Faught; "A Comparison of Riparian and Appropriated Water Rights," by Wells A. Hutchins; "A Comparison of Land-Value Theories and the Everyday Operation of the Land Market," by Robert L. Tontz; "Geography of the Rainforest of Western Pichincha and Esmeraldas, Ecuador," by Luis Freile; and others.

This article focuses on the annual meeting of the Southwestern Sociological Society which was held on April 3 and 4, 1942 in conjunction with that of the Southwestern Social Science Association in Dallas, Texas. Round table discussions following the presentation of a limited number of papers featured the meeting. This article also mentions papers presented by different scholars on various social topics in this meeting. Some of the papers presented were: "The Effects of Crises Upon the Emergence of New Patterns in Social Organization," by Robert L. Sutherland; "Research Methods in Historical Sociology," by William L. Kolb; "Needed Sociological Research in Farm Tenancy," by T.G. Standing; "Contemporary Reputations in Scholarship and Science," by Logan Wilson; "Practicability of a Community Bibliography," by Kurt Wolf and Walter T. Watson; "Socialization and the Youth Culture," by N.J. Demerath. The Society voted unanimously for affiliation with the American Sociological Society and elected its retiring president William H. Sewell to represent it on the National Executive Committee.

The International Statistical Institute (ISI) announces the Second Competition among statisticians from developing countries who are invited to submit a paper on any topic within the broad field of statistics for possible presentation at the Centenary Session of ISI to be held in Amsterdam, Netherlands on August 12-22, 1985. The International Association of Energy Economics will hold its Sixth Annual North American Meeting on November 5-7, 1984.

This article presents the report of the Committee for Liaison with National Council for the Social Studies. The purpose of the Committee of the American Sociological Society for Liaison with the National Council for the Social Studies is to improve the recognition of the interrelation- ships between the science of sociology and the social studies as taught in the schools.
