Herein, an economical copper-catalyzed reaction of α,β-unsaturated N -tosylhydrazones with diaryliodonium salts to construct both N -arylpyrazoles and diaryl sulfones has been developed. Both the p -toluenesulfonyl anion and the 3-arylpyrazole intermediates were formed in situ from N -tosylhydrazones. Subsequently, the former reacted rapidly with diaryliodonium salts to give diaryl sulfones and aryl iodide intermediates, and the latter reacted with aryl iodide to give N -arylpyrazoles under copper-catalyzed conditions. Using unsymmetrical mesityl phenyliodonium salts as substrates, mesityl p -toluenesulfide was obtained as the major product. This reaction took full advantage of the "waste" part of substrates to form an extra diaryl sulfone.

Highly luminescent and stable Cu nanoclusters (NCs) have been prepared, displaying an intriguing aggregation-induced emission (AIE) feature. The attractive AIE feature allowed the CuNCs to serve as pH stimuli-responsive functional materials. Additionally, we explored the utility of CuNCs for biosensing and catalysis applications.

Organic dye pollutants have become a major concern owing to their harmful nature to the environment, and removing and separating them should be one of the best remedies. Herein, two two-dimensional (2D) Cu-based coordination polymers (CPs) [Cu(3-dpye)(OX)]n (Cu-CP-1) and [Cu(3-dpyb)(OX)]n (Cu-CP-2) [3-dpye = N,N′-bis(3-pyridinecarboxamide)-1,2-ethane, 3-dpyb = N,N′-bis(3-pyridinecarboxamide)-1,4-benzene, OX = oxalate] were successfully synthesized by tuning the secondary ligands under hydrothermal conditions and applied to selectively adsorb and photodegrade anionic dyes, such as methyl orange (MO) and Congo red (CR), from an aqueous solution. The Cu-CPs exhibited different compositions because of the different N-donor ligands, which were used as precursors for the preparation of Cu/Cu2O heterojunctions (Cu@C-1, Cu@C-2, Cu@N-1, Cu@N-2, Cu@S-1 and Cu@S-2). Doping a foreign element into the intrinsic Cu-based materials is an effective way to enhance both the adsorbing capacity and the photocatalytic activity. Benefiting from the formation of Cu/Cu2O and graphite-type carbon sheets, the maximum adsorption capacities of Cu@N-2 at room temperature are 2097.84 mg g−1 for MO and 1942.85 mg g−1 for CR in 240 min, while the photocatalytic degradation rates are 95.23% for MO and 99.25% for CR after 4 h. Electrochemical water splitting is considered a green and sustainable method of producing hydrogen energy. Herein, to pursue a highly efficient hydrogen evolution reaction, we fabricated high-performance electrocatalysts, by utilizing a bimetallic (Cu and Co) metal–organic framework to modify rGO through a one-step in situ approach. The synthesized CuCoOC@rGO presents a highly ordered structure with a defect-rich porous surface for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Specifically, the appropriate adjustment of metal (Cu and Co), 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid (H3BTC), and rGO ratios leads to a well-defined morphology, which creates a defect-rich porous surface. Characterized by XRD, SEM, EDS, FT-IR spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, XPS, and BET, the morphology exposes more active sites, strong evidence for the promotion of electrocatalytic efficiency. Upon the analysis of the experimental data, the obtained CuCoOC@rGO catalyst exhibits excellent activity in alkaline media with a low overpotential of 120 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm−2, and a Tafel slope of 124 mV dec−1 for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Guided by the structure–activity relationship, the superior HER activity of CuCoOC@rGO in alkaline electrolyte could originate from many sources, including: (1) as a self-supported substrate, CuCoOC@rGO not only leads to profitable electrical contact and mechanical stability but also firmly roots into the rGO without extra binders. (2) The highly ordered structure provides smooth ion and electron transport channels, which are conducive to electrolyte infiltration and gas release. (3) The abundance of defective pores on the surface of the nanoarrays, which offers more active sites for the catalytic process. This study provides new prospects for the rational design and fabrication of advanced hierarchical functional electrocatalysts for application in electrochemical energy devices. In this work, three commercial Cu catalysts were benchmarked in the CO2RR using a gas-diffusion type microfluidic flow electrolyzer. We showed that commercial Cu could deliver a high FE of near 80% for C2+ product formations at 300 mA cm−2. By tuning the catalyst loading, a high reaction rate of near 1 A cm−2 with a C2+ product FE over 70% was achieved. Our results demonstrated that commercial Cu could achieve similar or better performances compared to many current catalysts by design in the CO2RR using similar electrolyzers. In addition, we showed that high CO reduction reaction (CORR) performance could also be achieved on commercial Cu, and disparities between CO and CO2 electrolysis were discussed. Four new coordination compounds, namely {[Cd3(L)2(μ3-OH)2(H2O)]·H2O}n(1), {Ni(L)(bipy)}n(2), {Cu3(L)2(bipy)(μ2-OH)2(DMF)2}n(3), and {Co2L2(H2L)(H2O)}n(4), have been synthesized by the solvothermal reaction of 4,4′-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)bis(benzoic acid) (H2L) with different transition metal ions in the presence of co-ligand 4,4′-bipyridine (bipy). Compound 1displays a three-dimensional (3D) framework containing infinite bands constructed of heptanuclear cadmium clusters. In compound 2, [Ni2C2O4] secondary building units (SBUs) are linked by L2−ligands into a 1D ribbon, which are further assembled into a two-dimensional (2D) non-interpenetrated structure with {44·62} topology. Compound 3possesses a 3D framework with a new topology of {43}2{46·614·88} net, while the structure of 4is a duplicate interpenetrated 3D framework with {412·63} net. Temperature-dependent magnetic studies reveal that 3exhibits ferromagnetic coupling between adjacent Cu(ii) ions.
