation. Co-occurrence network analysis indicated that the modularity indices and stability of the microbial network in the subsidence lake were significantly higher than those in rivers, which presented more resistance to environmental disturbance. Keystone bacterial taxa in the subsidence lake and river included the Clostridiaceae 1 family, and the Shewanella, Flavobacterium, and Limnohabitans genera, which play vital roles in the carbon, sulfur, and nitrogen cycles. Moreover, functional analysis showed that assimilatory sulfate reduction processes had a major role in the sulfur cycle of the subsidence lake and its connected river ecosystem. Overall, our findings provide new insights into the microbial community structure and assembly in subsidence lakes and its connected river ecosystems, with significant implications for the responsible utilization of water resources and the promotion of sustainable development in mining areas.

In this paper, to enhance the toughness and heat resistance properties of polylactic acid (PLA)/polybutylene succinate (PBS) composites, the PLA/PBS matrix was modified by different glass fiber (GF), GF/SiO2, and GF/(Polyaluminium chloride) PAC fillers. Additionally, the effect of filler type, filler content, components interaction and composite structure on the mechanical and thermal properties of the PLA/PBS composites was researched. The results showed that the addition of GF, GF/SiO2 and GF/PAC make the PLA/PBS composites appear significantly higher mechanical properties compared with the pristine PLA/PBS composite. Among the different inorganic fillers, the 10%GF/1%SiO2 fillers showed excellent strengthening, toughening and heat resistant effects. Compared with the pristine PLA/PBS matrix, the tensile strength, elastic modulus, flexural strength, flexural modulus and Izod impact strength improved by 36.28%, 70.74%, 67.95%, 66.61% and 135.68%, respectively. Considering the above, when the weight loss rate was 50%, the thermal decomposition temperature of the 10%GF/1%SiO2 modified PLA/PBS composites was the highest 412.83 °C and its Vicat softening point was up to 116.8 °C. In a word, the 10%GF/1%SiO2 reinforced PLA/PBS composites exhibit excellent mechanical and thermal properties, which broadens the application of biodegradable materials in specific scenarios.

Structural health and construction security are important problems in civil engineering. Regular infrastructure inspection and monitoring methods are mostly performed manually. Early automatic structural health monitoring techniques were mostly based on contact sensors, which usually are difficult to maintain in complex infrastructure environments. Therefore, non-contact infrastructure inspection and monitoring techniques received increasing interest in recent years, and they are widely used in all aspects of infrastructure life, owing to their convenience and non-destructive properties. This paper provides an overview of vision-based inspection and vision–laser-based monitoring techniques and applications. The inspection part includes image-processing algorithms, object detection, and semantic segmentation. In particular, infrastructure monitoring involves not only visual technologies but also different fusion methods of vision and lasers. Furthermore, the most important challenges for future automatic non-contact inspections and monitoring are discussed and the paper correspondingly concludes with state-of-the-art algorithms and applications to resolve these challenges.

The enormous amount of data that are generated by hyperspectral remote sensing images (HSI) combined with the spatial channel’s limited and fragile bandwidth creates serious transmission, storage, and application challenges. HSI reconstruction based on compressed sensing has become a frontier area, and its effectiveness depends heavily on the exploitation and sparse representation of HSI information correlation. In this paper, we propose a low-rank sparse constrained HSI reconstruction model (LRCoSM) that is based on joint spatial-spectral HSI sparseness. In the spectral dimension, a spectral domain sparsity measure and the representation of the joint spectral dimensional plane are proposed for the first time. A Gaussian mixture model (GMM) that is based on unsupervised adaptive parameter learning of external datasets is used to cluster similar patches of joint spectral plane features, capturing the correlation of HSI spectral dimensional non-local structure image patches while performing low-rank decomposition of clustered similar patches to extract feature information, effectively improving the ability of low-rank approximate sparse representation of spectral dimensional similar patches. In the spatial dimension, local-nonlocal HSI similarity is explored to refine sparse prior constraints. Spectral and spatial dimension sparse constraints improve HSI reconstruction quality. Experimental results that are based on various sampling rates on four publicly available datasets show that the proposed algorithm can obtain high-quality reconstructed PSNR and FSIM values and effectively maintain the spectral curves for few-band datasets compared with six currently popular reconstruction algorithms, and the proposed algorithm has strong robustness and generalization ability at different sampling rates and on other datasets.

At present, there is a problem that the measurement accuracy and measurement range cannot be balanced in the measurement of shaft diameter by the machine vision method. In this paper, we propose a large-scale shaft diameter precision measurement method based on a dual camera measurement system. The unified world coordinate system of the two cameras is established by analyzing the dual camera imaging model and obtaining the measurement formula. In order to verify the validity of the proposed method, two black blocks in the calibration plate with a known center distance of 100 mm were measured. The mean value was 100.001 mm and the standard deviation was 0.00039 in 10 measurements. Finally, the proposed system was applied to the diameter measurement of a complexed crankshaft. The mean μ95 values of CMM and the proposed method were ±1.02 μm and ±1.07 μm, respectively, indicating that the measurement accuracy of the proposed method is roughly equal to the CMM.

Developing new coating modification technology of aluminum nitride (AlN) powder for higher hydrolysis resistance is the key to prepare high-performance AlN ceramic substrate with water-based wet process in the future. In the this paper, The poly(vinyl pyrrolidone)-b-poly(Styrene/Itaconic anhydride) (PVP-b-P(St/ITA))block copolymer with PVP as the independent chain segment was designed and synthesized through reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization, which was used for the study on coating modification, hydrolysis resistance, and dispersion performance of AIN powder. The study results show that, when using PVP macromolecular chain transfer agent (PVP-CTA) for the RAFT chain extension and polymerization in St/ITA binary system, the molecular weight increases linearly and the molecular weight distribution tends to decrease with the monomer conversion rate, which is in line with the activity-controlled characteristics of RAFT polymerization. The copolymer PVP-b-P(St/ITA) was used to for surface modification treatment of submicron AlN powder to generate esterification reaction, which was absorbed and bound to the powder surface. Hydrolysis resistance and dispersion experiments were conducted for modified powder, and the crystal phase and micro structure of modified powder were analyzed and observed through XRD, SEM, and TEM. It was found that copolymer modification had no effect on the powder crystal phase. A 8–21 nm passivation layer was coated on the surface, which can exist stably for 10 h in 60 °C water. Zeta potential and laser particle analyzer tests showed that modified powder featured excellent water-based slurry dispersion performance, and certain self-dispersing characteristics. The highest Zeta potential appeared in pH 6~7, and the particle granularity was distributed uniformly with the median particle diameter of 875 nm. The powder hydrolysis resistance and dispersion performance are significantly improved.

Given the in-depth advancement of the “Belt and Road” initiative, cooperation among countries along the initiative is increasing. The strategic maritime transport passage is closely related to the interests of relevant countries. The games between countries along important transport passages in terms of the pursuit of geopolitical rights and interests occur frequently. This paper establishes an evolutionary game model of the strategic maritime transport passages taking the Strait of Hormuz as an example and explores the game of the countries on both sides of the strait. By analysing their behaviour and possible strategies, the evolutionary stable strategy for each country is obtained. Recommendations are made to aid with the relevant rights and interests of related countries.

Ti-6Al-4V is widely used in various fields of modern industry, but it is difficult to obtain an ultra-smooth surface of Ti-6Al-4V due to its poor machinability. In this article, ultraviolet-induced (UV-induced) nanoparticle colloid jet machining was utilized to carry out ultra-precision polishing of Ti-6Al-4V to improve the surface quality. The results of infrared differential spectroscopy before and after polishing show that new chemical bonds such as Ti-O-Ti (Al-O-Ti and V-O-Ti) appear on the Ti-6Al-4V workpiece surface, which indicates that the material of Ti-6Al-4V workpiece is removed through the chemical interaction between TiO2 nanoparticles and workpiece surface in the process of UV-induced nanoparticle colloid jet machining. The comparison of metallographic structure of Ti-6Al-4V before and after polishing shows that the chemical activity and material removal rate of the primary α phase in Ti-6Al-4V is higher than that of the remnant β phase in UV-induced nanoparticle colloid jet machining, which lead to the well-distributed nano-scale surface peaks and valleys at regular intervals on the polished Ti-6Al-4V workpiece surface. After polishing, the longitudinal residual stress on the surface of Ti-6Al-4V workpiece decreases from 75 MPa to 67 MPa and the transverse stress decreases from 13 MPa to 3 MPa. The surface roughness of Ti-6Al-4V workpiece is reduced from Sa 76.7 nm to Sa 2.87 nm by UV-induced nanoparticle colloid jet machining.

Poly(methyl acrylate)-b-poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone/maleic anhydride/styrene) (PMA-b-P (NVP/MAH/St)) quaternary amphiphilic block copolymer prepared by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) was used to improve the anti-hydrolysis and dispersion properties of aluminum nitride (AIN) powders that were modified by copolymers. Its structure was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Hydrogen nuclear magnetic spectroscopy (1H-NMR). The results demonstrate that the molecular weight distribution of the quaternary amphiphilic block copolymers is 1.35–1.60, which is characteristic of controlled molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution. Through charge transfer complexes, NVP/MAH/St produces a regular alternating arrangement structure. After being treated with micro-crosslinking, AlN powder modified by copolymer PMA-b-P(NVP/MAH/St) exhibits outstanding resistance to hydrolysis and can be stabilized in hot water at 50 °C for more than 14 h, and the agglomeration of powder particles was improved remarkably.

The coalgebraic method is of great significance to research in process algebra, modal logic, object-oriented design and component-based software engineering. In recent years, fuzzy control has been widely used in many fields, such as handwriting recognition and the control of robots or air conditioners. It is then an interesting topic to analyze the behavior of fuzzy automata from a coalgebraic point of view. This paper models different types of fuzzy automata as coalgebras with a monad structure capturing fuzzy behavior. Based on the coalgebraic models, we can define a notion of fuzzy language and consider several versions of bisimulation for fuzzy automata. A group of combinators is defined to compose fuzzy automata of two branches: state transition and output function. A case study illustrates the coalgebraic models proposed and their composition.

The health condition monitoring of rotating machinery can avoid the disastrous failure and guarantee the safe operation. The vibration-based fault diagnosis shows the most attractive character for fault diagnosis of rotating machinery (FDRM). Recently, Lempel-Ziv complexity (LZC) has been investigated as an effective tool for FDRM. However, the LZC only performs single-scale analysis, which is not suitable to extract the fault features embedded in vibrational signal over multiple scales. In this paper, a novel complexity analysis algorithm, called hierarchical Lempel-Ziv complexity (HLZC), was developed to extract the fault characteristics of rotating machinery. The proposed HLZC method considers the fault information hidden in both low-frequency and high-frequency components, resulting in a more accurate fault feature extraction. The superiority of the proposed HLZC method in detecting the periodical impulses was validated by using simulated signals. Meanwhile, two experimental signals were utilized to prove the effectiveness of the proposed HLZC method in extracting fault information. Results show that the proposed HLZC method had the best diagnosing performance compared with LZC and multi-scale Lempel-Ziv complexity methods.

Through the first-principle calculations based on density functional theory and experimental investigation, the structural stability elastic properties and mechanical properties of Ti2Cu and Ti18Cu5Nb1 intermetallics were studied. The first-principle calculations showed that the ratio of bulk modulus to shear modulus (B/G) and Poisson’s ratio (ν) of Ti2Cu and Ti18Cu5Nb1 intermetallics were 2.03, 0.288, and 2.22, 0.304, respectively, indicating that the two intermetallics were ductile. This was confirmed by the compression tests, which showed that the plastic strain of both intermetallics was beyond 25%. In addition, the yield strength increased from the 416 to 710 MPa with the addition of Nb. The increase in strength is the result of three factors, namely covalent bond tendency, fine grain strengthening, and solid solution strengthening. This finding gives clues to design novel intermetallics with excellent mechanical properties by first-principle calculations and alloying.

The Finite-element method (FEM) and experiments were used to investigate the geometric factors and material parameter on the strain distribution during tube high-pressure shearing (t-HPS). The results show that t-HPS could be realized successfully either by pressurizing on both ends of the tube, or by pressurizing using the wedge effect; and in both cases, the “dead metal zone” could be found at both ends of the tube. The grain size distribution from the experiment confirmed this strain distribution feature. In the case of t-HPS pressurized using the wedge effect, the half cone angle has little effect on the strain distribution. Decreasing the strain-hardening exponent leads to increased deformation inhomogeneity in both the ideal t-HPS described by theoretical equations and the close to practical t-HPS described by FEM. This feature of t-HPS stands out from other SPD processes like HPT, and makes practical t-HPS behavior more predictable using the analytical formation than any other SPD processes, and places it an advantageous position in understanding the basics of deformation physics through the coupling between practical experiments and theoretical approaches.

The aim of this study was to develop a circuit for an inexpensive portable biosensing system based on surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy. This portable biosensing system designed for field use is characterized by a special structure which consists of a microfluidic cell incorporating a right angle prism functionalized with a biomolecular identification membrane, a laser line generator and a data acquisition circuit board. The data structure, data memory capacity and a line charge-coupled device (CCD) array with a driving circuit for collecting the photoelectric signals are intensively focused on and the high performance analog-to-digital (A/D) converter is comprehensively evaluated. The interface circuit and the photoelectric signal amplifier circuit are first studied to obtain the weak signals from the line CCD array in this experiment. Quantitative measurements for validating the sensitivity of the biosensing system were implemented using ethanol solutions of various concentrations indicated by volume fractions of 5%, 8%, 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30%, respectively, without a biomembrane immobilized on the surface of the SPR sensor. The experiments demonstrated that it is possible to detect a change in the refractive index of an ethanol solution with a sensitivity of 4.99838 × 105 ΔRU/RI in terms of the changes in delta response unit with refractive index using this SPR biosensing system, whereby the theoretical limit of detection of 3.3537 × 10−5 refractive index unit (RIU) and a high linearity at the correlation coefficient of 0.98065. The results obtained from a series of tests confirmed the practicality of this cost-effective portable SPR biosensing system.

Edible gelatin has been widely used as a food additive in the food industry, and illegal adulteration with industrial gelatin will cause serious harm to human health. The present work used laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) coupled with the partial least square−support vector machine (PLS-SVM) method for the fast and accurate estimation of edible gelatin adulteration. Gelatin samples with 11 different adulteration ratios were prepared by mixing pure edible gelatin with industrial gelatin, and the LIBS spectra were recorded to analyze their elemental composition differences. The PLS, SVM, and PLS-SVM models were separately built for the prediction of gelatin adulteration ratios, and the hybrid PLS-SVM model yielded a better performance than only the PLS and SVM models. Besides, four different variable selection methods, including competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS), Monte Carlo uninformative variable elimination (MC-UVE), random frog (RF), and principal component analysis (PCA), were adopted to combine with the SVM model for comparative study; the results further demonstrated that the PLS-SVM model was superior to the other SVM models. This study reveals that the hybrid PLS-SVM model, with the advantages of low computational time and high prediction accuracy, can be employed as a preferred method for the accurate estimation of edible gelatin adulteration.

A highly sensitive immunoassay of biomarkers has been achieved using 4-mercaptobenzoic acid-labeled Ag@Au core–shell porous nanocage tags and α-fetoprotein immuno-sensing chips. The Ag@Au porous nanocages were uniquely synthesized by using an Ag core as a self-sacrificial template and reducing agent, where the slow reaction process led to the formation of a porous Au layer. The size of the remaining Ag core and surface roughness of the Au shell were controlled by adjusting the chloroauric acid concentration. The porous cage exhibited excellent surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) activity, presumably due to a synergetic interaction between newly generated hot spots in the rough Au shell and the retained SERS activity of the Ag core. Using α-fetoprotein as a model analyte for immunoassay, the SERS signal had a wide linear range of 0.20 ng mL−1 to 500.0 ng mL−1 with a detection limit of 0.12 ng mL−1. Without the need of further signal amplification, the as-prepared Ag@Au bimetallic nanocages can be directly used for highly sensitive SERS assays of other biomarkers in biomedical research, diagnostics, etc.

Chromium carbide nanopowders were synthesized by mechanical alloying-assisted microwave heating. The effect of gamma irradiation on phase composition and microstructure of chromium carbide nanopowders synthesized by the microwave heating method was analyzed. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) techniques. The results showed that well-dispersed chromium carbide nanopowders can be synthesized by maintaining the temperature at 1000 °C for 1 h. Gamma ray irradiation had an important effect on the microstructure of chromium carbide nanopowders. The interplanar spacings of chromium carbide (110) crystal faces before and after gamma ray irradiation were 0.3725 nm and 0.3824 nm, respectively. The crystal structure of chromium carbide was changed by gamma ray irradiation. Gamma ray irradiation can also increase the binding energy of chromium carbide, which is beneficial to improve the thermal stability and mechanical properties of chromium carbide at high temperature.

Corn stalk lodging is caused by different factors, including severe wind storms, stalk cannibalization, and stalk rots, and it leads to yield loss. Determining how to rapidly evaluate corn lodging resistance will assist scientists in the field of crop breeding to understand the contributing factors in managing the moisture, chemical fertilizer, and weather conditions for corn growing. This study proposes a non-destructive and direction-insensitive method, using a strain sensor and two single axis angle sensors to measure the corn stalk lodging resistance in the field. An equivalent force whose direction is perpendicular to the stalk is utilized to evaluate the corn lodging properties when a pull force is applied on the corn stalk. A novel measurement device is designed to obtain the equivalent force with the coefficient of variation (CV) of 4.85%. Five corn varieties with two different planting densities are arranged to conduct the experiment using the novel measurement device. The experimental results show that the maximum equivalent force could reach up to 44 N. A strong relationship with the square of the correlation coefficient of 0.88 was obtained between the maximum equivalent forces and the corn field’s stalk lodging rates. Moreover, the stalk lodging angles corresponding to the different pull forces over a measurement time of 20 s shift monotonically along the equivalent forces. Thus, the non-destructive and direction-insensitive method is an excellent tool for rapid analysis of stalk lodging resistance in corn, providing critical information on in-situ lodging dynamics.
