- Abstract
Schooling has been proved to be a health-protective factor. Thus, it appears that what is taught and acquired in school leads to people being healthy. This study, written as an exploratory academic essay using a qualitative method, investigates the positive aspects of school education in health in health to combat preventable morbidities and early mortality and the holes that remain to be filled. As a consequence of the research conducted for this project, we present an outline of guiding domains capable of supporting program material in elementary school health education. We emphasize social disparities in the distribution of health issues in society, with literature searches revealing a strong and unmistakable link between greater levels of education and beneficial socioeconomic ramifications and protection against health adversities. In all age groups, the epidemiological evidence appears to be solid that males are more likely than women to die prematurely as a result of health neglect. There are several perspectives on how to modify the conditions of unequal distribution of health issues; nevertheless, experts appear to agree on the potential role of education for people's health, which begins early in the school environment., A escolaridade se apresenta como fator de proteção à saúde das pessoas.

STUDENT health , *HEALTH promotion , *SOCIAL determinants of health , *HEALTH education , *HEALTH programs - Abstract
This work is presented in order to discuss school health in Brazil, the construction of the School Health Program, its historical context and aspects related to intersectoral actions between education and health. It is based on exploratory research in different types of works, in order to constitute a scientifically relevant study and theoretical reflections and bring up current discussions on the topic addressed. The historicity of school health in the world is perceived and stratified until reaching the Brazilian context, in line with advances in global studies in public health, as well as the issuance of specific ordinances and interministerial documents involving the Unified Health System, the attention primary care and health promotion. The discussion about intersectoriality and its perspectives as a way of management and its impacts on society and on the health of the student is promoted. Some forms and examples of prevention, health education and health promotion actions are also exposed in conjunction with the understanding of the social determinants of health. It is concluded that, despite the unstable historical path, the health of the student has become one of the aspects of health promotion policies of great importance for the Brazilian nation and that it still needs organized and well-managed actions to carry out a satisfactory intersectoral dynamic. Arab-Islamic communities keep customs that are transmitted to descendants in their family and community spaces. The study aimed to analyze the influence of Arab-Islamic culture on health learning in two schools in Foz do Iguaçu - Brazil and one school in Cidade de Leste - Paraguay. This is a quantitative-descriptive study, conducted in 2017. A structured questionnaire was used. 37 high school students of Arab-Islamic origin participated. In data analysis, the frequency, percentage, mean, median and standard deviation of the observations were calculated. Of the 37 participants, 67.6% are female, with a mean age of 17.2 years. The data were organized in three evaluative questions: 1) Health Hygiene (in the three schools, a score of 5 (median) was attributed to the vast majority of the statements, associating learning with social life); 2) Water / Basic Sanitation (the Biological Sciences subject had the highest frequency of grades 5 (median) in the three schools, and the item that received the highest score was "drinking water must be drinkable" and the one with the lowest was "Correct disposal of waste" with grade 3). 3) Healthy Eating (the discipline of Biological Sciences was the one that had the least influence on the answers, obtained a low frequency of grades 5 (median), different from the discipline of Religion with higher scores). Arab-Islamic culture contributes to health learning by demonstrating that working with religious leaders can be strategic, especially on items, water/sanitation, waste disposal and the importance of avoiding standing water for dengue prevention. Objective: To know the experience of students identified as witnesses of bullying situations. Methodology: Qualitative and exploratory study developed in a Brazilian school, in the light of the Social cognitive theory. Twenty students aged between 13 and 18 years participated. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and focus groups. Thematic analysis was applied to the data. Results: The prevalence rate of students who observed bullying was 64%. Participants have good knowledge about bullying, assess aggressive behavior as negative or harmful, but this understanding does not translate into a sense of self-efficacy and actions to help victims. A thematic category was built -- Taking action, reinforcing and feeling -- "What was also motivating the aggressor to do this is the audience". Conclusion: The students' experience is marked by individual, school and contextual issues. Implications for primary health care are spelled out. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A lot of studies warn of inadequate levels of sedentary lifestyles, emotional problems and lack of motivation towards healthy habits from an early age. Vital behaviours are established during childhood, and the school should provide the best examples for acquiring them. We set out to find out whether an active recess programme helps to improve indexes of physical activity in Primary Education, and find out which variables influence participation in recess time. We used the perceived effort scale and a multiscale to assess intrinsic motivation, perception of the relational environment and intention to practice. A voluntary monitored recess programme was conducted with 30 boys and girls aged 6-11 years, for a period of 2 weeks of preparation and 3 weeks of intervention, every day of the week. High percentages of participation were obtained, both in active and more relaxed breaks, with a higher predisposition in boys (+8.96%). Active monitored recess at a moderate level are an alternative to increase school physical activity, contributing to improve effort control and enhance intrinsic motivation towards physical activity.

The environment has been shown to be pivotal in the development of children during the school age; that it must be taken into account when promoting the child's health. This study analyzed worldwide literature on school health promotion in relation to the environment. A search was carried out including indexed articles using the keywords school health, health promotion and environment. The search covered the term 2014-2017, without any language or geographic restriction. Out of 106 reported references, 40 met the selection criteria; these ones were applied a bibliometric analysis regarding the environment classification, evidence level and content-based categories. Even though the reported evidence is weak, it is verified that the school health relates directly to the environment from the personal sphere to the cultural and social spheres. The contents in the studied literature can be grouped in six categories: interactions and citizen's behavior, environment and hydration, environment and physical activity, dealing with special health conditions, environment and nutrition, and policies to promote health at school. Objectives. To determine the proportion of primary school students who fulfill the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations on physical activity and the factors associated with less time of moderate-intense physical activity in urban areas of three cities in Peru. Materials and methods. Cross-sectional study with a random selection of schoolchildren aged 6 to 13 from public educational institutions in urban areas of Chiclayo, Huaraz and Tarapoto. In order to measure the time and intensity of physical activity, schoolchildren were given an accelerometer for a week. Furthermore, nutritional conditions were evaluated through the calculation of their body mass index. Results. A total of 1241 schoolchildren of both sexes aged between 6 and 13 years participated. 40% of schoolchildren in Chiclayo, 56% in Tarapoto and 66% in Huaraz fulfilled the WHO recommendations to perform at least 60 minutes of moderate-intense physical activity per day. The intensity of physical activity was significantly higher in younger schoolchildren and males. It was also found that the factors associated with fewer minutes of moderate-intense physical activity per day were schoolchildren of older age, females, with an obesity condition, whose mothers had higher educational level, and lived in Chiclayo or Tarapoto (p 0.05). Conclusions. Nearly 50% of schoolchildren meet the WHO recommendation on daily physical activity, the less active groups were older schoolchildren, obese and female; therefore, actions should be focused on them to promote adequate physical activity habits.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the school violence suffered and practiced and its association with the use of alcohol and other drugs in adolescents between 12 and 18 years old. Method: the study sample consisted of 643 adolescents enrolled in six schools, who answered two self-administered questionnaires: “Global School-based Student Health Survey” and “Violence in School”. Statistical analysis was performed using the chi-square test and the degree of association between the variables was analyzed using the prevalence ratio. Results: the prevalence of school violence suffered and practiced was 62.2% and 51.9%, respectively. About 44.6% of the aggressors said they did not want to change their behavior. There was an expressive prevalence of alcohol use (16.5%), tobacco (15.7%) and illicit drugs (6.8%), and drunkenness (12.6%). There was a significant association between the violence suffered and the age group of 12 to 14 years old (p=0.001); (p=0.011) and education level in elementary school (p

ABSTRACT Objective: to evaluate the effect of the board game as an educational technology on schoolchildren’s knowledge on breastfeeding. Method: cluster-randomized clinical trial, held in nine schools, with 99 children in the third grade of elementary school (control group = 51 and intervention group = 48). The pretest was conducted in both groups; intervention consisted in the application of the educational technology immediately after pretest to the intervention group; and the post-test was applied on the 7th and 30th days to both groups. For the analysis of children’s knowledge on breastfeeding, we considered the pre- and post-test score means, using the Mann-Whitney test - for comparing the means between groups - and the Wilcoxon test - within the same group. Results: there was no statistically significant difference between the groups in the pretest. In the follow-up, when comparing the groups, there were higher means in the intervention group, on the 7th (19.68 ±1.788) and on the 30th (20.16±1.260) days, with statistically significant difference. Within the intervention group, there was significant increase of the means in the pretest (15.89±3.082) for the 30th day (20.16±1.260). Conclusion: such educational intervention has significantly contributed to the increase in scores of children’s knowledge on breastfeeding for the intervention group. UTN: U1111-1184-7386.

Abstract This study aimed to analyze the consumption of high-sugar foods by Brazilian schoolchildren and to identify associated factors, based on data from the National School Health Survey (PeNSE 2012). Consumption of these foods was classified as: do not consume sweets and soft drinks regularly; consume sweets or soft drinks regularly; and consume sweets and soft drinks regularly. Its association with sociodemographic information, eating habits, and family contexts were investigated via multiple ordinal regressions. Regular consumption of sweets and/or soft drinks was reported by 19.2% and 36.1% of adolescents, respectively, and higher prevalence was associated with female gender, age 14-15 years, higher maternal education, not living with the mother and father, not eating meals with the parents, eating while watching TV, and longer TV time. Nearly one-fifth of adolescents regularly consumed sweets and soft drinks, which was associated with socio-demographic and behavioral factors that should be targeted in order to improve their food consumption.

Objective: to identify the characteristics and reasons reported by Brazilian students for school bullying. Method: this cross-sectional study uses data from an epidemiological survey (National Survey of School Health) conducted in 2012. A total of 109,104 9th grade students from private and public schools participated. Data were collected through a self-applied questionnaire and the analysis was performed using SPSS, version 20, Complex Samples Module. Results: the prevalence of bullying was 7.2%, most frequently affecting Afro-descendant or indigenous younger boys, whose mothers were characterized by low levels of education. In regard to the reasons/causes of bullying, 51.2% did not specify; the second highest frequency of victimization was related to body appearance (18.6%); followed by facial appearance (16.2%); race/color (6.8%); sexual orientation 2.9%; religion 2.5%; and region of origin 1.7%. The results are similar to those found in other sociocultural contexts. Conclusion: the problem belongs to the health field because it gathers aspects that determine the students' health-disease-care continuum.

Background: Bullying at school has stood out, generating several negative repercussions on the health of adolescents. Objective: To evaluate the effects of an intervention based on the Theatre of the Oppressed in the reduction of bullying at school 6 months after its completion. Methodology: A quasi-experimental study, conducted between 2016 and 2017, with high school students from two schools of the state capital of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Among the 231 participants, 133 composed the intervention group, and 98 the comparison group. Before and after the intervention, the groups were assessed by the Peer Aggression and Victimization Scale (EVAP). The t-test and chi-squared test were used for the data analysis, and measurements were not compared. Results: The intervention group showed a significant reduction in the direct victimization and aggression, 6 months after the end of the intervention. However, the comparison group showed a significant increase in all forms of bullying victimization and aggression. Conclusion: The Theatre of the Oppressed contributed to the reduction of bullying among adolescents and can be incorporated into the actions of health promotion in schools. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
In contexts in which poverty compromises children's health and quality of life, the study of perceived health allows for the identification of aspects of quality of life affected by overweight and obesity. From this perspective, the objectives of this study were: 1) to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity in schoolchildren aged 8-12 years living in contexts of poverty, 2) to describe and compare the perception of health of children according to the presence or absence of overweight and obesity, and 3) to identify possible factors associated with low quality of life related to health. A quantitative and cross-sectional study was conducted. The KIDSCREEN-52 questionnaire was applied and weight and height were assessed in 666 schoolchildren living in the department of Simoca (province of Tucumán), which has high percentages of structural poverty. The high prevalence of overweight (23.0%) and obesity (27.2%) affect the perception of health among children, especially in psychosocial dimensions such as moods and emotions, autonomy, social acceptance, and financial resources. Years ago it was considered that hypertension was manifested with low incidence in childhood; However, multiple studies in a variety of ethnic and racial groups have shown an increased prevalence in this age group. It was conducted a cross-sectional descriptive study at three medical offices of "Chiqui Gómez Lubián" Polyclinic in Santa Clara city, Villa Clara Province, during the period from January 2012 to May 2014 with the aim to identify how many children there are in this health area who have prehypertension as well as the risk factors that affect them. The study population was 104 schoolchildren and the sample was composed of 94 patients, it was excluded those patients who suffered from chronic noncommunicable diseases, except those who were interesting to the investigation. Anthropometric study, measurement of blood pressure and a questionnaire developed for this purpose were used as techniques. The family medical history, inadequate eating habits and excess weight and improper physical exercise predominated in patients diagnosed with prehypertension or hypertension. Finally it was concluded that school-stricken modifiable risk factors are most affected by hypertensive disease, which shows that if the lifestyles of these patients were modified it would achieve delay their appearances, improve their outcomes and delay their complications.

- Abstract

- Abstract

Method: the analysis was carried out through a cross-sectional quantitative study, the research design is descriptive and was performed with the evaluation of Trianes et al. (2009), "the child stress assessment: inventory of daily stressors" (IIEC), this test was directed to girls between 8 and 14 years of age of the Santo Angel high school. Results: It was found that the perception of the students of Santo Angel regarding the pandemic and post-pandemic had variations, although these differences in their scores may indicate a correlation. We did not focus on using statistical tools that would allow us to affirm this, due to the type of study and the particular interest in the perception of the students, therefore, the content of the results yields data of an experiential nature, as to, how they felt and how they perceived the different situations that the questionnaire enunciated.

- Abstract
A lot of studies warn of inadequate levels of sedentary lifestyles, emotional problems and lack of motivation towards healthy habits from an early age. Vital behaviours are established during childhood, and the school should provide the best examples for acquiring them. We set out to find out whether an active recess programme helps to improve indexes of physical activity in Primary Education, and find out which variables influence participation in recess time. We used the perceived effort scale and a multi-scale to assess intrinsic motivation, perception of the relational environment and intention to practice. Active monitored recess at a moderate level are an alternative to increase school physical activity, contributing to improve effort control and enhance intrinsic motivation towards physical activity., Numerosos estudios llaman la atención de insuficientes niveles de actividad física, problemas emocionales y motivación baja hacia los hábitos saludables desde edades tempranas.
