Abstract To assess the associations between the creatinine-to-body weight (Cre/BW) ratio and reversion to normoglycemia mediated by the aspartate aminotransferase-to-alanine aminotransferase (De Ritis) ratio. This retrospective cohort study included 24,884 prediabetic participants from health check-ups in 32 regions across 11 Chinese cities. We employed multivariable Cox regression to assess time-to-event outcomes, smooth curve fitting for trend analysis, and inflection point analysis to determine critical thresholds. Subgroup analyses were performed to explore interactions. Mediation analysis was conducted to clarify the mechanisms linking prediabetes with health outcomes. In the analysis of 24,884 individuals, it was observed that 49.08% of the prediabetic subjects experienced normoglycemic conversion during a follow-up period spanning 73,517.66 person-years. Following full adjustment, the Cre/BW ratio was positively associated with normoglycemic conversion among prediabetic individuals (HR 1.42, 95% CI 1.30–1.55). Summary: Jasmonate (JA), a key plant hormone, regulates various aspects of plant development and stress responses, primarily through the degradation of canonical jasmonate-ZIM domain (JAZ) proteins by the SCFCOI1 complex. While JAZ8, a non-canonical JAZ protein lacking the degron signal, has been shown to repress JA responses, the mechanism by which JA inhibits JAZ8 activity remains unclear. Here, we demonstrate that Arabidopsis ethylene response factor 114 (ERF114), ERF115, and ERF109 regulate JA signaling through interacting with JAZ8. This interaction disrupts the formation of the MYC2/3/4-JAZ8 and root hair defective 6 (RHD6)-JAZ8 complexes. We show that ERF114 positively regulates JA-induced transcriptional responses and that JA-promoted root hair growth is highly alleviated in erf114 mutants. Furthermore, the transcription of ERF114/115/109 is induced by JA in an MYC2-dependent manner, thus forming a positive feedback loop in JA signaling. Collectively, this study reveals a regulatory pathway in which ERF114/115/109 regulate JA signaling by targeting non-canonical JAZ proteins.

Paracetamol-4,4′-bipyridine cocrystals were synthesized using a solution method, reflux method, grinding method, and ultrasonic method. The structures and properties were characterized through the utilization of single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SXRD), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), polarized light microscopy (PLM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), elemental analysis (EA), and infrared spectroscopy (IR). The results show that the four methods synthesized different cocrystal morphologies, but the same structure and properties coupled with a notably high purity level. All featured strong hydrogen bonds formed between the paracetamol,4,4′-bipyridine and water molecules. An additional notable feature is the presence of π...π stacking interactions between the pyridine rings of adjacent 4,4′-bipyridine molecules. The solubility of paracetamol (active pharmaceutical ingredient, API) and the cocrystal was measured and discussed. In the dissolution experiment, the cocrystal showed a much faster dissolution rate than the API in simulated gastric fluid media (pH = 1.2). Furthermore, the pharmacokinetic (PK) behavior of the cocrystal and the API was investigated to evaluate the effectiveness of this strategy for enhancing the oral absorption of paracetamol. The in vitro and in vivo studies revealed that the paracetamol-4,4′-bipyridine cocrystal possessed an excellent dissolution behavior and an improved pharmacokinetic profile.

Tourist preferences are important for the high-quality planning and design of recreation spaces. The famous scenic locale of West Lake in Hangzhou, China, is used as an example in this study. Based on multi-source data (e.g., online comments, and tourist photographs), we used content analysis, kernel density estimation, and image semantic segmentation technology to determine the spatial distribution of tourists' landscape preferences. We analyzed these spatial sight characteristics from the viewpoint, sight distance, and perspectives. The results show that tourists' landscape preferences are mainly concentrated on landscape architecture for recreation. The viewpoints of these preferences are concentrated in the north-south embankment—far beyond that of the east-west embankment. The preferences also show a spatial sequence in terms of sight distance, and the best visual effect is the open platform at the north and south islands of Xiaoyingzhou. From the perspective of vision, the degree of spatial openness in the tourists' landscape preferences is proportional to the distance of vision; the two factors have a convergent relationship. The discussion of the characteristics of tourists’ landscape preference and space sight creation in Xiaoyingzhou provides a reference for the quality improvement of island recreation space.

Abstract Albeit the majority of eukaryotic genomes can be pervasively transcribed to a diverse population of lncRNAs and various subtypes of lncRNA are discovered. However, the genome‐wide study of miRNA‐derived lncRNAs is still lacking. Here, it is reported that over 800 miRNA gene‐originated lncRNAs (molncRNAs) are generated from miRNA loci. One of them, molnc‐301b from miR‐301b and miR‐130b, functions as an “RNA decoy” to facilitate dissociation of the chromatin remodeling protein SMARCA5 from chromatin and thereby sequester transcription and mRNA translation. Specifically, molnc‐301b attenuates erythropoiesis by mitigating the transcription of erythropoietic and translation‐associated genes, such as GATA1 and FOS. In addition, a useful and powerful CRISPR screen platform to characterize the biological functions of molncRNAs at large‐scale and single‐cell levels is established and 29 functional molncRNAs in hematopoietic cells are identified. Collectively, the focus is on miRNA‐derived lncRNAs, deciphering their landscape during normal hematopoiesis, and comprehensively evaluating their potential roles.

The frosting processes on the wing surface before and after removing the scale of the Catocala electa Borkhauson were observed by using a self-assembled experiment device. The results showed that the formation process of frosting on the wing surface with or without scales was similar. However, the scale could affect the attachment shape of water vapour on the wing surface and the time when frost began to form. The formation time of frosting on the wing surface without scales was earlier than that on the wing surface with scales, which was about 614 s. The influence mechanism of the scales on the frosting process was analyzed from the wettability and morphology of the scales on the wing surface Catocala electa Borkhauson. The scale on the wing surface of Catocala electa Borkhauson showed superhydrophobic properties, and the scale surface had criss-cross ribs, which formed many special micro-nano spaces. Superhydrophobicity could promote the rolling of water on the scales and reduce the adhesion area between water and scale surface. The special space structure could delay the cooling of droplets on the scale surface of Catocala electa Borkhauson. The study might be helpful to design or optimize the functional surfaces with anti-frosting properties based on the structure of the scale surface.

Background and objectiveEndovascular thrombectomy (EVT) has become the gold standard in the treatment of acute stroke patients. However, not all patients respond well to this treatment despite successful attempts. In this study, we aimed to identify variables associated with the failure of improvements following EVT.MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed prospectively collected data of 292 ischemic stroke patients with large vessel occlusion who underwent EVT at three academic stroke centers in China from January 2019 to February 2022. All patients were above 18 years old and had symptoms onset ≤6 h. A decrease of more than 4 points on the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) after 24 h compared with admission or an NIHSS of 0 or 1 after 24 h was defined as early neurological improvement (ENI), whereas a lack of such improvement in the NIHSS was defined as a failure of early neurological improvement (FENI). A favorable outcome was defined as a modified Rankin scale (mRS) score of 0–2 after 90 days.ResultsA total of 183 patients were included in the final analyses, 126 of whom had FENI, while 57 had ENI. Background: Inflammatory liver diseases present a significant public health problem. Probiotics are a kind of living microorganisms, which can improve the balance of host intestinal flora, promote the proliferation of intestinal beneficial bacteria, inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria, improve immunity, reduce blood lipids and so on. Probiotics in fermented foods have attracted considerable attention lately as treatment options for liver injury. Objective: The aim of this study was selected probiotic strain with well probiotic properties from naturally fermented foods and investigated the underlying mechanisms of screened probiotic strain on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced liver injury, which provided the theoretical foundation for the development of probiotics functional food. Design: The probiotic characteristics of Lactobacillus plantarum Lp2 isolated from Chinese traditional fermented food were evaluated. Male KM mice were randomly assigned into three groups: normal chow (Control), LPS and LPS with L. plantarum Lp2. L. plantarum Lp2 were orally administered for 4 weeks before exposure to LPS. The liver injury of LPS-induced mice was observed through the evaluation of biochemical indexes, protein expression level and liver histopathology. Results and discussions: After treatment for 4 weeks, L. plantarum Lp2 administration significantly reduced the LPS-induced liver coefficient and the levels of serum or liver aspartate transaminase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and LPS, as well as decreasing the histological alterations and protein compared with the LPS group. Western-blotting results showed that L. plantarum Lp2 activated the signal pathway of TLR4/MAPK/NFκB/NRF2-HO-1/CYP2E1/Caspase-3 and regulated the expression of related proteins. Conclusions: In summary, L. plantarum Lp2 suppressed the LPS-induced activation of inflammatory pathways, oxidative injury and apoptosis has the potential to be used to improve liver injury.

Abstract Objectives To evaluate the effects of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) and cathepsin K (catK) inhibitors on resistance to dentin erosion. Methodology A total of 96 dentin specimens (3×3×2 mm) were prepared and randomly assigned into four groups (n=24): deionized water (DW); 1 µM odanacatib (ODN, catK inhibitor); 1 mM 1,10-phenanthroline (PHEN, MMP inhibitor); and 1 µM odanacatib + 1 mM 1,10-phenanthroline (COM). Each group was further divided into two subgroups for the application of treatment solutions before (PRE) and after erosive challenges (POST). All specimens were subjected to four daily erosive challenges for 5 d. For each erosive challenge, the specimens in subgroup PRE were immersed in the respective solutions before cola drinks, while the specimens in subgroup POST were immersed in the respective solutions after cola drinks (the immersion duration was 5 min in both cases). All specimens were stored in artificial saliva at 37°C between erosive challenges. The erosive dentin loss (EDL) was measured by profilometry. The residual demineralized organic matrix (DOM) of specimens was removed using type VII collagenase and evaluated by profilometry. Both the EDL and thickness of the residual DOM were statistically analyzed by two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Bonferroni’s test (α=0.05). The surface topography and transverse sections of the specimens were observed using SEM. MMPs and catK were immunolabeled in the eroded dentin and in situ zymography was performed to evaluate the enzyme activity. Results Significantly lower EDL was found in the groups ODN, PHEN, and COM than in the control group (all p0.05). PurposeTo provide preliminary data on the efficacy and safety of oral voriconazole (VCZ) as a primary treatment for fungal keratitis (FK).MethodWe performed a retrospective histopathological analysis of data on 90 patients with FK at The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University between September 2018 and February 2022. We recorded three outcomes: corneal epithelial healing, visual acuity (VA) improvement, and corneal perforation. Independent predictors were identified using univariate analysis, and multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to identify independent predictive factors associated with the three outcomes. The area under the curve was used to evaluate the predictive value of these factors.ResultsNinety patients were treated with VCZ tablets as the only antifungal drug. Overall, 71.1% (n = 64) of the patients had extreme corneal epithelial healing, 56.7% (n = 51) showed an improvement in VA, and 14.4% (n = 13) developed perforation during treatment. Non-cured patients were more likely to have large ulcers (≥5 × 5 mm2) and hypopyon.ConclusionThe results indicated that oral VCZ monotherapy was successful in the patients with FK in our study. Patients with ulcers larger than 5 × 5 mm2 and hypopyon were less likely to respond to this treatment.

Objectives The purpose of this study was to use easily obtained and directly observable clinical features to establish predictive models to identify patients at increased risk of stroke.Setting and participants A total of 46 240 valid records were obtained from 8 research centres and 14 communities in Jiangxi province, China, between February and September 2018.Primary and secondary outcome measures The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity and accuracy were calculated to test the performance of the five models (logistic regression (LR), random forest (RF), decision tree (DT), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) and gradient boosting DT). The calibration curve was used to show calibration performance.Results The results indicated that XGBoost (AUC: 0.924, accuracy: 0.873, sensitivity: 0.776, specificity: 0.916) and RF (AUC: 0.924, accuracy: 0.872, sensitivity: 0.778, specificity: 0.913) demonstrated excellent performance in predicting stroke. Physical inactivity, hypertension, meat-based diet and high salt intake were important prediction features of stroke.Conclusion The five machine learning models all had good predictive and discriminatory performance for stroke. The performance of RF and XGBoost was slightly better than that of LR, which was easier to interpret and less prone to overfitting. This work provides a rapid and accurate tool for stroke risk assessment, which can help to improve the efficiency of stroke screening medical services and the management of high-risk groups.

Before the availability of COVID-19 vaccines, surveys showed that vaccine hesitancy may influence the acceptance of COVID-19 vaccination. In this cross-sectional study, we aimed to investigate COVID-19 vaccination coverage among healthcare workers (HCWs) in obstetrics and gynecology, during the first three-month period of the vaccination campaign after COVID-19 vaccines were approved. A total of 662 eligible HCWs, consisting of 250 HCWs (group one) who participated in a Jiangsu provincial symposium and 412 HCWs (group two) in the department of obstetrics and gynecology, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, were invited to answer a 23-question questionnaire. The content of magnesium ions (Mg2+) in drinking water is relatively high and the excessive Mg2+ ingestion may lead to pathological lesions in the human body system. At present, the detection of Mg2+ still relies on costly devices or/and complex organic fluorescence probes. To solve this problem, this work proposed a NaBH4-mediated co-reduction strategy for the synthesis of glutathione-stabilized bimetallic AuAg nanoclusters (GSH@AuAg NCs) with performance recognition to Mg2+. The preparation of GSH@AuAg NCs was simple and rapid and could be performed at mild conditions. The reaction parameters and sampling orders were optimized to understand the formation mechanism of GSH@AuAg NCs. The GSH@AuAg NCs exhibited a sensitive “light on” fluorescence response to Mg2+ due to the re-molding of the interfacial physicochemical environment following the Mg2+ coordination, which affected the surface charge transfer process, and thus led to a novel method for fluorescence detection of Mg2+ with admirable selectivity for Mg2+. The proposed method showed a detection limit of 0.2 μM, and its practical utility for the detection of Mg2+ in a real sample of purified drinking water was also demonstrated, confirming its practicability in monitoring the Mg2+ concentration in drinking water.

Abstract Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) show emerging roles in colorectal cancer (CRC) development and are considered to be involved in the potential mechanism of tumor malignancy. While Sox2 overlapping transcript (SOX2OT) has been implicated in the progression of multiple cancers, its role in CRC remains to be explored. In this study, in situ hybridization (ISH) and qRT-PCR were performed to establish the functional relationships between SOX2OT and CRC deranged in CRC tissue and cells. Subsequently, SOX2OT shRNAs vectors were transfected into CRC cells to performed loss-of-function assays to detect the potential role of SOX2OT on proliferation and metastasis in vitro and vivo. The results showed SOX2OT was an oncogene that was up-regulated in human CRC tissues and cell lines. SOX2OT silencing suppressed cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in CRC cells in vitro, and inhibited tumorigenesis in the mouse xenografts. Bioinformatic predictive analysis coupled with the dual-luciferase reporter, RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP), and functional rescue assay elucidated the mechanistic network of the SOX2OT-miR-194-5p-SOX5 axis in CRC. Mechanistically, SOX2OT acted as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) to upregulate SOX5 by sponging miR-194-5p. Downregulated SOX2OT boosted miR-194-5p expression, thus decreased the protein level of SOX5, which suppresses tumorgenesis of CRC.

AimsTo reveal the impact of eleven risk factors on stroke and provide estimates of the prevention potential.MethodsWe completed a multicenter case-control study in Jiangxi, China, a middle-income area. Neuroimaging examination was performed in all cases. Controls were stroke-free adults recruited from the community in the case concentration area. Conditional logistic regression and unconditional logistic regression were used for subgroup analysis of stroke type, and other groups (sex, age and urban-rural area), respectively. Odds ratios (ORs) and their population attributable risks (PARs) were calculated, with 95% confidence intervals.ResultsA total of 43,615 participants (11,735 cases and 31,880 controls) were recruited from February to September 2018, of whom we enrolled 11,729 case-control pairs. Physical inactivity [PAR 69.5% (66.9–71.9%)] and hypertension [53.4% (49.8–56.8%)] were two major risk factors for stroke, followed by high salt intake [23.9% (20.5–27.3%)], dyslipidemia [20.5% (17.1–24.0%)], meat-based diet [17.5% (14.9–20.4%)], diabetes [7.7% (5.9–9.7%)], cardiac causes [5.3% (4.0–6.7%)], alcohol intake [4.7% (0.2–10.0%)], and high homocysteine [4.3% (1.4–7.4%)]. Nine of these factors were associated with ischemic stroke, and five were associated with intracerebral hemorrhage. Collectively, eleven risk factors accounted for 59.9% of the PAR for all stroke (ischemic stroke: 61.0%; intracerebral hemorrhage: 46.5%), and were consistent across sex (men: 65.5%; women: 62.3%), age (≤55: 65.2%; >55: 63.5%), and urban-rural areas (city: 62.2%; county: 65.7%).ConclusionThe 11 risk factors associated with stroke identified will provide an important reference for evidence-based planning for stroke prevention in middle-income areas. There is an urgent need to improve awareness, management and control of behavioral and metabolic risk factors, particularly to promote physical activity and reduce blood pressure.

The staying activity in shopping street has an inseparable relation with the spatial scale of the street. Neither too narrow nor too wide scale of street could bring a good walking experience to pedestrian, so it is especially important to find a suitable scale. Most of the researches are qualitative investigations related to human psychology, and few of them are about underground shopping street. This research made a quantitative investigation on the relationship between the spatial scale of underground shopping street and the staying activity there, defined the concept of staying activity coefficient to quantify the staying activity in shopping street, and used virtual reality experimental method to study the influence of spatial scale changes on the staying activity in shopping street. The research results show that the height and width of underground shopping street as well as the aspect ratio could significantly affect human activity in the pedestrian spaces of underground shopping street. Meanwhile, the most suitable scale of pedestrian spaces in underground street for people to have staying activity is also derived.

An incomplete interval-valued decision information system (IIVDIS) is a significant type of data decision table, which is ubiquitous in real life. Interval value is a form of knowledge representation, and it seems to be an embodiment of the uncertainty of research objects. In this paper, we focus on attribute reduction on the basis of a parameterized tolerance-based rough set model in an IIVDIS. Firstly, we give the similarity degree between information values on each attribute in an IIVDIS by considering incomplete information. Then, we present tolerance relations on the object set of an IIVDIS based on this similarity degree. Next, we define the rough approximations by means of the presented tolerance relation. Based on Kryszkiewicz’s ideal, we introduce $\alpha $ -generalized decision and consider attribute reduction in an IIVDIS by means of this decision. Furthermore, we put forward the notions of $\alpha $ -information entropy, $\alpha $ -conditional information entropy and $\alpha $ -joint information entropy in an IIVDIS. And we prove that $\alpha $ -positive region reduction theorem, $\alpha $ -conditional entropy reduction theorem, $\alpha $ -dependency reduction theorem and $\alpha $ -generalized decision reduction theorem are equivalent to each other. Finally, we propose two attribute reduction methods in an IIVDIS by using entropy measurement and the rough approximations, and design the relevant algorithms. We carry out a series of numerical experiments to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms. The experimental results show that proposed algorithms often choose fewer attributes and improve classification accuracies in most cases.

Pickering emulsions, which are stabilized by particles, have gained considerable attention recently because of their extreme stability and functionality. A food-grade particle is preferred by the food or pharmaceutical industries because of their noteworthy natural benefits (renewable resources, ease of preparation, excellent biocompatibility, and unique interfacial properties). Different edible particles are reported by recent publications with distinct shapes resulting from the inherent properties of raw materials and fabrication methods. Furthermore, they possess distinct interfacial properties and functionalities. Therefore, this review provides a comprehensive overview of the recent advances in the stabilization of Pickering emulsions using diverse food-grade particles, as well as their possible applications in the food industry.

Background/Aims: HER2 has been implicated in mammary tumorigenesis as well as aggressive tumor growth and metastasis. Its overexpression is related to a poor prognosis and chemoresistance in breast cancer patients. Although Grb2-associated binding protein 2 (Gab2) is important in the development and progression of human cancer, its effects and mechanisms in HER2-overexpressing breast cancer are unclear. Methods: Clone formation and MTT assays were used to examine cell proliferation. To detect the effect of Gab2 on the stemness of breast cancer cells, we used flow cytometry, a sphere formation assay, real-time PCR, and western blot. An animal model was created to validate the effect of Gab2 on tumor growth in vivo. Tissue slides were analyzed by immunohistochemistry. Results: Knockdown of Gab2 suppressed PI3K/AKT and MAPK/ERK pathway activity. Gab2 ablation also reduced the stemness of HER2-overexpressing breast cancer cells. In vivo, knockdown of Gab2 inhibited tumor growth. Conclusion: This study unveils a potential function of Gab2 in HER2-overexpressing breast cancer cells. Gab2 might be a potential target in the clinical therapy of HER2-overexpressing breast carcinoma.

This study proposes a novel anti-icing model in which silicone rubber with low thermal conductivity is coated at different positions on a material surface to change the continuity of the thermal conductivity of the surface. During the test, the surfaces of aluminum alloy and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) are discontinuously coated with silicone rubber. Repeated experiments are conducted to verify the anti-icing effect of the proposed model. Results showed that compared to the conventional surface ice adhesion strength, the rate of reduction of the ice adhesion strength of the aluminum alloy and PMMA could reach 75.07% and 76.70%, respectively, when the novel method is used. Because of the different levels of thermal conductivity at different positions on the material surface, the water attached to the surface locations without the coated silicone rubber had other freezing times. Combined with the heat and phase change of water during the freezing process, changing the stability of the interface between the ice and substrate could act as an active anti-icing power. The ice adhesion strength on the material surface could then be reduced. Compared with the conventional anti-icing methods, the anti-icing method proposed in this study could significantly increase the active anti-icing characteristics of the material and provide a novel anti-icing method for use in engineering applications.

The Vulgichneumon sp. belongs to the subfamily Ichneumoninae of Ichneumonidae. The mitogenome (GenBank accession number: MN178162) of Vulgichneumon sp. was sequenced, the first representative of the mitogenome of the subfamily. The nearly complete mitogenome is 15,306 bp totally, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNAs and 22 transfer RNAs. The nucleotide composition biases toward A and T, which together made up 83.6% of the entirety. Bayesian inference analysis supported the monophyly of Evanioidea, Chalcidoidea, Platygastroidea, Proctotrupoidea, Ceraphronoidea, and Ichneumonoidea. This result also suggested that the clade that contains other six superfamilies was the sister group to the clade that consist of Trigonaloidea, Megalyroidea and Ichneumonoidea.

Currently, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) has attracted widespread public attention. However, there is a war regarding the applicability of the diagnosis in different populations regarding the distinct criteria for the diagnosis of MS. Data about the prevalence rate of MS and its components in Jiangxi Province are limited. Thus, our goals were to compare the consistency rates and applicability of three criteria, i.e., those of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment PanelⅢ (ATPⅢ), and the Chinese Diabetes Society (CDS).From September 2013 to March 2014, 5959 residents (age≥18 years) from Jiangxi Province were selected by multistage stratified cluster random sampling methods. The prevalence rate of MS and its components were calculated according to the IDF, ATPⅢ and CDS criteria, and the protocols of the different criteria were measured in terms of consistency with the kappa statistic and Youden's index. Receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to explore the optimal cut-off points of body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC).The mean age of the participants was 50.52±13.92 years among the total of 5959 individuals (2451 male and 3508 female). The standardized prevalence rate of MS was 19.85%, 24.77% and 9.95% according to the IDF, ATPⅢ and CDS criteria, respectively. The order of the prevalence rates of the different components of MS according to the IDF or ATPⅢ criteria from high to low were as follows: elevated blood pressure, central obesity, reduced high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), hyperglycemia, and hypertriglyceridemia. The most prevalent component of MS, according to the CDS criterion, was being overweight or obese, followed by elevated blood pressure, dyslipidemia and hyperglycemia. The Youden's index in IDF criterion was higher than which in CDS criterion (0.79 for IDF vs. 0.38 for CDS) referring to the ATPⅢ criterion. The agreement between the IDF and ATPⅢ criteria was good (kappa = 0.85), whereas the agreement of the CDS with the IDF and ATPⅢ criteria was moderate (kappa = 0.46 and 0.46, respectively). The ability to predict MS risk factors clusters was superior when the BMI cut-off point was 24/24kg/m2 (male/female), and the WC cut-off point was 87/80cm (male/female). Among the 18~59 years old male group, BMI was superior to WC in predicting clusters of risk factors for MS; while in the 60 years and above male group and all-age female group, WC was superior to BMI.Our results revealed that the prevalence rate of metabolic syndrome among adults was high in Jiangxi Province. BMI and WC had different ability to predict clusters of risk factors for MS in different age groups and gender. Among the three criteria for MS, there was bigger difference in applicability for the adults of Jiangxi Province. The choice of the appropriate criteria should be based on the actual conditions of the site.
