Considering the challenge posed by formidable mining pressure in the exploitation of island working faces, this study focuses on the control difficulties encountered in mining roadways. With the island working face 15,102 serving as the engineering context, the research delves into the lateral roof structure of the island working face. It scrutinizes the formation of the lateral roof structure after the breaking of overlying strata in the island working face, investigates the stress transfer and action mechanisms inherent in this lateral roof structure, and elucidates the patterns of stress evolution on the mining roadway. A judicious mining roadway control technology is then suggested to create a safe working environment for island working face mining. The results indicate that there are two distinct zones on the lateral roof of the island working face: the elastic deformation zone and the moving deformation zone. It is the latter that primarily contributes to the deformation and instability of the mining roadway. The elastic deformation zone acts as an intermediary stress propagation carrier, transmitting both the stress of the moving deformation zone and the mining influence to the mining roadway. Regardless of the stress component type, Key Stratum I (KS I) significantly impacts the lower coal, as evidenced by the analysis of various stress evolution programs for KS I and II. To address this, a mining roadway stability control technology is proposed for the island working face. This includes the determination of roof-cutting parameters and the definition of a stability scheme for the roof-cutting protection roadway. These measures serve as a valuable reference for enhancing mining roadway stability control in similar island working faces. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
