Abstract Background Androgenic alopecia (AGA) is the most common type of hair loss in men, and there are many studies on the treatment of hair loss by platelet‐rich plasma (PRP). The human scalp contains a huge microbiome, but its role in the process of hair loss remains unclear, and the relationship between PRP and the microbiome needs further study. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of PRP treatment on scalp microbiota composition. Methods We performed PRP treatment on 14 patients with AGA, observed their clinical efficacy, and collected scalp swab samples before and after treatment. The scalp microflora of AGA patients before and after treatment was characterized by amplifying the V3‐V4 region of the 16 s RNA gene and sequencing for bacterial identification. Results The results showed that PRP was effective in the treatment of AGA patients, and the hair growth increased significantly. The results of relative abundance analysis of microbiota showed that after treatment, g_Cutibacterium increased and g_Staphylococcus decreased, which played a stable role in scalp microbiota. In addition, g_Lawsonella decreased, indicating that the scalp oil production decreased after treatment. Conclusions The findings suggest that PRP may play a role in treating AGA through scalp microbiome rebalancing.

Abstract Background Long‐term overgrazing has led to severe degradation of grasslands, posing a significant threat to the sustainable use of grassland resources. Methods Based on the investigation of changes in functional traits and photosynthetic physiology of Stipa breviflora under no grazing, moderate grazing, and heavy grazing treatments, the changes in expression patterns of genes and proteins associated with different grazing intensities were assessed through integrative transcriptomic and proteomic analyses. Results Differentially expressed genes and proteins were identified under different grazing intensities. They were mainly related to RNA processing, carbon metabolism, and secondary metabolite biosynthesis. These findings suggest that long‐term grazing leads to molecular phenotypic plasticity, affecting various biological processes and metabolic pathways in S. breviflora. Correlation analysis revealed low correlation between the transcriptome and the proteome, indicating a large‐scale regulation of gene expression at the posttranscriptional and translational levels during the response of S. breviflora to grazing. The expression profiles of key genes and proteins involved in photosynthesis and phenylpropanoid metabolism pathways suggested their synergistic response to grazing in S. breviflora. Conclusions Our study provides insight into the adaptation mechanisms of S. breviflora to grazing and provides a scientific basis for the development of more efficient grassland protection and utilization practices.

ABSTRACT The Changle goose (CLG), a Chinese indigenous breed, is celebrated for its adaptability, rapid growth, and premium meat quality. Despite its agricultural value, the exploration of its genomic attributes has been scant. Our study entailed whole‐genome resequencing of 303 geese across CLG and five other Chinese breeds, revealing distinct genetic diversity metrics. We discovered significant migration events from Xingguo gray goose to CLG and minor gene flow between them. We identified genomic regions through selective sweep analysis, correlating with CLG's unique traits. An elevated inbreeding coefficient in CLG, alongside reduced heterozygosity and rare single nucleotide polymorphisms (RSNPs), suggests a narrowed genetic diversity. Genomic regions related to reproduction, meat quality, and growth were identified, with the GATA3 gene showing strong selection signals for meat quality. A non‐synonymous mutation in the Sloc2a1 gene, which is associated with reproductive traits in the CLG, exhibited significant differences in allelic frequency. The roles of CD82, CDH8, and PRKAB1 in growth and development, alongside FABP4, FAF1, ESR1, and AKAP12 in reproduction, were highlighted. Additionally, Cdkal1 and Mfsd14a may influence meat quality. This comprehensive genetic analysis underpins the unique genetic makeup of CLG, providing a basis for its conservation and informed breeding strategies.

Abstract Fusarium wilt (FW) is widespread in global cotton production, but the mechanism underlying FW resistance in superior‐fiber‐quality Sea Island cotton is unclear. This study reveals that FW resistance has been the target of genetic improvement of Sea Island cotton in China since the 2010s. The key nonsynonymous single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP, T/C) of gene Gbar_D03G001670 encoding protein phosphatase 2C 80 (PP2C80) results in an amino acid shift (L/S), which is significantly associated with FW resistance of Sea Island cotton. Silencing GbPP2C80 increases FW resistance in Sea Island cotton, whereas overexpressing GbPP2C80 reduces FW resistance in Arabidopsis. GbPP2C80 and GbWAKL14 exist synergistically in Sea Island cotton accessions with haplotype forms “susceptible–susceptible” (TA) and “resistant–resistant” (CC), and interact with each other. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated knockout of GbWAKL14 enhances FW and Verticillium wilt (VW) resistance in upland cotton and overexpression of GbWAKL14 and GbPP2C80 weakens FW and VW resistance in Arabidopsis. GbPP2C80 and GbWAKL14 respond to FW and VW by modulating reactive oxygen species (ROS) content via affecting MPK3 expression. In summary, two tandem genes on chromosome D03, GbPP2C80, and GbWAKL14, functions as cooperative negative regulators in cotton wilt disease defense, providing novel genetic resources and molecular markers for the development of resistant cotton cultivars.

Abstract This study assesses the reliability and limitations of the Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) in detecting continuing currents by comparing observations from ground‐based high‐speed cameras with GLM‐16 data. Our findings show that the GLM's one‐group detection efficiency (DE_1) is 53%, while the more stringent five‐consecutive‐group detection efficiency (DE_5) is 10%. Optical signals detected by the GLM predominantly occur during the early stages of continuing currents. Additionally, there is a notable disparity in detection efficiencies between positive and negative continuing currents, with positive continuing currents being detected more frequently. The application of the logistic regression model developed by Fairman and Bitzer (2022) further illustrates the limitations in continuing current identification. The study underscores the challenges of relying solely on satellite data to monitor and analyze continuing currents, emphasizing the need for advancements in detection technologies and methodologies to reliably detect continuing current at a large spatial scale.

Abstract Oxidative stress and the immune microenvironment both contribute to the pathogenesis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). However, their interrelationships remain poorly understood. We aimed to examine the status of key molecules involved in oxidative stress and the immune microenvironment, as well as their relationships with each other and with clinicopathological features and prognosis in ESCC. The expression of programmed death‐ligand 1 (PD‐L1), CD8, nuclear factor erythroid‐2 related factor‐2 (NRF2), and NAD(P)H quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) was detected using immunohistochemistry in tissue samples from 176 patients with ESCC. We employed both combined positive score (CPS) and tumor proportion score (TPS) to evaluate PD‐L1 expression and found a positive correlation between CPS and TPS. Notably, PD‐L1 expression, as assessed by either CPS or TPS, was positively correlated with both NRF2 nuclear score and NQO1 score in stage II–IV ESCC. We also observed a positive correlation between the density of CD8+ T cells and PD‐L1 expression. Furthermore, high levels of PD‐L1 CPS, but not TPS, were associated with advanced TNM stage and lymph node metastases. Moreover, both PD‐L1 CPS and the nuclear expression of NRF2 were found to be predictive of shorter overall survival in stage II–IV ESCC. By using the Mandard‐tumor regression grading (TRG) system to evaluate the pathological response of tumors to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT), we found that the TRG‐5 group had higher NRF2 nuclear score, PD‐L1 CPS, and TPS in pre‐NACT biopsy samples compared with the TRG‐3 + 4 group. The NQO1 scores of post‐NACT surgical specimens were significantly higher in the TRG‐5 group than in the TRG 3 + 4 group. In conclusion, the expression of PD‐L1 is associated with aberrant NRF2 signaling pathway, advanced TNM stage, lymph node metastases, and unfavorable prognosis. The dysregulation of PD‐L1 and aberrant activation of the NRF2 signaling pathway are implicated in resistance to NACT. Our findings shed light on the complex interrelationships between oxidative stress and the immune microenvironment in ESCC, which may have implications for personalized therapies and improved patient outcomes.

Abstract Efficiently generating 3D holograms is one of the most challenging research topics in the field of holography. This work introduces a method for generating multi‐depth phase‐only holograms using a fully convolutional neural network (FCN). The method primarily involves a forward–backward‐diffraction framework to compute multi‐depth diffraction fields, along with a layer‐by‐layer replacement method (L2RM) to handle occlusion relationships. The diffraction fields computed by the former are fed into the carefully designed FCN, which leverages its powerful non‐linear fitting capability to generate multi‐depth holograms of 3D scenes. The latter can smooth the boundaries of different layers in scene reconstruction by complementing information of occluded objects, thus enhancing the reconstruction quality of holograms. The proposed method can generate a multi‐depth 3D hologram with a PSNR of 31.8 dB in just 90 ms for a resolution of 2160 × 3840 on the NVIDIA Tesla A100 40G tensor core GPU. Additionally, numerical and experimental results indicate that the generated holograms accurately reconstruct clear 3D scenes with correct occlusion relationships and provide excellent depth focusing.

Abstract The simultaneous detection of multiple stimuli, such as pressure and temperature, has long been a persistent challenge for developing electronic skin (e‐skin) to emulate the functionality of human skin. Meanwhile, the demand for integrated power supply units is an additional pressing concern to achieve its lightweightness and flexibility. Herein, we propose a self‐powered dual temperature–pressure (SPDM) sensor, which utilizes a compressible ionic gel electrolyte driven by the potential difference between MXene and Al electrodes. The SPDM sensor exhibits a rapid and timely response to changes in pressure‐induced deformation, while exhibiting a slow and hysteretic response to temperature variations. These distinct response characteristics enable the differentiation of current signals generated by different stimuli through machine learning, resulting in an impressive accuracy rate of 99.1%. Furthermore, the developed SPDM sensor exhibits a wide pressure detection range of 0–800 kPa and a broad temperature detection range of 5–75°C, encompassing the environmental conditions encountered in daily human life. The dual‐mode coupled strategy by machine learning provides an effective approach for temperature and pressure detection and discrimination, showcasing its potential applications in wearable electronics, intelligent robots, human–machine interactions, and so on.

Abstract Spider silk proteins (spidroins) are particularly attractive due to their excellent biocompatibility. Spider can produce up to seven different types of spidroins, each with unique properties and functions. Spider minor ampullate silk protein (MiSp) might be particularly interesting for biomedical applications, as the constituent silk is mechanically strong and does not super‐contract in water, attributed to its amino acid composition. In this study, we evaluate the potential of recombinant nanoparticles derived from Araneus ventricosus MiSp as a protein delivery carrier. The MiSp‐based nanoparticles were able to serve as an effective delivery system, achieving nearly 100% efficiency in loading the model protein lysozyme, and displayed a sustained release profile at physiological pH. These nanoparticles could significantly improve the delivery efficacy of the model proteins through different administration routes. Furthermore, nanoparticles loaded with model protein antigen lysozyme after subcutaneous or intramuscular administration could enhance antigen‐specific immune responses in mouse models, through a mechanism involving antigen‐depot effects at the injection site, long‐term antigen persistence, and efficient uptake by dendritic cells as well as internalization by lymph nodes. These findings highlight the transnational potential of MiSp‐based nanoparticle system for protein drug and vaccine delivery.

Abstract Tritium present in deep vadose zones is a useful tracer for estimating groundwater recharge, but its full utility is constrained by not knowing where and for how long the tritium tracing method remains applicable. We obtained 44 tritium profiles from 17 globally distributed sites with vadose zone thicknesses of 12–624 m and used transport models to estimate the number of years that tritium may still be useful. Results show that the method may still be usable for 26 of 44 soil profiles surveyed, mainly in China, Australia, the United States, South Africa, and Senegal, with a remaining useful period of between 6 and 83 years. We also developed a statistical model that uses outputs from a hydrological model to predict the applicability of the tritium tracing method. Global implementation of the statistical model showed that the method remains usable at 20% of Earth's land mass (excluding Antarctica and Greenland) over the next few decades.

Abstract Objective The purpose of the study is to construct meaningful nomogram models according to the independent prognostic factor for metastatic pancreatic cancer receiving chemotherapy. Methods This study is retrospective and consecutively included 143 patients from January 2013 to June 2021. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve with the area under the curve (AUC) is utilized to determine the optimal cut‐off value. The Kaplan–Meier survival analysis, univariate and multivariable Cox regression analysis are exploited to identify the correlation of inflammatory biomarkers and clinicopathological features with survival. R software are run to construct nomograms based on independent risk factors to visualize survival. Nomogram model is examined using calibration curve and decision curve analysis (DCA). Results The best cut‐off values of 966.71, 0.257, and 2.54 for the systemic immunological inflammation index (SII), monocyte‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (MLR), and neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR) were obtained by ROC analysis. Cox proportional‐hazards model revealed that baseline SII, history of drinking and metastasis sites were independent prognostic indices for survival. We established prognostic nomograms for primary endpoints of this study. The nomograms' predictive potential and clinical efficacy have been evaluated by calibration curves and DCA. Conclusion We constructed nomograms based on independent prognostic factors, these models have promising applications in clinical practice to assist clinicians in personalizing the management of patients.

Abstract The engineering of ferroic orders, which involves the evolution of atomic structure and local ferroic configuration in the development of next‐generation electronic devices. Until now, diverse polarization structures and topological domains are obtained in ferroelectric thin films or heterostructures, and the polarization switching and subsequent domain nucleation are found to be more conducive to building energy‐efficient and multifunctional polarization structures. In this work, a continuous and periodic strain in a flexible freestanding BaTiO3 membrane to achieve a zigzag morphology is introduced. The polar head/tail boundaries and vortex/anti‐vortex domains are constructed by a compressive strain as low as ≈0.5%, which is extremely lower than that used in epitaxial rigid ferroelectrics. Overall, this study c efficient polarization structures, which is of both theoretical value and practical significance for the development of next‐generation flexible multifunctional devices.

Abstract Responsive feeding serves as an important protective factor for infant growth and overall health development. This study based on self‐determination theory (SDT) aimed to assess the effects of a responsive breastfeeding (RBF) intervention programme on maternal breastfeeding and infant growth and development. A total of 110 mother–infant pairs were recruited and randomly divided into an intervention group (n = 55) and a control group (n = 55). The primary outcomes were breastfeeding motivation score, breastfeeding self‐efficacy (BSE) and exclusive breastfeeding rate; the secondary outcomes were infant physical development at 6 weeks and 3 months. ABSTRACT Importance Type D esophageal atresia (EA) with tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) is characterized by EA with both proximal and distal TEFs. It is a rare congenital anomaly with a very low incidence. Objective To investigate diagnostic and treatment strategies for this rare condition. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the clinicopathological features of patients with EA/TEF treated at our institution between January 2007 and September 2021. Results Among 386 patients with EA/TEF, 14 (3.6%) had type D EA/TEF. Only two patients were diagnosed with proximal TEF preoperatively. Seven patients were diagnosed intraoperatively. Five patients were missed for diagnosis during the initial surgery but was later confirmed by bronchoscopy. During the neonatal period, seven patients underwent a one‐stage repair of proximal and distal TEF via thoracoscopy or thoracotomy. Due to missed diagnosis and other reasons, the other 7 patients underwent two‐stage surgery for repair of the proximal TEF, including cervical incision and thoracoscopy. Ten of the 14 patients experienced postoperative complications including anastomotic leakage, pneumothorax, esophageal stricture, and recurrence. Patients who underwent one‐stage repair of distal and proximal TEF during the neonatal period showed a higher incidence of anastomotic leak (4/7). In contrast, only one of seven patients with two‐stage repair of the proximal TEF developed an anastomotic leak. Interpretation Type D EA/TEF is a rare condition, and proximal TEFs are easily missed. Bronchoscopy may aim to diagnose and determine the correct surgical approach. A cervical approach may be more suitable for repairing the proximal TEF.

Abstract As one of the most attractive next‐generation probiotics, mucin‐degrading Akkermansia muciniphila has emerged as an essential and integral factor in maintaining human health and affecting pathological outcomes. Its abundance is inversely associated with various metabolic diseases (e.g., obesity and type 2 diabetes), cardiovascular diseases, and intestinal inflammation. Supplementing A. muciniphila to restore the gut microbiota ecosystem is a promising approach for treating metabolic disorders. However, the direct utilization of this probiotic is limited by technological and regulatory hurdles, such as the in vitro bulk culture of A. muciniphila and the need for expensive animal‐derived materials. Therefore, enrichment of A. muciniphila using nutraceutical supplements is a feasible strategy. Dietary supplements, especially medicinal herbs, offer a vast and valuable resource as potential prebiotics for promoting the growth of A. muciniphila in the gut, ensuring reliable safety and efficacy. In this study, we first systemically reviewed the dietary substances and medicinal foods known to promote A. muciniphila from over 100 literature sources, aiming to establish a candidate basis for future exploration of prebiotics targeting A. muciniphila. Furthermore, we summarized and discussed the major regulatory factors and mechanisms responsible for the beneficial effect of A. muciniphila on metabolic disorders, hoping to open up exciting directions for in‐depth research on the pharmacological mechanism of A. muciniphila and pave the way for its clinical therapeutics.

Abstract Background The optimal timing of thoracic radiotherapy (TRT) in driver‐gene‐negative metastatic non‐small cell lung cancer (mNSCLC) patients was retrospectively investigated based on survival and safety profile. Methods The efficacy and safety data of driver‐gene‐negative mNSCLC patients treated with TRT during maintenance after first‐line therapy was collected. Patients whose primary tumor and metastatic lesions remained no progression during maintenance and then received TRT were categorized as the NP (no progression) group, while patients who experienced slow progression during maintenance without reaching progressive disease and then received TRT were categorized as the SP (slow progression) group. The efficacy and adverse events of TRT were analyzed. Results In total, 149 driver‐gene‐negative mNSCLC patients treated with TRT during maintenance were enrolled into the study, with 119 in the NP group and 30 in the SP group. After a median follow‐up of 30.83 (range: 26.62–35.04) months, the median progression‐free survival (PFS) in the NP group was 11.13 versus 9.53 months in the SP group (HR 0.599, p = 0.017). The median overall survival (OS) in the NP group was 32.27 versus 25.57 months in the SP group (HR 0.637, p = 0.088). The median PFS after radiotherapy (rPFS) was 6.33 versus 3.90 months (HR 0.288, p 0.05). Conclusion The addition of TRT during the pre‐emptive no progression phase was associated with a significantly longer PFS than during the delayed slow progression phase and had an acceptable safety profile. Our results might support the earlier initiation of TRT after induction therapy for some patients with driver‐gene‐negative mNSCLC.

Abstract Mechanical antennas have garnered considerable attention due to their ability to address the challenges posed by the significant size and high energy consumption associated with traditional electric antennas when operating at low frequencies. Here, a compact and structurally stable mechanical antenna design is presented. The proposed antenna is constructed using cylindrical piezoelectric ceramics, which have dimensions smaller than 1/1000 of the wavelength. The scrutiny of the influence exerted by the antenna feed area and material thickness on the radiation performance was undertaken, followed by an exhaustive discourse on these effects. Experimental measurements demonstrate the practical functionalities of signal coding, transmission, and reception in the low‐frequency communication system. Notably, at a frequency of 288 kHz, a single proposed antenna achieves an effective information transmission distance of 60 m using binary information coding. This remarkable outcome underscores the potential of this design in facilitating the development of portable and cost‐effective wireless communication equipment for low‐frequency applications.

ABSTRACT Aims/Introduction An overrepresentation of epilepsy has been suggested in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D). This meta‐analysis was conducted to evaluate if type 1 diabetes is associated with a higher incidence of epilepsy. Materials and Methods Longitudinal observational studies which are relevant to the purpose of the meta‐analysis were screened and obtained by searching PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases. Random‐effects models were used when significant heterogeneity was observed; otherwise, fixed‐effects models were used. Results Six observational studies involving 10 datasets of 8,001,899 participants were included, with six datasets including children and only one dataset including older people. Among them, 100,414 (1.25%) had type 1 diabetes. During the follow‐up duration of 5.4–15.2 years (mean: 9.5 years), 98,644 cases (1.23%) of epilepsy were observed. Compared with participants with normoglycemia, those with type 1 diabetes were shown to have a higher incidence of epilepsy (risk ratio [RR]: 2.41, 95% confidence interval 1.69–3.44, P

Abstract Solid‐state high voltage high repetitive pulse generators have a broad prospect in various applications. The high power and high‐frequency operation of the pulse generator suffer from the massive heat dissipation problem, which limits the improvement of the output parameters and even affects the lifetime. This article focuses on heat management technology for high voltage high repetitive pulse generators. Firstly, the typical circuit topology of the high repetitive pulse generators was summarised. From the perspective of different application requirements, the demands of the heat management design were concluded. Moreover, the heat generation characteristics and difficulties of solid‐state high voltage high repetitive pulse generators were analysed. Then, the different state‐of‐art cooling techniques were reviewed, and their applicability and limitations for the high voltage high repetitive generators were discussed. Finally, a flow chart for heat management design was given.

Abstract Cichoric acid (CA), a natural phenolic compound found in many plants, has been reported to have antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, hypoglycemic, and other effects. The aim of this study was to determine the potential role and underlying mechanisms of CA in isoproterenol (ISO)‐induced myocardial fibrosis (MF). The MF model was induced by subcutaneous ISO injection in mice. Blood and heart tissue were collected for examination. Hematoxylin and eosin staining and Masson's trichrome staining were used to evaluate the histopathological changes and collagen deposition. The production of reactive oxygen species markers was observed by fluorescence microscopy, the degree of cardiomyocyte microstructure injury was observed by transmission electron microscope, and oxidative stress factors were detected by kit method, and the effect of CA on inflammatory factors was detected by ELISA. The expression levels of collagen proteins and signaling pathways were further investigated by western blotting. The results showed that CA inhibited the expression of ISO‐induced proinflammatory factors (TNF‐α, IL‐1β, and IL‐18) and proteins (HK1, NLRP3, caspase‐1, cleaved‐caspase‐1, and ASC), and regulated the expression of apoptotic factors (caspase‐3, cleaved‐caspase‐3, Bax, and Bcl‐2). The results indicated that CA may regulate the HK1/NLRP3 inflammasome pathway by inhibiting HK1 expression and play a protective role in MF.

Abstract Background and Objective While earlier studies have focused on the relationship between stress and obesity, there was a gap in understanding the potential impact of positive psychological factors, such as resilience, on obesity. By investigating the role of psychological resilience with obesity, this study aimed to address this gap and tackle obesity through a positive psychological framework. Methods Participants consisted of 2445 community residents from Shenzhen, China, with a mean age of 41.09 ± 13.72 years, comprising 846 males and 1599 females. Psychological resilience was measured using the Brief Resilience Scale; gender, age, marital status, education level, smoking status, alcohol consumption, frequency of physical exercise, and perceived stress were considered potential confounding factors. The relationship between psychological resilience and body mass index (BMI) was examined through multiple linear regression and logistic regression analyses. Results The participants had an average psychological resilience score of 3.46 (standard deviation [SD] = 0.62) and an average BMI of 22.59 (SD = 3.35), with 104 individuals (4.3%) identified with obesity. In the fully adjusted multiple linear regression model, a higher psychological resilience score was associated with a higher BMI (β = 0.507, 95% CI:0.283, 0.731). In the logistic regression model, higher psychological resilience scores were linked to increased obesity risk, with a more significant association observed among males (odds ratio [OR] = 2.169, 95% CI:1.155, 4.073), while psychological resilience acted as a protective factor against underweight among females (OR = 0.528, 95% CI:0.376, 0.816). Conclusion The study demonstrated a significant link between higher psychological resilience and elevated BMI, emphasizing the complex relationship between psychological fortitude and weight management. Interventions targeting socioeconomic status, education, lifestyle habits, and physiological well‐being might offer a promising strategy for enhancing psychological resilience and promoting healthier weight. Emphasizing self‐efficacy and coping skills at the individual level could contribute to balanced weight and comprehensive health outcomes, addressing the global challenge of obesity.

Abstract Daphnia can avoid predation by sensing fish kairomones and producing inducible defenses by altering the phenotype. In this study, the results showed that the morphological and life‐history strategies of two Daphnia species (Daphnia pulex and Daphnia sinensis) exposed to Aristichthys nobilis kairomones. In the presence of fish kairomones, the two Daphnia species exhibited significantly smaller body length at maturity, smaller body length of offspring at the 10th instar, and longer relative tail spine of offspring. Nevertheless, other morphological and life‐history traits of the two Daphnia species differed. D. pulex showed a significantly longer relative tail spine length and earlier age at maturity after exposure to fish kairomones. The total offspring number of D. sinensis exposed to fish kairomones was significantly higher than that of the control group, whereas that of D. pulex was significantly lower. These results suggest that the two Daphnia species have different inducible defense strategies (e.g., morphological and life‐history traits) during prolonged exposure to A. nobilis kairomones, and their offspring also develop morphological defenses to avoid predation. It will provide reference for further exploring the adaptive evolution of Daphnia morphology and life‐history traits in the presence of planktivorous fish.

Abstract CD47‐SIRPα axis is an immunotherapeutic target in tumor therapy. However, current monoclonal antibody targeting CD47‐SIRPα axis is associated with on‐target off‐tumor and antigen sink effects, which significantly limit its potential clinical application. Herein, a biomimetic nano‐degrader is developed to inhibit CD47‐SIRPα axis in a site‐specific manner through SIRPα degradation, and its efficacy in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is evaluated. The nano‐degrader is constructed by hybridizing liposome with red blood cell (RBC) membrane (RLP), which mimics the CD47 density of senescent RBCs and possesses a natural high‐affinity binding capability to SIRPα on macrophages without signaling capacity. RLP would bind with SIRPα and induce its lysosomal degradation through receptor‐mediated endocytosis. To enhance its tissue specificity, Ly6G antibody conjugation (aRLP) is applied, enabling its attachment to neutrophils and accumulation within inflammatory sites. In the myocardial infarction model, aRLP accumulated in the infarcted myocardium blocks CD47‐SIRPα axis and subsequently promoted the efferocytosis of apoptotic cardiomyocytes by macrophage, improved heart repair. This nano‐degrader efficiently degraded SIRPα in lysosomes, providing a new strategy for immunotherapy with great clinical transformation potential.

With their unique point‐contact ability with the ground and exceptional adaptability to complex terrains, quadruped robots have become a focal point in the fields of automation and robotic engineering. Significant research progress has been made in aspects such as structural design, motion planning, and balance control of these robots. However, a primary challenge in current research lies in further enhancing the dynamic performance, environmental adaptability, and payload capacity. In this article, research achievements in key technical areas of quadruped robots, encompassing structural design, gait planning, traditional control strategies, intelligent control strategies, and autonomous movement, are comprehensively discussed. The focus of the article is on analyzing trends in intelligence and technological innovation within the aforementioned areas, aiming to provide robust theoretical support and forward‐looking technical guidance for quadruped robots research. Additionally, it offers valuable references for scholars engaged in this field.

Abstract Background The emergence of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) and its subsequent Omicron variant has raised concerns for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients due to the potential risk of disruptions to healthcare services and unknown comorbidities between COPD and Omicron. Method In this study, we conducted a follow‐up investigation of 315 COPD patients during the Omicron outbreak at Shanxi Bethune Hospital to understand the impact of the pandemic on this vulnerable population. Among all patients, 228 were infected with Omicron, of which 82 needed hospitalizations. Result We found that COPD patients with high blood eosinophil (EOS) counts exhibited lower susceptibility to Omicron infection and were more likely to have milder symptoms that did not require hospitalization. Conversely, patients with low EOS counts showed higher rates of infection and hospitalization. Moreover, EOS count was positively correlated with T lymphocyte counts in hospitalized patients after Omicron infection, suggesting potential associations between EOS and specific immune responses in COPD patients during viral infections. Correlation analysis revealed a positive correlation between EOS count and lymphocyte and T‐cells, and a negative correlation between EOS count and age, neutrophil, and C‐reactive protein. Conclusion Overall, our study contributes to the knowledge of COPD management during the COVID‐19 Omicron outbreak and emphasizes the importance of considering individual immune profiles to improve care for COPD patients in the face of the ongoing global health crisis.

Abstract The appearance of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG) provides a promising energy technology for harvesting abundant water wave energy. Here, the design and fabrication of a swinging origami‐structured TENG (SO‐TENG) tailored specifically for water wave energy harvesting are presented. The design incorporates an oscillating structure weighted at the bottom, inducing reciprocating motion propelled by the inertia of passing water waves. This reciprocating motion efficiently converts mechanical into electrical energy through the origami structure. By employing origami as the monomer structure, the surface contact area between friction layers is enhanced, thereby optimizing output performance. the swinging structure, combined with the placement of heavy objects, enhances the folding and contact of the origami, allowing it to operate effectively in low‐frequency water wave environments. This configuration exhibits robust power generation capabilities, making it suitable for powering small electronic devices in water wave environments. Furthermore, when applied to metal corrosion protection, the SO‐TENG demonstrates notable efficacy. Compared to exposed Q235 carbon steel, Q235 carbon steel protected by SO‐TENG exhibits a significant reduction in open‐circuit potential drop, approximately 155 mV, indicative of superior anti‐corrosion properties. It lays a solid foundation for water wave energy collection and self‐powered metal corrosion protection in marine environments.

Abstract Cell mechanotransduction signals are important targets for physical therapy. However, current physiotherapy heavily relies on ultrasound, which is generated by high‐power equipment or amplified by auxiliary drugs, potentially causing undesired side effects. To address current limitations, a robotic actuation‐mediated therapy is developed that utilizes gentle mechanical loads to activate mechanosensitive ion channels. The resulting calcium influx precisely regulated the expression of recombinant tumor suppressor protein and death‐associated protein kinase, leading to programmed apoptosis of cancer cell line through caspase‐dependent pathway. In stark contrast to traditional gene therapy, the complete elimination of early‐ and middle‐stage tumors (volume ≤ 100 mm3) and significant growth inhibition of late‐stage tumor (500 mm3) are realized in tumor‐bearing mice by transfecting mechanogenetic circuits and treating daily with quantitative robotic actuation in a form of 5 min treatment over the course of 14 days. Thus, this massage‐derived therapy represents a quantitative strategy for cancer treatment.

Background We recently demonstrated that acute administration of ibrutinib, a Bruton's tyrosine kinase inhibitor used in chemotherapy for blood malignancies, increases ventricular arrhythmia (VA) vulnerability. A pathway of ibrutinib‐induced vulnerability to VA that can be modulated for cardioprotection remains unclear. Methods and Results The effects of ibrutinib on cardiac electrical activity and Ca2+ dynamics were investigated in Langendorff‐perfused hearts using optical mapping. We also conducted Western blotting analysis to evaluate the impact of ibrutinib on various regulatory and Ca2+‐handling proteins in rat cardiac tissues. Abstract Contact resistance has become one of the main bottlenecks that hinder further improvement of mobility and integration density of organic field‐effect transistors (OFETs). Much progress has been made in reducing contact resistance by modifying the electrode/semiconductor interface and decreasing the crystal thickness, however, the development of new organic semiconductor materials with low contact resistance still faces many challenges. Here, 2,6‐bis‐phenylethynyl‐anthracene (BPEA) is found, which is a material that combines high mobility with low contact resistance. Single‐crystal BEPA OFETs with a thickness of ≈20 nm demonstrated high mobility of 4.52 cm2 V−1 s−1, contact resistance as low as 335 Ω cm, and band‐like charge transport behavior. The calculated compatibility of the EHOMO of BPEA with the work function of the Au electrode, and the decreased |EHOMO‐ΦAu| with the increase of external electric field intensity from source to gate both contributed to the efficient charge injection and small contact resistance. More intriguingly, p‐type BPEA as a buffer layer can effectively reduce the contact resistance, improve the mobility, and meanwhile inhibit the double‐slope electrical behavior of p‐channel 2,6‐diphenyl anthracene (DPA) single‐crystal OFETs.

Abstract Inferior air stability is a primary barrier for large‐scale applications of garnet electrolytes in energy storage systems. Herein, a deeply hydrated hydrogarnet electrolyte generated by a simple ion‐exchange‐induced phase transition from conventional garnet, realizing a record‐long air stability of more than two years when exposed to ambient air is proposed. Benefited from the elimination of air‐sensitive lithium ions at 96 h/48e sites and unobstructed lithium conduction path along tetragonal sites (12a) and vacancies (12b), the hydrogarnet electrolyte exhibits intrinsic air stability and comparable ion conductivity to that of traditional garnet. Moreover, the unique properties of hydrogarnet pave the way for a brand‐new aqueous route to prepare lithium metal stable composite electrolyte on a large‐scale, with high ionic conductivity (8.04 × 10−4 S cm−1), wide electrochemical windows (4.95 V), and a high lithium transference number (0.43). When applied in solid‐state lithium batteries (SSLBs), the batteries present impressive capacity and cycle life (164 mAh g−1 with capacity retention of 89.6% after 180 cycles at 1.0C under 50 °C). This work not only designs a new sort of hydrogarnet electrolyte, which is stable to both air and lithium metal but also provides an eco‐friendly and large‐scale fabrication route for SSLBs.

Abstract Objective Our study aimed to investigate the correlation between intraoperative hypothermia and postoperative delirium (POD) in patients undergoing general anesthesia for gastrointestinal surgery. Methods The study comprised 750 participants from the Perioperative Neurocognitive Disorder Risk Factor and Prognosis (PNDRFAP) study database, which ultimately screened 510 individuals in the final analysis. Preoperative cognitive function was evaluated using the Mini‐Mental State Examination (MMSE). The occurrence of POD was determined using the Confusion Assessment Method, and the severity of POD was evaluated using the Memorial Delirium Assessment Scale. Logistic regression was employed to scrutinize the association between intraoperative hypothermia and the incidence of POD, and the sensitivity analysis was conducted by introducing adjusted confounding variables. Decision curves and a nomogram model were utilized to assess the predictive efficacy of intraoperative hypothermia for POD. Mediation analysis involving 10,000 bootstrapped iterations was employed to appraise the suggested mediating effect of numeric rating scale (NRS) scores at 24 and 48 h post‐surgeries. The receiver‐operating characteristic (ROC) was utilized to evaluate the effectiveness of intraoperative hypothermia in predicting POD. Results In the PNDRFAP study, the occurrence of POD was notably higher in the intraoperative hypothermia group (62.2%) compared to the intraoperative normal body temperature group (9.8%), with an overall POD incidence of 17.6%. Abstract Intracellular proteome aggregation is a ubiquitous disease hallmark with its composition associated with pathogenicity. Herein, this work reports on a cell‐permeable photosensitizer (P8, Rose Bengal derivative) for selective photo induced proximity labeling and crosslinking of cellular aggregated proteome. Rose Bengal is identified out of common photosensitizer scaffolds for its unique intrinsic binding affinity to various protein aggregates driven by the hydrophobic effect. Further acetylation permeabilizes Rose Bengal to selectively image, label, and crosslink aggregated proteome in live stressed cells. A combination of photo‐chemical, tandem mass spectrometry, and protein biochemistry characterizations reveals the complexity in photosensitizing pathways (both Type I & II), modification sites and labeling mechanisms. The diverse labeling sites and reaction types result in highly effective enrichment and identification of aggregated proteome. Finally, aggregated proteomics and interaction analyses thereby reveal extensive entangling of proteostasis network components mediated by HSP70 chaperone (HSPA1B) and active participation of autophagy pathway in combating proteasome inhibition. Overall, this work exemplifies the first photo induced proximity labeling and crosslinking method (namely AggID) to profile intracellular aggregated proteome and analyze its interactions.

Abstract Targeting cancer‐specific metabolic processes is a promising therapeutic strategy. Here, this work uses a compound library that directly inhibits metabolic enzymes to screen the potential metabolic targets in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). SHIN1, the specific inhibitor of serine hydroxymethyltransferase 1/2 (SHMT1/2), has a highly specific inhibitory effect on LUAD cells, and this effect depends mainly on the overexpression of SHMT2. This work clarifies that mitogen‐activated protein kinase 1 (MAPK1)‐mediated phosphorylation at Ser90 is the key mechanism underlying SHMT2 upregulation in LUAD and that this phosphorylation stabilizes SHMT2 by reducing STIP1 homology and U‐box containing protein 1 (STUB1)‐mediated ubiquitination and degradation. SHMT2‐Ser90 dephosphorylation decreases S‐adenosylmethionine levels in LUAD cells, resulting in reduced N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) levels in global RNAs without affecting total protein or DNA methylation. Methylated RNA immunoprecipitation sequencing (MeRIP‐Seq) and RNA sequencing (RNA‐Seq) analyses further demonstrate that SHMT2‐Ser90 dephosphorylation accelerates the RNA degradation of oncogenic genes by reducing m6A modification, leading to the inhibition of tumorigenesis. Overall, this study elucidates a new regulatory mechanism of SHMT2 during oncogenesis and provides a theoretical basis for targeting SHMT2 as a therapeutic target in LUAD.

Abstract Urgent research into innovative severe acute respiratory coronavirus‐2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) vaccines that may successfully prevent various emerging emerged variants, particularly the Omicron variant and its subvariants, is necessary. Here, we designed a chimeric adenovirus‐vectored vaccine named Ad5‐Beta/Delta. This vaccine was created by incorporating the receptor‐binding domain from the Delta variant, which has the L452R and T478K mutations, into the complete spike protein of the Beta variant. Both intramuscular (IM) and intranasal (IN) vaccination with Ad5‐Beta/Deta vaccine induced robust broad‐spectrum neutralization against Omicron BA.5‐included variants. IN immunization with Ad5‐Beta/Delta vaccine exhibited superior mucosal immunity, manifested by higher secretory IgA antibodies and more tissue‐resident memory T cells (TRM) in respiratory tract. The combination of IM and IN delivery of the Ad5‐Beta/Delta vaccine was capable of synergically eliciting stronger systemic and mucosal immune responses. Furthermore, the Ad5‐Beta/Delta vaccination demonstrated more effective boosting implications after two dosages of mRNA or subunit recombinant protein vaccine, indicating its capacity for utilization as a booster shot in the heterologous vaccination. These outcomes quantified Ad5‐Beta/Delta vaccine as a favorable vaccine can provide protective immunity versus SARS‐CoV‐2 pre‐Omicron variants of concern and BA.5‐included Omicron subvariants.

Background Vertebrobasilar artery occlusion (VBAO) is a severe type of stroke. Multiple prediction models for outcome and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) of patients with acute ischemic stroke treated with endovascular treatment have been developed to improve patient management, but few are based on VBAO. This study aimed to provide an overview of published models to predict functional outcome and sICH as well as to validate their ability in patients with acute VBAO treated with endovascular treatment. Methods We performed a systematic search to identify models either developed or validated to predict functional outcomes or sICH after endovascular treatment. Models were externally validated in the Posterior Circulation Ischemic Stroke Registry (PERSIST) study (n = 2422). Outcome measures included the modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score at 90 days and sICH. Model performance was evaluated with discrimination (c‐statistic) and calibration (slope and intercept). Results A total of 65 models were included in overview. The most frequently used predictors were baseline National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score (n = 57), age (n = 45), and glucose (n = 32). In the external validation cohort, 777 of 2353 patients (33.0%) achieved mRS score 0–2 at 90 days, 1061 of 2353 patients (45.1%) patients achieved mRS score 0–3 at 90 days, and sICH occurred in 170 of 2422 patients (7.0%). Finally, 27 models were included in external validation. For functional outcome models focusing on mRS score 0–2/3–6, discrimination ranged from 0.63 to 0.66 and best calibrated model was SC (Stroke Checkerboard) (intercept, −0.13 [95% CI, −0.27 to 0.01]; slope, 0.92 [95% CI, 0.67–1.17]). For functional outcome models focusing on mRS score 0–3/4–6, discrimination ranged from 0.64 to 0.74 and best calibrated model was modified Houston Intra‐Arterial Therapy 2 (mHIAT2) (intercept, −0.12 [95% CI, −0.31 to 0.07]; slope, 0.85 [95% CI, 0.65–1.04]). For sICH models, discrimination ranged from 0.53 to 0.83 and best calibrated model was Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction score, Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score, and glucose (TAG) (intercept, 0.13 [95% CI, −0.25 to 0.51]; slope, 0.93 [95% CI, 0.63–1.23]). Conclusions The currently published models are inadequate for predicting functional outcomes and sICH in patients with acute VBAO undergoing endovascular treatment and, therefore, there is a need for more effective models specifically developed for VBAO conditions.

Abstract The climate fluctuations during the Late Pleistocene significantly influenced the phylogeographic structure and historical dynamics of marine fishes in the marginal seas of the western Pacific Ocean. The puffer fish, Lagocephalus spadiceus, holds substantial nutritional and economic value in the South China Sea. To investigate the demographic history and population structure of the L. spadiceus, the mitochondrial DNA COI and Cyt b gene datasets from 300 individuals across eight populations in the South China Sea were sequenced. Our findings revealed high haplotype diversity (0.874 ± 0.013) and low nucleotide diversity (0.00075 ± 0.00058). The phylogenetic tree and haplotype networks revealed no significant genetic differentiation along the northern coast of South China Sea. Neutrality tests, mismatch distribution analyses, and Bayesian skyline plots suggested that L. spadiceus underwent population expansion during the Late Pleistocene. Both ocean currents and climate change significantly influenced the geographical distribution and genetic population structure of L. spadiceus.

Abstract Background The involvement of people with lived experience (LEX) workers in the development, design, and delivery of integrated health services seeks to improve service user engagement and health outcomes and reduce healthcare gaps. Yet, LEX workers report feeling undervalued and having limited influence on service delivery. There is a need for systematic improvements in how LEX workforces are engaged and supported to ensure the LEX workforce can fully contribute to integrated systems of care. Objective This study aimed to operationalize the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) using a rigorous scoping review methodology and co‐creation process, so it could be used by health services seeking to build and strengthen their LEX workforce. Search Strategy A systematic literature search of four databases was undertaken to identify peer‐reviewed studies published between 2016 and 2022 providing evidence of the inclusion of LEX workers in direct health service provision. Data Extraction and Synthesis A descriptive‐analytical method was used to map current evidence of LEX workers onto the CFIR. Then, co‐creation sessions with LEX workers (n = 4) and their counterparts—nonpeer workers (n = 2)—further clarified the structural policies and strategies that allow people with LEX to actively participate in the provision and enhancement of integrated health service delivery. Main Results Essential components underpinning the successful integration of LEX roles included: the capacity to engage in a co‐creation process with individuals with LEX before the implementation of the role or intervention; and enhanced representation of LEX across organizational structures. Discussion and Conclusion The adapted CFIR for LEX workers (CFIR‐LEX) that was developed as a result of this work clarifies contextual components that support the successful integration of LEX roles into the development, design, and delivery of integrated health services. Further work must be done to operationalize the framework in a local context and to better understand the ongoing application of the framework in a health setting. Patient or Public Contribution People with LEX were involved in the operationalization of the CFIR, including contributing their expertise to the domain adaptations that were relevant to the LEX workforce.

Abstract Background Spinal cord injury (SCI)‐induced neuroinflammation and oxidative stress (OS) are crucial events causing neurological dysfunction. Aconitate decarboxylase 1 (ACOD1) and its metabolite itaconate (Ita) inhibit inflammation and OS by promoting alkylation of Keap1 to induce Nrf2 expression; however, it is unclear whether there is another pathway regulating their effects in inflammation‐activated microglia after SCI. Methods Adult male C57BL/6 ACOD1−/− mice and their wild‐type (WT) littermates were subjected to a moderate thoracic spinal cord contusion. The degree of neuroinflammation and OS in the injured spinal cord were assessed using qPCR, western blot, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, and trans‐well assay. We then employed immunoprecipitation‐western blot, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP)‐PCR, dual‐luciferase assay, and immunofluorescence‐confocal imaging to examine the molecular mechanisms of ACOD1. Finally, the locomotor function was evaluated with the Basso Mouse Scale and footprint assay. Results Both in vitro and in vivo, microglia with transcriptional blockage of ACOD1 exhibited more severe levels of neuroinflammation and OS, in which the expression of p62/Keap1/Nrf2 was down‐regulated. Furthermore, silencing ACOD1 exacerbated neurological dysfunction in SCI mice. Administration of exogenous Ita or 4‐octyl itaconate reduced p62 phosphorylation. Besides, ACOD1 was capable of interacting with phosphorylated p62 to enhance Nrf2 activation, which in turn further promoted transcription of ACOD1. Conclusions Here, we identified an unreported ACOD1‐p62‐Nrf2‐ACOD1 feedback loop exerting anti‐inflammatory and anti‐OS in inflammatory microglia, and demonstrated the neuroprotective role of ACOD1 after SCI, which was different from that of endogenous and exogenous Ita. The present study extends the functions of ACOD1 and uncovers marked property differences between endogenous and exogenous Ita. Key points ACOD1 attenuated neuroinflammation and oxidative stress after spinal cord injury. ACOD1, not itaconate, interacted with p‐p62 to facilitate Nrf2 expression and nuclear translocation. Nrf2 was capable of promoting ACOD1 transcription in microglia.

Abstract Aims Management of blood glucose fluctuation is essential for diabetes. Exercise is a key therapeutic strategy for diabetes patients, although little is known about determinants of glycemic response to exercise training. We aimed to investigate the effect of combined aerobic and resistance exercise training on blood glucose fluctuation in type 2 diabetes patients and explore the predictors of exercise‐induced glycemic response. Materials and Methods Fifty sedentary diabetes patients were randomly assigned to control or exercise group. Participants in the control group maintained sedentary lifestyle for 2 weeks, and those in the exercise group specifically performed combined exercise training for 1 week. All participants received dietary guidance based on a recommended diet chart. Glycemic fluctuation was measured by flash continuous glucose monitoring. Baseline fat and muscle distribution were accurately quantified through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Results Combined exercise training decreased SD of sensor glucose (SDSG, exercise‐pre vs exercise‐post, mean 1.35 vs 1.10 mmol/L, p = .006) and coefficient of variation (CV, mean 20.25 vs 17.20%, p = .027). No significant change was observed in the control group. Stepwise multiple linear regression showed that baseline MRI‐quantified fat and muscle distribution, including visceral fat area (β = −0.761, p = .001) and mid‐thigh muscle area (β = 0.450, p = .027), were significantly independent predictors of SDSG change in the exercise group, as well as CV change. Conclusions Combined exercise training improved blood glucose fluctuation in diabetes patients. Baseline fat and muscle distribution were significant factors that influence glycemic response to exercise, providing new insights into personalized exercise intervention for diabetes.

Abstract The design and development of ultra‐accurate probe is of great significance to chemical sensing in complex practical scenarios. Here, a self‐accelerating naphthalimide‐based probe with fast response and high sensitivity toward hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is designed. By coupling with the specially selected upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs), an ultra‐accurate colorimetric‐fluorescent‐upconversion luminescence (UCL) tri‐mode platform is constructed. Owing to the promoted reaction process, this platform demonstrates rapid response (< 1 s), an ultra‐low detection limit (4.34 nM), and superb anti‐interferent ability even in presence of > 21 types of oxidants, explosives, metallic salts, daily compounds, colorful or fluorescent substances. In addition, the effectiveness of this design is further verified by a sponge‐based sensing chip loaded with the UCNPs/probe in recognizing trace H2O2 vapor from interferents with the three characteristic colors existing simultaneously. The proposed design of probe and tri‐mode visualization detection platform is expected to open up a brand‐new methodology for ultra‐accurate sensing.

Abstract Olfr78, which is a novel receptor for short‐chain fatty acid (SCFA) acetate and propionate, plays essential roles in some cellular processes. The present study aimed to investigate the role of olfr78 in regulating energy metabolism and delineate the underlying mechanisms using olfr78−/− mice. Deletion of olfr78 did not influence the adiposity of mice fed either normal chow or a high‐fat diet (HFD). However, olfr78−/− mice exhibited glucometabolic dysfunction, as evidenced by increased fasting blood glucose levels, decreased serum insulin levels, and impaired oral glucose tolerance under HFD feeding. When compared to wild‐type (WT) mice, olfr78 deficiency enhanced HFD‐induced gluconeogenesis and increased the mRNA expression of key gluconeogenic genes in the liver and kidney. Quantitative real‐time PCR results revealed that olfr78 expression was higher in the colon compared with other tissues in WT mice. Analysis of the gut microbiota in the feces of olfr78−/− mice using 16S rRNA gene sequencing revealed altered relative abundances of some representative SCFAs producers along with decreased levels of SCFAs, including propionic, isobutyric, 2‐methylbutyric, valeric, isovaleric, and 4‐methylvaleric acids. Importantly, mice lacking olfr78 had low circulating levels of glucagon‐like peptide 1 (GLP‐1). In the STC‐1 enteroendocrine cell line, propionate and acetate induced the secretion of the gut hormone GLP‐1, and this effect was partially abolished by olfr78 siRNA‐mediated knockdown. Together, these results suggest a previously undescribed, specific regulatory role for gut olfr78 in glucose homeostasis and highlight olfr78 as a potential target for diabetes treatment.

Abstract Sketch face recognition has a wide range of applications in criminal investigation, but it remains a challenging task due to the small‐scale sample and the semantic deficiencies caused by cross‐modality differences. The authors propose a light semantic Transformer network to extract and model the semantic information of cross‐modality images. First, the authors employ a meta‐learning training strategy to obtain task‐related training samples to solve the small sample problem. Then to solve the contradiction between the high complexity of the Transformer and the small sample problem of sketch face recognition, the authors build the light semantic transformer network by proposing a hierarchical group linear transformation and introducing parameter sharing, which can extract highly discriminative semantic features on small–scale datasets. Finally, the authors propose a domain‐adaptive focal loss to reduce the cross‐modality differences between sketches and photos and improve the training effect of the light semantic Transformer network. Extensive experiments have shown that the features extracted by the proposed method have significant discriminative effects. The authors’ method improves the recognition rate by 7.6% on the UoM‐SGFSv2 dataset, and the recognition rate reaches 92.59% on the CUFSF dataset.

Abstract Accurately determining the precursors of coal and rock failures is crucial for preventing associated risks in coal mines. In this study, based on the values of the four parameters amplitude, duration, counts and energy of acoustic emission (AE) signals, the AE signals of coal and sandstone samples failure were clustered by the two‐step clustering method. And the precursory AE signals of sample failure under uniaxial compression were analyzed and identified. Results show that the peak of AE amplitude is before that of AE duration, counts, and energy. AE signals of both coal and sandstone samples can be classified into five types. Values of the parameters of Types I–IV AE signals of the sandstone sample are lower than that of the coal sample. The duration, counts, and energy of Type V AE signals of the sandstone sample are higher than that of the coal sample. Type V AE signals, which are middle amplitude (hundreds of mV), high duration (hundreds of thousands of μS), high counts (about 10,000), and high energy (tens of thousands of mV*mS), account for the lowest proportion of all AE signals, at approximately 0.1%. And they began to occur at 87% σc of the coal sample and at 97% σc of the sandstone sample, respectively. Type V AE signals can be used as precursors of coal and sandstone samples failure under uniaxial compression.

Eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (ECRSwNP) is a subtype of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) that is associated with the nasal cavity and sinus polyps, elevated levels of eosinophils, and dysregulated immune responses to environmental triggers. The underlying cause of ECRSwNP is not well understood, and few studies have focused on the unique features of this subtype of CRS. Our study integrated proteomic and transcriptomic data with multi‐omic bioinformatics analyses. We collected nasal polyps from three ECRSwNP patients and three control patients and identified 360 differentially expressed (DE) proteins, including 119 upregulated and 241 downregulated proteins. Functional analyses revealed several significant associations with ECRSwNP, including focal adhesion, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and extracellular matrix (ECM)–receptor interactions. Additionally, a protein–protein interaction (PPI) network revealed seven hub proteins that may play crucial roles in the development of ECRSwNP. We also compared the proteomic data with publicly available transcriptomic data and identified a total of 1077 DE genes. Pathways enriched by the DE genes involved angiogenesis, positive regulation of cell motility, and immune responses. Furthermore, we investigated immune cell infiltration and identified biomarkers associated with eosinophil and M2 macrophage infiltration using CIBERSORT and Weighted Gene Correlation Network Analysis (WGCNA). Our results provide a more complete picture of the immune‐related mechanisms underlying ECRSwNP, which could contribute to the development of more precise treatment strategies for this condition.

Abstract The authors propose a computationally efficient approach to estimate the directions of arrival of far‐field sources impinging on a sensor array. The proposed estimator is formed using a sparse reconstruction framework, employing a novel adaptive grid selection technique to reduce the dimensionality of the used dictionary matrix. The method further makes use of a SPICE‐inspired dictionary to adaptively select an appropriate regularisation parameter and to select the active grid set. An adaptive stepsize selection strategy is also introduced to reduce computation complexity further. The proposed method allows for accurate direction‐of‐arrival (DOA) estimates using even a single snapshot, also from weak sources. Numerical simulations indicate that the method offers preferable performance in comparison to existing state‐of‐the‐art DOA estimation algorithms.

Abstract Crowd counting is an important research topic in computer vision. Its goal is to estimate the people's number in an image. Researchers have dramatically improved counting accuracy in recent years by regressing density maps. However, because of the inherent domain shift, the model trained on an expensive manually labelled dataset (source domain) does not perform well on a dataset with scarce labels (target domain). For this issue, a novel dynamic scale aggregation network (DSANet) is proposed to reduce the gaps in style and cross‐domain head scale variations. Specifically, a practical style transfer layer is introduced to reduce the appearance discrepancy between the source and target domains. Then, the translated source and target domain samples are encoded by a generator consisting of the VGG16 network and the dynamic scale aggregation modules (DSA Modules) and produce corresponding density maps. The DSA module can adaptively adjust parameters according to the input features and effectively fuse multi‐scale information to overcome the cross‐domain head scale variations. Next, a discriminator judges the input density map from the source or target domain. Last, domain distributions are aligned through adversarial between the generator and the discriminator. The experiments show that our network outperforms the current state‐of‐the‐art methods and can improve the target domain's performance while maintaining the source domain's performance without significant degradation.

Abstract High‐performance convolutional neural networks (CNNs) stack many convolutional layers to obtain powerful feature extraction capability, which leads to huge storing and computational costs. The authors focus on lightweight models for hyperspectral image (HSI) classification, so a novel lightweight criss‐cross large kernel convolutional neural network (LiteCCLKNet) is proposed. Specifically, a lightweight module containing two 1D convolutions with self‐attention mechanisms in orthogonal directions is presented. By setting large kernels within the 1D convolutional layers, the proposed module can efficiently aggregate long‐range contextual features. In addition, the authors effectively obtain a global receptive field by stacking only two of the proposed modules. Compared with traditional lightweight CNNs, LiteCCLKNet reduces the number of parameters for easy deployment to resource‐limited platforms. Experimental results on three HSI datasets demonstrate that the proposed LiteCCLKNet outperforms the previous lightweight CNNs and has higher storage efficiency.

ABSTRACT Purpose To present a case series of Cushing's syndrome (CS) during pregnancy caused by adrenocortical adenomas, highlighting clinical features, hormonal assessments and outcomes. Methods We describe five pregnant women with CS, detailing clinical presentations and laboratory findings. Results Common clinical features included a full moon face, buffalo back and severe hypertension. Elevated blood cortisol levels with circadian rhythm disruption and suppressed adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) levels were observed. Imaging revealed unilateral adrenal tumours. Two cases underwent laparoscopic adrenalectomies during the second trimester, while three had postpartum surgery. All required hormone replacement therapy, with postoperative pathological confirmation of adrenocortical adenomas. Conclusion Diagnosis of CS during pregnancy is challenging due to overlapping features with normal pregnancy: elevated blood cortisol levels and abnormal diurnal rhythm of blood cortisol, suppressed aid diagnosis. Treatment should be individualised due to a lack of explicit optimum therapeutic approaches. Laparoscopic adrenalectomy may be an optimal choice, along with multidisciplinary management including hormone replacement therapy.

Abstract Genetic diversity reflects the survival potential, history, and population dynamics of an organism. It underlies the adaptive potential of populations and their response to environmental change. Reaumuria trigyna is an endemic species in the Eastern Alxa and West Ordos desert regions in China. The species has been considered a good candidate to explore the unique survival strategies of plants that inhabit this area. In this study, we performed population genomic analyses based on restriction‐site associated DNA sequencing to understand the genetic diversity, population genetic structure, and differentiation of the species. Analyses of 92,719 high‐quality single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) indicated that overall genetic diversity of R. trigyna was low (HO = 0.249 and HE = 0.208). No significant genetic differentiation was observed among the investigated populations. However, a subtle population genetic structure was detected. We suggest that this might be explained by adaptive diversification reinforced by the geographical isolation of populations. Overall, 3513 outlier SNPs were located in 243 gene‐coding sequences in the R. trigyna transcriptome. Potential sites under diversifying selection occurred in genes (e.g., AP2/EREBP, E3 ubiquitin‐protein ligase, FLS, and 4CL) related to phytohormone regulation and synthesis of secondary metabolites which have roles in adaptation of species. Our genetic analyses provide scientific criteria for evaluating the evolutionary capacity of R. trigyna and the discovery of unique adaptions. Our findings extend knowledge of refugia, environmental adaption, and evolution of germplasm resources that survive in the Ordos area.

Abstract In the research on strong alkali‐surfactant‐polymer flooding scaling prediction, the variation characteristics of ion concentration in the produced fluid are obviously consistent with those of scale component content. Consequently, studying the variation tendency of ion concentration in produced fluid is helpful for further revealing the scaling tendency. Given the periodicity and chaos characteristics of the ion concentration data of the produced fluid, an echo state network (ESN) is used to realize the relevant time series forecasting. Simultaneously, to cope with the failure of the ESN in selecting suitable reservoir parameters according to different characteristics of time series, a modified discrete particle swarm optimization algorithm based on objective space decomposition is used to optimize the reservoir parameters. The experimental results indicate that the improved ESN presents the lowest error and is the closest to the target value.
