A high-purity co-axial germanium detector has been calibrated in efficiency to a precision of about 0.15% over a wide energy range. High-precision scans of the detector crystal and gamma-ray source measurements have been compared to Monte-Carlo simulations to adjust the dimensions of a detector model. For this purpose, standard calibration sources and short-lived on-line sources have been used. The resulting efficiency calibration reaches the precision needed e.g. for branching ratio measurements of super-allowed beta decays for tests of the weak-interaction standard model.

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
Beta-decay branching ratios of 62Ga have been measured at the IGISOL facility of the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyvaskyla. 62Ga is one of the heavier Tz = 0, 0+ -> 0+ beta-emitting nuclides used to determine the vector coupling constant of the weak interaction and the Vud quark-mixing matrix element. For part of the experimental studies presented here, the JYFLTRAP facility has been employed to prepare isotopically pure beams of 62Ga. The branching ratio obtained, BR= 99.893(24)%, for the super-allowed branch is in agreement with previous measurements and allows to determine the ft value and the universal Ft value for the super-allowed beta decay of 62Ga.

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
The decay of the ground-state two-proton emitter 45Fe was studied with a time-projection chamber and the emission of two protons was unambiguously identified. The total decay energy and the half-life measured in this work agree with the results from previous experiments. The present result constitutes the first direct observation of the individual protons in the two-proton decay of a long-lived ground-state emitter. In parallel, we identified for the first time directly two-proton emission from 43Cr, a known beta-delayed two-proton emitter. The technique developped in the present work opens the way to a detailed study of the mechanism of ground-state as well as beta-delayed two-proton radioactivity., Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
In an experiment performed at the LISE3 facility of GANIL, we studied the decay of 22Al produced by the fragmentation of a 36Ar primary beam. A beta-decay half-life of 91.1 +- 0.5 ms was measured. The beta-delayed one- and two-proton emission as well as beta-alpha and beta-delayed gamma decays were measured and allowed us to establish a partial decay scheme for this nucleus. New levels were determined in the daughter nucleus 22Mg. The comparison with model calculations strongly favours a spin-parity of 4+ for the ground state of 22Al.

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
Masses of the radioactive isotopes 62Ga, 62Zn and 62Cu have been measured at the JYFLTRAP facility with a relative precision of better than 18 ppb. A Q_EC value of (9181.07 +- 0.54) keV for the superallowed decay of 62Ga is obtained from the measured cyclotron frequency ratios of 62Ga-62Zn, 62Ga-62Ni and 62Zn-62Ni ions. The resulting Ft-value supports the validity of the conserved vector current hypothesis (CVC). The mass excess values measured were (-51986.5 +-1.0) keV for 62Ga, (-61167.9 +- 0.9) keV for 62Zn and (-62787.2 +- 0.9) keV for 62Cu., Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables, submitted to Phys. Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
The nucleus 54Zn has been observed for the first time in an experiment at the SISSI/LISE3 facility of GANIL in the quasi-fragmentation of a 58Ni beam at 74.5 MeV/nucleon in a natNi target. The fragments were analysed by means of the ALPHA-LISE3 separator and implanted in a silicon-strip detector where correlations in space and time between implantation and subsequent decay events allowed us to generate almost background free decay spectra for about 25 different nuclei at the same time. Eight 54Zn implantation events were observed. From the correlated decay events, the half-life of 54Zn is determined to be 3.2 +1.8/-0.8 ms. Seven of the eight implantations are followed by two-proton emission with a decay energy of 1.48(2) MeV. The decay energy and the partial half-life are compared to model predictions and allow for a test of these two-proton decay models., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in PRL

In an experiment performed at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyvaskyla, the beta-decay half-life of 62Ga has been studied with high precision using the IGISOL technique. A half-life of T1/2 = 116.09(17)ms was measured. Using beta-gamma coincidences, the gamma intensity of the 954keV transition and an upper limit of the beta-decay feeding of the 0+_2 state have been extracted. Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
The $\beta$-decay properties of the neutron-deficient nuclei $^{25}$Si and $^{26}$P have been investigated at the GANIL/LISE3 facility by means of charged-particle and $\gamma$-ray spectroscopy. The decay schemes obtained and the Gamow-Teller strength distributions are compared to shell-model calculations based on the USD interaction. B(GT) values derived from the absolute measurement of the $\beta$-decay branching ratios give rise to a quenching factor of the Gamow-Teller strength of 0.6. A precise half-life of 43.7 (6) ms was determined for $^{26}$P, the $\beta$- (2)p decay mode of which is described.

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
The beta-decay half-life of 62Ga has been studied with high precision using on-line mass separated samples. The decay of 62Ga which is dominated by a 0+ to 0+ transition to the ground state of 62Zn yields a half-life of T_{1/2} = 116.19(4) ms. This result is more precise than any previous measurement by about a factor of four or more. The present value is in agreement with older literature values, but slightly disagrees with a recent measurement. We determine an error weighted average value of all experimental half-lives of 116.18(4) ms., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in PRC

Publication commune NEX et ACEN; In a series of experiments at the SISSI/LISE3 facility of GANIL conducted between 1999 and 2004, we have collected decay information for proton-rich nuclei between 36Ca and 56Zn. The data allowed us to study the decay properties of 26 nuclei. The main experimental information obtained for all nuclei is their β-decay half-life and their total β-delayed proton emission branching ratio. For many nuclei, individual proton groups and γ rays were identified and allowed us to establish first partial decay schemes for some of the nuclei studied. In addition, mass-excess values have been determined for some of the nuclei by means of the isobaric multiplet mass equation. For 50Ni, the decay via β-delayed two-proton emission could be tentatively identified. The decay of 49Ni allowed for the first time to identify the first 2+ state in 48Fe. The experimental data are confronted to model predictions for the half-life and the mass-excess values.

In an experiment at the SISSI/LISE3 facility of GANIL, we have studied the decay of the two proton-rich nuclei 45Fe and 48Ni. We identified 30 implantations of 45Fe and observed for the second time four implantation events of 48Ni. In 17 cases, 45Fe decays by two-proton emission with a decay energy of 1.154(16) MeV and a half-life of T_1/2 = 1.6+0.5_-0.3 ms. The observation of 48Ni and of its decay allows us to deduce a half-life of T_1/2 = 2.1+2.1_-0.7 ms. One out of four decay events is completely compatible with two-proton radioactivity and may therefore indicate that 48Ni has a two-proton radioactivity branch. We discuss all information now available on two-proton radioactivity for 45Fe and 48Ni and compare it to theoretical models.

- Abstract
The nucleus 54Zn has been observed for the first time in an experiment at the SISSI/LISE3 facility of GANIL in the quasifragmentation of a 58Ni beam at 74.5 MeV/nucleon in a natNi target. The fragments were analyzed by means of the ALPHA-LISE3 separator and implanted in a silicon-strip detector where correlations in space and time between implantation and subsequent decay events allowed us to generate almost background free decay spectra for about 25 different nuclei at the same time. Eight 54Zn implantation events were observed. From the correlated decay events, the half-life of 54Zn is determined to be 3.2-0.8+1.8 ms. Seven of the eight implantations are followed by two-proton emission with a decay energy of 1.48(2) MeV. The decay energy and the partial half-life are compared to model predictions and allow for a test of these two-proton decay models.

New results on two-proton radioactivity, predicted 50 years ago and observed for the first time in 2002, are presented. These results have been obtained with a time projection chamber at the LISE3 facility of GANIL. After
45 Fe, the direct observation of the two protons for54 Zn is only the second such case from a long lived ground-state two-proton emitter. The new results are discussed and future perspectives highlighted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

Proton-rich nuclei beyond the N = Z line play a key role in our understanding of astrophysics, weakinteraction physics, and nuclear structure. The decay of 69Kr (Tz = −3/2) is of particular interest as it populates states in the proton-unbound nucleus 69Br, critical to the rapid proton-capture (rp) process thought to power type I x-ray bursts. During the astrophysical rp process, 2p-capture reactions through 69Br can bypass the "waiting-point" nucleus 68Se [1]. The bypass-reaction rate depends strongly on the proton-capture Q value. A -decay experiment was conducted at GANIL which utilized implant- -proton and - correlations to study nuclear structure and decay properties primarily related to the decays of 69,70,71Kr. Neutron-deficient isotopes ranging from Zn to Kr were implanted into a Si-DSSD detector located at the focal plane of the LISE spectrometer in which spatially and temporally correlated implantation and decay events were studied. Gamma rays were detected in surrounding EXOGAM high-purity germanium clover detectors. We measured -decay half lives for 69,70,71Kr of 27(3) ms, 40(6) ms, and 92(9) ms, respectively, and identified approximately 200 69Kr implantation-decay events. We observed a dominant -decay branch to the isobaric analog state (IAS) in 69Br which then decays to the first excited state in 68Se, a decay path which strongly constrains the spin and mass of 69Kr. Our measured IAS energy, however, disagrees by approximately 1 MeV from the previously adopted value of 4.07(5) MeV [2]. Data from this work represents new measurements that are valuable for updating ENSDF, RIPL, and decay databases, as well as for clarifying existing ambiguities. An overview of the results from our analysis of implanted neutron-deficient nuclei and their implications will be presented.
