Herein, a 1300 MPa grade complex phase steel with high formability (CH) is developed, which is achieved through the formation of cementite during pretreatment and the control of austempering temperature to enhance the stability of retained austenite (RA). Due to the insufficient diffusion of Mn during cementite dissolution, Mn enrichment enhances the mechanical stability of austenite, thereby increasing austenite content at room temperature. As the austempering temperature increases from 340 °C to 400 °C, the RA content increases, but its stability decreases significantly. Compared with the content of RA, its stability is more critical for enhancing plasticity. RA formed at lower austempering temperatures is highly stable, enlarging the strain range of the transformation‐induced plasticity effect and improving material plasticity. The experimental steel achieves optimal plasticity while maintaining strength when overaged at 360 °C. Specifically, the yield strength is 963 MPa, the ultimate tensile strength is 1394 MPa, and the total elongation is 14.0%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Soft robots have excellent spatial adaptability and high flexibility, but they are limited by the low stiffness of their constituent materials when faced with high‐load tasks. In recent years, there have been many works on the development of stiffness‐tunable soft actuators by introducing variable stiffness materials into soft actuators, but the existing solutions usually suffer from the problems of slow response, complex structure, and the need of many auxiliary devices to support the completion of the stiffness tuning cycle. This paper proposes a tendon‐driven stiffness‐tunable soft actuator that addresses these issues. Benefiting from the bidirectional temperature control of thermoelectric modules and the excellent in‐plane thermal conductivity of graphene, the actuator is capable of achieving the heating and cooling process by transferring the heat flow through the graphene structure into and out of the shape‐memory polymer (SMP) layer of the tendon‐driven actuator. This enables stiffness tuning via a single device, reducing the dependence on complex external cooling systems. The use of tendon‐driven actuators further eliminates the complex bellow structure of conventional pneumatic actuators and dramatically reduces the size and manufacturing difficulty of individual actuators. Finally, the high load capacity and shape adaptability of the actuator are demonstrated by a gripper equipped with three actuators, which successfully grips objects of various shapes and weights, ranging from less than 10 g to up to 1.6 kg. The complex heat transfer processes occurring in a magnetized water‐based hybrid nanofluid flowing past a stretching or shrinking wedge are investigated in this work. The research highlights the significant influence of the wedge angle on fluid flow patterns and temperature gradients, emphasizing how larger angles cause changes in pressure, flow separation, and temperature profiles. Additionally, the study emphasizes the importance of radiation effects near surfaces, where increased radiation often leads to cooling due to thermal energy emission. The findings have implications in industries such as aerospace, electronics, thermal management, and groundwater resources management where precise temperature control is critical for safe and efficient operations. The numerical method applied to solve the governing equations in the study is the fourth‐order Runge–Kutta technique with shooting technique. This method efficiently solves the boundary value problem by converting it into a system of first‐order initial value problems. Then shooting technique is used to solve the system, starting with an adequate initial guess. The study's results are presented in tabular and graphical forms, providing valuable insights into the complex fluid dynamics and thermal behavior in the given setting, enabling more informed decision‐making and optimization in relevant engineering applications. ABSTRACT Traditional photosynthesis‐driven growth models have considerable uncertainties in predicting tree growth under changing climates, partially because sink activities are directly affected by the environment but not adequately addressed in growth modelling. Therefore, we developed a semi‐mechanistic model coupling stomatal optimality, temperature control of enzymatic activities and phenology of cambial growth. Parameterized using Bayesian inference and measured data on Picea abies and Pinus sylvestris in peatland and mineral soils in Finland, the coupled model simulates transpiration and assimilation rates and stem radial dimension (SRD) simultaneously at 30 min resolution. The results suggest that both the sink and phenological formulations with environmental effects are indispensable for capturing SRD dynamics across hourly to seasonal scales. Simulated using the model, growth was more sensitive than assimilation to temperature and soil water, suggesting carbon gain is not driving growth at the current temporal scale. Also, leaf‐specific production was occasionally positively correlated with growth duration but not with growth onset timing or annual cambial area increment. Thus, as it is hardly explained by carbon gain, phenology itself should be included in sink‐driven growth models of the trees in the boreal zone and possibly other environments where sink activities and photosynthesis are both restrained by harsh conditions. Van der Waals (vdW) heterojunctions composed of GaN/graphene have high transmittance and excellent carrier transport properties. The combination of multidimensional hybrid heterojunctions with metasurfaces can open up many fascinating prospects for novel optical components over a broad range of the electromagnetic spectrum. This work experimentally demonstrates a multifunctional temperature‐sensitive meta‐device based on GaN/graphene vdW heterojunctions integrated with a metasurface. Notably, it is discovered that the conductivity of the vdW heterojunctions increases rapidly when it is excited by a thermal signal, resulting in a significant change in the relative phase retardation as well as amplitude modulation of an incident THz wave. Then a continuous wavelet transform is used instead of the traditional Fourier transform, and the two‐dimensional wavelet coefficient card is built to achieve fast detection over a wider range of temperature. Simultaneously, the variation of temperature dynamically controls the contributions of the multipoles, eventually determining the active switching of exotic anapoles with extreme non‐radiative confinement to highly radiative electric dipoles. This work offers the possibility of designing novel chip‐scale multifunctional thermal tuning devices and promotes the potential application of active micro‐nanophotonic devices in temperature sensors, terahertz modulators, and dynamic near‐field imaging. Synthetic duplexes with high stabilities have promising potential for mimicking biomolecular functions and developing supramolecular smart materials. Herein, we describe the synthesis and stimuli‐responsive properties of molecular duplexes derived from indolocarbazole–pyridine (I−P) oligomers. These duplexes adopt nonclassical helical structures, stabilized by I−P hydrogen‐bonding pairs in anhydrous chlorinated solvents. Notably, the longest duplex 62 (11‐mer)2 displays remarkable stability, forming twenty hydrogen bonds; its exchange energy barrier was determined to be ΔG≠=22.0 kcal ⋅ mol−1 at 75 °C in anhydrous (CDCl2)2. Upon the addition of water, a hydrated duplex 62 (11‐mer)2⊃10H2O was formed, with one water molecule inserted between each I−P hydrogen‐bonding pair. The Hill coefficient (n) for this process is 6.1, demonstrating extremely positive cooperativity. Conversely, the hydrated duplex 62 (11‐mer)2⊃10H2O was completely converted into the original anhydrous duplex 62 (11‐mer)2 when the temperature was increased. Interconversion between these two distinct duplexes can be repeatedly carried out by varying the temperature. Furthermore, reversible switching between hetero‐duplexes and homo‐duplexes was also demonstrated by controlling the temperature, with concomitant changes in the characteristic emission signals. ABSTRACT Warm temperatures accelerate plant growth, but the underlying molecular mechanism is not fully understood. Here, we show that increasing the temperature from 22°C to 28°C rapidly activates proliferation in the apical shoot and root meristems of wild‐type Arabidopsis seedlings. We found that one of the central regulators of cell proliferation, the cell cycle inhibitor RETINOBLASTOMA‐RELATED (RBR), is suppressed by warm temperatures. RBR became hyper‐phosphorylated at a conserved CYCLIN‐DEPENDENT KINASE (CDK) site in young seedlings growing at 28°C, in parallel with the stimulation of the expressions of the regulatory CYCLIN D/A subunits of CDK(s). Interestingly, while under warm temperatures ectopic RBR slowed down the acceleration of cell proliferation, it triggered elongation growth of post‐mitotic cells in the hypocotyl. In agreement, the central regulatory genes of thermomorphogenic response, including PIF4 and PIF7, as well as their downstream auxin biosynthetic YUCCA genes (YUC1‐2 and YUC8‐9) were all up‐regulated in the ectopic RBR expressing line but down‐regulated in a mutant line with reduced RBR level. SUMMARY: Photoperiod and temperature‐sensitive male sterility rice is an important line for two‐line hybrid rice, and the changes in the cultivation temperature strictly control its pollen fertility. However, the mechanism by which temperature variation regulates pollen fertility is still unclear. This study obtained stable fertile PA64S(F) and sterile PA64S(S) rice from PA64S by controlling temperature changes. PA64S(F) shows a normal anther development and fertile pollen under low temperature (21°C), and PA64S(S) shows delayed degradation of the tapetum cells, leading to abnormal pollen wall formation and ubisch development under normal temperature (28°C). The accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) positively correlates with the programmed cell death (PCD) process of tapetum cells. The delayed accumulation of ROS in the PA64S(S) tapetum at early stages leads to a delayed initiation of the PCD process. Importantly, we localized ascorbic acid (ASA) accumulation in the tapetum cells and determined that ASA is a major antioxidant for ROS homeostasis. ROS‐inhibited accumulation plants (PA64S‐ASA) demonstrated pollen sterility, higher ASA and lower ROS accumulation in the tapetum, and the absence of PCD processes in the tapetum cell. Abnormal changes in the tapetum of PA64S(S) rice disrupted metabolic pathways such as lipid metabolism, cutin and wax synthesis, sugar accumulation, and phenylpropane, affecting pollen wall formation and substance accumulation, suggesting that the timely accumulation of ROS is critical for male fertility. This study highlights the central role of ROS homeostasis in fertility alteration and also provides an avenue to address the effect of environmental temperature changes on pollen fertility in rice. In this study, phycocyanin obtained from Spirulina platensis extract was used at various concentrations as a natural blue color source in toffee‐type soft candy, and the effect of various storage temperatures (4, 20, and 40°C) on the color stability was investigated. In addition, main quality parameters, such as water activity, texture, and sensory analysis, were determined in the samples stored for 3 months at 20°C, and thus the effect of phycocyanin addition on the product appeal was studied. According to the results, the addition of phycocyanin powder did not significantly affect water activity (p >.05). As expected, L*, a*, and b* values of the samples changed with the phycocyanin, and the ΔE values of the samples stored at 4, 20, and 40°C varied between 0.14–0.44, 0.84–2.76, and 2.63–7.90, respectively, during the entire storage period. The texture analysis outputs revealed that the use of phycocyanin did not cause any change in the textural properties of the samples (p >.05). Considering the sensory analysis, all studied concentrations scored high in terms of color liking, and the use of phycocyanin in toffee‐type soft candy production resulted in a remarkable consumer appeal. Hence, the outcomes of this study show that if temperature control is performed in the production, the organoleptic properties of toffee‐type candy products can be enhanced using phycocyanin and can meet consumer requests and demands. Soil physicochemical protection, substrates, and microorganisms are thought to modulate the temperature sensitivity of soil carbon decomposition (Q10), but their regulatory roles have yet to be distinguished because of the confounding effects of concurrent changes of them. Here, we sought to differentiate these effects through microorganism reciprocal transplant and aggregate disruption experiments using soils collected from seven sites along a 5000‐km latitudinal transect encompassing a wide range of climatic conditions and from a 4‐year laboratory incubation experiment. We found direct microbial regulation of Q10, with a higher Q10 being associated with greater fungal:bacterial ratios. However, no significant direct effects of physicochemical protection and substrate were observed on the variation in Q10 along the latitudinal transect or among different incubation time points. These findings highlight that we should move forward from physicochemical protection and substrate to microbial mechanisms regulating soil carbon decomposition temperature sensitivity to understand and better predict soil carbon–climate feedback. Background: The study focuses on thermal management in tumor‐treating fields (TTFields) therapy, crucial for patient compliance and therapeutic effectiveness. TTFields therapy, an established treatment for glioblastoma, involves applying alternating electric fields to the brain. However, managing the thermal effects generated by electrodes is a major challenge, impacting patient comfort and treatment efficiency. Purpose: This research aims to explore methods for controlling temperature increases during TTFields therapy without reducing its duty cycle. The study emphasizes optimizing electrode configurations and array arrangements to mitigate temperature rise, thereby maintaining therapy effectiveness and patient compliance. Methods: Using a simplified multi‐layer tissue model and finite element analysis, various electrode configurations and array shapes were tested in COMSOL Multiphysics v6.0. Adjustments included changing the electrode gel layer radius from 8 to 12 mm, electrode spacing, and transitioning to a more uniform array arrangement, such as a square array or a circular array. Results: The study revealed a strong correlation between high temperatures and edge current density distributions on electrodes. It was found that increasing the electrode gel layer's diameter, enlarging electrode spacing, and adopting a uniform array arrangement markedly mitigated temperature rises. By increasing the gel layer radius from the original 10 to 12 mm, a reduction in the peak temperature increases of approximately 0.3°C was observed. Changing the layout from rectangular to circular with the same area further reduced the peak temperature rise by 0.5°C. Additionally, enlarging the spacing between electrodes also contributed to temperature control. By integrating these strategies, we designed a new circular electrode array with an electrode spacing of 45 mm and a gel radius of 12 mm, successfully reducing the peak temperature from 42.1°C to 40.8°C, effectively achieving temperature control. Conclusions: The research demonstrates that improving electrode and array configurations can effectively manage temperature in TTFields therapy without compromising treatment duration. This strategy is crucial as TTFields therapy relies on prolonged field exposure for effectiveness. The findings offer valuable insights into thermal management in electrode array design and could lead to enhanced patient compliance and treatment efficacy in TTFields therapy. We describe the transcription and quality control processes for rescuing around 570,000 sub‐daily and daily weather observations which were recorded in the UK Met Office Daily Weather Reports during the 1861–1875 period. These data are from the start of coordinated weather observations and were collected with the aim of making the first‐ever weather forecasts. The observations were rescued thanks to 3500 volunteers and include sub‐daily sea‐level pressure, dry and wet bulb temperatures, daily maximum and minimum temperatures, and daily rainfall amounts from 70 different locations across Western Europe, and one in Canada. We highlight how these observations will be used to fill gaps in existing pressure and temperature datasets and use two case studies to show how the pressure observations will likely better constrain the atmospheric circulation during two severe storms. We also compare a sub‐sample of the newly rescued observations with data that were previously digitized for a small number of locations for the same dates, finding good agreement in general, although some discrepancies remain. Separation of equally sized particles distinguished solely by interfacial properties remains a highly challenging task. Herein, a particle fractioning method is proposed, which is suitable to differentiate between polymer‐grafted microparticles that are equal in size. The separation relies on the combination of a pressure driven microfluidic flow, together with simultaneous light illumination and temperature control. Heating the solution forces thermo‐responsive surface grafts to undergo a volume phase transition and therefore locally changing the interfacial properties of the microparticles. Light illumination induces the phoretic/osmotic activity of the microparticles and lifts them into a higher plane, where hovering particles experience a different shear stress proportional to the height. The light‐induced hovering height depends on the interfacial properties, and this complex interaction leads to different movements of the microparticles as a function of their surface grafting. The concepts are visualized in experimental studies, where the complex physical principle provides a simple method for fractioning a binary mixture with at least one thermo‐responsive polymer graft. High temperature during early grain‐filling stage is one of the serious abiotic stresses limiting maize yield in the North China Plain. Nitrogen (N) fertiliser has an important role in promoting crop growth, especially under abiotic stresses. However, its contribution to alleviating heat stress (HS) inhibition on maize photosynthesis during early grain‐filling stage is still unclear. Experiments with three N rates (LN, low nitrogen; MN, medium nitrogen; HN, high nitrogen) and two temperature (HS, heat stress; CK, ambient temperature as control) regimes were conducted to examine the effects of increasing N supply on photosynthesis, N assimilation, antioxidant system, and hormones homeostasis of maize during early grain‐filling stage using two maize hybrids Xianyu335 (XY335, heat‐sensitive) and Zhengdan (ZD958, heat‐tolerant). HS negatively affected photosynthesis of both two hybrids, exhibited lower net photosynthetic rate, chlorophyll content and activities of Rubisco and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) compared with CK, and then decreased dry matter accumulation of maize, with a lesser extent for ZD958 than XY335. However, increasing N supply alleviated the adverse effects of HS on maize photosynthesis due to improved N assimilation capacity. Under HS condition, greater N content and higher activities of glutamine synthetase and glutamate synthase in maize ear leaf were found in treatment of HN compared with LN and MN. HN with higher N assimilation capacity directly increased the net photosynthetic rate due to improved chlorophyll content, activities of Rubisco and PEPC and antioxidant capacity. HS‐induced abscisic acid (ABA) accumulation was also repressed by HN, and then enhanced the stomatal conductance and transpiration rate to maintain higher photosynthetic capacity compared with LN and MN. Moreover, the positive effects of increasing N supply on maize photosynthesis under HS condition exhibited a larger extent for XY335 than ZD958. Brain cells can be damaged by higher temperature in the brain, and brain temperature distribution monitoring system is required from the perspective of brain preservation. Brain tissue can be further damaged by direct measurement of temperature using some sensors. Therefore, indirect methods of measuring temperature are required. In this study, we propose a method for estimating the average metabolic rate of the entire brain based on the difference between the observed and estimated blood flow temperatures that can be measured during selective brain hypothermia. Our mathematical simulator can calculate the brain temperature distribution based on the estimated average metabolic rate, taking into account other parameters like heat transfer, metabolic heat of individual tissues, heat‐washout by blood flow, and environmental temperature. The algorithm for estimating the metabolic rate of mathematical master model substituted as a human head is confirmed using the mathematical slave model on the simulator. It is possible to present the temperature distribution by estimating metabolic heat production in the brain, considering the equilibrium between heat wash‐out by the blood flow and heat transfer. In addition, an appropriate initial value of brain temperature enables the accurate temperature management enough for clinical use even in the process of temperature estimation. The development of our proposed method will make it possible to construct a non‐invasive monitoring system that presents the estimated temperature distribution in the brain instead of the conventional invasive method. Metabolism in stream ecosystems alters the fate of organic carbon (OC) received from surrounding landscapes, but our understanding of in‐stream metabolic processes in boreal ecosystems remains limited. Determining the factors that regulate OC metabolism will help predict how the C balance of boreal streams may respond to future environmental change. In this study, we addressed the question: what controls OC metabolism in boreal headwater streams draining catchments with discontinuous permafrost? We hypothesized that metabolism is collectively regulated by OC reactivity, phosphorus availability, and temperature, with discharge modulating each of these conditions. We tested these hypotheses using a combination of laboratory experiments and whole‐stream ecosystem metabolism measurements throughout the Caribou‐Poker Creeks Research Watershed (CPCRW) in Interior Alaska, USA. In the laboratory experiments, respiration and dissolved OC (DOC) removal were both co‐limited by the supply of reactive C and phosphorus, but temperature and residence time acted as stronger controls of DOC removal. Ecosystem respiration (ER) was largely predicted by discharge and site, with some variance explained by gross primary production (GPP) and temperature. Both ER and GPP varied inversely with watershed permafrost extent, with an inverse relationship between temperature and permafrost extent providing one plausible explanation. Our results provide some of the first evidence of a functional response to permafrost thaw in stream ecosystems and suggest the role of metabolism in landscape C cycling may increase as climate change progresses. In boreal streams, little is known about ecosystem metabolism and whether respiration rates might change as warming‐induced permafrost thaw progresses. To understand if and how permafrost thaw is affecting stream microbial activity, we compared respiration rates in streams draining areas with different amounts of permafrost and used lab experiments to test which factors are currently limiting microbial activity. We found that metabolic rates were greatest in streams where the most permafrost thaw had occurred. This pattern could be explained by warmer water temperature promoting faster rates of microbial activity and less flashy flow conditions allowing more time for microbes to break down organic matter before it is flushed downstream. This newly documented relationship between permafrost thaw and stream respiration should be considered in efforts to better incorporate in‐stream processes into broader carbon cycling models. The emerging concept of aerogel composite phase change materials (PCMs) represents a promising approach for thermal energy storage and utilization. However, the thermal storage aerogels currently reported usually lack essential aerogel properties, thereby constraining their potential for functional design and advanced applications. Herein, multifunctional thermal storage aerogels with aerogel characteristics and thermoregulation performance are prepared by chemically crosslinking and unidirectional freezing to make functionalized mineral‐based composite PCMs as cavity walls. Thanks to the cross–linked continuous skeleton and retained hierarchical porous, this novel thermal storage aerogel possesses an 89.7% porosity and demonstrates excellent resilience under 80% compression. As the PCMs in the cavity walls can convert phonon transport modes through phase transitions, the thermal storage aerogel has enhanced thermal insulation properties, reaching a thermal conductivity of 29.6 mW m−1 K−1. Drawing upon the multifunctional properties of thermal storage aerogels, it is demonstrated that thermal storage masks with thermal comfort and health protection, as well as passive thermal management wrist guards capable of harnessing solar radiation for temperature regulation. This work encompasses the exploration of novel approaches in developing advanced thermal management materials to cater to the diverse thermal regulation requirements of PCMs across various domains. Crystal Phase Quantum Dots (CPQDs) offer promising properties for quantum communication. How CPQDs can be formed in Au‐catalyzed GaAs nanowires using different precursor flows and temperatures by in situ environmental transmission electron microscopy (ETEM) experiments is studied. A III‐V gas supply system controls the precursor flow and custom‐built micro electro‐mechanical system (MEMS) chips with monocrystalline Si‐cantilevers are used for temperature control, forming a micrometer‐scale metal–organic vapor phase epitaxy (µMOVPE) system. The preferentially formed crystal phases are mapped at different precursor flows and temperatures to determine optimal growth parameters for either crystal phase. To control the position and length of CPQDs, the time scale for crystal phase change is investigated. The micrometer size of the cantilevers allows temperature shifts of more than 100 °C within 0.1 s at the nanowire growth temperature, which can be much faster than the growth time for a single lattice layer. For controlling the crystal phase, the temperature change is found to be superior to precursor flow, which takes tens of seconds for the crystal phase formation to react. This µMOVPE approach may ultimately provide faster temperature control than bulk MOVPE systems and hence enable engineering sequences of CPQDs with quantum dot lengths and positions defined with atomic precision. Highlights Carbon fiber‐reinforced thermoplastic composites have the advantages of lightweight and high strength and have broad application prospects in automotive lightweighting. This study uses the Overmolding process to mold carbon fiber‐reinforced nylon 6 composite materials. By using laser surface treatment and preheating technology, the interfacial bonding performance of the composite material is emphasized. By optimizing the embedding temperature, it was observed that the in‐plane shear strength increased by 13 times to 70 MPa, and the tensile strength increased by 10 times to 44 MPa. Similarly, by adjusting the melting temperature, the in‐plane shear strength was significantly improved, and the mechanical interlock and interfacial bonding were effectively enhanced by laser surface treatment, achieving the same effect as embedding preheating. By establishing a finite element model, the in‐plane tensile and in‐plane shear at the interface were accurately simulated, and the progressive failure process of the interface layer was successfully predicted. Grinding is a commonly employed surgical technique for the partial removal of bone. However, the grinding process often generates excessive heat at the interface, leading to localized temperature raise. This can result in irreversible damage to not only the bone but also surrounding tissues, such as nerves. Existing devices rely on the continuous application of coolant to mitigate temperature rise. With the rate and location of coolant deposition being primarily empirical, the current process brings potential risks to patients. In this study, a novel grinding device capable of continuously monitoring grinding temperatures and applying coolant precisely when needed is designed. Utilizing additive manufacturing techniques, a customized grinding tool head equipped with embedded temperature sensors and coolant channels is successfully created. This innovation has enabled the development of an intelligent closed‐loop device that provides precise temperature control during surgery. The device effectively maintains the grinding surface temperature within the user‐defined range, with a latency of less than 1 s. Furthermore, the design ensures that the coolant spray outlets remain unobstructed by debris during grinding and effectively removes debris at the interface, reducing the risk of potential complications, such as bone hyperplasia. Animal coloration serves a variety of visually related functions in nature (e.g. mate choice, aposematism and camouflage) but the pigments in integumentary tissues such as skin, scales and feathers may also serve functions unrelated to the visual environment (e.g. temperature regulation, detoxification and pollutant protection). Our understanding of the significance of the non‐visual functions of animal integumentary pigments, as well as how they interact with the visually related functions to shape animal visual systems, remains limited. Furthermore, due to their important roles in shaping species interactions and mediating interactions in the environment, animal colour traits are likely to be impacted by global change (e.g. increased temperatures, altered habitat quality and quantity, increased environmental stochasticity, pollutants and novel species assemblages). Considering the effects of global change on both visual and non‐visual functions is important for understanding whether the selection is acting directly on the pigment or on coloration. Since changing the trait distributions can then lead to changes in visual systems, we advocate for studies to consider all potential functions of integumentary pigments, both visual and non‐visual functions and their interaction. Towards this goal, we first highlight common functions of pigments with a focus on non‐visual functions across animal systems. Then we synthesize our current understanding of how global change can impact pigmentation and discuss factors that can modify the interactions between climate change and pigment function. Lastly, we discuss how changes in colour traits can impact visual systems and provide an example using amphibians and their responses to climate change as a model. Phase‐change textiles can achieve temperature regulation in variable ambient environments, however, augmenting the amounts of phase‐change materials (PCMs) in textiles remains a significant challenge due to the occurrence of leakage with higher amounts. Herein, a novel approach is proposed for the fabrication of a hierarchical nanofiber textile embedded with a substantial quantity of phase‐change microcapsules (PCMC) using electrospinning. Such nanofiber textile is composed of a polyvinylidene fluoride‐hexafluoropropylene fibers (PVDF‐HFP) layer and a polyvinyl butyral fibers doped with 60 wt% of PCMC (PVB/PCMC‐60) layer. Gratifyingly, doped PCMC shows no signs of rupture and exhibits excellent cycling stability. Furthermore, the incorporation of the PCMC does not affect the spectral characteristics of the PVDF‐HFP layer while providing a substantial enthalpy of fusion (92.6 J g−1) to the PVB/PCMC‐60 layer. This serves to compensate for the deficiency in radiative cooling capacity and effectively mitigates temperature fluctuations and overheating of the textile. Outdoor test results indicate that the nanofiber textile can achieve temperature drops of 3.7 and 14.8 °C compared to textile without the PCMC (namely PVDF‐HFP/PVB) and cotton, and attains a subambient temperature drop of 6.5 °C. When decorated with plasmonic nanoparticles, pulled optical nanofibers are compatible with plasmonic techniques enabling the ability to probe microenvironments with high spatial and temporal resolution. Although the nanofibers exhibit excellent compatibility for biological samples including cells and tissues, the underlying interactions between the dielectric fiber, plasmonic nanoparticles, and the incident light have been minimally explored. It is shown that the complex coupling of optical and plasmonic properties within the nanofiber strongly influences both the surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and photothermal capabilities. Through a combination of experimental results and simulated electric field distributions and spectra it is demonstrated that, although the nanofibers may be homogeneously decorated with gold nanoparticles, the optical effects spatially differ. Specifically, the SERS performance varies periodically based on the diameter of the nanofiber, which is associated with ring resonator modes, while the photothermal effects are more homogeneous over the same diameters, highlighting differences in optoplasmonic properties at this length scale. Through understanding these effects, it may become possible to control temperatures and SERS properties to evaluate processes with micrometric spatial resolution, such as the analytes secreted during temperature‐induced death of single cells. Human body temperature is a critical physiological indicator, reflecting metabolism and temperature regulation. Biomimetic temperature sensors with high temporal and spatial resolution are highly desired to emulate human skin's temperature perception capabilities. Here, a selective filtration method is proposed to fabricate a jointless p‐n thermoelectric module, integrating p‐type and n‐type materials with minimal interfacial barriers. The structure enables rapid response, minimal signal variation, and a robust linear relationship between open circuit voltage and temperature difference, making it suitable as a biomimetic thermoreceptor for enhancing humanoid robots with intelligent sensing capabilities. A smart thermoelectric sensing system with a high temporal and spatial resolution is developed using with jointless p‐n module as the sensing element. In temporal thermal sensing, the sensing system can timely and effectively identify the heat source, with a fast response time of <0.1 s. In addition, in spatial thermal sensing, the system reliably detects thermal stimuli within discrete regions of each measuring area of <1 × 1 cm2. Band structure of a semiconducting film critically determines the charge separation and transport efficiency. In antimony selenosulfide (Sb2(S,Se)3) solar cells, the hydrothermal method has achieved control of band gap width of Sb2(S,Se)3 thin film through tuning the atomic ratio of S/Se, resulting in an efficiency breakthrough towards 10 %. However, the obtained band structure exhibits an unfavorable gradient distribution in terms of carrier transport, which seriously impedes the device efficiency improvement. To solve this problem, here we develop a strategy by intentionally regulating hydrothermal temperature to control the chemical reaction kinetics between S and Se sources with Sb source. This approach enables the control over vertical distribution of S/Se atomic ratio in Sb2(S,Se)3 films, forming a favorable band structure which is conducive to carrier transport. Meanwhile, the adjusted element distribution not only ensures the uniformity of grain structure, but also increases the Se content of the films and suppress sulfur vacancy defects. Ultimately, the device delivers a high efficiency of 10.55 %, which is among the highest reported efficiency of Sb2(S,Se)3 solar cells. This study provides an effective strategy towards manipulating the element distribution in mixed‐anion compound films prepared by solution‐based method to optimize their optical and electrical properties. The main aim of this work was to better understand how the low temperature signal from the leaves may affect the stress responses in the roots, and how the light conditions modify certain stress acclimation processes in rice plants. Rice plants grown at 27°C were exposed to low temperatures (12°C) with different light intensities, and in the case of some groups of plants, only the leaves received the cold, while the roots remained at control temperature. RNA sequencing focusing on the roots of plants grown under normal growth light conditions found 525 differentially expressed genes in different comparisons. Exposure to low temperature led to more down‐regulated than up‐regulated genes. Comparison between roots of the leaf‐stressed plants and whole cold‐treated or control plants revealed that nitrogen metabolism and nitric oxide‐related signalling, as well as the phenylpropanoid‐related processes, were specifically affected. Real‐time PCR results focusing on the COLD1 and polyamine oxidase genes, as well as metabolomics targeting hormonal changes and phenolic compounds also showed that not only cold exposure of the leaves, either alone or together with the roots, but also the light conditions may influence certain stress responses in the roots of rice plants. In order to solve the obvious nonlinear problem of temperature and complex structure of PCR instrument during nucleic acid amplification. In this paper, a new nucleic acid amplification device and temperature control algorithm were proposed. In the device, in order to improve the rise and fall rate and make the whole reaction device smaller and simpler, this paper uses a microfluidic chip for nucleic acid reaction. At the same time, in the warming and cooling module, the temperature is controlled by the semiconductor chilling plate, the air‐cooled cooling device and the heat sink structure, which greatly improves the speed of nucleic acid amplification. In the algorithm, a hybrid algorithm is designed, using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to optimize PID algorithm parameters, and then based on fuzzy theory, according to the temperature control requirements of nucleic acid amplification, fuzzy rules are analyzed and fuzzy reasoning is carried out, and then combined with PID to achieve rapid response and overshooting control of temperature control. Finally, the measurement noise is filtered by Kalman filter. Finally, COMSOL and MATLAB software are used to simulate and compare, and it is proved that the device has a certain heat dissipation effect in the process of nucleic acid amplification. Microbial carbon use efficiency (CUE) is an important variable mediating microbial effects on soil organic carbon (SOC) since it summarizes how much carbon is used for microbial growth or is respired. Yet, the role of CUE in regulating SOC storage remains debated, with evidence for both positive and negative SOC‐CUE relations. Here, we use a combination of measured data around the world and numerical simulations to explore SOC‐CUE relations accounting for temperature (T) effects on CUE. Results reveal that the sign of the CUE‐T relation controls the direction of the SOC‐CUE relations. A negative CUE‐T relation leads to a positive SOC‐CUE relation and vice versa, highlighting that CUE‐T patterns significantly affect how organic carbon is used by microbes and hence SOC‐CUE relations. Numerical results also confirm the observed negative SOC‐T relation, regardless of the CUE‐T patterns, implying that temperature plays a more dominant role than CUE in controlling SOC storage. The SOC‐CUE relation is usually negative when temperature effects are isolated, even though it can become positive when nonlinear microbial turnover is considered. These results indicate a dominant role of CUE‐T patterns in controlling the SOC‐CUE relation. Our findings help to better understand SOC and microbial responses to a warming climate. Earthquakes are frictional instabilities caused by the shear stress decrease, that is, dynamic weakening, of faults with slip and slip rate. During dynamic weakening, shear stress depends on slip, slip rate, and temperature, according to constitutive laws governing the earthquake rupture process. In the laboratory, technical limitations in measuring temperature during frictional instabilities inhibit the investigation and interpretation of shear stress evolution. Here we conduct high velocity friction experiments on calcite‐bearing simulated faults, both on bare‐rock and on gouge samples, at 20–30 MPa normal stress, 1–6 m/s slip rate and 1–20 m total slip. Seismic slip pulses are reproduced by imposing boxcar and regularized Yoffe slip rate functions. We measured, together with shear stress, slip, and slip rate, the temperature evolution on the fault by employing an innovative two‐color fiber optic pyrometer. The comparison between modeled and measured temperature reveals that for calcite‐bearing faults the heat sink caused by decarbonation reaction controls the temperature evolution. In bare‐rocks, energy is dissipated as frictional heat, and temperature increase is buffered by the heat sink of the calcite decarbonation reaction. In gouges, energy is dissipated as frictional heat and for plastic deformation processes, balanced by the heat sink caused by the decarbonation reaction enhanced by the mechanochemical effect. Our results suggest that in calcite‐bearing rocks, a common fault zone material for earthquake sources in the continental crust at shallow depth, the type of fault materials (bare‐rocks vs. gouges) controls the energy dissipation during seismic slip. The mathematical relationships between the decreasing strength and slip, slip rate, and temperature and the energy balance describing the partition of energy are of fundamental importance to model the propagation of an earthquake rupture. These relationships can be defined thanks to laboratory experiments that simulate seismic slip. Here, we tested calcite‐bearing fault rocks simulated as bare‐rock and gouges. During the experiments, temperature was monitored thanks to an innovative measuring system. Numerical models were done assuming all mechanical energy was converted into heat. By comparing all results above, we discovered that the mechanical energy in both bare‐rocks and gouges is converted to heat but limited by the occurrence of endothermic decarbonation reaction. In gouges, also an energy contribution for plastic deformation processes is required. Our work implies significant changes in the commonly accepted energy budget for earthquake propagation and show the importance of slip rate and temperature in driving together the dynamic weakening during seismic slip. Experimental evolution of microbial cells provides valuable information on evolutionary dynamics, such as mutations that contribute to fitness gain under given selection pressures. Although experimental evolution is a promising tool in evolutionary biology and bioengineering, long‐term culture experiments under multiple environmental conditions often impose an excessive workload on researchers. Therefore, the development of automated systems significantly contributes to the advancement of experimental evolutionary research. This review presents several specialized devices designed for experimental evolution studies, such as an automated system for high‐throughput culture experiments, a culture device that generate a temperature gradient, and an automated ultraviolet (UV) irradiation culture device. The present study reports the investigation of the influence of naphthalene–camphor binary solvent and the densification process on the pore structure formation of α‐alumina monoliths using the freeze‐casting technique with a freezing temperature control mechanism. Freeze‐casting technique allowed a controlled production of monoliths with high porosity (65%–70%) and distinct pore morphologies based on the adjustment of solvent composition (hypoeutectic, eutectic, and hypereutectic) and sintering time. In general, the longer the sintering time, the greater the average pore diameter (8–10 µm), the larger the grain size (∼319–596 nm), the higher the material density (∼1450–1650 kg/m3), the lower the open porosity (∼60%–49%), the higher the closed porosity (5%–18%), and the greater the compressive strength of the monoliths (hypoeutectic: 23.56 MPa; eutectic: 4.81 MPa; hypereutectic: 23.49 MPa). The study also reveals that the solvent composition directly influenced the alignment of the pore structure, as the pores of the final monolith resemble frozen solvent crystals. Hydraulic tortuosity varied from 1.30 to 1.53 for selected samples. Finally, solvent composition and sintering time proved to be important parameters that should be considered in the manufacturing process of porous ceramic structures via freeze casting. In a classical chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) process, the competing effects of chemical kinetics and reagent gas transport lead to non‐uniform depositions such that outer layers of a preform densify faster leaving the core highly porous. Currently, CVI must be performed at a sufficiently low temperature to achieve good densification quality which leads to high processing time and cost. Volumetric heating of the preform, especially through microwaves, can create temperature inversion such that the core is hotter than the outer surface and potentially, overcome the challenges associated with isothermal CVI. Direct numerical simulations (DNS) of densification under various such temperature distributions indicate that microwave heating in CVI processing can lead to better (uniform) densification of porous preforms. The role of key parameters describing the temperature distributions on the densification behavior is investigated. Strategic temporal control of the temperature distribution shows that processing times can be reduced by almost half while maintaining a good densification quality similar to that of low‐temperature isothermal processing. Temperature control in the beer manufacturing process is crucial for product quality. Given the gap between China's automation in beer production and the international level, improving the technology in this area has gradually become a core issue in optimizing domestic beer production. This study combines a proportional integral derivative controller with a fuzzy modeling strategy and incorporates a variable‐domain structure to propose a variable‐domain fuzzy proportional integral derivative controller control method. To cope with the challenges of production interaction, the study also introduces neural network technology. The experimental data indicated that the variable‐domain fuzzy proportional integral derivative controller outperforms the conventional proportional integral derivative controller and the fuzzy proportional integral differential controller in terms of overshooting, with a maximum overshoot of only 1.0, compared with 0.50 and 0.70, respectively. The variable‐domain fuzzy proportional integral differential controller exhibited a minimal overshoot of only 0.01 when the model parameter is increased by 20%. In comparison, the other methods reach overshoot values of 0.92 and 1.0. The proposed method maintained superior stability even under the influence of impulse disturbance, step disturbance, and modeling variations. These results demonstrated that the research method is significantly more stable than both the proportion integration differentiation (PID) controller and fuzzy PID controller in complex dynamic parameter environments. The proposed method involved 60 rounds of neural network control, which was successfully implemented. The temperature readings T1 and T2 remained stable within the range of 1.0%–1.02% throughout the experiments. The study demonstrates that the proposed methods have higher accuracy and less fluctuation in actual application, making them more available. Taken together, the above results show that the combination of variable‐domain fuzzy PID controller and neural network technology in beer production has achieved excellent control results. Smart windows have the potential to respond dynamically and passively to external stimuli, controlling the amount of light passing through the window. When a smart window switches from a clear to a translucent state, energy flow through the window is partially attenuated, allowing a room to cool down passively, thereby reducing the energy and fossil fuel consumption for air conditioning. The smart window demonstrated here consists of a thermoresponsive liquid consisting of Tergitol 15‐S‐7, which can dynamically and passively switch the window's transmittance when a temperature of 39 °C is reached. It is also demonstrated how the transition temperature can be lowered by adding salts. Outdoor experiments in realistic environments show that the temperature of a model house built with a thermo‐responsive window can achieve an indoor temperature of 7 °C less than a control house with an ordinary window. Temperature control for fermentation is crucial as it directly affects microorganism growth, productivity, and metabolic activity. This work proposes a modified fractional order proportional‐integral‐derivative (FOPID‐DF) controller that incorporates the system model in the control loop configuration utilizing a differential filter for precise temperature control within a narrow operating range. PID, fractional order PID (FOPID), modified fractional order PID (MFOPID), and fractional order internal model control (IMC) controllers were also designed for comparative analysis. The simulation results demonstrated that the proposed FOPID‐DF controller outperforms the other designed controllers, shown by a 22.33% reduction in integral absolute error (IAE) and a 29.06% decrease in integral square error (ISE) compared to the FOPID controller and various other improved performance indicators. Parameter variation and noise analysis highlighted the ability of the controller to maintain stability and performance under changing conditions. Elastomeric foams are composite materials comprising of a polymeric elastomer and interconnected gas‐filled pores, endowing them with exceptional compliance and the ability to undergo large, reversible deformations along with substantial volume change. These foams find extensive utility in contexts demanding compliance and compressibility, such as impact protection and cushioning, spanning a diverse range of applications. Changing temperature can dramatically alter foam stiffness, strength and deformation characteristics specifically around the material's glassy‐rubbery transition temperature (Tg). With the aim of informing new constitutive model developments for elastomeric foams, we conducted a comprehensive series of large deformation, homogeneous compression and tension tests across strain rates from 10−2 s−1 to 100 s−1 and ambient temperatures ranging from −10°C to 50°C covering an even range around the material's Tg of 20°C. To achieve precise control of ambient temperatures during mechanical testing, we constructed a custom‐designed environmental chamber for controlling the ambient temperature from −10°C to 50°C with a variation of less than 1°C. The obtained digital image correlation based stress‐strain data shows significant tension‐compression asymmetry as well as significant dependence on strain rate and ambient temperature, especially above and below the glass transition temperature. Our IRLS uses a single laser scanning from 2290.7 to 2291.1 cm−1 and a 31 m pathlength optical cell, and it simultaneously measures the five isotopologues required for calculating ∆638 and ∆828: 16O12C16O, 16O13C16O, 16O12C18O, 16O13C18O, and 18O12C18O. In addition, our IRLS can measure 16O12C17O, enabling ∆17O analysis. Results: At ~20°C and a CO2 pressure of ~2 Torr, our IRLS system achieved precisions of 0.128‰ and 0.140‰ within 20 s for abundances of the clumped isotopologues 16O13C18O and 18O12C18O, respectively, and precisions of 0.267‰, 0.245‰, and 0.128‰ for 16O12C16O, 16O13C16O, and 16O12C18O. Molecular building blocks, capable of adopting several strongly deviating conformations, are of particular interest in the development of stimuli‐responsive self‐assemblies. The pronounced structural flexibility of a short acridone‐based bridging ligand, equipped with two monodentate isoquinoline donors, is herein exploited to assemble a surprisingly diverse series of coordination‐driven Pd(II) architectures. First, it can form a highly twisted Pd2L4 helicate, transformable into the corresponding mesocate, controlled by temperature, counter anion and choice of solvent. Second, it also allows the formation of heteroleptic cages, either from a mix of ligands with Pd(II) cations or by cage‐to‐cage transformation from homoleptic assemblies. Here, the acridone‐based ligand tolerates counter ligands that carry their donors either in a diverging or converging arrangement, as it can rotate its own coordination sites by 90° and structurally adapt to both situations via shape complementarity. Third, by a near 180° rotation of only one of its arms, the ligand can adopt an S‐shape conformation and form an unprecedented C6h‐symmetric Pd6L12 saw‐toothed six‐membered ring. In uncertain environments in which resources fluctuate continuously, animals must permanently decide whether to stabilise learning and exploit what they currently believe to be their best option, or instead explore potential alternatives and learn fast from new observations. While such a trade‐off has been extensively studied in pretrained animals facing non‐stationary decision‐making tasks, it is yet unknown how they progressively tune it while learning the task structure during pretraining. Here, we compared the ability of different computational models to account for long‐term changes in the behaviour of 24 rats while they learned to choose a rewarded lever in a three‐armed bandit task across 24 days of pretraining. We found that the day‐by‐day evolution of rat performance and win‐shift tendency revealed a progressive stabilisation of the way they regulated reinforcement learning parameters. We successfully captured these behavioural adaptations using a meta‐learning model in which either the learning rate or the inverse temperature was controlled by the average reward rate. Recently, I‐III‐VI type quantum dots (QDs) have attracted considerable attention in display technology due to their large‐scale tunable emission and environmentally friendly characteristics. However, within this family, narrow‐bandwidth Cu‐based QDs have rarely been reported. Herein, the synthesis of narrow‐bandwidth blue‐emitting Cu‐Ga‐S (CGS)‐based QDs is reported by a hot‐injection method for the first time, boasting a narrow full width at half‐maximum (FWHM) of 29 nm, closely approaching that of traditional Cd‐based QDs. Through precisely controlling the temperature of nucleation stage, CGS‐based QDs showcase a representative blue emission at 475 nm, featuring the narrowest FWHM and a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 32%. Besides, the femtosecond transient fluorescence (fs‐TA) characterization indicates that the narrow‐bandwidth luminescence is attributed to band‐to‐hole recombination rather than donor‐acceptor pair (DAP) recombination. Body‐temperature responsive shape memory polymers (SMPs) attract a lot of attention with the application in biomedicine. Multiple SMPs regulate the response temperature through the proportion of their stationary and reversible phases by changing the molecular weight of the polymer or the components of the composite. Herein, a crosslinking reaction of trans‐polyisoprene (TPI) and polycaprolactone (PCL) initiated by benzoyl peroxide gave a SMP of TPI/PCL, whose shape memory property is realized by stage‐division crystallization zone. Under the fixed ratio of TPI:PCL, the crystallization performance of TPI/PCL is controlled by the crosslinking density. The response temperatures of the components in TPI/PCL are selected for the stage‐division crystallization zone, making excellent shape memory performance at corresponding response temperatures. For the further achievement in controllable response temperature within a certain range, the relationship model between crosslinking density and response temperature is established, obtaining the customizable response temperature ranging 37–55 °C. Background Methods Results Conclusions Frailty is an important predictor of health outcomes, characterized by increased vulnerability due to physiological decline. The Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) is commonly used for frailty assessment but may be influenced by rater bias. Use of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly Large Language Models (LLMs) offers a promising method for efficient and reliable frailty scoring.The study utilized seven standardized patient scenarios to evaluate the consistency and reliability of CFS scoring by OpenAI's GPT‐3.5‐turbo model. Two methods were tested: a basic prompt and an instruction‐tuned prompt incorporating CFS definition, a directive for accurate responses, and temperature control. The outputs were compared using the Mann–Whitney U test and Fleiss' Kappa for inter‐rater reliability. The outputs were compared with historic human scores of the same scenarios.The LLM's median scores were similar to human raters, with differences of no more than one point. Significant differences in score distributions were observed between the basic and instruction‐tuned prompts in five out of seven scenarios. The instruction‐tuned prompt showed high inter‐rater reliability (Fleiss' Kappa of 0.887) and produced consistent responses in all scenarios. Difficulty in scoring was noted in scenarios with less explicit information on activities of daily living (ADLs).This study demonstrates the potential of LLMs in consistently scoring clinical frailty with high reliability. It demonstrates that prompt engineering via instruction‐tuning can be a simple but effective approach for optimizing LLMs in healthcare applications. The LLM may overestimate frailty scores when less information about ADLs is provided, possibly as it is less subject to implicit assumptions and extrapolation than humans. Thermal tolerance and preference are key parameters impacting agricultural production systems. In this study, the impact of larval diet on black soldier fly thermal tolerance and preference across life‐stages and sexes was examined. Larvae were fed either a low‐protein high‐carbohydrate synthetic diet (i.e., P7C35), a high‐protein low‐carbohydrate synthetic diet (i.e., P35C7), or the Gainesville diet (i.e., C) as a control and reference. Our results demonstrate that the impacts of larval diet on black soldier fly thermal tolerance and preference could be stage and sex specific. The mean heat knockdown temperatures (HKT) ranged between 46.6 and 47.9 °C. Synthetic diets resulted in greater HKT and the difference decreased form larvae (e.g., ∼1 °C) to adults (e.g., ∼0.2 °C). The mean chill‐coma recovery time (CCRT) ranged between 8.3 and 21.6 min. Not much differences were detected between diets, but CCRT became longer from larvae to adults. The mean thermal preference ranged between 13.6 and 29.5 °C. Larvae fed synthetic diets preferred much lower temperatures than the control diet. A bimodal distribution was observed for adults regardless of sex. Differences on body mass, lipid, and protein contents were detected among diets; however, more research should be done before any conclusions can be linked to their thermal traits. These findings highlight the importance of considering the ingredients and nutritional makeup of larval diets when optimizing temperature management protocols for mass production of black soldier flies. Temperature is commonly acknowledged as one of the primary forces driving ectotherm vector populations, most notably by influencing metabolic rates and survival. Although numerous experiments have shown this for a wide variety of organisms, the vast majority has been conducted at constant temperatures and changes therein, while temperature is far from constant in nature, and includes seasonal and diurnal cycles. As fluctuating temperatures have been described to affect metabolic processes at (sub)cellular level, this calls for studies evaluating the relative importance of temperature fluctuations and the changes therein. To gain insight in the effects of temperature fluctuations on ectotherm development, survival, and sex ratio, we developed an inexpensive, easily reproducible, and open‐source, Arduino‐based temperature control system, which emulates natural sinusoidal fluctuations around the average temperature. We used this novel setup to compare the effects of constant (mean) temperatures, most commonly used in experiments, block schemes, and natural sinusoidal fluctuations as well as an extreme variant with twice its amplitude using the cosmopolitan mosquito species Culex pipiens s.l. as a study organism. Our system accurately replicated the preprogrammed temperature treatments under outdoor conditions, even more accurately than traditional methods. While no effects were detected on survival and sex ratio within the ranges of variation evaluated, development was sped up considerably by including temperature fluctuations, especially during pupation, where development under constant temperatures took almost a week (30%) longer than under natural fluctuations. Doubling the amplitude further decreased development time by 1.5 days. These results highlight the importance of including (natural) oscillations in experiments on ectotherm organisms – both aquatic and terrestrial – that use temperature as a variable. Ultimately, these results have major repercussions for downstream effects at larger scales that may be studied with applications such as ecological niche models, disease risk models, and assessing ecosystem services that rely on ectotherm organisms. To reveal the structural mechanism by which the low‐complexity domain of the fused in sarcoma protein (FUS‐LC) mediates liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS), we conducted a vacuum‐ultraviolet circular dichroism (VUV‐CD) spectroscopic study, a technique to analyze the secondary structures of proteins. The VUV‐CD measurements were performed at the BL12 VUV‐CD station at the Hiroshima Synchrotron Radiation Center (HiSOR) in Japan. CD spectra were measured between 180 and 260 nm while controlling the temperature of samples from 37°C to 5°C to obtain the LLPS of FUS‐LC. The CD spectrum obtained at 37°C exhibited a large negative peak at 195 nm and a small negative shoulder near 220 nm. The peak intensity around 195 nm decreased as the sample temperature decreased. Cross‐linked polyethylene (XLPE) cables are commonly used for constructing urban power lines due to their superior properties. Insulation defects can cause partial discharge (PD) and electrical tree, which can negatively impact the insulation performance of the cable and even lead to insulation failure. During operation, cables undergo hot and cold cycles, and the temperature of the insulation layer can affect the PD and electrical tree. An experimental platform with a needle‐plate electrode was developed to investigate this phenomenon. The platform was used to detect PD activity and electrical tree propagation in XLPE under a 50 Hz voltage at various temperatures. The results indicate that an increase in insulation temperature leads to an increase in the number of PDs and a decrease in the inception voltage. Simultaneously, it has been observed that a rise in temperature can facilitate the spread of electrical trees. To explicate the aforementioned PD result, a finite element analysis (FEA) model has been developed. Additionally, a molecular dynamics (MD) model of XLPE material was developed to clarify the phenomenon of electrical tree propagation. Temperature variation is one of the best‐known and studied factor constraining life history along the altitudinal gradients.Ectotherms such as insects are sensitive to temperature across all life stages, resulting in a wide range of adaptations in populations and species living at different elevations. In butterflies, the egg stage is particularly sensitive to temperature variation as eggs cannot move and deploy behavioural responses to overheating.Using a gradient polymerase chain reaction thermocycler to finely control temperature treatments, we tested for differences in egg heat tolerance between five closely related Coenonympha (Nymphalidae: Satyrinae) species living at different elevations.We found strong differences in egg heat tolerance ranges between lowland species (C. arcania (Linnaeus) and C. pamphilus (Linnaeus)) and two high elevation alpine species (C. gardetta (Prunner) and C. cephalidarwiniana Verity). Surprisingly, the third alpine species (C. darwiniana Staudinger) showed a heat tolerance range closer to that of the lowland species than that of alpine species.The sensitivity of eggs to overheating matched the temperature regimes recorded in the microhabitats utilised for oviposition and may explain the oviposition site selection of females observed in the wild.The narrower egg heat tolerance of some of alpine species may partly explain the position of their lower elevational limit but also raises concern about the fate of these species in the face of current climate change.Our results highlight the need to study all life stages, as well as microclimate choice for oviposition, to understand species distribution and the threats to their persistence. Critical review of temperature criteria for controlling cracking due to concrete hardening Various limits for the concrete temperature are specified for the production of concrete on site. These are primarily to ensure the workability of the fresh concrete in extreme weather conditions and to ensure proper hydration. There are also additional concrete temperature requirements for certain applications to reduce the risk of cracking or crack intensity due to hardening‐induced restraint stresses. In this context, the maximum member temperature, the maximum fresh concrete temperature or the maximum temperature gradient across the cross‐section are generally limited. However, these limits are defined independently of the ambient temperature. The extent to which these temperature limits are justified in terms of the risk of cracking due to concrete hardening is investigated using thermo‐mechanical simulations on 3D volume models. In detail, the temperature and stress evolution due to concrete hardening is simulated for different member types and ambient boundary conditions and evaluated with respect to the associated risk of cracking. The systematic evaluation of the results shows that the general limits of maximum member temperature and fresh concrete temperature are only pragmatic solutions for controlling the risk of cracking due to concrete hardening.
