Continuum reverberation mapping is widely used in studying the accretion disks of active galactic nuclei (AGNs). Some indirect evidence and simulations have indicated that the diffuse continuum, especially the strong Balmer continuum from the broad-line region, may contribute to the continuum in the u / U band. Here, we present direct evidence for this contribution. In this work, we apply the ICCF-Cut method to continuum reverberation mapping to extract the possible diffuse continuum light curves of six AGNs, using high-cadence, high-quality, and multiband observations. We find the existence of an outer component out of the accretion disk for each of the six AGNs in the Swift U band. Meanwhile, similar results can be derived with the JAVELIN Photometric Reverberation Mapping Model for four of them. The lags of the outer components are consistent with the predicted Balmer continuum lags, which are about half of the H β lag values. Our result directly reinforces the understanding that an outer component, especially the Balmer continuum in the rest-frame u / U band, can contribute significantly to the continuum reverberation lags of AGNs. Objective To analyze the coupling and coordination relationship between the supply of medical resources and the utilization of medical services in Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle from 2016 to 2021, so as to provide reference for optimizing the allocation of medical resources. Methods Based on the comprehensive evaluation index system of medical resources supply and service utilization, a comprehensive evaluation model and a coupling coordination degree model were constructed to analyze the coupling and coordination relationship between medical resources supply and service utilization in Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle from 2016 to 2021. With the use of exploratory spatial data analysis, the spatial-temporal evolution characteristics of medical resources coupling coordination were analyzed. Results From 2016 to 2021, the development levels of medical resources supply and service utilization in Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle were 0.11-0.13 and 0.14-0.15, respectively, and the relative degree of development changed from shortage of medical resources (0.78) to mutual complement and promotion of development (0.92). However, the proportion of cities subject to lagging supply of medical resources was still large (68.8% in 2021). The level of coupling coordination changed from 0.47 to barely coordinated development. By 2021, only Chongqing and Chengdu had a good coordinated development. The LISA diagram showed that the "high-high" areas increased year by year, and the "cold point" effect disappeared, but there was still a "highland" phenomenon centered on Nanchong. Conclusion The development level of medical resource supply and service utilization in Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle is stable and rising, but the overall level is low and the regional gap is obvious. The coupling coordination level needs to be further improved, which is mainly limited by the lagging supply of medical resources. Introduction: Whether airway‐compromised airway–esophageal fistula (AEF) patients should undergo combined airway and esophageal stenting is controversial. This study was designed to evaluate the survival prognosis and poststent interventions in AEF patients with airways compromised by advanced malignancy with or without airway stents. Methods: A retrospective analysis of the medical records, survival times, and poststent interventions of 17 patients with or without airway stents was performed. Results: The causes of AEF were esophageal cancer (11/17, 64.7%), lung cancer (6/17, 29.4%), and thyroid cancer (1/17, 5.9%). All patients received a nasogastric tube (n = 12) or underwent gastrostomy (n = 5) to resume enteral nutrition. Thirteen patients underwent airway stent insertion (13/17, 76.5%), whereas four patients did not. Four patients with a high risk of stent migration received external stent fixation to the trachea. Three of the patients with stents suffered severe granulation tissue formation and needed repeated bronchoscopy interventions. In the stented group, none of the patients developed stent migration, and the overall median survival time was 9 months, compared with 1.25 months in the nonstented group (P = 0.04). Cox proportional hazards regression revealed that stent insertion, nasogastric tube insertion, and transcatheter bronchial artery chemoembolization were protective factors against death, whereas surgery‐related fistula, fistula larger than 2 cm, continued chemotherapy, and age were risk factors for poor survival (P < 0.05). Conclusion: In airway‐compromised AEF patients, airway stents and nasogastric tubes are probably the preferred treatments. The stress intensity factor (SIF) is the foundation of fracture mechanics analysis. Accurate determination of SIFs is at the very heart of damage tolerance design and fatigue crack growth life prediction. The weight function method (WFM) is a powerful method for SIF‐determination involving complex load conditions. This article presents a review of the historical development over the past five decades and the current state‐of‐the‐art in three‐dimensional (3D) WFMs. The discussions are focused on the slice synthesis weight function method (SSWFM) and the point weight function method (PWFM). The powerfulness of the 3D WFMs is shown by a variety of examples with complex part‐through crack configurations under uni‐ and bi‐variant loadings. Solution accuracy is verified by comparisons of SIFs with various numerical methods. Use of the substitute geometry concept to expand the capability of 3D WFMs for solving real‐world engineering 3D crack problems is demonstrated. Some remaining challenges are briefly discussed. Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP) is a rare lung disease characterized by the accumulation of large amounts of phospholipid protein-like surfactant material in the alveolar spaces, leading to severe hypoxemia and respiratory failure. The disease has an insidious onset and is difficult to diagnose in the early stages. Its clinical manifestations primarily include progressive dyspnea and coughing. Currently, whole lung lavage (WLL) is the preferred and effective treatment for PAP, as it improves alveolar ventilation function. Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor is used clinically in the treatment of a variety of disease. Nebulized granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) has a certain therapeutic effect on PAP. Here, we report a case of PAP treated with WLL combined with nebulized GM-CSF, which achieved good therapeutic effects during a 4-year follow-up period, to enhance understanding of the disease. Background: Patients frequently die from cardiac causes after radiotherapy for esophageal cancer. Early detection of cardiac death risk in these patients is crucial to improve clinical decision‐making and prognosis. Thus, we modeled the risk of cardiac death after irradiation for esophageal cancer. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 37,599 esophageal cancer cases treated with radiotherapy in the SEER database between 2000 and 2018 was performed. The selected cases were randomly assigned to the model development group (n = 26,320) and model validation group (n = 11,279) at a ratio of 7:3. We identified the risk factors most commonly associated with cardiac death by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression analysis (LASSO). The endpoints for model development and validation were 5‐ and 10‐year survival rates. The net clinical benefit of the models was evaluated by decision curve analysis (DCA) and concordance index (C‐index). The performance of the models was further assessed by creating a receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) and calculating the area under the curve (AUC). Kaplan‐Meier (K‐M) survival analysis was performed on the probability of death. Patients were classified according to death probability thresholds. Five‐ and ten‐year survival rates for the two groups were shown using K‐M curves. Results: The major risk factors for cardiac death were age, surgery, year of diagnosis, sequence of surgery and radiotherapy, chemotherapy and a number of tumors, which were used to create the nomogram. The C‐indexes of the nomograms were 0.708 and 0.679 for the development and validation groups, respectively. DCA showed the good net clinical benefit of nomograms in predicting 5‐ and 10‐year risk of cardiac death. The model exhibited moderate predictive power for 5‐ and 10‐year cardiac mortality (AUC: 0.833 and 0.854, respectively), and for the development and validation cohorts (AUC: 0.76 and 0.813, respectively). Conclusions: Our nomogram may assist clinicians in making clinical decisions about patients undergoing radiotherapy for esophageal cancer based on early detection of cardiac death risk. The environment of a γ -ray burst has an important influence on the evolution of jet dynamics and its afterglow. Here we investigate the afterglow polarizations in a stratified medium with the equal arrival time surface (EATS) effect. Polarizations of multiband afterglows are predicted. The effects of the parameters of the stratified medium on the afterglow polarizations are also investigated. We found the influences of the EATS effect on the afterglow polarizations become important for off-axis detections and polarization degree (PD) bumps move to later times with the EATS effect. Even if the magnetic field configurations, jet structure, and observational angles are fixed, polarization properties of the jet emission could still evolve. Here, we assume a large-scale ordered magnetic field in the reverse-shock region and a two-dimensional random field in the forward-shock region. Then, PD evolution is mainly determined by the evolution of the f 32 parameter (the flux ratio between the reverse-shock region and forward-shock region) at the early stage and by the evolution of the bulk Lorentz factor γ at the late stage. Through the influences on the f 32 or γ, the observational energy band, observational angles, and the parameters of the stratified medium will finally affect the afterglow polarizations. Adverse drug events (ADEs) are common in clinical practice and can cause significant harm to patients and increase resource use. Natural language processing (NLP) has been applied to automate ADE detection, but NLP systems become less adaptable when drug entities are missing or multiple medications are specified in clinical narratives. Additionally, no Chinese-language NLP system has been developed for ADE detection due to the complexity of Chinese semantics, despite ˃10 million cases of drug-related adverse events occurring annually in China. To address these challenges, we propose DKADE, a deep learning and knowledge graph-based framework for identifying ADEs. DKADE infers missing drug entities and evaluates their correlations with ADEs by combining medication orders and existing drug knowledge. Moreover, DKADE can automatically screen for new adverse drug reactions. Experimental results show that DKADE achieves an overall F1-score value of 91.13%. Furthermore, the adaptability of DKADE is validated using real-world external clinical data. In summary, DKADE is a powerful tool for studying drug safety and automating adverse event monitoring. Selecting suitable promoters to drive gene overexpression can provide significant insight into the development of engineered bacteria. In this study, we analyzed the transcriptome data of Burkholderia pyrrocinia JK-SH007 and identified 54 highly expressed genes. The promoter sequences were located using genome-wide data and scored using the prokaryotic promoter prediction software BPROM to further screen out 18 promoter sequences. We also developed a promoter trap system based on two reporter proteins adapted for promoter optimization in B. pyrrocinia JK-SH007: firefly luciferase encoded by the luciferase gene set (Luc) and trimethoprim (TP)-resistant dihydrofolate reductase (TPr). Ultimately, eight constitutive promoters were successfully inserted into the probe vector and transformed into B. pyrrocinia JK-SH007. The transformants were successfully grown on Tp antibiotic plates, and firefly luciferase expression was determined by measuring the relative light unit (RLU). Five of the promoters (P4, P9, P10, P14, and P19) showed 1.01–2.51-fold higher activity than the control promoter λ phage transcriptional promoter (PRPL). The promoter activity was further validated via qPCR analysis, indicating that promoters P14 and P19 showed stable high transcription levels at all time points. Then, GFP and RFP proteins were overexpressed in JK-SH007. In addition, promoters P14 and P19 were successfully used to drive gene expression in Burkholderia multivorans WS-FJ9 and Escherichia coli S17-1. SUMMARY: Plant diseases worsen the threat of food shortage with the growing global population, and disease recognition is the basis for the effective prevention and control of plant diseases. Deep learning has made significant breakthroughs in the field of plant disease recognition. Compared with traditional deep learning, meta‐learning can still maintain more than 90% accuracy in disease recognition with small samples. However, there is no comprehensive review on the application of meta‐learning in plant disease recognition. Here, we mainly summarize the functions, advantages, and limitations of meta‐learning research methods and their applications for plant disease recognition with a few data scenarios. Finally, we outline several research avenues for utilizing current and future meta‐learning in plant science. This review may help plant science researchers obtain faster, more accurate, and more credible solutions through deep learning with fewer labeled samples. With the significant progress in deep‐learning based plant disease detection, disease diagnose is gradually intelligent. However, traditional deep‐learning has limited the existing research development because of the great demand for samples, time and effort consumption, and the lack of migration between models. Reaction of [Au(tht)2](ClO4) (tht = tetrahydrothiophene), [Cu(CH3CN)4](ClO4), 3,6-di-tert-butyl-1,8-diethynyl-9H-carbazole (H3decz), and bis(2-diphenylphosphinophenyl)ether (POP) in the presence of triethylamine (NEt3) gave the cluster complex Au4Cu2(decz)2(POP)2 as yellow crystals. As revealed by X-ray crystallography, the Au4Cu2 cluster exhibits scissor-like structure sustained by two decz and two POP ligands and stabilized by Au-Cu and Au-Au interactions. The Au4Cu2 cluster shows bright yellow to orange photoluminescence upon irradiation at >300 nm, arising from 3[π (decz)→5d (Au)] 3LMCT (ligand-to-metal charge transfer) and 3[π→π* (decz)] 3IL (intraligand) triplet states as revealed by theoretical and computational studies. When it is mechanically ground, reversible phosphorescence conversion from yellow to red is observed owing to more compact molecular packing and thus stronger intermetallic interaction. Variable-temperature luminescence studies reveal that it displays distinct red-shifts of the emission whether the temperature is elevated or lowered from ambient temperature, suggestive of exceptional thermochromic phosphorescence characteristics. The aim of this study was to explore the feasibility of Raman spectroscopy combined with computer algorithms in the diagnosis of primary Sjögren syndrome (pSS). In this study, Raman spectra of 60 serum samples were acquired from 30 patients with pSS and 30 healthy controls (HCs). The means and standard deviations of the raw spectra of patients with pSS and HCs were calculated. Spectral features were assigned based on the literature. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to extract the spectral features. Then, a particle swarm optimization (PSO)-support vector machine (SVM) was selected as the method of parameter optimization to rapidly classify patients with pSS and HCs. In this study, the SVM algorithm was used as the classification model, and the radial basis kernel function was selected as the kernel function. In addition, the PSO algorithm was used to establish a model for the parameter optimization method. The training set and test set were randomly divided at a ratio of 7:3. After PCA dimension reduction, the specificity, sensitivity and accuracy of the PSO-SVM model were obtained, and the results were 88.89%, 100% and 94.44%, respectively. This study showed that the combination of Raman spectroscopy and a support vector machine algorithm could be used as an effective pSS diagnosis method with broad application value. The gene changes for diagnosis and prognosis of diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) still remain unclear. RAC1 was reported to be asso;ciated with the B cell receptor signal pathway, but its relations with DLBCL have not yet been systematically explored. In this study, we have conducted molecular, bioinformatics and clinical analyses by using publicly available data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Wilcoxon signed-rank test and logistic regression were performed to evaluate the association between RAC1 and clinical features in patients. Kaplan–Meier and Cox regression methods were used to examine the impacts of RAC1 expression level on overall survival, and a nomogram was performed to illustrate the correlation between RAC1 and the risk of DLBCL. Our results revealed that the expression level of RAC1 in DLBCL was higher than that in normal tissues or lymphadenitis. High-level expression of RAC1 was significantly associated with clinical stage, as well as being an independent factor affecting overall survival. RAC1 was negatively correlated with Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK). The association between RAC1 gene expression and the risk of DLBCL was presented in a nomogram. Camellia oil contains a variety of active substances, which have the functions of strengthening the heart and lowering cholesterol, and can prevent a variety of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases caused by vascular sclerosis edible oil. Based on the logistics model, this paper builds a research model on the influencing factors of consumption and purchase intention and analyzes the coastal areas of camellia oil. Using this model, it makes an empirical analysis and research on the differences in the purchase intention and influencing factors of different consumers of camellia oil. Based on the results of empirical analysis, the main research conclusions of this paper are extracted, including the influencing factors of consumers' camellia oil purchase willingness and the differences in the influencing factors of consumers' camellia oil purchase willingness under different income levels, and put forward some corresponding measures and policy suggestions in a targeted manner. Based on the research model of the influencing factors of purchase intention established by logistic algorithm, this paper analyzes the coastal areas of Chashan oil and finds that the factors affecting consumers' purchase intention are positively related to education and personal monthly income and negatively related to gender. "Educational education" is significant at 1% and has a positive correlation with a coefficient of 0.864; personal income is significant at 5% with a coefficient of 0.762; for gender, it is negatively correlated with a coefficient of -0.259, indicating that other variables remain unchanged. Education can promote consumers' willingness to buy camellia oil, and consumers with higher education are more likely to buy camellia oil. In the same regression prediction model, the regression prediction efficiency of this model is better. In general, this shows that the model in this paper has certain superior performance. As one of the most common malignancies, gastric cancer (GC) is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in China. GC is asymptomatic in early stages, and the majority of GC mortality is due to delayed symptoms. It is an urgent task to find reliable biomarkers for the identification of GC in order to improve outcomes. A combination of dried blood spot sampling and direct infusion mass spectrometry (MS) technology was used to measure blood metabolic profiles for 166 patients with GC and 183 healthy individuals, and 93 metabolites including amino acids, carnitine/acylcarnitines and their derivatives, and related ratios were quantified. Multiple algorithms were used to characterize the changes of metabolic profiles in patients with GC compared to healthy individuals. A biomarker panel was identified in training set, and assessed by tenfold cross-validation and external test data set. After systematic selection of 93 metabolites, a biomarker panel consisting of Ala, Arg, Gly, Orn, Tyr/Cit, Val/Phe, C4-OH, C5/C3, C10:2 shows the potential to distinguish patients with GC from healthy individuals in tenfold cross-validation model (sensitivity: 0.8750, specificity: 0.9006) and test set (sensitivity: 0.9545, specificity: 0.8636). Cancer is a complex disease with usually multiple disease mechanisms. Target combination is a better strategy than a single target in developing cancer therapies. However, target combinations are generally more difficult to be predicted. Current CRISPR-cas9 technology enables genome-wide screening for potential targets, but only a handful of genes have been screend as target combinations. Thus, an effective computational approach for selecting candidate target combinations is highly desirable. Selected target combinations also need to be translational between cell lines and cancer patients. We have therefore developed DSCN (double-targetselection guided byCRISPR screening andnetwork), a method that matches expression levels in patients and gene essentialities in cell lines through spectral-clustered protein-protein interaction (PPI) network. In DSCN, a sub-sampling approach is developed to model first-target knockdown and its impact on the PPI network, and it also facilitates the selection of a second target. Our analysis first demonstrated a high correlation of the DSCN sub-sampling-based gene knockdown model and its predicted differential gene expressions using observed gene expression in 22 pancreatic cell lines before and after MAP2K1 and MAP2K2 inhibition (R2 = 0.75). In DSCN algorithm, various scoring schemes were evaluated. The 'diffusion-path' method showed the most significant statistical power of differentialting known synthetic lethal (SL) versus non-SL gene pairs (P = 0.001) in pancreatic cancer. The superior performance of DSCN over existing network-based algorithms, such as OptiCon and VIPER, in the selection of target combinations is attributable to its ability to calculate combinations for any gene pairs, whereas other approaches focus on the combinations among optimized regulators in the network. DSCN's computational speed is also at least ten times fast than that of other methods. Finally, in applying DSCN to predict target combinations and drug combinations for individual samples (DSCNi), DSCNi showed high correlation between target combinations predicted and real synergistic combinations (P = 1e-5) in pancreatic cell lines. In summary, DSCN is a highly effective computational method for the selection of target combinations. Author summary: Cancer therapies require targets to function. Compared to a single target, a target combination is a better strategy for developing cancer therapies. However, predicting target combination is more complicated than predicting a single target. Current CRISPR technology enables whole-genome screening of potential targets. But most of the experiments have been conducted on a single target (gene) level. To facilitate the discovery of novel target (combinations), we developed DSCN (double-targetselection guided byCRISPR screening andnetwork) that utilize single target-level CRISPR screening data and expression profiles for predicting target combinations by connecting cell-line omics-data with tissue omics-data. DSCN showed great accuracy on different cancer types and superior performance compared to existing network-based prediction tools. We also introduced DSCNi derived from DSCN and designed specifically for predicting target combinations for single-tient patient. Our results showed synergistic target combinations predicted by DSCNi accurately reflected synergies on drug combination levels. Ketamine, as a non-competitive antagonist of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors, was originally used in general anesthesia. Epidemiological data show that ketamine has become one of the most commonly abused drugs in China. Ketamine administration might cause cognitive impairment; however, its molecular mechanism remains unclear. The glymphatic system is a lymphoid system that plays a key role in metabolic waste removal and cognitive regulation in the central nervous system. Focusing on the glymphatic system, this study evaluated the behavioral performance and circulatory function of the glymphatic system by building a short-term ketamine administration model in mice, and detected the expression levels of the 5-HT2c receptor, ΔFosb, Pten, Akt, and Aqp4 in the hippocampus. Primary astrocytes were cultured to verify the regulatory relationships among related indexes using a 5-HT2c receptor antagonist, a 5-HT2c receptor short interfering RNA (siRNA), and a ΔFosb siRNA. Ketamine administration induced ΔFosb accumulation by increasing 5-HT2c receptor expression in mouse hippocampal astrocytes and primary astrocytes. ΔFosb acted as a transcription factor to recognize the AATGATTAAT bases in the 5′ regulatory region of the Aqp4 gene (−1096 bp to −1087 bp), which inhibited Aqp4 expression, thus causing the circulatory dysfunction of the glymphatic system, leading to cognitive impairment. Although this regulatory mechanism does not involve the Pten/Akt pathway, this study revealed a new mechanism of ketamine-induced cognitive impairment in non-neuronal systems, and provided a theoretical basis for the safety of clinical treatment and the effectiveness of withdrawal. To analyze the effect of sandplay (SP) therapy on the mental health level of college students. 500 college students were openly recruited, using the University Student Mental Health Questionnaire (UPI) to screen out 76 students in the UPI category. 34 college students were randomly selected and divided into two groups, 17 in the control group and 17 in the SP therapy group (experimental group); the control group received no treatment, and the experimental group was treated with SP therapy, to analyze the differences between groups before and after the intervention of SCL-90 and self-made group self-reflection questionnaire. (1) With a detection rate of 15.2 percent, 76 of the 500 college students solicited openly were identified as UPI students; (2) except for the terror factor, there were significant differences in other aspects and overall scores for the experimental group following SP therapy intervention, and the scores reduced. There were no significant differences in the total scores and scores of all factors in the control group (P > 0.05). The overall score, somatization, interpersonal connection, depression, paranoia, and psychosis were all significantly different between the experimental and control groups in the independent sample t -test (P < 0.05). Blockchain technology is an emerging technology developed in recent years. It has powerful information traceability function. The blockchain technology plays an important role in monitoring product quality and responding to product safety problems. Under considering the traceability awareness of consumers and the cost of using the blockchain technology, should the supply chain adopt the blockchain technology? The research on this issue deserves great attentions. In this paper, for a three-stage supply chain consisting of a supplier, a manufacturer and a retailer, we study the optimal pricing strategies of the supply chain considering the traceability awareness of consumers in two scenarios. These two scenarios are: scenario N (i.e., the supply chain does not adopt the blockchain technology) and scenario B (i.e., the supply chain adopts the blockchain technology). On this basis, we discuss the conditions that the supply chain adopts the blockchain technology by comparing the optimal profits of the supply chain and its members in two scenarios. Further, we discuss the problem of supply chain coordination when adopting the blockchain technology. The results show that it is conditional for the supply chain to adopt the blockchain technology, and the condition is related to the traceability awareness of consumers, the production costs of the supplier and manufacturer, and the cost of using the blockchain technology. "Changing-look" active galactic nuclei (CL-AGNs) are a newly discovered class of AGNs that show the appearance (or disappearance) of broad emission lines within short timescales (months to years), and are often associated with dramatic changes in their continuum emissions. They provide us with an unprecedented chance to directly investigate the host galaxy properties with minimal contamination from the luminous central engine during the turn-off state, which is difficult for normal luminous AGNs. In this work, for the first time, we systematically characterize the stellar populations and star formation histories of host galaxies for 26 turn-off CL-AGNs using the stellar population synthesis code STARLIGHT. We find that the stellar populations of CL-AGNs are similar to those of normal AGNs, except that the intermediate stellar populations contribute more fractions. We estimate their stellar velocity dispersions (σ⋆) and black hole masses (MBH,vir), and find that CL-AGNs also follow the overall MBH–σ⋆ relationship. We also confirm the previous claims that CL-AGNs tend to be biased toward lower Eddington ratios, and that their extreme variabilities are more likely due to the intrinsic changes of the accretion rates. In addition, CL-AGNs with recent star formations tend to have higher Eddington ratios. In this study, high-resolution anthropogenic heat release (AHR) due to energy consumption is considered in Community Earth System Model version 1 (CESM1) to explore possible climatic effects and physical mechanisms due to AHR in eastern China (EC) in boreal summer. The results show that the heating effect of AHR on the lower atmosphere leads to an increase in the temperature difference between land and ocean, causing changes in atmospheric circulation and water vapor transport in EC in boreal summer. AHR affects the lower-troposphere stability and low clouds, impacting the surface energy balance. This will affect the surface temperature and further increase the occurrence of extreme high temperatures. The modeling results show that in the central part of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Inner Mongolia regions, the relative humidity increases by more than 1% due to AHR, leading to a decrease in low cloud cover. In the Middle-Lower Yangtze region, low clouds decrease by 2–3%, while the net shortwave radiation flux at the surface increases by approximately 5%. AHR leads to an increase of 0.19 K in the 2 m air temperature in the 25°N-35°N regions of EC on average in boreal summer, which will further impact the summer extreme high temperature in the Middle-Lower Yangtze Region. Here, we reported a cost-effective and easily scalable metal–organic framework (MOF), BUT-316-a (BUT = Beijing University of Technology), with unprecedented local-molecule-trap (LMT) for the preferential adsorption of C 2 H 2 over CO 2. Attributed to the existence of the LMT, high density of open metal sites (OMSs), and microporous pore structure, BUT-316-a combines high uptake (117.6 cm3 cm−3) and packing density of C 2 H 2 (0.36 g mL−1), coupled with good C 2 H 2 /CO 2 selectivity (17.2). The practical separation performance of BUT-316-a toward C 2 H 2 /CO 2 mixture and the associated host–guest interactions within the LMT were further unveiled by dynamic breakthrough experiments and theoretical calculations, respectively. The direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) is an efficient and non-polluting green energy conversion device. However, the electrocatalysts for the anodic methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) in DMFC are often precious metal catalysts, which suffer from high cost, poor stability, and easy deactivation. In this work, two isostructural metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) [M 3 (μ 3 -OH)(TATB)(Nic) 2 (H 2 O) 2 (DMA)] (M = Co, Ni) were successfully synthesized under solvothermal conditions. Both frameworks possess a unique trinuclear cluster [M 3 (μ 3 -OH)(COO) 5 ] secondary building unit (SBU) and a rare binodal (3,7)-connected network. Due to the high density of metal sites and prominent pore system within CTGU-36-Ni, it can serve as an effective molecular electrocatalyst for MOR, while CTGU-36-Co is an inert material. Further experimental results showed that the introduction of conductive substances could lead to a significant increase in the MOR area activity of CTGU-36-Ni. This work not only provides a non-noble metal molecular MOR electrocatalyst but also opens a new vision for the design and application of crystalline materials in various energy conversion processes. We conducted simulations with a 4‐km resolution for Hurricane Joaquin in 2015 using the weather research and forecast (WRF) model. The model data are used to study stratospheric gravity waves (GWs) generated by the hurricane and how they correlate with hurricane intensity. The simulation results show spiral GWs propagating upward and anticlockwise away from the hurricane center. GWs with vertical wavelengths up to 14 km are generated. We find that GW activity is more frequent and intense during hurricane intensification than during weakening, particularly for the most intense GW activity. There are significant correlations between the change of stratospheric GW intensity and hurricane intensity. Therefore, the emergence of intensive stratospheric GW activity may be considered a useful proxy for identifying hurricane intensification. Plain Language Summary: Accurate predictions of changes in hurricane intensity are essential to provide sufficient lead time for warning and evacuation. As a hurricane intensifies, gravity waves (GWs) are emitted into the stratosphere to partially rebalance the sudden energy changes. If a correlation between hurricane intensification and GWs is verified, observing stratospheric GWs with satellite instruments could provide a possible predictor of hurricane intensification. This approach is advantageous when clouds obscure the direct view from above by visible and infrared instruments into the inner state of the hurricane. This study uses mesoscale model simulations to test and verify the correlation between hurricane intensification and GWs and finds that stratospheric GW activity increases prior to peaks in hurricane intensity. The in situ solidification of soft clay deposits and reclamation of dredged clays are challenging due to the high water content and low strength. An eco-friendly ionic soil stabilizer (ISS) was used to stabilize a saturated soft mucky clay with high water content. The ISS-solidification effect was investigated by a series of physical and mechanical tests and microscopic tests. The results demonstrated that ISS had a good solidification effect on high-water-content raw clay with the increase in unconfined compressive strength (+48.0%) and vertical yield stress (+66.7%), and with the decrease in plasticity index (-29.6%), compression index (-34.2%) and compressibility coefficient (-22.6%) at the optimal dilution volume ratio. Besides, the ISS clay solidification micro-mechanism was studied by use of a series of microscopic tests. The results showed that there was no new mineral or oxide formed after ISS-clay solidification, except for the new element C with the content of 19.92% observed in the solidified specimen, which was ascribed to the hydrocarbon radical in ISS. However, Ca 2 + and Mg 2 + on clay colloid surfaces were replaced by Fe 3 + , Al 3 + , K + , and Na + in ISS diluent during the curing process. The micro-mechanism can be interpreted as the reducing d-value in clay mineral and cation exchanging on clay colloid surfaces, and then, the special binary molecular structure of sulfonated oil in ISS lead to a breakdown of double electric layer structure and expulsions of interlayer, bound and free water from clay, which contributed to the close arrangement and compact aggregation of clay minerals. For a multi-dimensional measure of positive youth development (PYD), its factor structure should be invariant across groups and over time. This study examined the factorial validity of the 44-item short form of the "Chinese Positive Youth Development Scale" (CPYDS-SF) that assesses 15 dimensions of PYD attributes. Using two waves of longitudinal data with a one-year interval in between, this study examined the factor structure of the scale and whether the structure is invariant between gender groups and across time. The data were collected from 3,328 adolescents at Wave 1 and 3,638 adolescents at Wave 2, with a matched sample of 2,905 adolescents (mean age = 12.57 ± 0.72 at Wave 1; 49.54% girls). Confirmatory factor analysis revealed that the 15-factor structure fitted the data well. The findings of invariance tests further supported this structure's invariance across gender and time, indicating a stable factor structure of CPYDS-SF among Chinese adolescents. In our previous work on broadband photometric reverberation mapping (PRM), we proposed the interpolated cross-correlation function (ICCF)-Cut process to obtain the time lags of the H α emission line from two broadband lightcurves via subtracting the continuum emission from the line band. Extending the work, we enlarge our sample to the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) database. We adopt two criteria to select 123 type 1 active galactic nuclei (AGNs) with sufficient variability and smooth light curves from 3537 AGNs at z < 0.09 with more than 100 epoch observations in the g and r bands from the ZTF database. We calculate the H α time lags for 23 of them that have previous spectroscopic reverberation mapping (SRM) results using the ICCF-Cut, Just Another Vehicle for Estimating Lags In Nuclei (JAVELIN), and χ 2 methods. Our obtained H α time lags are slightly larger than the H β time lags, which is consistent with the previous SRM results and the theoretical model of the AGN broad-line region. The comparisons between the SRM and PRM lag distributions and between the subtracted emission line light curves indicate that after selecting AGNs with the two criteria, combining the ICCF-Cut, JAVELIN, and χ 2 methods provides an efficient way to get the reliable H α lags from the broadband PRM. Such techniques can be used to estimate the black hole masses of a large sample of AGNs in large multiepoch photometric sky surveys such as the Legacy Survey of Space and Time and the survey from the Wide Field Survey Telescope in the near future. Background: Plasma biomarkers showed a promising value in the disease diagnosis and management of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, profiles of the biomarkers and the associations with cognition across a spectrum of cognitive stages have seldom been reported. Methods: We recruited 320 individuals with cognitive impairment and 131 cognitively normal participants from a memory clinic and a community cohort. Participants were classified into 6 groups based on their Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) scores and clinical diagnosis, including AD, amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI), and normal cognition (NC). A battery of neuropsychological tests was used to assess the global and domain-specific cognition. Plasma Aβ1-40, Aβ1-42, Aβ1-42/Aβ1-40, total tau (t-tau), neurofilament protein light chain (NfL), and phosphorylated tau at threonine 181 (p-tau181) were quantified using the single-molecule array (Simoa) platform. Results: All the plasma markers (Aβ1-40, Aβ1-42, Aβ1-42/Aβ1-40, t-tau, NfL, p-tau181) showed certain discrepancies among NC, aMCI, and AD groups. The p-tau181 level showed a continuous escalating trend as the CDR scores increased from 0 (NC group) to 3 (severe AD). Compared with other biomarkers, p-tau181 had correlations with broader cognitive domains, covering global cognition (r = −0.536, P < 0.0001), memory (r = −0.481, P < 0.0001), attention (r = −0.437, P < 0.0001), visuospatial function (r = −0.385, P < 0.0001), and language (r = −0.177, P = 0.0003). Among participants with CDR ≥ 1, higher p-tau181 was correlated with worse global cognition (r = −0.301, P < 0.001). Background: Cryptosporidium baileyi is an economically important zoonotic pathogen that causes serious respiratory symptoms in chickens for which no effective control measures are currently available. An accumulating body of evidence indicates the potential and usefulness of metabolomics to further our understanding of the interaction between pathogens and hosts, and to search for new diagnostic or pharmacological biomarkers of complex microorganisms. The aim of this study was to identify the impact of C. baileyi infection on the serum metabolism of chickens and to assess several metabolites as potential diagnostic biomarkers for C. baileyi infection. Methods: Ultraperformance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS) and subsequent multivariate statistical analysis were applied to investigate metabolomics profiles in the serum samples of chickens infected with C. baileyi, and to identify potential metabolites that can be used to distinguish chickens infected with C. baileyi from non-infected birds. Results: Multivariate statistical analysis identified 138 differential serum metabolites between mock- and C. baileyi-infected chickens at 5 days post-infection (dpi), including 115 upregulated and 23 downregulated compounds. These metabolites were significantly enriched into six pathways, of which two pathways associated with energy and lipid metabolism, namely glycerophospholipid metabolism and sphingolipid metabolism, respectively, were the most enriched. Interestingly, some important immune-related pathways were also significantly enriched, including the intestinal immune network for IgA production, autophagy and cellular senescence. Nine potential C. baileyi-responsive metabolites were identified, including choline, sirolimus, all-trans retinoic acid, PC(14:0/22:1(13Z)), PC(15:0/22:6(4Z,7Z,10Z,13Z,16Z,19Z)), PE(16:1(9Z)/24:1(15Z)), phosphocholine, SM(d18:0/16:1(9Z)(OH)) and sphinganine. Conclusions: This is the first report on serum metabolic profiling of chickens with early-stage C. baileyi infection. Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the most lethal complications of diabetes mellitus with chronic inflammation. We have examined the role of the inflammatory chemokine CCL24 in DN. We observed that serum levels of CCL24 were significantly elevated in patients with DN. Not only that, the expression of CCL24 was significantly increased in the kidneys of DN mice. The kidney of DN mice showed increased renal fibrosis and inflammation. We characterized an in vitro podocyte cell model with high glucose. Western blot analysis showed that expression of CCL24 was significantly increased under high-glucose conditions. Stimulation with high glucose (35 mmol/L) resulted in an increase in CCL24 expression in the first 48 hours but changed little after 72 hours. Moreover, with glucose stimulation, the level of podocyte fibrosis gradually increased, the expression of the proinflammatory cytokine IL-1β was upregulated, and the expression of the glucose transporter GLUT4, involved in the insulin signal regulation pathway, also increased. It is suggested that CCL24 is involved in the pathogenesis of DN. In order to study the specific role of CCL24 in this process, we used the CRISPR-Cas9 technique to knock out CCL24 expression in podocytes. Compared with the control group, the podocyte inflammatory response induced by high glucose after CCL24 knockout was significantly increased. It is of great significance to study the soil pore structure for soil reinforcement and ground treatment because it can be used to evaluate the solidification effect and explain the curing mechanism. The pore and compression characteristics of clay from Wuhan in China before and after solidification by ionic soil stabilizer (ISS) in different soil initial states were studied by the use of standard consolidation test, environmental scanning electron microscope analysis, specific surface area (SSA) test, and analysis by PCAS software. Results show that the influence sequence of soil initial states on the change of pore characteristics and ISS-solidification effectiveness was as follows: reducing initial water content + remolding soil > reducing initial water content > remolding soil > natural soil with high initial water content. Besides, loading can also increase the solidification effect. Compared to random and chaotic pore directions of natural clay, remolded solidified clay had a more certain direction after curing and compression. In addition, the total pore number and SSA decreased from 1190 to 756 by 36.47% and 109.690 m2/g to 87.837 m2/g by 19.92% respectively. Results indicate that ISS-clay solidification effect in practical engineering is closely related to the soil initial pre-curing state and can lead to the change of pore direction, decrease of pore number, reduction of pore size and porosity, and formation of larger aggregates. Background: Many non-union animal models have been developed to explore the problems surrounding fracture healing. However, the existing models are not perfect and cannot satisfy all non-union studies. This study aimed to make a non-union model of the tibia in rats by cauterization of the posterior of 2 mm on both sides of the fracture end after open osteotomy of the tibia and fixing the fractured tibia with a Kirschner wire 0.8 mm in diameter. Methods: For this study, 96 female adult Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were used. The rats underwent surgery to produce a tibial open fracture and were fixed with a 0.8-mm diameter Kirschner wire. In 48 of the rats, the periosteum proximal and distal to the fracture end was cauterized. Results: At 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks after surgery, radiological and histological analysis showed typical physiological healing in the control group, and the healing rate was 100% at 6 weeks. But the non-union group was characterized by resorption of the fracture ends with few callus formations and no bridging callus formation, and the healing rate was 0% at 8 weeks. Conclusions: This method represents a reproducible model to create atrophic non-unions. In this paper, eight different SRAM cells are studied and evaluated with a 65nm CMOS technology. The cells were designed with radiation-hardening-by-design approaches including schematic and layout techniques. The eight types of cells were placed into eight pages of an SRAM test chip. The alpha and proton irradiation demonstrated that the Dual Interlocked Cell (DICE) has the best radiation-tolerant performance, but requires the largest area. The 6T and 11T cells designed with charge cancellation techniques can reduce soft errors up to 2-3 times with less area overhead. Several DICE variants were developed with reduced area overhead and showed SEU resilience performance equivalent to DICE. Simulation results are also presented in this paper to validate the findings. The risk of amputation is a sequelae of diabetic foot ulceration, which are significantly increased in diabetic patients and caused huge morbidly and mortality. However, whether the risk amputation in diabetic patients are differing in male and female remains inconclusive. We therefore conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the sex difference for the risk of amputation in diabetic patients. We systematically searched PubMed, EmBase, and the Cochrane library to identify eligible study from their inception up to November 2020. The diagnostic value of male patients on subsequent amputation risk were assessed by using sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative likelihood ratio (PLR and NLR), diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Twenty-two studies recruited a total of 33,686,171 diabetic patients were selected for quantitative analysis. The risk of amputation in male diabetic patients was greater than female diabetic patients (DOR: 1.38; 95%CI: 1.13–1.70; P<0.001). The sensitivity and specificity for male diabetic patients on the risk of amputation were 0.72 (95%CI: 0.72–0.73), and 0.51 (95%CI: 0.51–0.51), respectively. Moreover, the PLR and NLR of male diabetic patients for predicting amputation were 1.13 (95%CI: 1.05–1.22), and 0.82 (0.72–0.94), respectively. Furthermore, the AUC for male diabetic patients on amputation risk was 0.56 (95%CI: 0.48–0.63). This study found male diabetic patients was associated with an increased risk of amputation than female diabetic patients, and the predictive value of sex difference on amputation risk in diabetic patients was mild. The empirical formulas of dynamic amplification factor (DAF) specified in current bridge codes only consider the span or fundamental frequency of reinforced concrete (RC) girders in highway. Although investigations have been carried out on different bridges with considering the road roughness, vehicle–bridge interactions and travelling velocity, but most of them have been done numerically. In this study, experimental study of DAF was carried out on three simple-supported RC beams with different fundamental frequencies and different damage stages, i.e. without damage, cracked and yielded. Impulse hammer with four hammer heads of different hardness, i.e. black, red, green and brown, were used to generate impact forces with increasing duration. The impact tests were first carried out on the RC beams without any damage by impact hammer with different hammer heads. Then the RC beams were loaded by a concentrated static force at the mid-span to crack. Impact tests with different hammer heads were repeated on the cracked RC beams. Finally, the cracked beams were further loaded by a concentrated static force to yield of the longitudinal reinforcement. The impact tests were repeated on the yielded beams again. Load cells installed at the supports of the RC beams were used to measure the reaction force generated by the hammer, then DAF was calculated directly by dividing the peak reaction force with the peak impact force. Data obtained from tests, theoretical analysis and specification in codes were compared to examine the DAFs. Soil cadmium (Cd) contamination is a world-wide challenge and chemical stabilization is the most used remediation strategy. To solve the disadvantages of high stabilizer dosage and cost, we innovated a cost-efficient steam flash heating (SFH) approach to chemically immobilize Cd in contaminated soils, which introduced high-pressure saturated water vapor into soil microstructure, broke their binding with soil particles and accelerated Cd reactions with stabilizers by ultrafast pressure release. Using calcium dihydrogen phosphate, potassium hydrogen phosphate or calcium carbonate as stabilizer, Cd stabilization efficiency was 10.4%, 13.4% and 17.1% higher by SFH than conventional chemical stabilization, and the lowest Cd content in leachate was 0.61 mg/L. Additionally, SFH approach averagely reduced 50.1 ± 7.29% of stabilizer dosage, 34.1% of cost, and 29.9% of CO 2 emission. BCR sequential extraction results suggested that acid extractable Cd was preferentially transformed into residual Cd by SFH. Analysis of X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) documented that SFH treatment produced more stable Cd-minerals of Cd 3 (PO 4) 2 , CaCO 3 -Cd, and CdCO 3. Florfenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic commonly used in the U.S. to treat respiratory and enteric infections in goats in an extra-label manner, which requires scientifically based withdrawal intervals (WDIs) for edible tissues. This study aimed to determine the depletion profiles for florfenicol and florfenicol amine in plasma and tissues samples and to estimate WDIs for goats following subcutaneous injection of 40 mg/kg florfenicol, twice, 96 h apart. The samples were collected up to 50 days after the second dose. Pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated using non-compartmental analysis. Three different pharmacostatistical methods with different operational tolerances were used to calculate WDIs. The plasma half-life was 101.80 h for florfenicol and 207.69 h for florfenicol amine after the second dose. Using the FDA tolerance limit method, WDIs were 202 and 101 days, while the EMA maximum residue limit method estimated 179 and 96 days for the respective tissue concentrations to fall below limits of detection (0.12 μg/g for liver and 0.05 μg/g for kidney). The abnormal expression Dopamine D1 receptor (DRD1) gives rise to the dysfunction of dopaminergic neurotransmitter and may be associated with the occurrence of schizophrenia. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) can regulate the DRD1 expression by binding 3'UTR and be involved in the post-transcriptional regulation. We first constructed the pmirGLO-recombined vectors of series of DRD1 gene 3′UTR-truncated fragments and performed the luciferase receptor assay to screen the underlying 3′UTR sequence targeted by miRNAs. Then, we predicted the potential miRNAs binding the target sequence and confirmed their effects using luciferase receptor assay after transfection of the miRNA mimics/inhibitors. We also examined the effects of the miRNA on the endogenous DRD1 expression. We found that the DRD1 3′UTR ranging from –12 to +1135 bp was essential for the post-transcriptional regulation of miRNAs. The deletion of –12 to +154 bp fragment significantly increased the luciferase expression but not the mRNA expression. The miRNA-15a, miRNA-15b and miRNA 16 affected DRD1 expression in HEK293, U87, SK-N-SH and SH-SY5Y cell lines. The miRNA-15a, miRNA-15b and miRNA-16 inhibit the human dopamine D1 receptor expression by targeting 3′UTR –12 to +154 bp. Purpose: Abnormal expression of the NR1 subunit of the N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor may potentially increase the susceptibility to neuropsychiatric diseases. The purpose of this study was to investigate the functional sequence of the 3ʹUTR of the human GRIN1 gene, which encodes the GluN1 receptor to determine the effect on the expression of GluN1 receptor. Methods: We transferred seven recombinant pmirGLO recombinant vectors containing the 3ʹUTR truncated fragment of the GRIN1 gene into HEK-293, SK-N-SH, and U87 cell lines and compared the relative fluorescence intensity of adjacent length fragments. The TargetScan database was used to predict miRNAs. Then, miRNA mimics/inhibitors were co-transfected into the three cell lines with the 3ʹUTR of GRIN1 (pmirGLO - GRIN1), to investigate their influence on GRIN1 gene expression. Results: Compared with the pmirGLo-Basic vector, the relative fluorescence intensity of the complete GRIN1 gene 3ʹUTR recombinant sequence − 27 bp – +1284 bp (the next base of the stop codon is +1) was significantly decreased in all three cell lines. The relative fluorescence intensities were significantly different between − 27 bp – +294 bp and − 27 bp – +497 bp regions, and between − 27 bp – +708 bp and − 27 bp – +907 bp regions. According to the prediction of the TargetScan database and analysis, miR-212-5p, miR-324-3p and miR-326 may bind to +295 bp – +497 bp, while miR-491-5p may bind to +798 bp – +907 bp. After co-transfection of miRNA mimic/inhibitor or mimic/inhibitor NC with a recombinant vector in the 3ʹUTR region of GRIN1 gene, we found that has-miR-491-5p inhibited GRIN1 expression significantly in all three cell lines, while has-miR-326 inhibitor upregulated GRIN1 expression in HEK-293 and U87 cells. Conclusion: miR-491-5p may bind to the 3ʹUTR of the GRIN1 gene (+799 bp – +805 bp, the next base of the stop codon is +1) and down-regulate gene expression in HEK-293, SK-N-SH, and U87 cell lines, which implicates a potential role of miR-491-5p in central nervous system diseases. Background: The CACNA1C gene was defined as a risk gene for schizophrenia in a large genome-wide association study of European ancestry performed by the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium. Previous meta-analyses focused on the association between the CACNA1C gene rs1006737 and schizophrenia. The present study focused on whether there was an ancestral difference in the effect of the CACNA1C gene rs1006737 on schizophrenia. rs2007044 and rs4765905 were analyzed for their effect on the risk of schizophrenia. Methods: Pooled, subgroup, sensitivity, and publication bias analysis were conducted. Results: A total of 18 studies met the inclusion criteria, including fourteen rs1006737 studies (15,213 cases, 19,412 controls), three rs2007044 studies (6007 cases, 6518 controls), and two rs4765905 studies (2435 cases, 2639 controls). An allele model study also related rs2007044 and rs4765905 to schizophrenia. The overall meta-analysis for rs1006737, which included the allele contrast, dominant, recessive, codominance, and complete overdominance models, showed significant differences between rs1006737 and schizophrenia. However, the ancestral-based subgroup analysis for rs1006737 found that the genotypes GG and GG + GA were only protective factors for schizophrenia in Europeans. In contrast, the rs1006737 GA genotype only reduced the risk of schizophrenia in Asians. Conclusions: Rs1006737, rs2007044, and rs4765905 of the CACNA1C gene were associated with susceptibility to schizophrenia. Lug is one of the most important lap joints in many engineering structures, especially airframes. Through‐thickness and part‐through cracks emanating from pin‐loaded lug hole are frequently encountered due to stress concentration. Stress intensity factors for various crack geometries are the prerequisite for damage tolerance design of attachment lug. In this paper, analytical 2D weight functions for through‐thickness crack in lug are derived considering the contact condition between the pin and lug. With the derived 2D weight function, a highly efficient 3D slice synthesis weight function method (SSWFM) is then developed to determine 3D SIFs of hole‐edge corner/surface crack in straight and tapered lugs under various pin loadings. The resulting 3D SIFs are verified by comparisons with the numerical FEM/Franc3D solutions and literature data. The SSWFM is about 1800 times faster than the numerical FEM/Franc3D and therefore will significantly enhance damage tolerance analysis capability for attachment lugs. Using a high-luminosity (Lbol ∼ 1047.5–1048.3 erg s−1), high-redshift (3.2 < z < 3.8) quasar sample of 19 quasars with optical and near-infrared spectroscopy, we investigate the reliability of the C iv -based black hole mass estimates (MBH). The median logarithm of the C iv - and Hβ-based MBH ratios is 0.110 dex, with a scatter of 0.647 dex. The C iv -to-Hβ BH mass differences are significantly correlated with the C iv FWHMs, blueshifts, and asymmetries. Corrections of the C iv FWHM using the blueshift and asymmetry reduce the scatter of the mass differences by ∼0.04–0.2 dex. Quasars in our sample accrete at the Eddington ratio REDD > 0.3 and cover a considerable range of blueshifts, with 18/19 of the quasars showing C iv blueshifts (with the median value of 1126 km s−1) and 14/19 of the quasars showing C iv blueshifts larger than 500 km s−1. It suggests that not all quasars with high Eddington ratios show large blueshifts. The Baldwin effect between the C iv rest-frame equivalent width (REW) and the continuum luminosity at 1350 Å is not seen, likely due to the limited luminosity range of our sample. We find a lack of flux in the red wing of the composite spectrum with larger C iv blueshift and detect a higher ratio of [O iii ] quasars with REW[O iii ] > 5 Å in the subsample with lower C iv blueshift. The reverse shock (RS) model is generally introduced to interpret the optical afterglows with the rapid rising and decaying, such as the early optical afterglow of GRB 990123 (which is also called the optical flash). In this paper, we collected 11 gamma-ray burst (GRB) early optical afterglows, which have signatures of dominant RS emission. Since the temporal slopes of the optical flashes are determined by both the medium density distribution index k and the electron spectral index p, we apply the RS model of the thin shell case to the optical flashes and determine the ambient medium of the progenitors. We find that the k value is in the range of 0–1.5. The k value in this paper is consistent with the result in Yi et al., where the forward shock model was applied to some onset bumps. However, the method adopted in this paper is only applicable to GRB afterglows with significant sharp rising and decaying RS emission. Our results indicate that the RS model can also be applied to confirm the circumburst medium, further implying that GRBs may have diverse circumburst media. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Amyloid beta (Aβ) which is recognized as a main feature of Alzheimer's disease (AD) has been proposed to "spread" through anatomically and functionally connected brain regions. The entorhinal cortex and perforant path are the earliest affected brain regions in AD. The perforant path is the most vulnerable circuit in the cortex with respect to both aging and AD. Previous data show that the origins and terminations of the perforant path are susceptible to amyloid deposition at the younger age in AD. Nogo receptor (NgR) plays an essential role in limiting injury-induced axonal growth and experience-dependent plasticity in the adult brain. It has been suggested that NgR is involved in AD pathological features, but the results have been conflicting and the detailed mechanism needs further investigation. In this study, the effect of NgR in the perforant path on the pathological and functional phenotype of APP/PS1 transgenic mice was studied. Methods: To genetically manipulate NgR expression, adeno-associated virus (AAV) with short hairpin (shRNA) against NgR was injected into the perforant path of APP/PS1 transgenic mice, followed by an assessment of behavioral, synaptic plasticity and neuropathological phenotypes. NgR was overexpressed or knockdown in neuroblastoma N2a cells and APPswe/HEK293 cells to investigate the interaction between NgR and amyloid precursor protein (APP). Results: It is shown that reduction of NgR in the perforant path rescued cognitive and synaptic deficits in APP/PS1 transgenic mice. Concurrently, Aβ production in the perforant path and levels of soluble Aβ and amyloid plaques in the hippocampus were significantly decreased. There was a positive correlation between the total APP protein level and NgR expression both in transgenic mice and in cultured cells, where the α-secretase and β-secretase cleavage products both changed with APP level in parallel. Finally, NgR might inhibit APP degradation through lysosome by Rho/Rho-associated protein kinases (ROCK) signaling pathway. Conclusions: Our findings demonstrate that perforant path NgR plays an important role in regulating APP/Aβ level and cognitive functions in AD transgenic mice, which might be related to the suppression of APP degradation by NgR. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production is one of the earliest responses when plants percept pathogens and acts as antimicrobials to block pathogen entry. However, whether and how pathogens tolerate ROS stress remains elusive. Here, we report the chromatin remodeling in Verticillium dahliae, a soil-borne pathogenic fungus that causes vascular wilts of a wide range of plants, facilitates the DNA damage repair in response to plant ROS stress. We identified VdDpb4, encoding a histone-fold protein of the ISW2 chromatin remodeling complex in V. dahliae, is a virulence gene. The reduced virulence in wild type Arabidopsis plants arising from VdDpb4 deletion was impaired in the rbohd mutant plants that did not produce ROS. Further characterization of VdDpb4 and its interacting protein, VdIsw2, an ATP-dependent chromatin-remodeling factor, we show that while the depletion of VdIsw2 led to the decondensing of chromatin, the depletion of VdDpb4 resulted in a more compact chromatin structure and affected the VdIsw2-dependent transcriptional effect on gene expression, including genes involved in DNA damage repair. A knockout mutant of either VdDpb4 or VdIsw2 reduced the efficiency of DNA repair in the presence of DNA-damaging agents and virulence during plant infection. Together, our data demonstrate that VdDpb4 and VdIsw2 play roles in maintaining chromatin structure for positioning nucleosomes and transcription regulation, including genes involved in DNA repair in response to ROS stress during development and plant infection. Assays of the accessibility of bulk chromatin suggest that VdDpb4 plays an important role in maintaining a more "open" and accessible chromatin landscape, while VdIsw2 plays an antagonistic role in balancing chromatin structure. Abnormality of nucleosome repositioning by depletion of either protein is harmful to the fungus during DNA repair in response to ROS stress during development and plant infection. We further found that VdDpb4 is required for VdIsw2 to bind to gene promoters for appropriate RNA polymerase II transcription. Taken together, our data demonstrate that VdDpb4 is required for the location of ISW2 on DNA and VdIsw2-dependent transcriptional regulation of gene expression; and provide the first example and essential information for further investigation of chromatin-associated complexes in pathogenic fungi. Previous studies have demonstrated that the long non-coding RNA, small nucleolar RNA host gene 7 (SNHG7) plays an important role in several types of cancer; however, its role in the development of uveal melanoma (UM) remains unclear. The present study investigated the effect of SNHG7 on the prognosis of UM, as well as on cell proliferation, cell cycle and apoptosis of UM cell lines. Furthermore, the present study aimed to determine the molecular mechanisms underlying these effects. The association between SNHG7 and prognosis of UM was analyzed using detailed SNHG7 mRNA expression data and clinical information from The Cancer Genome Atlas database. Reverse transcription-quantitative PCR was used in order to detect the differential expression of SNHG7 in UM tissues and cell lines. Cell proliferation was detected using Cell Counting Kit-8 assays, following overexpression of SNHG7. A cell cycle assay was performed using propidium iodide/RNase staining. An apoptosis assay was performed using the Annexin-V-Fluorescein isothiocyanate apoptosis detection kit. The expression of enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) was measured via western blotting. The results of the present study indicated that low expression of SNHG7 was associated with poor prognosis. Furthermore, increasing the expression of SNHG7 inhibited the proliferation of UM cells, suppressed cell cycle progression and promoted apoptosis. Western blot analysis results revealed that overexpression of SNHG7 downregulated EZH2 protein expression levels in UM cell lines. This paper presents an extremely rare case of testicular metastasis arising from renal pelvis carcinoma. The testicle is a rare site of clinically detectable tumor metastasis, originating rarely from upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). There are only two cases concerning UTUC metastasis to the testis available in the literature. In this report, we presented a patient who developed serial testicle, lung, liver and retroperitoneal lymph node metastasis from primary urothelial carcinoma of the renal pelvis within one year after surgery and chemotherapy. In conclusion, for patients with a history of UTUC who present with testicular symptoms, clinicians should be highly alert for the possibility of malignant involvement at this site.
