Se describen y analizan creencias acerca del uso del condón en jóvenes universitarios con o sin antecedentes de relaciones sexuales. Se aplicó una encuesta a 1 513 estudiantes, hombres y mujeres seleccionados al azar mediante muestreo probabilístico. Del total, 62% reportó haber tenido relaciones sexuales y 38% dijo que no. Las creencias sobre el uso del condón fueron asociadas con la pérdida del placer, las dificultades de uso y los estereotipos de género, más por los varones que por las mujeres. Se concluye que en estudiantes universitarios persisten creencias poco favorecedoras acerca del uso del condón aun cuando no hayan iniciado relaciones coitales. De no promover cambios, la tendencia se mantendrá con sus consecuentes riesgos., The study describes and analyzes beliefs about condom use among university students with/ without a history of sexual intercourse. A survey was applied to 1 513 students, men and women randomly selected by probabilistic sampling. Sixty two percent reported having ever had sex and 38% said no. Beliefs about condom use were associated with loss of pleasure, difficulties of use, and gender stereotypes, more by men than by women. It is concluded that in college students persist beliefs not conducive to condom use even if they have not initiated coital relationships and do not promote changes, the trend will remain with its consequent risks.

Attitudes of the adult population in Croatia on some of the issues in the field of marriage and sexuality are analysed in this paper. The aim was to explore the extent to which it is a dominantly Christian, specifically Catholic population in accordance with norms of traditional church morality in these issues, and if recent data show any changes in this respect. Based on previous research considering congruence with church moral norms in the field of sexuality and marriage, a general hypothesis on religious respondents as a heterogeneous group was set. This implies that a higher religiosity (observed through indicators of religious identification and practice) points to the lower permissiveness in attitudes toward sexuality and other issues in the area of marital relations. The paper used data from two studies: Social and Religious Change in Croatia (SRC) from 2004 and the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) module Religion from 2008/2009. The analysis showed that religious respondents are not a homogenous group, while an indicator of religious practice proved to be a consistent predictor of a greater chance that those respondents who regularly attend church for religious services are more traditional in attitudes about sexuality and marriage. However, the findings indicate the presence of a combination of traditional and modern values in the population of believers. In the context of socio-demographic and socio-structural correlates, younger respondents, better educated, males and those in urban areas show a greater permissiveness in the investigated attitudes.

Upon arrival to Europe, young migrants are found grappling with new language demands, cultural expectations, values, and beliefs that may differ from global youth culture and their country of origin. This process of coming-of-age while on-the-move is increasingly digitally mediated. Young migrants are "connected migrants", using smart phones and social media to maintain bonding ties with their home country while establishing new bridging relationships with peers in their country of arrival (Diminescu, 2008). Drawing on the feminist perspective of intersectionality which alerts us socio-cultural categories like age, race, nationality, migration status, gender and sexuality impact upon identification and subordination, we contend it is problematic to homogenize these experiences to all gay young adult migrants. The realities of settlement and integration starkly differ between desired migrants -such as elite expatriates and heterosexuals – and those living on the margins of Europe- forced migrants and lesbian, gay, trans, queer and intersex (LGBTQI) migrants. Drawing on 11 in-depth interviews conducted in Amsterdam, the Netherlands with gay young adult forced and voluntary migrants, this paper aims to understand how sexual identification in tandem with bonding and bridging social capital diverge and converge between the two groups all while considering the interplay between their online and offline entanglements of their worlds.

In this article, we look at colonialities of gender and sexuality as concepts employed in international aid and development. These international arenas reveal not only strong reiterations of modernist linear thinking and colonial continuities but also provide insights into the complexities of the implementation and vernacularisation of gender and sexuality in practices of development. Using a critical anthropological perspective, we discuss case studies based on our own research in Egypt and Bangladesh to illustrate the importance of unpacking exclusionary mechanisms of gender and sexuality scripts in the promotion of women’s rights and sexual and reproductive health and rights in postcolonial development contexts. We provide a conceptual analysis of decolonial feminist attempts at moving beyond the mere critique of development to enable a more inclusive conversation in the field of development. To work towards this goal, we argue, a critical anthropological approach proves promising in allowing a politically-sensitive, ethical, and critical engagement with the Other.

Prostitution seems to play a key role nowadays in academic and public debates about women's status in complex societies and the ways political discourses take into account sexualities. The aim of this article is to offer a survey of different manners of theorising prostitution. More precisely, it tends to free the subject of prostitution from a field imposed by a totalizing discourse driven by a medical gaze and oversaturated by ethical and dogmatic prejudices and to redeem its theoretical substance. We believe that this dialogue between traditional scholarly discrete disciplines on prostitution might open new perspectives on the democracy's assets and enrich the critical inquiry on gender and politics. Our view on this topic tries to debunk essentialist views inherited from the great narratives built up by political philosophy and bring the subject of prostitution to a critical condition, by exposing the discourses that shaped it.

This article situates lawsuits against Backpage.com in the context of changing laws and norms of sexual commerce and trafficking, and of evolving legal interpretations of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Section 230 has been used repeatedly to shield internet service providers such as Backpage.com from liability for content generated by third parties that has led to criminal harm to others; in this case, the trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation of minors. Moving to a critique of the law as at times grievously detached from the realities it addresses, I compare the legal strategies and decisions in three prominent cases brought against Backpage.com in St. Louis, Tacoma, and Boston, respectively. This critique identifies the evacuation of gendered bodies and the harm done to them from the court opinions as an example of what Robert Cover has called the "interpretive violence" of the law, and of the judges who interpret and dispense it. I conclude by calling for courts and Congress to act together to disrupt the accumulation of interpretive precedent favoring freedom of commerce and speech over the protection of bodies from harm.

Objective: To analyze the sexual behavior of elderly assisted on primary health care. Method: Transversal study, exploratory and quantitative. Results: The sample was comprised of 130 elderly people, these 60,8% were male, showing age between 60 and 92 years, with an average of 69 ± 7,04 years. With respect to the sexual profile, 63,1% elderly had active sex life, being more frequent among men with stable or married. With regard to sexual desire, 30% reported having no more desire for sexual practices, represented mostly by women and 12,3% maintained total desire, with most men. Among the sexually active seniors, 17% use some preventive method for sexually transmitted diseases. Conclusion: Highlights that there is a gradual decrease in the frequency of interest and sexual practices with age, reinforces the necessity of educational action of nurses in primary health care for the elderly.

Objective: To know the meaning assigned to sexuality for stomized women. Method: this is a qualitative study from the perspective of an oral history of life. a total of 10 women enrolled in the lineu araújo integrated health center in teresina-pi, in june 2012. Results: four categories emerged: the meaning of sexuality, the meaning of the experience of sexuality, the meaning of spousal support in the process of acceptance of the stoma and the meaning of being a woman and living with the stoma. sexuality has a plurality of meanings, which in turn are connected to various factors. Conclusion: through knowledge, we could complete and implement care actions that influenced the quality of life and assistance given to the stomized women.

Objective: This study aimed to describe the predisposing causes for pregnancy among adolescents and their knowledge on the prevention methods. Method: This is an exploratory, descriptive, and quantitative research carried out at basic health units in the town of Sao Caetano, Pernambuco, Brazil, in September and October 2011. For data collection, one used a semi-structured questionnaire applied to 42 adolescents enrolled for prenatal care. Results: The findings show that most adolescents was around 16 years of age, brown skinned, literate, and Catholic, lived with her partner, and had a low socioeconomic status. One's own wish (54,8%) stood out as the main cause for pregnancy in the population under study. Conclusion: One found out there's a need for investing on strategies for providing these female adolescents with guidance, so that contraceptive practices and the responsible exercise of sexuality start being realized as positive and usual behaviors.

Objective: To assess the knowledge of elderly participants in the Living Center for Senior Citizens on HIV / AIDS. Method: An exploratory and descriptive study with a qualitative approach, conducted through interviews with 17 elderly participants in the Living Center for Senior Citizens in Teresina-PI. The data analysis allowed us to establish three categories: knowledge of elderly HIV / AIDS; methods used by the elderly in the prevention of HIV / AIDS and health education in the prevention of HIV / AIDS. Results: The elderly hold little knowledge about HIV / AIDS, with an emphasis on prevention, transmission and susceptibility of contracting HIV at any stage of life. Few subjects reported on the use of an adequate method of prevention. Conclusion: We emphasize the importance of Health Education as a strategy to improve the knowledge of the elderly population about important aspects of HIV / AIDS, mainly with regard to the myths related to the mode of transmission.

Objective: To identify the adaptive problems of the psychosocial mode of the Roy model in chronic kidney patients on hemodialysis. Methods: Cross-sectional study with 178 patients from a dialysis center in the northeast of Brazil. Results: Three adaptive problems were identified, two of the self-concept: sexual dysfunction and low self-esteem; and one of the paper performance mode: paper failure. CONCLUSIONS: Adaptive flaws in the role, sexual dysfunction and low self-esteem refer to the presence of a conical disease and an invasive treatment, since these conditions directly affect the individual's lifestyle.

The essay problematizes the incorporation of LGBTI rights promotion into the US and EU foreign policies. First, the paper examines the two actors’ key documents, speeches, and policies devoted to the promotion of LGBTI rights abroad, the similarities and differences between the two actors’ approaches, attending to the tendencies of their evolution and the ongoing development. Second, the article discusses the internal conditions in target countries that are conducive to the success and failure of international support of LGBTI rights. Finally, the study makes a critical overview of the measures that are argued to be necessary to increase the efficiency of LGBTI rights promotion in countries with most negative current trends in and/or poorest records on LGBTI rights.

Objective: To describe and analyze the views of graduates from an institution of higher education on homosexuality. Method: A qualitative, descriptive study, carried out with 11 undergraduate students of courses in nursing and medicine, University Center of Health - UNINOVAFAPI, Teresina-PI. The interview was semi-structured, with a thematic content analysis. Results: Three categories emerged: homosexuality as sexual choice and question of gender; the bias imposed by society and holistic care without discrimination. The study shows that some undergraduates feel they are prepared to care for the homosexual clientele, using as a parameter, the lack of prejudice and the respect for others, points considered important in conducting a consultation. Conclusion: There is a need to invest in the training of teachers in the pursuit of articulated knowledge, capable of reducing the prejudices and prepare future health professionals to lead with this reality.

Objective: To identify the representation of the uterus for women who underwent hysterectomy and experience of sexuality in this period. Method: Qualitative survey conducted in October 2008 in a teaching hospital in southern Brazil, with five women hysterectomy. It was used as a tool to semi-structured interview. For data analysis we used the thematic content analysis. Results: For women the uterus was identified as an organ useless, having already played their reproductive role and its removal did not appear to interfere with the way they view their sexuality and femininity. Conclusions: Providing information to women who undergo hysterectomy may assist in understanding that this procedure does not interfere with female identity.

Objective: Characterizing and analyzing the socio-cultural profile of the women who have experienced sexual violence that were answered in a unit of reference linked to the Municipal Health and Civil Defense of Rio de Janeiro. Method: a descriptive, exploratory in the quantitative approach. Data were collected between November 2011 and March 2012 totaling in 157 records. Results: most women raped are young, white, unmarried, middle level education and has some form of financial income. Conclusion: the data corroborates the fact that sexual violence focus at all levels of education and in all social classes. Meeting the reality of these women is fundamental to a comprehensive and humanized assistance. The proposed deal must be formulated both from the socio-cultural characteristics of women, as a joint construction between professionals and clients.

Objective: analyzing the scientific production about sexuality in climacteric women. Method: an integrative review of bibliometric approach, held through consultation online, advanced and systematic, in the Virtual Health Library, using the technique of meta-searching. Results: the authors were linked to 20 institutions, 53,2% were doctors, 61,7% were doctorates. The country with the highest number of authors was Brazil. The issue most discussed was sexual function. Most publications were quantitative, occurred in 2008 and published in Brazilian Portuguese language. The level four of evidence was the most frequent. The Law enforcement of Bradford resulted in three areas of productivity. Conclusion: there is a need for more qualitative researches, especially in nursing, and studies with greater power of evidence, as well as more investment in other regions of Brazil.

Objective: Describe the sexual practices of beginner students of a Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Method: Exploratory and cross-sectional study which included 786 academics enrolled in courses of the health area. Results: 623 (79,3%) were female and the average age was 19.2 ± 3.1 years. 693 (88.2%) adolescents had started sexual life, of which 332 (47,9%) has sexual relations with regular partner and 135 (19.5%) reported regular use of condom. Conclusion: It shows the need of health education actions targeted to the teen population in the University context, especially those of health area, with a view to prevention and to the adoption of healthy habits, highlighting not only biological aspects, but also psychosocial and behavioral.

O presente artigo problematiza a incorporação da promoção dos direitos LGBTI nas políticas externas dos EUA e da UE. Em primeiro lugar, examina os principais documentos, discursos e políticas dos dois atores sobre à promoção dos direitos LGBTI no estrangeiro, e as semelhanças e diferenças entre as abordagens de ambos, atendendo às tendências da sua evolução e desenvolvimento contínuo. Em segundo lugar, o artigo analisa as condições internas nos países alvo que são propícias ao sucesso e ao fracasso do apoio internacional aos direitos LGBTI. Finalmente, o estudo apresenta uma visão crítica das medidas que são consideradas necessárias para aumentar a eficiência da promoção dos direitos LGBTI em países com tendências atuais mais negativas e/ou com historiais mais pobres sobre os direitos LGBTI.

Objective: this study aims to analyzing the knowledge of nurses from the Family Health Strategy in relation to sexual diversity and homophobia. Method: this is an exploratory, qualitative research conducted with 12 nurses. We used a semi-structured interview and for analysis, Technical Analysis Speech Eni Orlandi, making analogy with the results with metaphor. This study had the project approved by the Research Ethics Committee, CAAE 0031.0.428.000-11. Results: the nurses have reported sexual diversity as sexual orientation system and biological sex. About homophobia, they attributed coherent meanings. However, having regard to the expression of "implicit homophobia" or "symbolic". Conclusion: it is urgent to promote health through the recognition of social determinants; therefore, the experience and the approach with existing sexual multiplicity in the area limited to nurses can be presented as a way of addressing the issues related to sexual diversity.

Objectives: identifying the content related to sexuality that has been worked in the school environment and analyzing the knowledge of students about the mode of transmission and prevention of HIV/Aids. Method: this is a descriptive study (survey) that was conducted with 54 students enrolled in the ninth year of the second segment of elementary education at two public schools in João Pessoa - Paraíba. The data were analyzed in the Software Statistic 9.0 Statsof. Results: In School A, it was given a special attention related to body hygiene (44,0%). At school B there was prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (58,6%), HIV infection/Aids (51,7%) and condom use (44,8%). Conclusion: the information directed to self-care must transcend the limits of prevention and hygienisation, incorporating extensive, inclusive and reflective methodologies, which promote healthy sexual experience and consequent reduction of vulnerability to HIV/Aids.

Objective: To describe the socioeconomic and reproductive profile of female prisoners. Method: The sample consisted of 47 female inmates of penitentiaries and Teresina peaks. For data collection a form prescribed by the researcher was used. Data were collected from July to August 2013, which were tabulated and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0. Results: Showed a profile of young, unmarried women, who exercised occupation that required little skill, low education and income. Regarding reproductive health, 42,5% were multiparous, and 40,4% had less than six visits. The abortion rate was high, 42,5%. Conclusion: There was a need to plan educational strategies to prevent injuries to sexual and reproductive health of prisoners, being essential to the development of tactics to break down educational barriers and generate behavior change and promote self-care.

Objective: to identify and analyze national scientific publications on sexual and reproductive health from the perspective of the educational group, according to the national guidelines that guide the practice. Method: this was an integrative review of scientific literature in the national data base of the Virtual Health Library in the period from July to August 2014, based on articles that focused on educational groups contraception. Results: among the 33 articles identified as inclusion and exclusion criteria, 10 were selected. The themes were diverse, as well as the population, however, few studies have focused on abortion, types of violence and gender, and other restricted to contraceptive methods and sexually transmitted diseases. Conclusion: there was a gap in the literature regarding the issues surrounding the topics covered in the educational practices of sexual and reproductive health and which is recommended by the directives, since such approaches disregard the needs of participants.

Objective: To review factors that influence the quality of life of men with malignant neoplasms. Methods: This is an integrative literature review performed in SCOPUS, CINAHL, LILACS and PUBMED databases. Results: After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a sample of eight articles was obtained as a result. Then, three categories emerged: Physical activity as an improvement to the quality of life of men with malignant neoplasms; Sexual functioning and marital status of the male population as factors for life quality; Self-esteem and well-being: determining factors for the quality of life of men with cancer. Conclusion: It was observed that studies focused on the male population with malignant neoplasms are insufficient and need attention to this understudied group.

Objective: To analyze the perception of adolescents about the life activity "express sexuality". Method: This is an action-research developed at a school in the periphery of Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. We selected 25 adolescents to participate in an educational workshop on sexuality. Results: We observed vulnerability of adolescents to early pregnancy and STDs. Despite having prior knowledge about safe sex practices, we verified they expose themselves to risky situations. Conclusion: We concluded that the inclusion of school activities that promote not only the acquisition of knowledge, but, above all, activities of reflection in search of awareness of body protection, prevention of unwanted pregnancy and STDs is needed.

Objective: Understand the impact of HIV in everyday life of women living with AIDS. Method: A qualitative study involving 11 women attending a center of information on STD/HIV/AIDS and Viral Hepatitis in a city in northeastern semiarid, with data collected by semi-structured interview and interpreted by content analysis. Results: It was evident that the everyday life of women with HIV/AIDS suffers repercussions in the sexuality, by the reduction in sexual relations, discoveries of new forms of pleasure by couple and increase in personal and social responsibility after diagnosis. Moreover, there was the emergence of negative and positive feelings and the search for ways of coping of disease. Conclusion: It is concluded the necessity and importance of nursing to direct health interventions for these women, demonstrating the possibilities of pleasure, satisfaction with life and living with the disease.

Objective: to identify people’s opinion about the coexistence with HIV bearer. Method: this was a descriptive research with a quantitative approach, held in Rio de Janeiro in 2011. The sample was randomly composed by 630 participants of the samba school parades, by applying a structured interview script. The data were tabulated, organized and analyzed using descriptive statistics; being approved by the CEP of the University Veiga de Almeida number 270/11. Results: the majority of respondents would not have protected sex with a person with HIV/AIDS; they consider that this person should always work and would not worry that their child studies with a virus carrier. Conclusion: The results indicate that living with a person with HIV at work or school, have higher acceptance than the maintenance of sexual relationship, and is necessary to highlight the importance of demystifying the subject.

Objective: Analyzing the knowledge of nursing graduate students about sexually transmitted diseases and identifying practices that young people adopt for STD prevention. Method: A descriptive, quantitative study held in a public higher education institution in Rio de Janeiro with nursing graduates who answered a questionnaire. Research approved by CEP/UERJ n. 063/2012. The data were tabulated with use of simple descriptive statistics and stored in Microsoft Excel 2003 software. Results: Students recognize the importance about the use of condoms for prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, but don't use it continuously. Many students are unaware of the transmission of STD. Conclusion: The young people investigated do not have enough information about sexually transmitted diseases and preventive measures. Health professionals should contribute with information and educational activities, emphasizing the importance of practicing safe sexual health for young people.

Objective: understand the influence of breastfeeding on the experience of sexuality from the perspective of a group of recent mothers. Method: descriptive and qualitative research conducted with women who were experiencing puerperium. Data were collected through semi-structured individual interviews and submitted to thematic content analysis of the operative proposal. Results: the experience of sexuality during breastfeeding was marked by discomfort related to changes in sexual relationship, bodily changes, restricted time of the women with the partner, besides some negative behaviors of the partner. In other cases, breastfeeding did not bring significant changes in the experience of sexuality, contributing to the friendship and partnership between the couple. Conclusions: It is necessary to broaden the perspectives on the theme of sexuality during breastfeeding, perceiving it as a basic human need that needs to be discussed among women, couples and healthcare professionals.

Objective: Identifying and characterizing the scientific production of nurses related to young people's vulnerability to sexually transmitted diseases (STD). Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study (2009-2013), of type bibliometric research, conducted through the search of publications on the Health Virtual Library and the catalog of theses and dissertations of Brazilian Association of Nursing. The sample consisted of 40 articles, 05 theses and 05 dissertations. Results: The most of the publications were carried out by nurses’ teachers with doctoral degree. The theme of HIV/aids, focus of health education, field research and qualitative analysis of the findings had greater representativeness in the sample analyzed. Conclusion: Although STD have been manifested in young people and the Health Ministry of Brazil showing the increased incidence of HIV/aids in this group, the scientific literature on the subject in the studied timeframe is irregular and reduced.

Objective: to analyze the scientific production on bioethical issues involved in care of elderly with HIV/AIDS. Method: a systematic review of articles in Scopus and SciELO databases. Results: the selected studies displayed an increase in the number of older people with HIV/AIDS; the fact that old people have a lack of knowledge about the ways of HIV transmission; that health professionals have difficulty to address sexuality in old age. It was evident that, despite the conceptions built for the disease, prejudice about sexuality have hampered preventive measures for infection leading to construction of strategies of resistance by the elderly as silence regarding serology, hope for an AIDS cure and a search for the respect of their autonomy. Conclusion: there is a need for greater investment in health education to enhance the knowledge of old people about HIV/AIDS, the respect for their autonomy and to minimize the risk of prejudice towards their sexuality.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of ostomy in the sexuality of an stomized individual. Methods: A descriptive exploratory study with a quantitative approach, developed in an Integrated Health Center in Teresina/PI. Eighty three patients participated, according to the inclusion criteria. Data were collected using a structured form, stored in Excel 2010 and analyzed through descriptive statistics using chi-squared test. Approval from the Research Ethics Committee CAAE No. 36551714.0.0000.5512 was obtained. Results: Three sections were obtained. The first section, referring to the profile of the sample, includes sociodemographic features of patients with intestinal elimination ostomy; the second section features their sexuality; and the third section lists the sociodemographic characteristics and related to the characteristics of sexuality. Conclusion: Having an ostomy influences many factors that contribute to the well-being of people. The change of body image changes the psychic functions, influencing sexual activity.

There has been significant interest in the role of social media in the lives of adolescents, particularly as it relates to sexual risk. Researchers have focused on understanding usage behaviors, quantifying effects of social media exposure and activity, and using social media to intervene. Much of this work has focused on college students and non-minority youth. In this paper, we examine the growing body of literature around social media use among US minority youth and its intersection with sexual risk behavior. We introduce the concept of the "digital neighborhood" and examine the intersection of social media and sexual health in two domains: 1) sexual content in social media and 2) evidence of social media effects on sexual behavior. Finally, we discuss the opportunities and challenges for researchers and practitioners engaging youth of color. (author's abstract)

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie japońskich komiksów (manga) oraz kreskówek (anime) o tematyce erotycznej zwanych hentai. W tekście omówiona zostaje geneza hentai na tle przemian historycznych, w których seksualność stanowiła znaczący motyw kształtujący rozumienie mangi oraz anime. Zaprezentowane zostają poszczególne gatunki hentai, zawierające treści: homoseksualne (yuri, yaoi), heteroseksualne (ecchi, bakunyū/kyonyuu), dziecięce (lolicon, shotakon), BDSM (kinbari), transwestytyzm (futanari). W podsumowaniu zostaje zwrócona uwaga na konieczność przyjęcia właściwej perspektywy umożliwiającej zrozumienie nierzadko zaskakujących przejawów japońskiej seksualności., The aim of this paper is to present Japanese comics (manga) and cartoons (anime) with sexual content called hentai. I briefly review some history of Japanese art and culture, in which sexuality has always been a legitimate subject for art and which forms the cultural underpinnings of manga. I summarize the erotic themes and visions of manga with sexual content, including female and male homosexuality (yuri, yaoi), heterosexuality (ecchi, bakunyū/kyonyuu), BDSM (kinbari), transvestitism (futanari), children (lolicon, shotakon). In conclusion, I pose the question of the need to adopt the right perspective to understand the often surprising manifestations of Japanese sexuality.

"British youth have a notorious reputation for binge drinking, drug use, sex and risk behaviours within most major European holiday resorts. Consequently, there is much concern about their social activities abroad - especially in the Spanish Balearics. While research has documented these behaviours among British youth on these islands, it has tended to rely on survey data and offered little understanding of why these behaviours might take place. This is the principle aim of our paper. Our research aims were to examine the drinking attitudes among British youth abroad and investigate the reasons that underpin these attitudes. Additional research interests were drug use, sex and risk behaviours. The paper is based on findings from ethnographic research with British youth in San Antonio, Ibiza. We spent one week with British youth and undertook participant observation and 17 focus groups (equating to 97 young people aged 17 to 31). The data suggests that British youth engage in these behaviours because they are exciting; to escape the constraints of work and family in the UK; and because these behaviours are integral to the construction of their life biographies and identities. The data also indicates that these behaviours are aggressively endorsed by various aspects of the social context of Ibiza." (author's abstract)

"In this paper I wish to examine how changes have occurred in the processes of gendered identity construction amongst Mexican youths through examining local experiences of global, and specifically Mexican, modernities. Based on f eldwork carried out amongst youths in the city of San Cristobal de las Casas, in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas, my analysis addresses how youths plan for the future in the context of economic and political marginalisation, and how this affects the way in which they pursue different forms of romantic relationships. I also address changes that have occurred in youths’ understandings, perceptions and performances of their gendered identities in the context of a highly developed local tourist industry, the advent of mass media, and new online social worlds. My study shows how gendered identity construction amongst youths here becomes context-dependent, and how it encompasses individual agency whilst at the same time being negotiated through wider structural and social limitations. I also wish to demonstrate how changing gendered identities amongst youths are constantly constructed and renegotiated by individuals seeking to accommodate notions of modernity with perceptions of the traditional, and how these individuals balance contesting notions of gendered identities within themselves. This is, therefore, a study of local and gendered identity change amongst youths in the context of localised modernities and rapid social change." (author's abstract)

Objective: Get to know the topics approached in national publications on women’s sexual health and identify the cultural and social aspects envisaged. Method: Descriptive-analytical bibliographic review made in the Virtual Health Library database, using the following criteria: national publications from 2000 to 2011, full texts involving the female population. Twelve publications were analyzed through an integrative literature review. Results: The interface between women’s sexual health and the cultural aspects is reflected on the behavior, attitudes and lifestyles. The vulnerability to which women are exposed originate from several natures, represent several cultures and, sometimes, are crystallized by ongoing Sexually Transmitted Diseases, unwanted pregnancy and violence. Conclusion: By updating the knowledge on factors that interfere on the care of women’s sexual health, it is evident that a less technical and more emancipatory sexual health care approach is urgent.

Conditions under both communism and capitalism have been devastating for the intersectionality of aesthetic and sexual expression in Poland. Powerful institutions surrounding church and state have been influential sources of repression, relegating citizen sexuality to mere reproduction of new generations of passive consumers under both system of production. In response to the historic diminution of sexuality and other human rights, aesthetic communities have been persistently contesting these systemic arrangements through creative, legal, urban alliances that have been steadily building utopian enclaves of erotic expression. International sexual rights legislation, dynamics of democratic contention, institutionalization of gender inequality, the arts in sexual identity formation, fear of sacral feminine sexuality, sexual authenticity and erotic agency, the body as site of artistic resistance, and oppositional encounters among the alienated are some of the factors discussed that provide evidence of flourishing aesthetic cultures of resistance to combat institutionalized suppression of sexuality in the arts and society.
