The resurgence of Mpox, predominantly among men who have sex with men (MSM), has prompted an analysis of its clinical manifestations and epidemiological patterns, particularly in individuals living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This retrospective study aims to delineate and compare the clinical presentations and epidemiological characteristics of Mpox among HIV-positive and HIV-negative individuals. A total of 58 confirmed Mpox cases from a dermatology department in Lisbon were analyzed, focusing on mucocutaneous manifestations, systemic symptoms, and laboratory parameters. Our findings indicate no significant difference in disease severity and presentation between HIV-positive and HIV-negative groups, suggesting that HIV status may not be a determinant of Mpox severity, but rather an indicator of increased sexual risk behaviors, a recognized risk factor for Mpox transmission. A monkeypox outbreak has been reported in several countries since early May 2022. Human monkeypox (MPX) diagnosis is based on a clinical suspicion supported by typical skin and mucosal lesions, confirmed with molecular testing. We present the results of all MPX confirmed patients presenting to our department until July 15 of 2022, describing the characteristics of the lesions at diagnosis. In total, 47 patients were included, all men and 44.7% (n = 21) were HIV-positive. Skin lesions were noted in all patients. The most commonly affected area was the genital region (63.8%), followed by the anorectal region (46.8%). Extra anogenital mucosal (oral or conjunctival mucosa) involvement was reported in three patients. Typical skin findings included erythematous papules, whitish, umbilicated papules, some with a necrotic center and an elevated whitish border. Most patients had lesions in multiple phases presenting simultaneously. Correct identification of MPX skin and mucosal lesions is crucial to avoid late diagnosis and prevent further spreading, ensuring less worldwide morbidity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• Monkeypox (MPX) is a zoonosis spreading rapidly worldwide in an unprecedented outbreak. • Human MPX infection leads to skin ulceration, increasing the risk of skin infections. • Topical antibiotics may help prevent skin infections in patients with MPX. Human monkeypox (MPX) is an endemic zoonotic disease in regions of Africa caused by the monkeypox virus, with recent outbreaks in several non-African countries. In this study, we present two cases of patients with MPX infection complicated by a deep skin infection. Both patients presented to our dermatology clinic with a clinical syndrome characteristic of MPX. The diagnosis was confirmed based on swabs of skin lesions. Both patients later returned to our clinic with erythema, pain, and edema at the site of previous papules and were diagnosed with deep skin bacterial infection. In this study we provide information on what we believe was an underreported MPX infection complication and give some advice on preventing cases of cellulitis in these patients. Men who have sex with men (MSM) are at greater risk for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Data on MSM chlamydia and gonorrhea prevalence estimates and associated risk factors are scarce. To our knowledge, this is the first study to describe the prevalence and the determinants of both chlamydia and gonorrhea infections in MSM in Portugal. We conducted a cross-sectional study using data from 1832 visits to CheckpointLX, a community-based center for screening blood-borne viruses and other STIs in MSM. Overall prevalence of chlamydia or gonorrhea in our sample was 16.05%, with 14.23% coinfection and 40.73% asymptomatic presentation among those testing positive. Anorectal infection was most common for chlamydia (67.26%), followed by urethral (24.78%) and oral (19.47%) infection. Oral infection was most common for gonorrhea (55.63%), followed by anal (51.25%) and urethral (17.50%) infection. In multivariate analyses, young age (U = 94684, p = 0.014), being foreign-born (χ2 = 11.724, p = 0.003), reporting STI symptoms (χ2 = 5.316, p = 0.021), inhaled drug use (χ2 = 4.278, p = 0.039) and having a higher number of concurrent (χ2 = 18.769, p < 0.001) or total (χ2 = 5.988, p = 0.050) sexual partners were each associated with higher rates of chlamydia or gonorrhea infection. Young and migrant MSM are a vulnerable population to STIs, as are those who use inhaled drugs and those with a higher number of concurrent or total sexual partners. Although Portugal has no guidelines on chlamydia and gonorrhea screening, our results point toward a need for greater awareness about the importance of high-frequency screening for those at increased risk (i.e., every three to six months). Competitive anxiety (CA) is an emotional reaction manifested at a somatic and/or cognitive level that regularly appears before or during sports competitions and can significantly impact an athlete's performance. Given the scarcity of validated instruments available for evaluating the competitive-anxiety trait in the Brazilian context, this study aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of the Sport Anxiety Scale-2 (SAS-2). The study sample was composed of 238 professional and amateur athletes aged 13 years or older who practice different sports modalities. The results of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) revealed adequate fit indices of the original three-factor theoretical model of the SAS-2 after including a correlation between the errors for items 6 and 12 of the somatic anxiety subscale (CFI = 0.97, TLI = 0.96, RMSEA = 0.08, WRMR = 1.04). For convergent and divergent validity, the SAS-2 subscales exhibited a positive and strong correlations with the Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2R (CSAI-2R; r = 0.52–0.82), weak to moderate correlations with the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory – only the trait scale (STAI-T; r = 0.49–0.59), weak correlations with the Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN; r = 0.29–0.41) and weak to moderate correlations with the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9; r = 0.49–0.56). The SAS-2 was also able to discriminate among participants with and without social anxiety, general trait anxiety and depressive symptoms, thus confirming its discriminant validity. According to ROC curve analysis, the cutoff point at a score of 29 indicated the optimal balance of sensitivity (0.74) and specificity (0.82). The internal consistency (α = 0.73–0.86) and the test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.73–0.80) were satisfactory. These results indicated that the Brazilian version of the SAS-2 exhibited satisfactory psychometric performance and could be used in the Brazilian context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aggressive behavior is common in childhood, which requires the use of appropriate instruments to measure them. The aim of this study was to test the measurement invariance of the Peer Aggressive Behavior Scale (PAB-S) and to investigate evidence of validity based on the association with other external variables. Participants were 237 caregivers (M = 38.5; SD = 7.02, 70.6% mothers) and 1,370 children, aged 7 to 13 years (M = 9.87, SD = 1.28, 53.1% girls), students from elementary schools in three Brazilian states. The Multigroup Confirmatory Factor Analysis demonstrated configural, scalar and metric invariance of the PAB-S. The Structural Equation Modeling indicated adequate evidence of concurrent and convergent validity. The results demonstrate adequate psychometric properties of the PAB-S, suggesting its adequacy for use in the Brazilian context. The institution of Núcleo de Apoio a Saúde da Família (NASF) at 2008 structured multiprofessional and interdisciplinary teams, in which psychologists are considered main professional. Models related to psychological actions are not defined, raising questions about implications about a work that is health caring as much as managing service. This study aims to clarify the connection between NASF's deployment process and the effective practice of psychologist inserted at the service, at two cities of Rio Grande do Norte (RN). It was used analysis of official documents and different semi-structured interviews to psychologists (3) and coordinators (2). Through a comparison analysis may be infered that the psychological practice reveals a traditional approach and reproduces practices from different institutions. The objective of this study was to quantify the milk's total bacteria l count of twenty farms in the towns of Patos de Minas and Lagoa Grande, MG. It had been used 530 samples from farms, randomly chosen, with two TBC's collections per month. These were analyzed by flow cytometry. The result was expressed in number of bacterial counts multiplied by 10³ mL. The geometric avegare of all farm's review was 24,72 x 10³ CBT/mL. According to the daily production of the properties, it was observed that there is no correlation between the daily production and cow's average with the values of TBC during the year. TBC's average in the rainy season, from October to March, was higher than the rest of the year, but did not exceed the limit of 300,000 CFU/mL. This demonstrates that the milk produced in these properties is in accordance with Normative Instruction (NI) 62, showing that it is possible to have quality standards during all months of the year. The objective of this study was to analyze the profile of CCS of dairy farms in the municipalities of Patos de Minas and Lagoa Grande and compare the values of CCS with Normative Instruction 62. Twenty farms, chosen randomly, were used with collections of CCS twice a month, totaling 533 samples located in the regions of Patos de Minas and Lagoa Grande, belonging to the state of Minas Gerais. The average results of CCS of seventeen farms (85%) was around 336 x 10³, that confirm the quality of the milk from the two regions studied, even in times of greatest challenges as in the rainy season in semi-intensive systems. Objective: To describe the cross-cultural adaptation of the Affective Reactivity Index (ARI) to Brazilian Portuguese and to investigate preliminary psychometric properties of the adapted version. Methods: Cross-cultural adaptation was based on the investigation of the theoretical and operational equivalences of the original ARI in the Brazilian context, followed by a process of translation, back-translation, and review by a committee of experts. Data analysis was carried out in a community sample of 133 schoolchildren aged 8 to 17 years to investigate the following characteristics of the ARI: 1) factor structure; 2) internal consistency; 3) construct validity comparing differential relationships between irritability and anxiety dimensions and impairment; and 4) item response theory (IRT) parameters. Results: A final Brazilian Portuguese version of the instrument was defined and is presented. Internal consistency was good, and our analysis supported the original single-factor structure of the ARI. Correlations of the ARI with distress-related anxiety dimensions were higher than with phobic-related anxiety dimensions, supporting its construct validity. In addition, higher ARI scores were associated with higher irritability-related impairment. IRT analysis underscored frequency of loss of temper as essential to inform about pathological states of irritability. Conclusion: The Brazilian Portuguese version of the ARI seems to be very similar to the original instrument in terms of conceptual, item, semantic, and operational equivalence. Riparian zones are among the most threatened natural ecosystems, being greatly affected by land use changes across the world. Working in a savanna landscape in the Central-West region of Brazil, we assessed the responses of damselfy (Odonata) communities to changes on native vegetation extent in riparian zones. We sampled damselflies around 98 streams in a continuous gradient of native vegetation loss (0 to 100%). We used the Threshold Indicator Taxa Analysis (TITAN) to test whether the damselfly community showed nonlinear responses related to native vegetation loss within buffers of 250 m radius. We collected 1245 individuals of damselflies, representing 31 species. The TITAN identified 16 species with a significant response: 11 species with negative indicators (Z −) and five as positive indicators (Z +) in relation to native vegetation loss. Six species showed evidence of nonlinear response (Z −), at sites with native vegetation loss between 40% and 60%. We also used segmented regression analysis with species richness, which showed weak evidence of a threshold located at 54% of native vegetation loss. Differently of previous studies with other taxonomic groups in forested environments, our results indicate that the variability around the threshold is higher. Under a precaution perspective and given current levels of vegetation loss around streams where the risk of losing species is higher, we reinforce the importance of appropriate landscape management strategies. In order to effectively conserve biodiversity in aquatic-and-terrestrial environments, the native vegetation loss within pastures and agriculture landscapes, should be above the “zone of increasing risk of impact” level. According to the current Brazilian Forest Act, riparian forest of at least 30 m wide must be preserved along both sides of each watercourse. In our study 30 m vegetation wide represents only 10% of the 250 m buffer area. It implies that the current Brazilian Forest Act does not preserve the Cerrado's riparian vegetation and its associated aquatic biodiversity, since the amount of native vegetation loss is below the “zone of increasing risk of impact” we detected for damselflies in evaluated landscapes.
