Rolling element bearings are widely used in aero engines, high-speed trains, precision machine tools, and other technical fields due to their high rotational accuracy and strong carrying capacity. With the development of rotating machinery in the direction of high speed, the working conditions of rolling element bearings are becoming more and more harsh, resulting in thermal problems that will seriously affect the mechanical properties of the bearing and the stability of the rotor system. In this paper, the four-degrees-of-freedom quasi-static model of cylindrical roller bearings was established based on the elastohydrodynamic lubrication theory combined with slicing technology. The local thermal approach and the thermal resistance network method were adopted to calculate the frictional heat generation and the transient temperature field of bearings. So the thermal-mechanical coupling model was obtained considering the correction of the thermal effect. On this basis, the influences of temperature on the vibration of the bearing-rotor system were researched. Finally, the temperature and stiffness of the bearings under various operating conditions were discussed. The coupling theory of thermal characteristics and mechanical properties of such bearing-rotor systems was improved. Practical Applications: Cylindrical roller bearings generally play a supporting role in rotating machinery and are widely used on high-speed occasions. For example, aero engines work under high-speed conditions, and high speeds in mechanical systems often bring serious thermal problems. As one of the core components, the spindle bearing must be able to overcome such a complex working environment. In this paper, cylindrical roller bearings and bearing-rotor systems are mathematically modeled for this feature in order to study their thermal and dynamic characteristics. The lubricating medium of the aerostatic spindle is gas, with relatively low rigidity, which is easy to cause rotor offset and additional vibration under the action of external load, thus affecting the processing accuracy of the spindle. To solve the problem of unbalanced vibration of the spindle, a new type of controllable radial aerostatic bearing is designed by combining piezoelectric ceramics, which use the inverse piezoelectric effect of piezoelectric ceramics to squeeze the air film to produce corresponding control force, and the radial unbalanced vibration of the spindle is suppressed. A bearing–rotor–piezoelectric ceramic coupling model was established, and the control method of feedforward combined with feedback was used to reduce the hysteresis characteristics of piezoelectric ceramics. On this basis, the sliding mode controller of the entire system, and through research, it is found that the sliding mode controller based on the extended observer has the best vibration suppression effect compared with other sliding mode controllers in the article; this research results can improve the rotation accuracy of the spindle system and the machining accuracy of ultra-precision machine tools. This study aims to investigate the mechanical characteristics of contact between mating surfaces in the state of mixed lubrication, with a specific focus on the distribution of surface asperity heights in mechanical precision machining parts, which deviates from a Gaussian distribution. To achieve this, a normal contact model is developed for mating surfaces experiencing mixed lubrication, incorporating the non-Gaussian contribution nature of surface asperities and accounting for relative motion between mating surfaces. This model allows us to derivate the stiffness information in both solid and liquid domains to comprehend the contact behavior of mating surfaces under mixed lubrication conditions. The investigation results reveal that several key factors including normal load, viscosity, relative motion velocity, and non-Gaussian roughness parameters influence the normal contact stiffness of non-Gaussian rough surfaces in mixed lubrication mating surfaces significantly. These findings provide valuable insights that enhance our understanding of the performance of mating surfaces under mixed lubrication, and serve as a reference for the optimization design of mechanical equipment. The application of elliptical injector will not only increase the atomization quality, but also reduce spray tip penetration, which has the potential to avoid wall wetting. However, so far the research on the effect of elliptical GDI nozzle on impinging spray is seldom reported. In this study, A GDI nozzle with circular and elliptical cross section shapes was employed to study the spray impingement characteristics through VOF-spray one way coupling method. The results revealed that the elliptical spray has shorter penetration as compared to circular spray, and the circular spray impingement time is earlier than the elliptical spray. Additionally, the spray rebound height of the circular spray was larger than that of the elliptical spray at the initial injection progress, while the elliptical spray rebound height became higher at the end of the injection. Furthermore, the elliptical spray impingement wall film mass and area were always smaller as compared with circular spray, and the injection pressure showed a negative influence on wall film mass. Finally, the average film thickness of the spray-wall impingement for an elliptical nozzle is observed to be reduced by 10.3% compared to that of a circular nozzle. Background: Speculum lubrication may help to reduce the pain experienced during Pap-smear collection and hence increase uptake of cervical cancer screening and repeat testing, but there are fears of its interference with cytological results. Aim: To determine and compare the adequacy of cervical cytology smears and the mean pain scores of women undergoing cervical cancer screening with or without speculum lubrication. Methods: This was a randomised controlled study of 132 women having cervical cancer screening at a tertiary hospital in Nigeria. Sixty-six participants were randomly assigned to the 'Gel' and 'No Gel' groups, respectively. Pap smears were collected from each participant with a lubricated speculum ('Gel group') or a non-lubricated speculum ('No Gel group'). The primary outcome measures were the proportion of women with unsatisfactory cervical cytology smears and the mean numeric rating scale pain scores, while the secondary outcome measures were the proportion of women who were willing to come for repeat testing and the cytological diagnosis of Pap-smear results. Results: The baseline socio-demographic variables were similar in both groups. There was no significant difference in the proportion of unsatisfactory cervical smear results between the two groups (13.6% vs. 21.2%, p = 0.359). However, the mean pain scores were significantly lower in the gel group than in the no gel group (45.04 vs. 87.96; p<0.001). An equal proportion of the participants in each group (90.9% vs. 90.9%; p > 0.999) were willing to come for repeat cervical smears in the future. Conclusion: Speculum lubrication did not affect the adequacy of cervical smears but significantly reduced the pain experienced during pap smear collection. Also, it did not significantly affect the willingness to come for repeat cervical smears in the future. The current paper is aimed to investigate the deformability effects of the bearing surface on the lubrication performance of cylindrical journal bearing with finite length under turbulent conditions. The bush is coated with a thin resilient layer with a smooth surface, the radial distortions of which are of the same order of magnitude as the film thickness. The elastohydrodynamic problem is studied under elasticity conditions in accordance with the plain strain hypothesis (Winkler model). The modified Reynolds equation is carried out on the base of the turbulent lubrication model of Hirs (bulk flow model). The partial differential equation is solved numerically by successive over-relaxation technique on a finite difference grid, considering different values of coating materials, lubricant viscosity, and journal speed. The interface is described by dislocation-like condition, i.e., displacement across it is transmitted discontinuously and such discontinuity is controlled by an imperfect index changing from 0 to 1. Based on this interfacial condition, frequency response functions (FRFs) of elastic field of imperfect transversely isotropic coating were derived, which was further used to establish the EHL contact model combined with the lubrication theory. Polymer based additives with long chain of suspended particles in oil retain polarity effect in the presence of couple stresses. Further, at high speed of journal bearing, the oil film experiences substantial agitation due to pressure-viscosity interaction which evolve piezo-viscous dependency of the lubricant. The present article addresses the combined effects of piezo-viscous dependency and couple stresses of lubricant on the characteristics of multi-recessed hybrid journal bearing under misaligned operation. To govern the flow of piezo-viscous-polar lubricant in clearance space of the journal bearing, a piezo-polar function is used to obtain the modified form of Reynolds equation. Galerkin's technique is employed to obtain the finite element formulation in the form of algebraic equation, which is solved to determine the unknown pressure field in the bearing system. The present results reveal that the use of piezo-viscous-polar lubricant offers an enhancement in performance characteristics of bearing system, i.e., a significant hike of 13–36%, 27–30% and 7–10% in the values of S ¯ ij , C ¯ ij and ω ¯ th respectively vis-à-vis Newtonian lubricant. Demand for micro-deep-drawn complex-shaped parts in biomedical, chemical analysis and microsystem technologies has been growing. Micro-deep drawing is a micro-plastic forming used to produce micro-parts from different materials. Researchers have worked upon several aspects of micro-deep drawing (MDD), namely the scaling effects, handling of micro-parts and process intermittency. The present work reviews some of these experimental and numerical studies on the MDD considering the size effects, forming limit diagram, parametric effect, lubrication and coating on punch and die surfaces. The topology modification of the deep drawing tool surface using macro/microstructured coated tool shows substantial potential for the lubricant-free micro-deep drawing. Further, micro-structuring of the blank via laser has emerged as another approach in the MDD process to reduce the effective contact area between tool and sheet and, hence, the friction forces. A time-varying meshing stiffness (TVMS) model that includes oil film stiffness in the elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) line contact is proposed for tooth root cracking. This model employs the oil film thickness to estimate the stiffness of the oil film in gear contact by considering the profile variation of the oil film induced by tooth root cracks, to provide the evolution principle of TVMS in EHL line contact to study the effects of oil film stiffness of cracked gear on the TVMS. The results of the analysis reveal that the overall result of TVMS decreases owing to the stiffness of the oil film, whereas the combined TVMS depends mainly on the rotation speed of the gear system because the thickness of the oil film in the tooth crack is affected by the velocity of the entrainment. Furthermore, a six-degree-of-freedom (DOF) dynamic model is introduced to analyze the vibration behavior of the gear system using the combined TVMS results for different crack levels, and the influence of the combined TVMS on the vibration response of the tooth root crack is exhibited from the time-domain analysis, frequency-domain analysis, and statistical indicator analysis. In this paper, the tribological characteristics of an oil-soluble magnetic fluid additive under mixed lubrication are studied by experiments and numerical simulation. [bmim][FeCl4] is dissolved in CF10W-40 lubricating oil as a magnetic liquid additive, and its friction coefficient is tested by a point contact friction tester at different temperatures, rotational speeds and magnetic field intensities. The transition condition of lubrication state is obtained through analyzing the Stribeck curves based on the experiments, and the strength model of boundary film is established accordingly. A mixed lubrication model is established by substituting the boundary film strength model and the surface roughness model into the hydrodynamic lubrication model based on Reynolds equation. The results show that the magnetic solution as an additive can obviously reduce friction and wear, and the effect is more obvious under the condition of magnetic field. The boundary film strength model can accurately reflect the transition characteristics of lubrication state in the presence of boundary film, and the mixed lubrication model based on boundary film strength model can more precisely reflect the tribological characteristics of friction pairs, so this study provides a new theoretical method for the related research on the influence of boundary film on lubrication characteristics. A reduction in wake effects in large wind farms through wake-aware control has considerable potential to improve farm efficiency. This work examines the success of several emerging, empirically derived control methods that modify wind turbine wakes (i.e., the pulse method, helix method, and related methods) based on Strouhal numbers on the O (0.3) . Drawing on previous work in the literature for jet and bluff-body flows, the analyses leverage the normal-mode representation of wake instabilities to characterize the large-scale wake meandering observed in actuated wakes. Idealized large-eddy simulations (LES) using an actuator-line representation of the turbine blades indicate that the n = 0 and ± 1 modes, which correspond to the pulse and helix forcing strategies, respectively, have faster initial growth rates than higher-order modes, suggesting these lower-order modes are more appropriate for wake control. Exciting these lower-order modes with periodic pitching of the blades produces increased modal growth, higher entrainment into the wake, and faster wake recovery. Modal energy gain and the entrainment rate both increase with streamwise distance from the rotor until the intermediate wake. This suggests that the wake meandering dynamics, which share close ties with the relatively well-characterized meandering dynamics in jet and bluff-body flows, are an essential component of the success of wind turbine wake control methods. A spatial linear stability analysis is also performed on the wake flows and yields insights on the modal evolution. In the context of the normal-mode representation of wake instabilities, these findings represent the first literature examining the characteristics of the wake meandering stemming from intentional Strouhal-timed wake actuation, and they help guide the ongoing work to understand the fluid-dynamic origins of the success of the pulse, helix, and related methods. To exactly describe lubrication problems modeling micro-scale influence in rough lubricated contact is unavoidable. In this study a novel computational scheme for lubricated problem is presented based on two-scale homogenization method, which facilitates solving the two-scale problem. Homogenization model of mass fluxes is implemented at the micro-scale domain, and represents the influence of surface topography. A linearization method is developed to derive finite derivatives of mass fluxes at the micro-scale domain defined by scale separation. The key strength of the proposed procedure is the finite difference derivative coupling which represents the lubricated problem inclusive of the effect of surface topography. The effectiveness of the proposed multiscale scheme is validated by comparing with the deterministic method. As a critical component of the joint gearbox, spur gear pairs play a crucial role in energy conversion, limiting the performance of a collaborative robot. Accurately assessing their instantaneous efficiency and torque fluctuation is essential for developing high-precision robot joint control models. This study proposes a computational model to predict the instantaneous efficiency and torque fluctuation of spur gears under typical operating conditions. The model incorporates a torque balance model, a load distribution model, and a friction model to reflect the relationship between gear meshing position and efficiency. The instantaneous efficiency and torque fluctuation of gear pairs were compared with the Coulomb friction model with an average friction coefficient and the elastohydrodynamic lubrication model with a time-varying friction coefficient. The effect of gear contact ratio on efficiency is analysed, while the instantaneous efficiency and torque fluctuation of gears are studied under varying operating conditions. The results indicate a maximum efficiency difference of 1.86 % between the two friction coefficient models. Under specific operating conditions, the instantaneous efficiency variation of the gear pair can reach 3.34 %, and the torque fluctuation can reach 5.19 Nm. A simplified mathematical model has been developed for understanding combined effects of surface roughness, viscosity variation and couple stresses on the squeeze film behaviour of a flat and a curved circular plate in the presence of transverse magnetic field. The Stokes (1966) couple stress fluid model is included to account for the couple stresses arising due to the presence of microstructure additives in the lubricant. In the context of Christensen's (1969) stochastic theory for the lubrication of rough surfaces, two types of one-dimensional roughness patterns (radial and azimuthal) are considered. The governing modified stochastic Reynolds type equations are derived for these roughness patterns. Expressions for the mean squeeze film characteristics are obtained. Numerical computations of the results show that the azimuthal roughness pattern on the curved circular and flat plate results in more pressure buildup whereas performance of the squeeze film suffers due to the radial roughness pattern. Further the Lorentz force characterized by the Hartmann number, couple stress parameter and viscosity variation parameter improve the performance of the squeeze film lubrication as compared to the classical case (Non-magnetic, Newtonian case and non-viscous case). The cylinder liner and piston ring form the most crucial friction pair in the diesel engine, contributing 35–40% of its overall friction losses. Recent research indicates that transient heat transfer significantly affects piston ring lubrication. However, the impact of such a transfer on varying surface textures and lubrication traits remains unclear. This paper takes the piston ring–cylinder liner of a certain diesel engine as the research object, which is based on a two-dimensional averaged Reynolds function and Greenwood–Tripp micro convex body contact model; establishes a numerical calculation model of the transient heat fluid lubrication characteristics of a vertical piston ring–cylinder liner assembly by combining the oil film thickness equation, energy equation, lubricating oil viscosity–temperature, and viscosity pressure characteristics; avoids large errors associated with assuming different temperature values for lubricants; and also uses the cylinder liner surface texturing technique to examine the effects of surface texturing on lubrication properties in the presence of transient thermal fluids. The findings indicate that employing transient thermal fluid for determining the mean value of the oil film temperature in isothermal lubrication calculations yields comparable values for minimum oil film thickness and frictional power consumption, while the friction power consumption calculated by the transient thermal fluid is slightly lower. The depth of the recesses on the surface of the cylinder liner should be minimized, while the radius of the texture should be maximized, taking into consideration the current circumstances. This work reports on the development of nanoplasmonic thin films consisting of Au, Ag, or Au-Ag nanoparticles dispersed in a TiO2 matrix and the optimization of the deposition parameters to tune their optical response. The thin films were produced by reactive DC magnetron sputtering of a Ti target with Au and/or Ag pellets placed on the erosion zone. The thicknesses (50 and 100 nm) of the films, the current density (75 and 100 A/m2) applied to the target (titanium), and the number of pellets placed on its surface were the deposition conditions that were used to tailor the optical (LSPR) response. The total noble metal content varied between 13 and 28 at.% for Au/TiO2 films, between 22 and 30 at.% for Ag/TiO2 films, and 8 to 29 at% for the Au-Ag/TiO2 systems with 1:1, 1:1.5, and 1:2 Au:Ag atomic ratios. After thermal annealing at 400 and 600 °C, LSPR bands were found for all films concerning the Au-TiO2 and Au-Ag/TiO2, while for Ag/TiO2, only for thin films with 28 and 30 at.% of Ag concentration. Refractive index sensitivity (RIS) was evaluated for Au and Au-Ag/TiO2 thin films. It was found that for bimetallic nanoparticles, the sensitivity can increase up to five times when compared to a monometallic nanoplasmonic system. A steady plane hydrodynamic problem of lubrication of a lightly loaded contact of two parallel cylinders lubricated by a non-Newtonian fluid with Giesekus rheology is considered. The advantage of this non-Newtonian rheology is its ability to properly describe the real behavior of formulated lubricants at high and low shear stresses. The problem is solved by using a modification of the regular perturbation method with respect to the small parameter α , characterizing the degree to which the polymeric molecules of the additive to the lubricant follow the streamlines of the lubricant flow. It is assumed that the lubricant relaxation time and the value of α are of the order of the magnitude of the ratio of the characteristic gap between the contact surfaces and the contact length. The obtained analytical solution of the problem is analyzed numerically for the dependencies of the problem characteristics such as contact pressure, fluid flux, lubrication film thickness, friction force, energy loss in the lubricated contact, etc., on the problem input parameters. Laser texturing with a dimple pattern was applied to modify a Ti6Al4V alloy at the micro level, aiming to improve its friction and wear resistance in combination with oil lubrication to optimize the performance in demanding industrial environments. The tribological analysis was performed on four different dimple-textured surfaces with varying dimple size and dimple-to-dimple distance and under lubrication with three different oils, i.e., T9, VG46, and VG100, to reflect the oil viscosity's influence on the friction/wear of the laser-textured Ti6Al4V alloy. The results show that the surfaces with the highest texture density showed the most significant COF reduction of around 10% in a low-viscosity oil (T9). However, in high-viscosity oils (VG46 and VG100), the influence of the laser texturing on the COF was less pronounced. A wear analysis revealed that the laser texturing intensified the abrasive wear, especially on surfaces with a higher texture density. For low-texturing-density surfaces, less wear was observed for low- and medium-viscosity oils (T9 and VG46). For medium-to-high-texturing densities, the high-viscosity oil (VG100) provided the best contact conditions and wear results. Overall, reduced wear, even below the non-texturing case, was observed for sample 50–200 in VG100 lubrication, indicating the combined effect of oil reservoirs and increased oil-film thickness within the dimples due to the high viscosity. An endeavor has been made to study the performance of a ferrofluid based squeeze film in circular cylinder near a plane resorting to Shliomis model, considering slip velocity. The stochastic model of Christenson and Tonder has been brought in here to evaluate the effect of surface roughness. The associated stochastically averaged Reynolds type equation is solved to obtain the pressure distribution. Then load bearing capacity has been calculated. The results show that Shliomis model based ferrofluid lubrication is relatively better as compared to the Neuringer-Rosensweig model for magnetic fluid lubrication of this type of bearing system, even if the slip is higher. The adverse effect of roughness can be reduced considerably at least in the case of negatively skewed roughness with a suitable choice of curvature parameters. It is observed that this type of bearing system supports some amount of load even when there is no flow, unlike the case of conventional lubricants. Some of the results presented here establish that the adverse effect of slip velocity can be minimized with suitable magnetic strength, irrespective of the fact that the roughness induces adverse effect. Improving the bearing design helps in reducing the negative consequences related to errors in installation, manufacturing, deflections under severe loading conditions, progressive wear of machine elements, and many other aspects. One of the methods of such a design improvement effort is changing the bearing profile along the bearing width to compensate for the reduction in the geometrical gap between the shaft and the bearing inner surface due to the aforementioned causes. Since in all rotating machinery, unbalance usually exists at some level, this paper deals with the response of this modified bearing to unbalanced excitation to evaluate the effectiveness of such geometrical design on the dynamic characteristics of the rotor-bearing system. The numerical solution is performed using the finite difference method by assuming Reynolds boundary conditions to determine the cavitation limits, and the 4th-order Range-Kutta method is used to determine the time responses resulting from the unbalance excitation. The time responses to this type of excitation show that the rotor-bearing with the improved geometrical design is more stable, particularly at high speeds. In addition, this modification leads to an improvement in the lubricant layer thickness and the reduction in the levels of the generated pressure between the surfaces despite the presence of large deviations from the perfectly aligned bearing system. Furthermore, the suggested geometrical design overcomes the problem of asymmetricity in the pressure field resulting from the shaft deviation to a large extent. The results of this work (the enhancement in the level of the film thickness and the improvement in the dynamic response of the system as well as the reduction of the maximum pressure value) extend the range of misalignment in which the rotor bearing systems can operate safely which represents a significant step in designing the rotor-bearing system. To reveal the influence of surface morphology characteristics in mixed lubrication on the contact characteristics of the rolling interface, a random three-dimensional rough surface model based on Gaussian distribution theory was established. The model utilizes the finite element method (FEM) to simulate the regular contact and tangential sliding behavior of micro-asperities at the rolling interface in mixed lubrication conditions. The connection bearing capacity of models with varied roughness in mixed lubrication was studied. Furthermore, the effect of various sliding and normal indentation amounts on the normal and friction stress was investigated. The simulation result reveals that the roughness of the surface influences the distribution of the lubricating oil film. The lubricating oil layer between the interfaces with a lower roughness has a higher bearing capacity due to its more uniform distribution of peaks and valleys. An increase in the normal indentation amount raises the friction stress and normal stress. In contrast, an increase in sliding lowers the normal pressure, substantially impacting the fluctuation of the friction coefficient dramatically. In this paper, the effect of the differential lubrication method on the wrinkling and cracking during the hydroforming of the Y-shaped tube was discussed, as well as the effects of the initial position, counterforce, and end angle of the counter punch on the forming of the branch tube were discussed. It is of great significance to the hydroforming of thin-walled 5A02 aluminum alloy Y-shaped tube with a large transition fillet that is asymmetric in both longitudinal and transverse directions. The experiment used a counter punch with 0° and 13.5° end angles and a loading path with stepped pressure feed. MoS2 and PTFE film were chosen as lubricants for the differentiated lubrication method. The experimental results show that the flow rate of material in the bulging zone was effectively improved when MoS2-PTFE was used in this zone of Y-shaped tube, while dry friction was used in other areas, preventing the wrinkling on the main tube. The branch without cracking but with ideal height and good surface quality can be obtained when the counterforce was 13.7 KN, the initial position was 17 mm, and the counter punch end angle was 13.5°. The synergistic effect of different types of solid particles in liquid lubricants is of great interest. In this work, g-C3N4 nanosheets were initially prepared using a calcination method and then as-prepared, and h-BN were used as lubricating additives to the white oil. A comparison between the mixed additives and the single g-C3N4 or h-BN additives revealed that the base oil with the addition of g-C3N4 and h-BN showed the best lubricating properties. The results show a 12.3% reduction in friction coefficient, resulting in a 68.6% reduction in wear rate compared to the white oil when filled with 0.5 wt% g-C3N4 and h-BN (1:1 by weight). Moreover, the addition of g-C3N4 and h-BN improves the high-temperature lubrication properties of the white oil. However, the friction coefficient and wear rate increase with increasing oil temperature. The large contact area between g-C3N4 and its sliding counterpart and the strong adhesive force between h-BN and its sliding counterpart improve the film formation efficiency, leading to enhanced tribological properties under oil lubrication conditions. The anti-scuffing bearing capacity of gears is a significant issue for their service lives, especially for the cases with heavy loads or high speeds. Generally, the anti-scuffing bearing capacity is evaluated according to the surface contact temperature that can be calculated with either analytical methods or finite element analysis (FEA) methods. The analytical methods usually apply the theory of Blok to efficiently obtain the results by simplifying some actual physical conditions, which are well considered in the FEA methods with accurate results but more computation time. Conversely, a new efficient and accurate analytical method is proposed by introducing the actual lubricant film thickness and continuous heat transfer for the theory of Blok. These two physical conditions are the key issues for the calculation of the two parts of surface contact temperature, flash temperature and bulk temperature, respectively. For the calculation of flash temperature, elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) is introduced to consider the lubricant film thickness for the theory of Blok, and the result is obtained by solving the Reynolds equation efficiently with the finite difference method. For the bulk temperature, the result for a contacting point on the gear tooth surface is directly obtained according the theory of Blok, and the continuous heat transfer among the adjacent contacting points is considered with Gaussian heat morphology, which can accurately construct the bulk temperature field distribution in the contact region. To research the dynamic response characteristics of the multi-link complex mechanism with lubricated clearance joint, an improved transitional lubrication model considering the roughness of the contact surface is established based on the fuzzy set model of the lubrication state. The dynamic model of a six-bar rocking feeding mechanism with lubricated clearance joint is established, and the influence of dry friction clearance and lubricated clearance on the dynamic response of the mechanism are analyzed. By comparing with the simulation results of ADAMS and Flores lubrication model, the correctness and effectiveness of the established dynamic model and the improved transition lubrication model are verified. The influence of driving speed, clearance size and number of clearances on the dynamic response of the mechanism with lubricated clearance joint is mainly studied. The simulation results show that the driving speed, clearance size and number of clearances have an impact on the dynamic characteristics of the mechanism. With the increase of driving speed and clearance value, the greater the impact on the mechanism, the increase in the number of clearances, which reduces the stability of the mechanism, and there is interaction between different clearance joints. Elastomers are the class of materials that are widely used in a variety of industrial, commercial, and consumer applications due to their unique mechanical properties, including high elasticity, high flexibility, and high resilience. However, there are many challenges in machining of elastomers such as poor surface finish, build up of heat, degradation of elastomers, etc. To overcome these challenges, cryogenic cooling assistance has been introduced as a means of improving the machinability of elastomers. This paper presents a soft computing approach for optimizing the surface roughness and cutting force during turning of elastomers under different lubrication conditions. Three types of elastomers, namely Nitrile Rubber (NBR), Polyurethane Rubber (PU), and Neoprene Rubber (CR), are studied, and a cryogenic fluid delivery system is employed to improve the machining process. Taguchi's L27 array is used to vary the input parameters, and a Back-Propagation Artificial Neural Network (BPANN) model is developed to predict the cutting force and surface roughness. The cutting force and surface roughness are analyzed under different cooling conditions, cutting speeds, feeds, and depths of cut for various elastomers. The results show that changes in cutting conditions significantly affect the cutting force and that the type of lubrication used affects the cutting force by altering the material's physical properties. Cutting force is significantly influenced by cutting conditions, and NBR requires the highest cutting force compared to PU and CR. Further, at a cutting speed of 55 m/min, a feed of 0.11 mm/rev, and a depth of cut of 0.25 mm, the cutting force for NBR (85.1 N), while for PU (75.1 N) and CR (80.3 N), respectively. Finally, with LN2 lubrication conditions, the Cutting Force decreased by 45% and Surface Roughness decreased by 16.9%. Over last couple of decades, various regimes of lubrication attracted lots of attention. Among these regimes of lubrication, the least understood and studied are the regimes or boundary lubrication and lubricity. Better understanding these regimes of lubrication is necessary due to the fact that many moving joints such as, for example, bearings and gears at least part of their operating time work in these regimes. It may occur due to slow motion of counter parts or their relative overload. This paper proposes a model for analysis of these regimes of lubrication. Specifically, the model takes into account roughness of one of the contact surfaces. It is shown that for sufficiently high applied load it can be expected that contact surfaces are completely separated by a lubricant layer in spite of the presence of surface asperities. The definitions of boundary lubrication regimes and super lubricity are proposed. A method based on the method of matched asymptotic expansions is applied for analyzing such cases and an approximate analytical solution of the problem away from the contact region boundary is found. In the narrow inlet and exit zones adjacent to contact boundaries equations describing the main solution terms are derived. For the case of super lubricity, a resemblance of a superposition between the lubrication and surface roughness effects is determined and the effect of surface roughness on the lubrication film thickness is considered. Specifically, certain roughness conditions are identified for which the lubrication film thickness can be higher than for smooth surfaces while in other cases it can be lower. For the super lubricity regimes, the equations for the main pressure asymptotic terms in the inlet and exit zones are reduced to the corresponding equations for the smooth (not rough) surfaces for which a series of numerical solutions is obtained earlier. A general analysis of the effect of texturing on lubrication conditions in case of super lubricity is conducted based on a simple geometric criterion. The oil film separates the shaft-bearing system to reduce the frictional force of contact surfaces with large temperature variations owing to thermal conduction. Multiple impact factors seriously affected the lubrication behavior of the bearing during actual working process. An applicable model regarding the lubrication analysis of a hydrodynamic-static hybrid bearing with deep-shallow chambers is proposed and validated with published literature. The lubrication behavior includes film pressure, load capacity, bearing stiffness and flow rate is numerically calculated with centered finite difference method by solving the Reynolds equation. The influence of film thickness and working temperature are considered, over a range of eccentricity ratio. Moreover, the temperature variation caused by thermal conduction is analyzed in details. To investigate the influence of thermal conduction on the lubrication behavior, the results show that the load capacity, bearing stiffness, friction power, and flow power significantly decline with the consideration of thermal conduction. Estimation of friction and wear is a challenging problem, and finding a way to reduce them has been a concern for many years. One of the most interesting ways is to make small dimples on the surface, which increases the preservation of the lubricant in the contact area. Grease behavior is non-Newtonian lubricant, and each type of grease has its unique behavior. In this research, a model for the behavior of grease as a lubricant on surfaces is investigated. Non-conformal surfaces are considered, and their deformation due to the application of load is assumed by elastohydrodynamic contact condition. The film thickness and pressure distribution in the lubricant layer are extracted by modeling the grease behavior. The model considered the transient phenomenon during passing pin over dimple. The effect of parameters such as the diameter and depth of the dimples, the applied load, and the speed of in-contact surfaces can be considered in the model. Finally, a friction estimation formula is developed with these findings. The experimental samples were then examined using a pin-on-disk test apparatus. Measuring friction on textured and flat surfaces was the criterion for comparing the performance of these dimples. The numerical results and experimental results are consistent. The model can successfully estimate the friction coefficient by a 4.5 percent average error. Using textured surfaces shows about 7 percent less friction compared to flat surfaces. The fuel injection system heavily relies on the high-pressure fuel pump, which plays a critical role in its overall performance. The fuel pump plunger is subjected to high levels of stress and experiences irregular lubrication during dynamic loads, causing premature wear. In the industrial sector, laser surface micro-texturing has been utilized to reduce friction and enhance anti-wear properties, and its positive impact has been supported by both theoretical and experimental evidence. This article presents a method for determining the hydromechanical characteristics of plunger pairs under conditions of hydrodynamic friction. The microgeometry of friction surfaces was taken into account through the cavitation effect of the lubricating fluid, described by the modified Reynolds equation. Software was developed according to the proposed method. The developed software can be used to analyze the contacting surfaces of plunger pairs and evaluate their tribotechnical characteristics based on the microgeometry parameters of the friction surfaces. The article also discusses the impact of the microgeometry parameters on the quality criteria of the hydromechanical characteristics of the plunger pairs. Computational examples are given for the analysis of contacting surfaces of plunger pairs separated by a lubrication layer. The technical characteristics are evaluated depending on the parameters of the microgeometry of the roughness of the friction surfaces. The influence of various process parameters on the deep drawing process is a current research topic in sheet metal forming technology. Starting from the application of the previously constructed original testing device, an original tribological model was developed based on the process of sheet metal strip sliding between flat contact surfaces under variable pressures. A complex experiment was executed using an Al alloy sheet, tool contact surfaces of different roughness, two types of lubricants and variable contact pressures. The procedure included analytically pre-defined contact pressure functions based on which, for each of the mentioned conditions, the dependencies of the drawing forces and friction coefficients were obtained. The pressure in function P1 constantly decreased from a high initial value until the minimum, while in function P3 the pressure increased until the minimum value at the halfway point of the stroke, after which it increased up to the initial value. On the other hand, the pressure in function P2 constantly increased from the initial minimum value until the maximum value, while in function P4 the pressure increased until reaching the maximum value at the halfway point of the stroke, after which it decreased to the minimum value. This enabled the determination of the influence of tribological factors on the process parameters of intensity of traction (deformation force) and coefficient of friction. The pressure functions starting with decreasing trends produced higher values for the traction forces and the friction coefficient. In addition, it was established that the roughness of the contact surfaces of the tool, especially those with titanium nitride coating, has a significant influence on the process parameters. For surfaces of lower roughness (polished), a tendency of the Al thin sheet to form a glued-on layer was noticed. Solid additives can effectively overcome/alleviate the deficiencies of pure liquid lubricants themselves. However, the additive morphology involved in most of the reported solid additive/liquid lubricant systems is mostly irregular. They take more into account species differences and ignore the potential advantages of the sizes of unequal particles for the purpose of superlubricity. Herein, a mixed unequal-diameter sphere additive/ionic liquid analogue (Uneq-SA/ILA) model system is designed from the perspective of asymmetric contact between unequal-diameter spheres. It can easily enter a stable macroscopic superlubricated state (coefficient of friction as low as 0.0046) with negligible wear relative to an equal-diameter sphere additive/ILA system. Such excellent lubrication performance is attributed to the synergy of asymmetric contact between unequal-diameter spheres and low-shear-viscosity ILA; the ILA adsorbed on the sphere additive makes asymmetric slip interface between the spheres mainly concentrated inside the ILA, avoiding direct point-to-surface contact between the spheres. The film thickness of 948 μm implies that unequal-diameter spheres in the ILA have a normal accumulation space during contact, and the lubrication mechanism is dominated by hydrodynamic lubrication. This study deepens the understanding of asymmetric contact function of solid additives and provides new insights for the design of next-generation solid additive/liquid superlubrication systems. The widespread use of polymers in the high-performance engineering applications brings challenges in the field of liquid lubrication in order to separate the rubbing surfaces by the coherent fluid-film thickness relative to not only the inelastic material response of the polymers. The determination of the mechanical properties by the nanoindentation and the dynamic mechanical analysis represents the key methodology to identify the viscoelastic behavior with respect to the intense frequency and temperature dependance exhibited by polymers. The fluid-film thickness was examined by the optical chromatic interferometry on the rotational tribometer in the ball-on-disc configuration. Based on the experiments performed, first, the complex modulus and the damping factor for the PMMA polymer describing the frequency and temperature dependence were obtained. Afterwards, the central as well as minimum fluid-film thickness were investigated. The results revealed the operation of the compliant circular contact in the transition region very close to the boundary between the Piezoviscous-elastic and Isoviscous-elastic modes of the elastohydrodynamic lubrication regime, and a significant deviation of the fluid-film thickness from the prediction models for both modes in dependence on the inlet temperature. Anionic surfactant dodecyl benzene sulfonic acid (DBSA) was used to construct non-aqueous LLCS in different solvents, including monoethanolamine (MEA) and diethanolamine (DEA). DBSA/H 2 O LLCS system was constructed for comparison. The LLCS was characterized by polarizing microscope (POM), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), and rheology. Its microstructure was discussed. Meanwhile, we evaluated the lubrication and anti-corrosion performance of LLCS. Its lubrication mechanism was explained through tribology tests and X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS) analysis of the wear scar surface. Its anti-corrosion mechanism was investigated by using the weightlessness method, electrochemical test method, and quantum chemical theoretical calculations. The DBSA/MEA non-aqueous LLCS system showed better lubrication performance than DBSA/DEA and DBSA/H 2 O LLCS. It can adsorb on the surface of the friction pair to form a lubrication friction film, which plays a better role in reducing friction and wear. The DBSA/MEA LLCS is less corrosive to metals because it can effectively isolate oxygen and water in the air between friction pairs. Furthermore, the lone pair electrons in the 2p orbital of the N atom in the MEA molecule could coordinate with the 3d empty orbital of the Fe atom, forming a protective film on the metal surface, which plays a good anti-corrosion effect. The structure of the pressure swirl nozzle is the key factor affecting the atomization quality. Optimal design of nozzle structure is conducive to improving the atomization quality and has important significance for improving the efficiency and stability of the combustor. The effect of the swirl section diameter, the contraction section angle, the straight section diameter, and the expansion section angle on the spray cone angle and the liquid film thickness is studied by numerical simulation. The results show that the liquid film thickness and spray cone angle both decrease with the increase of the expansion section angle. As the straight section diameter increases, the spray cone angle and liquid film thickness both increased. Both the spray cone angle and the liquid film thickness have an optimal contraction angle value that is 60° and 45°, respectively. The increase in the ratio of the swirl section diameter to the straight section diameter can increase the liquid axial velocity. When the nozzle outlet has an expansion angle, the thickness of the liquid film is reduced. When the expansion section angle, the straight section diameter, the contraction section angle, and the swirl section diameter of the nozzle is 30°, 4 mm, 45°, and 12 mm, respectively, the atomization performance of this nozzle is the best. Molecular-scale understanding of rheological properties of small-molecular liquids and polymers is critical to optimizing their performance in practical applications such as lubrication and hydraulic fracking. We combine nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations with two unsupervised machine learning methods: principal component analysis (PCA) and t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding (t-SNE), to extract the correlation between the rheological properties and molecular structure of squalane sheared at high strain rates ( 10 6 – 10 10 s − 1 ) for which substantial shear thinning is observed under pressures P ∈ 0.1 –955 MPa at 293 K. Intramolecular atom pair orientation tensors of 435 × 6 dimensions and the intermolecular atom pair orientation tensors of 61 × 6 dimensions are reduced and visualized using PCA and t-SNE to assess the changes in the orientation order during the shear thinning of squalane. Dimension reduction of intramolecular orientation tensors at low pressures P = 0.1 , 100 MPa reveals a strong correlation between changes in strain rate and the orientation of the side-backbone atom pairs, end-backbone atom pairs, short backbone-backbone atom pairs, and long backbone-backbone atom pairs associated with a squalane molecule. At high pressures P ≥ 400 MPa, the orientation tensors are better classified by these different pair types rather than strain rate, signaling an overall limited evolution of intramolecular orientation with changes in strain rate. Dimension reduction also finds no clear evidence of the link between shear thinning at high pressures and changes in the intermolecular orientation. To improve the tool lubrication performance and reduce the use of cutting fluid as much as possible, a new type of tool with continuous lubrication on the tool-chip contact interface has been fabricated. The atomized cutting fluid can be directly delivered to the tool-chip contact interface through the inner microchannel. Experiments were conducted on the new lubrication method, dry cutting, and traditional MQL cutting of 45 steel. The three-dimensional cutting forces and the cutting temperatures were measured. The wear surface of the rake face was analyzed through SEM micromorphology and EDS element detection. The results showed that the main cutting force of the tool with continuous lubrication at the tool-chip interface decreased by 14.5% and 5.9% compared with the conventional tools of dry cutting and MQL cutting. Moreover, the friction coefficient decreased by 14.2% and 9.8%, the length of the tool-chip contact interface decreased by 35.4% and 19.1%, and the amount of cutting fluid was only 1/10 of that in MQL cutting. The new lubrication method had better cutting fluid penetration and lubrication film formation performance than the traditional MQL method on the tool-chip interface. In this article, a finite line contact tribo-dynamics model of helical gears is established by coupling the tooth surface friction, friction moment, and vibration velocity. To obtain convergent results, a cycle iteration strategy is adopted to solve the two submodels, the dynamic model and the thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication model. The parameters obtained from the dynamic model such as the dynamic load, dynamic transmission error, and instantaneous speed of the teeth surfaces are used as the boundary conditions for solving the lubrication model. Meanwhile, the friction force and friction moment obtained by the lubrication model are used as parametric excitations of the dynamic model. Based on the proposed model, the influence of dynamic effect, thermal effect, rotational speed, and tooth surface roughness on the tribological and dynamic properties of helical gears are discussed. The results show that the tribological and dynamic parameters deviate significantly from the quasistatic values, especially at the characteristic speed. The vibration along the off-line-of-action direction is obviously affected by the friction excitation. As the rotational speed increases, the friction coefficient and friction force decrease as well as the vibration of the gear pair along the off-line-of-action direction weakens. In recent years, there has been a challenge: how to meet the requirements of cutting lubrication and use the least cutting fluid for environmental protection simultaneously. To resolve this problem, novel cutting tools with micro textures on the rake face for lubrication were proposed, which can directly transport the cutting fluid to the tool-chip contact interface by using a micro-pipe. Cutting tests were performed on AISI 1045 steel. Then, the cutting force, friction coefficient, tool-chip contact length as well as wear of tools were investigated. The results show that the novel tools with micro textures have better cutting performance than other tools, by using much less cutting fluid than traditional flood lubricating cutting. Especially for the TVT tool, it has the best comprehensive performance. The main lubricating mechanism is that the cutting fluids can be more widely distributed on the tool rake face by the micro textures. Functionally graded materials (FGMs) are a promising engineering material, which is highly desirable in extreme environments of aerospace, nuclear, and bio-implants. Although the surface accuracy and quality of 3D-printed Ni–Fe FGMs can meet most application scenarios, it still requires post-cutting treatment especially in nuclear industry. The FGMs, with the gradient of mechanical property, are a new type of difficult-to-cut material. However, no ready-made post milling process can be referred. The poor-machined surface quality induced by excessive tool wear still cannot be handled even with textured tool under minimum quantity lubrication (MQL). In this paper, the mechanical properties and machinability of the Ni–Fe FGMs as well as its 5 isotropic component 304LxIN625y were firstly studied and correlated. Then, two milling parameter selection strategies were proposed by minimum milling force and by minimum surface roughness, corresponding to strategy I and strategy II. The results show that tool breakage occurs in bottom cutting edge when strategy I is adopted. On the contrary, strategy II can reduce tool major flank wear 40.1% by forming an elastohydrodynamic lubrication between bottom cutting edge and the machined surface, which is a prospective method to solve the tool failure during milling of 3D-printed Ni–Fe FGMs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As an important precision transmission functional component in industrial fields such as large mechanical equipment, high-speed CNC machining center, and aerospace, the service life of the ball screw are directly related to the life of high-end equipment. Fatigue failure is the main failure mode of the ball screw in the transmission application where the transmission accuracy is not high. Therefore, the fatigue life of the ball screw is studied from the perspective of fatigue. The load distribution form of the double-nut ball screw under axial load is analyzed. Based on the ball load distribution, a mixed lubrication model of the ball screw considering non-Newtonian effect of lubricant is established, and a fatigue life prediction method of the ball screw based on maximum secondary surface stress is proposed. The lubrication performance of the ball screw under maximum contact load is compared with that under equal load distribution, and the effects of ball load distribution, curvature ratio, and temperature rise on fatigue life are analyzed. Two kinds of ball screw including BT GD8020 and NSK DFD8020 are used for running test of fatigue life, and the fatigue life calculation method based on the maximum secondary surface stress is verified. Ball screw has become a key functional component commonly used in actuators of high-end machine tools because of its high transmission efficiency, low environmental impact, and strong universality of working conditions. For the high-precision ball screw, the proper and constant preload is the premise to maintain the transmission accuracy and reliable dynamic characteristics of the ball screw. The direct measurement of the preload is difficult to be achieved. Usually, the preload of the ball screw is indirectly determined by the friction torque of the ball screw under no-load condition. In previous studies, the influence of lubrication on friction torque of the ball screw was not considered, and the influence of operating conditions on performance of lubricant was ignored, and the influence of contact elastic hysteresis effect and the sliding friction effect was not considered, which seriously affected the modeling accuracy of friction torque for the ball screw. Therefore, on the basis of considering the contact elastic hysteresis friction and the sliding friction of the ball screw in the paper, a calculation model of friction torque for the ball screw based on the coupling of the ball load distribution and the thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication is proposed. The mechanism of different friction terms on the friction torque of the ball screw is analyzed, and the coupling relationship among preload, rotational speed, and friction torque is established. The experimental results show that the proposed method, which the ball load distribution, the thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication, the elastic hysteresis, and the sliding friction are comprehensively considered, has a good reference significance for improving the internal preload and predicting the precision degradation of the ball screw. In high-speed sawing, the penetration of cutting fluid is limited due to the narrow kerf and large cutting depth. To improve the machining performance of high-speed sawing and the lubrication and cooling efficiency of cutting fluid, a technology named electrostatic minimum quantity lubrication (EMQL) high-speed sawing with water-based nanofluid as cutting fluids was developed. The adsorption and motion characteristics of droplets on the solid surface under airflow were studied. Furthermore, the machinability of EMQL in high-speed sawing was explored. The results show that the charged droplet's surface tension, static contact angle, and velocity under tangential airflow are lower than those of the uncharged droplet, while the dynamic contact angle hysteresis is higher. This indicates that the adsorbability of charged droplets on solid surface is enhanced. In high-speed sawing processing, the principal sawing force is reduced by 19% when the fluid is charged at − 4 kV. The reason may be that charging reduces the drag force of the droplet and increases the capillary force generated by the deformation of the contact line between the droplet and the solid surface, which enhances the adsorption capacity of the charged droplets on the sawtooth surfaces and improves the lubrication performance of the sawing area. In order to study the friction and wear properties of cast iron in free grinding environment under the condition of line contact, this paper presented a new method to calculate the friction coefficient by measuring the friction torque. Through the self-developed free abrasive grinding experimental device in line contact condition, this work carried out friction and wear experiment with relative speed, load, abrasive particle diameter, and abrasive mass fraction as process parameters, and studied the evolution rules of friction coefficient and wear amount of cast iron materials under different process parameters. Based on the response surface method Box-Behnken experimental design, the significance of the experimental results was analyzed, and the prediction model of the friction coefficient and wear amount of cast iron was established. According to the significance of the prediction model, the influence degree of each process parameter on the friction coefficient and wear amount was revealed. The results showed that under the action of free abrasive, the friction coefficient of cast iron material in line contact with GCr15 was between 0.18 and 0.35. When the experimental time was 1.5 h, the removal amount of cast iron material was between 20 and 65 mg, which is significantly increased compared with that without abrasive and the wearing capacity of cast iron increased with the increase of relative speed, load, abrasive particle diameter, and abrasive mass fraction. The friction coefficient had a negative correlation with relative speed, and a positive correlation with abrasive particle diameter and abrasive mass fraction. With the increase of load, the change of friction coefficient decreased first and then increased. The influence degree of each process parameter on the friction coefficient and wear amount of cast iron material: the particle diameter and relative velocity of abrasive were relatively significant, the abrasive mass fraction was the second, and the load was the smallest. Through random experiments, the prediction model of friction coefficient and wearing capacity were verified to be highly accuracy, and could be used to predict the friction and wear performance parameters of cast iron in the process of free grinding under the condition of line contact. In mechanical industry, most mechanical systems contain lubrication clearance joints. Consequently, to analyze the dynamic response errors and accuracy reliability for mechanisms with lubrication clearance joints is very necessary. So far majority studies have focused on kinematic accuracy reliability for mechanism, but few on dynamic response errors and accuracy reliability. Moreover, the only studies on dynamic accuracy reliability mainly focus on mechanisms with dry contact clearance joint, while the studies on dynamic accuracy reliability for mechanisms with lubrication clearance joint are very few. This paper presents an analysis method of dynamic response errors and accuracy reliability for mechanism with lubrication clearance joints. Firstly, the lubrication clearance joint model and dry contact clearance joint model are established, respectively. The dynamic model of nine-bar mechanism with multiple lubrication clearance joints is developed according to Lagrangian multiplier method. And then, the dynamic accuracy reliability model for mechanism is derived by first-order second-moment method. Finally, the influences of lubrication clearance and dry contact clearance on dynamic response errors and accuracy reliability for mechanism are compared and analyzed at different driving speeds. And the influences of dynamic viscosity and clearance values on dynamic response errors and accuracy reliability for mechanism with lubrication clearance joints are researched. For the influence of boundary film on the lubrication state of sliding friction pairs, a boundary film strength model was proposed that can comprehensively reflect the influences of film thickness, pressure, shear stress and temperature. The model parameters were obtained through fitting the test results. Then, a mixed lubrication model considering boundary film strength was established by coupling the boundary film strength model with the hydrodynamic lubrication model and the asperity contact model. The calculation program was developed using the Fortran language, which can effectively capture the tribological characteristics and action ratios of the fluid, boundary film and dry friction components. Simultaneously, the mixed lubrication model was applied to the journal bearing. A parametric analysis was performed to investigate the influences of different working conditions on lubrication performance. Under current operating conditions, the results show that: when the speed is above 200 r/min or the viscosity is higher than 0.09 Pa·s, the boundary film breakdown rate is almost 0 and the friction coefficient is lower than 0.02; when the roughness is reduced from 1.8 μm to 0.8 μm, the ultimate load of the journal bearing rises from 27 MPa to 36 MPa, an increase of about 33%; when the load exceeds 36 MPa or the temperature is higher than 100 °C, more than 25% of the boundary film breaks and the dry friction component accounts for more than 60% of the total friction, which leads to a sudden increase in the friction coefficient. Hence, the study of mixed lubrication considering boundary film strength provides theoretical guidance for accurately reflecting the actual lubrication state and improving the mechanical energy efficiency of friction pairs. A squeeze film damper (SFD) is a commonly used component in aeroengine support structures. However, eccentric SFDs are often employed in practical applications. Existing research in this field has mainly focused on simple rotor models and frequency-domain solution techniques. In this study, a rotor system tester with and without an eccentric SFD was built, and a simulation model based on the finite element method and fixed interface modal synthesis method was proposed. Then, the nonlinear dynamic response of the rotor system during run-up and run-down was studied based on the tester and simulation model. The results show that an eccentric SFD affords zero frequency and a series of double frequencies in the rotor system response. An eccentric SFD may cause the increase of the critical speed, amplitude jump, and displacement amplitude oscillation of the rotor system during run-up/run-down. Additionally, it may cause the acceleration response at the mounting bracket to significantly increase when the rotor system is suddenly accelerated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
