This paper explores the socio-cultural and gender-based dynamics associated with place values, and their implications for women's access to water through case studies of upland and riverine communities in southern Nigeria. We used a range of fieldwork methods including public meetings, focus group discussions, in-depth interviews, keen observations, key informants and other secondary sources. Our findings show that drinking water sources are a part of the many forms of visible material structures that embody and generate automatic reproduction of gender-based beliefs, attitudes, feelings and practices. The outcome of such practices affects men and women differently in relation to access, workload and capacity for hygiene and other socio-economic practices. In discussing access to essential public goods, social and economic capacities take priority focus over the impact of 'place values' either as standalone or intersectional elements. This paper seeks contemporary cultural heritage conservation principles by reviewing its history, starting from the 18th century, in practices, international documents, and the literature on this topic. It intends to lay a foundation to avoid damaging cultural heritages by misconducting conservation. This study first found that the conservation objects of cultural heritage include particularly important ones and general ones that are closely related to daily life, and they involve tangible and intangible aspects. Second, cultural heritage conservation involves document-based restoration when necessary as well as identifying the value of them to play their role nowadays. Third, integrating cultural heritage conservation within the context of sustainable development goals is essential for successfully balancing the relationship between the built and natural environments. Fourth, mobilising the public to participate in cultural heritage conservation enables the implementation of conservation to meet the expectations of the public, and may have a positive influence on people's consciousness. Fifth, as a treasure, cultural heritage conservation is a global responsibility that involves conjoint cooperation. Sixth, more cultural heritage conservation interdisciplinary methods have been developed and could be applied, but this should be limited in order to not destruct their authenticity and integrity. In November 2022 the first Dark Genome Symposium was held in Boston, USA. The meeting was hosted by Rome Therapeutics and Enara Bio, two biotechnology companies working on translating our growing understanding of this vast genetic landscape into therapies for human disease. The spirit and ambition of the meeting was one of shared knowledge, looking to strengthen the network of researchers engaged in the field. The meeting opened with a welcome from Rosana Kapeller and Kevin Pojasek followed by a first session of field defining talks from key academics in the space. A series of panels, bringing together academia and industry views, were then convened covering a wide range of pertinent topics. Representative democracy is no longer enough for day-to-day governance as citizens demand more of their elected officials' time and more attention paid to matters that concern them. Public hearings, open houses and other traditional means of engaging with citizens, especially at the municipal level, are not sufficient for true participatory democracy. Nor is going to the polls on a set date enough to satisfy citizens' desires to interact more with elected officials. Done properly, engaging with the community can enable politicians to make better decisions. It can also broaden their perspectives on issues, offer opportunities for better communication and relationship-building with a diverse public and allow new ideas to come into play in the decisionmaking process. Although an Ipsos poll has revealed that just 20 per cent of Canadians have ever engaged in community engagement, those who did said they saw it as a positive experience. This paper examines the barriers to community engagement, including failure to reach people, time and place limitations, NIMBYism and the problem of strong voices dominating and making other people feel unheard. The City of Nanaimo offers a successful model of community engagement. When preparing an Affordable Housing Strategy, officials reached out to the public through pop-up events, workshops, surveys and one-on-one conversations. Follow-up included a white paper that incorporated the engagement process, public feedback and policy options. Later, a draft of the strategy was presented to the public during an open house which offered a question-andanswer period. Engaging with the public is not a small undertaking. However, this paper shows that problems such as divergent opinions, strongly vocal activists potentially hijacking the agenda, inevitable conflicts between factions and establishing the best times and places for engagement are not insurmountable. This paper offers recommendations for community engagement that can be adapted by both large and small municipalities. The key to successful engagement is advance preparation, including deciding which projects are best suited for this approach, public communication to ensure as many people as possible know about the opportunity to engage and starting the engagement process early. Taking the process to the people by going to popular local hang-outs and talking to citizens there helps mitigate the problem of inconvenient times and structured settings for many people. In smaller municipalities, officials can set up tables on Main Street, at libraries or local clubs. Combining online engagement with other efforts could help bring together ideas and perspectives from those more likely to engage online and those who prefer traditional methods of engagement, which will help to improve the quality of the whole process. Online engagement can supplement in-person connections and can help to set out rules around behaviour and enforcement of them. Municipalities can also partner with translators and cultural organizations to ensure that no one is left out of the process because of language or other barriers. We study costly communication in a common-pool resource (CPR) experiment as a proxy for two different forms of participatory processes: as a public good and as a club good. A public communication meeting, representing centralized participatory processes, occurs when all group members' monetary contributions reach a specified threshold. Club communication meetings, representing networked participatory processes, follow only among those members of the group who pay a communication fee. We test whether the way costly communication is provided affects the willingness of participants to contribute to communication, as well as the dynamics of such payments, and the content of communication. This is done by analyzing contributions to communication and communication content of 100 real-life resource users participating in a lab-in-field experiment. We find that contributions towards communication are higher when communication is public, and that club communication features more frequent but less inclusive communication meetings. Also, communication content is more oriented towards addressing the collective action problem associated with the management of the resource when communication groups are attended by all participants. The Code of Civil Procedure introduced, within the scope of Brazilian law, the institute of judicial precedent, as an alleged decisionmaking parameter of mandatory observance, edited by bodies of the Judiciary in the exercise of the jurisdictional function. However, the Code of Civil Procedure was not concerned with establishing a democratic system for the formation of judicial precedents. It is necessary to observe the call for public hearings for the dialogical formation of precedents as a result of the constitutional model of process brought by the Federal Constitution of 1988. The methodology used was the carrying out of theoretical and bibliographical research, with consultation of national and international doctrines, articles scientific papers from indexed journals, dissertations, theses and court decisions. At the end of this research, it was possible to conclude that the hypothesis analyzed obtained an affirmative result, that is, the system of formation of precedents in Brazil does not guarantee the democratic nature of the provisions that will be binding, since the participation of the interested parties affected by the decision, especially via holding a public hearing, which is not obligatory, and is a mere faculty of the judge. Objective: To obtain and evaluate detailed descriptions of potential value propositions as seen by adults undergoing hearing rehabilitation with hearing aids. Design: Semi-structured interviews with patients and audiologists, a literature search, and the inclusion of domain knowledge from experts and scientists were used to derive value propositions. A two-alternative forced-choice paradigm and probabilistic choice models were used to investigate hearing aid users' preferences for the value propositions through an online platform. Study sample: Twelve hearing aid users (mean age 70, range 59–70) and eleven clinicians were interviewed. A total of 173 experienced hearing aid users evaluated the value propositions. Results: Twenty-nine value propositions as described by patients, clinicians, and hearing care experts where identified, from which twenty-one value propositions were evaluated. Results of the pair-wise evaluation method show that the value propositions judged to be the most important for the hearing aid users were: "13. To solve the hearing problem you have", "09. Thorough diagnosis of the hearing", and "16. The hearing aid solution is adapted to individual needs", which are related to finding the correct hearing solution and to be considered in the process. The value propositions judged to be least important were: "04 Next of kin and others involved in the process", "26. To be in the same room as the practitioner", and "29. The term social vulnerability refers to the condition of a person or a group of people who live in na unfavorable situation or in difficulties. This study aims to identify the problems and difficulties faced by children and adolescentes who are in a situation of social vulnerability. The research was carried out through a bibliographical review of the qualitative type, Where data collection took place through the selection of materials found in electronic portals such as: Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO); Electronic Journals in Psychology (PEPSIC) e National Library of Medicine (PubMed), 917 studies were found, but only 11 answered the survey. The massive growth of biomedical knowledge in computable formats poses a challenge for organizations as they consider mobilizing artifacts to be findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable, and trustable. Formed in 2016, the Mobilizing Computable Biomedical Knowledge (MCBK) community is taking action to ensure that health organizations have the infrastructure in place to access and apply computable knowledge; to develop national policies and standards that require all data to be discoverable and available for safe and fair use; and to promote the widespread adoption and implementation of health knowledge in support of healthcare, biomedical research, public health, and education. This report summarizes the main outcomes of the Fifth Annual MCBK meeting, also considered the first manifestly global MCBK meeting, which was held virtually July 12 to 13, 2022. Budget public hearings are spaces for transparency and social participation. These spaces can be considered synchronous accountability forums, where the rendering of accounts and the attribution of responsibilities can co-occur, raising concerns for the responsible parties about possible accountability models. This qualitative and interpretative research analyzed the dynamics of public budget hearings organized by Brazilian municipalities using semi-structured interviews with public managers. The results indicate that those responsible for public hearings adopt strategies minimizing reputational and accountability risks at different times: (i) in the preparation stage, with the definition of participation rules and the use of an informational filter; (ii) during execution, in the form of the presentation of information and in directing the public's attention; and, (iii) in the post-hearing stage, through low transparency and document manipulation. The research contributes to understanding hearings as forums of expected accountability, in which the expectation of the authorities can direct the dynamics of public hearings, transforming them into a theater performance. The results have implications for the courts of accounts and the legislative branch, which could exercise greater control and inspection of the hearings; for society, which could act in a more active and organized way; and also for the legislation in force, which could establish clear guidelines for holding hearings. In my study, I intend to explore the impact of the current epidemic situation on the health care system in Hungary. To this end, the legal environment applicable to the epidemic situation and the measures related to the health care system in the context of the epidemic situation will be presented. I think that in the 21st century and beyond, it will be increasingly important to deal with emerging epidemics, to which all countries must be able to respond appropriately. Managing the epidemic situations effectively and appropriately is in the interest of society as a whole. Furthermore, public health considerations are essential, and every country has to enhance efforts to fight epidemics. In the 21st century, states still have to consider their task to provide the necessary financial resources to combat epidemics. The sudden outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic forced organizations worldwide to switch to remote work paradigms. This paper examines how users adapted to online meeting environments, specifically in the context of official council meetings at a Brazilian university. Transitioning from traditional in-person to virtual meeting platforms required re-evaluating participation dynamics, including how council members and the public interact in these spaces. We interviewed 19 council members who were used to participating in in-person deliberative public meetings, aiming to delve into their adaptation process, examining how individuals adjusted to the virtual meeting format and related challenges. Our findings show that online meetings broadened attendance and engagement but also introduced complexities with meeting protocols and personal attention. We discuss how participants navigated the nuances of online meeting formats, from managing technical issues to redefining public and private meeting boundaries. Our analysis suggests that user adaptation is multifaceted, encompassing the adoption of new technologies and modifications in communication strategies and meeting etiquette. Through this lens, we reflect on the essential role of user-centric approaches in designing and facilitating online meetings to enhance collaborative outcomes and mitigate the potential for breakdowns. The socio-political processes that influence the acceptance of climate policies play a crucial role in shaping mitigation strategies. In this paper, we explore the interplay between social and political dynamics and their impact on climate policy support. Using a simplified model of the social and political system, we aim to uncover ways to enhance public support for climate change mitigation measures. Several factors come into play when considering policy support, including social norms, self-efficacy, social learning, and income. By examining climate mitigation policies and accounting for shifting and inherent preferences, we shed light on how individuals contribute to processes of social change. Through simulations, we find that even minimal peer pressure has a positive and significant impact on individuals' inclination towards green behaviours, regardless of whether regressive or progressive policies are implemented. Additionally, assuming uniform self-efficacy across society leads to an overestimation of society's acceptance of green policies. Our results highlight the importance of nurturing existing skills or developing new ones. Finally, our findings reveal that regional heterogeneity matters for climate policy acceptance. Digitalization is greatly impacting on governance as it has provided a more effective and robust avenue for driving governance processes to achieve optimum results. It is fundamental and strategic to public service in meeting the modern day expectations of the citizens towards quality service delivery. This paper is designed to examine the digital technologies and tools used by various Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Nigeria in delivering services to the citizens. The paper is qualitative because data used were sourced through secondary means such as government MDAs and published articles/works. The data were analyzed using analytical method and found very relevant to the study. The findings of the paper revealed that prior to the introduction of digital technologies in Nigeria public service, service delivery to the citizens was very poor, ineffective and inefficient. It was therefore conclusively stated that the digitalization driven processes in the public service should be sustained but there is need to bridge digital divide among the citizens through policies that would ensure the installation and expansion of content on wired and wireless public networks across the country; and adoption of public-private partnership model aimed at training the citizens, especially rural dwellers on the use of digital technologies. When demand for transportation is low or sparse, traditional transit cannot provide efficient and good-quality service, because of its fixed structure. For this reason, mass transit is evolving toward some degree of flexibility. Although the extension of Dial-a-Ride systems to general public meets such need of adaptability, it presents several drawbacks mostly related to the their extreme flexibility. Consequently, new transportation alternatives, such as demand-adaptive systems (DASs), combining characteristics from both the traditional transit and Dial-a-Ride, have been introduced. For their twofold nature, DASs require careful planning. We focus on tactical aspects of the planning process by formalizing the single-line DAS design problem with stationary demand and proposing two alternative hierarchical decomposition approaches for its solution. The main motivation behind this work is to provide a general methodology suitable to be used as a tool to build the tactical DAS plan in real-life conditions. We provide an experimental study where the two proposed decomposition methods are compared and the general behavior of the systems is analyzed when altering some design parameters. Introduction: The Investigational New Drug (IND) committee advises the Drug Controller General of India on matters pertaining to clinical trials (CTs) of IND for clinical development. An audit of the minutes of this committee's meetings would shed light on the drug discovery in India. Methods: Minutes of the IND committee meetings available in the public domain (2-year period) were evaluated. The applications which were postponed were excluded from the study. Outcome measures were therapeutic areas of IND, purpose of the applications, status of registration with the CT Registry of India (CTRI), and the innovator country. Results: The minutes of N = 7 meetings were available in the public domain for the period January 2017–December 2018 with N = 45 agenda items. One agenda item was excluded, and n = 44 agenda items were finally analyzed. The total number of therapeutic agents discussed was N = 29, of which n = 7/29 and n = 6/29 belonged to infectious diseases (ID) and oncology, respectively. The total number of purposes of these applications was N = 46, of which n = 35/46 (76%) were to seek permission to conduct a CT, and n = 31/35 (88.6%) were found registered with CTRI as on April 01, 2019. Of the N = 46 purposes, n = 33/46 (71.7%) were approved. Of the n = 29 INDs discussed, n = 19/29 (65.52%) were of the Indian origin. Conclusions: Although a majority (65%) of INDs discussed in the meetings were of the Indian origin, the drug discovery was not in line to tackle the top ten causes of years of life lost prematurely (barring ID). Research on leadership in the context of Brazilian public administration became relevant, as well as ethical, because it is clear that in recent decades the company undergoes many changes resulting from a new economic, political and social context. The objective of this study is to analyze the scientific literature on leadership in public administration, through a search and a systematic review on the basis of data from meetings of the National Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Administration (ANPAD), between the years 2004 and 2015. More specifically in the annals the meeting of the National Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Administration, the meeting of the Division of Public Administration ANPAD of Organizational Studies Meeting ANPAD and Meeting of People Management and Labor Relations ANPAD. It was possible to verify that the work on the leadership of the construct in the Brazilian public sector have been developed in theoretical foundation found in private management, with few exceptions, without proper understanding of the specifics of public administration. Objectives: Patient preference information (PPI) is a way to incorporate the patient voice in the evaluation of medical devices. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) has been working to encourage the voluntary inclusion of PPI throughout the medical device lifecycle for nearly a decade. This article reflects CDRH's efforts to encourage collection of PPI and offers perspectives on the future of PPI in the evaluation of medical devices.Methods: CDRH regulatory guidance, public meetings, and collaborations relating to PPI were explored.Results: Since 2012 when CDRH issued guidance on how PPI can be used as scientific evidence in the benefit-risk regulatory submission, CDRH has issued 5 subsequent guidance documents expanding on the use of PPI in medical device evaluations. CDRH remains committed to advancing the science and application of PPI in the medical device ecosystem through many collaborations with professional organizations, patient advocacy groups, and academic institutions. By hosting and actively participating in multiple scientific and regulatory public meetings and conferences, CDRH fosters a continuous learning environment where the experience of using PPI in regulatory submissions can be shared. A September 2020 meeting cosponsored by FDA and International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) discussed the state of PPI in regulatory applications and beyond.Conclusion: This article describes these pivotal events that have helped to increase the use of PPI in medical device evaluation as well as discusses future applications of PPI. In this work, based on the theoretical assumptions of the Semantics of the Event (GUIMARÃES, 2005, 2017, 2018) and Discourse Analysis (ORLANDI, 1983, 2007, 2013; PÊCHEUX, 2014, 2015), an analytical gesture is presented about the discursive functioning of the word clown producing a pejorative meaning effect in the interlocution between one of the councilors and the mayor of Americana (SP), who discussed heatedly during a public hearing at the City Council. The role of interdiscursivity in the metaphorization of clown among diverse discursive formations is described and the designation of that word is analyzed using as a material the transcription of the dispute between the politicians. Introduction : In order to implement a systems-level Emergency Medical Services (EMS) workplace violence intervention, input from end users was critically needed. We convened the two-day Stress and Violence in fire-based EMS Responders (SAVER)" Systems Checklist Consensus Conference (SC3) using methods from meeting science (i.e., ThinkLets) to comprehensively and efficiently gather feedback from stakeholders on the completeness and utility of the draft checklist that would comprise the intervention. Methods : ThinkLets, a codified facilitation technique was used to aid brainstorming, convergence, organization, evaluation, and consensus building activities on the SAVER Systems Checklist among 41 national stakeholders during a two-day conference. A qualitative and quantitative process evaluation was conducted to measure the effectiveness of conference procedures. To verify checklist feasibility results from the conference, a second feasibility assessment was conducted with the four implementation sites. Conclusions : The quantitative conference evaluation results indicated most participants viewed the conference process favorably. Emergent themes reflecting on conference effectiveness and suggestions for improvements are described. The re-evaluation of the checklist's feasibility completed by the SAVER study sites confirmed prior feasibility findings. SAVER study sites cast 45.5% of votes on checklist items to be most feasible, 34.9% as less feasible, and 19.6% as extremely difficult. Practical Applications : Multidisciplinary collaboration between public health, occupational health psychology, and meeting science led to the development of the SAVER Systems Checklist. The checklist underscores important needs for EMS policy and training development critical to responder safety as identified and supported by over 41 diverse subject matter experts. The incorporation of a widely used meeting science method, ThinkLets, into public health intervention design proved an effective and well-received approach to bring assessment, evaluation, and consensus to the SAVER Systems Checklist. This review summarizes the discussions held during the 3rd Bioethics Café in 2019, which focused on the theme: "The citizen as public health actor: challenges and opportunities". Three panelists - Yan Kestens, Allison Marchildon and Karine Lefeuvre - enriched this meeting with their expertise in public health and ethics. This exchange highlighted the value of citizen participation in public health and the importance of nuancing its understanding and application. It is a priority to consider the relationships between the various stakeholders, the contextual factors that can affect this process and the ethical strategies that can be used to strengthen "good" citizen participation. At present, Mashup development has attracted much attention in the field of software engineering. It is the focus of this article to use existing open APIs to meet the needs of Mashup developers. Therefore, how to select the most appropriate open API for a specific user requirement is a crucial problem to be solved. We propose a Hybrid Open API Selection Approach for Mashup development (HyOASAM), which consists of two basic approaches: one is a user-story-driven open API discovery approach, and the other is multidimensional-information-matrix- (MIM-) based open API recommendation approach. The open API discovery approach introduces user stories in agile development to capture Mashup requirements. First, it extracts three components from user stories, and then, it extracts three corresponding properties from open API descriptions. Next, the similarity calculation is performed on two sets of data. The open API recommendation approach first uses MIM to store open APIs, Mashups, and the invoking relationship between them. Second, it enters the matrix obtained in the previous step into a factorization machine model to calculate the association scores between the Mashups and the open APIs, and TOP-N open API lists for creating the Mashup are obtained. The volume of biomedical knowledge is growing exponentially and much of this knowledge is represented in computer executable formats, such as models, algorithms and programmatic code. There is a growing need to apply this knowledge to improve health in Learning Health Systems, health delivery organizations, and other settings. However, most organizations do not yet have the infrastructure required to consume and apply computable knowledge, and national policies and standards adoption are not sufficient to ensure that it is discoverable and used safely and fairly, nor is there widespread experience in the process of knowledge implementation as clinical decision support. The Mobilizing Computable Biomedical Knowledge (MCBK) community formed in 2016 to address these needs. This report summarizes the main outputs of the Second Annual MCBK public meeting, which was held at the National Institutes of Health on July 18‐19, 2019 and brought together over 150 participants from various domains to frame and address important dimensions for mobilizing CBK. This paper initiates a series of texts devoted to genres of love songs that combine the motif of a parting or meeting of lovers at the break of dawn. It is a genological introduction to the classification of Polish poems of this kind from the 16th and 17th centuries (Chapter 1. Introduction. Premises for this cycle of studies). Morning love songs--here referred to as albas or alboradas--appeared at the very beginning of mediaeval Romance lyricism, that is, at the turn of the 10th and 11th centuries (Mozarabic kharja). Although they originated from folk 'women's songs', they were soon included in the repertoire of troubadours and incorporated into their genre system. The first study is devoted to works focusing on lovers parting in the morning. It investigates the functioning of this type of lyric on the borderline between the traditional and courtly registers (Chapter 2. Controversy. Folk and learned albas; Chansone de femme and grand chant courtois) and presents a traditional version of alba (Chapter 3. Traditional alba (popular, folk)). The traditional alba is a thematic genre, focused on the scene of lovers parting at dawn. It is distinguished from the courtly alba (the troubadour type) by the important role of nature. The lovers meet outside the city, in natural scenery, and are awakened by the singing of morning birds (there are no guards, spies, or jealous husbands lurking in the background). The classification presented is based mainly on the findings of Pierre Bec, as well as on the research and collection of albas gathered by Toribio Fuente Cornejo. Chapter 3.1. Mozarabic kharja and its derivatives; Romanesque and Latin albas presents the oldest surviving texts, which are refrain-like fragments. Chapter 3.2. The Galician-Portuguese courtly version of traditional alba analyses a type of folk alba adapted to courtly lyricism, illustrated by the example of Nuno Fernandes Torneol's Levad' amigo. The discussion of these canonical forms of albas is extended with two proposed subtypes. The first is defined as the mixed type--traditional alba with courtly elements (chapter 3.3.) and illustrated by an example of the French alba Entre moi et mon amin. The elements of the setting (meeting in the open air, the role of the bird) come from the traditional form, which is also indicated by the lyrical subject--a woman. On the other hand, the strophic composition and metrics of the poem reveal the influence of courtly poetry. The other mixed type--courtly alba with traditional elements (chapter 3.4.), represented by two Occitan and two French texts, belongs to the fin'amor culture and has the features of the courtly version (types of characters, terminology, formal structure) with the traditional role of nature. The itinerant men of the Tablighi Jamaʿat, an Islamic reform movement that urges its followers to travel in the path of Allah, have drawn the attention of journalists and scholars alike. Dressed in loose trousers that expose his ankles, a long, flowing beard and a duffel bag slung over his shoulders, the Tablighi man has been the subject of countless inquiries. The heightened visibility of the proselytizing men in public spaces and in the media has taken attention away from the fact that the Tablighi Jamaʿat is as much a movement of women seeking to fashion a pious self. The unintended consequence of this bias is that while public meetings of the Jamaʿat, especially the annual gathering of men in Raiwind (Pakistan), Dhaka (Bangladesh), and Bhopal (India), draw a lot of attention, an equally, if not more, important site of Tablighi self-fashioning, namely the home where women convene for the weekly ijtima (meeting), is barely considered a topic worthy of study. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork among the women of the Jamaʿat conducted in Bombay (Mumbai) between 2011 and 2012, this paper will make a case for foregrounding the domestic space--in all its articulations, imaginations and contestations--in the study of the Jamaʿat. Framing the Tablighi Jamaʿat as a piety movement rooted in the domestic opens the intellectual space to theorize about modern female piety as a balancing act between the ideal and the contingent. The process of socioeconomic formation of the Amazon has been historically configured through tax and spoliative logics, of which the major projects (road, rail, port, hydroelectric and mining) are representative. This process is the purpose of this article, which is to present and reflect on the imaginary and narratives about the Amazon that has been sewing and feeding the "recent" logic of large infrastructure projects and economic agents, planning and public policies "conducted" by the Brazilian State. In addition to showing the large planned projects, it is sought to highlight how traditional populations have been resisting these projects; and, at the same time, to reflect on the wishes / needs of those populations that go beyond the "modern project". The search path was empirico-spatial, the state of Pará (January 2014 to June 2019), with observations, interviews, "participation" in public hearings in Barcarena (Northeast of Pará) and Itaituba (West of Pará), field surveys; besides reflections from the dialogues and formations with movements and social resistance and seminars in partnership with social movements. The Sixth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees criminal defendants the right to counsel at critical stages of a proceeding. While the U.S. Supreme Court has not addressed whether initial bail hearings are critical stages of a proceeding, several states have elected to provide greater protection for criminal defendants by holding that bail hearings are critical stages. However, Georgia has avoided this question, as Georgia has held that initial appearance hearings, in which questions of bail are often decided, are "not often" critical stages of a proceeding. Logically, it follows that initial appearance hearings must sometimes be critical stages of a proceeding. This Note argues that initial appearance hearings, insofar as they encompass questions of bail, should be considered critical stages. This analysis tests the theory of the collective action problem by comparing data collected from public meetings with data collected through a random sample of households, to better understand how representative preferences expressed during public meetings are of local stakeholders within a defined social area of influence. While previous studies have focused on the lack of representative participation at public meetings, this work moves beyond the concepts of who comes to the table and why and instead, explores the way that a public engagement process, may or may not provide planners with a representative understanding of local stakeholder preferences. The findings suggest that even when starting with a comprehensive stakeholder analysis, creating space for facilitated dialogue, and carefully curating discussions to focus on shared preferences, public meetings - though highly valuable as a tool for engagement - may not be effective platforms for gathering a comprehensive understanding of the land management preferences that most local stakeholders share. • Preferences of meeting participants may not reflect the majority of local stakeholders. • Public meeting discussions showcase both majority and non-majority preferences. • Drawing conclusions about majority preferences based on meeting discourse is risky. This collective editorial on the neoliberal university follows eight days of strike action at sixty UK universities called by the University and College Union (UCU) in two separate legal disputes, one on pensions and one on pay and working conditions. Anticipating the recent labor strike after previous industrial disputes in 2018 at UK universities, the work included here emanates from two dialogues at the Nordic Geographers Meeting (NGM) in summer 2019, a public meeting called Protest Pub and a conference session on the neoliberal subject and the neoliberal academy. After an opening statement by the editors, this collective endeavor begins with the urgent collaborative action of graduate students and early-career academics and is followed by reflections on life in the neoliberal academy from those involved in the dialogues at the NGM 2019 in Trondheim. Biotreatment technologies offer many advantages for passive stormwater treatment before harvesting, but performance can be variable and sensitive to system design, construction, operation and maintenance. While there is substantial research underpinning pollutant removal, hydraulic function, internal processes and optimal design, specific focus upon stormwater harvesting is relatively limited. Recent advances in system design include testing media amendments for targeted pollutant removal, enhanced pathogen removal using antimicrobial plants, and broadening technology application. However, the production of reliable fit-for-purpose water requires the development of robust validation methodologies to meet public safety expectations. While foundation studies exist, more needs to be done to extend the validation framework, monitor and control system performance and operation in real-time, and apply standards and regulatory checks. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death worldwide and, despite continuous advances, better diagnostic and prognostic tools, as well as therapy, are needed. The human transcriptome, which is the set of all RNA produced in a cell, is much more complex than previously thought and the lack of dialogue between researchers and industrials and consensus on guidelines to generate data make it harder to compare and reproduce results. This European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Action aims to accelerate the understanding of transcriptomics in CVD and further the translation of experimental data into usable applications to improve personalized medicine in this field by creating an interdisciplinary network. It aims to provide opportunities for collaboration between stakeholders from complementary backgrounds, allowing the functions of different RNAs and their interactions to be more rapidly deciphered in the cardiovascular context for translation into the clinic, thus fostering personalized medicine and meeting a current public health challenge. Thus, this Action will advance studies on cardiovascular transcriptomics, generate innovative projects, and consolidate the leadership of European research groups in the field. The right to free expression is not diminished after a person takes the oath of office and becomes an elected official. Yet a close examination of Iowa's open meetings law (Chapter 21 of the Iowa Code) reveals that the law suffers serious First Amendment deficiencies. Because the law limits the manner in which various officials may communicate with their colleagues, it likely constitutes a content-based restriction on speech. Even under a more lenient content-neutral analysis, the open meetings law fails to provide ample alternative channels of communication for officials to carry on general discussions of policy with their colleagues. Policy problems compound the law's constitutional flaws, including its potential to prevent agencies from working effectively, its tendency to discourage, rather than encourage, participation in local government, and its uneven application across agencies within state government. Proposed legislative improvements include defining "deliberation" in the law, opening more channels of communication between elected officials, and eliminating fines for unintentional violations of the law. Purpose: The paper is driven by the following question: how do interest group narratives contribute to the dialogue between the perspective of strategy as a practice and the stakeholder theory? The objective is to analyze the changes, permanent and tensions in the narratives of the stakeholders, seen the strategic practices, in the context of mining. Originality/value: Strategy as a social practice concerns the relationships between organizations, individuals and society in search of coexistence. This study establishes a dialogue between strategy as a social practice and the political perspective of the stakeholders, considering that they interact in networks, seeking the creation of value from mutuality. Design/methodology/approach: Field research was conducted in a qualitative and longitudinal approach. Data collection used to document research techniques in notes and videos of public hearings, newspaper research and interviews. Findings: The results show narrative interactions of six interest groups: entrepreneurial organizations, public authority, education, environment, residents of the area of implantation and the productive sector. The result suggests a relevant role of relational tensions as elements that restrict and enable changes and permanent and indicate the dynamic nature of intra and intergroup interactions of stakeholders. The proposed theoretical dialogue extends the field of strategic studies, in a postmodern dimension, by establishing a dialogue with the political side of stakeholder action as an alternative to the traditional functionalist perspective in the field.
