Com base no estudo da questão indígena e do indianismo na literatura brasileira, desde as crônicas dos viajantes e missionários do período colonial até a atualidade, bem como na leitura da própria autora sobre esses cânones, é mostrado como os povos originários foram sendo convertidos, excluídos, tornados cativos, associados a perdedores e subespécies. Ou seja, apagados da condição de sujeitos e de suas realidades socioculturais pelos esforços empreendidos pela intelligentsia brasileira no sentido de propagar ideias sobre o povo brasileiro e sua identidade enquanto nação eurocentrada. Por fim, são apontadas a interpretação de Graça Graúna sobre educação e direitos humanos, sua atuação contra a tese do “Marco Temporal” e a favor da sororidade entre as parentes indígenas. Espera-se, com essas reflexões e análises, jogar luz sobre projetos literários alinhados às cosmologias, auto-histórias e saberes indígenas na produção de um pensamento social de perspectiva decolonial e sensibilidade feminista, na construção de novo(s) projeto(s) coletivo(s) utópico(s) para o país.

Background: While partner involvement in health-related decision-making is linked with positive health behaviors, a key gap in the literature exists on how this construct should be measured and the specific ways men and women in Uganda perceive partner support in the context of family planning. The USAID-funded Social and Behavior Change Activity (SBCA) in Uganda explored the differences in male versus female priorities in the decision-making considerations and preferred measures of partner support related to family planning in order to design contextually relevant solutions. Methods: Cross -sectional study using a nationally representative telephone survey among 1177 men and women aged 18-49 years old in sexual partnerships. Key measures included current family planning use (Are you or your partner currently doing anything to prevent or delay becoming pregnant?); family planning decision-making considerations (In your experience, which of the following are the three most important considerations as you make family planning decisions?); and preferred partner support (What level of involvement would you like to see from your partner in your family planning decisions?). Multivariable logistic regressions explored factors associated with decision-making priorities and preferred partner support, adjusting for sociodemographic confounders. Results: Two-thirds (66%) of men and women wanted a high level of involvement from their partner, which was associated with higher odds of using family planning (aOR: 2.46, 95% CI: 1.87 - 3.24). Specific ways partners could be involved included accompanying them to health services (39%), permitting them to get family planning services (26%), and jointly discussing family planning options (23%). Of note, more women wanted their partner to accompany them (45%) than men (33%) while more men (29%) wanted to jointly discuss options than women (15%). Conclusions: Partner support needs to be operationalized differently for men and women; therefore, social and behavior change (SBC) interventions should employ a gender lens when implementing family planning programs. The project used these insights to implement a health campaign that leverages the views of key audiences; explicitly encourages partner dialogue across the various life stages; and empowers women with knowledge and skills to have honest conversations with their partners about when to have children and how many to have.

Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the effect of smartphone screen time on general health status of adult patients with cancer compared to healthy participants in a Turkish population amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and Methods: 146 participants took part in this study, 81 of them were cancer patients. The mean screen time throughout their last week was obtained from the smartphones of all participants. The health status of participants was analyzed via the General Health Survey (GHS) which was a self-reported questionnaire including 12 items rated on a Likert scale. The relationship between screen time and GHS score and related factors for participants was compared. Results: The median screen time and GHS of participants were 180 minutes (10-945) and 13.5 (4-28), respectively. After screen time was categorized in respect to the mean of 180 minutes, A younger age (p=0.007), higher educational status (p=0.03), and early-stage disease (p=0.03) were each associated with increased screen time. IntroductionWhile surgical resection for primary tumor and distant metastases is recommended among individuals with resectable colorectal liver metastases, the role and timing of perioperative systemic therapy is not yet defined.Materials and MethodsThe National Cancer Database was queried for patients diagnosed with metastatic colorectal adenocarcinoma with isolated liver metastases between 2004 and 2016. We evaluated the overall survival (OS) based on the perioperative chemotherapy status using Kaplan-Meier estimates and multivariable cox regression analyses.ResultsA total of 6,883 patients with metastatic CRC and liver metastases were included, within which 6,042 (87.8%) were treated with surgery and chemotherapy, and 841(12.2%) were treated with surgery only. We found that patients who were treated with surgery and chemotherapy had better OS compared to patients who were treated with surgery only (median OS 42.9 months vs 6.4 months, PConclusionPatients with CRC with isolated liver metastases who were treated with perioperative chemotherapy had significant improvement in OS compared to patients who didn’t receive chemotherapy. Also, neoadjuvant chemotherapy had better OS compared to adjuvant chemotherapy, and multiagent chemotherapy had better OS compared to single-agent chemotherapy.

Based on elements and passages from the work of Graça Graúna, an indigenous Potiguara scholar, this article discusses the important contribution of contemporary indigenous literature to the renewal of social theory about Brazil and its people, tensioning the hegemonic Brazilian sociology in our representation of national society, with emphasis on overcoming the ethnic invisibilization crossed by the desire for social emancipation in pluricultural perspective. Based on the study of the indigenous issue and Indianism in Brazilian literature, from the chronicles of travelers and missionaries in the colonial period to the present day, as well as the author's own reading of these canons, it is shown how the original peoples were being converted, excluded, made captives, associated with losers and subspecies. That is, erased from the condition of subjects and their sociocultural realities by the efforts undertaken by the Brazilian intelligentsia in order to propagate ideas about the Brazilian people and its identity as a Eurocentered nation. Finally, Graça Graúna's interpretation of education and human rights and her actions against the thesis of the "Temporal Framework" and in the sorority to indigenous relatives are pointed out. It is the expectation of these reflections and analyses to shed light on literary projects aligned with indigenous cosmologies, self-histories and knowledge in the production of a social thought with a decolonial perspective and feminist sensibility, in the construction of new collective and utopic project(s) for the country. Domestic work, particularly that of babysitting, is scarcely studied and recognized in Brazil. Nowadays, neoliberalism and regression in social and legal guarantees generate strong tension among the most present contingent in this category: Poor black women. In the article, we present research results from Brasilia-DF that, based on in-depth interviews, addresses this body, lived in the labor practice of these caregivers, as a space of observation and significance of social relations, distinguished by the intersections of race, gender and class. The body emerges in the data from a historical survey that reveals the complex process of oppression to which they are subjected for generations. In addition, the narratives present the experiences of being a nanny through feelings and physical sensations that range from affection to abjection. Finally, historical struggles of domestic workers are addressed and the current political-economic scenario is problematized as a result of Constitutional Amendment 72/2013.

Numerous studies have reported the beneficial effects of antioxidants in human diseases. Among their biological effects, a majority of antioxidants scavenge reactive radicals in the body, thereby reducing oxidative stress that is associated with the pathogenesis of many diseases. Antioxidant dendrimers are a new class of potent antioxidant compounds reported recently. In this study, six polyphenol-based antioxidant dendrimers with or without electron donating groups (methoxy group) were synthesized in order to elucidate the influence of electron donating groups (EDG) on their antioxidant activities. Syringaldehyde (2 ortho methoxy groups), vanillin (1 ortho methoxy group), and 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde (0 methoxy group) were derivatized with propargylamine to form building blocks for the dendrimers. All the six dendrimers contain polyether cores, which were synthesized by attaching pentaerythritol and methyl α-D-glucopyranoside to in-house prepared spacer units. To prepare generation 1 antioxidant dendrimers, microwave energy and granulated metallic copper catalyst were used to link the cores and building blocks together via alkyne-azide 1,3-cycloaddition click chemistry. These reaction conditions resulted in high yields of the target dendrimers that were free from copper contamination. Based on DPPH antioxidant assay, antioxidant dendrimers decorated with syringaldehyde and vanillin exhibited over 70- and 170-fold increase in antioxidant activity compared to syringaldehyde and vanillin, respectively. The antioxidant activity of dendrimers increased with increasing number of EDG groups. Similar results were obtained when the dendrimers were used to protect DNA and human LDL against organic carbon and nitrogen-based free radicals. In addition, the antioxidant dendrimers did not show any pro-oxidant activity on DNA in the presence of physiological amounts of copper. Although the dendrimers showed potent antioxidant activities against carbon and nitrogen free radicals, EPR and DNA protection studies revealed lack of effectiveness of these dendrimers against hydroxyl radicals. The dendrimers were not cytotoxic to CHO-K1 cells.

Outcomes of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in elderly patients unfit for intensive chemotherapy is challenging. Hypomethylating agents (HMAs) can be effective in these patients but responses are usually short-lived. The majority of patients will either have stable disease or progress through therapy. We hereby describe the outcome of these patients at our institution after they fail HMAs. The data on 56 AML patients at Mayo Clinic, Rochester were reviewed. Patients were considered for our study if they received HMA as frontline therapy for their AML. Out of 56 patients, 15 (27%) patients received azacitidine (AZA) and 41 (73%) received decitabine. Complete remission was found in 10 (18%), with overall response of 28% and median response duration of 10 months. Thirteen (81%) out of 16 responders relapsed. Therefore 53 patients were included in the primary or secondary failure analysis with a median overall survival (OS) of two months after the date of failure. Out of 53 patients, 12 (23%) received subsequent treatments. None of the 12 patients who got first salvage therapy achieved remission. Five out of the 12 patients received second salvage therapy, 2 (40%) of which achieved CR. Median OS for patients who received subsequent salvage therapies was better than those who did not receive any subsequent therapy after failing HMA (9.5 vs 2 months, p = 0.0009). Outcome for patients who have primary or secondary failure is very poor. Our study provides important historical data for future novel therapies, which are sorely needed for these patients. Research was aimed to determine the effect of margarine application on the physicochemical and sensory properties of culled layer hens sausages. In addition to utilizing the culled layer hens meat as a source of animal protein, as well as to diversify food, so that the resulting product can be accepted by consumers. This study was conducted in a completely randomized experimental design with four treatments unidirectional pattern with margarine giving addition 0.0 %; 2.5 %; 5.0 % and 7.5 % with four replications. The data obtained were statistically tested by analysis of variance (ANOVA), if there is a noticeable difference, then it continued to Duncan's multiple range test. The analysis showed that the water content, fat content, and pH sausage has significant effect, but the protein content was not significantly between the sausages were not given margarine (P-1) and the sausages are given margarine (P-2, P-3 and P-4). The sausage produced will increase the protein content, fat content, and pH with increasing percentage of margarine given, otherwise the moisture content will decrease. Based on sensory testing (appearance, color, flavor, texture and total acceptance), culled layer hens sausage can be accepted by consumers. Penelitian ini dilakukan secara eksperimental dengan rancangan acak lengkap pola searah dengan empat perlakuan pemberian margarin 0,0 %; 2,5 %; 5,0 % dan 7,5 % dengan empat kali ulangan. Data yang diperoleh diuji secara statistik dengan analisa varian (ANOVA), apabila terdapat perbedaan yang nyata dilakukan Uji jarak berganda Duncan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa kadar air dan kadar lemak dan pH sosis berpengaruh nyata namun kadar protein tidak berpengaruh nyata antara sosis yang tidak diberikan margarin (P-1) dan sosis yang diberikan margarin (P-2, P-3, dan P-4). Sosis yang dihasilkan akan semakin meningkat kadar protein, kadar lemak dan pH dengan bertambahnya persentasi margarin yang diberikan, sebaliknya kadar airnya akan menurun. Berdasarkan uji sensoris (tampilan, warna, flavor, tekstur dan total penerimaan), maka sosis ayam petelur afkir dapat diterima oleh konsumen. Sosis yang diberi margarin nilainya berkisar antara 7,0 – 8,4 (cukup suka – sangat suka) dan yang tidak diberi margarin nilainya lebih rendah yaitu berkisar antara 5,2 – 6,9 (netral – cukup suka).

Prior to the 2014–2016 Ebola epidemic, Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health and Sanitation had no infection prevention and control programme. High rates of Ebola virus disease transmission in healthcare facilities underscored the need for infection prevention and control in the healthcare system. The Ministry of Health and Sanitation led an effort among international partners to rapidly stand up a national infection prevention and control programme to decrease Ebola transmission in healthcare facilities and strengthen healthcare safety and quality. Leadership and ownership by the Ministry of Health and Sanitation was the catalyst for development of the programme, including the presence of an infection prevention and control champion within the ministry. A national policy and guidelines were drafted and approved to outline organisation and standards for the programme. Infection prevention and control focal persons were identified and embedded at public hospitals to manage implementation. The Ministry of Health and Sanitation and international partners initiated training for new infection prevention and control focal persons and committees. Monitoring systems to track infection prevention and control implementation were also established. This is a novel example of rapid development of a national infection prevention and control programme under challenging conditions. The approach to rapidly develop a national infection prevention and control programme in Sierra Leone may provide useful lessons for other programmes in countries or contexts starting from a low baseline for infection prevention and control.

Syringaldehyde- and vanillin-based antioxidant dendrimers were synthesized via microwave-assisted alkyne-azide 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition using copper granules as a catalyst. The use of Cu(I) as a catalyst resulted in copper contaminated dendrimers. To produce copper-free antioxidant dendrimers for biological applications, Cu(I) was substituted with copper granules. Copper granules were ineffective at both room temperature and under reflux conditions (5% yield). However, they were an excellent catalyst when dendrimer synthesis was performed under microwave irradiation, giving yields up to 94% within 8 h. ICP-mass analysis of the antioxidant dendrimers obtained with this method showed virtually no copper contamination (9 ppm), which was the same as the background level. The synthesized antioxidants, free from copper contamination, demonstrated potent radical scavenging with IC50 values of less than 3 μM in the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. In comparison, dendrimers synthesized from Cu(I)-catalyzed click chemistry showed a high level of copper contamination (4800 ppm) and no detectable antioxidant activity.

This paper presents the results of qualitative research conducted with the Decent Work Subcommittee members for Youth in December 2013. The research aimed to know perceptions and opinions of representatives of governments, workers and employers about the causes, difficulties, progress and challenges related to the problem of informal employment of young people in Brazil.

O objetivo desta dissertação de mestrado foi apreender e analisar o cotidiano das trabalhadoras domésticas no Brasil contemporâneo, tendo por foco a prática laboral de mulheres que trabalham como babás em Brasília/DF. Para tanto, a pesquisa tematizou o corpo vivido como espaço de observação e de significação de relações sociais recortadas pelos marcadores interseccionados de raça e gênero, pensando-os a partir de estudos sobre o pensamento feminista negro, a colonialidade e a historiografia brasileira. O corpo, portanto, foi abordado como categoria central de reflexão e análise para a compreensão das representações e práticas referentes à babá, em especial por meio da sua subclassificação em “corpo-objeto”, “corpo-afeto” e “corpo-abjeto”. Em busca das experiências corporais, entrevistas em profundidade foram realizadas com nove babás através de onde pudeapresentar as transições entre um sub-corpo a outro, mostrando que formam um todo em permanente imbricação. ______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT The goal of this master’s dissertation was to learn and analize the everyday life ofhouse workers in contemporary Brazil , having as a main focus the working practice ofwomen that work as nannies in Brasília/DF. Therefore, the research themed the living body asa space of observation for the meaning of social relations cropped by interseccional markersof race and gender, thinking them from the black feminist point of view, the coloniality andthe Brazilian historiography. The body, wherefore, was approached as a central category ofreflection and analisys for the understanding of the nanny’s representation and practices, inspecial through their subcategorization in “object-body” and “affection-body” and “abjectbody”.In the search for their bodily experiences , there were made in depth interviews withnine nannies through which I was able to present the transitions between one sub-body to thenext, showing that they form one whole in permanent imbrication.

Background: International Working Group (IWG) has set criteria in 2003 for response assessment in patients with AML; at which time intensive chemotherapy was the main therapy (Cheson, JCO 2003). Hypomethylating agents (HMA) were approved shortly after for the treatment of elderly AML (Fenaux, JCO 2009; Dombret et al Blood 2015). Although few patients achieve a deep response, the majority will have stable disease (SD), some of which could last several months while patients continue to receive HMA and gain clinical benefit. We hereby describe outcomes for patients who achieve SD with HMA for the treatment of elderly unfit AML patients. Methods: A total of 56 AML patients' data from Feb 2007 to June 2015 at Mayo Clinic were reviewed after appropriate IRB approval was obtained. All cases had their bone marrow slides reviewed at our institution. Patients were considered for our study if they received HMA as frontline therapy for their AML. Patients who received HMAs after induction chemotherapy failure or for their MDS were excluded. Response was identified based on 2003 IWG AML response criteria. Patients with SD were categorized into short-lasting ( Results: i) Characteristics: Fifty six AML patients were treated with HMA as frontline therapy with median age of 76 years (range, 59-91), 68% of which were males. Therapy related AML (T-AML) was seen in 2% of the cases. Cytogenetics were favorable risk in 2%, intermediate in 62%, and poor in 36%. Complete remission (CR) was found in 10 (18%) patients, CR with incomplete count recovery in 3 (5%), partial remission (PR) in 3 (5%) patients. Forty patients were non-responders (SD). ii) Characteristics of HMA SD cohorts: Upon comparison of cohort 1 versus cohort 2 there was no statistical significance in median age, white blood count, absolute neutrophil count, platelets, peripheral blood and bone marrow blasts, bone marrow cellularity and sex. Background: AML outcome in elderly patients unfit for intensive chemotherapy continues to be challenging. Hypomethylating agents (HMA) can be effective in these patients but responses are short-lived (Fenaux et al, JCO 2009; Dombret et al Blood 2015). Even though HMAs achieve superior response rates to supportive care alone, complete remissions (CR) are rarely achieved and often quickly lost when they occur. The majority of patients will either have stable disease or progress through therapy. We hereby describe the outcome of these patients at our institution after they fail HMAs. Methods: A total of 56 AML patients' data from Feb 2007 to June 2015 at Mayo Clinic were reviewed after appropriate IRB approval was obtained. All cases had their bone marrow slides reviewed at our institution. Patients were considered for our study if they received HMA as frontline therapy for their AML. Patients who received HMAs after induction chemotherapy failure or for their MDS were excluded. Response was identified based on IWG AML criteria (Cheson et al, JCO 2003). Prognostic factors were analyzed by univariate and multivariate analyses. Survival estimates were calculated using Kaplan-Meier curves and univariate and multivariate analyses was based on log-rank testing using JMP software version 10. Results: i) Characteristics at Diagnosis: We identified 56 AML patients treated with HMA as frontline therapy with median age of 76 years (range, 59-91), 68% of which were males. Cases were classified as AML with myelodysplasia related changes in 25%, and therapy related myeloid neoplasm in 2%, and not otherwise specific in 73%. Out of 56 cases, 23% were secondary to MDS, 2% ET (Essential Thrombocytopenia), 5% PV (Polycythemia Vera), 5% MF (Myelofibrosis), 4% from CMML (Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia); while 61% were de novo AML. Per cytogenetics data, 2% were considered favorable risk, 62% intermediate, and 36% poor (34% had complex karyotype). ii) Clinical outcome to Frontline HMA: Out of 56 patients, 15(27%) patients received azacitidine (AZA) and 41 (73%) received decitabine (DAC) with a median number of cycles of 4 (range 1-62). Median number of cycles was higher for AZA vs DAC (8 vs 4, p =0.3). CR was found in 10 (18%), CR with incomplete count recovery in 3 (5%), partial remission (PR) in 3 (5%) patients, with overall response of 28% and median response duration of 10 months (range, 1-78 months). Thirteen (81%) out of 16 responders relapsed. Therefore, only 53 patients were included in primary or secondary failure analysis. iii) Clinical outcome to Frontline HMA failure: Out of 53 patients, 12 (23%) received subsequent treatments. Out of the 12 patients, 3 (25%) received another HMA (switch), 2 (17%) subcutaneous low dose cytarabine, 4 (33%) intensive chemotherapy, while 3 (25%) received either therapy on a clinical trial or targeted therapy. None of the 12 patients who got first salvage therapy achieved remission. Five out of the 12 patients received second salvage therapy, 2 (40%) of which achieved CR. Only one patient had third salvage therapy and did not respond. No patient was able to proceed to allogenic hematopoietic cell transplantation. Median overall survival (mOS) for this group was 2 months. Median OS for patients who received subsequent salvage therapies was better than those who did not receive any subsequent therapy after failing HMA (9.5 vs 2 months, p = 0.0009). Conclusions: Elderly patients diagnosed with AML who are unfit for intensive chemotherapy have a poor prognosis. HMA can get some patients into remission but most patients will ultimately fail. Outcome for patients who have primary or secondary (relapse) failure is very poor with a median OS of 2 months. Switch of HMA did not result in any response. Response to salvage therapy continues to be low but offering salvage therapies seem to improve OS. Our study provides historical data for future novel therapies, which are sorely needed for these patients. Figure Figure.
