Background: Teratomas are rare types of germ cell neoplasms composed of various differentiated or undifferentiated tissues. Case Description: A 25-week-old female control FVB /n mouse in a 4-week toxicity study presented abdominal distension and poor body condition. It was euthanized, and the necropsy examination revealed a large mass connected to the tip of the right uterine horn, occupying the entire abdominal cavity. Microscopically, this mass showed areas of epidermal differentiation, with laminated keratin and sebaceous glands, differentiation into respiratory and digestive epithelium, cartilage, bone, and extensive areas of differentiation into the nervous tissue, being classified as an ovarian teratoma. Conclusion: As far as authors know, the occurrence of ovarian teratomas in the FVB/n mouse strain has never been previously described. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introdução:A síndrome respiratória aguda grave coronavírus 2 além de causar a doença aguda de COVID-19, após a recuperação pode deixar sintomas persistentes, ou seja, a síndrome pós-COVID-19 (PCS), também conhecida como longo COVID-19, comumente usados para descrever sintomas crônicos da infecção por SARS-CoV-2. A PCS é definida como a persistência dos sintomas por mais de 12 semanas após a infecção pelo vírus.Objetivo:Tem-se como objetivo deste estudo identificar os principais sintomas crônicos de longo prazo do COVID-19 que persistem por meses após a infecção. Além disso, busca-se entender a semelhança da PCS com a ME/CFS.Metodologia:Trata-se de um estudo de Scoping Review, de acordo com a metodologia de revisão proposto pelo Instituto Joanna Briggs. A amostra final totalizou em 08 estudos selecionados. A revisão de escopo foi realizada a partir das seguintes questões de pesquisa: Quais são os principais sintomas crônicos adquiridos após infecção por COVID-19? Está realmente associado com a síndrome da fadiga crônica/encefalomielite miálgica?Resultados:Identificaram-se que não há uma diferença significativa nas características clínicas/inflamatórias entre a PCS e ME/CFS. Entre os principais sintomas incluem fadiga, mal-estar pós-esforço, comprometimento cognitivo, distúrbios do sono, tontura, dor e alterações de humor em ambos os grupos. Evidenciou-se também que a duração média dos sintomas após COVID-19 foi maior na presença de outras comorbidades prévia à infecção. São mais frequentes em mulheres do que em homens. Conclusão:Destarte, esta revisão de escopo respondeu ao longo da pesquisa as questões norteadoras supracitadas. A persistência de sintomas de longo prazo em alguns pacientes com COVID-19 abriu uma nova linha de pesquisa sobre os mecanismos subjacentes à ME/CFS. Esta revisão avalia a qualidade dos estudos de maneira minuciosa e fornece informações valiosas sobre as evidências.

Background: People with Huntington's disease (HD) have been observed to have lower rates of cancers. Objective: To investigate the relationship between age of onset of HD, CAG repeat length, and cancer diagnosis. Methods: Data were obtained from the European Huntington's disease network REGISTRY study for 6540 subjects. Population cancer incidence was ascertained from the GLOBOCAN database to obtain standardised incidence ratios of cancers in the REGISTRY subjects. Results: 173/6528 HD REGISTRY subjects had had a cancer diagnosis. The age-standardised incidence rate of all cancers in the REGISTRY HD population was 0.26 (CI 0.22-0.30). Individual cancers showed a lower age-standardised incidence rate compared with the control population with prostate and colorectal cancers showing the lowest rates. There was no effect of CAG length on the likelihood of cancer, but a cancer diagnosis within the last year was associated with a greatly increased rate of HD onset (Hazard Ratio 18.94, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Cancer is less common than expected in the HD population, confirming previous reports. However, this does not appear to be related to CAG length in HTT. A recent diagnosis of cancer increases the risk of HD onset at any age, likely due to increased investigation following a cancer diagnosis.

Abstract Background Mutations in the genes PRKN and LRRK2 are the most frequent known genetic lesions among Parkinson's disease patients. We have previously reported that in the Portuguese population the LRRK2 c.6055G > A; p.G2019S mutation has one of the highest frequencies in Europe. Methods Here, we follow up on those results, screening not only LRRK2, but also PRKN, SNCA and PINK1 in a cohort of early-onset and late-onset familial Portuguese Parkinson disease patients. This series comprises 66 patients selected from a consecutive series of 132 patients. This selection was made in order to include only early onset patients (age at onset below 50 years) or late-onset patients with a positive family history (at least one affected relative). All genes were sequenced bi-directionally, and, additionally, SNCA, PRKN and PINK1 were subjected to gene dosage analysis. Results We found mutations both in LRRK2 and PRKN, while the remaining genes yielded no mutations. Seven of the studied patients showed pathogenic mutations, in homozygosity or compound heterozygosity for PRKN, and heterozygosity for LRRK2. Conclusion Mutations are common in Portuguese patients with Parkinson's disease, and these results clearly have implications not only for the genetic diagnosis, but also for the genetic counseling of these patients.

- Abstract
Background: The frequency of late-onset Huntington's disease (>59 years) is assumed to be low and the clinical course milder. However, previous literature on late-onset disease is scarce and inconclusive. Objective: Our aim is to study clinical characteristics of late-onset compared to common-onset HD patients in a large cohort of HD patients from the Registry database. Methods: Participants with late- and common-onset (30–50 years)were compared for first clinical symptoms, disease progression, CAG repeat size and family history. Participants with a missing CAG repeat size, a repeat size of ≤35 or a UHDRS motor score of ≤5 were excluded. Results: Of 6007 eligible participants, 687 had late-onset (11.4%) and 3216 (53.5%) common-onset HD. Late-onset (n = 577) had significantly more gait and balance problems as first symptom compared to common-onset (n = 2408) (P <.001). Overall motor and cognitive performance (P <.001) were worse, however only disease motor progression was slower (coefficient, −0.58; SE 0.16; P <.001) compared to the common-onset group. Repeat size was significantly lower in the late-onset (n = 40.8; SD 1.6) compared to common-onset (n = 44.4; SD 2.8) (P <.001). Fewer late-onset patients (n = 451) had a positive family history compared to common-onset (n = 2940) (P <.001). Conclusions: Late-onset patients present more frequently with gait and balance problems as first symptom, and disease progression is not milder compared to common-onset HD patients apart from motor progression. The family history is likely to be negative, which might make diagnosing HD more difficult in this population. However, the balance and gait problems might be helpful in diagnosing HD in elderly patients.

Numa altura em que os consumidores se encontram cada vez mais atentos ao desenvolvimento de novos produtos, surge a necessidade das empresas inovarem e tentarem ganhar vantagem competitiva em relação aos seus concorrentes de mercado. Desta forma, e, sabendo que a cerveja sem álcool para alguns consumidores, se encontra apenas direcionada para certas ocasiões, como em casos de gravidez, condução, doença, entre outros, e, devido às suas características organoléticas, nomeadamente o seu sabor doce e a mosto, surge a necessidade de encontrar soluções que tornem esta cerveja mais atrativa para os consumidores. Como tal, este trabalho de dissertação, desenvolvido na Sociedade Central de Cervejas e Bebidas, pretendeu avaliar um novo processo de produção de cervejas sem álcool, nomeadamente, recorrendo à adição de uma enzima, glucose oxidase. Esta enzima converte a glucose em ácido glucónico, diminuindo a doçura e aumentando a acidez, o que promove uma melhoria das suas características organoléticas, sem que seja necessário recorrer à adição de ácidos, como é feito atualmente. Assim, foram realizados vários ensaios em laboratório, simulando diversas condições de produção, de forma a avaliar o comportamento desta enzima. Os objetivos propostos para a fase laboratorial seriam, atingir o pH previsto inicialmente de X a uma temperatura de Y ºC e com condições de arejamento normais, ou seja, aquelas que são utilizadas em produção, com uma posterior inativação da enzima por pasteurização. Apesar dos inúmeros constrangimentos encontrados durante a realização dos ensaios, os objetivos propostos inicialmente foram cumpridos. No entanto, a passagem deste novo processo para uma fase industrial, não foi possível, uma vez que as condições de pasteurização utilizadas em produção não são suficientes para uma inativação enzimática.

This paper presents an experimental study on the evolution of carrot properties along convective drying by hot air at different temperatures (50ºC, 60ºC and 70ºC). The thermo-physical properties calculated were: specific heat, thermal conductivity, diffusivity, enthalpy, heat and mass transfer coefficients. Furthermore, the data of drying kinetics were treated and adjusted according to the three empirical models: Page, Henderson & Pabis and Logarithmic. The sorption isotherms were also determined and fitted using the GAB model. The results showed that, generally, the thermo-physical properties presented a decline during the drying process, and the decrease was faster for the temperature of 70ºC. It was possible to verify that the Page model presented the best prediction ability for the representation of kinetics of the drying process. The GAB model used to fit the sorption isotherms showed a good prediction capacity and, at a given water activity, despite some variations, the amount of water sorbed increased with the decrease of drying temperature.

António Tomás Pires (n. 1850 - m. 1913), elvense, foi um dos mais notáveis etnógrafos portugueses da nossa história. Incansável, durante trinta anos, procedeu à recolha de costumes, tradições, superstições, contos populares, etc., por todo o Alentejo, e principalmente no concelho de Elvas. A sua pesquisa foi publicada em jornais e revistas regionais e nacionais, e deu origem a várias edições monográficas como o “Cancioneiro Popular Político” ou os “Cantos Populares Portugueses”. É este importante legado que no ano letivo de 2015/2016 será trabalhado e divulgado pelo Serviço Educativo da Biblioteca Municipal de Elvas junto à comunidade local e escolar, através de um conjunto coordenado de ações. Este projeto tem por objectivo divulgar e dar a conhecer, este notável elvense e a sua obra, a partilha da tradição oral por ele compilada e formar contadores que a corporizem junto à população local.A realização deste projeto irá alicerçar-se nos seguintes momentos: Enquadramento histórico e percurso do etnógrafo elvense António Tomás Pires no âmbito da recolha efectuada por este da tradição oral; Importância deste Património Imaterial para uma cidade como Elvas, elevada há três anos a Património da Humanidade, tendo em conta que um dos principais vectores que norteia a sua política patrimonial no passado, presente e futuro é a salvaguarda e dinamização do seu Património Cultural.Como dinamizar este legado junto à comunidade local e escolar.O primeiro momento é dedicado a António Tomás Pires, a quem o povo na época chamava o “Antoninho das Cantigas” devido ao incansável esforço e dedicação com que este investigador realizava a sua recolha com “…a paciência beneditina de andar pelos serões, pelas fontes e pelos soalheiros a pedir às raparigas que lhe ditassem trovas de bater às portas das velhas para estas lhe ensinarem contos da carochinha,…” como citava Leite Vasconcelos, numa época em que tais métodos eram encarados com desdém e desconfiança por muitos. Sem dúvida, uma das mais importantes figuras na história da recolha da tradição oral portuguesa, António Tomás Pires, ocupa um lugar entre os grandes vultos que se dedicaram entre 1875 e 1915 a esta inventariação, classificação e compilação dos contos populares portugueses. O segundo momento irá contextualizar a importância deste Património Imaterial no desenvolvimento e crescimento cultural de uma comunidade local e escolar que após a classificação a 30 de Junho de 2012 a Património Mundial, se encontra predisposta e sedenta de aprender e apreender a sua História. O valor da contribuição de António Tomás Pires a quem o precedeu foi reconhecido e deverá ser relembrado no presente junto à comunidade local, e perpetuado pelas gerações vindouras. O terceiro momento visa assinalar os objectivos e a metodologia do projeto com que o Serviço Educativo da Biblioteca Municipal de Elvas irá dinamizar o legado de António Tomás Pires junto à comunidade local e escolar. Este projeto irá arrancar com a abertura do ano lectivo de 2015/2016 e visa divulgar e dar a conhecer, este notável elvense e a sua obra, a partilha da tradição oral por ele compilada e formar contadores que a corporizem junto à população local. Para a sua concretização teremos vários parceiros: a comunidade escolar, as associações culturais locais, a Universidade Sénior, o Projeto Memóriamedia, o Centro de Recursos da Tradição Oral e Património Imaterial do Concelho de Évora, o Museu nacional de Arqueologia, entre outros. Como Mário F. Lages sintetiza em relação à recolha efectuada por António Tomás Pires: “…destes contos. Na sua beleza singela, colocam-nos na escola simbólica do passado, uma escola que necessita de ser redescoberta e frequentada por todos, crianças e adultos…”, e é partindo desta premissa que se pretende desenvolver este projeto. O conto e o contador, o contador e o conto, e o ouvinte, serão aspectos cruciais que serão trabalhados juntamente com a divulgação da obra de António Tomás Pires.Semear, contar, partilhar de modo a materializar a memória de um povo, dar vida à Palavra. Recontar o Conto Tradicional para garantir a sua sobrevivência.

25. Variação da composição nutricional e propriedades de cenouras durante a secagem

Este trabalho teve como objetivo a determinação das propriedades da cenoura (Daucus carota L.), da variedade Nantes, antes, durante e após a secagem por convecção a três temperaturas diferentes (50, 60 e 70 ºC).De forma a verificar as alterações ao nível de diferentes propriedades, tais como: propriedades químicas (humidade, proteínas, fibras, cinzas, açúcares e 'aw') propriedades físicas (textura, cor, porosidade e densidade) e propriedades termofísicas (calor específico, condutividade térmica, difusividade e entalpia). Dos resultados obtidos foi possível concluir que a temperatura de secagem de 70 º C foi a que mais afetou as propriedades químicas analisadas, tais como a humidade, proteínas e açúcares redutores, onde estes sofreram uma diminuição ao longo das secagens. A 'aw' também apresentou uma diminuição ao longo das secagens, onde apresentou um menor valor na secagem a 70 ºC, tendo passado de 0,97 para 0,69, enquanto as temperaturas de 50 ºC e 60 ºC apresentaram um valor final igual, de 0,74. No que diz respeito às propriedades físicas, verificou-se que em relação à textura registaram-se evoluções semelhantes em termos de dureza, mastigabilidade e gomosidade, na medida em que sofreram uma acentuada diminuição nas primeiras horas de secagem, e a temperatura de 70 ºC foi a que mais afetou estas propriedades. No caso da cor a temperatura de 60 ºC foi a que provocou uma maior diferença de cor, a qual ao longo da secagem esta foi aumentando. A porosidade sofreu um aumento com as secagens devido à diminuição da humidade, no entanto a temperatura de 70 ºC foi a que obteve uma menor porosidade, e as temperaturas de 50 ºC e 60 ºC apresentaram valores de porosidade semelhantes. As propriedades termofísicas registaram uma diminuição ao longo da secagem, onde o calor específico sofreu uma maior diminuição com a temperatura de 70 ºC, passando de 3,90 kJ/kg.K para 1,99 kJ/kg.K. A condutividade térmica também sofreu uma maior diminuição com a temperatura de 70 ºC, diminuindo de 0,5243 W/m.K para 0,2782 W/m.K. A difusividade foi de igual forma afetada pela temperatura de 70 ºC, tendo diminuído de 1,50×10-7 m2/s para 1,06×10-7 m2/s. No caso da entalpia, esta sofreu uma maior diminuição com a temperatura de 50 ºC, passando de 233 J/kg para 96,7 J/kg. As isotérmicas de sorção foram ajustadas ao modelo de GAB, onde se verificou que apesar de algumas oscilações a quantidade de água sorvida a uma determinada aw, aumentou com a diminuição da temperatura.Os dados da cinética de secagem foram tratados e ajustados de acordo com três modelos: Page, Henderson & Pabis e Logarítmico, tendo-se verificado que o modelo de Page foi o que mostrou melhor descrever os processos em estudo, enquanto o pior modelo para descrever a cinética de secagem foi o Logarítmico. ABSTRACT: his study aimed to determine the properties of Nantes carrots (Daucus carota L.), before, during and after the process of drying by convection, at three different temperatures (50, 60 e 70 ºC), in order to verify the variations of the different properties such as chemical properties (moisture, protein, fiber, ash, sugars and aw), physical properties (texture, color, density and porosity) and thermo-physical properties (specific heat, thermal conductivity, diffusivity and enthalpy). From the gathered data it was possible to conclude that the drying temperature of 70 ºC was the one that most affected the chemical properties analyzed, such as moisture, protein and reduced sugars. Over the drying process, the 'aw' showed a decreasing in value, presenting a lower value while drying at 70 ºC, from 0,97 to 0,69, and at the temperatures of 50 ºC and 60 ºC showed a final value of 0,74. Concerning the physical properties, it was found that regarding the texture, similar changes were recorded in terms of hardness, gumminess and chewiness, during the first hours of drying when there was a sharp decrease in these properties, being the temperature of 70 ºC the one that most affected these properties. Regarding the color, the drying temperature of 60 ºC was the one that induced more change in color, increasing throughout de drying process. The porosity increased with the drying due to the decrease in humidity. However the temperature of 70 ºC was the one that showed less porosity, while the temperatures of 50 ºC and 60 ºC presented similar values. The thermo-physical properties experienced a decline during the drying process, where the specific heat has suffered a greater decrease with the temperature of 70 ºC, from 3,90 kJ/kg.K to 1,99 kJ/kg.K. The thermal conductivity also experienced agreater decrease with the temperature of 70 °C, decreasing from 0,5243 W/m.K to 0,2782 W/m.K. The diffusivity wase qually affected by the temperature of 70 ºC, which decreased from 1,50×10-7 m2/s to1,06×10-7 m2/s. In the case of the enthalpy, it showed a greater decrease with the temperature of 50 ºC, going from 233 J/kg to 96,7 J/kg. The sorption isotherms were fitted to the GAB model where it was found that, despite some variations, the amount of water sorbed at a given 'aw' increased with the decrease in temperature. The data of drying kinetics were treated and adjusted according to three models: Page, Henderson & Pabis and logarithmic. It was possible to verify that the Page model was the onet hat best described the process at study, and the worst model to describe the drying kinetics was the logarithmic.

O presente Trabalho de Investigação Aplicada encontra-se subordinado ao tema “O Conceito da Logística Inversa para a Gestão de Resíduos numa U/E/O do Exército Português – O Caso da Academia Militar”. Ao longo dos últimos anos o ser humano é responsável por um crescente consumo de recursos naturais não renováveis, que consequentemente provoca o aumento da produção de resíduos, colocando em causa a sustentabilidade das gerações vindouras. Torna-se imperativo a utilização de novas medidas para a minimização da perda de matérias-primas, nomeadamente o aparecimento de fluxos físicos inversos na cadeia de abastecimento. Assim, esta investigação visa aferir a correta aplicabilidade da logística inversa, por forma a alcançar a eficiência na gestão de resíduos numa Unidade/Estabelecimento/Órgão do Exército Português, particularmente na Academia Militar. A metodologia utilizada durante a elaboração do trabalho para a recolha de informação teve por base a pesquisa bibliográfica, a análise documental, as observações diretas e participantes, bem como os inquéritos por entrevista. Os resultados obtidos nesta investigação demonstram que a logística inversa é aplicada com alguns entraves devido a um processo de abate moroso e armazenamento provisório dos resíduos em locais não apropriados durante um período prolongado, correndo o risco de perda de valor. Conclui-se que é necessário tornar o processo de abate mais célere, desenvolver áreas específicas para a triagem e armazenamento dos resíduos na Academia Militar e racionalizar o transporte. Abstract This work lies under the theme “The Concept of Reverse Logistics for Waste Management in a U/E/O - The Case of the Military Academy”. Over the past few years the human being has been responsible for an increasing consumption of non-renewable natural resources, which in turn causes increased production of waste, jeopardizing the sustainability of future generations. It becomes imperative to use new measures to minimize the loss of raw materials, namely the appearance of physical flows in the reverse supply chain. Thus, this research aims to assess the correct applicability of reverse logistics in order to achieve efficiency in waste management within the Unit / Establishment / Organ of the Portuguese Army, particularly at the Military Academy. The methodology used to collect information during this work was based on bibliographic research, document analysis, direct and participants observations, as well as interview surveys. The present results demonstrate that reverse logistics is applied with some obstacles due to a lengthy process of slaughter and storage of waste not suitable for a long period, the risk of loss of value locations. I tis concluded that it is necessary to make the process faster slaughter, develop specific areas for sorting and storage of waste at the Military Academy and streamline transport.

A Perturbação do Espectro do Autismo é uma patologia que atinge a maioria das áreas do desenvolvimento normal de uma criança. É uma doença crónica que exige um acompanhamento ao longo da vida. A Academia Americana de Pediatria recomenda que a intervenção seja iniciada o mais precoce possível, multidisciplinar e de carácter intensivo. Neste sentido, o Centro de Desenvolvimento Infantil LógicaMentes criou um Programa Integrado Para o Autismo (PIPA). Trata-se de um Programa de carácter intensivo e multidisciplinar dirigido a crianças e a famílias. Objectivo: Apresentação do Programa PIPA e avaliação do seu impacto na intervenção do Autismo. Metodologia: Terapia intensiva através do Programa PIPA – programa multidisciplinar com a participação de quatro especialidades: Pediatria do Neurodesenvolvimento, Psicologia, Terapia da Fala e Psicomotricidade. O PIPA inclui intervenção directa com a criança, a família e a escola. Apresenta-se uma revisão de 21 casos que frequentaram o Programa PIPA, com resultados estatísticos de dois momentos distintos de avaliação (antes e após intervenção). Resultados: Após sete anos de aplicação, os resultados do Programa PIPA têm sido muito positivos, quer ao nível da promoção das competências pessoais de cada criança, quer ao nível da sua melhor integração familiar, educacional e social. Os resultados revelam uma diferença estatisticamente significativa no perfil cognitivo e linguístico das crianças e uma diminuição da frequência do diagnóstico da perturbação autista. Conclusão: Os resultados realçam a eficácia do Programa PIPA e da terapia de carácter intensivo na intervenção com crianças com autismo e no suporte psicológico às suas famílias. The Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects many areas of children’s development. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that intervention should start as early as possible and should be multidisciplinary and intensive in nature.The Child Development Clinic LógicaMentes has created the Autism Integrated Program (PIPA) for intervention in ASD - a multidisciplinary and intensive Program for children and their families.Purpose: To evaluate the effect of multidisciplinary intensive therapies in intervention of autism, through the implementation of the Autism Integrated Program (PIPA). Methodology: Intensive therapy with the PIPA Program. This is a multidisciplinary intervention consisting of four specialized areas Neurodevelomental Pediatrics, Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy and Psychomotor Therapy. It includes direct intervention with the child, family and school. We reviewed 21 cases, all diagnosed with ASD (DSM-IV-TR criteria), who participated in the PIPA program. The results were analyzed statistically in two different assessment moments (before and after intervention). Results: After seven years of implementation, the results of PIPA Program have been very positive in the promotion of each child’s personal skills, and in family, educational and social integration. The results show statistically significant changes in linguistic and cognitive profile of these children and a decrease in the diagnosis of autistic disorder. Conclusion: The results highlight the efficacy of PIPA program and its intensive therapy nature in the intervention of autistic children and in the psychological support of their families.

O uso de Cateter Venoso Central é apontado como um importante fator de risco para infeção, aumentando a mortalidade e morbilidade, bem como o período de internamento e os custos associados. Objetivo: Identificar os fatores de risco para a infeção associados à utilização de Cateter Venoso Central em doentes adultos hospitalizados. Foram selecionados 30 artigos através dos descritores, Cateteres Venosos Centrais, Infeções Relacionadas com Cateter e Fatores de Risco por consulta eletrónica nas bases de dados PubMed, Lilacs e Scielo. Foram definidos como critérios de inclusão, estudos publicados entre 2007 e 2013, realizados em adultos hospitalizados com utilização de Cateter Venoso Central, estarem publicados em língua portuguesa e em revistas com indexação ISI. Obteve-se uma total de 8 publicações tendo rejeitado 22 por não cumprirem os critérios de inclusão. Do total dos 8 estudos analisados, 62,5% referiram como fatores de risco para a infecção do Cateter Venoso Central, o local de inserção, tendo sido a veia femoral e a jugular referidas em 37% dos estudos como os locais mais prevalentes. O tempo de permanência do Cateter foi outro dos factores de risco encontrado em 75% dos estudos, sendo que a grande maioria verificou correlação positiva do risco de infeção do Cateter com o número de dias de permanência. O maior número de lúmenes do Cateter foi referido também como fator de risco em 50% dos estudos e em igual proporção a falta de cuidados na manutenção do Cateter, devido a uma má manipulação do mesmo aumentando o risco de infeção. Igualmente a situação clínica do doente constituiu um fator de risco em 50% dos estudos, sendo que a gravidade da história clínica elevou o risco de infeção. O aumento do tempo de internamento foi outro fator de risco referido em 12,5% dos estudos. Tendo em conta o elevado número de fatores de risco associados às infecções do Cateter Venoso Central, torna-se fundamental ter conhecimento dos mesmos com vista à sua redução, pois é necessária a implementação de medidas de controlo de infeção por parte dos profissionais de saúde, quer no momento da sua inserção quer no seu manuseamento de forma a prevenir esta infeção.

A presente comunicação tem por objectivo apresentar a vivência por projectos realizada durante um ano lectivo em contexto de Jardim-de-infância. O trabalho foi desenvolvido pelos educadores de infância de cinco salas dum Jardim-de-infância da rede pública, em colaboração com os educadores-estagiários e a professora de prática pedagógica que os acompanhava. Apesar de toda a equipa estar consciente do trabalho que envolvia a metodologia de projecto observam-se algumas necessidades, na estruturação da acção educativa decorrentes da emergência dos projectos. Assim, um dos principais desafios encontrado foi o de encetar diálogo com algumas gramáticas pedagógicas sustentadoras de modos de acção centrados na identificação de problemas, onde a criança fosse um elemento activo, no levantamento das questões de pesquisa, planificação da acção a desenvolver e na avaliação dos percursos efectuados

Ce travail s’inscrit dans la discussion interculturelle actuelle dont le souci est d’offrir une école égalitaire pour tous, en intégrant notamment la population issue de la migration. De nombreuses études prétendent qu’il y aurait un certain déterminisme social dès la scolarité obligatoire, n’offrant pas les mêmes chances à tous les élèves d’après leurs origines. Cela aurait pour conséquence la sous- représentation des élèves d’origine étrangère au secondaire II. Nous avons souhaité vérifier cela en nous intéressant aux gymnasiens de « deuxième génération », c’est-à-dire, selon la définition la plus simplifiée, ceux dont les parents, étrangers, se sont installés en Suisse et qui ont effectué la plus grande partie de leur scolarité en Suisse. A l’aide d’un questionnaire soumis à plusieurs classes d’un gymnase vaudois, nous avons tenté de voir si des différences flagrantes apparaissaient entre ces élèves issus de l’immigration et les élèves d’origine suisse, et si tel était le cas, d’y apporter des explications. Cette enquête, qui n’a pour seule ambition que de faire ressortir des tendances, cherche à repérer certaines spécificités propres à cette population d’élèves, notamment en s’appuyant sur la relation que leurs parents entretiennent avec leurs études gymnasiales. Les résultats ont permis de réfuter la majorité des idées reçues autour de la question de l’immigration et ont montré qu’un effort restait à faire en direction de l’égalité des chances dans le domaine scolaire.

O diagnóstico diferencial do Mycobacterium bovisé importante no controlo da transmissão para a população humana e também no tratamento da doença, visto que o M. bovisé naturalmente resistente à pirazinamida. Foram analisados onze isolados clínicos do Hospital Fernando Fonseca, com um padrão de Spoligotypeindicativo de M. bovispela ausência dos espaçadores 39-43, mas que também contaram com a ausência do espaçador 38. Para a identificação destas estirpes procedeu-se à análise fenotípica da resistência à pirazinamida e estudo dos polimorfismos dos genes pncAe gyrB. Pelo estudo do polimorfismo do pncA, verificámos que as estirpes analisadas não continham a mutação específica do M. bovis. Em relação aos polimorfismos do gyrB, utilizando o kitGenoType® MTBC, as estirpes foram identificadas como pertencentes ao grupo M. tuberculosis, M. africanumsubtipo II e M. canetti. O presente trabalho de investigação permitiu-nos definir novos genótipos sobre os quais deverão apoiar-se estudos bacteriológicos futuros. Entre estes foi desde já considerado importante o estudo do polimorfismo do gene pncA,devido às implicações de utilidade prática e imediata para o clínico. Avaliar a transmissão e definir grupos de risco é um objectivo para o qual se considera importante o apoio dos serviços veterinários.

O presente estudo populacional, que decorreu entre 1999 e 2003, foi baseado na utilização do Spoligotypingna genotipagem de 452 isolados do complexo Mycobacterium tuberculosisde doentes com tuberculose internados no Hospital Fernando Fonseca. Spoligotypesforam identificados como shared types(ST) recorrendo a uma base de dados internacional. Onze ST raros, não identificados na base de dados, acomodaram 8,4% dos isolados. Aliás, particular a Portugal poderá ser a predominância de ST identificados na base de dados mas não previamente classificados como famílias genotípicas, tais como o ST244, ST150 e ST389, representando 13,3 % do total. A identificação de isolados clínicos de M. africanumde genótipo Afri1 e de M. tuberculosisde genótipo CAS1 poderá confirmar a importação de isolados de origem africana e asiática. M. tuberculosisda família Beijing foi pela primeira vez por nós assinalado a partir de 1999. Desde então, o número de isolados provenientes do hospital passou de um para cinco, anualmente, representando actualmente 2,2%, o que a coloca em décimo lugar em prevalência. M. tuberculosisBeijing poderá corresponder a um problema emergente em Portugal devido à recente imigração proveniente da Europa Oriental e da Ásia. Outros genótipos, ST150 e ST389, mostraram um incremento, cujo significado não é claro. No entanto, as frequências relativas das famílias predominantes LAM, T1 e Haarlem mantiveram-se relativamente estáveis. O presente estudo confirma a variabilidade genética em Portugal dos isolados do complexo M. tuberculosis. Estes estudos poderão contribuir para a definição de prioridades nos programas nacionais de luta contra a tuberculose.

This paper presents an experimental study on the evolution of carrot properties along convective drying by hot air at different temperatures (50°C, 60°C and 70°C). The thermo-physical properties calculated were: specific heat, thermal conductivity, diffusivity, enthalpy, heat and mass transfer coefficients. Furthermore, the data of drying kinetics were treated and adjusted according to the three empirical models: Page, Henderson & Pabis and Logarithmic. The sorption isotherms were also determined and fitted using the GAB model. The results showed that, generally, the thermo-physical properties presented a decline during the drying process, and the decrease was faster for the temperature of 70°C. It was possible to verify that the Page model presented the best prediction ability for the representation of kinetics of the drying process. The GAB model used to fit the sorption isotherms showed a good prediction capacity and, at a given water activity, despite some variations, the amount of water sorbed increased with the decrease of drying temperature. Mestrado em Engenharia Alimentat - Processamento de Alimentos - Instituto Superior de Agronomia It was intended to analyse the entire production process from the arrival of the vinegar factory production, through acetous fermentation, and most actively in the advanced stages to the storage of the finished vinegar. In attempt of the continuous improvement of the vinegars quality, there were investigated the factors that are capable to reduce the quality of this product, ended up in imperfections, like the presence of oxygen and high temperature, in different stages of the global productive process. For this, it was proceeded to a first identification and quantification of defects in stored samples, and further studies which tested the effect of this potential derogatory factors, such as temperature and oxygen, essentially in white wine vinegar, and red wine. The experiments included macroscopic and microscopic observation of bottled vinegars, as well as physico-chemical and microbiological analyses, mostly with regard to the activity of acetic bacteria. The results appearances that this derogatory factors (oxygen and high temperature) are difficult to control. Conclusive results revealed that the vinegar was spoil if exposed to oxygen and high temperatures

Background: Handicap is a patient-centered measure of health status that encompasses the impact of social and physical environment on daily living, having been assessed in advanced and late-stage Parkinson's Disease (PD)., Objective: To characterize the handicap of a broader sample of patients., Methods: A cross-sectional study of 405 PD patients during the MDS-UPDRS Portuguese validation study, using the MDS-UPDRS, Unified Dyskinesias Rating Scale, Nonmotor symptoms questionnaire, PDQ-8 and EQ-5D-3L. Handicap was measured using the London Handicap Scale (LHS)., Results: Mean age was 64.42 (±10.3) years, mean disease duration 11.30 (±6.5) years and median HY 2 (IQR, 2-3). Mean LHS was 0.652 (±0.204); "Mobility," "Occupation" and "Physical Independence" were the most affected domains. LHS was significantly worse in patients with longer disease duration, older age and increased disability. In contrast, PDQ-8 did not differentiate age groups. Handicap was significantly correlated with disease duration ( r = -0.35), nonmotor experiences of daily living (EDL) (MDS-UPDRS-I) ( r = -0.51), motor EDL (MDS-UPDRS-II) ( r = -0.69), motor disability (MDS-UPDRS-III) ( r = -0.49), axial signs of MDS-UPDRS-III ( r = -0.55), HY ( r = -0.44), presence of nonmotor symptoms ( r = -0.51) and PDQ-8 index ( r = -0.64) (all P < 0.05). Motor EDL, MDS-UPDRS-III and PDQ-8 independently predicted Handicap (adjusted R
2 = 0.582; P = 0.007)., Conclusions: The LHS was easily completed by patients and caregivers. Patients were mild-moderately handicapped, which was strongly determined by motor disability and its impact on EDL, and poor QoL. Despite correlated, handicap and QoL seem to differ in what they measure, and handicap may have an added value to QoL. The present population study, from 1999 to 2003, has been based on the use of Spoligotyping in the genotyping of 452 isolates of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex from tuberculosis patients of the Fernando Fonseca Hospital. Spoligotypes were identified as "shared types" (STs) with the aid of an international database. Eleven rarely found STs, not identified in the database, grouped 8.4% of the isolates. Moreover, particular to Portugal, may be the predominance of STs identified in the database but not previously classified as genotypic families, such as ST244, ST150 and ST389, representing 13.3 % of the total. The identification of clinical isolates of M. africanum genotype Afri1 and of M. tuberculosis genotype CAS1 may confirm import of isolates of African and Asian origin. M. tuberculosis of the Beijing family was first reported by us as of 1999. Since then, the number of isolates at the Hospital has passed from one to five annually, representing 2.2% of the total and the tenth most predominant family in the present study. M. tuberculosis Beijing may correspond to an emerging problem in Portugal due to recent immigration from Eastern Europe and Asia. Other genotypes, ST150 and ST389, have shown increase, the significance of which is not clear. However, the relative frequencies of the predominant families LAM, T1 and Haarlem remained relatively stable. The present study confirms the genetic variability in Portugal of M. tuberculosis complex isolates. These studies may contribute to the definition of priorities in the national tuberculosis control programs.

Spoligotyping was used in the genotyping of 219 isolates of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, from patients of the Hospital Fernando Fonseca. This technique, based on PCR methodology, analyses a region of the chromosome specific of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, the DR locus (Direct Repeat). With the aid of an international database, we showed that the predominant Spoligotypes belonged to the LAM family (Latino-American Mediterranean), 29.2 %. The LAM 9 family, with 12.3 %, left us attentive to the possible import of the disease through populations from South America, were it has been frequently identified. The genotypic families T1 and Haarlem, with 6.4 % and 8.7 % respectively, represented a frequency typical to Europe. The Beijing family, with 1.4 %, may represent an emerging problem in our country due to recent immigration of Asian and Eastern European populations. Isolates with a Spoligotype of the M. bovis type were found at a high percentage, 3.7 %. In Europe, this infection is extremely rare suggesting the result may not be due to M. bovis infection but to M. bovis BCG (due to vaccination or eventual recombinant BCG based therapies), or M. africanum (due to the proximity of the two species). A high percentage of the Spoligotypes were not identified by the database, 21.4 %. This is the first study of this type amongst us and may be the starting point for the creation of a data base with important consequences on the national program against tuberculosis.
