- Abstract
Encoding quantum information in spins embedded in semiconductors (electronic, ionic, or nuclear) offers several potential approaches towards solid-state quantum computation. Electronic spin transport, persistence and manipulation in nonmagnetic semiconductor materials, as well as the interaction of electronic spins with optics, are the fundamental properties reviewed here. The presentation focuses on the material properties important for implementing quantum computation, and on the characteristics that may lead more rapidly to scalable solutions for quantum information processing.
