Various deployment structures such as film type flexible structures, mesh antennas, and inflatable structures were developed. The Institute of Space and Astronautical Science developed various extendible masts. One invention was the extendible mast without hinges, which could be used not only as a support structure for equipment but also as a structural material. The extendible mast equipped for the solar array on the SFU was an example. Problems such as vibrations and reverse bending have occurred. Vibration frequency analysis indicated that the vibrations were generated because of the temperature difference among the array components, and drop shaft experiments revealed that the reverse bending could be prevented by reducing the rigidity of the material. Halca required a rigid long stroke extendible mast for its antenna. A new method was developed with use of mathematical models for its adjustment. The antenna for the ETS (Experimental Test Satellite)-8 featured a complicated modular structure, which involved the most advanced technology in the world. Larger antennas were also demanded. The future development of adaptive structures was noted to be important. Structures equipped with intelligent functions, inflatable structures, etc. were realized to be the present and near future research topics., 展開構造物として、フィルム・タイプ・フレキシブル構造物、メッシュ・アンテナ、膨張可能な構造物などを開発した。宇宙科学研究所ではさまざまな伸展マストを開発してきた。ひとつは蝶番のないもので、装置を支持する構造に使うことができるだけでなく、構造材料としても使うことができた。SFUのソーラアレイに使用された伸展マストはこのタイプのものであった。振動や逆屈曲の問題が生じたが、振動数解析を行った結果、振動は各アレイの温度差が原因であることが判明し、落下実験により逆屈曲は材料の剛性を減らすことにより押さえられることがわかった。Halcaのアンテナには剛性の高い長尺の伸展マストが必要であった。アンテナの調整をするために数学的モデルを用いた新しい方法を開発した。ETS(技術試験衛星)-8のアンテナはモジュラ構造が特徴であり、複雑な機構は世界最先端の技術を要求した。より大きなアンテナに対する需要も大きかった。将来的には適応構造物の開発が重要になった。知的機能を搭載した構造物、インフレータブル構造物などが現在および近い将来の研究テーマであることが明白になった。

This report describes an overview of the trial manufacture and research related to the feasibility of the concepts of a reflector structure using inflatable elements, inflatable tube, and recommendations on experiments on the exposed facility of the JEM (Japanese Experiment Module). The expected roles of and basic structure concept concerning the configurations, dimensions, and film surface materials of the reflector are outlined. The results of the film pressure deformation test, film element hardening test, and film and supporting truss interface test are described. The strength, trial manufacture and its results are outlined. The onboard JEM experiment concept concerning the research on the earth, preliminary experiment, and on-orbit experiment onboard JEM are introduced., 宇宙用インフレータブル構造は、予め折り畳んだプリプレグ状態の膜面を、軌道上で内圧により膨張展開させた後、太陽熱などで硬化させ、所定の形状、剛性を保持するものであり、軽量でコンパクトに収納でき、また高精度の面を形成できるという特徴から、将来の宇宙リフレクタや大型宇宙構造物への適用が考えられている。これまでに行ってきた、インフレータブル要素を使用したリフレクタ構造概念、およびインフレータブルチューブ概念のフィージビリティに関わる試作研究の概要を紹介した。(1)インフレータブル要素を使用したリフレクタ構造概念を説明した。本リフレクタ構造の位置付け、リフレクタ構造概念(基本概念、形状、寸法、および膜面材料)、および試験(加圧変形試験、膜要素硬化試験、膜/支持トラス、インタフェイス試験、および7セルトラス構造の試作)を説明した。(2)インフレータブルチューブについて述べた。チューブの強度、チューブの試作、および試作結果を述べ考察を加えた。3)JEM(日本宇宙ステーション実験モジュール)実験構想にも触れた。地上実験、予備実験、およびJEM軌道上実験の概要を示した。これまで行ってきたフィージビリティスタディからは、これらインフレータブル構造は、将来の宇宙構造物として有望であることが明らかになった。
