Starting from the molecular picture for the D s 1 (2460) and D s 1 (2536) resonances, which are dynamically generated by the interaction of coupled channels, the most important of which are the D ∗ K for the D s 1 (2460) and D K ∗ for the D s 1 (2536) , we evaluate the ratio of decay widths for the B ¯ s 0 → D s 1 (2460) + K - and B ¯ s 0 → D s 1 (2536) + K - decays, the latter of which has been recently investigated by the LHCb collaboration, and we obtain a ratio of the order of unity. The present results should provide an incentive for the related decay into the D s 1 (2460) resonance to be performed, which would provide valuable information on the nature of these two resonances. Methamphetamine (METH) abuse is known to cause executive dysfunction. However, the molecular mechanism underlying METH induced executive dysfunction remains unclear. Go/NoGo experiment was performed in mice to evaluate METH-induced executive dysfunction. Immunoblot analysis of Nuclear factor-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), phosphorylated Nrf2 (p-Nrf2), heme-oxygenase-1 (HO-1), Glucose Regulated Protein 78(GRP78), C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP), Bcl-2, Bax and Caspase3 was performed to evaluate the levels of oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and apoptosis in the dorsal striatum (Dstr). Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity was conducted to evaluate the level of oxidative stress. TUNEL staining was conducted to detect apoptotic neurons. The animal Go/NoGo testing confirmed that METH abuse impaired the inhibitory control ability of executive function. Meanwhile, METH down-regulated the expression of p-Nrf2, HO-1 and GSH-Px and activated ER stress and apoptosis in the Dstr. Microinjection of Tert-butylhydroxyquinone (TBHQ), an Nrf2 agonist, into the Dstr increased the expression of p-Nrf2, HO-1, and GSH-Px, ameliorated ER stress, apoptosis and executive dysfunction caused by METH. Our results indicated that the p-Nrf2/HO-1 pathway was potentially involved in mediating methamphetamine-induced executive dysfunction by inducing endoplasmic reticulum stress and apoptosis in the dorsal striatum. Nitidine chloride (NC) is effective on cancer in many tumors, but its effect on bladder cancer (BC) is unknown. We conducted cell function experiments to verify the antineoplastic effect of NC on BC cell lines (5637, T24, and UM-UC-3) in vitro. Then, mRNAs of NC-treated and NC-untreated BC cells were extracted for mRNA sequencing. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs), expression analysis, and drug molecular docking were conducted to discover the target gene of NC. Finally, functional enrichment was analyzed to explore the underlying mechanisms. NC dramatically inhibited proliferation, migration, and invasion, and it induced apoptosis and arrested the S and G2/M phases of BC cell lines. Lymphocyte antigen 75 (LY75) appeared to be the target of NC. LY75 was highly expressed and had the ability to distinguish BC tissue from non-cancerous tissue. Then, drug molecular docking confirmed the targeting relationship between NC and LY75. Gene enrichment analysis showed that the downregulated genes, after being treated with NC, were mainly enriched in pathways relevant to cell pathophysiological processes. NC inhibits BC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, induces apoptosis, and arrests cell cycles by downregulating the expression of LY75. Monolayer BSi has received much attention due to its potential applications in the field of energy storage and superconductivity. However, the mechanical properties of monolayer BSi have not been fully elucidated yet. In this paper, the morphology, elastic constants and Young's moduli of raw and C, N, P, and S doped monolayer BSi have been investigated by the first principle density functional theory (DFT) calculation. The monolayer BSi exhibits an anisotropic mechanical performance. The results indicate that the C, N, P and S doping affect the value of Young's modulus of BSi, as well as the modulus distribution. Cognitive deficits are a core feature of major depressive disorder (MDD). However, there are no previous studies that directly compare cognitive performance between first-episode drug-naive depressive patients (FDDP) and medicated depressive patients (MDP). Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate whether there were the differences in cognitive functions between FDDP and MDP. Sixty-two FDDP, 111 MDP and 90 healthy controls were enrolled in a Chinese population. Cognitive functions were assessed using the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS). There were the differences in the RBANS total score (F = 26.55, p < 0.001), subscales of immediate memory (F = 3.95, p = 0.02), language (F = 54.11, p < 0.001) and delayed memory (F = 11.19, p = 0.001) among the three groups after controlling for gender, education, smoking and body mass index (BMI). These differences in the RBANS total score, subscales of language and delayed memory passed the Bonferroni corrections (all, p < 0.05). Compared to healthy controls, FDDP and MDP had poorer cognitive performance including the RBANS total score, and subscales of language and delayed memory (all, p < 0.05) after controlling for the variables. FDDP experienced greater language deficits than MDP (p < 0.05) after controlling for the variables. Education was correlated with the language score in FDDP (r = 0.61, p < 0.001). Multivariate regression analysis indicated that education was an independent contributor to the language score in FDDP (ß = 3.11, t = 5.48, p < 0.001). By overcoming the well-known challenges of the current internet, great expectations are focused on information-centric networking (ICN). ICN extensively uses universal in-network caching. However, developing an efficient caching scheme remains an open question. To overcome the useless caching and duplication caching of previous caching schemes, we propose an adaptive caching scheme—caching on demand (COD). By following the change in potential demand from the consumer and the temporal patterns of content popularity, COD allows content to be cached only by some necessary nodes instead of all nodes on the path from content provider to content consumer. At the same time, in accordance with trading off bandwidth for cache (bandwidth-for-cache), content can be pushed to the adjacent node with more cache capacity. We present a theoretical model to evaluate cache usage for COD. Finally, we evaluate COD through extensive experiments and a wide range of performance metrics. The experimental results under diverse setting demonstrate that COD can yield a steady improvement of network performance and caching efficiency compared with CEE, EgoBetw and Probcache. Objective: To compare imaging findings of CT and contrast-enhanced US (CEUS) in hepatic angiomyolipoma (HAML) and investigate their pathological correlations. Methods: Imaging findings and preoperative diagnosis of CT and CEUS were retrospectively compared head to head in 46 patients with 54 histologically proven HAMLs. Correlations between imaging features and preoperative diagnosis with pathological types of HAMLs were analyzed. Results: Fat was detected in 100% of lipomatous type, 84.6% of mixed type, and 7.1% of myomatous type ( p = 0.000) of HAML at unenhanced CT. Well-defined hyper-echogenicity was displayed in 100% of lipomatous type, 88.5% of mixed type, 50% of myomatous type, and 66.7% of angiomatous type of HAMLs at unenhanced US. More arterial hyper-enhancement was noted on CEUS (100%) than on CT (73.1%) in mixed type ( p = 0.015) and in lipomatous type (90.9% vs. 9.1%, p = 0.000) of HAMLs. Washout was present in more HAMLs on CT than on CEUS (42.6% vs. 18.5%, p = 0.007). Correct preoperative diagnosis was suggested in more HAMLs of myomatous type on CEUS than on CT (42.9% vs. 0%, p = 0.016) but showed no difference in other types of HAMLs. Conclusion: There are considerable discrepancies between CT and CEUS findings of HAMLs, and the imaging appearance and preoperative diagnosis of HAMLs on CT and CEUS are significantly affected by pathological types of HAMLs. Purpose: To analyse the dynamic enhancing features by real-time contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) of intrahepatic peripheral cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) in patients with chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis. Materials and methods: CEUS was performed by using contrast pulse sequencing (CPS) imaging with mechanical index of <0.2 after injection of 2.4 mL of contrast agent. CEUS images of histologically confirmed ICC in 54 patents (15 patents with chronic hepatitis B, 16 patents with cirrhosis, and 23 patents with normal underlying liver) were analyzed. Results: Heterogeneous hyperenhancement was more frequently identified in ICC with chronic hepatitis (9 of 15, 60.0%, p = 0.000) and cirrhosis (8 of 16, 50.0%, p = 0.010) than in patients with normal liver (6 of 23, 26.1%) during arterial phase. The majority of ICC in patients with normal liver displayed peripheral hyperenhancement (13 of 23, 56.5%), than in patients with chronic hepatitis (4 of 15, 26.7%, p = 0.000) and cirrhosis (5 of 16, 31.3%, p = 0.001). Intense contrast uptake during the arterial phase (heterogeneous hyperenhancement or global hyperenhancement) followed by washout in venous phases was more frequently displayed in ICC patients with chronic hepatitis (11 of 15, 73.3%, p = 0.000) and in patients with cirrhosis (11 of 16, 68.8%, p = 0.000) than in ICC patients with normal underlying liver (8 of 23, 34.8%). Conclusion: The enhancing vascular pattern of ICC on CEUS in patients with chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis is different from that in ICC without underlying liver disease. Introduction: Wilms' tumour (WT) is very rare in adults but very common in children. Treatment guidelines for adult patients with WT are still insuffi cient. Some study groups recommend that therapeutic protocols for adults with WT (AWT) should follow the guidelines that have been established for children. Objective: To describe the clinical and pathological characteristics of AWT as well as the treatment protocols and outcomes for AWT at our treatment centre. Material and methods: Seven patients (5 females and 2 males) were diagnosed with AWT in our hospital between 2002 and 2009. The tumours were staged and the patients were treated according to the paediatric regimen recommended by the National Wilms' Tumor Study Group. Results: The median patient age at the time of diagnosis was 29 years (range, 16-37 years). Flank pain was the most common clinical presentation. One patient was in Stage I of disease development, two were in Stage II, two were in Stage III and two were in Stage IV. Anaplasia was present in 3 patients with Stage III or Stage IV disease. All of the patients but one underwent nephrectomy and 2 incomplete surgeries were performed. Seven patients received 2-drug or 3-drug chemotherapy (dactinomycin and vincristine and/or doxorubicin). Two patients with Stage III disease also received radiation therapy (a total dose of 3600 or 3960 cGy). Complete remission was achieved in 4 patients. Three patients (one with Stage III disease, 2 patients with Stage IV disease) died of their disease and those patients were all classifi ed with an unfavourable histological type called anaplasia. With a median follow-up of 53.5 months (range, 40-102 months), the 3-year and 5-year overall survival rates were 57.1% (95% confi dence interval, 20.4-93.8%). Conclusions: The results of this report suggest that histological anaplasia might be an adverse prognostic factor for AWT. Proper application of the diagnostic and therapeutic regimens established for children may improve the prognosis of adult patients with WT. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and objective: Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the lungs that is characterised by increased inflammatory cell infiltration into the airways and poor respiratory function. Ivermectin is a semi-synthetic derivative of a family of macrocyclic lactones that shows broad-spectrum anti-parasitic activity. This drug has been shown to possess anti-inflammatory activity, but whether it can be used in asthma treatment has not yet been investigated. In this study, we aimed to investigate the inhibitory effects of ivermectin on allergic asthma symptoms in mice. Methods and results: We used a mouse asthma model, in which allergic airway inflammation and airway remodelling were induced by ovalbumin (OVA) sensitisation and challenge. Ivermectin or PBS treatment was administered 1 h before OVA challenge. Ivermectin at 2 mg/kg significantly diminished recruitment of immune cells, production of cytokines in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluids and secretion of OVA-specific IgE and IgG1 in the serum. Histological studies indicated that ivermectin suppressed mucus hypersecretion by goblet cells in the airway. Conclusions: This is the first study to demonstrate that ivermectin is an effective suppressor of inflammation and may be efficacious in the treatment of non-infectious airway inflammatory diseases such as allergic asthma. Valnemulin reportedly regulates inflammatory responses in addition to its in vitro antibacterial activity. In this study, we established a mouse model of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory lung injury and investigated the effect of valnemulin (100 mg/kg) on acute lung injury (ALI) 8 h after LPS challenge. We prepared bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) for measuring protein concentrations, cytokine levels, and superoxidase dismutase (SOD) activity, and collected lungs for assaying wet-to-dry weight (W/D) ratios, myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, cytokine mRNA expression, and histological change. We found that the pre-administration of valnemulin significantly decreases the W/D ratio of lungs, protein concentrations, and the number of total cells, neutrophils, macrophages, and leukomonocytes, and histologic analysis indicates that valnemulin significantly attenuates tissue injury. Furthermore, valnemulin significantly increases LPS-induced SOD activity in BALF and decreases lung MPO activity as well. In addition, valnemulin also inhibits the production of tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6, and interleukin-1β, which is consistent with mRNA expression in lung. Aim: Polypeptide from Chlamys farreri (PCF, molecular mass is 879) is a new marine polypeptide compound isolated from Chlamys farreri. This study investigates the possible protective roles and the mechanism of PCF against ultraviolet B (UVB)-induced apoptosis in murine thymocytes. Methods: The rate of apoptosis and caspase-3 activation was measured by flow cytometry. The expression of stress-response genes c-fos and c-jun was observed by RT—PCR. Western blot analysis was performed to determine the release of cytochrome c. Results: It was found that UVB induced murine thymocyte death. The cells treated with UVB showed an increase in cytochrome c release, caspase-3 activity, as well as in the expression of c-fos and c-jun. In addition, all were involved in UVB-induced cell apoptosis. Conclusion: Our present observations pointed to the ability of PCF to avert UVB-induced apoptosis in thymocytes by modulating c-fos and c-jun expression, cytochrome c release, and the consequent activation of caspase-3, which were essential components of the UV-induced cell apoptotic pathway. The extracts from leaves of Manglietia insignis (Wall) Blume, Manglietia chingii Dandy and Manglietia yuyuanensis Law were prepared by organic solvent extraction and their components were analyzed by GC/MS and quantified. Meanwhile, the free radicals restraining activities were detected. The 21 compounds in M. insignis, 36 compounds in M. chigii and 20 compounds in M. yuyuanensis were identified. There were 11 common components in the extracts from three Manglietia species, and 12 components in two Manglietia species. The results of relative contents of every component in three extracts showed that the main constituents of M. insignis were terpenoids and alkene, amounting to 38.93%, followed by alkane (28.18%), the nitrogen containing compounds (15.73%) and aromatic compounds (7.23 %). The main constituents of leaf extract from M. chingii were the terpenoids and alkene, carboxylic acid, alkane and aromatic compounds, amounting to 30.22%, 14.17%, 13.87% and 13.29%, respectively. The main constituents of M. yuyuanensis were alcohol compounds, the terpenoids and alkene, and aromatic compounds, amounting to 28.00%, 25.38% and 18.00% respectively. The results showed that the three extracts had strong function of restraining oxygen free radicals. The ultra oxygen anions activity was restrained at the highest level, when the three extracts were diluted by hundred-fold, whereas the restraining capacity of hydroxyl free radicals reached maximum, when the three extracts were diluted by twenty-fold. Cognitive impairment is a core feature of schizophrenia (SCH). In addition to the toxic effect of Bilirubin (BIL), it has antioxidant properties that were associated with the psychopathology and cognitive impairment of psychiatric disorders. The aim of this study was to examine the correlation of serum total BIL (TBIL) concentration with cognitive impairment in SCH patients. We recruited 34 SCH patients and 119 healthy controls (HCs) in this case-control design. Cognition was assessed using the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS). Serum TBIL concentration was measured using the immunoturbidimetric method. Serum TBIL concentration was significantly decreased in SCH patients compared to HCs after adjusting for age, gender, and education. Serum TBIL concentration in SCH patients was also positively correlated with the RBANS immediate memory score. Further stepwise multiple regression analysis confirmed the positive association between serum TBIL concentration and immediate memory score in SCH patients. Our findings supported that the decline in serum TBIL concentration was associated with the immediate memory impairment and psychopathology of SCH. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
