Abstract Recently, natural photosensitizers, such as berberine, curcumin, riboflavin, and emodin, have received more and more attention in photodynamic therapy. Tanshinone I (TanI) is extracted from a traditional Chinese herb Danshen, and exhibits many physiological functions including antitumor. TanI is a photoactive phytocompounds, but no work was tried to investigate its potential photodynamic effect. This study evaluated the cytotoxicity induced by the photodynamic effect of TanI. The photochemical reactions of TanI were firstly investigated by laser flash photolysis. Then breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231 was chosen as a model and the photodynamic effect of TanI on cancer cell was evaluated by MTT assay and flow cytometry. The results showed that TanI could be photoexcited by its UV–Vis absorption light to produce 3TanI* which was quickly quenched by O2. MTT assay showed that the photodynamic effect of TanI resulted in more obvious inhibitive effect on cell survival and cell migration. Besides, the photodynamic effect of TanI could induce cell apoptosis and necrosis, lead to cell cycle arrest in G2, increase intracellular ROS, and decrease the cellular Δψm. It can be concluded that the photodynamic effect of TanI can obviously enhance the cytotoxicity of TanI on MDA-MB-231 cells in vitro, which indicated that TanI might serve as a natural photosensitizer.

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) leads to ferroptosis with clinical evidence like iron metabolism deregulation, increased lipid peroxitation(LPO) and the inhibition of glutathione/glutathione peroxides 4(GSH/GPX4). Ferroptosis mediated early brain injury (EBI) may occur in the 72-hour period following SAH (EBI-SAH) leads to the poor prognosis of SAH. Pharmacological targeting at ferroptosis mitigate EBI-SAH, provides a new target for future treatment and prevention of EBI-SAH through targeting at ferroptosis.

Recently, mounting evidences have suggested the therapeutic potential of Nrf2/ARE activators for treating Ischemic stroke. Moreover, several Nrf2 activators attenuate ischemic stroke-induced brain injury in several transient focal cerebral ischemia (tMCAO) in experimental animal models.

Based on the characteristics and laws of coal spontaneous combustion in Yanzhou Mining Area, this paper studies the construction of accurate prevention and control system of coal spontaneous combustion, including the research on accurate fire prevention and control of coal spontaneous combustion prediction, monitoring and early warning and advanced disposal. Through the establishment of a 15 t large-scale coal spontaneous combustion testbed to study the characteristics of coal spontaneous combustion, the research and development of infrared thermal imaging technology to determine hidden fire sources, and the development of a series of new fire-fighting materials, technologies and equipment, the three leaps of forward development of “effective management, early prediction and early control, and ahead of time prevention” of coal fire disasters has been realized, and a scientific coal spontaneous combustion technology and management system has been formed in terms of management, equipment and technology; the research results promote the three major changes of coal seam fire from “passive control to advanced prevention and control, from traditional technology to high-tech, and from decentralized practical technology to complete set of applicable technologies”, and build three lines of defense for natural fire disaster “advanced prediction, early prevention, and rapid emergency control”, so as to achieve accurate prevention and control of coal spontaneous combustion in Yanzhou Mining Area.

The development of drug resistance remains a major challenge in cancer treatment. Ferroptosis, a unique type of regulated cell death, plays a pivotal role in inhibiting tumour growth, presenting new opportunities in treating chemotherapeutic resistance. Accumulating studies indicate that epigenetic modifications by non-coding RNAs (ncRNA) can determine cancer cell vulnerability to ferroptosis. In this review, we first summarize the role of chemotherapeutic resistance in cancer growth/development. Then, we summarize the core molecular mechanisms of ferroptosis, its upstream epigenetic regulation, and its downstream effects on chemotherapeutic resistance. Finally, we review recent advances in understanding how ncRNAs regulate ferroptosis and from such modulate chemotherapeutic resistance. This review aims to enhance general understanding of the ncRNA-mediated epigenetic regulatory mechanisms which modulate ferroptosis, highlighting the ncRNA-ferroptosis axis as a key druggable target in overcoming chemotherapeutic resistance. Highlights This study investigated the effect of multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and reclaimed gypsum of varying contents on the mechanical properties and thermal stability of polypropylene (PP) composite materials. The results indicated that the incorporation of reclaimed gypsum and MWCNTs powder into PP composites could enhance the tensile strength, impact strength, and bending modulus of PP to a certain extent. The above properties of AGY/MWCNTs/PP composites were increased by 14.6%, 131.8%, and 36.2%, respectively, with the impact properties being significantly affected. Univariate analysis of variance revealed that MWCNTs powder and recycled gypsum exerted a significant impact on the mechanical properties of polypropylene composites. Moreover, the initial weight loss temperature of AGY/MWCNTs/PP demonstrated a notable increase, from 318.71 to 398.48°C, while the maximum weight loss temperature exhibited a comparable rise, from 406.85 to 461.54°C. The impact performance and thermal stability of polypropylene composite materials have been demonstrably augmented. A synergistic effect between reclaimed gypsum and multi‐walled carbon nanotubes in the reinforcement of polypropylene composites was demonstrated. An 8-week feeding experiment aimed to investigate the effects of fermented soybean residue in diets on the growth performance, serum antioxidant parameters, intestinal digestive capacity, and microbial composition of the hindgut of Furong crucian carp. The feeds were formulated to contain 0%, 6%, 12%, 18%, and 24% fermented soybean residue (CON, FSR6, FSR12, FSR18, and FSR24, respectively), respectively, to form five diets (crude protein: 33%; crude lipid: 5%). The results showed that incorporating 6% fermented soybean residue into the diet significantly increased the weight gain rate (WGR) and specific growth rate (SGR) and decreased the feed coefficient rate (p < 0.05). Through regression analysis of WGR and SGR, the optimal levels of the dietary fermented soybean residue of Furong crucian carp were determined to be 6.78% and 7.06%. Incorporating fermented soybean residue into the diet decreased the lipid content of the whole body and the levels of glucose, total cholesterol, and triglyceride in the serum of Furong crucian carp. The inclusion of 6% and 12% fermented soybean residue in the diet markedly increased the antioxidant capacity, intestinal amylase activity, and intestinal villous height of Furong crucian carp (p < 0.05). At the 6% level, fermented soybean residue significantly increased the abundance of Romboutsia and Clostridium_sensu_stricto_1 while significantly decreasing the abundance of Vibrio (p < 0.05), indicating that a 6% level of fermented soybean residue was beneficial for intestinal health. In conclusion, incorporating 6–7% fermented soybean residue into the diet of Furong crucian carp was recommended. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives There are three major subtypes of breast cancer, ER+, HER2+ and triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), namely ER−, PR−, HER2−. TNBC is the most aggressive breast cancer with poor prognosis and no target drug up to now. Actinomycin D (ActD) is a bioactive metabolite of marine bacteria that has been reported to have antitumor activity. The aim of study is to investigate whether ActD has a synergetic effect on TNBC with Doxorubicin (Dox), the major chemotherapeutic drug for TNBC, and explore the underlying mechanism. Methods TNBC cell lines HCC1937, MDA-MB-436 and nude mice were used in the study. Drug synergy determination, LDH assay, MMP assay, Hoechst 33342 staining, Flow cytometry, Flexible docking and CESTA assay were carried out. The expression of proteins associated with apoptosis was checked by Western blot and siRNA experiments were performed to investigate the role of P53 and PUMA induced by drugs. Results There was much higher apoptosis rate of cells in the ActD + Dox group than that in ActD group or Dox group. Expression of MDM2 and BCL-2 was reduced while expression of P53, PUMA and BAX were increased in the groups treated with ActD + Dox or Dox compared to the control group. Furthermore, P53 siRNA or PUMA siRNA tremendously abrogated the cell apoptosis in the groups treated by ActD, Dox and ActD + Dox. Flexible docking and CESTA showed that ActD can bind MDM2. Conclusions ActD had a synergetic effect on TNBC with Dox via P53-dependent apoptosis and it may be a new choice for treatment of TNBC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
