The magnetochemical behavior of the cis-[CuCl2(DMSO)2] complex was analyzed. cis-Complex crystals were found to be perfectly paramagnetic above 50 K and only weak magnetic ordering (antiferromagnetic) was observed below 10 K. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

N nuclear quadrupole resonance (N NQR) of several commercially available paracetamol tablets was measured. The spectra of two polymorphs are presented. The linewidths of the correspondent N NQR lines in all the measured samples containing the room-temperature stable monoclinic polymorph were noticeably different. We proved experimentally that the linewidth differences are the consequence of different compacting pressure in the production of tablets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A simple continuous-wave parallel to pulse version of a multifrequency nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) device was constructed and tested: two orthogonal radio-frequency (RF) fields were applied simultaneously at two suitable frequencies to a multilevel quadrupole probe ( I⋝1). A modified superregenerative NQR oscillator-detector (SRO) was utilized. An additional coil and RF source were used to irradiate the sample at the second frequency. After tuning the SRO to a chosen NQR line, the signal proportional to the population difference of the corresponding pair of energy levels was monitored. When another suitable transition was saturated simultaneously, sharing one level with the monitored line, the corresponding population change was also reflected in the first signal intensity change. In the correlation method the signal shape information can be utilized for detection of weak signals, hidden in the noise. We tested the advantages, drawbacks and some practical features of the method applied to magnetic resonance detection. The influence of the signal width, shape and similarity to the template on the correlation function was studied by numerical simulation. The findings were applied to the optimization of the template for improved localization of a noisy14N nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) line in NaNO2 during repetitive scans by a superregenerative spectrometer. Investigations were carried out into whether an equivalent generator consisting of two dipoles could be used to detect dual sites of ventricular activity. A computer model of the human ventricular myocardium was used to simulate activation sequences initiated at eight different pairs of sites positioned on the epicardial surface of the atrio-ventricular ring. From these sequences, 117-lead body surface potentials (covering the anterior and posterior torso), 64-lead magnetic field maps (above the anterior chest) and 128-lead magnetic field maps (above the anterior and posterior chest) were simulated and were then used to localise dual accessory pathways employing pairs of equivalent dipoles. Average localisation errors were 12 mm, 12 mm and 9 mm, respectively, when body surface potentials, 64-lead and 128-lead magnetic fields were used. The results of the study suggest that solving the inverse problem for two dipoles could provide additional information on dual accessory pathways prior to electrophysiological study. Abstract A superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) multichannel magnetometer was used to measure the temporal and spatial evolution of the magnetic field accompanying stimulation by burning and/or cutting of Vicia faba plants. These magnetic fields are caused by ionic currents that appear after injury in different parts of the plant. All measured V. faba plants responded to the burning stimulation with detectable quasi-d.c, magnetic signals. In order to measure these signals, a suitable modulation had to be used. The covariance method was applied to analyse the measured data. The results demonstrate a dipolar-like magnetic signal, exponentially decreasing in time, above the cutting type of injury. After the burning stimulation, the magnetically detected activity was concentrated predominantly above the leaves/petioles and less above the stem. Possible mechanisms for this behaviour are suggested. A comparison with previously known electrical measurements of plant injury is given. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
