The pulp and paper industry is critical to global industrial and economic development. Recently, India's pulp and paper industries have been facing severe competitive challenges. The challenges have impaired the environmental performance and resulted in the closure of several operations. Assessment and prediction of the performance of the Indian pulp and paper industry using various parameters is a critical task for researchers. This study proposes a framework for performance assessment and prediction based on Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), Artificial Neural Networks, and Deep Learning (DL) to assist industry administration and decision-making. We presented a case study based on eight industries to demonstrate the methodology's applicability. This study analyses and predicts industry performance based on sample data observations over 30 years. The result suggests the DEA-DL-based efficiency prediction has an overall MSE of 0.08 compared with the actual efficiency. Furthermore, the efficiency rankings are compared between the three techniques. The results suggest that the integrated DEA-DL method is primarily accurate in most scenarios with the actual values. Purpose: Paper-based artifacts hold significant cultural and social values. However, paper is intrinsically fragile to microorganisms, such as mold, due to its cellulose composition, which can serve as a microorganisms' nutrient source. Mold not only can damage papers' structural integrity and pose significant challenges to conservation works but also may subject individuals attending the contaminated artifacts to health risks. Current approaches for strain identification usually require extensive training, prolonged time for analysis, expensive operation costs, and higher risks of secondary damage due to sampling. Thus, in current conservation practices with mold-contaminated artifacts, little pre-screening or strain identification was performed before mold removal, and the cleaning techniques are usually broad-spectrum rather than strain-specific. With deep learning showing promising applications across various domains, this study investigated the feasibility of using a convolutional neural network (CNN) for fast in-situ recognition and classification of mold on paper. Methods: Molds were first non-invasively sampled from ancient Xuan Paper-based Chinese books from the Qing and Ming dynasties. Strains were identified using molecular biology methods and the four most prevalent strains were inoculated on Xuan paper to create mockups for image collection. Microscopic images of the molds as well as their stains situated on paper were collected using a compound microscope and commercial microscope lens for cell phone cameras, which were then used for training CNN models with a transfer learning scheme to perform the classification of mold. To enable involvement and contribution from the research community, a web interface that actuates the process while providing interactive features for users to learn about the information of the classified strain was constructed. Moreover, a feedback functionality in the web interface was embedded for catching potential classification errors, adding additional training images, or introducing new strains, all to refine the generalizability and robustness of the model. Results & Conclusion: In the study, we have constructed a suite of high-confidence classification CNN models for the diagnostic process for mold contamination in conservation. At the same time, a web interface was constructed that allows recurrently refining the model with human feedback through engaging the research community. Overall, the proposed framework opens new avenues for effective and timely identification of mold, thus enabling proactive and targeted mold remediation strategies in conservation. The automatic semantic structuring of scientific text allows for more efficient reading of research articles and is an important indexing step for academic search engines. Sequential sentence classification is an essential structuring task and targets the categorisation of sentences based on their content and context. However, the potential of transfer learning for sentence classification across different scientific domains and text types, such as full papers and abstracts, has not yet been explored in prior work. In this paper, we present a systematic analysis of transfer learning for scientific sequential sentence classification. For this purpose, we derive seven research questions and present several contributions to address them: (1) We suggest a novel uniform deep learning architecture and multi-task learning for cross-domain sequential sentence classification in scientific text. (2) We tailor two transfer learning methods to deal with the given task, namely sequential transfer learning and multi-task learning. (3) We compare the results of the two best models using qualitative examples in a case study. (4) We provide an approach for the semi-automatic identification of semantically related classes across annotation schemes and analyse the results for four annotation schemes. The clusters and underlying semantic vectors are validated using k-means clustering. (5) Our comprehensive experimental results indicate that when using the proposed multi-task learning architecture, models trained on datasets from different scientific domains benefit from one another. Thousands of papers are published at conferences every year. Conference organizers manually assign accepted papers to the sessions according to the title and keywords given by the author. Then organizer names each session, based on his/her experience. These are complex and time-consuming processes and often fail to collect papers on a similar topic in content. This often causes the participant to exit the session after listening to the presentation of one or two papers, because the session name does not fully represent the papers in the session and the papers in the session are not close in content. As a solution to these problems, this paper proposes a method for automatically organizing conference sessions. The method first introduces a network created with a deep learning-based document similarity. Then, sessions are determined with a community discovery method specific to this network, and finally, session titles are extracted with a topic modeling approach. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first effort in this direction. Experiments conducted on sessions of three real conferences show that the proposed method is able to create up to 21% better similar sessions, and session names better represent the papers in that session. Paper recommendation with personalized methods helps researchers to track the latest academic trends and master cutting-edge academic trends efficiently. Meanwhile, the methods of previous paper recommendation suffer from three problems: data sparsity of content-based and collaborative filtering methods; Graph-based recommendations do not fully consider the personalized information of authors and their articles; Cold start based on deep learning. To overcome those difficulties, we propose a personalized paper recommendation method based on a knowledge graph and Transformer encoder (KGTE) with a self-attention mechanism. Firstly, we add auxiliary information (article title, publication year, citation times, and abstract) as attributes to the nodes of knowledge graph(KG), which contain author, digital object unique identifier(DOI) and keywords. Secondly, BERT is used to represent the semantic information features of the article and Transformer is introduced to fully integrate the feature context. After that, by using RippleNet, we traverse the knowledge graph, filter the user preference distribution and form a set of pre recommended nodes with multi_hop nodes. Finally, the prediction layer sorts the set and gets a Top_n paper recommendation. In the experiments on the DBLP and Aminer datasets, the precision value of KGTE improved by an average of 2.59% over the existing baseline methods DER and 4.23% improvement in NDCG. Every year, thousands of papers are published in journals and conferences by researchers in many different fields. These papers are an important guide for other researchers. However, the increasing amount of digital data with the development of information technologies makes it difficult to reach the desired information. Recommendation systems play an important role in facilitating researchers' access to studies on their subjects. It provides faster and easier access to papers on the desired subject. Recommendation systems are developed according to the user profile or subject. In this paper, a novel hybrid paper recommendation system based on deep learning is proposed. The method uses a combination of document similarity, hierarchical clustering, and keyword extraction. Our aim is to group papers in different fields such as computer science, economics, medicine, or in a specific field, according to their subjects, and to present papers with high semantic similarity to the user according to the query entered. The study has been applied on real dataset containing papers from different categories such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, human–computer interaction in computer science. The success of each stage of the study has been evaluated separately. However, looking at the system as a whole, the overall performance of the proposed approach is 80%. There is increasing focus on applying deep learning methods to electrocardiograms (ECGs), with recent studies showing that neural networks (NNs) can predict future heart failure or atrial fibrillation from the ECG alone. However, large numbers of ECGs are needed to train NNs, and many ECGs are currently only in paper format, which are not suitable for NN training. We developed a fully-automated online ECG digitisation tool to convert scanned paper ECGs into digital signals. Using automated horizontal and vertical anchor point detection, the algorithm automatically segments the ECG image into separate images for the 12 leads and a dynamical morphological algorithm is then applied to extract the signal of interest. We then validated the performance of the algorithm on 515 digital ECGs, of which 45 were printed, scanned and redigitised. The automated digitisation tool achieved 99.0% correlation between the digitised signals and the ground truth ECG (n = 515 standard 3-by-4 ECGs) after excluding ECGs with overlap of lead signals. Without exclusion, the performance of average correlation was from 90 to 97% across the leads on all 3-by-4 ECGs. There was a 97% correlation for 12-by-1 and 3-by-1 ECG formats after excluding ECGs with overlap of lead signals. Without exclusion, the average correlation of some leads in 12-by-1 ECGs was 60–70% and the average correlation of 3-by-1 ECGs achieved 80–90%. ECGs that were printed, scanned, and redigitised, our tool achieved 96% correlation with the original signals. We have developed and validated a fully-automated, user-friendly, online ECG digitisation tool. Unlike other available tools, this does not require any manual segmentation of ECG signals. During the past decades, several academic paper recommendation systems were introduced in literature aiming to assist users in finding relevant papers close to their needs. In particular, those models have used users' past preferences combined with papers' side information to personalize their recommendations. Unfortunately, the majority of those models fail to utilize the implicit relationship between the crucial elements along with the semantic relations of the nodes in a Heterogeneous Information Network (HIN), which can further improve the accuracy of the models. In this paper, we propose a research article recommendation model that aims to tackle those issues by exploiting both textual and graph representations, simultaneously. The model employs SPECTER document embedding to learn context-preserving research article representations. In particular, it learns the features from a HIN, which is a knowledge graph of the node entities and their relationships. Then, an attention module strengthens the semantic feature extraction process and learns enhanced representations. The combined semantic and structural features are then provided as input to a Deep Neural Network (DNN) in order to learn high-level representations of query and candidate papers. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to preserve and promote cultural heritage has experienced significant growth in recent years. Among the various areas of cultural heritage, numismatics have emerged as a particularly promising field where we can develop AI solutions. Numismatics refers to the study of coins, tokens, paper money, and medals, which play a critical role in understanding human history and culture. However, there are still limited resources available to help researchers and collectors in the identification of coins. This is due to the vast number of coins in circulation, which presents a significant challenge in developing smart tools for classification tasks. This paper aims to provide a contribution to this setting. In particular, we start by creating a new dataset called EURO-Coin, which consists of images showing the side of coins with reliefs and is designed to facilitate the training and testing of AI models for euro coin classification. Then, we propose two approaches that leverage Convolutional Neural Networks and self-attention layers to classify the country and value of the coins. In our experiments, we obtain an accuracy of 86.9% for country classification and an accuracy of 96.4% for value classification. One of the pandemics that have caused many deaths is the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). It first appeared in late 2019, and many deaths are increasing day by day until now. Therefore, the early diagnosis of COVID-19 has become a salient issue. Additionally, the current diagnosis methods have several demerits, and a new investigation is required to enhance the diagnosis performance. In this paper, a set of phases are performed, such as collecting data, filtering and augmenting images, extracting features, and classifying ECG images. The data were obtained from two publicly available ECG image datasets, and one of them contained COVID ECG reports. A set of preprocessing methods are applied to the ECG images, and data augmentation is performed to balance the ECG images based on the classes. A deep learning approach based on a convolutional neural network (CNN) is performed for feature extraction. Four different pre-trained models are applied, such as Vgg16, Vgg19, ResNet-101, and Xception. Moreover, an ensemble of Xception and the temporary convolutional network (TCN), which is named ECGConvnet, is proposed. Finally, the results obtained from the former models are fed to four main classifiers. These classifiers are softmax, random forest (RF), multilayer perception (MLP), and support vector machine (SVM). The former classifiers are used to evaluate the diagnosis ability of the proposed methods. The classification scenario is based on fivefold cross-validation. Seven experiments are presented to evaluate the performance of the ECGConvnet. Three of them are multi-class, and the remaining are binary class diagnosing. Six out of seven experiments diagnose COVID-19 patients. The aforementioned experimental results indicated that ECGConvnet has the highest performance over other pre-trained models, and the SVM classifier showed higher accuracy in comparison with the other classifiers. The resulting accuracies from ECGConvnet based on SVM are (99.74%, 98.6%, 99.1% on the multi-class diagnosis tasks) and (99.8% on one of the binary-class diagnoses, while the remaining achieved 100%). Predicting the impact of academic papers can help scholars quickly identify the high-quality papers in the field. How to develop efficient predictive model for evaluating potential papers has attracted increasing attention in academia. Many studies have shown that early citations contribute to improving the performance of predicting the long-term impact of a paper. Besides early citations, some bibliometric features and altmetric features have also been explored for predicting the impact of academic papers. Furthermore, paper metadata text such as title, abstract and keyword contains valuable information which has effect on its citation count. However, present studies ignore the semantic information contained in the metadata text. In this paper, we propose a novel citation prediction model based on paper metadata text to predict the long-term citation count, and the core of our model is to obtain the semantic information from the metadata text. We use deep learning techniques to encode the metadata text, and then further extract high-level semantic features for learning the citation prediction task. We also integrate early citations for improving the prediction performance of the model. We show that our proposed model outperforms the state-of-the-art models in predicting the long-term citation count of the papers, and metadata semantic features are effective for improving the accuracy of the citation prediction models. Citations are crucial artifacts to provide additional information to the reader to comprehend the research under concern. There are different roles that citations play in scientific discourse. Correctly identifying the intent of the citations finds applications ranging from predicting scholarly impact, finding idea propagation, to text summarization. With the rapid growth in scientific literature, the need for automated methods to classify citations is now growing intense. However, we can only fully understand the intent of a citation if we look at the citation context in the citing paper and also the primary purpose of the cited article. In this work, we propose a neural multi-task learning framework that harnesses the structural information of the research papers and the cited paper's information for the effective classification of citation intents. We analyze the impact of three auxiliary tasks on the performance of our approach for citation classification. Our experiments on three benchmark citation classification datasets show that incorporating cited paper information (title) shows that our deep neural model achieves a new state-of-the-art on the ACL-ARC dataset with an absolute increase of 5.3% in the F1 score over the previous best model. We also achieve comparable performance with respect to the best-performing systems in the SDP 2021 3C Shared task on Citation Context Classification. Paper classification plays a pivotal role in facilitating precise literature retrieval, recommendations, and bibliometric analyses. However, current text-based methods predominantly emphasize intrinsic features such as titles, abstracts, and keywords, overlooking the valuable insights concealed within reference papers (i.e., cited papers). As a result, this oversight leads to reduced classification accuracy. In contrast, as a practical deep learning approach, graph neural networks incorporate the characteristics of reference papers to enhance paper classification. Nevertheless, traditional graph neural networks encounter limitations when handling intricate multi-level citation relationships in academic papers. To address these challenges, we introduce an enhanced graph neural network model for academic paper classification. This model integrates a multi-head attention mechanism and a residual network structure to dynamically allocate weights to various nodes within the graph, thereby enhancing its ability to handle complex multi-level citation relationships. Our experimental findings on an extensive real-world dataset demonstrate that our model achieves an accuracy of 61%, surpassing traditional graph neural networks by over 4%. Predicting the future career of individual scientists is an important yet challenging problem with numerous applications such as recruitment of scientific research positions, promoting outstanding academic staff, and managing scientific grant proposals. Despite that much effort has been devoted to predict scientists' future performance and success, yet these works focus on the macro future performance of scholars from the perspective of their career ages. A related but different task is to predict the impact and publication date of each future paper. We regard this micro level prediction problem as a dynamic series auto-regression task, and a deep learning method is designed to solve it. Additive manufacturing (AM) offers the advantage of producing complex parts more efficiently and in a lesser production cycle time as compared to conventional subtractive manufacturing processes. It also provides higher flexibility for diverse applications by facilitating the use of a variety of materials and different processing technologies. With the exceptional growth of computing capability, researchers are extensively using machine learning (ML) techniques to control the performance of every phase of AM processes, such as design, process parameters modeling, process monitoring and control, quality inspection, and validation. Also, ML methods have made it possible to develop cybermanufacturing for AM systems and thus revolutionized Industry 4.0. This paper presents the state-of-the-art applications of ML in solving numerous problems related to AM processes. We give an overview of the research trends in this domain through a systematic literature review of relevant journal articles and conference papers. In daily clinical practice, clinicians integrate available data to ascertain the diagnostic and prognostic probability of a disease or clinical outcome for their patients. For patients with suspected or known cardiovascular disease, several anatomical and functional imaging techniques are commonly performed to aid this endeavor, including coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) and nuclear cardiology imaging. Continuous improvement in positron emission tomography (PET), single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), and CT hardware and software has resulted in improved diagnostic performance and wide implementation of these imaging techniques in daily clinical practice. However, the human ability to interpret, quantify, and integrate these data sets is limited. The identification of novel markers and application of machine learning (ML) algorithms, including deep learning (DL) to cardiovascular imaging techniques will further improve diagnosis and prognostication for patients with cardiovascular diseases. The goal of this position paper of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) and the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) is to provide an overview of the general concepts behind modern machine learning-based artificial intelligence, highlights currently prefered methods, practices, and computational models, and proposes new strategies to support the clinical application of ML in the field of cardiovascular imaging using nuclear cardiology (hybrid) and CT techniques. In recent years, there has been a dramatic increase in research papers about machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence in radiology. With so many papers around, it is of paramount importance to make a proper scientific quality assessment as to their validity, reliability, effectiveness, and clinical applicability. Due to methodological complexity, the papers on ML in radiology are often hard to evaluate, requiring a good understanding of key methodological issues. In this review, we aimed to guide the radiology community about key methodological aspects of ML to improve their academic reading and peer-review experience. Key aspects of ML pipeline were presented within four broad categories: study design, data handling, modelling, and reporting. Sixteen key methodological items and related common pitfalls were reviewed with a fresh perspective: database size, robustness of reference standard, information leakage, feature scaling, reliability of features, high dimensionality, perturbations in feature selection, class balance, bias-variance trade-off, hyperparameter tuning, performance metrics, generalisability, clinical utility, comparison with traditional tools, data sharing, and transparent reporting. Single-frame infrared small target detection is affected by the low image resolution and small target size, and is prone to the problems of small target feature loss and positional offset during continuous downsampling; at the same time, the sparse features of the small targets do not correlate well with the global-local linkage of the background features. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes an efficient infrared small target detection method. First, this paper incorporates BlurPool in the feature extraction part, which reduces the loss and positional offset of small target features in the process of convolution and pooling. Second, this paper designs an interactive attention deep feature fusion module, which acquires the correlation information between the target and the background from a global perspective, and designs a compression mechanism based on deep a priori knowledge, which reduces the computational difficulty of the self-attention mechanism. Then, this paper designs the context local feature enhancement and fusion module, which uses deep semantic features to dynamically guide shallow local features to realize enhancement and fusion. Finally, this paper proposes an edge feature extraction module for shallow features, which utilizes the complete texture and location information in the shallow features to assist the network to initially locate the target position and edge shape. Artificial intelligence developments are essential to the successful deployment of community-wide, MRI-driven prostate cancer diagnosis. AI systems should ensure that the main benefits of biopsy avoidance are delivered while maintaining consistent high specificities, at a range of disease prevalences. Since all current artificial intelligence / computer-aided detection systems for prostate cancer detection are experimental, multiple developmental efforts are still needed to bring the vision to fruition. Initial work needs to focus on developing systems as diagnostic supporting aids so their results can be integrated into the radiologists' workflow including gland and target outlining tasks for fusion biopsies. Developing AI systems as clinical decision-making tools will require greater efforts. The latter encompass larger multicentric, multivendor datasets where the different needs of patients stratified by diagnostic settings, disease prevalence, patient preference, and clinical setting are considered. AI-based, robust, standard operating procedures will increase the confidence of patients and payers, thus enabling the wider adoption of the MRI-directed approach for prostate cancer diagnosis. Stability in queue characteristics with average power and maximized data processing is a prominent research issue in any networks. These should be ensured even in Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) models where smooth and continuous integration of innovative applications are provided with low latency and improved quality. An offloading plan is required for ensuring this with regulation of processing capacity and network operational cost in edge nodes which will improve the efficiency of the IoT with edge computing. A task-based offloading algorithm is proposed in this paper for taking smart decisions for better resource allocation and augmentation of computational capabilities to the MEC server by allowing mobile devices (MDs) for offloading their intensive computation-based tasks to proximal Multi-eNodeBs (Multi-eNBs) based on the time-varying channel desired state. A wireless MEC devices model which is being used by many users for broadcasting their task is considered. The queue stability and minimizing the consumed energy along with maximizing the reward even under the constrained deadline is maintained by our proposed novel framework, named DCARL–ARP (Deep Convolution Attention Reinforcement Learning–Adaptive Rewarding Policy) which combines the Deep Convolution and Lyapunov optimization with feature map attention mechanism. DCARL–ARP is incorporated for the proper state selection decisions at different time frame. The performance analysis and evaluation prove that the DCARL–ARP has the optimum computation rate which is appropriate for real-time implementation in varying channel conditions. Numerous techniques like Support Vector Machines (SVM), Bayesian Networks (BN), Decision Trees (DT), Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), and Deep Neural Network (DNN) has been broadly utilized in cancer research. As per the current survey, the detection rate is about 99.89%, which shows the prediction models' efficiency and precise decision making. However, it is proven that deep learning and machine learning approaches can enhance cancer progression. An adequate level of estimation is required for such approaches for considering the daily medical practice. This survey analyzes and learns the diverse contributions of cancer prediction models using intelligent approaches. Pineapples are an important agricultural economic crop in Taiwan. Considerable human resources are required to protect pineapples from excessive solar radiation, which could otherwise lead to overheating and subsequent deterioration. Note that simple covering all of the fruit with a paper bag is not a viable solution, due to the fact that it makes it impossible to determine whether the fruit is ripe. This paper proposes a system by which to automate the detection of ripe pineapples. The proposed deep learning architecture enables detection regardless of lighting conditions, achieving accuracy of more than 99.27% with error of less than 2% at distances of 300 ~ 800 mm. Deep learning has achieved remarkable success in a wide range of domains. However, it has not been comprehensively evaluated as a solution for the task of Chinese biomedical named entity recognition (Bio-NER). The traditional deep-learning approach for the Bio-NER task is usually based on the structure of recurrent neural networks (RNN) and only takes word embeddings into consideration, ignoring the value of character-level embeddings to encode the morphological and shape information. We propose an RNN-based approach, WCP-RNN, for the Chinese Bio-NER problem. Our method combines word embeddings and character embeddings to capture orthographic and lexicosemantic features. In addition, POS tags are involved as a priori word information to improve the final performance. The experimental results show our proposed approach outperforms the baseline method; the highest F-scores for subject and lesion detection tasks reach 90.36 and 90.48% with an increase of 3.10 and 2.60% compared with the baseline methods, respectively. Headline generation is a challenging subtask of abstractive text summarization, which its output should be a summary, shorter than one sentence. It would be precious to develop a dataset for the evaluation of abstractive summarization methods on this task in the Persian language. There are several datasets for headline generation in Persian, most of which are not large enough to be used by more sophisticated methods of text summarization, such as deep learning models. Moreover, all of these datasets are focused on daily news and there is no dataset for summarizing scientific Persian papers. In this article, we present "ElmNet," a headline generation dataset of about 400,000 abstract/headline pairs of scientific papers, gathered from six major publishers for scientific articles in Persian. We, moreover, evaluate the performance of the most important deep learning-based headline generation methods, on the proposed dataset. In transportation, roads sometimes have cracks due to overloading and other reasons, which seriously affect driving safety, and it is crucial to identify and fill road cracks in time. Aiming at the defects of existing semantic segmentation models that have degraded the segmentation performance of road crack images and the standard convolution makes it challenging to capture the spatial and channel coupling relationship between pixels. It is difficult to differentiate crack pixels from background pixels in complex backgrounds; this paper proposes a semantic segmentation model for road cracks that combines channel-spatial convolution with the aggregation of frequency features. A new convolutional block is proposed to accurately identify cracked pixels by grouping spatial displacements and convolutional kernel weight dynamization while modeling pixel spatial relationships linked to channel features. To enhance the contrast of crack edges, a frequency domain feature aggregation module is proposed, which uses a simple windowing strategy to solve the problem of mismatch of frequency domain inputs and, at the same time, takes into account the effect of the frequency imaginary part on the features to model the deep frequency features effectively. Finally, a feature refinement module is designed to refine the semantic features to improve the segmentation accuracy. With the global energy shortage, countries all over the world are vigorously developing new energy sources, and photovoltaic glass, as an important raw material for photovoltaic power generation, puts forward higher requirements for its output and quality. In order to solve the problems of low efficiency, susceptibility to interference by human factors, and low detection accuracy during the detection of photovoltaic glass edge defects by traditional manual methods, this paper proposes an automatic detection method of photovoltaic glass edge defects based on machine vision technology. Firstly, a machine vision defect detection system is designed to meet the needs of photovoltaic glass edge defect detection, includes high-contrast imaging solutions with a combination of multiple light sources for illumination and an automated transmission scheme with high stability, and an image dataset is established; Secondly, according to the characteristics of defect detection process with many interfering factors and high requirements for detection efficiency and accuracy, a deep learning defect detection method is proposed to improve the SqueezeNet model, which incorporates dense residual units into the two-part Fire Module of the classical SqueezeNet network model to extract the important feature information of the glass edge image, and effectively avoids the influence of interfering factors, such as water droplets, on the detection of defects. Finally, the improved SqueezeNet network algorithm is applied in the machine vision glass edge defect detection system designed in this paper. The process of retrieving suitable papers which are related to an interesting topic while doing research normally takes a lot of time and effort. Citation recommendation is frequently used to solve this problem by automatically suggesting a list of candidate papers that should match with the user's references or topics of interest. Applying the recent research results of deep learning in multiple disciplines, the performance of citation recommendation systems has been significantly improved with the facilitation of powerful deep neural data analysis and representation learning techniques. However, most of the recent Neural Citation Network (NCN) model-based techniques still encounter limitations related to the capability of integrating auxiliary information to assist the citation contextual learning process. Thus, in this paper, we propose a novel context-aware NCN-based model with the extra textual data integration and Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) model to improve the performance of the citation recommendation task. To do this, an extensive deep neural auto-encoding mechanism with a self-attention-based mechanism is utilized in our proposed model to flexibly learn both associated textual and citation contextual data in the given dataset. These enriched citation contextual information representations are then utilized to improve the performance of the citation recommendation task as the end-to-end neural learning process. The increase in the number of scholarly journals has made it difficult for researchers to choose the correct journal for publishing their articles. Submitting an article to the correct journal is very important in terms of academic sharing and for shortening the publication time of the article. It is time consuming to determine the most suitable journal in scope among thousands of journal choices for the user. Therefore, journal recommendation systems have been an important tool for researchers. Recommendation systems generally depend on the user's publications, relationships with other authors, etc. The fact that it is based on features makes it not useful for users who are new to the research field. In this study, an approach that recommends a journal is proposed by using the title, abstract, keyword and reference information of the article, without the need of users' information. Unlike other studies, the scope information of the journals is needed to determine the appropriate journals for the article, which is usually obtained from the articles previously published in the related journals. The publications of the journals in the last 3 years have been used to determine the scope of the journal. Unlike the publishers' journal recommendation systems developed so far, this study is a comprehensive recommendation system that includes journals from more than one publisher. In this approach, SBERT has been used to find the similarity of the scope of journals with articles. When the results are compared with the Word2vec, Glove and FastText, which are often the preferred methods in document similarity, it was observed that sentence-level similarity-based recommendations with SBERT are more successful. Since 2000, there have been more than 8000 publications on radiology artificial intelligence (AI). AI breakthroughs allow complex tasks to be automated and even performed beyond human capabilities. However, the lack of details on the methods and algorithm code undercuts its scientific value. Many science subfields have recently faced a reproducibility crisis, eroding trust in processes and results, and influencing the rise in retractions of scientific papers. For the same reasons, conducting research in deep learning (DL) also requires reproducibility. Although several valuable manuscript checklists for AI in medical imaging exist, they are not focused specifically on reproducibility. In this study, we conducted a systematic review of recently published papers in the field of DL to evaluate if the description of their methodology could allow the reproducibility of their findings. We focused on the Journal of Digital Imaging (JDI), a specialized journal that publishes papers on AI and medical imaging. We used the keyword "Deep Learning" and collected the articles published between January 2020 and January 2022. We screened all the articles and included the ones which reported the development of a DL tool in medical imaging. We extracted the reported details about the dataset, data handling steps, data splitting, model details, and performance metrics of each included article. We found 148 articles. Eighty were included after screening for articles that reported developing a DL model for medical image analysis. Five studies have made their code publicly available, and 35 studies have utilized publicly available datasets. We provided figures to show the ratio and absolute count of reported items from included studies. Logistics parcel detection technology is critical for unmanned sorting. YOLOv5, the state-of-the-art (SOTA) object detection model, is a classic network widely used in engineering. However, on the premise of fast and accurate detection of logistics parcels, it confronts certain challenges of high computing load and parameter quantity. To address these issues, this paper proposes a two-scale lightweight deep learning model named SFYOLOv5. In this article, a lightweight feature extraction module called Pruned-Shuffle-Block (PSB) is proposed. Meanwhile, a double-layer pyramid structure for the medium and large target detection is created in accordance with the image size distribution of logistics parcels. With this structure, the Floating Point of Operations (FLOPs) and parameters in feature extraction were significantly reduced. In addition, a down sampling module named Focus for Downsampling (FFD) is designed and attention modules are introduced to extract high-level semantic information in logistics parcels. These modules not only compensate for the loss caused by down sampling but also improve the mean Average Precision (mAP). Finally, the comparison experiment is performed by using the self-built logistics parcel dataset. The results show that the mAP of the model reaches 99.1%, the number of model parameters decreased by 92.14%, and the FLOPs decreased by 89.57% compared with the existing SOTA model. Weld seam detection is an important part of automated welding. At present, few studies have been conducted on annular weld seams, and a lot of defects exist in the point cloud model of the tube sheet obtained by RGB-D cameras and photography methods. Aiming at the above problems, this paper proposed an annular weld seam detection network named WeldNet where a voxel feature encoding layer was adaptively improved for annular weld seams, the sparse convolutional network and region proposal network (RPN) were used to detect annular weld seam position, and an annular weld seam detection loss function was designed. Further, an annular weld seam dataset was established to train the network. Compared with the random sampling consistency (RANSAC) method, WeldNet has a higher detection accuracy, as well as a higher detection success rate which has increased by 23%. Traffic sign recognition, as one of the key steps of intelligent driving technologies, effectively avoids most traffic accidents by detecting the location and type of traffic signs in real time and providing the information to drivers or autonomous vehicles promptly. In addition, edge devices close to users has become an inevitable requirement for the development of IoT technology, real-time computing and the realization of network edge intelligence. Nowadays, the YOLO algorithm in object detection, developed to YOLOv8, is accompanied by various lightweight networks and lightweight methods to win by "fast", so this paper will propose an algorithm, fusing Ghost module and Efficient Multi-Scale Attention Module into YOLOv8, so that the model can improve the computing speed while maintaining the original characteristics. Furthermore, we choose Raspberry Pi as the object detection device due to its many characteristics such as lightweight, low power consumption. Through experiments, the model is trained on CCTSDB dataset, and the improved algorithm is tested on Raspberry Pi 4B. The results show that for three types of traffic signs, namely prohibited, indication and warning, the recognition accuracy mAP reaches 93.5% on the poor weather test set and 82.9% on the original test set, and the inference delay of Raspberry Pi reaches 0.79 s, which is effective in actual road test experiments. The improved model's accuracy has increased by 6.4% and 3.8% on two separate test sets compared to the original model, while the detection time has been reduced by 0.12 s. Recognition and extraction of elements from house plans present significant challenges in the construction, decoration and interior design industries. To address this issue, this paper proposes a wall segmentation system for house plans that integrates deep learning and traditional methods. The system comprises several components, such as image preprocessing, main region extraction, wall segmentation and optimisation of wall smoothing. The study combined the rapidity of the traditional method with the robustness of deep learning to enable the extraction of walls from varied image styles and perform smoothing optimisation. The paper demonstrates that the proposed segmentation technique delivers an 89% mean intersection over union, a 94% detection rate and a 96% recognition accuracy. The Internet era is an era of information explosion. By 2022, the global Internet users have reached more than 4 billion, and the social media users have exceeded 3 billion. People face a lot of news content every day, and it is almost impossible to get interesting information by browsing all the news content. Under this background, personalized news recommendation technology has been widely used, but it still needs to be further optimized and improved. In order to better push the news content of interest to different readers, users' satisfaction with major news websites should be further improved. This study proposes a new recommendation algorithm based on deep learning and reinforcement learning. Firstly, the RL algorithm is introduced based on deep learning. Deep learning is excellent in processing large-scale data and complex pattern recognition, but it often faces the challenge of low sample efficiency when it comes to complex decision-making and sequential tasks. While reinforcement learning (RL) emphasizes learning optimization strategies through continuous trial and error through interactive learning with the environment. Compared with deep learning, RL is more suitable for scenes that need long-term decision-making and trial-and-error learning. By feeding back the reward signal of the action, the system can better adapt to the unknown environment and complex tasks, which makes up for the relative shortcomings of deep learning in these aspects. A scenario is applied to an action to solve the sequential decision problem in the news dissemination process. In order to enable the news recommendation system to consider the dynamic changes in users' interest in news content, the Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient algorithm is applied to the news recommendation scenario. Opposing learning complements and combines Deep Q-network with the strategic network. On the basis of fully summarizing and thinking, this paper puts forward the mode of intelligent news dissemination and push. The push process of news communication information based on edge computing technology is proposed. Finally, based on Area Under Curve a Q-Leaning Area Under Curve for RL models is proposed. This indicator can measure the strengths and weaknesses of RL models efficiently and facilitates comparing models and evaluating offline experiments. Defect detection systems based on machine vision have been widely used as an essential part of intelligent manufacturing systems. However, in traditional object detection methods that rely on images as input, differences in defect areas, blurred images, and complex background interference can seriously impair detection accuracy. To meet these challenges, this paper proposed a dual-path neural network based on shearlet transform (STDPNet) by taking advantage of shearlet transform in multi-scale analysis and combining it with the improved object detection algorithm proposed in this paper. First, images are multi-scale and multi-directional decomposed with shearlet transform, and multi-directional sub-band information is input to the detection network instead of image information. Then, this paper proposed a dual-path object detection network for the differences between different frequency bands and introduced a transfer learning strategy between paths to improve the model performance. Finally, the training results on the NEU surface defect public dataset show that the mean average precision of STDPNet achieves 86.81% at a detection speed of 44.45 f/s, which exceeds that of Faster R-CNN by 12%. Experiments on different datasets prove that the accuracy is significantly superior to other models, and the proposed method is more advantageous compared to other models in large, fuzzy, and indistinguishable defect types. In the field of deep learning, the attention mechanism, as a technology that mimics human perception and attention processes, has made remarkable achievements. The current methods combine a channel attention mechanism and a spatial attention mechanism in a parallel or cascaded manner to enhance the model representational competence, but they do not fully consider the interaction between spatial and channel information. This paper proposes a method in which a space embedded channel module and a channel embedded space module are cascaded to enhance the model's representational competence. First, in the space embedded channel module, to enhance the representational competence of the region of interest in different spatial dimensions, the input tensor is split into horizontal and vertical branches according to spatial dimensions to alleviate the loss of position information when performing 2D pooling. To smoothly process the features and highlight the local features, four branches are obtained through global maximum and average pooling, and the features are aggregated by different pooling methods to obtain two feature tensors with different pooling methods. To enable the output horizontal and vertical feature tensors to focus on different pooling features simultaneously, the two feature tensors are segmented and dimensionally transposed according to spatial dimensions, and the features are later aggregated along the spatial direction. Then, in the channel embedded space module, for the problem of no cross-channel connection between groups in grouped convolution and for which the parameters are large, this paper uses adaptive grouped banded matrices. Based on the banded matrices utilizing the mapping relationship that exists between the number of channels and the size of the convolution kernels, the convolution kernel size is adaptively computed to achieve adaptive cross-channel interaction, enhancing the correlation between the channel dimensions while ensuring that the spatial dimensions remain unchanged. Finally, the output horizontal and vertical weights are used as attention weights. In the experiment, the attention mechanism module proposed in this paper is embedded into the MobileNetV2 and ResNet networks at different depths, and extensive experiments are conducted on the CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100 and STL-10 datasets. The results show that the method in this paper captures and utilizes the features of the input data more effectively than the other methods, significantly improving the classification accuracy. Despite the introduction of an additional computational burden (0.5 M), however, the overall performance of the model still achieves the best results when the computational overhead is comprehensively considered. With the rapid development of deep learning technology, an increasing number of people are adopting palmprint recognition algorithms based on deep learning for identity authentication. However, these algorithms are susceptible to factors such as palm placement, light source, and insufficient data sampling, resulting in poor recognition accuracy. To address these issues, this paper proposes a new end-to-end deep palmprint recognition algorithm (SSLAUL), which introduces self-supervised representation learning based on contextual prediction, utilizing unlabeled palmprint data for pre-training before introducing the trained parameters into the downstream model for fine-tuning. An uncertainty loss function is introduced into the downstream model, using the homoskedastic uncertainty as a benchmark to do adaptive weight adjustment for different loss functions dynamically. In this paper, we recognize serial numbers on banknotes using deep learning. The samples used in this paper are digital images which have been preprocessed with data labelling and data augmentation, e.g., scaling transformation, etc. The algorithms based on deep learning are proposed and have the stability for serial number recognition with complex backgrounds. In this paper, a pipeline of deep neural networks is established for the recognition of banknote serial numbers. Because high reliability is more important than accuracy in financial applications, DenseNet is set forth as the primary classifier, the scaling transformation of SegLink is put forward to locate the characters, the detection rate is up to 95.80%. We present a deep learning-based framework to design and quantify point-of-care sensors. As a use-case, we demonstrated a low-cost and rapid paper-based vertical flow assay (VFA) for high sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP) testing, commonly used for assessing risk of cardio-vascular disease (CVD). A machine learning-based framework was developed to (1) determine an optimal configuration of immunoreaction spots and conditions, spatially-multiplexed on a sensing membrane, and (2) to accurately infer target analyte concentration. Using a custom-designed handheld VFA reader, a clinical study with 85 human samples showed a competitive coefficient-of-variation of 11.2% and linearity of R2 = 0.95 among blindly-tested VFAs in the hsCRP range (i.e., 0–10 mg/L). We also demonstrated a mitigation of the hook-effect due to the multiplexed immunoreactions on the sensing membrane.
