Background: During episodes of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), individuals with migraine, compared with individuals without migraine, may experience more severe vestibular symptoms because of their hyperexcitable brain structures, more adverse effects on quality of life, and worse recovery processes from BPPV. Methods: All patients with BPPV were assigned to the migraine group (MG, n = 64) and without migraine group (BPPV w/o MG, n = 64) and completed the Vertigo Symptom Scale (VSS), Vertigo Dizziness Imbalance Symptom Scale (VDI-SS), VDI Health-Related Quality of Life Scale (VDI-HRQoLS), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) at the time of BPPV diagnosis (baseline) and on the one-month follow-up. Headache Impact Test-6 and Migraine Disability Assessment Scale were used for an assessment of headache. Motion sickness was evaluated based on the statement of each patient as present or absent. Results: Compared with the BPPV w/o MG, the MG had higher VSS scores at baseline [19.5 (10.7) vs. 11.3 (8.5); p < 0.001] and on one-month follow-up [10.9 (9.3) vs. 2.2 (2.7), p < 0.001]; experienced more severe dizziness and imbalance symptoms based on the VDI-SS at baseline (61.9% vs. 77.3%; p < 0.001) and after one month (78.9% vs. 93.7%, p < 0.001); and more significantly impaired quality of life according to the VDI-HRQoLS at baseline (77.4% vs. 91.8%, p < 0.001) and after one month (86.3% vs. 97.6%, p < 0.001). On the one-month follow-up, the subgroups of patients with moderate and severe scores of the BAI were higher in the MG (39.2%, n = 24) than in the BPPV w/o MG (21.8%, n = 14) and the number of patients who had normal scores of the BDI was lower in the MG than in the BPPV w/o MG (67.1% vs. 87.5%, p = 0.038). Conclusion: Clinicians are advised to inquire about migraine when evaluating patients with BPPV because it may lead to more intricate and severe clinical presentation. Aim: The present study assessed the benefits of cognitive behavioral treatment in patients suffering from major depressive disorders. Methodology: Hundred patients were included in the present study. The cases were assigned alternatively to the experimental group, who received cognitive behavior therapy in addition to the antidepressant medications, whereas in the control group, patients were managed using medications. Four outcome measures were used, viz., Beck Depression Inventory, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, Beck Anxiety Inventory, and Visual Analog Scale. Chi-square test was used to analyze the data using SPSS. Results: The highest number of subjects (55%) were found in the age group of 15-25 years. The mean Beck Depression Inventory score in the experimental group was 35.60 (standard deviation 9.52) and in the control group, it was 26.40 (standard deviation 8.26) giving a mean difference of 9.20 which is statistically significant. Conclusion: It was found that the patients who received cognitive behavior therapy reported greater improvement in their symptomatology than the patients who were receiving medications only. Background: Dietary acid load seems to be associated with psychological disorders through several mechanisms, and may barricade their treatment and recovery. The aim of current study was to evaluate the relationship between dietary acid load, using potential renal acid load (PRAL) and dietary acid load (DAL) scores, with the severity of depression and anxiety among Iranian adults. Methods: A total of 6531 participants aged 35–65 years were recruited in this cross-sectional study. A validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) was used to assess dietary intakes of participants. DAL was estimated using PRAL and DAL scores. Depression and anxiety were screened using Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Results: In the fully adjusted model, women with the highest DAL or PRAL had higher odds of more severe depression compared to those in the lowest category (OR = 1.20; 95% CI = 1.03–1.42 and OR = 1.20; 95% CI = 1.03–1.39, respectively). No significant association was observed between DAL and PRAL and depression severity in men and in the population as a whole. Regarding the association between PRAL and anxiety severity, there was no significant association when separated by sex. However, in the fully adjusted model for the whole population, participants in the highest tertile of PRAL had 13% greater odds of more severe anxiety than the lowest tertile (OR: 1.13, 95% CI: 1.01–1.13). No significant association was observed between DAL and anxiety severity in women, men or in the whole population. Conclusion: Women, but not men, with higher dietary acid load had significantly higher odds of having more severe depression. Tinnitus is usually associated with different comorbidities such as anxiety, annoyance and depression. Evidences have targeted two main places for tinnitus treatment, namely the auditory cortex and the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has been reportedly associated with improvement of cognitive functions in individuals. This study was conducted to evaluate the therapeutic effects of repeated sessions of anodal bifrontal tDCS on tinnitus symptoms. Furthermore, the tDCS impacts on the comorbid depression and anxiety of the patients were investigated. Forty-two voluntaries that suffers from chronic tinnitus were randomly assigned into "real tDCS" (n = 21) and "sham tDCS" (n = 21) groups. The tDCS group, received tDCS with the protocol consisted of 2 mA current, daily one session of 20 min, 6 consecutive days per week and for 4 consecutive weeks. The tinnitus handicap inventory (THI) scale, was measured before the first tDCS session and at one-week and two weeks follow-up. With the same intervals; the distress-related tinnitus was evaluated using visual analogue scale. Depression and anxiety scores were also measured using the Beck depression inventory and Beck anxiety inventory scales, respectively. Our findings indicated that THI score, depression and anxiety level has been gradually diminished across subsequent measurement intervals. We also find significant reduction of distress-related tinnitus in the real-tDCS group after treatment. We conclude that application of tDCS to the bilateral DLPFC region alleviates chronic tinnitus and it should be considered in patients with refractory tinnitus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Impulsivity is the tendency to make decisions and act quickly without adequate planning and anticipating risks. Impulsivity is among the core symptoms of many psychiatric disorders. In addition, impulsivity can affect the course of various diseases shaped by behaviors. Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the presence of acne excoriee and different impulsivity dimensions. Study Design: A case–control study. Methods: Thirty patients with acne excoriee (AE+) and 30 acne vulgaris patients without excoriated lesions (AE‐) enrolled in this study. Impulsivity was evaluated by The Barratt Impulsivity Scale (BIS). In addition, The Beck Anxiety Inventory, The Beck Depression Inventory, and The Skin Picking Scale were applied to assess the clinical characteristics of the participants. Results: AE+ patients had higher non‐planning subscale scores of BIS than AE‐ patients in this study. In addition, the acne‐picking severity score determined by The Skin Picking Scale was positively correlated with non‐planning subscale scores of BIS. There was no significant difference between the groups regarding the Beck Depression Inventory and Beck Anxiety Inventory. Conclusions: These results indicate that AE patients have a lack of forethought. In other words, it has been shown that impulsive personality traits, which indicate a lack of planning for the future, may be associated with the acne‐picking behavior of the patients. Background/aim: Family accommodation (FA) is associated with disease severity and response to treatment rates in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and is therefore particularly important in this patient group. This study investigated the structure of FA and associated factors in a Turkish society sample. Materials and methods: The study was carried out with 92 patients diagnosed with OCD for at least 1 year, who applied to Alanya ALKU Training and Research Hospital psychiatry outpatient clinic between February 2021 and March 2022. Sociodemographic data form, Family Accommodation Scale-Patient Form (FAS-PF), Dimensional Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (DOCS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Acceptance and Action Questionnaire (AAQ-II) were applied to all of the cases. Relatives filled out the Sociodemographic Data. Results: The mean age of the patients was 32.11 ± 11.56 years. Sixty-nine (75%) of the patients were women. Fifty (54.3%) patients were married. All participants reported FA behavior at least once in the previous week. FA exhibited no significant variation by sex (p = 0.679) or marital status (p = 0.256). Significant positive correlation was determined between DOCS-T (r = 0.370, p < 0.001), AAQ-II (r = 0.261, p = 0.013), BDI (r = 0.235, p = 0.024) and BAI (r = 0.342, p = 0.001) scores and the FAS-PF. In the regression analysis, only OCD disease severity predicted FA [(ß = 0.295, p = 0.036, 95% confidence interval (95% CI) = 0.02 to 0.55)]. Higher FA scores were obtained in this study (23.93 ± 15.28) compared to previous research in Western societies (14.3 ± 15.2). Conclusion: Clinicians should consider FA in the examination of OCD patients. High FA values for both frequency and severity suggest that interventions directed toward FA may be associated with more positive outcomes in outpatient Turkish patients with OCD. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a non-invasive neuromodulation technique that is used against cognitive impairment in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the neurobiological mechanisms underlying the rTMS therapeutic effects are still only partially investigated. Maladaptive plasticity, glial activation, and neuroinflammation, including metalloproteases (MMPs) activation, might represent new potential targets of the neurodegenerative process and progression from MCI to AD. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effects of bilateral rTMS over the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) on plasmatic levels of MMP1, -2, -9, and -10; MMPs-related tissue inhibitors TIMP1 and TIMP2; and cognitive performances in MCI patients. Patients received high-frequency (10 Hz) rTMS (MCI-TMS, n = 9) or sham stimulation (MCI-C, n = 9) daily for four weeks, and they were monitored for six months after TMS. The plasmatic levels of MMPs and TIMPs and the cognitive and behavioral scores, based on the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS), Beck Depression Inventory II, Beck Anxiety Inventory, and Apathy Evaluation Scale, were assessed at baseline (T0) and after 1 month (T1) and 6 months (T2) since rTMS. In the MCI-TMS group, at T2, plasmatic levels of MMP1, -9, and -10 were reduced and paralleled by increased plasmatic levels of TIMP1 and TIMP2 and improvement of visuospatial performances. In conclusion, our findings suggest that targeting DLPFC by rTMS might result in the long-term modulation of the MMPs/TIMPs system in MCI patients and the neurobiological mechanisms associated with MCI progression to dementia. Objectives: The objective of the current study was to determine the frequency of anxiety and depression among patients diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) at a tertiary care cardiac center in Pakistan. Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted at a tertiary care cardiac center in Pakistan from May to November 2019. We included patients of either gender, between 30 and 70 years of age, diagnosed with ACS, and presented within 72 hours of onset of symptoms. After the standard treatment of the condition, the Beck Depression Inventory Scale (BDI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) were used to assess post-AMI depression and anxiety. The BDI =17 was categorized as depression and BAI =11 was taken as anxiety. Results: In the selected sample of 122 patients, the mean age was 58.7 ± 10.2 years and 88 (72.1%) patients were male. Diabetes mellitus was detected in 76 (62.3%) patients and 64 (52.5%) patients were smokers. The mean BDI score was 28.6 ± 6.5 and mean BAI score was 19.5 ± 5.1. Anxiety and depression were observed in 36 (29.5%) and 51 (41.8%) patients, respectively. Conclusion: Depression and anxiety are a common remnants of ACS, hence, in our day to day clinical practice, appropriate consideration should be given to the psychological wellbeing of patients in addition to the management of ACS. Introduction: The IASP ICD-11 chronic primary pain (CPP) definition includes 19 different painful conditions. In recent years, interest in the potential role of cannabinoids in the management of CPP has increased, since they demonstrated a possible efficacy in treating pain, especially in secondary pain conditions. However, limited evidence is available for patients with CPP. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of cannabinoid administration in CPP. Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library were searched form the beginning up to 31 October 2021 to retrieve published articles of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) or observational, retrospective or prospective, studies, investigating cannabinoids in CPP. The study screening process was completed during November 2021. The primary outcome was pain reduction by means of the visual analogue scale (VAS). Secondary outcomes were quality of life by means of the fibromyalgia impact questionnaire (FIQ) or other available scales, appetite, anxiety, depression, and sleep by means of any available scales. Safety was assessed with the reporting of serious adverse events (SAE) and discontinuation due to adverse events. Risk of bias was assessed. The weighted generic inverse variance method and Mantel–Haenszel method were used to estimate the mean difference (MD) and odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) for continuous and dichotomous outcomes, respectively. For outcome measures reported with different scales (pain, anxiety, depression), we used the standardized MD (SMD) as the effect measure and then converted it into units of the VAS scale for pain, the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) for anxiety, and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) for depression. Summary of findings was produced using GRADEproGDT. Results: From 3007 identified records, we included eight articles reporting the results of eight different RCTs (four parallel and four crossover studies; seven compared to placebo and one to amitriptyline), with a total population of 240 patients. VAS pain reduction was non-significant for cannabinoids against placebo (MD = − 0.64; 95% CI − 1.30 to 0.02) or amitriptyline (MD = − 0.19; 95% CI − 0.58 to 0.19). More than 4 weeks cannabinoid treatment significantly reduced pain compared to placebo in parallel studies with more than 4 weeks of treatment duration (MD = − 1.28; 95% CI − 2.33 to − 0.22). Differences for the FIQ (MD = − 21.69; 95% CI − 46.20 to 2.82), BAI (MD = − 2.32; 95% CI − 7.99 to 3.08), and BDI (MD = 2.32; 95% CI − 1.71 to 6.35) were non-significant, likewise for discontinuation due to adverse events (OR = 2.15; 95% CI 0.44–10.65), when comparing cannabinoids to placebo. The quality of the evidence was generally low mainly as a result of imprecision and risk of bias. Background/Objective: Whiplash-Associated Disorders (WAD) are one of the most complex conditions to evaluate because several of its symptoms are not observable with current diagnostic methods and cannot be quantified or evaluated correctly. No method is currently available to assess the risk of malingering in the aforementioned condition efficiently. Our aim is to study the capacity of several biopsychosocial psychometric self-report instruments, such as the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI), the Cervical Disability Index (NDI), the SF-36 Health Questionnaire, the Beck Anxiety and Depression Inventories (BDI-II and BAI), or the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (BIPQ), to discriminate between patients diagnosed with WAD following a vehicle accident and non-clinical participants with malingering instructions. Method: A simulation design was used with 630 participants: 200 non-clinical controls with honest responding condition, 201 instructed malingerers, and 229 WAD clinical outpatients. Results: Our results showed an AUC range of .60 to .90, with the highest value being that of the BPI (.90), followed by the NDI (.88), and the lowest value that of the BIPQ (.60), followed by the BAI (.71). Conclusions: Overall, the BPI, the NDI, and SF-36 can correctly discriminate between groups with a good specificity (> 90%), while the BAI, BDI, and BIPQ showed a lower capacity, with a high rate of false positives in the case of the BDI and of false negatives in the other two. Background: This study investigates the effect of the online Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Recent Traumatic Episode Protocol on posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, and burnout symptoms in healthcare workers diagnosed with pandemic- related post-traumatic stress disorder. Methods: The study included healthcare workers who applied to psychiatry outpatient clinics due to the psychiatric symptoms that developed related to the pandemic and who were diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. The Beck Anxiety Inventory, Impact of Event Scale-Revised to evaluate the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (avoidance, intrusion, and hyperarousal), Maslach Burnout Inventory, and Beck Depression Inventory were used for the assessment. The tests were administered 3 times (pre-treatment, post-treatment, and at 1-month follow-up). Results: This study included 14 healthcare workers diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder; 2 (14.3%) physicians, 2 (14.3%) nurses, 4 (28.6%) other-healthcare workers/medical staff, and 6 (42.8%) other healthcare workers/non-medical staff. There was a significant decrease in Impact of Event Scale-Revised total score, the intrusion and hyper-arousal sub-scores between T1 and T2 (P = .018; P = .005; P = .0005, respectively) and between T1 and T3 (P < .001; P < .001; P < .001, respectively), but there was no difference between T2 and T3 (P = .89). A significant difference was found in repeated measurements of both Beck Depression Inventory [P < .001] and Beck Anxiety Inventory [P < .001] scores. There was a significant difference in emotional exhaustion, one of the subscales of Maslach Burnout Inventory (P = .09). However, there was no significant difference in depersonalization (P = .48) and personal accomplishment (P = .66). Conclusions: Recent Traumatic Episode Protocol appears to be capable of reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, intrusion, and hyperarousal symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder and emotional exhaustion when symptoms that developed are related to the pandemic in healthcare workers. Introduction: A balanced diet is essential for overall health because it provides necessary nutrients. Eating disorders present medical and psychological risks that affect one's quality of life. Emotional eating can result from negative situations. Studies show that sadness has a greater impact on food consumption than happiness, leading to a 30-48% appetite fluctuation. Stress not only affects psychological health and influences food choices. Social support, typically from family and friends, provides both physical and psychological aid, addressing fundamental social needs and positively impacting overall well-being. Medical students facing intense stress during clinical courses are considered a risk group for emotional eating due to stressors. Method: Our study was conducted with Bezmialem Vakıf University, Faculty of Medicine students. Data were collected using the Demographic form, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, Perceived Stress Scale, Social Support Scale, and Emotional Eating Scale. The resulting data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0. Results: Among the students participating in the study (n=70), 35.7% were male and 64.3% were female. A significant positive correlation was observed between Perceived Stress and Emotional Eating Scales (r=0.246; p<0.05). Additionally, there was a significant positive correlation between Beck Anxiety and Depression Inventory and the Emotional Eating Scale (r=0.504; p<0.05, r=0.432; p<0.05, respectively). Furthermore, a significant negative correlation was found between the Social Support Scale and the Emotional Eating Scale (r=-0.272; p<0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that stressful lifestyles can have a real impact on the development of emotional eating problems among medical students. Medical schools should closely monitor the mental well-being of students and encourage them to develop healthy lifestyles, optimize coping styles, and establish sources of social support. Introduction: The effects of dialectical behavior therapy on generalized anxiety disorder have not been examined to date, whereas cognitive behavioral therapy is a well-known psychotherapy for generalized anxiety disorder. Objectives: This study investigated the effects of cognitive behavioral therapy versus dialectical behavior therapy on executive function and reduction of symptoms in generalized anxiety disorder. Method: In the present study, 72 generalized anxiety disorder patients were randomly assigned to one of two groups: dialectical behavior therapy or cognitive behavioral therapy. Evaluations were performed at baseline, post-test, and three months after interventions as a follow-up. Measures included the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis I disorders, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale, the Beck Anxiety Inventory, the Beck Depression Inventory, the Tower of London Task, and the Wisconsin Card Sorting Task. Results: The results of the present study showed that both groups had reduced scores for depression and anxiety and increased scores for executive function after the psychotherapies. These changes were maintained at follow-up. Conclusion: Although depression and anxiety symptoms were significantly reduced by cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy was more effective for improving executive function. The family is one of the institutions that interfere with well-being throughout development and may impact on quality of life. In the context of epilepsy, psychosocial aspects cushion or increase as implications of the disease. The aim of this research was to evaluate the relationship between the quality of family relationships, depression and anxiety symptoms and the effects on quality of life in people with epilepsy. The participants were 63 people, mostly 65.6% women diagnosed with epilepsy. Patients answered the Family Climate Inventory (ICF), the Beck Depression and Anxiety Inventory and the Epilepsy Quality of Life Inventory (QOLIE-31). This study has a cross-sectional and empirical cohort design. Significant correlations were found between family variables - cohesion, support and family conflict - and mood with the variables of quality of life, such as emotional well-being, energy/fatigue and overall quality of life. The results also show that individuals with. The results also demonstrate that individuals with high cohesion and high conflict have, respectively, a less and higher likely to present depressive symptoms. In addition, the linear regression model with the Beck Inventory of Depression and Positive Family Climate (support and family cohesion) explains (R = .28) quality of life. The results indicate the importance of family support and cohesion for the improvement of quality of life and the relationship between family conflict and the highest rates of anxiety and depression. Objective: To evaluate the presence and relation of depression and anxiety among patients seeking rhinoplasty Study Design: A cross-sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: Departments of Psychiatry, department of Plastic Surgery and ENT, Combined Military Hospital Multan, from Jan 2019 to Mar 2020. Methodology: A total of 102 patients were recruited that reported to Plastic surgery and ENT unit. Patients were divided equally in two groups of 51 each. One group included patients seeking rhinoplasty while other group included those patients that reported in Plastic surgery and ENT unit for reasons other than rhinoplasty. Symptom were assessed using Beck Depressive Inventory for depression and Beck Anxiety Inventory for anxiety. Results: A total of 102 participants were included in the study, of these 51 were patients seeking rhinoplasty and 51 were controls. Significant correlation exist between anxiety and depression (p<0.00). Objective: To determine the presence and severity of depression and anxiety in patients with tinnitus. Study Design: Cross sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: This study was conducted at department of Psychiatry, Combined Military Hospital Multan in collaboration with ENT department, Combined Military Hospital Multan, from Sep 2019 to Mar 2020. Methodology: All diagnosed cases of tinnitus in ENT out-patient department Tinnitus Handicap inventory (THI) was applied to assess the severity of tinnitus. Diagnosis of depression and Anxiety was done based on diagnostic criteria of ICD10 of WHO and symptom severity was assessed using Beck Depressive Inventory (BDI) for depression and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) for Anxiety. Results: A total of 88 participants were included in this study. Fifty-three (60.2%) were male, 35 (39.7%) were females. Twentythree (20.2%) ranged between 18-40 years of age, 65 (57.2%) participants ranged between 41-60 years of age. Seven (12.5%) participants scored less than 38 on tinnitus handicap inventory showing mild severity of tinnitus, 3 (5.3%) individuals scored moderate while 19 (33.9%) had severe level of tinnitus. Thirty-three (37%) participants had depression 55 (62%) out of total 88 participants had anxiety. Conclusion: Studies show presence of anxiety and depression in patients with tinnitus so it seems prudent to screen all patients of tinnitus for psychiatric co morbidity. A multidisciplinary approach is required for the treatment of patients with tinnitus so that physical as well as psychiatric/psychological management of these patients is provided well in time. Objective: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. Many studies have examined their psychological effects. However, during these periods when the new case of COVID-19 patients decreased, their psychological effects were not sufficiently reported. Our aim was to investigate the anxiety and depressive symptom levels of healthcare workers (HCW) during the periods when the increase in the number of cases slowed down in the COVID-19 epidemic. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional a questionnaire consisted of Beck Depression Inventory and Beck Anxiety Inventory was applied to 143 people working in a university hospital. General information such as age, gender, marital status, study history in the COVID-19 pandemic, history of chronic disease, and whether there are other HCW at home was collected and compared. Results: The median value of beck anxiety score was 6. The median value of Beck depression score varies by gender (p=0.015). Median value of Beck depression score varies according to marital status (p=0.011). The median value of Beck anxiety score varies according to gender (p=0.008). The median value of Beck anxiety score varies according to occupational groups (p=0.003). A significant link was obtained between Beck depression groups and marital status (p<0.001). Objective: Perfectionism is one of the leading clinical symptoms of the obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD). This research aimed to compare perfectionism and serum thyroid hormone levels between individuals with OCPD and healthy individuals of a control group. Methods: The serum levels of free T4, free T3, and thyroid-stimulating hormone of 37 patients diagnosed with OCPD and 36 healthy controls with similar sociodemographic traits were measured. Furthermore, the Sociodemographic and Clinical Data Form, the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and the Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (FMPS) were applied to all participants in the study. Results: There was a statistically remarkable correlation between the FMPS total score and the T3 level (r = -0.47, P = .004), and between the BAI and the T3 level (r = -0.41, P = .011). Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the levels of anxiety, health anxiety and somatosensory amplification in patients who presented with the clinical manifestation of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) without electromyography findings. Materials and Methods: Patients who applied to the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation outpatient clinic, respectively, and were diagnosed with CTS with clinical findings were included in the study. The patients who were determined to have no evidence of conduction loss in EMG were evaluated by using Short Health Anxiety Inventory (HAI-18), SomatoSensory Amplification Scale (SSAS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ). Results: A total of 111 participants were included in the study, of whom 56 were patients and 55 were healthy control subjects. There was no significant difference between the patient and control groups in terms of age, gender, and body mass index (BMI). A statistically significant relationship was observed between these scales and the VAS, BCTQ symptom-severity and BCTQ function status in the positive direction. Conclusion: In our study, it was shown that the patient group showed higher anxiety, health anxiety and somatosensory amplification characteristics, and these features were associated with the severity of the CTS clinical scales. Objective: Fatigue is a common symptom frequently reported in many disorders but little is known about the prevalence of fatigue in asthma. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of fatigue in asthmatic patients, the effect of fatigue on asthma quality of life and the relationship between fatigue and anxiety/depression Materials and methods: This prospective cross‐sectional study was conducted in Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Immunology and Allergic Diseases outpatient clinic from June 2019 to December 2019. Fatigue was assessed using the Checklist Individual Strength‐Fatigue (CIS‐Fatigue), psychological distress was assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and quality of life were assessed using the Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (AQLQ). Results: In the present study, a total of 168 patients are included with an average age of 43.8 ± 4.3 years. Nearly 64.8% of patients had controlled asthma and (35.2%) patients had uncontrolled asthma. Fatigue (CIS‐Fatigue ≥ 27 points) was detected in 62.6% of patients and associated with asthma‐related quality of life, asthma control, dyspnea, depression and anxiety (P < 0.05). However, the degree of lung function impairment and asthma severity were not associated with fatigue. Conclusions: Fatigue as a symptom is common in asthmatic patients and correlates with asthma‐related quality of life, asthma control, dyspnea, depression and anxiety. The current exploratory study addressed a lack of prospective research examining college wrestlers' eating attitudes and behaviors, and the impact of weight loss on their levels of anxiety and depression over the course of a competitive season. Male and female college wrestlers from a small college in the Midwest completed measures of their eating attitudes and behaviors and levels of anxiety and depression (EAT, BAI, and BDI, respectively) during the beginning, middle, and end of their competitive wrestling season. The wrestlers' eating attitudes and levels of anxiety and depression were highest at the beginning of the season, when weight loss was highest. Their attitudes, anxiety, and depression significantly improved throughout the course of the season as their reported weight loss decreased. They rarely engaged in unhealthy eating habits but did use exercise to control their weight. These findings contradict previous cross-sectional research and suggest that college wrestlers' approaches to weight loss may not be as unhealthy as many people believe them to be. Information support regarding safe and effective weight loss/maintenance approaches and strategic program planning would help support the performance, health, and well-being of college wrestlers. Future research should continue to use prospective designs in order to better understand the eating attitudes and behaviors and the psychological impact of weight loss on college wrestlers over the course of a competitive season. Objective: To evaluate the severity of depression and anxiety among patients of burns and correlate depression and anxiety with areas of body involved in burns. Study Design: A cross-sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: The departments of Psychiatry and department of Plastic Surgery, Combined Military Hospital Multan, from Oct 2019 to Mar 2020. Methodology: Through consecutive sampling, 56 patients of burns reporting to burns unit were assessed for anxiety and/ or depression based on the diagnostic criteria of International Classification of Diseases version 10. Symptom severity was assessed using Beck Depressive Inventory for depression and Beck Anxiety Inventory for anxiety. Descriptive statistics like mean with standard deviation was calculated for age. Frequency along with percentages was calculated for sociodemographic variables, Anxiety and depression. Results: Depression was present among 30 (53%) of participants out of which 16 (53.5%) had mild, 11 (37.9%) had moderate while only 3 (12.5%) had severe depression. Anxiety was seen among 50 (89%) of participants out of which sixteen (32.1%) had mild, 26 (51.7%) had moderate while 8 (16%) had severe anxiety. Significant correlation existed among the major area involved in burn with both anxiety and depression (p<0.01). Conclusion: There is a very high prevalence of anxiety and depression among patients of burn. Significant positive correlation existed between the level of anxiety and the areas involved in burns. Objective To compare Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) measures of depression and anxiety to the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and explore patterns of selected PROMIS measures in patients undergoing evaluation for Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). Method BDI-II, BAI, and seven PROMIS measures were administered to 163 DBS candidates with diagnoses of Parkinson Disease (PD, n  = 102), Essential Tremor (ET, n  = 45), or Dystonia (n  = 16). Results Elevated PROMIS Depression using BDI-II Crosswalk equivalents predicted elevated BDI-II with 63% sensitivity and 94% specificity. On other PROMIS measures, 69 patients (42%) reported low Physical Function (T ≤ 40) with Pain Interference being the next most frequent abnormal score (n  = 51, 31%). Group differences were present for PROMIS Physical Function, Sleep Disturbance, and Pain. Conclusions These preliminary findings provide initial support for PROMIS Depression to assess mood disturbance in DBS candidates, and characterize other PROMIS measures in DBS candidates including group differences reflecting disease specific contribution to Quality of Life. Background & Objective: The overall estimated prevalence of chronic migraine is 0.7%–5.1%, leading to a social, emotional, and economic burden. Published data have shown the short-term efficacy of greater occipital nerve block in chronic migraine. This study aimed to assess the midterm clinical outcomes of four sessions of ultrasound-guided bilateral greater occipital nerve (GON) block at the C2 level. In addition, it evaluated the factors that may be associated with clinical success. Methods: This was a single-center retrospective analysis. Demographic data, pre-procedural Beck Anxiety and Depression Inventory (BAI/BDI) scores, headache frequency in a month, headache days in a month, mean headache attack duration (hours), mean pain intensity (Visual Analog Scale 0–100 mm), Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS) grades, and Headache Impact Test—6 (HIT-6) levels at baseline and at 1-, 3-, and 6-month visits were evaluated. A reduction of 30% in headache days in a month was considered to represent clinical success. Results: Headache frequency, headache days, mean headache attack duration, mean pain intensity, MIDAS grades, HIT-6 levels, and medication overuse improved at 1-, 3-, and 6-month visits compared to the baseline (p < .001). There was no statistically significant correlation between clinical success at 6 months and age, disease duration, baseline attack duration, pain severity, MIDAS grades, HIT levels, BDI scores, and BAI scores (p = .279, .193, .160, .826, .068, .207, .389, and .076, respectively). Conclusion: Clinical improvement, reduction in disability and impact of headache, and even transformation to episodic migraine occurred up 6 months after four sessions of GON block at the C2 level in patients with chronic migraine. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) causes major socioeconomic problems worldwide. In the United States, nearly three-quarters of patients with TBI have mild TBI (mTBI). 32% of these patients may develop dizziness. In this study, we analyzed the factor structure of the traditional Chinese version of the DHI and evaluate the differences in DHI factors between dizziness and nondizziness groups. In total, 315 patients with mTBI, comprising 158 with self-reported dizziness and 157 without dizziness, were recruited from three hospitals. The responses for Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) demonstrated between-group differences. The Chinese DHI had internal validity and had four factors that differed from the English version (3 aspects). The group effects for the physical subscale remained significantly different even after adjustments in the propensity score model. For the Chinese version, two of four factors remained significantly different in the effects between self-reported dizziness and nondizziness groups. The factors of our Chinese DHI differed from those of the original English version of DHI. After adjustments using the propensity score model, the physical subscale demonstrated significant differences between the self-reported dizziness and nondizziness groups. Background: Fear of falling (FOF) is a serious problem in Idiopathic Parkinson's Disease (IPD) which increases mortality and affects Health Related Quality of Life (HRQoL).Objective: To evaluate the effect of FOF on HRQoL in IPD.Methods: 84 controls and 87 IPD patients were compared by means of Fall Efficacy Scale (FES), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Activities-specific Balance Confidence Scale (ABC Scale), Impact Of Events Scale-Revised (IES-R), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Parkinson Disease Specific Quality of Life Scale (PDQ-39). Then, patients were divided into two subgroups such as patients with FOF (Group 2a) and patients without FOF (Group 2b) by FES. Groups were compared in terms of BBS, ABC Scale, IES-R, BDI, BAI, PDQ-39. Independent factors affecting HRQoL were measured.Results: FOF was higher in IPD patients than controls. Female sex, previous falls, off periods, hallucinations, urge incontinence were significantly higher in Group 2a. However, RBD, dyskinesia, daytime somnolence and FOG were not different in IPD patients whether they have FOF or not. FOF was mostly correlated to disability level and disease severity. In addition, UPDRS and FOF were found to be independent factors affecting HRQoL in IPD.Conclusions: Clinicians should be aware that FOF can be detected in IPD patients, who are female, depressed or anxious, who had more severe disease with off periods, urge incontinence, hallucinations and previous falls. The association of non-motor symptoms (NMSs) with fall-related factors in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) remains to be further elucidated in the early stages of the disease. Eighty-six patients with less than 5 years of the onset of PD were retrospectively enrolled in the study. We assessed potential fall-related risk factors including (1) a history of falls during the past year (faller versus non-faller), (2) the fear of falling (FoF), and (3) the freezing of gait (FoG). Different types of NMSs were measured using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), the Parkinson's disease Fatigue Scale (PFS), and the Scales for Outcomes in Parkinson's disease—Autonomic dysfunction (SCOPA-AUT). The faller group (37.2%) showed higher scores for BDI, BAI, PFS, and SCOPA-AUT, compared to the non-faller group. From logistic regression analyses, the prior history of falls was related to the gastrointestinal domain of SCOPA-AUT, FoF was associated with BAI, and gastrointestinal and urinary domains of SCOPA-AUT, and FoG was linked to BAI and gastrointestinal domain of SCOPA-AUT. Aim: Anterior capsulotomy (AC) is one of the last therapeutic options for obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) refractory to conservative treatments. Several forms of cognitive dysfunction have been identified after assessment of neuropsychological outcomes in OCD patients; however, few studies focused on cognitive changes in OCD patients after surgery. In the present study, we evaluated the effects of AC on cognitive performance and mood status in patients with refractory OCD. Methods: A total of 12 patients underwent bilateral AC between 2012 and 2019 at our institution. The patients (n = 12, female : male 5:7; mean age 39.7 years; duration ≥5 years) were assessed before and 6 months after intervention. The diagnosis of treatment‐refractory OCD was based on recommended criteria for surgical treatment. Patients were assessed using a neuropsychological battery and questionnaires focused on anxiety–depressive symptomatology. The Yale–Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale was administered as a measure of severity of OCD symptoms. Results: We detected a significant decrease of OCD, and anxiety and depressive symptomatology assessed by Yale–Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale, Beck Depression Inventory, and Beck Anxiety Inventory (P < 0.05) 6 months after AC in eight patients, and a partial decrease in four patients. Four patients underwent repeated AC with more pronounced improvement achieved after the first procedure. We did not detect decline in cognitive performance in any patients, but did find better visual memory performance (P < 0.05). Objective: The Patient Health Questionnaire-4 (PHQ-4) has been used for screening owing to ease of use and brevity. In this study, we developed the Korean version of the PHQ-4 and tested its validity. Methods: One hundred sixteen new adult outpatients at the Department of Psychiatry of the Korea University Ansan Hospital participated in the study. We simultaneously administered other depression/anxiety scales: the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression, the Hamilton Anxiety Scale, the Beck Depression Inventory, and the Beck Anxiety Inventory. Results: The mean PHQ-4 score was 6.52 (standard deviation = 3.45). Cronbach's α was 0.792, and the intraclass correlation coefficient of test and 2-week interval retest was 0.827 (p < 0.01). The Pearson correlation coefficients between the PHQ-4 total score and other depression/anxiety scales were all over 0.6. Confirmatory factorial analysis showed acceptable convergent validity and reliability but questionable discriminant validity for some model fit values. Conclusion: The Korean version of the PHQ-4 has sufficient internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and construct validity, but its two-factor structure showed incompleteness. However, we suggest that it should be used as a brief screening measure for common psychiatric distress that warrants further detailed assessment, but not to separately assess the severity of depression and anxiety symptoms. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate caregivers of children with urinary incontinence in terms of the caregiving burden and its associated manifestations. Methods: Caregivers of children who are being treated for urinary incontinence secondary to neurogenic and non-neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (LUTD) were evaluated for caregiver burden (Zarit score), depression (Beck Depression Inventory [BDI]), and anxiety (Beck Anxiety Inventory [BAI]). Additionally, children were evaluated for dysfunctional voiding score. All scores were statistically analyzed for correlation with and relation to the caregiver's emotional status. Results: Zarit score was equal in caregivers of children with neurogenic and non-neurogenic LUTD. BDI score was higher in caregivers of patients with neurogenic LUTD, whereas BAI score was higher in caregivers of patients with non-neurogenic LUTD. In the evaluation performed, considering the etiological difference, Zarit score in the group with non-neurogenic LUTD correlated positively with BAI and BDI scores. In the neurogenic bladder group, Zarit score correlated with BDI score. Conclusion: It is important not only in psychiatric patients, but also in those with other chronic disease processes, to evaluate the mental status of caregivers and to support them in dealing with the problem. Background: Opioid dependence is an increasing public health problem all over the world. Patients with opioid dependence have to receive methadone maintenance therapy (MMT) as replacement therapy for years or even for their entire life. Acupuncture as a kind of therapy has been used to treat substance dependence for many years. Jin's three-needle acupuncture (JTN), a type of acupuncture technique, has been applied to treat various diseases for several decades. However, JTN as an acupuncture technique has not been used to treat patients receiving MMT. Therefore, we designed a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture as adjunctive therapy for patients receiving MMT.Methods/design: This study is a parallel-arm, randomized controlled trial that aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture as adjunctive therapy for patients receiving MMT. A total of 140 eligible participants who range in age from 18 to 60 years and fulfil the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition (DSM-V), for opiate dependence will be enrolled into this study. All eligible participants will be randomly assigned to the acupuncture group or routine group in a 1:1 allocation ratio. Participants who are enrolled in the acupuncture group will receive MMT and JTN treatment for 30 min per session. Meanwhile, those who are assigned to the routine arm will receive MMT only. All 18 sessions of JTN treatment will be delivered over 6 weeks (3 per week) and followed by a 4-week follow-up period. The primary outcome measure will be the visual analogue scale (VAS) for drug craving and the daily consumption of methadone (DCOM). Secondary outcome measures will include the urine test for opioid use, the 36-item Short Form Survey (SF-36), the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II) and Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI). VAS, DCOM, BAI, BDI-II and the urine test for opioid use will be evaluated at baseline, the second week, the fourth week, the sixth week and the tenth week. Background/Aim. Recent investigations have established a significant correlation between melanoma and quality of life, as well as anxiety and depression in these patients. In prognosis of melanoma, the most important is the stage in which it is diagnosed. The objective of the study was to analyze the quality of life, anxiety and depression in patients with a diagnosis of melanoma at different stages of the disease. Methods. In our cross-sectional study, 40 consecutive patients with melanoma, diagnosed and treated at the Department of Dermatology and Venerology, Military Medical Academy in Belgrade during the period from October to November 2015, were included. Twenty respondents were in stages I and II (localized disease) and 20 respondents in the stage IV (distant metastases). We used European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ 30), Beck anxiety inventory (BAI) and Beck depression inventory (BDI). The statistical analysis included parametric and non-parametric descriptive statistics. Results. In patients with stages I and II of the disease, anxiety scores were higher in comparison to those in patients with the stage IV (37.5 vs. 14.5, respectively; p < 0.05), but depression was more pronounced (6 vs. 2.5, respectively; p < 0.05) in patients with the IV stage of the disease. There were statistically significant differences in all segments of quality of life between patients with stages I and II and those with the stage IV of the disease. The global quality of life was significantly worse in patients with the IV stage (33.5 vs. 83), the symptomatology was more pronounced (78.5 vs. 0) and the functioning was significantly worse (31 vs. 85) in relation to patients with stages I and II (p < 0.01) for all segments of quality of life. Conclusion. Anxiety and quality of life decrease, while depression increases with melanoma stages. The need for adequate social and family support as well as psychological assistance in order to achieve better coping with the illness are necessary in patients with melanoma. Further studies are needed for monitoring of anxiety, depression and quality of life from the moment of diagnosis of the disease over time, as well as the impact of new treatment modalities on these parameters. Introduction: Obesity is a multifactorial disease that is increasing in developing countries. People with obesity suffer from quality of life (QoL)-related health problems. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of gastric bypass surgery on three aspects of QoL, anxiety, and depression among patients with obesity. Method: This is a cross-sectional study on all patients with obesity referred to Sina Hospital during the three months of Summer 2016. Data collection was done by means of the Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Anxiety Inventory, and SF-36 Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using paired t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient using IBM SPSS 20.0 software. The significance level was considered as 5%. Results: The mean score of the QoL questionnaire and its dimensions in patients with obesity before and three months after surgery was significantly different (p<0.001). Depression and anxiety of the patients also significantly decreased compared to the pre-operation (p<0.001). There was a significant correlation between decreased anxiety and depression and improvement in the physical and mental health of patients after the operation (p<0.001). Conclusion: Gastric bypass surgery leads to improved QoL, decreased anxiety, and depression in patients with obesity. Trichotillomania is a psychiatric disorder characterised by compulsive pulling out of one's hair resulting in hair loss, which is included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5th edition category 'obsessive-compulsive disorder and related disorders'. Behavioural therapy and some medications are suggested for the treatment of trichotillomania, though these are not effective for all patients. Therefore, new treatment options are needed. Five female patients diagnosed with trichotillomania applied low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) over bilateral supplementary motor area for 3 weeks. Baseline and after rTMS, patients were given Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Anxiety Inventory and Massachusetts General Hospital Hair Pulling Scale to evaluate the severity of disorder at baseline and post-rTMS. In this case series, three of five patients with trichotillomania obtained a substantial benefit from treatment, while one patient obtained a partial symptom reduction. The last patient experienced a mild increase in severity of disease after rTMS treatment. rTMS treatment can be effective in some patients with trichotillomania and can be a promising option in treatment of trichotillomania. Albinism is an inherited condition that may cause mental challenges in individuals. The aim of this study was to investigate the psychiatric distress that individuals with albinism experienced, the level of emotional impact caused by albinism on the quality of life and self-esteem. Twenty individuals with albinism, 20 individuals with vitiligo, 20 healthy controls included to the study. Participants were administered Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Coopersmith's Self-Esteem Inventory (CSEI), World Health Organization Questionnaire on Quality of Life: Short Form (WHOQOL-BREF). BDI, BAI scores of individuals with albinism were significantly higher. The physical health, psychological, social relationship domain scores of the individuals with albinism were significantly lower than in healthy controls. Individuals with albinism had lower scores on Environment domain scores were lower than both those with vitiligo and healthy controls. The physical health, psychological, social relationship domain scores were negatively correlated with BDI; the physical health and environment domain scores were negatively correlated with BAI scores in albinism group. The CSEI scores of individuals with albinism were significantly lower than in healthy controls. According to our findings, the higher levels of depression and anxiety, lower levels of self-esteem, and quality of life indicate psychosocial distress among the individuals with albinism. Background/aim: Epilepsy is a common chronic neurological problem that impairs daily activities, functionality, and quality of life. Childhood traumas (CTs) are known to be critical factors in the onset or development of many psychiatric and medical disorders. They also play a critical role in the development of temperament and personality. This study aimed to investigate the association between CTs and common temperament patterns and features seen in epilepsy patients. Materials and methods: The study included 38 patients who were diagnosed with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME) and volunteered to participate in the study. In addition to the sociodemographic form and questions on disease features, Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis I Disorders, Temperament Evaluation of Memphis, Pisa, Paris and San Diego Questionnaire (TEMPS-A), Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) were administered to all participants. In the present study, a cut-off value of 35 was used for the CTQ scale. The patients with CTQ scores lower than 35 (50%, n = 19, Group 1) and the patients with CTQ scores above 35 (50%, n = 19, Group 2) were compared. Results: The comparison of TEMPS-A and its subscale scores in the JME patients in the groups with CTQ scores above or below a cut-off value detected significant differences between the groups in depressive and irritable temperament scores. The mean BDI scores were also different between the two groups. Furthermore, a significant positive correlation was detected between the disease duration, anxiety, and depression scores in the JME patients. A significant relationship was detected between the emotional neglect subscale score of the JME patients and the BDI scores. A significant positive correlation was found between the total disease duration, BDI, and BAI. Significant moderate-level relationships were found between the BDI score and irritable, depressive, cyclothymic, and anxious temperaments and between the BAI score and irritable, depressive, cyclothymic, and anxious temperaments. Objective: It is known that the risk of anxiety disorders and depression in infertile women increases and their quality of life deteriorates. Temperamental characteristics are considered as predictors of mood disorders. The aim of this study was to investigate temperamental characteristics in infertile women and their effects on depression and anxiety levels, and the quality of life, and to reveal the differences and level of relationship compared to healthy women. Method: Fourty-four female patients with primary infertility and 30 healthy female controls were included in this study. Temperamental characteristics of the participants were assessed with Temperament Evaluation of Memphis, Pisa, Paris and San Diego-Autoquestionnaire version (TEMPS-A). Depression and anxiety severity were evaluated with Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). To evaluate the quality of life, Short Form 36 (SF-36) health survey questionnaire was also applied. Results: Hyperthymic temperament scores were higher in infertile women than the control group (p=0.001). BDI scores were positively correlated with depressive and cyclothymic temperament scores, and BAI scores were positively correlated with depressive and anxious temperament scores. A negative correlation was found between hyperthymic temperament and BAI and BDI scores. Hyperthymic temperament scores were positively correlated with both physical and mental subdimension scores of the quality of life scale. Conclusion: In this study, hyperthymic temperament in infertile women was shown to be protective against anxiety and depression and it also improves the quality of life. Background: Systemic inflammation is emerging as an important factor in the etiology of psychiatric disorders such as depression and anxiety. Therefore, the inflammatory potential of the diet may also be an etiological factor for these conditions, and this may be estimated by calculating the dietary inflammatory index (DII®) score. We aimed to investigate the association between DII score and incidence of depression and anxiety among a representative sample in northeastern Iran. Methods: This cross-sectional study undertook in a sub-sample of 7083 adults aged 35 to 65 years recruited as part of Mashhad stroke and heart atherosclerotic disorder (MASHAD) cohort study population, and after excluding subjects with incomplete data. All participants completed the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II), and a validated 65-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Logistic regression was used to evaluate the association between DII score and depression/anxiety score. Results: Of the study participants, 37.1% (n = 2631) were found to have mild to severe depression, and 50.5% (n = 3580) were affected by mild to severe anxiety. After adjusting for confounding factors, in women, the third (OR: 1.41, 95% CI: 1.06–1.88, p-values< 0.05) and fourth quartiles (OR: 1.37, 95% CI: 1.03–1.83, p-values< 0.05) of DII score were associated with increased risk of a high depression score compared to the first quartile of DII score. Conclusion: There was a significant association between DII score and severe depression among women but not men in this Iranian population. Background and Objectives: Intolerance of uncertainty (IU) is a transdiagnostic structure that plays an important role in developing and maintaining symptoms of emotional disorders. The current study was aimed to investigate the mediational role of IU and its components in reducing symptoms of emotional disorders. Method: This was a double-blind randomized clinical trial. Based on the Beck anxiety inventory and Beck depression inventory 26 individuals were selected. They were randomly assigned into two groups of control and treatment (n=13) using random number generator 3.1.v software. The treatment group received 20 one-hour sessions of Unified Protocol (UP) for the transdiagnostic treatment of emotional disorders. Beck depression inventory, the Beck anxiety inventory, and Intolerance of uncertainty scale were performed in pre, post and three months follow-up. Data were analyzed by SPSS-20 software. Results: After controlling the effect of IU, the results of one-way analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) showed a significant reduction in the difference between the two groups (P<0.05); which means that IU can be considered as a mediator of reductions in anxiety and depression in UP. The results of the stepwise regression analysis indicated that prospective IU and inhibitory IU could explain 61.4% and 8.2% of variances in anxiety scores, respectively. In predicting changes in depression score, only inhibitory IU could explain depression variance (43.3%). Discussion: The best predictor of the changes in the anxiety and depression are, respectively, prospective IU and inhibitory IU. Conclusion. Studies of symptoms after concussion have been focused heavily on athletic and military populations; generalizability to "civilians" has not recently been demonstrated. We selected cognitive symptoms as an important target to assess because of impact on school and employment. We evaluated cognitive complaints in a highly symptomatic (Rivermead Post-Concussion Symptoms Questionnaire [PCSQ], mean [M] = 29.5) civilian sample (n = 100; age: M = 41.4; 36 male/64 female; days post-injury: range 14–154, M = 51.4) of consecutive referrals to a concussion specialty clinic. The Behavior Rating of Executive Functions-Adult version (BRIEF-A) was used to assess subjective cognitive symptoms. Independent variables were prior neurologic and psychiatric history, current neurological symptoms, objective neuropsychological tests and several measures of depression (Beck Depression Inventory, Second Edition [BDI2]), anxiety (Beck Anxiety Inventory), and stress (Post-Traumatic Stress Checklist-Civilian form). No demographic characteristic, injury measure, or past or current neurological history had any association with cognitive symptoms. Prior psychiatric history (57% of patients) was associated with abnormal BRIEF-A. Cognitive tests were overall in the average range, with only mild and sporadic associations with BRIEF-A elevations. All psychological measures showed significant associations with BRIEF-A elevations. Regression analyses for the BRIEF-A revealed depression was the significant contributor (BDI2, β = 0.73) with prior psychiatric history (β = 0.16) and age (β = 0.14) accounting to a lesser extent. In this civilian cohort, subjective cognitive symptoms appear to be due to psychological distress (in particular, depression) and prior psychiatric history more than actual cognitive impairment or other presenting symptoms. Aim To determine the frequency of ferritin deficiency in individuals with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and to evaluate the association of ferritin level with depression, anxiety, sleep quality, and physical functioning. Methods This cross-sectional study, conducted from 2016 to 2017, compared the frequency of ferritin deficiency between 100 non-anemic fibromyalgia patients and 100 nonanemic individuals without FMS. Serum ferritin level of <30 ng/mL indicated iron deficiency. FMS patients filled out demographic questionnaire, Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, and Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index. Results Median serum ferritin level was 20.95 ng/mL. A total of 64% of patients and 42% of controls had iron deficiency. Beck Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores were not associated with ferritin levels. FMS patients with poor sleep quality had significantly higher Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Anxiety Inventory, and Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire scores (P < 0.05). In individuals with poor sleep quality, lower ferritin levels also correlated with higher Beck Depression Inventory scores (r = -0.277, P < 0.05). Sleep quality was not significantly associated with age, body mass index, duration of diagnosis, and serum ferritin levels. Conclusions Patients with fibromyalgia syndrome have a rather high prevalence of non-anemic iron deficiency. Background/aim: The multidimensional evaluation of patients with chronic neck pain is important for planning the treatment program. The aim of this study was to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Neck Bournemouth Questionnaire (NBQ). Materials and methods: The internal construct validity of the NBQ was examined by the fit of the data to the Rasch measurement model. External validity of the NBQ was evaluated by testing for expected associations of Rasch transformed NBQ score with the corresponding variables through the process of convergent validity. The reliability of the NBQ in terms of both internal consistency and test-retest reliability was assessed by the person separation index (PSI) and differential item functioning (DIF) by time effect. Results: It was determined that the questionnaire has 2 factors. None of the items of Factor 1 (F1) and Factor 2 (F2) showed DIF. The reliability of F1 (Cronbach's alpha = 0.89, PSI = 0.87) and F2 (Cronbach's alpha = 0.77, PSI = 0.87) was good with Cronbach's alpha and PSI. There was a good correlation between NBQ/F1 and the Neck Disability Index (NDI) (r = 0.673) and Neck Pain and Disability Scale (NPDS) (r = 0.709). Also, there was a correlation between NBQ/F2 and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) (r = 0.552) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) (r = 0.410). Background: Models of collaborative care and consultation liaison propose organizational changes to improve the quality of care for people with common mental disorders, such as anxiety and depression. Some literature suggests only short-term positive effects of consultation liaison on patient-related outcomes, whereas collaborative care demonstrates both short-term and long-term positive effects. To our knowledge, only one randomized trial has compared the effects of these models. Collaborative care was superior to consultation liaison in reducing symptoms of depression for up to 3 months, but the authors found no difference at 9-months' follow-up. The Collabri Flex Trial for Depression and the Collabri Flex Trial for Anxiety aim to compare the effects of collaborative care with those of a form of consultation liaison that contains potential contaminating elements from collaborative care. The trials build on knowledge from the previous cluster-randomized Collabri trials.Methods: Two randomized, investigator-initiated, parallel-group, superiority trials have been established: one investigating the effects of collaborative care vs consultation liaison for depression and one investigating the effects of collaborative care vs consultation liaison for generalized anxiety, panic disorder and social anxiety disorder at 6-months' follow-up. Participants are recruited from general practices in the Capital Region of Denmark: 240 in the depression trial and 284 in the anxiety trial. The primary outcome is self-reported depression symptoms (Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II)) in the depression trial and self-reported anxiety symptoms (Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI)) in the anxiety trial. In both trials, the self-reported secondary outcomes are general psychological problems and symptoms (Symptom Checklist 90-Revised), functional impairment (Sheehan Disability Scale) and general well-being (World Health Organization-Five Well-Being Index). In the depression trial, BAI is an additional secondary outcome, and BDI-II is an additional secondary outcome in the anxiety trial. Objective To provide further convergent validity on the Personal Impact of Epilepsy Scale (PIES) Spanish version for use in Hispanics with epilepsy. Participants and Method This study included 90 patients (22 Hispanic and Spanish speaking - HSS, 30 Hispanic and English speaking – HES, and 38 non-Hispanic and English speaking – NHES) who were diagnosed with epilepsy and referred by their epileptologist for a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation that, in addition to cognitive measures, also included the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and PIES in English or Spanish- depending on the participant's primary language. The PIES was created with subscales to measure the effect of seizures, adverse effects of treatment, and comorbidities such as mood disorders on quality of life. We compared scores on the PIES subscales in English and Spanish to determine equivalence. We further examined if language of administration moderated the relationship between PIES subscale scores and depression/anxiety through nonparametric bootstrapping. Results There were no significant demographic or clinical differences between the 3 groups examined. ANOVA contrast of mean scores on all PIES subscales between HSS, HES and NHES groups did not reach significance (Seizures F [2,88] =.06 , p = -.93; Medication use F[2,88] = 1.95, p =.14, Comorbidity F[2,88] =.64, p =.52, and total PIES F[2,88] =.19, p =.83). The relationships between PIES and BDI-II/BAI scores were not significantly moderated by language of administration. Conclusions Our data suggest clinical equivalency between the English and Spanish versions of the PIES. Furthermore, the relationships between PIES subscales and the BDI-II/BAI were not significantly changed by language of administration. These findings indicate that the Spanish PIES appears to have good convergent validity with the original English version and can be useful in the assessment of quality of life in HSS patients. Background: Psychiatric disorders (depression / anxiety) are linked to coronary artery disease (CAD). Coronary slow flow (CSF) is a relatively common form of CAD with the same underlying mechanisms that are attributed to many anatomic and pathophysiologic factors. However, the relationship between psychiatric disorders and CSF is less well-established; and this is the aim of this study. Methods: This cross-sectional observational study was conducted on the first 50 consecutive patients diagnosed with CSF by elective coronary angiography (CAG). They were compared with another 50 consecutive patients showing normal coronaries by CAG. Beck Anxiety Inventory and Beck Depression Inventory were used for assessment. CSF was diagnosed by coronary angiography “Thrombolysis In Myocardial Infarction” frame count. Lipid profile was obtained for all patients. Results: Traditional risk factors (male gender, smoking, total cholesterol, low-density lipoproteins and triglycerides) were higher in the CSF group. Depression and anxiety scores were also higher in the CSF group. On multivariate analysis, male gender, depression and high triglycerides were the only significant independent predictors of CSF. A significant correlation existed between CSF and both anxiety and depression scores. Both scores were also significantly higher in multivessel vs single vessel affection. Conclusion: Psychiatric depression, male gender and high triglycerides are highly associated with CSF in patients undergoing elective CAG. There is a significant correlation between CSF severity and the severity of both anxiety and depression. Purpose: The aim of this study is to compare the levels of anxiety and depression according to the presence and absence of heart disease in individuals aged 18-25 years who apply to the Cardiology Outpatient Clinic for palpitations or chest pain. Materials and Methods: Persons who 18-25 years old applied to Başkent University Adana Dr. Turgut Noyan Research and Application Center Cardiology Department for palpitaion or chest pain were taken into the study. A total of 114 people, including 55 males and 60 females, were included in the study. Fourty-four people those in the same ages who came as a companion were taken to the control group. Participants were asked to fill in the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) by themselves. Results: In the case group, 77 patients did not have any heart disease. Thirty-seven people were diagnosed with a heart disease. The BAI and BDI scores of the groups were compared. The BDI and BAI scores of the groups who presented with chest pain and palpitation were significantly higher than the control group. Conclusion: The anxiety and depression symptom levels of the patients who were diagnosed and not diagnosed with cardiac disease in 18-25 year olds who applied to the cardiology policlinic were more than the control group. Objective: Cognitive outcomes post mTBI are well-researched, but the relationship between executive functioning and psychiatric outcomes have received much less attention. This study explored emotional outcomes of individuals who sustained a mTBI and the potential relationship to executive functioning. A research study by Zainal & Newman (2021) found that older adults with severe depression and anxiety experienced increased inflammation, which potentially resulted in reduced executive functioning. mTBI is also associated with inflammation – potentially providing a compound effect or interaction. Additional research is needed to clarify the potential compound impact of mTBI and depression and anxiety might have upon cognition. Method: 185 individuals were extracted from an archival clinical database of neuropsychological evaluations of individuals noting deficits following mTBI. Executive functioning was measured using Trail Making Test B (TMT-B). Emotional distress was assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). A Multiple Linear Regression was used to assess the impact of emotional distress (BAI and BDI) upon executive functioning performance (TMT-B) in this population. Results: Regression analysis identified a relationship between emotional distress upon executive functioning that approached significance (p = 0.057; r^2 = 0.031). Conclusions: These findings are consistent with previous literature suggesting a modest relationship between emotional distress and executive functioning – this time in a sample with mTBI population. Objective: An important subject in evaluation of the efficacy of treatments is to examine how the intervention is effective and to identify the consequences of that treatment. In this regard, the current study investigates the role of emotion regulation as the mediator of the treatment outcomes of therapy using the Unified Protocol (UP) for transdiagnostic treatment of emotional disorders. Method: This article describes a double-blind randomized clinical trial. A sample of 26 individuals was selected based on cut-off scores for the Beck Depression Inventory and Beck Anxiety Inventory and their final diagnoses were confirmed with the Anxiety Disorders Interview Schedule for DSM-IV (ADIS-IV). The sample was randomly divided into two groups: control and treatment (13 patients each). The treatment group received 20 one-hour UP sessions. The Beck Depression Inventory, the Beck Anxiety Inventory, and the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale were administered at two stages, pre-treatment and post-treatment. Results: The UP reduced anxiety and depression in patients through improvement in emotion regulation. Furthermore, the results showed that the difficulty engaging in goal-directed behavior and non-acceptance of emotional response subscales were capable of predicting 62% of variance in anxiety scores. In turn, two subscales, difficulty engaging in goal-directed behavior and lack of emotional clarity, predicted 72% of variance in depression scores. Conclusion: Emotion regulation can be considered as a potential mediating factor and as predictive of outcomes of transdiagnostic treatment based on the UP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Cancer patients are particularly vulnerable to psychological problems. The purpose of the present study was to compare differences in psychological difficulties, including depression and anxiety, between cancer patients and noncancer patients. This study assessed the differences in depressive and anxiety symptoms between patients with and without cancer. Materials and Methods: Participants included 219 patients at The Cancer Center, Dongnam Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences, Busan, Korea, who reported depressive or anxiety symptoms between April 2014 and April 2016. Patients were categorized into cancer and noncancer groups based on medical histories showing a diagnosis of any type of cancer. The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) were used to evaluate psychological distress at each patient's first visit. Patients' charts were reviewed for clinical data, including BDI and BAI scores and duration of cancer treatment, and for demographic data such as age and sex. Results: The results showed that patients in the cancer group experienced greater discomfort related to somatic symptoms; higher BDI subscale scores were related to work difficulties, insomnia, loss of appetite, somatic worries (fatigue), and loss of libido compared with patients in the noncancer group. The BAI subscale scores for fear of the worst happening, feeling unsteady, feeling terrified or afraid, a sense of choking, fear of dying, and feeling scared were higher in patients with than in those without cancer. Conclusion: High levels of depressive symptoms related to somatic discomfort and anxiety symptoms related to fear of cancer were associated with considerable psychological distress in patients with cancer diagnosis and treatment. Background/aim: Stigma can be defined as a negative perception of chronically ill patients by their relatives or by society, or a similar self-perception by the patients themselves. We aimed to validate the Turkish version of the Neuroquality of Life (Neuro-QoL)-Stigma Scale for neurologic diseases. Materials and methods: Forms were filled out by a total of 152 randomized patients under regular follow-up in the outpatient clinic (29 polyneuropathy, 25 epilepsy, 23 stroke, 24 tension-type headache, 28 multiple sclerosis, 27 Parkinson disease). The forms consisted of the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), WHOQOL-BREF quality of life scale, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), the General Self-Efficacy (GSE) scale, and the Neuro-QoL-Stigma scale. Results: The internal consistency of the Neuro-QoL-Stigma scale showed Cronbach’s α coefficients of 0.95 for all groups. The mean scores of the stigma scales were 33.42 ± 13.91 (min–max: 24–87). There were strong negative correlations between high stigma scores and GSE-T, MSPSS-T, and WHOQOL-BREF, and a positive correlation with the BDI and BAI. Conclusion: The Turkish version of Neuro-QoL-Stigma has satisfactory content validity and high internal consistency.
