Abstract Cholestatic liver diseases (CLD) are characterized by impaired normal bile flow, culminating in excessive accumulation of toxic bile acids. The majority of patients with CLD ultimately progress to liver cirrhosis and hepatic failure, necessitating liver transplantation due to the lack of effective treatment. Recent investigations have underscored the pivotal role of the gut microbiota-bile acid axis in the progression of hepatic fibrosis via various pathways. The obstruction of bile drainage can induce gut microbiota dysbiosis and disrupt the intestinal mucosal barrier, leading to bacteria translocation. The microbial translocation activates the immune response and promotes liver fibrosis progression. The identification of therapeutic targets for modulating the gut microbiota-bile acid axis represents a promising strategy to ameliorate or perhaps reverse liver fibrosis in CLD. This review focuses on the mechanisms in the gut microbiota-bile acids axis in CLD and highlights potential therapeutic targets, aiming to lay a foundation for innovative treatment approaches.

The TGF-β signaling pathway is closely associated with human health and disease, and the systematic identification of factors involved in the TGF-β signaling pathway significantly contributes to the understanding and treatment of various diseases. Through kinome-wide CRISPR screen, we identified 13 candidate regulatory targets. Notably, the well-known hallmark genes TGFBR1 and TGFBR2 emerged as the top two candidate targets. OXSR1 and EXOSC10 were ranked third and fourth as positive candidate targets, respectively, with EXOSC10 being a novel discovery. Importantly, our findings revealed the down-regulation of OXSR1 and EXOSC10 using CRISPR knockout and RNAi technology effectively suppressed the TGF-β signaling pathway in HeLa and HaCaT cells, providing new insights of TGF-β signaling.

ABSTRACT Importance Type D esophageal atresia (EA) with tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) is characterized by EA with both proximal and distal TEFs. It is a rare congenital anomaly with a very low incidence. Objective To investigate diagnostic and treatment strategies for this rare condition. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the clinicopathological features of patients with EA/TEF treated at our institution between January 2007 and September 2021. Results Among 386 patients with EA/TEF, 14 (3.6%) had type D EA/TEF. Only two patients were diagnosed with proximal TEF preoperatively. Seven patients were diagnosed intraoperatively. Five patients were missed for diagnosis during the initial surgery but was later confirmed by bronchoscopy. During the neonatal period, seven patients underwent a one‐stage repair of proximal and distal TEF via thoracoscopy or thoracotomy. Due to missed diagnosis and other reasons, the other 7 patients underwent two‐stage surgery for repair of the proximal TEF, including cervical incision and thoracoscopy. Ten of the 14 patients experienced postoperative complications including anastomotic leakage, pneumothorax, esophageal stricture, and recurrence. Patients who underwent one‐stage repair of distal and proximal TEF during the neonatal period showed a higher incidence of anastomotic leak (4/7). In contrast, only one of seven patients with two‐stage repair of the proximal TEF developed an anastomotic leak. Interpretation Type D EA/TEF is a rare condition, and proximal TEFs are easily missed. Bronchoscopy may aim to diagnose and determine the correct surgical approach. A cervical approach may be more suitable for repairing the proximal TEF.

Abstract Background Sufentanil in combination with dezocine or esketamine is often used for postoperative analgesia. However, there is a lack of clinical evidence of efficacy. This study compares the analgesic effects of esketamine and dezocine combined with sufentanil for relieving pain after laparoscopic cholecystectomy(LC). Methods A total of 58 patients were randomly assigned to the esketamine group (ES group) and dezocine group (DE group). In the ES group, 1.5 mg/kg esketamine was used. In the DE group, 0.3 mg/kg dezocine was used. Primary outcome measures were Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score at 4 h, 8 h, 24 h and 48 h after surgery. The second outcome measures were Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in the serum 10 minutes before anesthesia induction, and at 24 h and 48 h after surgery. Results The VAS scores at 4 h, 8 h, 24 h and 48 h after the surgery in the ES group vs DE group were 2.70 vs 3.50(P=0.013),2.35 vs 3.15(P=0.004),1.69 vs 2.58(P=0.002), and 1.50 vs 2.26(P=0.002), respectively. Abstract Background Harnessing hepatocytes for basic research and regenerative medicine demands a complete understanding of the genetic determinants underlying hepatocyte differentiation and maturation. Single-cell CRISPR screens in organoids could link genetic perturbations with parallel transcriptomic readout in single cells, providing a powerful method to delineate roles of cell fate regulators. However, a big challenge for identifying key regulators during data analysis is the low expression levels of transcription factors (TFs), which are difficult to accurately estimate due to noise and dropouts in single-cell sequencing. Also, it is often the changes in TF activities in the transcriptional cascade rather than the expression levels of TFs that are relevant to the cell fate transition. Results Here, we develop Organoid-based Single-cell CRISPR screening Analyzed with Regulons (OSCAR), a framework using regulon activities as readouts to dissect gene knockout effects in organoids. In adult-stem-cell-derived liver organoids, we map transcriptomes in 80,576 cells upon 246 perturbations associated with transcriptional regulation of hepatocyte formation. Using OSCAR, we identify known and novel positive and negative regulators, among which Fos and Ubr5 are the top-ranked ones. Further single-gene loss-of-function assays demonstrate that Fos depletion in mouse and human liver organoids promote hepatocyte differentiation by specific upregulation of liver metabolic genes and pathways, and conditional knockout of Ubr5 in mouse liver delays hepatocyte maturation. Conclusions Altogether, we provide a framework to explore lineage specifiers in a rapid and systematic manner, and identify hepatocyte determinators with potential clinical applications.

Abstract Osteosarcoma is the most common malignant bone tumor, tending to be aggressive and recurrent. The therapeutic development for treating osteosarcoma has been largely hampered by the lack of effective and specific targets. Using kinome-wide CRISPR-Cas9 knockout screens, we systematically revealed a cohort of kinases essential for the survival and growth of human osteosarcoma cells, in which Polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) appeared as a specific prominent hit. PLK1 knockout substantially inhibited proliferation of osteosarcoma cells in vitro and the tumor growth of osteosarcoma xenograft in vivo. Volasertib, a potent experimental PLK1 inhibitor, can effectively inhibit the growth of the osteosarcoma cell lines in vitro. It can also disrupt the development of tumors in the patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models in vivo. Furthermore, we confirmed that the mode of action (MoA) of volasertib is primarily mediated by the cell-cycle arrest and apoptosis triggered by DNA damage. As PLK1 inhibitors are entering phase III clinical trials, our findings provide important insights into the efficacy and MoA of the relevant therapeutic approach for combating osteosarcoma.

Ovarian cancer is one of the female reproductive system tumors. Chemotherapy is used for advanced ovarian cancer patients; however, drug resistance is a pivotal cause of chemotherapeutic failure. Hence, it is critical to explore the molecular mechanisms of drug resistance of ovarian cancer cells and to ameliorate chemoresistance. Noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) have been identified to critically participate in drug sensitivity in a variety of human cancers, including ovarian cancer. Among ncRNAs, circRNAs sponge miRNAs and prevent miRNAs from regulation of their target mRNAs. CircRNAs can interact with DNA or proteins to modulate gene expression. In this review, we briefly describe the biological functions of circRNAs in the development and progression of ovarian cancer. Moreover, we discuss the underneath regulatory molecular mechanisms of circRNAs on governing drug resistance in ovarian cancer. Furthermore, we mention the novel strategies to overcome drug resistance via targeting circRNAs in ovarian cancer. Due to that circRNAs play a key role in modulation of drug resistance in ovarian cancer, targeting circRNAs could be a novel approach for attenuation of chemoresistance in ovarian cancer.

Objective To analyze the hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection data of blood donors from 18 domestic blood stations, so as to investigate the HBV infection situation of blood donors. Methods The positive rate of HBV and its distribution characteristics of regions, the percentage of HBsAg+ ELISA in first-time vs repeated blood donors, and the percentage of HBsAg-/HBV DNA+ blood donors of 18 domestic blood stations during 2017 to 2020 were collected from the Working Platform for Practice Comparison of Blood Centers, and the HBV infection among blood donors were statistically analyzed. Results From 2017 to 2020, the positive rate of HBV in blood donors among 18 domestic blood stations was 13.48/10 000-144.02/10 000, with the average HBV positive rate in eastern, central and western region at 26.14/10 000, 51.98/10 000 and 41.00/10 000, respectively. The HBsAg+ rate by ELISA among first-time and repeated blood donors was 14.55/10 000-305.39/10 000 vs 1.04/10 000-87.43/10 000 The HBsAg-/HBV DNA+ yield was 1.80/10 000-35.31/10 000. Conclusion The distribution of HBV infection in blood donors has regional characteristics, and HBV prevalence was low in repeated blood donors. HBsAg ELISA combined with HBV DNA detection can better ensure blood safety.

BackgroundRetinal ganglion cells (RGCs) axon loss at the site of optic nerve head (ONH) is long believed as the common pathology in glaucoma since different types of glaucoma possessing different characteristic of intraocular pressure, and this damage was only detected at the later stage.MethodsTo address these disputes and detect early initiating events underlying RGCs, we firstly detected somatic or axonal change and compared their difference in acute and chronic phase of primary angle-closed glaucoma (PACG) patient using optical coherence tomography (OCT), then an axonal-enriched cytoskeletal protein neurofilament heavy chain and its phosphoforms (NF-H, pNF-H) were utilized to reveal spatio-temporal undetectable damage insulted by acute and chronic ocular hypertension (AOH, COH) in two well characterized glaucoma mice models.ResultsIn clinic, we detected nonhomogeneous changes such as ONH and soma of RGCs presenting edema in acute phase but atrophy in chronic one by OCT. In AOH animal models, an increase expression of NF-H especially its phosphorylation modification was observed as early as 4 h before RGCs loss, which presented as somatic accumulation in the peripheral retina and at the sites of ONH. In contrast, in microbeads induced COH model, NF-H and pNF-H reduced significantly, these changes firstly occurred as NF-H or pNF-H disconnection at ONH and optic nerve after 2 weeks when the intraocular pressure reaching the peak; Meanwhile, we detected aqueous humor pNF-H elevation after AOH and slight reduction in the COH.ConclusionTogether, our data supports that early alteration of NF-H and its phosphoforms would reveal undetectable subcellular damage consisting of peripheral somatic neurofilament compaction, impaired axonal transport and distal axonal disorganization of cytoskeleton beyond the ONH, and identifies two distinct axonal degeneration which were Wallerian combination with retrograde degeneration in acute PACG and retrograde degeneration in the chronic one.

AimsTo investigate the correlation between the retinal microvasculature using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and systemic factors in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients.MethodsThis cross-sectional study obtained OCTA data from patients with T2DM administered at hospital and referred to ophthalmic services. Patient data about demographics, comorbid conditions, and blood biomarkers were extracted from electronic medical records. Data from OCTA scans obtained by CIRRUS HD-OCT Model 5,000 were obtained. Vessel density (VD) and perfusion density (PD) within the superficial capillary plexus, and foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area were automatically segmented. These parameters were tested for their correlations with systemic factors by univariate and multivariable linear regression analyses.ResultsA total of 144 T2DM patients (236 eyes) were available for analysis, with mean age of 53.6 (SD = 10.34) and 56.9% were male. BackgroundBiliary atresia (BA) is the most common form of severe neonatal obstructive jaundice. The etiology and pathogenesis of BA are multifactorial, and different factors may interact to produce heterogeneous pathological features and clinical outcomes. Despite different pathological features, all patients received the same treatment strategy. This study performed integrative clustering analysis based on multiple high-throughput datasets to identify the molecular subtypes of BA and provide a new treatment strategy for personalized treatment of the different subtypes of BA.MethodsThe RNA sequence dataset GSE122340 in the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database was downloaded; 31 BA and 20 control normal liver tissues were collected at our center for transcriptome sequencing, and clinical and follow-up data of BA patients were available. Molecular subtypes were identified using integrated unsupervised cluster analysis involving gene expression, biliary fibrosis, and immune enrichment scores based on the transcriptome dataset, and the results were validated using independent datasets.ResultsBased on the results of the integrated unsupervised clustering analysis, four molecular subtypes were identified: autoimmune, inflammatory, virus infection-related, and oxidative stress. The autoimmune subtype with a moderate prognosis was dominated by autoimmune responses and morphogenesis, such as the Fc-gamma receptor and Wnt signaling pathway. The biological process of the inflammatory subtype was mainly the inflammatory response, with the best prognosis, youngest age at surgery, and lowest liver stiffness. The virus infection-related subtype had the worst prognosis and was enriched for a variety of biological processes such as viral infection, immunity, anatomical morphogenesis, and epithelial mesenchymal transition. The oxidative stress subtype was characterized by the activation of oxidative stress and various metabolic pathways and had a poor prognosis. The above results were verified independently in the validation sets.ConclusionsThis study identified four molecular subtypes of BA with distinct prognosis and biological processes. According to the pathological characteristics of the different subtypes, individualized perioperative and preoperative treatment may be a new strategy to improve the prognosis of BA.

BackgroundBiliary atresia (BA) is the most common cholestatic liver disease in neonates. Herein, we aimed at characterizing the gut microbiota and fecal bile acid profiles of BA patients, defining the correlations between them, and evaluating the relationship between the clinical pathogenesis and changes in the gut microbiota and bile acid profiles.MethodsA total of 84 fecal samples from BA patients (n = 46) and matched healthy controls (HCs, n = 38) were subjected to sequencing by 16S rRNA gene amplification, and fecal bile acid were analyzed by targeted metabolomics.FindingsCompared with the controls, a structural separation of the intestinal flora of BA patients was uncovered, which was accompanied by changes in the composition of fecal bile acids. In the BA group, Actinobacillus, Monoglobus, and Agathobacter were enriched in patients without cholangitis (p < 0.05). Selenomonadaceae and Megamonas were more abundant in patients without recurrent cholangitis episodes (p < 0.05), while Lachnospiraceae and Ruminococcaceae were enriched in patients with multiple recurrences of cholangitis (p < 0.05). Postoperative jaundice clearance was associated with Campylobacter and Rikenellaceae (p < 0.05), and tauroursodeoxycholic acid was associated with jaundice clearance (p < 0.001).ConclusionBA patients are characterized by different compositions of gut microbiota and bile acids, and their interaction is involved in the process of liver damage in BA, which may be closely related to the occurrence of postoperative cholangitis and jaundice clearance.

Abstract Background A number of studies have demonstrated the critical role of long non-coding RNA gastric cancer high expressed transcript 1 (GHET1) in many cancers. This meta-analysis provides an evidence-based evaluation of the prognostic role of GHET1 in cancer. Materials and methods Literature searches were conducted in several databases including Medline, Cochrane, EMBASE, CNKI, and Wanfang. The pooled odds ratio (OR) and hazard ratio (HR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to evaluate the role of GHET1 in cancer. The study protocol was registered at PROSPERO (ID: CRD42018111252). Results Sixteen studies, containing 1315 patients, were analyzed in this meta-analysis. The pooled results indicated that GHET1 overexpression was significantly associated with poor overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) in cancer. Moreover, up-regulation of GHET1 expression predicted larger tumor size, positive lymph node metastasis, positive distant metastasis, and advanced TNM (tumor-node-metastases) stage in human cancers. Conclusion There is a significant correlation between up-regulation of GHET1 and both poor prognosis and advanced clinicopathological cancer characteristics. GHET1 may be a potential prognostic predictor for human cancers.

Objectives: To examine the association between quarantine duration and psychological outcomes, social distancing, as well as vaccination intention during the second outbreak of COVID-19 in China.Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted in January 2021. Participants were invited to complete the measurement of quarantine duration, social distancing, psychological distress, wellbeing (WHO-5), and vaccination intention. Multiple linear regression and logistic regression were performed to examine the relationship between quarantine duration and psychological distress, wellbeing, social distancing, and vaccination intention.Results: Of the 944 participants, 17.2% of the participants experienced quarantine. Quarantine for 1–7 days increased the social distancing (β = 2.61 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.90–3.33) and vaccination intention (OR = 2.16 95% CI 1.22–3.82). Quarantine for >7 days was associated with the increased social distancing (β = 3.00 95% CI 2.37–3.64) and psychological distress (β = 1.03 95% CI 0.22–1.86), and decreased wellbeing (β = 1.27 95% CI 0.29–2.26).Conclusion: Longer quarantine duration showed increased social distancing, increased psychological distress, and decreased wellbeing. Quarantine for 1–7 days was associated with increased vaccination intention.

Exosomes are lipid membrane bilayer-encapsulated vesicles secreted by cells into the extracellular space. They carry abundant inclusions (such as nucleic acids, proteins, and lipids) that play pivotal roles in intercellular communication. Tumor stem cells are capable of self-renewal and are crucial for survival, proliferation, drug resistance, metastasis, and recurrence of tumors. The miRNAs (microRNAs) in exosomes have various functions, such as participating in inflammatory response, cell migration, proliferation, apoptosis, autophagy, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition. Tumor stem cells secrete exosomes that act as important messengers involved in various tumor processes and several studies provide increasing evidence supporting the importance of these exosomes in tumor recurrence and metastasis. This review primarily focuses on the production and secretion of exosomes from tumors and tumor stem cells and their effects on cancer progression. Cancer stem cancer derived exosome play an important massager in the tumor microenvironment. It also emphasizes on the study of tumor stem cell exosomes in the light of cancer metastasis and recurrence aiming to provide valuable insights and novel perspectives, which could be beneficial for developing effective diagnostic and treatment strategies.

Background. Propofol-induced injection pain is a common adverse effect during the induction of general anesthesia. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of low-dose esketamine in preventing propofol injection pain. Methods. In this double-blind, randomized, controlled trial, patients scheduled for elective ear surgery under general anesthesia received either normal saline (NS), or 40 mg lidocaine, or 0.15 mg/kg esketamine 30 seconds before manual injection of propofol. The primary outcome of this study was the incidence of propofol injection pain. The secondary outcomes included injection pain score, vital signs, total dosage of vasoactive drugs used within 5 minutes after induction, and adverse events related to drugs. Results. A total of 105 patients were included. Compared with the NS group (67%), pretreatment with esketamine and lidocaine significantly reduced the incidence of injection pain to 29% and 33%, respectively (both P

Counter-rotating vortex generators (VGs) are typically employed to delay airflow separation on wind turbine blades. Large-size wind turbine blades equipped with small size VGs make the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) researches require a great deal of computational resources. Parametric models of VGs can effectively improve the numerical research efficiency of wind turbine blades with VGs. In order to improve the accuracy of such parametric models, this study proposed a series of modeling approaches to determine the positions of the adding source term in Cartesian coordinates, the VG vortex core radius, etc., on the wind turbine airfoils. These techniques are integrated with a maximum circulation algorithm by considering the interactions between VG pairs to predict the performance of a DU91-W2-250 blade section with VGs. The proposed parametric model and an entity model at different angles of attack (AoAs) are implemented on the blade section. Our approach is validated using experimental data. Comparisons demonstrate a strong agreement between the modelled and experimental results, proving the high accuracy of the two models. The numerical results of the models are then compared and analyzed at different incoming flow velocities and AoAs to verify the universality of the proposed parametric approaches. The results reveal a high consistency between the vortex structure, the velocity profile above the blade surface and the distribution of the pressure coefficient calculated by the two models. This proves the high universality of the proposed approaches and demonstrates the potential of the parametric model in replacing the VG entity model. The VG parametric model expresses VG parameters by program, which can improve the research efficiency of VG arrangement on wind turbine blades.

The first Tropospheric Ozone Assessment Report (TOAR) provides information on present-day distributions and long-term trends of ozone metrics relevant for climate change, human health, and vegetation. However, only few results are available in TOAR for China due to limited long-term ozone observations. Here, we present an integrated analysis of long-term measurements of surface ozone from eight sites distributed in the North China Plain (NCP) and Yangtze River Delta (YRD), the relatively underdeveloped region Northeast China, and the remote regions in Northwest and Southwest China. Trends and present-day values for seven annual and five seasonal ozone metrics were calculated following the TOAR methodologies. We compare the seasonal and diurnal cycles of ozone concentrations as well as the present-day values of ozone among sites and discuss the long-term trends in the ozone metrics. Large and significant increases of ozone are detected at the background site in the NCP, moderate increases at the global baseline site in western China, significant decreases at the northwestern edge of China, and nearly no trend at other sites. Extremely high values of ozone occurred in the NCP and YRD, particularly in warmer seasons. The present-day levels of summer ozone metrics in the NCP are much higher than the thresholds set in TOAR for the highest value groups of ozone metrics. The summer ozone metrics at the Shangdianzi background site in the NCP indicate increases at rates of more than 2%/yr during 2004–2016. In contrast, ozone at the Lin’an background site in the YRD was constant over the period 2006–2016. Our results fill some knowledge gaps in spatiotemporal changes of ozone in China and may be of useful in the assessment of ozone impacts on human health and vegetation.

A newly emerged coronavirus (COVID-19) seriously threatens human life and health worldwide. In coping and fighting against COVID-19, the most critical step is to effectively screen and diagnose infected patients. Among them, chest X-ray imaging technology is a valuable imaging diagnosis method. The use of computer-aided diagnosis to screen X-ray images of COVID-19 cases can provide experts with auxiliary diagnosis suggestions, which can reduce the burden of experts to a certain extent. In this study, we first used conventional transfer learning methods, using five pre-trained deep learning models, which the Xception model showed a relatively ideal effect, and the diagnostic accuracy reached 96.75%. In order to further improve the diagnostic accuracy, we propose an efficient diagnostic method that uses a combination of deep features and machine learning classification. It implements an end-to-end diagnostic model. The proposed method was tested on two datasets and performed exceptionally well on both of them. We first evaluated the model on 1102 chest X-ray images. The experimental results show that the diagnostic accuracy of Xception + SVM is as high as 99.33%. Compared with the baseline Xception model, the diagnostic accuracy is improved by 2.58%. The sensitivity, specificity and AUC of this model reached 99.27%, 99.38% and 99.32%, respectively. To further illustrate the robustness of our method, we also tested our proposed model on another dataset. Finally also achieved good results. Compared with related research, our proposed method has higher classification accuracy and efficient diagnostic performance. Overall, the proposed method substantially advances the current radiology based methodology, it can be very helpful tool for clinical practitioners and radiologists to aid them in diagnosis and follow-up of COVID-19 cases.

Abstract Background Myxoid liposarcoma has a distinct migration aptitude; however, pancreatic metastasis is rare. Case presentation We report on the case of a 40-year-old female patient who suffered solitary pancreatic metastasis of myxoid liposarcoma and had a right thigh myxoid liposarcoma radical resection 5 years ago. The patient underwent a medial pancreatectomy and pancreaticojejunostomy for solitary pancreatic metastasis of myxoid liposarcoma. After 12 months of disease-free survival, the patient underwent an extended radical resection for the recurrence of the right thigh primary myxoid liposarcoma and received postoperative radiotherapy. Currently, the disease-free survival time after the last operation has been 22 months. Conclusions We reviewed the relevant literature and suggest that radical surgery might result in a good prognosis for patients with solitary pancreatic metastasis of myxoid liposarcoma.

Investment banks such as Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, and Salomon Brothers dominated the world of financial advice for more than a decade. However, via the popularity of the Internet and financial social networks such as StockTwits and SeekingAlpha, investors around the world have new opportunity to gather and share their experiences. Individual experts can predict the movement of the stock market in financial social networks with the reasonable accuracy, but what is the sentiment of a mass group of these expert authors towards various stocks? In this paper, we seek to determine if Deep Learning models can be adapted to improve the performance of sentiment analysis for StockTwits. We applied several neural network models such as long short-term memory, doc2vec, and convolutional neural networks, to stock market opinions posted in StockTwits. Our results show that Deep Learning model can be used effectively for financial sentiment analysis and a convolutional neural network is the best model to predict sentiment of authors in StockTwits dataset.

A superhydrophobic macroporous material composed of hollow hemispherical MXene (HSMX) was synthesized by the thermal annealing of MXene-wrapped cationic polystyrene spheres (CPS@MXene). Notably, the spherical MXene shells exhibited highly efficient catalysis of the carbonization of CPS into carbon nanoparticles. Their insertion into the interlayer of MXene increased the d-spacing and created hollow hemispheres. The as-prepared HSMX with nanoscale walls had a lower packing density than MXene, but higher porosity, total pore volume, and total pore area. Moreover, the stacking of hollow hemispheres promoted the formation of a highly undulating macroporous surface and significantly improved the surface roughness of the HSMX-based 3D membrane, resulting in superhydrophobicity with a water contact angle of 156.4° and a rolling angle of 6°. As a result, the membrane exhibited good separation efficiency and Flux for emulsifier-stabilized water-in-paraffin liquid emulsions, which was dependent on its superhydrophobic performance and strong demulsification ability derived from the razor effect originating from the ultrathin walls of HSMX. This work provides a facile approach for the transformation of highly hydrophilic 2D MXene into superhydrophobic 3D HSMX, and opens a new pathway for the development of advanced MXene-based materials for environmental remediation applications.

Abstract Text similarity measurement aims to find the commonality existing among text documents, which is fundamental to most information extraction, information retrieval, and text mining problems. Cosine similarity based on Euclidean distance is currently one of the most widely used similarity measurements. However, Euclidean distance is generally not an effective metric for dealing with probabilities, which are often used in text analytics. In this paper, we propose a new similarity measure based on sqrt-cosine similarity. We apply the proposed improved sqrt-cosine similarity to a variety of document-understanding tasks, such as text classification, clustering, and query search. Comprehensive experiments are then conducted to evaluate our new similarity measurement in comparison to existing methods. These experimental results show that our proposed method is indeed effective.

A novel two-layer predictive control scheme for a continuous biodiesel transesterification reactor is presented. Based on a validated mechanistic model, the least squares (LS) algorithm is used to identify the finite step response (FSR) process model adapted in the controller. The two-layer predictive control method achieves the steady-state optimal setpoints and resolves the multivariable dynamic control problems synchronously. Simulation results show that the two-layer predictive control strategy leads to a significant improvement of control performance in terms of the optimal set-points tracking and disturbances rejection, as compared to conventional PID controller within a multiloop framework.

In order to shorten the deflagration-to-detonation transition (DDT) distance of the pulse detonation combustion chamber, an experimental study of the effect of pneumatic atomization injector modification on atomization particle size amd gas-liquid two-phase U-bend pulse detonation combustion (U-PDC) chamber was carried out. Gasoline and air were used as fuel and oxidizer, and the atomization particle size was tested and the detonation characteristics of the U-PDC were obtained using the pneumatic atomization injector before and after the modification. The results show that the atomization size range of the injector before the modification is 111.6~152.9 µm, after the modification of the injector atomization size range of 76.4~107.2 µm, atomization size than before the modification is significantly reduced. The U-PDC using the injector before and after the modification can achieve stable operation in the range of 10~30 Hz, and the DDT distance shortened with the increase in frequency. At an operating frequency of 30 Hz, the DDT distance of U-PDC with the injector before modification is about 676 mm, and the DDT distance of U-PDC with injector after modification is shortened by 8.9% to about 616 mm. In addition, under the same operating conditions, due to the better atomization effect of the injector after modification, The fuel flow rate of U-PDC with the injector after modification is 5~10% smaller than that with the injector before modification when the average detonation pressure reaches its maximum value during the adjustment of fuel-flow.
