SUMMARY: Saline‐alkali stress is an important abiotic stress factor affecting tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) plant growth. Although the involvement of the tomato SlWRKY gene family in responses to saline‐alkali stress has been well established, the mechanism underlying resistance to saline‐alkali stress remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the role of SlWRKY81 in conferring saline‐alkali stress resistance by using overexpression and knockout tomato seedlings obtained via genetic modification. We demonstrated that SlWRKY81 improves the ability of tomato to withstand saline‐alkali stress by enhancing antioxidant capacity, root activity, and proline content while reducing malondialdehyde levels. Saline‐alkali stress induces an increase in jasmonic acid (JA) content in tomato seedlings, and the SlWRKY81 promoter responds to JA signaling, leading to an increase in SlWRKY81 expression. Furthermore, the interaction between SlJAZ1 and SlWRKY81 represses the expression of SlWRKY81. SlWRKY81 binds to W‐box motifs in the promoter regions of SlSPDS2 and SlNHX4, thereby positively regulating their expression. This regulation results in increased spermidine (Spd) content and enhanced potassium (K+) absorption and sodium (Na+) efflux, which contribute to the resistance of tomato to saline‐alkali stress. However, JA and SlJAZ1 exhibit antagonistic effects. Elevated JA content reduces the inhibitory effect of SlJAZ1 on SlWRKY81, leading to the release of additional SlWRKY81 protein and further augmenting the resistance of tomato to saline‐alkali stress. In summary, the modulation of Spd synthesis and Na+/K+ homeostasis mediated by the interaction between SlWRKY81 and SlJAZ1 represents a novel pathway underlying tomato response to saline‐alkali stress. Texture deterioration of meat products upon high‐temperature sterilization is a pressing issue in the meat industry. This study evaluated the effect of different thermal sterilization temperatures on the textural and juiciness of ready‐to‐eat (RTE) chicken breast. In this study, by dynamically monitoring the texture and juiciness of chicken meat products during the process of thermal sterilization, it has been observed that excessively high sterilization temperatures (above 100°C) significantly diminish the shear force, springiness and water‐holding capacity of the products. Furthermore, from the perspective of myofibrillar protein degradation, molecular mechanisms have been elucidated, unveiling that the thermal sterilization treatment at 121°C/10 min triggers the degradation of myosin heavy chains and F‐actin, disrupting the lattice arrangement of myofilaments, compromising the integrity of sarcomeres, and resulting in an increase of approximately 40.66% in the myofibrillar fragmentation index, thus diminishing the quality characteristics of the products. This study unravels the underlying mechanisms governing the dynamic changes in quality of chicken meat products during the process of thermal sterilization, thereby providing theoretical guidance for the development of high‐quality chicken products. Background: Cervical cancer (CC), closely linked to persistent human papillomavirus infection, represents a major health problem for women worldwide. The objective of this study is to elucidate KIF23's role in the development of CC and its regulatory mechanism. Methods: The bioinformatics methods were utilized to extract pyroptosis‐associated differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and pivot genes from the GSE9750 and GSE63678 datasets, followed by immune infiltration analysis and quantification of these genes' expression. The effects of kinesin family member 23 (KIF23) were verified through functional experiments in vitro and a mouse xenograft model. The NLPR3 activator, nigericin, was applied for further analyzing the potential regulatory mechanism of KIF23 in CC. Results: A total of 8 pyroptosis‐related DEGs were screened out, among which 4 candidate core genes were identified as candidate hub genes and confirmed upregulation in CC tissues and cells. These genes respectively showed a positive correlation with the infiltration of distinct immune cells or tumor purity. Downregulation of KIF23 could suppress the proliferation, migration, and invasion abilities in CC cells and tumorigenesis through enhancing pyroptosis. Conversely, KIF23 overexpression accelerated the malignant phenotypes of CC cells and inhibited pyroptosis activation, which was blocked by nigericin treatment. High entropy alloys (HEAs) are promising electromagnetic wave absorption (EMA) materials due to its designable crystal structure, variable electromagnetic properties, and excellent corrosion resistance. However, the impedance mismatch owing to the high electric and dielectric conductivity severely hinders the application of HEAs in the field of EMA. Herein, the lattice distortion of FeCoNiCu HEA is manipulated accurately by doping and annealing strategies to tailor the EMA properties. Significant lattice distortion is observed in the FeCoNiCuC0.37, which leads to a decrease in the electrical conductivity and the creation of abundant dipoles. Owing to the optimal impedance matching and boosted polarization loss, the FeCoNiCuC0.37 delivers a minimal reflection loss of −65.4 dB accompanied by an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 6.81 GHz. After annealing at 200 °C, the EAB of the FeCoNiCuC0.37 is further increased to 7.99 GHz at 1.95 mm, which is better than that of most HEA‐based EMA absorbers reported so far. Moreover, it demonstrates excellent corrosion resistance owing to the more tortuous diffusion path of corrosive medium origin from lattice distortion. In nowadays biomedical research, there has been a growing demand for making accurate prediction at subject levels. In many of these situations, data are collected as longitudinal curves and display distinct individual characteristics. Thus, prediction mechanisms accommodated with functional mixed effects models (FMEM) are useful. In this paper, we developed a classified functional mixed model prediction (CFMMP) method, which adapts classified mixed model prediction (CMMP) to the framework of FMEM. Performance of CFMMP against functional regression prediction based on simulation studies and the consistency property of CFMMP estimators are explored. The construction of 3D porous structures and metamaterials (MMs) is the most promising approaches to achieve broadband electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption. However, it is still a huge challenge to achieve multispectral ultra‐broadband EMW absorption properties compatible with low‐frequency band (L‐ and S‐band) due to its ultralong wavelength and strong bypass capability. Herein, magnetic–dielectric synergistic gradient MMs (MDSGM) consisting of oriented flaky carbonyl iron (FCI) film and periodical RGO/CNT/CNF aerogel (GTFA) array are demonstrated. Benefiting from the synergistic effect of strong magnetic–dielectric loss, structural loss, and excellent impedance matching, MDSGM harvests an exciting multispectral ultra‐broadband EMW absorption performance with a remarkable effective absorption bandwidth covering the whole measured frequency of 1–40, 50–110 GHz, and 0.1–2.0 THz for the first time. The minimum RL (RLmin) reaches −40.24 dB and average RL is up to −19.3 dB (98.8% EMW being absorbed) in microwave band. Moreover, this multispectral ultra‐broadband EMW absorption property is less affected by the incident angle. This work pioneered realization of multispectral ultra‐broadband EMW absorption compatible with low‐frequency, which provides a great thrust for the development of stealth technology in the upcoming smart era. Purpose: This study aimed to explore the molecular mechanism underlying the therapeutic effect of salvianolic acid C (SAC) on osteoporosis. Methods: Osteoporotic (OVX) rats were used as the model, and the impacts of SAC treatment on their serum and urine biochemical indicators were assessed. The biomechanical parameters of these rats were also evaluated. The effects of SAC treatment on the bone of OVX rats was quantified using hematoxylin & eosin staining and alizarin red staining, which reflect calcium deposition. The potential signaling pathway involved in SAC treatment was identified and confirmed through Western blotting, AMP‐activated protein kinase (AMPK) inhibitors, and sirtuin‐1 (small interfering RNA‐SIRT1). Results: The results showed that SAC could ameliorate the serum and urine biochemical metabolism, and the pathological alterations of bone tissue in OVX rats. SAC promoted the osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal cells in OVX rats, one of the key mechanisms for modulation of Runx2, Osx, and OCN, involved in the AMPK/SIRT1 signaling pathway. Conclusion: The findings from this study suggest that SAC promotes the osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in osteoporotic rats by activating the AMPK/SIRT1 pathway. Chemical warfare agents (CWAs) are significant threats to human peace and global safety. Most of the personal protective equipment in service used to barrier CWAs is devoid of decontamination activity. Rechargeable N‐halamine‐based detoxifying nanofibers/graphene chemical protective aerogels (HNAs) with ternary pores bearing π‐conjugation galleries that can effectively capture mustard gas through halogen bonds and convert them into the nontoxic products are proposed. Microporous nanofibers together with graphene construct a robust lamellar conjugated system dominated by π‐π interactions, providing interconnected channels for rapid dispersion and diffusion of contaminated fluid. The resulting HNAs exhibit integrated performances of low density, hierarchical porosity, a speedy recovery after a significant deformation, rechargeable vesicants decontamination (half‐life of 1.52 min), and low filtration resistance. The successful fabrication of the intriguing materials provides new insights into the generation of reliable, rechargeable, structurally adaptable, and long‐term usable real‐time detoxifying adsorbents for chemical personal protective equipment application. In clinical trials, placebo response is considered a beneficial effect arising from multiple factors, including the patient's expectations for the treatment. Its presence makes the classical parallel study design suboptimal and can bias the inference. The sequential parallel comparison design (SPCD), a two‐stage design where the first stage is a classical parallel study design, followed by another parallel design among placebo subjects from the first stage, was proposed to address the shortcomings of the classical design. In SPCD, in lieu of treatment effect, a weighted average of the mean treatment difference in Stage I among all randomized subjects and the mean treatment difference in Stage II among placebo non‐responders was proposed as the efficacy measure. However, by linking two possibly different populations, this weighted average lacks interpretability, and the choice of weight remains controversial. In this work, under the principal stratification framework, we propose a causal estimand for the treatment effect under each of three clinically important principal strata: Always Responders, Never Responders, and Drug‐only Responders. To make the stratum treatment effect identifiable, we introduce a set of assumptions and two sensitivity parameters. By further considering the strata as latent characteristics, the sensitivity parameters can be estimated. An extensive simulation study is conducted to evaluate the operating characteristics of the proposed method. Finally, we apply our method on the ADAPT‐A study data to assess the benefit of low‐dose aripiprazole adjunctive to antidepressant therapy treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Pretreatment and on‐treatment plasma cytokine levels in predicting clinical benefit in patients with advanced non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treated with anti‐programmed death‐1 (PD‐1)‐based chemotherapy is still a matter of debate. Methods: We measured 12 kind of plasma cytokines in patients with stage III/IV NSCLC before and during treatment with anti‐PD‐1 based chemotherapy. Associations with best overall response, and survival including progression‐free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were assessed using Chi‐square test and Kaplan–Meier plots with log‐rank test, respectively. Logistic regression and Cox regression were used to determine independent risk factors. Results: Of a total of 60 patients, high‐level of pretreatment interleukin‐2 was associated with longer PFS (log rank p = 0.049), while high‐level of pretreatment interleukin‐8 was associated with shorter OS (log rank p = 0.006). Increased on‐treatment interleukin‐1β (IL‐1β) was associated with both better response (odds ratio [OR] 6.233, 95% confidential interval [CI]: 1.451–26.344, p = 0.013) and longer PFS (hazard ratio [HR] 0.305, 95% CI: 0.127–0.730, p = 0.008). On the contrary, increased on‐treatment interleukin‐6 (IL‐6) was associated with a worse response (OR 0.015, 95% CI: 0.001–0.400, p = 0.012), worse PFS (HR 2.639, 95% CI: 1.163–5.991, p = 0.020) and worse OS (HR 2.742, 95% CI: 1.063–7.074, p = 0.037). Increased interferon‐γ (IFN‐γ) was found to be associated with better PFS (HR 0.336, 95% CI: 0.153–0.745, p = 0.007). Conclusions: In patients with advanced NSCLC who received chemoimmunotherapy, on‐treatment increased IL‐1β and IFN‐γ may serve as positive indicator of efficacy, while on‐treatment increased IL‐6 might play a predictive role of worse clinical outcome. Conductive polymer composites (CPCs) with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have exhibited desirable sensing capacities to external stimuli. In this study, it is found that poor dispersion of single‐wall CNTs gives rise to low mechanical strength and unsteady responsive signal outputs of CPCs as strain sensing materials. With attempt to solve this problem, we prepare the conductive silicone rubber composites with hybrid CNT masterbatch and carbon black (CB) fillers (CNT/CB composites) by drying mixing method. Hybrid CBs separate and loosen the entanglement of CNTs in CNT/CB composites which forms more conductive paths and better dispersion of CNTs than those only with single CNTs (CNT‐composites). CNT/CB composite achieves a good conductivity, sufficient mechanical strength and high elasticity. In contrast with CNT‐composite, its reproducibility of resistance responsivity was remarkably improved at strain cycles, which display stable sensing properties for mechanically strain sensor applications. Importantly, CNT/CB composites show outdoor usage robustness, including excellent salt‐spray resistance, hot‐humidity stability and a wide operation temperature range of −40 to +50°C. Many individuals may face traumatic events throughout their lives. For intimate relationship partners, early traumatic experiences can have a specific effect on their interpersonal communication. This study examined the moderating effect of traumatic experiences at early ages between perceived conflict and communication behavior among individuals in an intimate relationship. A total of 186 college students in intimate relationships reported their perceived conflict and communication behaviors with their partners three times a day for 14 days using ambulatory assessment. Findings from the multilevel model showed that a higher level of perceived conflict significantly positively associated with negative communication and negatively correlated with positive communication at the within‐person level. Traumatic experiences at the between‐person level moderated the within‐person level associations between the dynamic perceived conflict and negative and positive communication behavior. However, the moderating effect of traumatic experiences on the association between perceived conflict and positive communication was contrary to the hypothesis. Daily perceived conflict was associated with daily communication behavior. For those with early traumatic experiences, the relationship between negative communication and conflict was stronger than for those who had not experienced such trauma. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The aim of this study was to establish a preoperative prediction method for sparsely granulated (SG) growth hormone (GH)‐secreting pituitary adenoma, an aggressive tumour subtype with high recurrence risk, in acromegaly patients. Methods: Eighty‐three patients with GH‐secreting pituitary adenomas were included in this study. GH measurements, cytokeratin immunostaining and electron microscopy were performed to detect granulation patterns. Preoperative factors, including general, radiological and endocrinological features and acute octreotide suppression test outcomes, were compared between SG and densely granulated (DG) groups. The predictive capabilities of these features were analysed using a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and the most predictive features were combined to establish a grading scale. Results: Thirty‐nine of the 83 patients had SG GH‐secreting pituitary adenomas; 44 had DG tumours. SG tumours tended to occur in younger patients and have larger diameters and volumes, higher Knosp grades, lower GH indexes and normalized insulin‐like growth factor‐1 (IGF‐1) level, and a lower ∆GH% after octreotide treatment. The tumour size, Knosp grade, GH index and ∆GH% after octreotide treatment had good predictive performance, with area under the curve (AUC) values ranging from 0.70 to 0.80. Combining four parameters, including diameter, Knosp grade, GH index and ∆GH% after octreotide treatment, we established a grading scale for predicting SG GH‐secreting pituitary adenomas with an AUC of 0.84 and relatively high sensitivity and specificity. Conclusions: We propose a predictive method for distinguishing SG and DG GH‐secreting pituitary adenomas preoperatively. In this paper, the underwater applications of micro‐LED (light‐emitting diode) in light emission, optical detection, and solar cell are demonstrated. Based on a high‐bandwidth and low‐power micro‐LED array, duplex underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) and underwater charging are realized. Using the non‐return‐to‐zero on‐off‐keying modulation scheme, the maximum modulation bandwidth and data rate of a micro‐LED transmitter in the 2.3 m duplex UWOC system are 251.3 MHz and 660 Mbps, respectively. In addition, the micro‐LED‐based photodetector can achieve maximum data rates of 52.5 and 60 Mbps at 0 and −5 V in the same UWOC system, respectively. Furthermore, while achieving the communication function, the micro‐LED is used to realize the collection of external light energy, which is successfully employed to drive a 660 nm laser diode, proving the photovoltaic power generation of micro‐LED. This experiment has made a breakthrough in the duplex UWOC system based on an InGaN micro‐LED array, and verifies significant potential of micro‐LED application in the field of duplex UWOC and underwater charging. Specifically designed compact disk (CD)‐shaped microchannels in the CGG module could thoroughly mix the flowing solutions and generate a linear concentration gradient of nanoparticles without aggregation. We combine the CGG with a single‐cell trapper array (SCA) on microfluidics to evaluate the concentration‐dependent bioeffects of the nanoparticles. The precise control of the spatiotemporal generation of nanoparticle concentration on the CGG module and the single‐cell‐level monitoring of the cell behaviors on the SCA module by a high‐content system in real time, render the CGG‐SCA system a highly precise platform, which can exclude the average effect of cell population and reflect the response of individual cells to the gradient concentrations accurately. Man‐made superhydrophobic membranes are of interest for various applications in energy, environment, and medical fields. However, simultaneously achieving durable superhydrophobicity, robust waterproofness, and high breathability of the membranes is still challenging. Herein, an efficient and powerful strategy is reported to create superhydrophobic membranes with perdurable liquid repellency and robust breathability via combining humidity‐induced electrospinning with coat‐crosslinking technology. The micro/nano rough structure is in situ constructed based on manipulating the phase separation of electrospun jets; meanwhile, the waterborne acrylic resins are bridged to the surface of nanofiber to endow the membranes with stable low surface energy via coating and crosslinking treatment. Eventually, the resultant membranes present superhydrophobicity with a water contact angle of ≈154°, good self‐cleaning and anti‐icing properties, robust waterproofness of 83.4 kPa, and high breathability of 3.71 kg m−2 d−1. More interestingly, the nanomaterials can maintain durable superhydrophobicity even after exposure to various severe conditions. The successful creation of high‐performance superhydrophobic membranes opens a new avenue for synthesizing advanced functional materials for application in a variety of fields. A plant‐derived phenolic compound, namely 3‐p‐trans‐coumaroyl‐2‐hydroxyquinic acid (CHQA), has recently been reported to exhibit antibacterial and antibiofilm activities against Staphylococcus aureus. In this study, the combined transcriptomic and proteomic analyses was used to elucidate the molecular mechanism of CHQA against S. aureus. The results showed that subinhibitory concentration of CHQA induced wide and significant changes in S. aureus at both transcriptional and translational levels with 935 differentially expressed genes and 438 differentially expressed proteins. Bioinformatic analysis indicated that the changed genes and proteins were mainly involved in cell membrane, ribosome and translation, DNA repair, fatty acid biosynthesis and metabolism, amino acid biosynthesis, peptidoglycan synthesis, and bacterial infection. Moreover, downregulation of various surface proteins associated with cell adhesion was observed, which probably further inhibited the biofilm formation of S. aureus. These results revealed that CHQA exerted antibacterial activity through multifarious mechanisms, which especially targeted bacterial cell membrane and then triggered diverse cellular dysfunctions. Background and objectives: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a connective tissue disorder (CTD) associated with an increased risk of malignancy including lung cancer (LC). Our objective was to provide a description of demographics and clinicopathological characteristics of LC patients with SSc. Methods: Lung cancer patients with SSc admitted to Peking Union Medical College Hospital from January 2000 to August 2017 were reviewed. Demographic and clinicopathologic data were collected. Results: Of the 12 cases included in our study, all were female. No patients had a history of smoking. The most common histological type was adenocarcinoma, followed by squamous cell carcinoma and small‐cell carcinoma. No driver mutation was identified in the five patients undergoing genetic testing. Eight patients had interstitial lung disease (ILD). Six were manifested as nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP) and two as usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP). Four (33.3%) patients underwent surgical resection. Among them, two had ILD with a normal preoperative pulmonary function tests (PFT). Eight (66.7%) patients received chemotherapy. Radiotherapy was administered in only one (8.3%) patient. No grade 3/4 adverse events were documented. Conclusion: The predominance of female patients in our study is different from that reported in general lung cancer patients. A high proportion of patients has SSc‐ILD, including NSIP and UIP. Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the patterns of posttraumatic responses among breast cancer (BC) patients, to explore the variables associated with these patterns, and to compare anxiety and depression on various posttraumatic response patterns.Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted with a sample of 612 BC patients who were currently undergoing treatment. The questionnaire package included Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptom Scale (PSS), Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI), Network of Relationships Inventory, Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Modeling was performed using a latent profile analysis (LPA) to explore patterns of posttraumatic responses among BC patients.Results: Based on the fitting indicators of LPA, three-class patterns model of posttraumatic responses was optimal. Resisting group (34.6%): patients reported mild posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) and mild posttraumatic growth (PTG). Growth group (47.4%): patients showed mild PTSS and high PTG. Struggling group (18.0%): patients showed high PTSS and high PTG. BC patients with lower income were more likely to belong to Resisting group and Struggling group. BC patients with high levels of social support were more likely to belong to Growth group. Patients in Struggling group had the highest levels of anxiety and depression.Conclusions: This study showed that there was heterogeneity in posttraumatic response patterns of BC patients. The results provided theoretical base guiding the development of health care schemes and psychological interventions for patients, suggesting the necessity of differentiated health care for BC patients with different posttraumatic response patterns. Summary: Wine ageing is of great importance to the quality and organoleptic properties of Huangjiu. The aim of the present work was to investigate the effect of ageing temperature on the content changes in ethyl carbamate (EC) and its precursors including citrulline, arginine, ornithine and urea in Hakka Huangjiu. Aroma compound changes were also detected using headspace solid‐phase microextraction coupled with gas chromatography spectrometry. Results indicated that with the increase in ageing temperature, citrulline and EC concentrations increased, whereas arginine and ornithine concentrations decreased. Urea was decreased slightly from 4 to 20 °C while increased at 37 °C. Pearson test demonstrated that ageing temperature had significant correlation with EC and arginine. The concentrations of aroma compounds, especially esters, alcohols, acids and heterocyclic compounds were different in different ageing temperatures. Background: It acknowledged that skin care is an important part of atopic dermatitis therapy. However, clinical evidences are limited for the best bathing practices, especially the skin health performance of cleansing products on children's atopic dermatitis skin. Methods: A randomised controlled clinical study was conducted in China among 4‐ to 18‐year‐old children with mild‐to‐moderate atopic dermatitis to evaluate the skin health effect of three cleansing systems (a mild synthetic bar, an ultra‐mild body wash with lipids, and an ultra‐mild body wash with lipids and zinc pyrithione) by measuring SCORing of Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD), consumption of topical corticosteroid and the characteristics of microbiome. Results: Increased Staphylococcus aureus abundance and decreased microbial diversity were observed in atopic dermatitis lesion sites compared with healthy control sites. After 4 weeks of treatment, all three treatments showed clinically important improvement from baseline in SCORAD. Four‐week corticosteroid consumption was significantly lower for the two body wash groups than the bar group. A significant decrease in S. aureus abundance and increase in microbial diversity were observed in the lesion sites for the two body wash formulas, while the microbial diversity was statistically insignificant for the mild cleansing bar group. However, there were no incremental benefits provided by the body wash formulas based on the assessment of SCORAD. Conclusions: These results demonstrated the safety and efficacy of using the investigational body wash formulas with lipids in reducing the needs for corticosteroid and improving the healthy composition of skin microbiome vs. the mild synthetic bar soap. 24S‐hydroxycholesterol (HC) is most abundant oxysterols in the brain, passes through blood brain barrier, and is therefore regarded as an intermediary for brain cholesterol elimination. We reported that large‐conductance Ca2+‐ and voltage‐activated K+ (slo1 BK) channels are suppressed by this oxysterol, which is presumably intercalated into cell membrane to access the outer surface of the channel. Such an outer approach would make it difficult to interact with the inner, ion‐conducting part of the channel. The present findings showed that 24R‐HC, the racemic counterpart of 24S‐HC, also suppressed slo1 BK channel but in a different voltage‐dependent manner. There was a difference between the effects of the two enantiomers on activation kinetics but not on deactivation kinetics. It is suggested that the chirality contributes to the efficacy of channel blockers that act from outer lipophilic parts of channels, as with those which act on the inner, ion‐permeable surface. The usage of traditional Chinese medicines has expanded globally, but the data about authentication, efficacy, and safety is far from sufficient to meet the criteria supporting their use worldwide due to complexity in the composition. Fingerprinting describes integral characterization and reflects interactive aspects of complex components; therefore, it can offer the possibility of evaluating quality of traditional Chinese medicines following the overall principle. Chemometric techniques introduce multivariate analytical methods into fingerprinting to obtain more information that is useful, which is consistent with the holistic thought and plays an important role in research on the substantial basis. In this review, we will start with three aspects to expound the quality evaluation of traditional Chinese medicines based on fingerprints. The analytical techniques used in developing fingerprints including chromatographic methods, spectroscopic methods, and capillary electrophoresis are introduced. Strategies for fingerprints analysis usually based on chemometric methods including unsupervised and supervised pattern recognition are described. Applications of fingerprints for multi‐component quantification, quality control, screening of bioactive components, and fingerprint‐efficacy relationship study are also outlined. Finally, we propose challenges and future perspectives of fingerprints in quality evaluation to promote the development of modernization and internationalization of traditional Chinese medicines. Objective: To determine the accurate age‐adjusted incidence of prostate small cell carcinoma (SCC), update the clinical and pathological characteristics, as well as survival data of prostate SCC from Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) datasets. Methods: A total of 260 patients with prostate SCC were selected from the SEER database of the National Cancer Institute between 2004 and 2015. Age‐adjusted incidence (AAI) rates, the observed and relative survival rates were evaluated over time by the SEER*Stat Software version 8.3.5. Overall survival (OS) rates that stratified by summary stage and treatment effects were evaluated by Kaplan‐Meier method. The significant differences were assessed in a log‐rank test. Univariate and multivariate cox hazard regression analysis were performed to determine independent predictors of OS. Results: The incidence of prostate SCC has increased over time. The average age of prostate SCC patients was 70.25 years. More than 90% of tumors were poorly differentiated or undifferentiated. The majority of prostate SCC (77.7%) was at stage IV. 49% of patients had lymph node metastases and 68% of patients presented distant metastases (Compared with 60.5% of patients with distant metastases between 1973‐2003). Interestingly only 23.5% patients had high level PSA (>10 ng/mL). 58.8% of patients underwent chemotherapy, 25.4% of patients were treated by surgery, and 31.9% of patients were treated by radiotherapy. The observed survival rates of 1‐year, 2‐year, and 5‐year were 42.1%, 22.1%, and 12.5%, respectively (Compared with 47.9%, 27.5%, and 14.3%, respectively, between 1973 and 2003). Chemotherapy prolonged the OS of patients with regional (distant) metastases from 3 months (2 months) to 12 months (9 months). Multivariate cox regression analysis showed age, race, and stage were independent prognostic factors for prostate SCC patients. Conclusion: Prostate SCC is a highly malignant cancer and our analysis of recent data has shown its incidence is increasing. Incidence rate of metastatic prostate SCC has increased and the survival rates have worsened in recent years. However, chemotherapy shows some survival benefit for prostate SCC patients with regional and distant metastasis over other treatment methods. Background Methods Results Conclusions Social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties (SEBDs) tend to develop during adolescence. Their presence and especially co‐occurrence induce numerous disrupting consequences, including suicidality. A recently developed network analysis is suitable to investigate the symptom‐level structure of comorbid psychopathology. Rather than pairwise comorbidity networks, the current study investigated a comprehensive network of SEBDs at the symptom level and explored the differential relationships between symptoms of SEBDs and suicidality.Recruited from four public schools in China, a sample of adolescents (N = 6974, mean age = 15.84, 50.1% boys) were assessed with the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) and one suicidality‐related item. The cross‐sectional network structure of the SEBD symptoms was investigated. The differential associations between individual symptoms of SEBDs and suicidality were also explored with a relative importance analysis.The results showed that constantly fidgeting, worry a lot, unhappy, down‐hearted, tearful, and easily scared emerged as the most central symptoms in the network of SEBDs. Worry a lot, constantly fidgeting, lose my temper, and being bullied served as bridge symptoms, connecting various domains of SEBDs. In addition, the centrality of symptoms was positively associated with the variance shared with suicidality, with worry a lot and unhappy, down‐hearted, and tearful explaining a large portion of the variance of suicidality.Taken together, the results were indicative of close connections among emotional, hyperactivity‐inattention, peer, and conduct aspects of adolescent mental health difficulties, as well as the central role of emotional difficulties in the SEBDs network. Conventional liquid electrolytes for lithium batteries usually suffer from irreversible decomposition and safety concerns. Solid state electrolytes (SSEs) have been considered as the key for advanced lithium batteries with improved energy density and safety, whereas challenges remain for polymer and inorganic SSEs. Recently, hybrid solid‐state electrolytes (HSSEs) that integrate the merits of different electrolyte systems have been under intensive study. Herein, we summarize the recent progress of HSSEs with different compositions and structures. The design principle of each type of HSSEs are discussed, as well as their ionic conducting mechanism, electrochemical performance and effects of compositional/structural control. Finally, challenges and perspectives are provided for the future development of HSSEs and solid‐state lithium batteries. Hybrid solid‐state electrolytes (HSSEs) are keys to the development of lithium batteries with enhanced energy density and safety. Abstract: Erythritol and citric acid could be produced from waste cooking oil (WCO) by Yarrowia lipolytica under different medium conditions, and osmotic pressure together with pH were considered to be the critical factors in this process. High osmotic pressure (2.76 osmol/L) combined with low pH (pH 3.0) promoted the highest yield of erythritol (21.8 g/L) accompanied by low‐producing citric acid (2.5 g/L). By contrast, the highest citric acid biosynthesis (12.6 g/L) was detected under a pH of 6.0 and an osmotic pressure of 0.75 osmol/L, when only 4.0 g/L of erythritol was yielded. Moreover, lipase activities in these two media were also detected, and pH 3.0–OP 2.76 was supposed to be more beneficial to lipase activity. Biochemical pathways involved in the biosynthesis of erythritol and citric acid were subsequently investigated, and the products yielded from WCO were assumed to be correlated with the activities of transketolase, erythrose reductase, citrate synthase, and glycerol kinase. However, RT‐PCR analysis revealed that mRNA levels of these enzymes did not significantly differ, confirming that metabolic flux regulations of erythritol and citric acid mostly took place at the post‐transcriptional level. Aim: Apatinib, an oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor mainly targeting VEGFR-2, exerts both antiangiogenesis and antiproliferation effects. Apatinib shows clinical benefit in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) at an initial dose of 750 mg qd. We further assessed the efficacy and safety of apatinib at amore frequently used dose of 500 mg qd. The preliminary clinical outcome of apatinib in patients with brain metastases was also reported. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical data of 25 patients who received apatinib between August 2015 and May 2016. Progression-free survival (PFS) was calculated by using the Kaplan-Meier method. Results: The objective response rate and disease control rate were 8.0% and 68.0%, respectively. The median PFS was 5.17 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.76-9.57) months. In the second-line setting (n = 13), the median PFS was 7.37 (95% CI: 0.01-14.72) months, whereas the median PFS for the 12 patients treated with apatinib as third line or beyond therapy was 5.17 (95% CI: 1.78-8.55) months. Of the seven patients with brain metastases, four patients had stable disease. All patients were well tolerant to apatinib without any grade 3 or 4 adverse events. The most common grade 1 or 2 adverse events included hypertension (72.0%), hand-foot-skin reaction (24.0%), fatigue (24.0%) and abnormal liver function (20.0%). Conclusions: Apatinib is effective and well tolerated in patients with advanced NSCLC, even at a dosage of 500 mg qd, and might offer a new option for the treatment of such patients with brain metastases. Abstract: Novel phenanthroline Schiff base fluorescent sensors L1, L2, and D1 were designed and synthesized. The sensing abilities of the compounds in the presence of metal cations (Li+, Na+, K+, Ag+, Mg2+, Ba2+, Ca2+, Mn2+, Pb2+, Hg2+, Ni2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, Co2+, Cu2+, Cr3+, Fe3+, Fe2+, Al3+, and Eu3+) were studied by UV‐vis and fluorescent spectroscopy. The compounds L1, L2, and D1 could act as Eu3+ ion turn‐off fluorescent sensors based on ligand‐to‐metal binding mechanism in DMSO‐H2O solution (v/v = 1:1, 10 mM Tris, pH = 7.4). Additionally, the L1–Eu3+ and D1–Eu3+ complexes could be applied as turn‐on enantioselective sensors sensing of malate anion isomers with color changes. Furthermore, biological experiments using living PC‐12 cells demonstrated that L1 and D1 had excellent membrane permeability and could be used as effective fluorescent sensors for detecting Eu3+ and malate anion in living cells. Aim Squamous cell carcinoma is a less common type of nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) which associates with a poor clinical prognosis and lacks specific therapy. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of icotinib, an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor that has proven to be effective in EGFR-mutated NSCLC, in patients with lung squamous-cell cancer. Methods Retrospective analysis was conducted in patients who had advanced lung squamous-cell cancer confirmed by cytology or histology. Patients were treated orally with icotinib (125 mg, three times daily) until event of unacceptable toxicity, disease progression or death. The primary endpoint was overall survival. The secondary endpoints were progression-free survival, overall response rate and disease control rate. Results Between January 2014 and May 2016, 20 patients were enrolled and evaluated for the efficacy and safety of icotinib. Overall, the median overall survival and progression-free survival were 9.93 months (95% confidence interval (CI): 3.46-16.40) and 3.0 months (95% CI: 0.00-8.35), respectively. The overall response rate and disease control rate were 20% and 70%, respectively. For treatment-naive patients ( n = 11), the overall survival and progression-free survival were 9.93 months (95% CI: 0.00-23.49) and 6.27 months (95% CI: 0.00-12.61); the response rate and disease control rate were 27.3% and 54.5%, respectively. The overall survival and progression-free survival of patients treated with second- or multiple-line icotinib treatment ( n = 9) were 6.5 months (95% CI: 0.80-12.20) and 1.2 months (95% CI: 1.10-1.30). A total of 11 patients experienced at least one treatment-related adverse event, most of which were mild to moderate. The most common manifestations were rash ( n = 6, 30%) followed by diarrhea ( n = 2, 10%). Group B Streptococcus ( GBS) causes life-threatening bacterial sepsis, especially in newborns and pregnant women. Patients suffering from sepsis often display low platelet counts, characterized by thrombocytopenia, because of platelet activation. In the present study, the roles of six GBS strains from septic patients in platelet aggregation, as well as the underlying mechanisms, were investigated. Incubation of platelets with three of the strains induced platelet aggregation, increased the secretion of cellular adhesin molecule CD62P and activation of GPIIb/ IIIa. Furthermore, the GBS strains that induced platelet activation also caused an increase in the expression of Toll-like receptor ( TLR) 2 in platelets. Pre-incubation of platelets with anti- TLR2 monoclonal antibody, but not anti- TLR4 monoclonal antibody, inhibited these functional responses induced by GBS. TLR2 stimulation also activated the phosphoinositide 3-kinase ( PI3-K)/Akt signalling pathway in platelets, and inhibition of PI3-K significantly reduced GBS-induced platelet responses. Our results indicate that three of the GBS strains from the septic patients can trigger platelet activation by interacting with platelets, which involves the elevation of platelet TLR2 expression. Yarrowia lipolytica is able to secrete large amounts of citric acid (CA), which is greatly affected by the dissolved oxygen concentration (DOC) in the fermentation medium. In this study, oleic acid was selected as oxygen-vector to improve DOC during CA fermentation. When 2% (v/v) of oleic acid was added to the culture broth, higher DOC (>42.1%) was determined throughout the CA synthesis phase. The yield of CA reached a maximum of 32.1 g/L (25.4% higher than the control) and the biomass was 8.8 g/L. The substrate uptake rate, products formation rate and key enzyme activities were also determined, and the results indicated that CA synthesis was strengthened with oleic acid addition. Furthermore, it was detected that oleic acid could be assimilated by the cells, which means that oleic acid could be served both as oxygen-vector and co-substrate for CA synthesis by Y. lipolytica. In a bioreactor with working volume of 3 L, the highest concentration of CA reached to 36. 4 g/L in the presence of 2% (v/v) oleic acid after 192 h of fermentation. The correlation between the crystallization temperature and ferroelectric properties is studied by the measurements of impedance spectroscopy, activation energy, dielectric breakdown strength and dielectric constant in Na0.9K0.1NbO3 glass-ceramics, while different nucleating agents are added to optimize performance. It is found that the glass-ceramics crystallized at the temperatures of the second exothermic peak (about 900°C) have higher crystal degree, lager interface numbers and larger amount of bulk charges accumulated at the interfaces. However, the higher crystal degree of ferroelectric phase results in a lower value of resistivity and Ea which represent better charge spreading behavior. The better charge spreading behavior and drastic increase in the accumulation of bulk charge also result in low breakdown strength. The results show that the glass-ceramics heated at the temperature of first exothermic peak (about 700°C) with a reasonable crystal degree obtain higher energy storage density which is 1.94 J/cm3. A bioinspired nanocomposite composed of platinum nanoparticles and nanotubular titania was fabricated in which the titania matter was templated by natural cellulose substance. The composite possesses three- dimensional hierarchical structures, and ultrafine metallic platinum particles with sizes of ca. 2 nm were immobilized uniformly on the surfaces of the titania nanotubes. Such a nanocomposite with 1.06 wt % of platinum content shows the optimal photocatalytic hydrogen production activity from water splitting of 16.44 mmol h−1 g−1, and excessive loading of platinum results in poorer photocatalytic performance. * Premise o f the study: The fossil record of alder (Alnus) is well known in the Cenozoic deposits throughout the northern hemisphere, based on numerous reports of the distinctive pollen, cone-like infructescences, staminate inflorescences, and leaves. However, our understanding of the systematic position of these fossils relative to the modern phytogeny of the genus has been limited because most fossils were described from only one organ. * Methods: We examined well-preserved leaves and associated fruiting and staminate catkins from the middle Eocene, Clarno Formation, Oregon, USA by stereomicroscopy. In situ and dispersed pollen were cleaned with HF and acetolized for light and scanning electron microscopy. * Key results: We reconstructed a new extinct species based on multiple organs and discuss significant phytogeographic and phylogenetic implications for Alnus. Alnus clamoensis sp. nov. is described based on serrate leaves with 1-4 small teeth between each primary tooth, associated cone-like fruiting catkins with fruits in situ, and associated slender pollen catkins beating in situ 3- to 6-pored pollen with arci between the pores. Combined investigations of each organ indicate that they probably derive from the same species and can be confidently attributed to subgenus Alnus Furlow based on leaf architecture and pollen pore number frequency. * Conclusions: The Clarno fossils are most similar to the extant North American species of subgenus Alnus rather than to those from Asia and Europe, indicating that this modern subgenus was already distinct by the middle Eocene and that the intercontinental migration likely occurred earlier. Copper has been reported to be active in selective hydrogenation of acetylene but very selective to oligomers instead of ethylene. In this work, SBA-15 supported Cu-Au bimetallic nanoparticles are studied under different Cu/Au ratios and temperature. The addition of gold promotes the catalytic performance, reducing the amount of oligomers formed on the catalyst's surface. A synergistic effect between copper and gold is also displayed. The bimetallic catalyst with Cu/Au ratio at 1/3 has both better conversion and selectivity between 160-200 °C, providing the opportunities to lower the operating temperature (>200 °C) of copper. The synergy can be ascribed to the compromise of two factors: the electronic effect and the sintering resistance of bimetallic nanoparticles. Gold makes copper more electron-deficient, therefore, enhances the conversion. Besides, the particles remain highly dispersed and small (ca. 3 nm) when large amount of gold reduces the ensemble size of copper on the surface, minimizing C-C coupling reactions. A simple and efficient protocol for Fe/Cu cocatalyzed oxidative homocoupling reaction of terminal alkynes to symmetrical 1,4-disubstituted-1,3-diynes was presented. The results showed that both CuBr and FeCl3 played crucial roles in the reaction. It is noteworthy that this protocol employs mild, efficient, aerobic and ligand free conditions. High-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), a nuclear and extracellular protein, is implicated in the development and progression of some types of cancers. However, no information is available to date regarding the function of HMGB1 in ovarian cancer. In this study, we performed cDNA microarray analysis and identified HMGB1 as a gene dramatically elevated in the highly invasive subclone S1 compared with the low invasive subclone S21 derived from the same cell line SKOV3. Then lentivirus vector with HMGB1 shRNA was constructed and infected the highly invasive cell line S1, A1, and HO8910PM. Real-time RT-PCR, Western blot, and IHC results confirmed the down-regulation of HMGB1 expression by its shRNA was about 80-90% at both the mRNA and protein levels. Knockdown of HMGB1 significantly suppressed ovarian cancer cell proliferation and induced cell cycle arrest at the G1/G0 phase, which was accompanied by decreased expressions of cyclin D1 and PCNA. Furthermore, knockdown of HMGB1 induced ovarian cancer cell apoptosis, which was mediated by increased expression of Bax and decreased expression of Bcl-2. Finally, knockdown of HMGB1 significantly inhibited ovarian cancer cell invasion and metastasis, which was regulated by decreased expressions of MMP2 and MMP9. Serum HMGB1 levels in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer were significantly higher than that in patients with benign ovarian tumor and healthy controls. These results indicate that HMGB1 is a newly identified gene associated with ovarian cancer growth and metastasis. Atezolizumab is approved as an intravenous (IV) infusion for use as a single agent and in combination with other therapies in a number of indications. The objectives of this publication are to characterize atezolizumab pharmacokinetics (PK) across indications with the available clinical data from one phase I and eight phase III studies, to determine the exposure–response (ER) relationships in combination settings across a variety of tumor types, and to provide the clinical safety to support the extension of the 840 mg q2w, 1200 mg q3w, and 1680 mg q4w IV dosing regimens across various indications in combination settings. Across all clinical studies, atezolizumab PK remained in the dose‐linear range and were similar across tumor types when used in combination therapy or as a monotherapy. In the combination studies, efficacy was independent of the exposures tested and there was no significant increase in adverse events with increasing atezolizumab exposure (flat ER). The safety profile of atezolizumab in the individual combination studies was generally consistent with the established safety profile of atezolizumab, the combination partners, and the disease under study. The similar atezolizumab PK across monotherapy and combination therapy settings as well as the flat ER in new tumor types and combination therapies support the use of the 3 interchangeable atezolizumab dosing regimens in the combination setting. In general, doping foreign ions into BaTiO3 is the frequently utilized strategy in order to obtain excellent electrocaloric materials for the practical application. In the current paper, BaTiO3 lead‐free ferroelectric ceramics were doped by Ca2+ and Sn4+ simultaneously in order to generate a coexistence state at room temperature, where ferroelectric domains and nanodomains exit. As a result, a large polarization and a wide operating temperature range were finally induced. It is found that Ba0.9Ca0.1Ti0.85Sn0.15O3 has a maximum adiabatic temperature change of 0.85 K and an excellent working temperature region (65 K, ∆T > 90% Tmax) was achieved under an electric field of 50 kV/cm. The above phenomenon indicates that the modified BaTiO3 ceramics can be a good potential electrocaloric material in the state of cross‐existence of ferroelectric domains and nanodomains. Aims: Existing research indicates that patients with heart failure (HF) may have restricted access to guideline‐directed medical therapy (GDMT) when their blood pressure (BP) is comparatively low. However, recent clinical trials suggest that HF patients with low BP could still benefit from certain HF medications, which have a minimal impact on BP. This systematic review and meta‐analysis was conducted to determine whether this applies to all GDMT. Methods and results: A systematic search of MEDLINE and EMBASE was conducted for studies published from inception to 10 January 2024. Randomized controlled trials were selected if they reported on the longitudinal change of systolic BP (SBP) due to GDMT, or the risks of cardiovascular events in HF patients based on SBP categories. Weighted mean difference (WMD), hazard ratio or relative risk, and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) were pooled for meta‐analysis where possible. Data from 20 studies, encompassing information on 84 782 individuals, were analysed. Overall, GDMT is associated with lower SBP (WMD, −2.16; 95% CI −2.86 to −1.46), with no significant difference between baseline low and non‐low BP subgroups (interaction p = 0.810). However, SBP of the treatment group increased by 5.8 mmHg from baseline in the low SBP subgroup during follow‐up, while it decreased by 4.0 mmHg in the baseline non‐low SBP subgroup. GDMT demonstrated similar cardiovascular benefits and risk of hypotension between low and non‐low SBP subgroups (interaction p = 0.318 and 0.903, respectively). Conclusions: Guideline‐directed medical therapy is associated with a negligible decrease in SBP, but can provide similar cardiovascular benefits in both low and non‐low SBP HF patients, with no significant interaction with SBP as to hypotension. Next‐generation light source facilities offer extreme spatial and temporal resolving power, enabling multiscale, ultra‐fast and dynamic characterizations. However, a trade‐off between acquisition efficiency and data quality needs to be made to fully unleash the resolving potential, for which purpose powerful denoising algorithms to improve the signal‐to‐noise ratio of the acquired X‐ray images are desirable. Yet, existing models based on machine learning mostly require massive and diverse labeled training data. Here we introduce a self‐supervised pre‐training algorithm with blind denoising capability by exploring the intrinsic physical symmetry of X‐ray patterns without requiring high signal‐to‐noise ratio reference data. The algorithm is more efficient and effective than algorithms without symmetry involved, including an supervised algorithm. It allows us to recover physical information from spatially and temporally resolved data acquired in X‐ray diffraction/scattering and pair distribution function experiments, where pattern symmetry is often well preserved. Activated microglia in the retina are essential for the development of autoimmune uveitis. Yin‐Yang 1 (YY1) is an important transcription factor that participates in multiple inflammatory and immune‐mediated diseases. Here, an increased YY1 lactylation in retinal microglia within in the experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU) group is observed. YY1 lactylation contributed to boosting microglial activation and promoting their proliferation and migration abilities. Inhibition of lactylation suppressed microglial activation and attenuated inflammation in EAU. Mechanistically, cleavage under targets & tagmentation （CUT&Tag） analysis revealed that YY1 lactylation promoted microglial activation by regulating the transcription of a set of inflammatory genes, including STAT3, CCL5, IRF1, IDO1, and SEMA4D. In addition, p300 is identified as the writer of YY1 lactylation. Inhibition of p300 decreased YY1 lactylation and suppressed microglial inflammation in vivo and in vitro. Collectively, the results showed that YY1 lactylation promoted microglial dysfunction in autoimmune uveitis by upregulating inflammatory cytokine secretion and boosting cell migration and proliferation. The Shabyar tablet is commonly used as a traditional ethnic medicine prescription for the treatment of night blindness, poor vision, and headaches. However, the chemical components of the Shabyar tablet have not been holistically explored, which seriously hinders the discovery of the activity. This study qualitatively and quantitatively investigated the overall chemical profile of the Shabyar tablet using ultra‐high‐performance liquid chromatography hyphenated with quadrupole‐orbitrap high‐resolution mass spectrometry. Altogether, 170 chemical components, including 59 flavonoids, 78 organic acids, 12 anthranones, three anthraquinones, one naphthalene, and 17 other compounds were tentatively identified and attributed, with 40 among these being unambiguously characterized in comparison with their corresponding authentic standards. To further determine the major representative constituents of the Shabyar tablet, a quantitative method was used for the simultaneous analysis of 33 characteristic components in Shabyar samples. The results were validated in terms of linearity, precision, repeatability, stability, and recovery. This newly developed approach could be successfully employed for evaluating the holistic quality of crude extracts and Chinese medicines in the Shabyar compound tablet and provide a solid chemical foundation for additional investigations on in vivo pharmacodynamics and therapeutic mechanisms to identify the potential effective components of traditional medicines.
