Microplastic pollution in agricultural soil threatens soil quality and human health which has attracted extensive attention worldwide. However, there is no uniform standard for microplastic extraction methods and the identification of microplastic component in different typical agricultural soils. In this study, an artificial simulation adding experiment was used in eight typical agricultural soil samples in China. The aim of the study was to use different methods for extraction, comparing the extraction rates of four microplastics and their influence on polymer identification using ATR- FTIR. The two separate methods were oil extraction (water + oil and saturated NaCl solution + oil), and density method (saturated NaCl solution). The four types of microplastics include polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), and polyethylene (PE). We found that the oil extraction method effectively extracted four types of microplastics in agricultural soils, which varied from 83.33% to 100.00%. However, the extraction rate of PET under the oil extraction method and PP under the density method from Southern laterite area was lower than other soils. The presence of iron and aluminum ions influenced the extraction rates of microplastics in the Southwest laterite area. With the increase in microplastic density, the extraction rates of the density method decrease. The oil extraction methods with the cleaning of residual oil were recommended for the higher density microplastics. The density method was recommended for the lighter microplastics in agricultural soils. However, these two extraction methods were not ideal to extract the microplastics from the Southern laterite area and the appropriate extraction methods for laterite need to be further studied in the future. Our results can provide technical support for the extraction treatment and scientific microplastic pollution control of typical agricultural soils with different erosion areas. Soil microorganisms play crucial roles in the stability of the global carbon pool, particularly in permafrost peatlands that are highly sensitive to climate change. Microtopography is a unique characteristic of peatland ecosystems, but how microtopography affects the microbial community structures and their functions in the soil is only partially known. We characterized the bacterial and fungal community compositions by amplicon sequencing and their abundances via quantitative PCR at different soil depths in three microtopographical positions (hummocks, flats, and hollows) in permafrost peatland of the Greater Xing'an Mountains in China. The results showed that the soil of hummocks displayed a higher microbial diversity compared to hollows. Microtopography exerted a strong influence on bacterial community structure, while both microtopography and soil depth greatly impacted the fungal community structure with variable effects on fungal functional guilds. Soil water content, dissolved organic carbon, total phosphorus, and total nitrogen levels of the soil mostly affected the bacterial and fungal communities. Microtopography generated variations in the soil water content, which was the main driver of the spatial distribution of microbial abundances. This information stressed that the hummock–flat–hollow microtopography of permafrost peatlands creates heterogeneity in soil physicochemical properties and hydrological conditions, thereby influencing soil microbial communities at a microhabitat scale. Our results imply that changes to the water table induced by climate warming inducing permafrost degradation will impact the composition of soil microbes in peatlands and their related biogeochemical functions, eventually providing feedback loops into the global climate system. Objective: To identify the distinct profiles of work alienation among Chinese nurses, examine the demographic factors associated with profile memberships, and then explore the relationship between latent categories of work alienation and job embeddedness. Methods: A cross-sectional survey of 523 nurses was conducted from July to August 2023. Latent profile analysis (LPA) was performed to identify distinct profiles of nurses based on three aspects: powerlessness, helplessness, and meaningfulness. A multinomial logistic regression analysis was conducted to explore the predictors of profile membership. Hierarchical regression analysis was carried out to examine the association between profile memberships and job embeddedness. Results: Three subgroups of work alienation of nurses were identified: 23.1%, 57.8%, and 19.1% in the low work alienation group (profile 1), the moderate work alienation group (profile 3), and the high work alienation group (profile 2), respectively. Nurses with college degrees were more likely to be grouped into moderate work alienation. Nurses who did not work night shifts were more likely to have low or moderate levels of work alienation. Nurses earning 2,000–3,000 and 3,001–5,000 yuan per month were likely to be in the low work alienation group. The different categories of work alienation significantly predicted job embeddedness among nurses (ΔR2 = 0.103, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Work alienation has an important impact on clinical nurses' job embeddedness. Nursing managers should pay attention to the differences in individual work alienation status and adopt reasonable management strategies to improve the level of job embeddedness, ensure the quality of care, and reduce nursing turnover. Background: The dietary nutritional status of pregnant women is critical for maintaining the health of both mothers and infants. Food exchange systems have been employed in the nutritional guidance of patients in China, although their application in the dietary guidance of healthy pregnant women is quite limited. This study aimed to develop a novel food exchange system for Chinese pregnant women (NFES-CPW) and evaluate the relative validation of its application. Methods: NFES-CPW covers approximately 500 types of food from ten categories and has more elaborate food portion sizes. It established a recommendation index for guiding food selection and used energy, water content, and protein as the exchange basis to balance the supply of energy and important nutrients throughout pregnancy. Furthermore, dietitians used the NFES-CPW and traditional food exchange system to generate new recipes based on the sample recipe. There were 40 derived recipes for each of the two food exchange methods. The food consumption, energy, and key nutrients of each recipe were calculated, and the differences between the two food exchange systems were compared using the Wilcoxon rank sum test or the Chi-square test. Results: The results revealed that compared to those derived from traditional food exchange system, the NFES-CPW derived recipes had a better dietary structure, as evidenced by the intakes of whole-grain cereals, beans excluding soybeans, potatoes, fruits, fish, shrimp and shellfish, as well as eggs (P < 0.05), which were more conducive to reaching the recommended range of balanced dietary pagoda. After calculating energy and nutrients, although these two food exchange systems have similar effects on the dietary energy and macronutrient intake of pregnant women, the intake of micronutrients in NFES-CPW derived recipes was significantly higher than that from the traditional food exchange system, which was more conducive to meeting the dietary requirements of pregnant women. The outstanding improvement are primarily vitamin A, vitamin B2, folic acid, vitamin B12, vitamin C, calcium, iron, and iodine (P < 0.05). Moreover, when compared to recipes obtained from the traditional food exchange system, the error ranges of energy and most nutrients were significantly reduced after employing the NFES-CPW. This study utilized a combination of FLIC(1D3.2C) and FLUENT(2021R2) software to optimize the primary air distribution along the grate and the performance of a straw briquette combustion furnace of a 7 MW unit in China used to produce hot air for drying grain. Three air distribution modes, namely front-enhanced, uniform, and rear-enhanced modes, were analyzed to determine their effect on the flue gas components above the grate, the temperature field in the furnace, and the nitrogen oxide concentration at the furnace outlet. The results of the calculations showed that the NOx emissions for the front-enhanced, uniform, and rear-enhanced modes were 133.5 mg/Nm3, 104.4 mg/Nm3, and 76.6 mg/Nm3, respectively. It was found that the rear-enhanced mode can expand the biomass drying, devolatilization, and combustion zone, thus improving the furnace combustion performance and decreasing NOx emissions. Pollutant types are increasing along with the rapid development of society and economy. Some emerging pollutants from chemicals have begun to appear and endanger public and ecosystem health. However, the research and development of emerging pollutant monitoring technology is still in its infancy, with no complete monitoring system in place. This makes it impossible to access and identify the spatial pattern of emerging pollutants. Therefore, this paper reviews the existing quantitative research results on four common emerging pollutants in China's water environment—namely, endocrine disruptors, brominated flame retardants, perfluorinated compounds, and microplastics—extracts the quantitative monitoring results of emerging pollutants in the case studies, and outlines the spatial distribution characteristics of emerging pollutants in the water environment. The results show that the emerging pollutants have a large distribution area that has covered most of China. The level of pollution from emerging pollutants correlates with the level of economic development and the pollution level in economically developed regions such as the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta, and the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region is significantly higher than in other regions. Land-use systems (LUSs) and soil types (STs) are strongly related to factors that influence soil degradation and carbon (C) loss. However, the way in which land use and soil type affects the soil organic C (SOC) pools, and soil aggregation in the Sanjiang Plain, has not been thoroughly investigated. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate soil physic–ochemical properties, soil aggregates, and C management index (CMI) in three different LUSs (grassland, dryland, and paddy field) under two STs (meadow soil and albic soil) of the Sanjiang Plain in northeast China. A total of 60 composite soil samples were collected for laboratory analyses. The results were as follows: soil properties were affected by LUS and ST, especially soil chemical properties; ST had no significant effect on soil aggregates but significantly affected its SOC content, while LUS had a significant effect on soil aggregates (p < 0.01), except for small macro-aggregates (2–0.25 mm); the mean weight diameter (MWD) and SOC in meadow soil was significantly different under different land uses, with grassland being the highest and dryland the lowest. However, there was no significant difference in albic soil. The heterogeneity of grassland, dryland, and paddy field showed that different LUSs had particular effects on SOC and its active components because LUS had significant effects on C pool index (CPI) and CMI, but ST and its interaction had no significant effects on CPI and CMI. Overall, the results showed that LUS was an important factor affecting CMI in the Sanjiang Plain, rather than ST, and the paddy field CMI was optimal in the Sanjiang Plain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Among various types of breakfast in China, Cantonese morning tea (Yum Cha) is unique in its form and feature. Morning tea is a Cantonese tradition of morning activity, originated in the Qing dynasty. After years of change, it has evolved to the current form, serving an assortment of small dishes (dim sum) alongside Chinese tea. The classification of Chinese tea is based on the colors, shapes, aroma, and fermentation degree. Several types of dim sum dishes in Guangdong are categorized according to the region, ingredients selection, taste, and cooking methods. Yum Cha has a unique etiquette that is different from the folk cultures in other areas. Morning tea plays an essential role in influencing the dietary patterns and eating habits of Cantonese people. In addition, morning tea supports social interactions and connections of daily human life, providing a practical and acceptable channel for old friendships to nurture and new bonds to build. As the largest petroliferous basin in northeast (NE) China, Songliao Basin preserves continuous Cretaceous sedimentary‐volcanic records, providing an excellent opportunity to recover the palaeo‐environment. The Yingcheng Formation in the Songliao Basin contains ample gas reservoirs that attract widespread attention. Whereas the timing, petrogenesis and geodynamic mechanism of the volcanic rocks in the Yingcheng Formation are still controversial, which largely constrain our understanding of the formation and evolution of the Songliao Basin. Here, we present an integrated investigation of zircon U–Pb ages and Hf isotope, as well as whole‐rock elements and Sr‐Nd isotopes data for a suite of rhyolites of Yingcheng Formation from the SK2 Borehole of NE China. Zircon U–Pb age dating results of nine samples have yielded a concentrated age of ~110 Ma. These Yingcheng rhyolites are characterized by high SiO2 (66–78 wt%) and alkali (Na2O + K2O = 7.80–11.70 wt%) content, high 10000*Ga/Al (1.26–3.82, mostly >2.6) and FeOT/(FeOT + MgO) ratios (0.81–0.95), which show geochemical affinities with A‐type rhyolites. They have relatively low Y/Nb (0.69–1.78, average 1.19) and Rb/Nb (1.58–6.52, average 4.34) ratios, suggesting that the Yingcheng volcanic samples belong to A1‐type rhyolites which formed in an intraplate environment. These Yingcheng rhyolites show depleted Nd‐Hf isotopic compositions (εNd(t) = 2.43–4.87 and zircon εHf(t) = 4.22–9.88) comparable with the Early Cretaceous A‐type and I‐type rhyolites in the Songliao Basin, suggesting that they were originated from a juvenile continental crust. They were most likely derived from the partial melting of anhydrous lower crust instead of differentiation of mantle‐derived or mixing with alkaline basaltic magma, due to their low Mg# and absence of the coeval mafic rocks. Combined with the previous studies, A‐type rhyolites in the Yingcheng Formation erupted lasting at least 10 Myr and were widely distributed in the rifts of the Songliao Basin. We propose that the Yingcheng rhyolites were most likely generated from the rollback of the Palaeo‐Pacific Plate in the Early Cretaceous, thus highlighting the significance of the subduction of the Palaeo‐Pacific Plate during the secular evolution of the Songliao Basin. The functional group (FG) system sensu Colin S. Reynolds of freshwater phytoplankton has been widely applied in many aspects of freshwater ecological assessments. However, there is no current consensus as to how and to why some functional coda shows multiple habitat templates in different water bodies. To test whether there are multiple habitat templates for some functional coda in the FG system, we used two mesotrophic deep reservoirs in China as examples, analysing phytoplankton taxonomic and environmental data collected in 4 seasons over two years. Results showed that a large proportion of the indicators had similar habitat templates within the FG system, whilst some species had multiple or different habitat templates according to their niche differentiation. The random forest (RF) model filtered a minimum set of environmental conditions and provided two potential habitat templates for Oocystis lacustris. One explanatory habitat template of clear water provided by the FG system was verified in the Nanwan Reservoir, and the other habitat template of high dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) was found in the Nianyushan Reservoir. Introduction: Timely access to emergency treatment during in-hospital care phase is critical for managing the onset of acute ischaemic stroke (AIS), particularly in developing countries. We aimed to explore in-hospital emergency treatment delay and the relation of door-to-needle (DTN) time to ambulance arrivals vs walk-in arrivals. Methods: Data were collected from 1276 Chinese AIS patients admitted to a general, tertiary-level hospital for intravenous thrombolysis. Information on patients' characteristics and time taken during in-hospital emergency treatment was retrieved from the hospital registry data and medical records. Ambulance arrival was defined as being transported by emergency ambulance services, while walk-in arrival was defined as arriving at hospital by regular vehicle. In-hospital emergency treatment delay occurred when the DTN time exceeded 60 minutes. We performed multivariable logistic regression analysis to explore the association between hospital arrivals (by ambulance vs by walk-in) and treatment delay after adjustment for age, sex, education, marital status, residence, medical insurance, number of symptoms, clinical severity and survival outcome. Results: Over half (53.76%) of patients aged over 60 years. Around one-fifth (20.61%) of patients admitted to hospital through emergency ambulance services, while their counterparts arrived by regular vehicle. Overall, the median time taken from the hospital door to treatment initiation was 86.0 minutes. Patients arrived by ambulance (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 1.744, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.185– 2.566, p = 0.005), had higher socio-economic status (aOR = 1.821, 95% CI = 1.251– 2.650; p = 0.002), or paid out-of-pocket (aOR = 2.323, 95% CI = 1.764– 3.060; p < 0.001) had an increased likelihood of in-hospital emergency treatment delays. Conclusion: In-hospital emergency treatment delay is common in China, and occurs throughout the entire emergency treatment journey. Having a triage pathway involving hospital arrival by ambulance seems to be more likely to experience in-hospital emergency treatment delay. Further efforts to improve triage pathways may require qualitative evidence on provider- and institutional-level factors associated with in-hospital emergency treatment delay. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Multiple studies have proved that participating in sports can effectively reduce adults' depression. This paper provides evidence from China by using the survey data from China Family Panel Studies (CFPS), which contains sport-types, personal characteristics, and CES-D20 depression-scale score data of 33,236 individuals. In addition to the Ordinary Least Squares regression model, we adopt the Two-way Fixed Effect and Propensity Score Matching method to alleviate the endogeneity. The empirical result shows that for every additional time of physical exercise, the depression level drops by an average of 0.152; the depression level of people who participate in sports is significantly lower than that of non-participants by 0.397 points. The lowering effect of physical activity on depression is not linear, and excessive exercise may lead to increased depression. Furthermore, heterogeneity analyses discover that with the increase of age and education, the impact continued to expand. For every increase in physical exercise of the group over 76-year old, the depression level decreased by 0.373 points; while for individuals with primary school education, their depression level decreased only by 0.124 points. Aims: Although community psychiatric rehabilitation plays an important role in returning persons with schizophrenia to the society, many patients in China stay in rehabilitation centers for longer periods of time and subsequently fail to integrate. This study is aimed to explore the underlying causes of this trend and identify possible solutions. Methods: This study used a qualitative descriptive design to examine the persons with schizophrenia who stay in rehabilitation centers for longer periods of time. The researchers conducted semi-structured telephone interviews with the patients recruited through purposeful sampling. The audio-recorded interviews were transcribed in transcripts in Chinese. Thematic analysis was performed using Colaizzi's 7-step method. Results: Most patients believe that they have gained knowledge, improved skills, friendship and social circles through community mental rehabilitation, with the sense of belonging and enriched life strongly attracting them to the rehabilitation centers. They felt that the difficulty of further integration into society is mainly because of social prejudice and rejection. In addition, the activities of community mental rehabilitation meet the needs of social communication, which also hinder patients from further entering the society. Conclusions: Persons with schizophrenia with long-term stay in community mental rehabilitation centers meet their friendship, sense of belonging and social needs by participating in rehabilitation activities. Providing special social opportunity for these patients can get them out of the rehabilitation center. Overall, it is possible for patients to gradually return to society in a collective form. Groundwater is an important resource for domestic use and irrigation in the Yinchuan region of northwest China. However, the quality of groundwater in this region is declining due to human activities, with adverse effects on human health. In order to study the effects of chemical elements in groundwater on human health, the human health risk of drinking groundwater was calculated based on the actual situation in China and on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) model. Moreover, the sensitivity of contaminant exposure in drinking water wells was quantified using Monte Carlo simulation to minimize uncertainty in conjunction with USEPA risk assessment techniques, with the aim to identify the major carcinogenic factors. In addition, Visual Minteq was used to analyze the possible ionic forms of the major factors in the hydrogeological environment of the study area. The results showed that the mean CR values for As were 2.94 × 10−0.5 and 5.93 × 10−0.5 for the dry and rainy seasons, respectively, while for 2018 they were 5.48 × 10−0.5 and 3.59 × 10−0.5, respectively. In parallel, the CR values for children for 2017 were 6.28 × 10−0.5 and 1.27 × 10−0.4, respectively, and 1.17 × 10−0.4 and 7.67 × 10−0.5, respectively, indicating a considerably higher carcinogenic risk for children than for adults. results of the sensitivity analysis of Cr6+ and As using Crystal Ball software showed association values of 0.9958 and 1 for As and 0.0948 and 0 for Cr in the dry and rainy seasons in 2017, and 0.7424 and 0.5759 for As and 0.6237 and 0.8128 for Cr in the dry and rainy seasons in 2018, respectively. Only in the rainy season of 2018, the association values for As were lower than those for Cr, indicating that As is more sensitive to total carcinogenic risk. The results of the visual coinage model analysis showed that among all the possible ionic forms of As, the activity of HAsO42− had the largest logarithmic value and that of H3AsO4 had the smallest value, regardless of pH changes. This indicates that HAsO42− is the ionic form of As with the main carcinogenic factor in the hydrogeological environment of the study area. Therefore, corresponding environmental control measures need to be taken in time to strengthen the monitoring and control of As, especially HAsO42−, in the groundwater of the study area. Leaf blight, caused by Botrytis elliptica (Berk.) Cooke, is a devastating disease that limits the production of Lilium in China and in other countries worldwide. Numerous studies have indicated that plants have evolved sophisticated and effective signal transduction and defense-related pathways in response to pathogen invasion. Recently, particular attention has been given to the action(s) of melatonin in plants in response to biotic stress, and the role of melatonin in plant–pathogen interactions has also been discussed. In this study, RNA-seq was applied to analyze the transcriptomic changes in Lilium leaves that were pre-treated and post-treated with melatonin after B. elliptica infection for 0, 12, 24, 36, and 72 h and then compare those changes with those of the control. Treatment with exogenous melatonin and infection with B. elliptica caused differential expression of a large number of genes in Lilium leaves. KEGG pathway analysis showed that, after melatonin treatment, the defense-related DEGs were mainly enriched in plant–pathogen interactions, plant hormone signal transduction, MAPK signaling pathways, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, and phenylalanine metabolism. RT–qPCR was used to verify the expression changes of 12 DEGs, the results of which were consistent with the RNA-seq analysis results. The expression of DEGs related to the MAPK pathway were significantly different between the MB group and the HB group, suggesting that, via the MAPK signaling cascade, melatonin may play a role in the disease resistance of Lilium to B. elliptica. Drawing on the conservation of resource theory, we examined the effect of perceived overqualification on the creative performance via voice toward peers, and how the peer group perceived overqualification moderates the relationship between perceived overqualification and creative performance. We tested this proposal using three waves of lagged data collected from 206 company employees in Shandong Province, China. The results revealed that peer group perceived overqualification moderated the indirect effects of perceived overqualification on creative performance such that there was positive indirect effect via voice toward peers when peer group perceived overqualification is high and negative indirect effect via voice toward peers when peer group perceived overqualification is low. Introduction: Time-to-treatment window is critical for managing acute ischaemic stroke. The community healthcare practitioners (CHPs) who deliver frontline care in the health system play an important role in stroke prevention and treatment. Methods: A multi-stage sampling design was adopted in Guangdong province, China. A total of 997 CHPs who participated in the survey were divided into two groups (the awareness group vs the unawareness group) according to their knowledge on the time window for stroke management. Logistic regression analysis was performed to explore factors associated with the awareness of "time window". Results: Overall, less than half (49.1%) of CHPs were aware of the time window for stroke management. The proportion of CHPs who were able to recognise stroke symptoms were higher in the awareness group (42.7%) than that in the unawareness group (38.8%). Most CHPs (82.9%) in the awareness group had the knowledge about the effectiveness of intravenous thrombolysis in treating acute cerebral infarction, whereas this was perceived by only less than half (43.6%) of CHPs in the unawareness group. Factors associated with the knowledge of time window for stroke management included participation in cerebrovascular disease management training (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]=4.203, 95% CI: 1.707– 10.348, p=0.002), awareness of the time frame for CT initiation (aOR=5.214, 95% CI: 1.803– 15.078, p=0.002) and for urokinase thrombolysis administration (aOR=11.927, 95% CI: 4.393– 32.382, p< 0.001), accurate perceptions about the target for blood pressure lowering (aOR=4.181, 95% CI: 1.713– 10.207, p=0.002) and blood glucose control (aOR=2.446, 95% CI: 1.019– 5.869, p=0.045), and the familiarity with prehospital stroke management principles (aOR=3.593, 95% CI: 1.383– 9.332, p=0.009). Conclusion: The CHPs need to enhance their ability to address the acute ischaemic stroke onset promptly to provide effective treatment within the beneficial "time window". Plasmodium vivax Merozoite Surface Protein 8 (PvMSP8) is a promising candidate target for the development of multi-component vaccines. Therefore, determining the genetic variation pattern of Pvmsp8 is essential in providing a reference for the rational design of the P. vivax malaria vaccines. This study delves into the genetic characteristics of the Pvmsp8 gene, specifically focusing on samples from the China-Myanmar border (CMB) region, and contrasts these findings with broader global patterns. The study uncovers that Pvmsp8 exhibits a notable level of conservation across different populations, with limited polymorphisms and relatively low nucleotide diversity (0.00023–0.00120). This conservation contrasts starkly with the high polymorphisms found in other P. vivax antigens such as Pvmsp1. A total of 25 haplotypes and 14 amino acid mutation sites were identified in the global populations, and all mutation sites were confined to non-functional regions. The study also notes that most CMB Pvmsp8 haplotypes are shared among Burmese, Cambodian, Thai, and Vietnamese populations, indicating less geographical variance, but differ notably from those found in Pacific island regions or the Panama. The findings underscore the importance of considering regional genetic diversity in P. vivax when developing targeted malaria vaccines. Non departure from neutral evolution were found by Tajima's D test, however, statistically significant differences were observed between the kn/ks rates. Evidence of the potential causal links between long-term exposure to particulate matters (PM, i.e., PM 1 , PM 2.5 , and PM 1–2.5) and T2DM mortality based on large cohorts is limited. In contrast, the existing evidence usually suffers from inherent bias with the traditional a ssociation assessment. A prospective cohort of 580,757 participants in the southern region of China were recruited during 2009 and 2015 and followed up through December 2020. PM exposure at each residential address was estimated by linking to the well-established high-resolution simulation dataset. Hazard ratios (HR s) were calculated using time-varying marginal structural Cox models, an established causal inference approach, after adjusting for potential confounders. During follow-up, a total of 717 subjects died from T2DM. For every 1 μg/m3 increase in PM 2.5 , the adjusted HRs and 95% confidence interval (CI) for T2DM mortality was 1.036 (1.019–1.053). Similarly, for every 1 μg/m3 increase in PM 1 and PM 1–2.5 , the adjusted HR s and 95% CI s were 1.032 (1.003–1.062) and 1.085 (1.054–1.116), respectively. Additionally, we observed a generally more pronounced impact among individuals with lower levels of education or lower residential greenness which as measured by the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). We identified substantial interactions between NDVI and PM 1 (P -interaction = 0.003), NDVI and PM 2.5 (P -interaction = 0.019), as well as education levels and PM 1 (P -interaction = 0.049). The study emphasizes the need to consider environmental and socio-economic factors in strategies to reduce T2DM mortality. DNA methylation is a common epigenetic modification involved in regulating many biological processes. However, the epigenetic mechanisms involved in the formation of floral scent have rarely been reported within a famous traditional ornamental plant Prunus mume emitting pleasant fragrance in China. By combining whole-genome bisulfite sequencing and RNA-seq, we determined the global change in DNA methylation and expression levels of genes involved in the biosynthesis of floral scent in four different flowering stages of P. mume. During flowering, the methylation status in the "CHH" sequence context (with H representing A, T, or C) in the promoter regions of genes showed the most significant change. Enrichment analysis showed that the differentially methylated genes (DMGs) were widely involved in eight pathways known to be related to floral scent biosynthesis. As the key biosynthesis pathway of the dominant volatile fragrance of P. mume , the phenylpropane biosynthesis pathway contained the most differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and DMGs. We detected 97 DMGs participated in the most biosynthetic steps of the phenylpropane biosynthesis pathway. Furthermore, among the previously identified genes encoding key enzymes in the biosynthesis of the floral scent of P. mume , 47 candidate genes showed an expression pattern matching the release of floral fragrances and 22 of them were differentially methylated during flowering. Some of these DMGs may or have already been proven to play an important role in biosynthesis of the key floral scent components of P. mume , such as PmCFAT1a / 1c , PmBEAT36 / 37 , PmPAL2 , PmPAAS3 , PmBAR8 / 9 / 10 , and PmCNL1 / 3 / 5 / 6 / 14 / 17 / 20. In conclusion, our results for the first time revealed that DNA methylation is widely involved in the biosynthesis of floral scent and may play critical roles in regulating the floral scent biosynthesis of P. mume. In this study, the complete chloroplast genome of Acer paihengii, a tree species native to China, was sequenced and assembled through second-generation sequencing. The complete chloroplast genome of A. paihengii is 155,967 bp in length with a typical quadripartite structure, encompassing 130 genes including 85 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. In today's business world, the phenomenon of overqualification is widespread. Organizations need to consider – how to motivate the overqualified employees to utilize their qualifications, for example, promoting creative performance. Based on person-organization (P-O) fit theory, this study explored when and how employees, who feel overqualified can engage in creative performance. Data were collected from 170 supervisor-subordinate dyads of 41 groups in 10 manufacturing companies across two timepoints in China. Results revealed that (1) perceived overqualification is positively related to organizational identification when employee development-oriented organizational culture is strong but negatively related to organizational identification when employee development-oriented organizational culture is weak, (2) organizational identification is positively related to creative performance, (3) the indirect relationship between perceived overqualification and creative performance via organizational identification is moderated by employee development-oriented organizational culture. We provide several theoretical contributions to the overqualification literature and make some suggestions to motivate the overqualified employees to use their surplus qualifications within the organizations. Within the mountain altitudinal vegetation belts, the shift of forest tree lines and subalpine steppe belts to high altitudes constitutes an obvious response to global climate change. However, whether or not similar changes occur in steppe belts (low altitude) and nival belts in different areas within mountain systems remain undetermined. It is also unknown if these, responses to climate change are consistent. Here, using Landsat remote sensing images from 1989 to 2015, we obtained the spatial distribution of altitudinal vegetation belts in different periods of the Tianshan Mountains in Northwestern China. We suggest that the responses from different altitudinal vegetation belts to global climate change are different. The changes in the vegetation belts at low altitudes are spatially different. In high-altitude regions (higher than the forest belts), however, the trend of different altitudinal belts is consistent. Specifically, we focused on analyses of the impact of changes in temperature and precipitation on the nival belts, desert steppe belts, and montane steppe belts. The results demonstrated that the temperature in the study area exhibited an increasing trend, and is the main factor of altitudinal vegetation belts change in the Tianshan Mountains. In the context of a significant increase in temperature, the upper limit of the montane steppe in the eastern and central parts will shift to lower altitudes, which may limit the development of local animal husbandry. The montane steppe in the west, however, exhibits the opposite trend, which may augment the carrying capacity of pastures and promote the development of local animal husbandry. Drawing on social information processing theory and a career development perspective, we examined the effect of transformational leadership on the perceived overqualification via career growth opportunities, and how the supervisor–subordinate guanxi moderates the relationship between transformational leadership and perceived overqualification. We tested this proposal using three waves of lagged data collected from 351 company employees in the Yangtze River Delta region in China. The results revealed that transformational leadership had an indirect effect on perceived overqualification through career growth opportunities, and supervisor–subordinate guanxi moderated the positive association between transformational leadership and career growth opportunities. In addition, the mediating effect of transformational leadership on perceived overqualification through career growth opportunities was stronger when the level of supervisor–subordinate guanxi was high and weaker when it was low. The silver pomfret, Pampus argenteus is a major economically important marine fish in China. However, P. argenteus is sensitive to many stress factors and susceptible to injury. This problem could be resolved using anesthesia. We determined the lowest effective dose (LED) of tricaine methanesulfonate (MS‐222) and assessed the longest safe deep anesthesia time and effect after chasing. P. argenteus juveniles were exposed to six concentrations of MS‐222 (10, 25, 50, 75, 100, and 125 mg/L); LED was established at 75 mg/L. The juveniles were exposed to different deep anesthesia times (4, 7, 10, 12, and 15 min) at 75 mg/L; the longest safe deep anesthesia time under LED was 10 min. Finally, the juveniles were randomly divided into four groups: Control (no treatment at all) group (CG), Draining stress without MS‐222 group (DG), draining + chasing stress with MS‐222 (MS + DCG), and draining + chasing stress without MS‐222 (DCG). Plasma cortisol levels in the DCG, MS + DCG, DG, and CG groups were 38.739 ± 1.065 (highest), 25.083 ± 0.587, 28.644 ± 0.612, and 22.620 ± 0.836 ng/ml (lowest). When superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH), malondialdehyde (MDA), and catalase (CAT) activities of the DCG group were compared with those of the other three groups, a significant increase (p <.05) was observed. However, the DG and MS + DCG groups showed no significant increase (p >.05) in SOD, MDA, GSH, and CAT activities. The MS + DCG group showed significantly (p <.05) higher GSH, SOD, CAT, and MDA activities than the control before stress. Before aquaculture treatment, HSP70, HSP90, GR1, and GR2 mRNA levels showed no significant differences (p >.05), whereas HSP70, HSP90, GR1, and GR2 mRNA levels in the DCG group increased sharply. GR1 and GR2 mRNA levels in the MS + DCG group also increased significantly, whereas HSP70 and HSP90 mRNA levels showed no significant differences. The new adoption of healthcare information technology is costly, and effects on healthcare performance can be questionable. This nationwide study in China investigated the efficient performance of healthcare information technology and examined its spatial correlation. Panel data were extracted from the Annual Investigation Report on Hospital Information in China and the China Health Statistics Yearbook for 2007 through 2015 (279 observations). Stochastic frontier analysis was employed to estimate the technical efficiency of healthcare information technology performance and related factors at the regional level. Healthcare information technology performance was positively associated with electronic medical records, total input, and cost of inpatient stay, while picture archiving and communication systems and net assets were negatively related. Local Indicators of Spatial Association showed that there existed significant spatial autocorrelation. Governmental policies would best make distinctions among different forms of healthcare information technology, especially between electronic medical records and picture archiving and communication systems. Background: The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has posed stress on the health and well-being of both Chinese people and the public worldwide. Global public interest in this new issue largely reflects people's attention to COVID-19 and their willingness to take precautionary actions. This study aimed to examine global public awareness of COVID-19 using Google Trends.Methods: Using Google Trends, we retrieved public query data for terms of "2019-nCoV + SARS-CoV-2 + novel coronavirus + new coronavirus + COVID-19 + Corona Virus Disease 2019" between the 31st December 2019 and the 24th February 2020 in six major English-speaking countries, including the USA, the UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. Dynamic series analysis demonstrates the overall change trend of relative search volume (RSV) for the topic on COVID-19. We compared the top-ranking related queries and sub-regions distribution of RSV about COVID-19 across different countries. The correlation between daily search volumes on the topic related to COVID-19 and the daily number of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 was analyzed.Results: The overall search trend of RSV regarding COVID-19 increased during the early period of observing time and reached the first apex on 31st January 2020. A shorter response time and a longer duration of public attention to COVID-19 was observed in public from the USA, the UK, Australia, and Canada, than that in Ireland and New Zealand. A slightly positive correlation between daily RSV about COVID-19 and the daily number of confirmed cases was observed (P < 0.05). People across countries presented a various interest to the RSV on COVID-19, and public awareness of COVID-19 was different in various sub-regions within countries.Conclusions: The results suggest that public response time to COVID-19 was different across countries, and the overall duration of public attention was short. The current study reminds us that governments should strengthen the publicity of COVID-19 nationally, strengthen the public's vigilance and sensitivity to COVID-19, inform public the importance of protecting themselves with enough precautionary measures, and finally control the spread of COVID-19 globally. To explore the association between soil selenium levels and the risk of diabetes in Chinese adults aged 35–74 years. Data for this study were derived from the China Chronic Diseases and Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance 2010 survey. Selenium concentrations in soil were obtained from the Atlas of Soil Environmental Background Values in China. A two-level binary logistic regression model was used to determine the association between soil selenium concentrations and the risk of diabetes, with participants nested within districts/counties. A total of 69,332 participants aged 35–74 years, from 158 districts/counties were included in the analysis. Concentrations of selenium in soil varied greatly across the 158 districts/counties, with a median concentration of 0.219 mg/kg (IQR : 0.185–0.248). The results showed that both Quartile 1 (0.119–0.185 mg/kg) and Quartile 4 (0.249–0.344 mg/kg) groups were positively associated with diabetes compared to a soil selenium concentration of 0.186–0.219 mg/kg (Quartile 2), crude odds ratios (OR s) (95% CI) were 1.227 (1.003–1.502) and 1.280 (1.048–1.563). The P values were 0.045 and 0.013, for Quartile 1 and Quartile 4 groups, respectively. After adjusting for all confounding factors of interest, the Quartile 1 group became non-significant, and the Quartile 4 group had an adjusted OR (95% CI) of 1.203 (1.018–1.421) relative to the reference group (Quartile 2), the P values was 0.030. No significant results were seen for the Quartile 3 group (0.220–0.248 mg/kg) compared to the reference group. Resources utilization and trophic structure in aquatic food webs play important roles in the ecosystem stability and functioning. Silver carp (SC, Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) and bighead carp (BC, Hypophthalmichthys nobilis) are intensively stocked in lakes and reservoirs in China and share similar food resources and trophic positions in water bodies. To better understand the ecological roles of SC and BC in natural freshwater, two mesotrophic reservoirs (Nanwan and Nianyushan) were selected to compare resource utilization and the trophic niche of these two fish species. Data analysis using Bayesian mixing model showed that SC was more like a fine particulate organic matter (fPOM) feeder, while BC consumed more coarse particulate organic matter (cPOM) and displayed a higher trophic position in both reservoirs. In contrast, niche breadths represented by the corrected standard ellipse area (SEAC) were essentially the same for SC and BC in Nanwan (SEAC = 6.1 for SC and BC), but much larger for silver carp in Nianyushan (SEAC for SC: 11.6, SEAC for BC: 4.2). The high stocking ratio of SC/BC in Nianyushan was the probable reason for the large SEAC of silver carp, which suggested that silver carp could use more food resources and become more competitive with a higher stocking biomass ratio. Examining the coordination of leaf and fine root traits not only aids a better understanding of plant ecological strategies from a whole‐plant perspective, but also helps improve the prediction of belowground properties from aboveground traits. The relationships between leaf and fine root traits have been extensively explored at global and regional scales, but remain unclear at local scales. Here, we measured six pairs of analogous leaf and fine root traits related to resource economy and organ size for coexisting dominant and subordinate vascular plants at three successional stages of temperate forest swamps in Lingfeng National Nature Reserve in the Greater Hinggan Mountains, NE China. Leaf and fine root traits related to resource acquisition (e.g., specific leaf area [SLA], leaf N, leaf P, root water content, and root P) decreased with succession. Overall, we found strong linear relationships between leaf dry matter content (LDMC) and root water content, and between leaf and root C, N, and P concentrations, but only weak correlations were observed between leaf area and root diameter, and between SLA and specific root length (SRL). The strong relationships between LDMC and root water content and between leaf and root C, N, and P held at the early and late stages, but disappeared at the middle stage. Besides, C and P of leaves were significantly correlated with those of roots for woody plants, while strong linkages existed between LDMC and root water content and between leaf N and root N for herbaceous species. These results provided evidence for the existence of strong coordination between leaf and root traits at the local scale. Meanwhile, the leaf–root trait relationships could be modulated by successional stage and growth form, indicating the complexity of coordination of aboveground and belowground traits at the local scale. Objective: To develop and validate an interactive nomogram to predict healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) in the intensive care unit (ICU). Methods: A multicenter retrospective study was conducted to review 2017 data from six hospitals in Guizhou Province, China. A total of 1,782 ICU inpatients were divided into either a training set (n = 1,189) or a validation set (n = 593). The patients’ demographic characteristics, basic clinical features from the previous admission, and their need for bacterial culture during the current admission were extracted from electronic medical records of the hospitals to predict HCAI. Univariate and multivariable analyses were used to identify independent risk factors of HCAI in the training set. The multivariable model’s performance was evaluated in both the training set and the validation set, and an interactive nomogram was constructed according to multivariable regression model. Moreover, the interactive nomogram was used to predict the possibility of a patient developing an HCAI based on their prior admission data. Finally, the clinical usefulness of the interactive nomogram was estimated by decision analysis using the entire dataset. Results: The nomogram model included factor development (local economic development levels), length of stay (LOS; days of hospital stay), fever (days of persistent fever), diabetes (history of diabetes), cancer (history of cancer) and culture (the need for bacterial culture). The model showed good calibration and discrimination in the training set [area under the curve (AUC), 0.871; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.848–0.894] and in the validation set (AUC, 0.862; 95% CI, 0.829–0.895). The decision curve demonstrated the clinical usefulness of our interactive nomogram. Background: Few studies have reported on the seroprevalence of antibodies against avian influenza A (H9N2) virus and the incidence of these infections in the northern China and among swine workers. Methods: We conducted a serological cohort study among people working with poultry or swine or the general population in Beijing, China. It comprised four cross‐sectional serological surveys in November 2013, April 2014, April 2015, and April 2016. Blood samples collected from the participants were tested for anti‐H9N2 antibodies using a hemagglutination‐inhibition (HI) assay. Multivariable Poisson regression model was then used to compare the person‐month incidence rates for H9N2 viral infections among the three groups, assessed by incidence rate ratio (IRR). Results: In the four cross‐sectional surveys, the highest seroprevalence of anti‐H9N2 antibodies (HI titer ≥ 80) was recorded in the poultry workers (2.77%, 19/685) in April 2016, while the lowest was recorded in the general population (0.09%, 1/1135) in April 2015. The highest incidence density rate for H9N2 infections across the whole study period was recorded among the poultry workers (3.75/1000 person‐months), followed by the swine workers (1.94/1000 person‐months) and the general population (1.78/1000 person‐months). Multivariable analysis showed that the poultry workers were at higher risk (IRR: 2.42, 95% CI: 1.07‐5.48; P = 0.034) of contracting H9N2 virus than the general population. Conclusions: Although the seroprevalence of H9N2 antibodies was low in Beijing, the poultry workers were at higher risk of contracting H9N2 viral infections than the general population. Limited evidence exists regarding the association between ambient temperature and blood pressure (BP) level of pregnant women. To investigate the associations of ambient temperature with maternal BP and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), we studied 105,063 participants in 38 centers of 17 provinces from November 2017 to December 2021. BP was measured with standardized automated digital sphygmomanometers. Ambient temperature was classified into five classes as very hot, moderate hot, mild, moderate cold, and very cold. Generalized linear mixed models were used to investigate the ambient temperature-BP/HDP associations, controlling for multiple covariates. No significant associations of first-trimester ambient temperature with maternal BP and HDP prevalence were observed. Compared with mild temperature, second-trimester very cold and second-trimester moderate cold were statistically associated with the increase of 1.239 mmHg (95% CI: 0.908, 1.569) and 0.428 mmHg (95% CI: 0.099, 0.757) for second-trimester systolic blood pressure (SBP), respectively. Similar trends were also observed in the association between second-trimester cold exposure and second-trimester diastolic blood pressure (DBP), in the association between second-trimester cold exposure and third-trimester SBP/DBP as well as in the association between third-trimester cold exposure and third-trimester SBP/DBP although some estimates were not statistically significant. Furthermore, in the second and third trimester, very cold [second trimester: adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 1.298; third trimester: aOR = 1.236) and moderate cold (second trimester: aOR = 1.208; third trimester: aOR = 1.146) exposures also increased the odds of HDP, and these associations were stronger among participants aged ≥35 years or from North China. The second and third trimesters are the critical exposure windows for ambient temperature exposure-BP/HDP associations. Cyanobacteria blooms in aquaculture ponds harm the harvesting of aquatic animals and threaten human health. Therefore, it is crucial to identify key drivers and develop methods to predict cyanobacteria blooms in aquaculture water management. In this study, we analyzed monitoring data from 331 aquaculture ponds in central China and developed two machine learning models - the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression model and the random forest (RF) model - to predict cyanobacterial abundance by identifying the key drivers. Simulation results demonstrated that both machine learning models are feasible for predicting cyanobacterial abundance in aquaculture ponds. The LASSO model (R 2 = 0.918, MSE = 0.354) outperformed the RF model (R 2 = 0.798, MSE = 0.875) in predicting cyanobacteria abundance. Farmers with well-equipped aquaculture ponds that have abundant water monitoring data can use the nine environmental variables identified by the LASSO model as an operational solution to accurately predict cyanobacteria abundance. For crude ponds with limited monitoring data, the three environmental variables identified by the RF model provide a convenient solution for useful cyanobacteria prediction. Our findings revealed that chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total organic carbon (TOC) were the two most important predictors in both models, indicating that organic carbon concentration had a close relationship with cyanobacteria growth and should be considered a key metric in water monitoring and pond management of these aquaculture ponds. Purpose – This paper aims to investigate the role of Sun Tzu’s significant strategies on the relationship between the institutional environment and international performance of Chinese born global firms, a type of small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) characterized by the company’s limited resources and its early efforts to internationalize. Design/methodology/approach – The methodology is based on a multi-case analysis of interviews conducted with four chosen born global firms, coupled with public database and Web site searches. Through the use of qualitative methods, propositions were developed. Findings – This paper provides insights regarding how the institutional environment, both formal and informal, has a strong positive relationship with born global firm’s international performance. Phosphorus fertilization is employed in some reservoirs to increase fish production. To clarify whether silver carp regulate phosphorus (P) concentration or if fertilizing leads to phytoplankton blooms, a 6-week experiment was conducted with 18 enclosures in Nanwan Reservoir, central China. Treatments were three levels of P concentration (low: 45 μg/L; medium: 90 μg/L; high: 180 μg/L) with or without silver carp stocking (10 g/m3). The effect of silver carp stocking on phytoplankton community changed with P fertilization in the water column. No significant fish effect was observed on total phytoplankton biomass at the low P level, while the chlorophyllaconcentration, total phytoplankton biomass, and biomass of phytoplankton > 30 μm were enhanced significantly by silver carp at the medium P level. In addition, at the medium P level, the biomass of Bacillariophyta was significantly greater, whereas the biomass of Chlorophyta was significantly lower in the enclosures with silver carp stocking. Potentially, silver carp enhanced the total phytoplankton biomass by nutrient recycling. Zooplankton had a weak grazing efficiency and had limited effects on control of phytoplankton biomass at the three P levels. The 6-week experiment confirmed that P fertilization could consistently cause greater fish productivity with phytoplankton biomass increasing at the same time. We therefore propose a mechanism for the observed relationship between silver carp stocking and phytoplankton. Under the condition of ambient fish density (10 g/m3), silver carp could not control phytoplankton biomass with phosphorus fertilization; instead, the fish may have promoted phytoplankton growth via nutrient recycling. Silver carp seem to have only a weak effect on the phytoplankton community without P fertilization. To determine the effects of eco-factors on the regeneration of arrow bamboo in giant panda habitat, a field study was conducted in the Baozuo and Gonggangling Nature Reserves, Sichuan Province, China. A total of 183 quadrats (10 m×10 m) and 717 small quadrats (1 m×1 m) were investigated within the study site. Bamboo seedling density was used as an indicator of natural regeneration. Twelve factors were measured, which included topography and forest factors (elevation, slope aspect, slope degree, slope position, canopy cover, and shrub cover) and microhabitat factors (upper vegetation cover, herb cover, litter layer cover, moss cover, moss thickness, and dead bamboo density). A One-Way ANOVA was used to analyze the effects of topography and forest factors on seedling density, and a GLM (Generalized Linear Model) procedure was performed to examine the relationship between seedling density and microhabitat factors. The results indicated that elevation and canopy cover had highly significant effects on seedling density: bamboo seedling density was highest and showed the best regeneration at middle elevations (2800-3000 m) and under medium to medium-high canopy cover. Moss thickness, moss cover, and dead bamboo density were the most important microhabitat factors influencing the natural regeneration of bamboo: seedling density increased with increasing moss cover and moss thickness and decreased with increasing dead bamboo density. Export-focused small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in China face a number of barriers to success, two primary ones being the liability of foreignness and resource scarcity. In order to transcend these challenges and be able to survive/prosper in the hypercompetitive international market, where players include large resourceful multinational organizations with experience in varied national contexts, these firms need to develop different organizational capabilities. In this paper, we specifically examine the role of a key organizational capability – information technology (IT) capability – and its different dimensions, in determining performance of export-focused SMEs in China. Our study reveals that IT capability has a positive impact on such firms' performance. This finding indicates the need for their owners/managers to invest in IT capability. Further, the study also highlights specific sub-dimensions of IT capability that export-focused Chinese SMEs should (or should not) develop, so as to derive maximum performance-related gains for the minimum amount spent on IT. Abstract: In this paper, we compare the ionogram-derived total electron content (ITEC) obtained at the low latitude station Hainan (geographical coordinates 19.4°N, 109.0°E; Dip=22.8°), China with that derived from GPS signals produced by the International GPS Services for Geodynamics (TECigs) and the TEC data obtained by the altimeter on TOPEX satellite when it passed over nearby Hainan. We also compare them with the results produced by the current International Reference Ionosphere model (IRI2001) TECiri. Data used for the present comparison study are both the daily hourly and monthly median values for the 12 months of the descending solar activity year 2003. Our study showed that (1) in general ITEC is in agreement with TOPEX-TEC, although there are exceptions; (2) the total electron contents produced by all techniques (TECigs, ITEC and TECiri) can reproduce quiet well the remarkable semi-annual variation behavior of the total electron content; (3) the variation trends of ITEC and TECigs are generally in good agreement, however during nighttime to pre-sunrise hours ITEC is systematically lower than TECigs, whereas during daytime hours around local noontime ITEC is usually larger than TECigs. The absolute difference between ITEC and the TECigs (|▵TEC1|=|ITEC-TECigs|) of the monthly median data is usually under the limit of 10–15 TECu (1 TECu=1016 el/m2) during the diurnal variation, except for the time period 09–16UT(∼17–24LT) in September and October when the value of |▵TEC1| is larger than 15 TECu, fluctuating between about 15–25 TECu; (4) during nighttime hours TECiri is generally larger than TECigs, whereas during daytime hours TECiri is generally smaller than TECigs except for the months June and July when TECiri is slightly larger than TECigs; (5) the difference between ITEC and TECigs (ΔTEC1) and that between TECiri and TECigs (ΔTEC2) are almost reverse in their positive/negative signs at a given local time, however, the magnitudes of the maximum absolute values of |▵TEC1| and |▵TEC2| are comparable. Abstract: The Chapman scale height H T at F2 peak, which can be used to construct a topside electron density profile model, is deduced from ground-based ionograms. In this paper, H T values obtained from ionograms recorded at the low latitude station Hainan (19.4°N, 109.0°E), China is used to study its diurnal, seasonal, and solar activity dependence. The correlations between H T and the F2 peak parameters foF2 and hmF2, the best-fitted IRI-parameter B0, and the ionospheric slab thickness τ are also studied. Data used for the present study covered a 2-year time period from March 2002 to February 2004. The present study showed that: (1) Diurnal course of the H T has two peaks, with the main one occurring at daytime hours around noontime and the other occurring before sunrise. The pre-sunrise peak is most obvious for winter compared with that for summer and equinox. The minimum values of H T occur around midnight and sunrise hours. The time of occurrence of the sunrise minimum is earliest for summer and latest for winter. (2) H T shows a clear annual variation with largest daytime values occurring in summer and smallest values in winter. (3) H T shows strong solar activity dependence, with the daytime value of H T decreasing with decreasing solar activity. (4) H T is strongly correlated with the bottomside F2 layer thickness parameter B0 and the ionospheric slab thickness τ. The high correlation between H T and B0 parameter suggests the possibility to construct the topside electron density profile model based on the B0 parameter previously established for the International Reference Ionosphere. Discogobio laticeps is a small native economic fish species in southern China. Here, we reported the complete mitochondrial genome of D. laticeps for the first time. It was 16,596 bp in length and composed of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, a light strand origin of replication (OL), and a control region (D-loop). The overall base composition was 32.3% of A, 15.2% of G, 26.4% of T, and 26.1% of C, with a slight A + T content of 58.7%. Maximum-likelihood phylogenetic tree suggested that D. laticeps had the closest evolutionary relationship with Discogobio longibarbatus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Novel posa-like viral genomes were first identified in swine fecal samples using metagenomics and were designated as unclassified viruses in the order Picornavirales. In the present study, nine husavirus strains were identified in China. Their genomes share 94.1–99.9% similarity, and alignment of these nine husavirus strains identified 697 nucleotide polymorphism sites across their full-length genomes. These nine strains were directly clustered with the Husavirus 1 lineage, and their genomic arrangement showed similar characteristics. These posa-like viruses have undergone a complex evolutionary process, and have a wide geographic distribution, complex host spectrum, deep phylogenetic divergence, and diverse genomic organizations. The clade of posa-like viruses forms a single group, which is evolutionarily distinct from other known families and could represent a distinct family within the Picornavirales. The genomic arrangement of Picornavirales and the new posa-like viruses are different, whereas the posa-like viruses have genomic modules similar to the families Dicistroviridae and Marnaviridae. The present study provides valuable genetic evidence of husaviruses in China, and clarifies the phylogenetic dynamics and the evolutionary characteristics of Picornavirales. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

After the implementation of the ultra-low emissions regulation on the coal-fired power plants in China, the problem of the excessive ammonia-slipping from selective catalytic reduction (SCR) seems to be more severe. This paper analyzes the operating statistics of the coal-fired plants including 300 MW/600 MW/1000-MW units. Statistics data show that the phenomenon of the excessive ammonia-slipping is widespread. The average excessive rate is over 110%, while in the small units the value is even higher. A field test data of nine power plants showed that excessive ammonia-slipping at the outlet of SCR decreased following the flue-gas process. After most ammonia reduced by the dust collector and the wet flue-gas desulfurization (FGD), the ammonia emission at the stack was extremely low. At same time, a method based on probability distribution is proposed in this paper to describe the relationship between the NH3/NOX distribution deviation and the De–NOX efficiency/ammonia-slipping. This paper also did some original work to solve the ammonia-slipping problem. A real-time self-feedback ammonia injection technology using neural network algorithm to predict and moderate the ammonia distribution is proposed to decrease the NH3/NOX deviation and excessive ammonia-slipping. The technology is demonstrated in a 600-MW unit and works successfully. The excessive ammonia-slipping problem is well controlled after the implementation of the technology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Visceral adiposity has been reported to play a key role in hypertension compared with other measurements of regional or general obesity. The aim of current study was to evaluate the relationship between visceral fat reduction and changes in blood pressure in a group of overweight or obese Chinese individuals. Methods: An observational study was conducted with 168 participants (ChiCTR-OOC-17012000). Body composition, blood parameters and blood pressure were assessed at the beginning and end of the intervention. Males and females were categorized separately into quartiles according to changes in visceral fat during the intervention. Multiple linear regression models were used to assess the associations of changes in systolic and diastolic blood pressure with changes of visceral fat area, adjusted for potential confounders. Results: Changes in visceral fat was significantly associated with systolic and diastolic blood pressure in men for systolic (β = 0.234, 95% CI: 0.103, 0.365; p = 0.001) and diastolic blood pressure (β = 0.237; 95% CI: 0.127, 0.346; p <0.001), but not in women after adjustment for the same potential confounders for systolic blood (β = − 0.003, 95% CI: − 0.260, 0.255; p = 0.984) and diastolic blood pressure (β = 0.101, 95% CI: − 0.072, 0.273; p = 0.249). Conclusions: A positive association was observed between reduction in visceral fat and improvements in both systolic blood and diastolic blood pressures in males but not females in a 12-week meal replacement intervention. Environmental degradation and resource scarcity are serious challenges faced by global rice production. Although rice production is crucial to ensure global food security, it is also one of the principal sources of greenhouse gas (GHG) and reactive nitrogen (Nr) emissions. Exploring rice-cropping systems with a low environmental footprint and high grain yield and economic benefits is a crucial strategy to improve the sustainability of rice production. Here, life cycle assessment was used to compare the performance of middle-season rice (MR), double-season rice (DR) and ratoon rice systems (RR) based on farmer-reported data in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River of China. The average annual grain yields of DR, MR, and RR were 13.68, 8.96 and 11.97 t ha−1, respectively. Although RR produced 12.5% lower grain yield, it had 41.2% lower global warming potential (GWP) and 33.8% smaller eutrophication potential (EP) than DR, which resulted in lower greenhouse gas intensity (GHGI) and reactive nitrogen intensity (NrI). The lower GWP and EP in RR were mainly attributed to lower agricultural inputs, smaller CH 4 and N 2 O emissions and less Nr losses. Compared with MR, RR had higher GWP and EP, but significantly higher grain yield (33.6%) in RR contributed to lower GHGI and similar NrI. In all three cropping systems, CH 4 emissions and NH 3 volatilization had the highest contributions to GWP and EP, respectively. Compared with the other two cropping systems, RR exhibited the highest net economic income (NEI), benefit-cost ratio and eco-efficiency. The International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) is the most frequently used community empirical model. The latest version IRI2016 provides three options for the F2 peak height hmF2: AMTB2013, SHU-2015, and BSE-1979. In this paper, we used the hmF2 data derived by the ionosondes at Mohe, Beijing, Wuhan and Sanya ranging from year 2007 to 2016 to assess the performance of these three options in the model. The results show that the variability of the observed hmF2 versus local time, seasons and levels of solar activity could be reproduced well by the three options. However, the SHU-2015 option performs best at these four stations, followed by BSE-1979, and the AMTB2013 option is worst. Generally, the AMTB2013 and BSE-1979 options overestimate the hmF2 values, while the SHU-2015 option mainly underestimates the hmF2 values. This is the first evaluations of the three IRI2016 hmF2 options by manually scaled ionosonde data over China area to our knowledge. Overall, we recommend the usage of SHU-2015 hmF2 option over China region when using IRI2016 model in terms of hmF2 calculation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
